Remember that a candle alone is a small thing,
a person alone is a small thing,
a nation alone is a small thing.
We cannot hope
either as individuals or nations
to reach our highest capabilities
until we help those around us reach theirs.
To be strong
the strong must serve.
In this spirit is celebrated
the Festival of Hanukkah
the Festival of Light --
to commemorate the eternal bridge of light
which reaches from creation itself
to the radiant spirit of freedom.
.I studied history in universities here and in Germany, I ended up teaching German to just about every age group. Since retirement I do volunteer work for the Detroit Symphony at the Max M. Fisher Hall and tutor some children in German. I have been married to my botanically gifted husband, a retired university professor and bromeliad lover, for 45 years. And live with our 14-year old dachshund mix Nika, two finches, a hamster named Snoopy and numerous gold fish in a house with an attached greenhouse. I love water aerobics, mystery novels, African violets, spider plants and classical music. And since January 2006 I am addicted to babble. Anyone need a clue???
