in the past there has been sort of a tacit understanding that people who are at the flip are probably the sort of people who don't want too much information, that's all
thanks, jillibus :-)
ST 8/40 S + to cry + to have eaten
flip, flip, flip - knowledge is power & life is short
tacit understanding that us published where?
it wasn't published, there were fewer babblers in those days, so it didn't have to be
babblerabble - lol your bio - thanks, i needed that!
So, once again someone is censored for an unwritten understanding that only a few know about
well sorry the clues do not fit in with your time of day!! If you do not want to know them then dont look, simple :))
censured
also, ahem - sociopaths = problems, big problems, always (don't let them fool you, lol)
i don't think cnan was trying to censor or censure, just, perhaps, pass on a time-honored tradition
hello all ...just joining in for a few
couldn't help but overhear the rumbling
Glad I could amuse you helen ..... have a good laugh
it was my understanding that the no clues usually runs for the first hour or so - after that it's fair game (i got chewed out for this also wen i first started here) that hour is nearly up
melon - i missed you last night - i want to wish best of luck on your surgery, hope you feel better very, very soon - & like someone else said, be sure to get the good drugs!
that was me HK. always ask for the good drugs.
did you find the tr 9, hurshy?
yup
yes joey - always an excellent plan!
oh, my doc is generous - might as well convalesce in lala-land ;)
If there are going to be conventions, and time-honored whatever..... tell people .... personally I think the whole thing is bogus and condescending
it is obvious that some at the flip are more acquainted with the game than others. i love the clues when i need them...and i love to give clues when someone else needs them. i didn't know that only the professionals needing no clues were allowed to play for the first hour. i'll watch my log in time from now on
well said Babble
my mom is having surgery tomorrow. unfortunately she doesn't subscribe to the same ideas. she toughs it out
agreed babblerabble and in a way that doesnt belittle others or make them feel unwelcome
quite honestly...i NEVER would have found the tr9 on my own and i thank cyborg for sharing
i suppose one could announce "clue alert!" so eyes could be averted.
OS 7/32 A tumor of bone tissue
good idea melon!
i have no issue with clues either, no matter how early, but some here will get their noses out of joint over it - it's up to you wot u decide to do with that info
It is just that some players like to see how many words they can find without clues in the first hour. Traditionally only the 4 or 5 longest words are called (alpha numeric only). The rest of us do not find it a hardship to respect the wishes of those who like the greater challenge. The reason this game is so popular is for the friendly chat, the supportive group and the fact that everyone tries to fit it.
I don't think there any rules as have been intimated here, apart from a general consideration that some people play Babble differently from others, and that it behoves others to take that into account.
*in
Communities are generally about a consideration of others ...
i don't think it has been called - i got a co 7
gorgeous and enviable icon, angb!
you do not need to read the clues, just ignore them, they are soon scrolled off the screen, I believe in being helpful
You speak of a tradition that is kept a secret.... put all these unwritten whatever out there so everyone knows.
um, that's kind of what we were doing.
Thank you jilli - the pohutukawas are starting to flower - local legend says that it will be a nice summer if they flower prior to Xmas
sure you are by fingerpointing
This is SO silly -- if you reduce the program, you don't see the chat. The resident Einsteins could easily do that instead oif kvetching...
i really don't think anyone's tone was accusatory...
peace, please
oh hogwash
but the not cluing should probably be presented as a request if it comes too early, rather than some kind of violation
my sentiments exactly, babrab! LOL!
chill pills all round - i am off to work - bbl to find only 216
cnan smiled, a smile always indicates friendliness, and i said "that's all", so as to indicate it was no big deal, but informational...
fear
same
oops -- sorry
ta, erda!
Only 4 QU words!
I feel like I am a newcomer as I have just found about this 1st hour convention! I'd agree with BabbleR - perhaps the 'conventions' could be written into the Help above. There would be an issue with the first hour being 'reserved' for non-clues anyway as we are from so many dfferent countries
ty erda
See you all later guys ... will be back when it quietens down
I really don't understand why you can't shrink this part of your screen, virtually removing all chat, until you are ready to look at it....
i am offering this from my own standpoint...i obviously do not have the extended vocabulary of many who are here and do not feel threatened in anyway by clues or "called" clues.
because most people still like to chat girlfriday
i like erda's suggestion, shrinking the chat, or removing it, we all have different time constraints, if you want to speed-babble, then don't bother looking at the chat, if you can't do that, then go play tangleword, you get not time to chat there :)
110 so far.
amen, girlfriday!!!
actually...a called clue is just as much of a giveaway for us to find a new word as the definition sometimes...so the only issue seems to be that cyborg clued a couple words that were already "called" by someone else.
Morning all! I've been listening to what's being said. I like the clues. The only time I've got to play is from the flip - before the world starts moving - and I wouldn't be able to finish without the clues. Surely there's some way we could all accomodate each other?
i'm with dispatch, i only have a certain ammount of time to play babble and if clues are given, i will try and work them out!
soar
I want an e beside that d on the left
these unwritten 'rules' come from long standing players, i guess the question is should they have to adapt to 'newbies' or should new players adapt to the existing community?
whops, sry
i think the issue was more, perhaps, that the clues given hadn't even been requested by anyone?
tx mitch
I am done..... it is clear that something will always offend someone ... unwritten rules, traditions and conventions will always unwittingly trip up the uninitialted
some people are just looking to moan about something, anything, as long as they can moan ... will be back tomorrow at 2 minutes to flip for more juicy clues!
is that another unwritten requirement?
no offense to me and none by me i hope babblerabble
babblerabble - done with the grid, or fed up with the chat?
hurshy ... do you only speak when spoken too? I bet not!!
joey, i hadn't looked at the chat for a bit. i hope your mom gets through it all right. doctors used to guilt-trip pts for asking for pain meds. fortunately this has changed.
no, but when you combine that with it being the first hour, it just... but it really doesn't matter, so, whatever
personally i don't mind the tr9/60 stuff - but when it gets to giving the whole word away, it is somewhat bothersome - it takes away any challenge at finding words which i think is kind of the point of the game
exactly, just look to moan ... the clues are out there for all, read em or not, they are helpful and friendly all the same
fitting word ra4,4
hurshy gives "play on words" clues as well as direct when asked...which are fun too!
it wasn't moaning in the first place! i think at this point there's more moaning about perceived moaning than there was moaning to begin with...
hehe
lol
;) mkl
It's boring having this same stupid conversation night after night... It's a GAME, just play it!

Good morning/evening all. I suppose a bigger grid was inevitable!
Hi Haz
Good morning Haz....and I have to empty the lounge and the hall and the landing for new carpets tomorrow !!!
Hi Haz.
Rather you than me, Karys! But I suppose new carpet is a powerful driving force.
Hello Karys. and Congratulaions for the upcoming ceremony - I hope it all goes beautifully for you
one of those thing you wish could just happen by magic !
thank you lynn....could be getting a little bit excited now I think.
BBL having a break for this overley large and slow grid
see ya lynxxx - I won't be far behind you
later lynnxxx I hope !
hi everyone
Hi andree
hi Andree
this is way to big for me, will never find time to finish, pity it wasn't yesterday as I had a day off today
clue for ta 6/21 please
not got there yet Andree...sorry
The plural of the 5 / 12? Or is there another?

hi rhee
If you have the ae6, take off the last vowel, replace with an 'alternative' word
thx haz
Alternative word being two letters
You're welcome.
I didn't take off last letter , think I tried the whole alphabet, lol
It'll be one to remember for again!
maybe haz, I have a lot of senior moments these days
It comes to us all. The frustrating thing is remembering someone's name two days too late.
I wander into a room to get something and forget what it was I came for, lol
Ditto. Major exercise, apart from walking the dog, is going up and down stairs trying to remember why you need to go up or down.
never mind, lots of us in the same boat
humph! co7.40 silly word
haven;t got that yet lynxxx, will look
Hi all. Hows the big grid?
Andree - hint - is not quite what you use on your face
I suppose you have to have some way to describe co5
Good morning spanner. The grid is big... I'll have to tackle it in stages.
hi spanner, not easy
Hello Spanner
and way too big for me
I have to tackle EVERy grid in stages...and I never get to the last stage LOL
last ar 6/18 please
My back is a problem at the minute and can't sit for too long at one time, so enforced stages....
Sorry to hear that Haz, hope youll be feeling better soon
ar6/18 - more creative.
I had physio yesterday and am feeling the effects today!
thx haz
Sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better...
the physio only makes you feel better after a couple of days
That's what I'm telling myself.
Grit your teeth, if the physio is working properly youll be feeling better by tomorrow...
I have to go back tomorrow for more!
you have to drink heaps of water, like having a massage brings out all the toxins in your body
What on earth have you done or is this an ongoing problem?
spanner - I woke up a week ago with an extremely sore lower back, no apparent cause. When it didn't get any better I sought help! It's what used to be known as a slipped disc, but hopefully with exercises and various things it should get better slowly.
Ouch, bad luck Haz. Give it time and mother it a bit...(my daughter slipped a disc turning over in bed...well at least thats what she told me...)
95 left, hope I can get back to it tomorrow, happy babbling
Bye andree
hope you feel better soon haz although it sounds as though it might take a while
Bye Andree - thanks, spanner, I'm doing my best to be sensible but it is frustrating!
Bye Andree.
I know but the body needs time to heal, and sometimes you need to give it that time
Haz - remember the ice-packs - and I love Voltarin!
ANd dont you just hate being 'sensible'
LOL lynxxx
Thanks lynxxx - I've been given a TENS machine to buzz away at my back. Now I'm literally wired up.
I use onre of those regularly. They take a while for you to feel the benefits but when they do, they are bloody marvellous
It's an interesting sensation, I'll say that for it! Anyway, have to go and move around a bit. I'll probably be back later (pardon the pun).
mental note - I must find out about hese
bye for now Haz
Later Haz. Lynxx, they are great, but they dont suit everyone apparantly
I dont know how it works in Oz (though I should my sister lives in sydney), but there are places over here you can loan them to make sure they suit you before you buy
I shall investigate - I'm seeing my chiro next week anyway. I go every 3 months as a preventative measure which seems to work for me. I actually have another problem which it may be good for - I'll find out. TY
YW
Well just breached 100, so im off. Late all, happy babbling
Bye Spanner and thanks for the info
Lynxx let me know how you get on, and look after yourself
phantom word... satan
hello conXshun
hiya lynxxx - biggie today!
a boring biggie too
should I get into it?
up to you - I went to Lickety at half way and I'm still finding it arduous - ??
nare
hmmm, I'll do some 'have to do today' stuff first then, and see what I do in my breaks... But the grid keep calling out..."play me! play me!!"
This is not a friendly grid is it? Morning everyone
I though it said 'beat me, beat me'
hello JFB
hello jfb - i'm contemplating it before I start!
good heavens....sorry...didn't even know I was up there !!
LOL lynxxx! maybe once I've taken the bait it'll come up with an evil grin and say the same
only popped in for a mo' and already upsetting things !
I'm working later and a lot of things I should have done..................!! Must go and get the families meal ready for reheating. bbl
no upset karys! we've all done it at some time or another. it wasn't even a word...! that's the only upsetting thing! ;)
bye jfb
sorry ConX...I'll try harder next time
Ok karys - I'll hold you to that! :) I think I'l follow jfb and go off and do 'should do' stuff... good luck all - don't all get bored to death, and maybe see you later!
ok..ok...you've all shamed me into doing 'something'...back later
Good morning folks---how are things in your parts of th world? I just woke up--it's 6:26 AM.
goodmorning Scrabbler
A BIG grid--I'll aim for 50%.
I have the one Q--qu5,16, but have monkeyed what seems like everything else--help!
scrabbler, add round vowel to second qu 5/16
another qu5.16 - one ends a vewel and one in a cons
missing the others.
qu6.27 the qu5.16 ending in a vowel but add another vowel in the 4th place
I found another qu5,16, ending in 2nd vowel. And I got the qu6. TY. Still looking for another qu5
thanks lynxxx, got them
did you get them scrabbler?
katy...do all four of teh q's start out that same?
first three letters are the same. the first one 6/27 adds a vowel in the fourth place tho.
ok..thanks.
got it...what a weird word...
Arrrgh, got it finally, with help from my Scrabble dictionary.
Did you finish your religion paper, Bloodaxe?
good job. tough word.
i did scrabbler...you remembered! but i changed topics..i did "The Nature of Evil" instead.
Wow, cool topic. Have you ever read Peck's, People of the Lie?
I haven't...is it good?
There is evil in ordinary life in people that we encounter daily---our office has a few. Yes, good book--M.Scott Peck, who also wrote The Road Less Traveled--a classic
hahaha..i think we've worked with some of the same people. I'll check it out..i have a list of books i want to read when i'm done with school...
Our office manager seethes evilness, and is basically a schoolyard bully. I stay clear of her.
ouch! I signed in just now and see the size of this grid - and I am going to be busy all day. Le sigh - I will never finish
hahahaha
HI WOLVIE!
Yes, I have a long wish list of books on Amazon.com
Hi Wolvie
Hi Wolvie
Wolvie, I am shooting for 50%, and getting the big words.
scrabbler, i just got an email from one of my instructors saying that he usually usually tries to get the exchange students to drop his classes, but this semester we were better than others.
it just figures. normally I would be able to have some time, but not today - ah well
Yikes, what a big puzzle, any clues for the 9 or the 8's around
i don't know if i should take it as a compliment, or continue disliking him for his "evilness"...he's pretty mean.
hey peri.
sounds a bit positive blood. :-)
I am not in the grid today :(
were you in it yesterday peri? I never got to sign in
Just smother him with kindness because he will give you a final grade of course. Otherwise I ignore evil people and take their power away.
aawww...it's ok peri...the grid still loves you...and so do we.
Yes I was, Wolvie
Hi Peri - tr8&9 I believe it is a three hulled boat - a 2 hulled boat is a cata*****

Wow, there are some odd words here today, and I've only just begun.
The a,e,r will be problems for me ... too many directions to choose from and am forever and a day starting with the wrong tile.
at this rate, I will be lucky to make it to the halfway mark.

Where's Periwinkle today? She always prods us into getting the long ones finished first and she's developed that new habit in me. then I breeze thru the short ones much more quickly.

yw
my last name is in the puzzle again today
st----strick
*strict
or the back of a ship
because I am definitely not strict
ty, that's what I thought, but I could not make it.
Oops, I had that one. It is the co 7,36 I need. The one that comes after the long jacket you wear in winter.
merk, I think that was clued, is it the thing you put on the table to protect it so a frosty glass does not harm it
Got it, folks! co 7,36 co + to put up a building
I could use clues on long words that come later, ea 7 perhaps.
thanks, merk!
nice job, Merk, didn't know that was a word!
have to leave, see you all later
thanks Merk, nice clue
And isn't that true of many of our words? co 7.40 comes to mind and the am 6,21.
lol, don't have those yet, Merk
anyone have a clue for the am6?
am + woman's name
ty merk
The actress from long ago Hayworth. Her first name after the am.
The co 7,40 builds on the word before it ... the thing flying across the night sky, make it an adj. I think.
tx Merk!
ea7: NOT from the west
had it, Aloy. It builds so nicely on the two words before it.
sneeze,sneeze,sniff,cough,....good morning everyone.
okie dokie
hodag got a code?
Some of the sea birds are back.
Golly, hodag. I hope you get over that cold soon.

Its back and in my head so if I mess-up you'll have to fogive me!..........Thanks Merk sniff sniff.....
Lots of words ending in 'ic' today.
hodag, is it a viral thingy? Hope you can shake it soon :)
hodag, feel your pain, it feels like someone is stomping on my face here.
fe 5,16 clue please, the final fe 5,16. I have the first two.
Thank you sunny,I think it likes me it just keeps hanging on..I,m taking a perscription now maybe that will work, cough, sneeze, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh poo!
merk, you have the plant?
Merk, a leaft plant, plural the fe 4/7
evanonut I know what you mean,it sucks............
Oops, I did something majorly wrong here. I already have that plural, but in the wrong place, I guess. Hang on.
I am missing the fe 5,18.
I can't make a plural of the fe 4 ahead of it.
Use the same first three letters, then add what sounds like another word for I.
Got it. fe + short cane + do, re, **
first ce5/12?
aaahhh, enrico!
ce It means to stop
yes, the great Italian scientist
ty
ty all
I'm going back to my old way of one word at a time and attacking the long words when I get there. I still like Peri's way, but she doesn't seem to be here today.

ooh, where is the joy in BabbleLand?
co + to put up a building
sorry that happened
it was my fault :)
did you tick someone off?
ty merk, that was my last C!
i spose i did
FWIT I totally support what you were saying
I'm clueless, but I'll check it out after I conquer this grid
i mostly feel bad about cnan - nobody would have really paid attention to her original comment if i hadn't said more about it, and i don't know if she wanted to be involved in a whole shebang, you know? but thanks une
usual to clue or not to clue debate. Can someone please tell what the 9 begins with?
tr9
ma 6,21 please
merci
yes ma6/21, i'll do whatever you say
huh?
Maybe you need the name of a Lock, merk... or .. the mate of a mistress???
ma6: like visa, there's ma****card (it's priceless)
ma6 one who's at the top of his/her game . . . name of various sports tournaments . . . tennis, golf, etc.
i actually don't care if people give a clue in the first hour, but i just thought it was unnecessary giving a whole bunch of them that people weren't even saying they had trouble with so early in the game... ma6/21 and servant
heck i'd already ASKED for the tr9 clue!
ty hurshy, I have something out of order in my list again.
hang a sign on the door then merk
hursh does it use the prefix across
croma
ma
nope, the prefix 3
ty and sorry
hiya owl
prefix 3 and its a three hulled ship. Think catamaran
yw and you didn't do anything :)

you mean the vowel magnet, aloy? :-D
great, Gwen.. glad you got it
yes, une... don't know what the heck it actually means, do you?
only 6 dr's hursh
oh, do you have the past tense of the movie in your head?
i know, and i have only 5
no, ty :)
man i'm groggy
hmmm etymology of groggy = in a state as if one has had too much grog?
aloy, apparently it's a coin of New Guinea
oh, of course... I shoulda known that, lol.. ty for the past tense, I needed that!
mornin babblers!

retiring
woaaaa is me! Does't self pitty make you sick

you can have hectares, why can't you have octares?

Hello all - hurshy seems quiet now - please clue im's anyone
puffs with lotion, i hope, for your poor nose's sake
oh oh the im6 is my favorite to clue
keep it simple hurshy - simple mind here
if you were a rodent, and someone mistakenly thought you were a mouse instead of what you really were, you might say, "no, *'* * ***!", now change the a to e.
it's the silliest clue i ever made up and i use it whenever possible.

it's a lovely clue, hurshy, even my asleep fingers like it! thanks

oops
hello to you also , hodag!
yay mini me!! (sorry if you were irked by last night's chat)
not at all hurshy - to each his own and i just do my own thing
i think it's cause i'm in love with dr. house... i have these urges to be like him... i rein it in as much as i can but...
ooohhh, dr. house . . . sigh . . .
ditto une
my husband doesn't get it at all - he's like, "he's such a jerk, how can you like him", to which i reply, "i looooooooooooove him
giggling at hurshy's im clue.
*melting over keyboard* house...
this is good, i can tell him you all agree
Cold showers, ladies...
yes, we definitely agree
hursh, I have friends who would gladly get in line as well!
*sigh* Gadget.... *grin*
the tough thing is, i mean, you've got chase right there too!!! tough call.
I don't. I can't help thinking of him as an English comedy actor.
i first saw him as mr. parker in sense and sensibility, haz - so i thought it was odd at first but then i got used to him as house
oh haz, i just realized i had a dr5 about you last night!
well, lots of us stateside found out about his comedy background "after the fact" :-)
hey hey Gadget
yep. they were a great team weren't they Haz?
no -- chase is far too young for me! House...
He'll always be Stuart Little's dad to me. No one thought he was crush-worthy back then. Must be some women just like jerks!
he really was great in Black Adder though....no one plays a stoopid prince like Hugh Laurie...
He's been in lots of things - all comedy up until now.
well chase isn't too young for me :) :) :)
i liked him in stuart little
That's true also -- though I thought Stephen Fry was funnier in his Black Adder role.
thats funny grace, SOME women??? a lot from what I see
actually now that i think of it, mr. parker had some house-like qualities
Sorry, if I wanted a doctor, my vote would go to Carter in ER. Rich, caring, handsome.
yippee for me, got the E from the top!
aw, yeah, carter.... but what about clooney? mmmm
Clue stid?
sniff, sniff, achooooo,sh**! this sucks think I will return to bed....................bye
sleep well hodag
oh hodag -- feel better... bye!
get better hodag
i think i do like jerks. i like simon cowell too. i mean i don't have a crush on him, but i admire him.
it is ironic because my husband is as opposite of jerk as you can get.
Thank you all................LOL
*icky* simon cowell *blech*
i like simon, he tells it like it is, and face it some of those people need to be told the truth
yeah, that's exactly what i was going to say pab! so much better than sappy paula and wishy-washy randy
the only thing i find weird is that sometimes i think someone in the final rounds sang a particular song quite badly and then he says they did great - that is unnerving.
Morning stid - got your message from woulf. Haven't been on chat since we movrd. I think we have too, too much stuffage!
didn't say i liked the others. just *icky* simon. I watched only about 15 minutes of one episode of that show actually... the whole thing was yucky.
{{{{hootowl}}}} !!! gotta rescue a dog brb
hodag has too much stuffage too
na5 stuffage!
in the noooooooooooooose
LOVE House. And I own the Black Adder cds. He is the doctor I've always wanted. Knows what he's talking about and tells you. Chase is NOT trustwirthy!
yes yes yes
back -- so, do you like your new place? are you comfortable? I have missed you so much!
but chase is hot hot hot
Hot goes so far. I don't trust him!
I have about ten minutes before I need to take the kids to school...
Errrg, this one is a pain!
Which one's Chase? The dark one (Dead Poets) or the Australian?
i like foreman too
medicinally, or relationally, hoot?
Chase, is he the one that House wrote a scrip from his pad and had him suspended?
yes bunny... I was hoping to get to halfway before I left, but I am not going to make it.
australian
yeah, I like foreman,,he's HOTT
let's face it, they don't pick bad looking people to be on tv very often.
it is really windy here, rae -- what about up north?
That's why I like to watch TV ;)
I spent all night listening to the trees and branches ... trees stayed up, a lot of branches didn't!
oh..it's bad...we lost power for about 8 hours last night and there's another bugger of a storm coming tomorrow
He's good looking in a young kind of way.
Are moved in but still a mess. Combining stuf from his apt, mine from NY AND Knox plus stuff we got from his mothers when we cleaned out her house last year! 2 bedroom, living room, dining room and family room packed to the gills! Still haven't found some stuff. Also movers from hell!
he's right around my age, and ahhh that accent
{{hoot}} probably won't help to tell you we've been here 7 years and I am still occasionally finding things!
we don't have grass anymore...lol...we have pine boughs
Hoot, I feel for ya, we have been moved in for three months or so, but we still aren't "moved in".
...but I'm not as bad as Stid, lol
our current home was still under construction when we moved in, that was unpleasant
my drive in at 0530 was really fun too...
we may even get a thunder storm this aft, Stid! a light show!
I bet! at 5:30 I gave up on sleep and decided to get the furnace going (it's normally on a timer) in case the power went
so far still online, but not overly optimistic!
I have a craft room for the first time in years and I keep moving stuff around to fit it all in. Found some stuff and now it's missing again! Chase is the aussie and previous episodes set him up as not trustworthy. I don't understand this current line. Seems like cop harrassment should be chargable.
yeah, I'm expecting the electricity to go anytime...the winds must be at least 50km outside
It's a sunny 75 here with a nice breeze :) Will be that way all week, yay!
how nice, hoot! I love having an "office" (most of my work is art), though at the moment it is still not put together from the skylight episode! *fuss fuss*
yeah i didn't think they were allowed to freeze people's assets to pressure them to give info about someone
*throwing peculiar glances at bunny*
I am very glad we didn't get the weather we were told we were getting. Sorry it seems to have gone to some of you!
yes, it's a good thing House and his cohorts aren't bound by that pesky reality thing
Cops like him give cops a bad rep
what bugged me is the cop was accusing house of being a bully, when he is a bigger bully than house
it IS a good thing... i want entertainment, not reality. reality is borrrring
and over rated
i dunno, i'd say they're about equal-size bullies
...but House is funny when he's a bully.
Well the show is not reality. How many patients do you think docs get that keep changing symptoms?
*sigh* almost halfway, and must be off. hootowl, if you are of a mind, email me and I will send you the link to some pics of my "office" -- currently a storage space for large bundles of fiberglas...
see you-all later!
good luck in the storm sti
Bye Stid
Will do stid. I my even try to send you some pics of MY mess. May make us both feel better>:D
i have found 5 words in the last hour, lol
I thought you were finished?
nope, did 90% at the flip, then went to bed
good morning people!
Are you listless? I'm done if you need a little help.
Morning Pappa
i am listless. too early in the day for me to get that impatient :)
i got the impression there was another IM besides the 6 i clued, is this true?
Only the plural
aw man, went to the wrong T in my head.

hydra - almost french closed - change last vowel
the fe 5/18 has the same first three letter as the one before + do ra ** fa so
thanks bunny
Thanks, Haz. Didn't see you there.
enrico!
There are 3 co 7's or an odd tr 6 & 7
i mean, eureka!
I was on the phone for a while, hydra. Hello!
i think i need the tr 6 & 7
The tr is spelled like what you set to go off when a cake is in the oven, then plural.
TR6/21 what you use to tidy a beard
I'm still down near the beginning, hurshy. Looking for the es and fs
thanks bunny, that's a big help!
...minus one of the double cons for the beard trimmer
7's out of the way, and only 3 more 6's. i feel better.
And SHOOT! I didn't mean to do that! Sorry.
My fingers are faster than my brain (that's not saying much though).
lol
tr 6/18 those who score points in rugby

fe 4/7
ah, here was me vainly seeking another 5, ty
the dreaded 14!
sa 5,10 please. I have the plastic wrap.
can i get a clue for the os7 please?
The majority of the 6's build off a word before them...
bone prefix + caroline ingalls
merk - spanish for holy
fool, fool, back to the beginning is the rule
merk, like Mr. CLuse with different vowel at end.
who's Caroline Ingalls?
Hursh, maybe some coffee or a nap would help....
little house on the prairie...
Try the bone prefix + opp of dad
OS 7/32 Bone prefix + opposite of PM
i don't drink coffee, and i don't think i can fall asleep so soon after waking up. i'm ok though. so i'm slow, what else to i have to do?
*do
got it...thanks everyone.
Ohh, I would die without my coffee, really, not being figurative. Need caffiene like I need air.
you're like lorelai :)
good morning everybody!
There is a te 6 that is like the word for a small shaking during earthquake, invert the 2nd and 3rd letters
how about the first om5/12?
Morning Charm!
mor*yawn*ning charm
Hey, bunny. sorry to interrupt your nap, hursh!
you know i thought of that and didn't try it cause i was like, that's not a word. how silly can one girl be?
thanks charm :)
anagram of Rome
Blood, om + spanish for house, c***
thanks bunny
i mean thanks bunny and hi charm
ack my brain is elmer fuddled
Another odd one, st 6/18 - st 5/10 (harsh or uncompromising) + vowel
Uh oh, not as in "I'm goin wabbit huntin'" Elmer?
yup, ye olde bones in centres of chests, have that one.
and i have blackest sa6/21 and witty sa6/18
he may be hunting rabbits in my brain, bunny, but *i* would never harm a hare in my head
be vevy, vevy quiet. hursh is pwaying babble....
There are 2 sa 6's, 3 se 6's, 1 sn 6, 1 st 6
I just caught that...
well then i do not need any s 6's
:) :) :)
so my 2 6's must come from A, M, R or T
and i have looked to try to build 6's off my five but either i don't have the fives or i've already built 6's on them
5 ta 6, 4 te 6, 1 ti 6, 4 tr 6
aha, a TA
AND a TE
ta from bottom, te from right
hm...how about the ra5/14?
ta 6/21 - baked in the sun + ***reational vehicle (RV)
ra5/14 - sounds like what you do to an itch
ra 5/14 - spell like when you scra*** an itch
i'd like a nice ra5et set for christmas
thanks all.
thanks bunny :)
There are two te 6/21's that only differ by the last vowel.
looking
got
The other two build off the te 4/4's wit a more of tense.
wit + with
There is the coffee really kicking in, wit = with. I'm gonna step out for a smoke real quick.
nooooooooooooooooooooo
Just 5 minutes!!
i mean the smoking, not the taking a break
irony check: my last 4 was the easiest one...
ea4?
the third one, which I could have sworn I had typed early on
lol
I only smoked half of one, A for effort?
yay
bye everyone. can't seem to concentrate....
Bye Charm
i can't concentrate either but i am not going to let that stop me!
i am going to poke along on my merry aimless
way
can i get the 2nd re6/21?
ae 6, am6, 2 ao 6, 2 ar6, as6, at 6
bunny i done with 6's, those t's you gave me were the last
We are supposed to be concentrating? So much for the induced trancelike state of zen reckoning
re + like the painting **n* Lisa, change that n to another con
Then that just leaves you littlies, yay Hursh!
thanks again bunny
yw
yayyayayay
I'm outta crackers for a meat loaf, can't I use oats?
bread crumbs or oats would work
oh yes, oats would be good
i'm a bread crumb fan myself
I have bread crumbs, but they have italian seasoning in them. I'll try the oats.
yes i use oats all the time - hi all!
or you can use bread
what's wrong with italian seasoned meat loaf (not that it matters)
bread bread bread!
nut nut nut!
owl owl owl!!!
i use salsa in mine and top it with salsa too
...i would do anything for love, but i won't do that...
I guess I could use the crums, I usually empty any jars that have very little left into a meatloaf, it's kinda my "clean out the fridge" meal.
yah hursh, cause you should use bbq sauce
and i don't eat salsa any other way - go figure - but it has peppers and onions and tomato which i do use in meat loaf
and objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are
this grid is a killer
so now i'm praying for the end of time to hurry up and arrive
I looove spicy food, I eat salsa and chips for a snack all the time. I have to be careful what I put in the loaf though, it's for my Nannie.
The final ti 4,4 please
it doesn't have arsenic or ... or... my favorite poison that i'm too sleepy to remember... in it
307 words? oooooh! easy or hard words?
use mild no hot taste - i know i hate hot
got it
you have them on your wheels merk
I think I'm too sleepy to be doing this.
Hello, all, just dashing in to say hi... :)
i ike hot in stuff like that
Hello Ank
hey ankh!
Mashed taters with cheese and salsa mixed in, yum!
hi ank
what's the poison, somebody help me
Hi, Owl, Bunny, Hurshy, Evan, and all! Long time no see -- last week's eye surgery. But it went well. :)
Bunny, your icon is to die for.
Ty
can i get clues for im6/21?
good, ankh. yes bunny do you make your own icons?
if you were a rodent, and someone mistook you for a mouse instead of what you actually were, you might get annoyed and say, "no, *'* * ***", change a to e
gee blood - whre you are you probaly see them all the time
No, I don't actually have an bunnies...yet.
on top of mosques
this is driving me bonkers
clue for the st8/40 please
im + anagram of what you cry (salty water)
poison?
great clue, Hurshy, except I'd say Imahamster.
not in the grid - my favorite poison... the one used on darts by south american tribes... i can't remember what it is called
got it...thanks again....this grid is kicking my ar4/4!
St 8 - s + what you cry + a tense of consumiong food
inee?
frog poison.
well i said you MIGHT say it ankh, not you WOULD say it
no no it has a name, it's in agatha christie...
thank you bunny
urari or kurari?
Oh by the way Hello everyone
curare! yes thank you bonkler
Hi ren
you have temporarily preserved my sanity
any time
ok anyone have the other two i words beside the tower/s
12 it4s or less in this lane
and it7 a thing that results in a sequence
it 7/28 - it + vowel + **** and rave
nm got them ty
ah, you pulled a peri
no, i breainstormed with myself
well, yes, but, still, if you ask for clues and find the word before you get the clue, you have pulled a peri, no matter how it happened :)
hello hello
Hi Cliff
hewo
somebody needs to tell enable what it is when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie
Before I go -- are you all still seeing me as pearls, or did the candle icon turn up?
*sings passionately: "It's amoorrrrrrray!"*
i see a candle
sear
Thank you, Cliffopa. :) Okay, all, must go... thanks for the chat, bbl!
bunny-i love the bunnies in the barbie car!
bye ankh
ty, they are barbie bunnies, in a barbie world, they're fantastic... (thought I'd stick with the song theme)
awwwwwwww
*cough*
echo....
can i get a clue for the n-word?
you can't use the n-word, it's tabooooo
i mean, um, it's a babblet that means nostrils, a pl with no singular
na 5/10 - rhymes with another word for rabbit
haha...not that one hurshy..unless that's your clue, in wich case it was way over my head.
lol bunny, you should try to make ALL your clues involve a rabbit somehow
got it...thanks.
My brain doesn't function on that high of a level, or even the levels underneath that for a ways.
i needs 3 s's, at least 2 of which are 5's, and my monkeys... i dunno... sleeping?
i have all the s's hurshy if you want some clues.
i would love some clues if you can figure out which are the weirdest ones :) :) :)
ok.
do you have the one that's like St. Nick?
yes
so5/16 - couch + vowel?
sa 5/12 - sa + he has a bad ***per
st5/10 - st4/4 + vowel?
ok yes on the first two but i can't make the so go...
st 5/10 - s + anagram of what oak, maple, and pine are
sn5/10 - a type of drum, or a trap.
sorry...it's couch + consanant.
still can't find it...
I am missing the ma 4,5 and ma 5,12 following it. They come either right before or after the female horse.
two words - so+ morocco is *** away from you TO.
ma 4/5, planet close to sun, add a vowel for the ma 5/12
ty blood
down to 5 to go, yay
I have those. I start with the ma, repeated vowel, and short cane. Then I have ma + vowel + pl. Next is either what I am missing or the horse.
There are three ma 4,5 and 5,12 all in a row. I am missing one of the combos, not the horse or the planet.
for the o's i have paddles, oven, swear, and an om4/5 - waht am i missing please?
99 words to find in the grid/ 99 words to find,/ half an hour to do it in, 99 words to find. lalalalal
a small store?
I have that one also.
Next is the horse, then the two I clued, then ma 4/5 (shopping center), then ma 5/12
lol inge - good luck
ooh bunny what is that ma5/12 that last one you said
rimes with that weaponm they use in...star wars
That one someone clued me hours ago. The store and then the owner of a slave I have for the 6.
got it got it pulled a peri
you need vertical post on a ship?
TO, om 5/12, oc 5/12 & 6/21
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
have that
ty bunny* geos to work*
Then there is an om 4 & 5 combo, like H**** Simpson & plural
you need 5/12 that rhymes with a weapon they use on star TREK?
now i need SARR
i missed that plural ty
There are two om 4/5
ok got om 5 oc 5 & 6
Merk, after the ma 4/5 that sounds like a gun, ma 4/5 (ship post), ma 6/21 (opp of slave), ma 5/16 (strike to lite a fire), ma 4/6 (subject in school)
botheration i am tired
sounds like a gun?
sounds like a gun?
go the other om5 ! one to go!
oo got the A
SRR
I think I've narrowed it down to the ma 5,12 that follows the small store.
Sorry, I meant ma 5/12 that sounds like a gun (off Star Trek) or beam, la***
some cats like to chase the beam of a la... pointer
yeah yeah yeah
what bunny said
Ah, thank you.
next ironic moment: I can stop looking for the first ce5 (this grid is full of such moments for me today)
Duh, take the cross outta ma 6/21 for the ma 5/12. I get to complicated...
whoo hoo! over the halfway mark. lol
this grid is a pain
Yay pappa
especially when you can't use a list
Fireworks! Finally! Thank you one and all.
you got that right, TO
well done merk!
yaya merk! a real accomplishemnt today
why can't you use a list TO?
because of the firewall
ahhh
Congrats Merk!!
firewall fireball *ready aim FIRE*
i've typed maerstro severla times now
lol
congrats merk
Some words just flowed, but it was a tedious grid at times.
bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling ting-a-ling-a-ling
i mean maestro i think maybe i should go shopping instead
is there an o word for bone in here?
yes bone word 7 letters
but it's a bad bone thing
got it
im having probs with the couch plus a vowel
that is cause it is couch plus a consonant
lol..thx hushy..thatll do it
shot through the heart, and you're to blame, babble, you give love a bad name
and i already had it...grrr..
*sympathizes with rolin*
how to you spell sofet/soffet/sofit/soffit
soffit
ty dr. bernabo sir
TO, I put the 2nd letter list in my profile so you can get to it, hope it helps.
aww you should be bunnysweet instead of bunnyvicious
"In the land of the pigs the butcher is king" (nothing like a new Meatloaf song)
nice nice bunny
don't get the bad bone clue, help please
since when is the king the executioner? kings don't do the dirty work. meatloaf songs never make any sense.
oi! The R, S, and T list is a bit dizzying.
you know the prefix pab? like women can get o****perosis as they age?
yes, but they are high energy and help with babbling, house cleaning, and grading (not necessarily in that order)
and then it ends with caroline ingalls
zing zing zing
thanks hurshy
oh my gosh i am so prejudiced, i cannot believe i just thought to myself, "house cleaning? but you're a male!"
wow! was that a little house on the praire reference I just saw? Haven't thought of that in decades!
trying to sell the house, people are coming over, and the office is decidedly my mess to clean
Here, I have to have clues like this one, os 7 - os + anagram of digits on feet + opp of dad... I have a tiny brain.
starring michael landon, karen grassle, melissa gilbert, melissa sue anderson, allison arngrim, etc etc
lol bunny.
but the books are better
oh doc, don't go an reinforce my prejudices now by minimizing it
yeah, my mom used to read me those books when I was really little
Just yesterday my wife said if she died she would make sure the kids made me sell the house because I would never keep it clean, so I'm pretty sure I'm reinforcing at least one sterotype here
my mom read them to me when i was 6 and as soon as we finished i said "again!" and she said no, if you want to read them again you have to read them yourself and that is how she manipulated me into reading my first chapter books.
for which, naturally, i am now grateful.
Never read them. My mom made me read "Mary Poppins" so I would know why the movie was wrong.
apparently, she didn't have any trouble getting me to read... she would read to me, and then (I am told) I would try reading on my own, alone...
I've never read Mary Poppins, didn't even know there was a book, but I can tell you that the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies are wrong, wrong, wrong!
but the downside of that is that I've not learned to pronounce all words correctly. Since I wasn't really instructed, I have been a phonetic pronouncer, and even still I struggle with that sometimes
doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo, doo DOO doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo doo, doo dooooooooooooo doo doo!
Series of Mary Poppins books. The new broadway show is the songs from the movie but more like the original stories (which is why it is nicknamed "Scary Poppins").
IE until last year I've always pronounced "gamut" like "GamOOt"
Pappa, it's OK, I'm from Texas, nobody speaks correctly here, you can re-locate :)
yeah i thought the name penelope was pen-a-lope
HA! good one bunny... My family is Backwoods tennessee, so I fit in there, too. ;)
lol Hursh, you should have heard the first time I trie to pronounce Caliope. lol
well if they are going to make things so counterintuitive, it really isn't our fault, is it
There ya go! I don't think I've pronounced a "g" on the end of an "ing" word...ever!
that's what I say! you know... spanish is so much easier... everything is pronounced just like it's written. lol same in italian, too... well... almost
Bunny: do you know the difference between a violin and a fiddle?
Uh, I thought they were the same...
one's got strings, the other's got Straangs
(is bunny supposed to say, "what's a violin?")
lol, I like that!
;)
i need a q pls..i have the 5/16 x 2, 6/27
oh! i forgot i was supposed to be finding words!
i can play the banjo and harmonica very poorly. Don't laugh.
1 more qu 5 rolin
another 6/27
at ye olde beginning of ye qu list
There are two qu 6/27
qu 6/27 - add a vowel into the first qu 5/16, 4th place
first tr6/21?
bunny, could you just do me a huge favor and tell me how many S5's there are?
ack, nvm, just got it
whoops... sorry rolin, I read that wrong... i thought the "x2" was attached to the 6 letter words
I counted 10.
aha, that would mean i need 2 r5 and one s4
4 ra 5, 7 re 5, 2 ri 5, 4 ro 5
all right, I've got to run off to work... i'll see you all later!
The only s 4's I see that are a little off the wall are sa 4/4 before the sa 6/18 (leave off the last two letters for the 4)
oh hmm then maybe did you count the s's wrong? that seems like i just need one re5.
Bye pappa
I might have counted the r's wrong, let me double check.
There are 10 s 5's.
yes, and i found my s4
got it..thx
2 r5's... sigh.
I did, there are 5 ra instead of 4
ok ra and re
got ra
add a vowel onto ra 4/5
no it was the ra + hail fellow well ***
golly GEE
point total?
re + opp of leg re + plural of spiky plant, ca*** (then change vowel for another re 5)
ah, there, the spiky plant thingy
yay 1000 points to bunny
and deepest apologies to all who watched that root-canal-esque battle to the finish
You're done?
i know it was not a pretty sight
yeah
Congrats !
ty
And get some rest tonite! I better go mush this meatloaf together, yech. See ya'll later.
well im over half way...but NO idea about the 9...and only have 2 8's...its gonna be a long night
i LOVE mushing meatloaf

miranda, good idea..
hi nut
Hi 'nut
slowly wending my way through this grid
wise, miranda. I just set up the classes so there's never an occasion for excuse-giving.
It has worked, actually--and again, I'm very sympathetic when a death is reported and always glad to read the obit.
What do you teach?
any clues for the 9?
feh. back later. the panic level represented by my inbox has gotten to high to ignore
logic (at the U of Florida)

Hi Oggy - slow
I wannabe thegirla he gives his hoodie to wear && cuddles up next to me when its cold i want him to come up behind me && wrap his arms around my waist catch me off guard && whisper in my ear you look beautiful
hey oggy! I'm online, it's gotta be good!
I want to get down to 100 before I hit the list... but I am hitting a wall!
that's lovely I'mlost
stid, have u been having trouble then
i still need 120
the weather has been very unsettled -- trees down everywhere on my side of the state. you, oggy?
go oggy go!
I am avoiding making cards for the boys' teachers... LOL it's tough to find something fresh and new year after year.
not too good here either, rain, wind and more rain, but dry and cold today.
dry is not bad...
dry IS bad - our whole state seems to be on fire
day off today, so went to my grandson concert, it was great.
both are bad when done in extreme
{{{lynxxx}}} I have been reading about the fires... our problem is opposite. there is so much rain that the rivers the salmon spawn in are choked with debris. Trees are falling over in light breezes (not to mention our big gusts today) because the soil is so saturated... if only we could ship you some of our weather!
how nice oggy! what does he play?
my boys have their school concert tomorrow night -- will be their first real performance together as brass players (one trumpet one trombone)
he only sang songs, he is only 3
Good grief Stid - that does sound a bit too much (the rain I mean not the brass)
*big grin* oh! preschool concerts are THE BEST! I love to hear little ones sing. they have so much fun
they all sang and no tears from anyone, which was good.
any clues for the im"s?
im 6: (hurshy's clue), someone says hey there's a mouse, and since you're bigger than a mouse, you say, IM * *** (change the vowel in the last word to another); then plural for the 7
stid, you lost me
im6 is a hostel for pilgrims.
thanks oggy
okay, I'll try again bichon: IM + the last four letters of the tower from which an imam calls min****

Hi judi

Oh, so that's what the 10 second rule is all about, then?

(starin' right at the word for hoursm as usual!)
any way to import word list into lickety other than manually?
somebody more computerwise than I will have to anser you khanflict
right at the top of lickety's there is a box "add a word" type all your words in there and it will list them in the right order
ea5,12?
our home...
ea 5: terra firma
DocGwen... this planet
khan, nope. what I do is, after i have a lot of words, copy the printable list to a word processor, then just type in what's missing
cuffs, thanx, i'am feeling awfully dense at this mo
gotcha
I know that feeling very well myself DG
I print out the printable list for myself and cross off the words I have found, then go looking for more
now i need ea4,4 after the planet one (afraid it will be utterly obvious)
those boxes in lickety confuse me
Never Eat Shredded Wheat, gwen
i tried using lickety's boxes, and type-in feature, and it's too slow, and partially inexplicable
ea+ **dative to sleep better
Fireworks at last

ra5/12 = an animal ra* + an extraterrestial (shortened)

query: do we think that in the spin doctors song "two princes", their intent was to say, "if you want to call me Baby, just go ahead now" or was it "if you want to call me, baby, just go ahead now"

i incline to the latter myself.

Hi mrp!
hi lickety!
hi smooth pappa!
lickety, you heped me out in a BIG way today. :)
hi lickety. thank you for all the help you give us via your clues
hi metal and smooth and lickety et al
hi mr. p!
glad to hear everyone! Anyone see the new stats from Monday?
and lickety too!
not I
nor i
the middle column - right at the bottom - shows how many unique words still to appear in grids
i don't understand, lickety
ahhh... very nice lickety! I'm a total stat freak. lol even though I abhor math.
it's shows that there are 3903 possible 4 letter words, and over the last 250 grids, 3216 off them have been there - so only 700 ish to go before all 4 letter have words appeared in the grids
The other stats I like is the race on most popular first letter - S and T battle over the lead
wow... and just over half of the 5 letter words.
and lowly R bringing up a shameful 3rd place. lol
ohhhh, your stats... I thought you meant the "rankings"...
Hi all
I like the new set-up on your page L

lickety, are you a simpsons fan?
sorta pappa - but don't let the kids watch - so that means I don't watch much.
ahhh... well, that quip I made about the R made me think of a scene from an episode where they were having the olympics, and either a japanese won a bronze, or it was a japanese anoucer with the line " a shamful, shamful bronze" :)
scary! simpsons has been in my life nearly as long as my father was. lol
Hi everyone!

Hi Dee

Me also
hi ho ho ho
lol don't be sad. :) I was just thinking about how young i was when simpsons started...
and then I was thinking about how a single has changed so many little things in modern culture
a single show
HOHOHOOOOOOOOOOO
in a single word: d'oh!
ok, smooth - it just seemed sad when it came out.
well... it was sad when he died, but it was a long time ago

LOL pappa fair question; I sleep poorly at night and love coffee, so I sip away!

lol dee, I sleep poorly at night, too... but a melatonin pill usually takes care of that right away. :)
can't sleep whether I drink it or not
I sleep poorly at night, too, but I blame the babies! (That really aren't babies anymore)
I'm srry to hear that! Insomnia is not a fun affliction!
They are sure beautiful!
thanks, Dee
I have so enjoyed babbling! I feel blessed to have found this site; folks are delightful and it keeps me from tossing & turning ...
what is melatonin?
melatonin rocks, dee! it is an enzyme ( i think enzyme) that your body produces to make you sleepy at night. That drowsy feeling. You can buy supplements over the counter that are completely natural. It only stays in your sytem for 4-6 hours, usually much less than 6, so you don't have any hangover feeling in the morning, it's so much cheaper than a prescription, and helathier
infact, they are looking at it right now in other uses, even as a potential cancer treatment. it is a powerful antioxidant, and supposedly helps the immune system, as well.
do you know if it would interact badly with prescription rheumatoid meds?
I don't think so, since it's something that is produced naturally anyway... but I'm definitely not a doctor either.
you should probably ask your pharmacist just to be sure
thks for info; I'll ask my doc at my next appointment
yeah, definitely!
dee, do you know if your meds contain any MAOIs?
sometimes tylenol pm or xtra strength tylenol help, but I hate taking any more meds than I have to
