I will - it's lovely to have her home.

She's in Edinburgh, so across the Irish sea.
ah, I see that now in your bio . . .my daughter's not across the sea but it's an 11-hour drive!
we had that kind of drive when my son was in uni...
That's a looong way by British standards. She's delighted to be home - no work and a great welcome from the dog!
hi everyone
Hate to interupt. But does anyone have the si6,18?
I can imagine--I'm sure my dogs will just about knock her down when she walks in the door!
hey, kierlex
we used to drive to see him and back in a weekend haz...and when he came home over the hols we had to\ pack everything up and haul it home on a trailer
how are you all this eve/morn
If you drove for 11 hours in the UK you would probably end up in the water both ends, unless it was round the M25 orbital around London, you can drive on there forever lol

Cyborg, Sir Mixalot says ' i like big butts and i can not lie'
I'm back with mint tea
sounds like a double negative that Mr Mixalot
if I can drink this I'll try an apple
Thats the good thing kth.
I know that im not super fit but when you are stuck on s.r.i's for 2 years, crutches for 3 months and a missing mind then things happen. I have accepted the way i am and get jack with the whole size obscesion

Im not trying to loss weight and i rarely eat junk food. I just don't exercise as i'm a lazy monkey and i stuffed my knee and hate excersise after 3months of rehab
ANywho where is everyone else

huh? didn't say a bleeding negative word gee Wanted to know were the hodog and fran went
you said, So what is it with blokes judge how big a women is? ... giving me a hard time, you have control over your intake, so take it
NO i asked you a direct question Cyborg not every male in the chat
yes you did, but went off on a tangent saying I was judging, and now leading to this arguement, best avoided by saying nothing

Good day, mattygroves

Good to see you kthsdn, and that you can smile! way to go!
gkkd morning
Good morning, ConX
hiya br
so right kth its better to bitch than it is to blow up
is it just me who can't see a single word in the grid today?
me too
my girlfriend is leaving for japan next week and it may turn out that the next time she goes shes not coming back
Some days I only see letters; the words elude me.
im struggling with37 words,for 2hours of work
why not herin
cause she dont want to shes wants a fresh start after leaving someone long term
like me then, a fresh start in a new place should be good for her as I hope it will be good for me
sad to see a friend go though I guess
Call me very selffish but she is the only girlfriend i have
Hi Kate - I'm coming into this a little late - I'm sorry to infer your news - is this a follow on from last week's issues?
yes matty
oh herin that is a shame
I'm sooo sorry, Kate - if there's anything you need in London, you need only ask...
thanks matty, I'll be flying from london, I don't know if I'll time for anything while I'm there but if do get chance, maybe we could meet for coffee or something
Sure! I'd be happy to - when are you flying (sorry, I'm not allowed on Babble from work anymore, so may be asking questions that have already been answered.)
hopefully around jan 12
Where are you flying to?
toronto
Is that your original home?
no, my family emigrated there 3 years ago
Are you bringing your children?
yes
Have you flown long distances with them before (sorry for the 20 questions!)
I have with my youngest, the other 2 have never flown
Erp! How old are there (again with the questions!)
2,4 and 6, youngest was 9 months when I took her to toronto on holiday
Bring a pair of scissors (safety, obviously) - I used to give them to my daughter and she'd cut the aircraft out of the magazine - kept her amused for ... oh.... whole minutes :D
hi babblers!
hi fran
hey fran you an away
matty, i don't think you can bring anything like that on planes anymore
Good day, FranMag
sorry infernal, got distracted by my daughter
I don't know how strict the rules are right now, I'll have to check
nope nothing sharp, pointie and aerosolie this is what i was told
hi babblerabble! hi conX!
so right fran you were there then not
Oh duh - of course. Because you never know what mischief you can get up to with blunt safety scissors LOL!
lately nothing liquid either!
unless its been bought AFTER passposrt control and you keep the receipt
kth its really nuts to fly at the moment so defianly check out. Yep matty i couldn't fly without my aerosole deoderant last week
The liquid thing has been relaxed, but you can only carry small quantities in clear plastic bags.
hmm, that means someone is making a killing on bottled water sales after passport control!!
10ml I hears
mmm thank goodness we haven 't got that here in oz yet
indeed fran! and it's only valid for one flight!
lipstick is a nono
huh no lippie gee it was bad without my anti stink, Fran they tried to get me to pay $4 aus for a drink at the airport i went no i think not
Kth there is heaps of things kids can do. The airlines are really good with small frie
hi all, I have miss you guys. good to be back.
thing to do is bring an empty plastic bottle and fill it with water after control from sinks in ladies
my mother traveled with us 3 girls when we were that age kate, since all 3 of us are still living i'm thinking it wasn't that bad.
Hello, Alien
airlines bring out all sorts of kiddie games all wrapped up in nice bags
hey thats a good idea
hi alien!
hi alien
I saw a thing on microsoft office that you can print out to make paper dollies
A portable DVD player is another sure fire hit. They weren't around when my daughter was small, sadly.
What airline are you flying with?
Thanks Alien for turning up you gave me a clue
ha ha.....I am a little famous today.
oops, just realized it's almost 2am
AH! just spotted you! thank you! :)
i'll say a proper goodbye this time
opps fran and bye
bye fran!
goodnight everyone!
Just missed FranMag!
the canadian transport website says laptops are fine which is good, it doesn't say much about liquids, i guess I'll keep looking

Hello herin

An excuse I'll never be able to make...
good to hear its a bit better! did your daughter arrive safely?
i love the laptop its handy when you need to lay down and veg that and we are all being nerdie. We have 3 computers running in the house
She did. My icon is in her honour. It's good to have her gome.
that's nice haz, I can't wait to get home to my mum either
:)
I met her at the airport and typically she had someone carrying her case for her. The nice man lifted into the car as well!
she's got life sussed then and how it works! lol
She knows the power of a smile.
thats nice haz i just saw my parents for christmas as we couldn't afford airfairs
yep! that's what does it - good for her
herin, i'm not getting your u clues... :(
see why can't blokes get help that easy
lol
/me smiles
um U.G.L.Y you aint got no alibi your ugly plural
Guys pee in a urinal minus a letter
Tricky - her best so far was when she was waiting for a bus to connect with the airport bus. It was late, she was getting agitated and a man in the queue behind her gave her £5 to get a taxi!
oh, fish slap! other U! thanks
rofl
Oh Haz thats a good talent. I only get treated that way by being a bmbo
Hey. Back.
wb matty
She's no bimbo but she can charm her way out of most things.
Back to see where the other half lives :)
I never said that i am saying that i get treated like that by being a bimbo some girls are just lucky and can be sweet and stuff which is cool
good morning babblers! is this your daughter we're talking about Haz?
hiya sprite!
Yes, Bloodaxe - just home for the holidays.
hello blood
HI sprite and bloodaze
why can't nunies be a word lol
you sound like such a proud mother! it brightens my day!
Youre lucky to have all the kids home for the holidays haz
hey herin - got the other u ! thanks!
I am still stuck on that pee one.
I suppose at 22 and 19 they're not children any more, but yes, I'm a proud mum.
wow, you're in the grid :)
the missing letter is a cons aliena
but haz, they'll always be your babies....
I have one U - I think (as well as being where men pee minus a letter) is also, I think, an archangel.
Alien men pee in a URINAL minus a cons sorry to spell it out
that was quick, sprite!
Tag blood i was about to say that
*sigh*
OOOH, I was trying to add a letter. SLAP!
then DON'T spell it out :(
In a sense, yes, Bloodaxe, but being a mother entails training them to be independent. BUt it's lovely when they say they're glad to be home.
im so ugly im plural
some of us need clues like that sprite.... sorry!
No you don't. A little bit more faith in your ability to think for yourself!
Wouldn't it be great if there was a private message facility, where people who wanted 'spelled out' obvious clues could get them without giving it away for everyone else?
sometimes the brain doesn't work tho'
opps once again sorry i think i need sleep as my cryptic is a bite wonkie today
it sure would, matty.
I think this is the first time i have gaffed for days
ok any non spelly out clue for the second u in left column (not the wee one)?
No worries, ((herinfernal))
Ode to a Grecian plural, con...
ummm ug plus not the truth
ur4/ - plural containers, especially for gardens or ashes
thats about as criptic as i can get
Oooh, I'd managed to completely miss the fact there are TWO Us. I have one on the left (the archangel).
And now the funerial container.
thanks haz - silly word to miss!
nice clue, lady - for the wrong U, but nice clue :)
Glad you got there, Con.
that is the only 2 us i have. Once again it isses me off when people spell out clues i just had a brain fart
lol haz - it actually wasn't that hard!
The longer U on the left - is UR5/12 - translate this from text speak - You Are myself...then add You Can Call me **.
Or ur5 - Mr Geller meets Mr Gore
LOL!
Haz, that's a MUCH better clue!
Two good examples of HOW to clue from Haz & matty.
As long as people know who Mr Geller was! Thanks.
i m a text nut and i still dont get it
No Rizla?! How are we supposed to roll our smokes (British joke!)
But you know the word, herin!
LOL, matty. Brand name.;)
grin, matty. Works for Dutch too
i got it but my brain is in la la land
'why drink and drive when you can smoke pot and fly?'
Oooh - THREE favourite babblets and counting. I can sew a dolphin in a mountain with materials from my needle case :D
Haz - Your daughter's smile worked on Paul. Said he'd carry her case. LOL. (Hope your back's easing a bit.)
watching the vulcano :)
Oh Jacula - glad to hear her power works via the web as well! I'm abut at my limit for sitting at the minute so I'll have to disappear soon. BUt better than yesterday. (no help needed with dressing!)
LOL ConX
matty - Thanks for those 5 words. Hadn't noticed the Babblets.
hello all. everybody is up early
Haz - Hope it's better soon. (Know the feeling!) I'm off in a minute for dinner. P's cooked this time. Then to cinema.
Off I go - bye all!
hello mousey, not really early - tis nearly lunch time here
'Bye, Haz.
bye
bye haz! take care!
*hug* Haz (gently)
Morning 6a-that's okay-go ahead an Babble instead of responding to my emails. I know what's important(-:
I'm half way - gonna have a break. see you all later!
DOZEN ANY1 SAY HI ANYMORE!!
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii mousey! Sorry, was chatting on msn
i said hi mousey... at 6.25 am!
who now!
bye ConX
Eva? Who are you typing to?
HI ANYMORE!
I was away in kitchen. Back now.
grin
eva was talking to all of US
Jac-a very old friend of mine to whom I introduced Babble a couple of months ago. Now she babbles instead of writing home....but it's all my fault(-:
Eva - Ah, I see. You confused me for a moment. (Not hard!) LOL
And of course I can tell exacly what's she's up to by checking who's online
no its not eva
Not hard to be confusing either
i agree!
hi mousey
Strange chatlog today. I'm off for dinner. BBL.
enjoy, Jac.
she also doesn't multitask so well, so if she's focused on the grid, I have to put a lot of Merp heads on the chat log before she notices
didnt notice ME!
hi eva i missed your message being deeply embedded in st's
There you are! I've been talking about you
yes I see - that's fine this is a very public place
now im confused waaaaaaaaaa!
We all admire you for having your priorities right, 6a
bye jac
now of course I can't keep my eyes off the box
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! and dont ask why im sleeping its 7.37am!
I'm back to the grid, but you should check your email later.Got 161 on the first swing through, and now it's much slower
Strange to have he4/5 and na4/9 in the same grid.
*** sniff sniff *** it's that odour again ;)
why isn't the na4/9 a proper noun?
because it doesn't have to be with a capital
Ha! Just filled that word in, thanks to the heads up from Sprite...and didn't peg what it was - I mentally pronounced the Z as soft (zzzzz rather than tz)
ah. As in the soup na___
thank you Eva -- I was just going to ask to have it used in a sentence. Good morning btw everyone
yw
im back so hi guess____________ thats fun!____________________________
back later
who now
Speaking of heads up: if you have the smiling L5, don't forget the S5 and W5 that are similar. I just tried the ending on everything and was rewarded :)
Supidly, I had the W, but not the L! Go figure
LOL! You are a real babbler, matty - this was proof!
HA Sprite! Any clues on the sevens - I don't have any of those yet...
booyika booyika 619 hey booyika booyika dasoneplablow
in7: badge or distinguishing mark of office or honor
en7: to gulp down
Got the IN one now, working on the EN
rey mysterio!
gL7: pl, some people are allergic to them. "the tough, viscid, nitrogenous substance remaining when the flour of wheat or other grain is washed to remove the starch"
did i confuse anyone
you confused the hell out of me
ta7: 3rd person singular of ta6 - make more closely fitting
That's two and three - we're on a roll (thanks Sprite - your clues are brilliant).
hi all again
and my personal favorite for today: wa7. Tough outside, tasty inside, lovely with mandarin and salad. Plural of wa6.
wb Ric
thanks sprite -- got them all
dont swear kth im just 8
yeah right.
yw :)
TrickyRic, your icon is so clever! Love the text --
OK, just working on the TA7 now... (thanks again!)

Good Morning Babbleers :)
hey Faerie :)

I'll have to check it out. I was also referring to the phrase on your profile, of 'move along now'...LOL
hi faerie
Hello Mousey I see that you are acting up today you need to play nice
*ah the smell of roasting troll*. Fab
sorry mousey, I forget that it's not all adults
hi faerie
I heard they are lovely with Wa7 too, matty

Hi ch and everyone :)

bye ch
go back to bed Mousey lol
bye ch :)
Right. Having removed my foot from my mouth (my typing fingers?) I'm still stuck on this TA7 (to make more closely fitting, apparently) - any other wee hinties?
i dont want to go back in my mouse hole
Do you have the ta4/5 - 5/12 combo?
Not yet - give me a minute...
It has about the same meaning as the 6 and 7
That was enough, sprite - I now have that combo and the six and seven. Thanks!
hahaha Matty we just have to overlook and not encourage I guess
gross matty just GROOS
opps
glad you found them, matty :)
What be gross, mouse?
Matty do you collect Amy Brown? I have several of her prints they she is awesome.
ya foot in ya mouth!!
I bet it was a clean foot. It is not gross, it is incredibly nimble!
dout it
Not intentionally, Faerie - I just did a google search for Christmas dragon... :D
My foot is very clean - I've just had a shower ;)
I knew it, matty :) I like the dragon!
Ok....Matty....Amy Brown does do incrediable artwork and the dragon is very Nice choice :)
ok i didnt need to hear that lol
Doubt is the beginning of wisdom. They say.
What I saw online looked lovely. You may have noticed my fondness for dragons over the last few months :D
I have been stealing some of them from you for a while, matty. You have given a few links too, and some of those dragons are in my screensaver.
sprite i said dout
That's ok - I nick them from the net, anyway ;)
hmm i could have done with knowing this amy a few week back - i had to do a dragon theme for a client lol it went so bad you wouldn't believe
yep Matty kinda like me and the faeries :)
Should have told us then, Ric! We could have send you dozens of inspiring ones :)
*could have sent (blush)
Yep - we have them saved and linked (google search is a wonderful thing - start with dragon, add different words, and there you go!)
ditto to Sprites comment
yea but its finding work that isn't copyrighted that a problem
and i failed big time trying to draw them myself lol
very hard indeed Ric
I wanna find ONE more word before going to the lise....hmmmmmmmmm
witch 1 faerie
which one what Mousey
oh never mind
let me see, matty... you have the N5/16, the sound a horse makes?
Good morning Babblers. I am laughing because when the grid first comes up I guess the word total before I see the actual #. I just guessed < 100, but somehow with these letters there are 211!
(list that should have been LOL)
Hi Mousey! You are hodag's grandson, right?
yeper
I do now, Sprite - I can list if I want now (stupid these rules we impose on ourselves!)
Hi Scrabbler - in a way you are right, they are kinda hard to find, those other 100 ;)
Scrabbler the same thing happened to me
that's because we will always need a challenge, matty ;)
me too
yawn
Mousey, I think your grandmother said you are 8 yrs old, is that right?
correct!
You are pretty smart for an 8 yr old, although I probably shouldn't tell you that.
why nt
not
Grandma sadi that you lost your internet privileges, so are you allowed to be on the computer right now, or are your parents sleeping?
fireworks *wipes brow* Can I help with any clues?
Congratulations SPRITE &~&~&~&~&~&
Congrats sprite!
WTG Sprite, I just started
Whoa, sprite, congrats!!! I have 206 to go. LOL
hey peri *hug*
Good Morning Everyone
i dont know who said but its not true
Hi peri
lol, closing in on me fast you are, Scrabbler!
I'm surprised you're allowed unsupervised internet access, mousie - I'd be very wary at allowing an 8 year old unfettered access.
Congratulations, sprite!
thanks :)
afternoon all...im back to avoid shooting myself...ive been marking mock exams... *sigh*
Your grandma told me, mousey. I don't want you to get in any trouble.
oh no she said i lost my internet password for babble
Oooh, my daughter just did her mocks - how is it going?
hi rolin, LOL! *gently removes pistol from rolin's hand*
the babble thing lost my password
oooh matty...i have a few kids who think the audience for captaion scotts 1903 antarctic diary........are people who want to go camping in the antarctic....*falls in a pique on the floor*
and errr.... you were their teacher, rolin? :)
Please explain "mocks" to us non-UK folks.
not for the whole time sprite..lol
Mousey--are you looking for any words, or just chatting?
pretend exams scrabbler
scrabbler....exams in exam conditions to give the kids practioce of the real thing
Mock exams, Scrabbler - this year my 15 going on 16 year old takes GCSEs - these are pretty important, so they do fake ones first. Kinda like the PSATs, I guess.
So, they get double torture...mock then real...LOL
Mocks in general lower the stress on kids and heightens it on the teachers :)
we call them 'prelims' in Scotland- I'm marking mine too!
just chating to early for me to do it
So, the kids were giving you mock answers, rolin?
too right sprite...its a beautiful sunny day here...and im sitting and the dining room table trying to convinvce myself life is worth living
Yes, I understand. The PSATs are done in early 11th grade here in the US, then SATs in late 11th grade and early 12th.
catty...what subject?
LOL, BR!
babble..i feel like theyre takin' the micj for sure
I don't think we have them in Holland. Just sit down and take your exam - if you need practice, you practice at home, lol.
English
Except in specific subjects. So my daughter is doing English language, and lit, maths, statistics, Latin, German, History, Art, Triple Science, RE (religious education), and ICT.
((((Rolin)))) chin up Sweetie :)
me too...*quietly sobbing*...
I hear you rolin.
Whoa, matty! I don't miss those days of studying and exams!
but i must admit...there are some really good responses too...i shall focus on those...
patpat... patpat.... now now :)
Part of the reason for doing Mocks, I think, is that schools are judged by how the kids do in the GCSEs, so it is in the school's interest to raise the grades.
ty....ty....*deep breath*...ill be fine...
Oh gotta go I here my company getting up and moving around so I need to go start breakfast. Have a nice day everyone.
we can also use them for appeals if kids do surprisingly badly in the real exam
absolutely matty... the pressure on teachers 'tp perform'...is incredible
ok, since you are all doing great by yourself, I will remove myself without giving anymore clues :D Have a great day/night/whatever all of you and happy babbling!
and if the thre were no GCSEs, the schools would think learning less important?
could use some help with the 7's, only have the wa7/48
we can only use them in case a student is ill and misses the real thing
Bye, sprite
see ya faerie
Night night sprite!
ooooh no babble...if there were no gcses...REAL learning would take place
Bye sprite and faerie.
bye sprite
see ya sprite
Hi all. I need a clue for en6/18 if anyone has t.
Real learning...critical thinking and analysis, preparation for real life....
so, less rote and more curiosity inspired?
yup..instead of spoon feeding to meet the ctirteria of examination
hydra...en+animal rear end
appeals need to be really strong to be successful. I would love not to have standard grades and highers to think about- it's demoralising to have to teach for assessment all the time.
hydra...en+animal rear end
It's a toughie - on the one hand, I think it's good that there IS a national curriculum - that if a child moves to another area, for example, there is still continuity of education (in theory). In the States, school systems differ widly in quality and content from one area to the next. However, the curriculum over the board (all ages) has become so rigid and so exam based that teachers are forced to teach the exam, regardless of the teacher's personal expertise and interest, and regardless of the kids' expertise, ability and interests.
scrabbler i was talking to you
Thanks, rolin
The same thing happens in med school--students get taught stuff to pass the 3 "Step" exams, but often don't learn how to really care for the patient.
peri, gl = substance that holds things together less the e and number after nine.
exactly matty...and as catty said...teaching to assessment criteria is so stifling...there is no individual expression for teacher or student
that was a mouth full matty
its all about ticking boxes :(
thats cool nonnie
Mousey--I just saw your earlier chat entry, the chat is moving SO fast! You could look for words, you know.
Mind you, when I tell people here that you have to PAY to take the SATs, they are agape.
little boxes..on the hillside..little boxes made of ticky tacky..and we're all made out of ticky tacky and we all look just the same..
And the people in the boxes are drink their martinis dry
thanks Nonnie, almost missed your clue with all the chat about exams :)
(all drink, I should have said)
In the US, the No Child Left Behind federal legislation has been the subject of intense debate. Teachers and schools are scrutinized and tested, the thought being the students will benefit. Seems the debate over teaching methods is global too.
Coffee refill!
We have a bit more freedom up here (I think-correct me if I'm wrong rolin) in that we can teach any texts we want so long as we can teach to the criteria. that is a slight consolation
here its called 'every child matters'... notice the teachers dont matter
From what I gather, though, the No Child Left Behind programme is woefully dumbed down - is that right?
you're welcome, Peri :)
'curriculum for excellence'
yah but if do it to early i get headakes scrabbler
catty....here...any texts within a range set by the board you follow...
(Rolin, where 'just outside of London' do you live?)
in herts...elstree
Oh, mousey! So the chat doesn't give you a headache?
Ah. I'm in Middlesex.
oooh youre londonish are you??..lol
"All children left behind" is the joke here in the US
oh...just across the A41?.... tho middlesex is a big area
"londonish"--LOL
hey all, I'm kind of here again
HI KATE!!! HOW ARE YOU???
how are you doing today kthdsn
hey kth
i'm just floating lol
I'm feeling a lot better today, I'm starting to see a future and some positives
right, that's what I thought. here we can justify pretty much anything (if the school has the resources to provide the text) it's pretty daunting when you first start though...
Kate: Eat, drink, eat drink, eat drink...please!
I'm drinking scrabbler but I'm not ready to eat yet
hey Kate! LOVE the picture.... you not feeling well??
Drink some energy drinks---liquid nutrition. Here we have Boost, Ensure...you need calories to stay strong.
no but the puzzle i consontrate so hard head starts to hert bad only in the morning thouth
catty..when i first moved to the uk...the gcse structure blew me away
catty my marriage broke up and I'm leaving the country, everything was fine 7 days ago and now it's all so confusing and difficult
I'm in SW London - London borough of Richmond.
I woke up with a headache, mousey, so I am here to relax.
Are you going to Toronto, Kate? I am 2 1/2 hrs south, in the US.
matty...thats lovely down there..well the bits ive been to anyway..thats what i find most interesting about living here...how different type of areas live so closely to gether...obe side of the street can be upmarket..cross the road and its less so
yes scrabbler, maybe we can meet up when I get there, it will be so nice to arrive to new friends
kth/....toronto is a really interesting city
Yep - I've spotted that as well (I'm American originally, but been here 18 years)
im hungry i wish dad would hurry up with the baken! yum
Oh I'm SO sorry kate. There's nothing to say really except that it will get better I promise. (I'm speaking as a "child of divorce") That must be really hard though- lots of big changes all at once. I'll send you positive thoughts.....
rolin I visited my parents there 18 months ago, it was a lovely place, the people seemed so different to the ones here, so much nicer
kate, glad to see you. At the risk or repeating the news, at least one babbler lives in teh Toronto area, Sherylr1961, lives in Barrie, Ontario, right outside Toronto.
Toronto is a really neat city!
its my 5th anniversary next tues...i can apply for dual citizenship
Ya know, I STILL haven't got round to doing that. Have you seen the test we have to take to apply?!
It is a huge, diverse city, very multicultural.
thanks inge
toronto is a world class city, i'm about an hour west
heck yah it is!
oh cool bonkler
ha..looks like my partner is back...time for lunch...cya later all..
Where are you, Bonkler? I am 35 miles southeast of Buffalo.
and if you could put your parent's address in your bio, those of us with girls could send some clothes for your three. How old are they exactly?
we should have a babble meet up when I arrive, give me something positive to look forward to
they are 6, 4 and 2 inge
im bored!
Could you tell us their names, Kate, so we feel like we know them?
Jessica is 6, Lauren is 4 and Natalie is 2, there are pics of them on their website at cowbags.co.uk
babble meet sounds great!
i could do a babble meet, interesting to see people when they aren't monkey typing
Oh, just got paged--I am on call still, til 9:30 AM...I'll be back soon.
bye scrabbler
Back to the grid for a minute - an5/14?
Good morning everyone!
back into the grid, 100 to go
hi mom
monkeys are AWSOME and they dont stink at typing bonk!!
Never mind!
bye sc
lol didn't say they stink mousey. without my monkey i'd be lost
Hi Mom, Kate is online, and opening new windows
Hi Kate, so glad to see you are looking forward to coming to Toronto
yins
ooops
Good monring Inge
you do not have monkeys lol!
My husband is fast asleep on the chair - nearly snoring. What shall I do - eyeliner is a thought LOL
I am following the chat ... I have her daughters names and ages
look at my picture mousey. with only one eye, i need monkeys to help steer my flying car.
Oh Matty, my husband fell asleep like that, and being he has a lack of hair we drew a smiley face with eye brow pencil on his head :)
I'm really so glad you're all here and I'm overwhelmed at how much you all care
matty put makeup on him
Oh Mom, I love it - my hubby is folically challenged!
But he's woken up now ;(
lol
lol matty
oh man, that is a shame.
Bonkler, where in Canada are you?
we woke my sweetie up because he took a picture of it and the flash went off. But we have the picture to treasure
you dont have 1 eye you did that on compooper!
I'm back--a mom called about her puking toddler. Kate, I am looking at cowbags.co.uk--your girls are adorable!
and he is a good sport and got a laugh out of it
i'm in kitchener, about 45 minutes to an hour west of toronto
thanks scrabbler
Given the acting thang (on your profile) I was thinking Vancouver, as these days, half the TV Sci Fi is made there.
I just have to change a bum, won't be long
toronto's film industry is still a lot larger than vancouver, but vancouver does the better shows.
bonk you cant trick me. lol
I'm back
Kate, have you made flight arrangements yet?
not yet, I'm waiting until I've got the money in my hand and got the passport forms checked and posted
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! snore! dream! yawn!
I would imagine your mom and sister are quite excited about your coming.
he's borrowing £20k from a friend, he says it's 100% definite that he can get it, but until I see it in my hand...
fi=
I do hope he comes through
things i learned today: i don't have one eye, i don't have monkeys and i can't fool mousey. what will i tell my elephant doctor about this turn of events?
we never put any of our accounts into both of our names, I personally owe £9.5k, so I will have £10.5k to get a flight and get settled
I do wish you and your daughters well.
I'm going to leave him the house and the mortgage and the rest of the debts that he can take ownership of, he'll be in a huge mess, but I'm thankful that he's enabling me to have a fresh start with the girls
you dont have an elephant doctor!
oh no kate---i just started reading the blog---what happened?
everyone has an elephant doctor don't they? :)
my marriage collapsed in the space of a week I've gone from seemingly happy to leaving the country without my husband
Will he want access to the girls, Kate?
gotta scoot, be back later.
oh, poor thing! that's horrible!
he'll always be welcome to see them, he's been a great dad and they love him, but I can't stay here just for the sake of that
oh i thought bonk ment a real one
what! you trying to tell me that old doc pachydermis isn't an elephant? that he isn't a skin doctor? my reality crumbles...
Agreed! But if he takes it legal, you might have complications. ARe you hoping to relocate to Canada, or just visit whilst you work out your options?
Right now my neighbor is going through a similar thing. Its a horrible thing to go through.
he watched my ex drag me through court, he has sworn he won't do that to me
he took you to court?
no I'm going to stay there, we were planning on going together anyway when we could afford to, I'm finally getting to live my dream, only I had thought we were going to do it together...
I assume there is no Reconciliation possible?
no alien, he's made that quite clear
although we are going to stay married for a while so that if he changes his mind he can legally join us in canada
oh--poor thing. I am sure you will make a fine fresh start in canada.
I have to go for a while my auntie is here
take care kth
bye
See you later, Kate.
bye Kate, see you later
See ya later Kate - remember, this ISN'T your fault.
rins
hi all
Yes, Mom, you've got it!
Darn it. So sorry
just found a gl7,40 if anyone wants a clue
burp!
Okay, I will take a clue TrickyRic
natural sugar, and plural it
well almost anyway
bye all
Bye mousey!
so long mousey
Bye mousey
searching ...
bye sc bonk and mom
hi all I'm back
its defined as 'the tough, viscid, nitrogenous substance remaining when the flour of wheat or other grain is washed to remove the starch.' but i think its easier to spot if you think of natural sugar
Some people are intolerant of the gl6/7 combo. You find it in wheat, bread etc. You can buy gl6-free bread, for those who can't digest it.
gl 6 = buttocks muscle, abbr, and not hte beginning but the **d
some people are intolerant of the gl 6/7s. we call them starchists.
Time to leave--breakfast, newspaper, Mass, shopping...I'll be back sometime later today.
bye scrabbler
bye scrabbler
Kate--tell your girls to check their e-mail--
bye
Good morning all. Just read the gl 7 glue. Is there a clue for the gl 6,30 nearer the top?
mornin merk
hi merk
Have you got the gl5/14 above it?
no
I've just begun, but loved the gl discussion and started looking for gl words.
OK, the gl5/14 - think of what happens when you drive into bright sunlight - you see gl5/14 (alt spelling) and then add a letter to turn it into an adjective.
Merk, hirsute-like with a g
Or BabbleRabble's clue LOL!
ty matty i didn't have the extension
hirsute?
glint is my phaentom
i keep seing bunny for some reason
Can anyone clue the second gu5/16 - not the one that probably relates to bird or bat poo?
robbers where a dis***** so as not to be recognised, matty
Thanks Ric!
Are there any words at all that use the third vowel with the gl
yes merk, read matty's clue
morning all
Hi Evan!
hi
morning evan
Good day, evanonut
I did not understand Matty's gl clue.
hey babble rabble, didn't recognize you i'm so used to cartoons.
If I look at someone in a pointed manner, I might gl5/14 at them (alt spelling)
you'll be pleased to hear I'm eating, only an apple but it's a start
Gues what, I haven't left yet--the Babble magnet is pulling me in. Merk--gl4 and gl5 use the 3rd vowel--the words mean brain cells. gl4 = gl + chemistry labs use v**ls
gl 5 == add oxygen and more of
Yeah, Kate!
Line from Buffy the Vampire Slayer "Once More With Feeling" - "or we could just sit around and gl***"
its also a gimp/photoshop lighting effect
for the 6
Do you have it now, Merk?
kth an apple is a good start. do not proceed to an entire baked ham. but do get some nutrients into your system.
good news, Kate, I keep coming up for air, and reading the chat
lol bonkler I don't eat meat
then you should be safe. ;-)
gl 5/28 = slothful
Bye, now, for real!
lol bye scrabble
I am missing the gl 4,7 that comes just before the paste.
gl 4= hopefully, this will provide the ***wer
wrong one
thats a 6 babble, but ty lol
lol that's a 5 clue bab-rab
ugh yea, i meant 5... now i just feel silly :)
gl 4,7 I did not understand that glue, sorry.
just got it merk - all vowels
careful merk, you said a word...
lol right clue for the wrong question. bab-rab is a mind reader!
Oh, I found it. It came after the glue. There is a gl** of techno-toys available at Christmas.
Good grief. Hit me with a wet noodle and give me a cup of coffee.
Puts on my hairshirt and checks into isolation
You can get en from that as well, Merk.
Thanks for pointing it out, Kate. I'm sorry.
theres at least one after AND before the sticky stuff merk
but other than saying its all vowels i can't think up a clue for the one before..
I have my gl words now. Time to put my sticky nose back into the grid and keep my mouth shut.
lol
Before I do, I saw the photos of your daughters, Kate. They are adorable beyond words.
thanks merk :D
in5/12 and i think pl 6 please anyone - driving me crazy!!

Well done, ch!
YAY ch !!!!!!!!!!!
Well, the clue for wa 6,30; 6,33; and 7,48 would be nice
wa6/30 = one of the 4 things that holds up your roof minus the last letter... then plural.
wa 6/33 - what you put in cookies and 7/48 is plural
wa 6/33 is the name of a babbler wihtout the chen
wa6/33 and wa7/48 = put these in a salad with apples and mayo and raisins ... or eat them plain or with cinnamon
or put them in brownies ...MMMM....
no, not the wa6 but pecans or just leave them out and put more chocolate in.....
good morning everybody!
Yummy, I tasted that clue.
hello, Charm
Hey, Rabble!
hi charm!
ch1212!!
wa 6,30?
Merk, think of "Where's WA***?" and drop the last two letters. Now plural using two vowels and snake
wa + opp of truths?

Heading out ... happy hunting all!

I am missing the final wa 4,8 and 5,18.
I'm still lurking btw in case anyone was wondering
hey, kthdsn
Kate, will you lurk to the wa. I cannot find the final wa 4 and 5.
Oops, I meant the tw 4 and tw 5
I would think the na4/9 and 5/20 would be considered proper nouns....
I'm missing 8 ws so i can't help
I have the old English dividing things in tw*** and the first word of Tw** the Night Before Christmas. I need the tw 4 and 5 that come next.
tw 4 & 5 are swear words - quite rude about females
Merk change the final cons to the next one alphabetically
Merk - a very rude word and pl.
Ah, what does that mean?
ty

I don't know hurshy, things are such a mess, I have £9.5k debts to clear before I can go, he told me he can borrow £20k for me which would be enough, but I'll believe it when it's in my hand, i'm not sure I can trust him at all anymore
toronto
kate, i am so very sorry....

Hi Kate and Hurshy and all the others. I am reading along. Already suggested Kate give us her parents address, so we could at least send some clothes for the girls.
ok kate - just so you know we're there for you. and i'm glad to read from the chat log that you are feeling a little better today - you are clearly a very strong person to adapt to this change as quickly as you are.

yes, if kate should turn out to need some cash, what we were thinking is that her mom could set up a sort of trust fund at a bank, and we could have the name of the bank and the name of the account posted in babanon for people who want to help.
or go to usps for all rates inge
yep i understand lol
I'm really overwhelmed, I can't believe you all care that much
great idea
good setup, Hurshy. Kate let us know if Plan B is necessary, we are all ready to help
*hugs* for kate
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
those of us who are in a position to help/and or those of us who have been through what you've been through.... we're here...that's all there is to it..and you would be too when needed
yes mousey, financial chat is a bit over your head, isn't it?
I read today's log, Kate... and too, i am here for you too, you are spot on Dorens...
you know, i think it makes us ALL feel better, kate, not just you, knowing what kind of a community we have here - i've always thought of the world as so big and scary, and realizing that we babblers can be a global safety net is incredibly comforting to me.
it's true, hurshy. In the past few months, I have had such support. And, more importantly, encouragement!!!
absolutely rightm hurshy... at first, when i read the chat, I thought...who are these people and WHY do they do this instead of just playing the game....but I've come to realize it is a fantastic community and we can all draw on each other's strengths. We are some pretty good people... not just wordies, but caring, perceptive friends
yeper all though i know nothing about it
Mousey where do you live... how is the weather there?
well mousey, what would you like to chat about? do you enjoy harry potter?
wha? no 'sinny''? how are we to describe the moral weather in places like las vegas? No 'Partly Sinny, changing to mostly sinny as we head into the evening hours'
no idea
Takuma... you are a JeanPaul Belmondo fan?
cadiilac mi
hoping mousey has no idea what he wants to chat about, as opposed to having no idea where he lives, how the weather is, and whether he enjoys harry potter
lol hursh!
you like cadillacs?
is it cold there mousey? Here in New Jersey it feels like springtime
yep, Dorens - you?
that's just about mid lower Michigan, Hurshy.
had major crush on him when I was a teenager... to me, he was the epitome of cool...i'd have died for him
same thing here its like springtime!
You're all such wonderful friends, I'm so glad I have you
ohhhh, i thought the cadillac MI was a car and a suggested conversation topic, LOL
nope
when does your christmas vacation begin, mousey?
some day we will need you too, kate. and you'll be there
I will dorens
this friday it starts
ours already started :)
and you will see... that it will make you feel good to help others....and so it's almost sort of selfish.... we do this because we should, we can, and it is good for us as well s you....that is how the world should work
how old are you?
how old is who?
oh, he must mean hurshy
29, lol. my husband is a teacher, and i am a tutor, at a boarding school. our vacations are different because we have kids from asia and they need a lot of time to make it worth going home.
our vacation starts this friday too
but they have to go to class on saturday to make up for it, so don't be jealous.
schools in cadiilac STINKS
oooh... i want a vacation. :)
question.... isn't na5/20 a proper noun?
get one popy
yeah right... no chance of affording one for a while
I think that one's transitioned, dorens
kate--I just read yesterday
have you got any pets, mousey?
guess so, takuma
sort of like 'laser' no longer being an acronym
It sounds like today, you are stronger and are formulating aplan that feels right for you.
I have to go for a bit, talk in a while
I know there are many here who have been where you are, and that you are getting great advice
list could go on and on, takuma......stay strong, kate
a really playfull puppy named libby
yes, Kate, stay strong
I was just thinking the same thing as you, dorens, about the sa4/5
yep, pam you do know.... cool, isn't it?
oh, how fun! what breed of dog is she?
hm. i have to find that sa now
oh yes, entered that earlier... didn't think twice about it... that's how babble is.. i enter names frequently cause you never know
golden retreiver
it is, dorens!!!
nice mousey....golden retrievers do make terrific pets
she must be a very cute puppy then! does she do anything particularly funny?
i want a hamster
did someone mention sa words? I need the sa 6/21 and sa 5/18 ...since you are there already. Please
sorry inge. not really there yet .. don't have them but will look now
me and my sisters have had lots of hamsters - they are fun too. but the cages you can buy for them are not always strong, my dad built us some out of chicken wire that were much better.
sa 6/21...I sa**** to the united states of america flag...
thanls, geeny!
at meijers they have hamster for 7 bucks
thanks greeny
the 5/18 - if we said 'sol' instead of 'lol' in chats
ty GG
if you DO get a hamster, learn this from my sister's mistake: don't color it green with a marker, it's not healthy.
good morning everyone
hey everybody!! 76 left, and I want to get them done before I have to get ready for work
wait - that didn't sound right - I don't mean what we normally mean by 'SOL'
barbed wire kinda good
hi, metal. and a happy chanukah to you, too!
inge 5/18 looks like it should rhyme with what we do after a good joke
not BARBED wire, that would hurt! chicken wire. :)
sorry you have to work today, geeny.
zi 4/9?
I, personally, am afraid of hamsters
thanks hushy
wines, capng
thanks, dorens!
Hi all, gi5/18 please
what an odd looking word.
nevermind
I am sorry, but sort of happy...fighting with the hubby, and would love to get out of the house for a while...
oh, and thanks for the zi, too
oh takuma,. just saw your clue... good one, sol!
i don't get it !
sounds like a plan, geeny. What kind of work?
i had a dog, and i've had hamsters, now i have three cats and they are very funny, especially marty. he does so many goofy things.
I work as a server at the Olive Garden...part time
I have to do some work, too, but don't feel like it yet, so probably will have to go grocery shopping then work...
NM
when I wrote it, I failed to remember that 'SOL' is already an acronym, and not at all the one I intended, lol
Oh, at least you are not selling toys this time of year, LOL
well, i never heard of sol, so I liked it! (lol)
Hey...did anyone hear about 200 people getting sick from the Olive Garden? A friend called me to tell me that it was on the news (not locally thank god), but I missed it
I got the sa 5/18. had it all along Thanks
they would touch it 1 time and thay wouldnt go bye it again and then change it
I'm off - time to finish grading. good luck all
where, green?
two words to go si6,18, pls
peri, did you watch saturday night live in the old days? Gilda Radner as emily latella? she used to say never mind almost as much as you do.
yes, greeny I think it happened in Pittsburgh
you mean the barbed wire, mousey? lol
yep
What caused the sickness? Anyone know?
Yes I watched SNL in the old days. And Gilder Radner as Emily Latella was my favorite
ah HAH! that explains it.
hamsters are amazing acrobats - they can climb up the side of a cage, and then even hang on the roof by one paw.
its cool
good morning, everyone
yes, and the way they stuff their little cheeks is fun to watch too
Did you finish last night, Hurshy?
hi nan!
sengi
segye
my first hamster was white. i named her pip, because i was reading "great expectations" at the time, and the main character in that book is named pip, and it seemed like a good hamster name.
hi, cybernan
yes cybernan, i did!
When I was little, I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks, so my mom thought she would surprise me with a gerbil named Alvin...I hated that thing...I was so scared it would bite me and it looked just like a rat!
opps! You will find me in the penalty box!
can't see the gl4/6
vowel, peri
I'm baaaaack with a new icon... (I'm an equal opportunity holiday celebrant)
gerbils are not as cute as chipmunks...it's true
hi meta!
gl 4,6 has to do with nerves,, gl + two vowels
And I don't know how, but it always got out of its cage...and guess who had to look for it? (I think my sister played tricks on me)
love it metal.... as a chanukah person who has a beautiful christmas tree myself
166 words left.
we had gerbils too, and we would hold them up by their tails and watch them poop in mid-air - that was pretty funny.
te6,18 please
thanks Dorens
yw
now i feel sort of bad about that, though, as i think they must have been scared.
cool Dorens. I'm trying to figure out what to do for kwanzaa and chinese new year
scared enough to poop in mid air
te+ finger or toe ****
oh, mousey, have you been to this website: http://www.hampsterdance2.com/
Thanks!!! ruthy
How old are you mousey?
new icon won't load for me, metal, but I am sure it is lovely, and have figured it out from context, LOL
eat metal, eat. that's how you celebrate holidays
I've never had a hamster or gerbil, but I did have guinea pigs (cavies)
if i get one im naming it squirtle and no
4 gi's, 11 gl's, 5 gu's -- what am I missing, please?
it's a pillow which says: Dear Santa, I can explain
squirtle from pokemon?
you're a celebrant after my own heart Dorens
kwanzaa.... some good vegetable stew or something, and chinese new year is easy..... hollidays are all about good traditional foods... unfortunately kwanzaa is a made-up tradition that doesn't yet have real foods associated with it (like the latkes I'm making tonite!)
8yrs old and yes
oh, then I was wrong, LOLOLOL--thanks for the description!
Cyber, ithink you have them all
firs gu47 please
oh, you don't need the "2" in that website - last i knew someone had stolen the original website, but i guess hampton got it back. anyway, it's a fun hamster website. :)
stats are up Cybernan
or peanut stew, maybe, Dorens?
the jack is back!!!
missing one g according to my stats table
oooh, latkes, share a recipe?
lol, hurshy!
thanks, BJ
si 6,18 pls
back in the land of wind and coolth.
hi, brandyjack
HI BJ!
my guinea pigs were Heathcliff, Hildegarde and Heather
welcome back!
i love that little guy squirtle
can't call it cold because it isn't, but it's not sunny southern california....
hi BJ
Brandyjack -good to see you and thanks for the stats!!!!
8 years old...wow, and you aren't happy with a puppy? Are you working on the puzzle as well? Is anyone helping you?
yo bj
missing a 7 got en, in, gl & wa. What's the othrt?
ta7
Squirtle sure is cute...I didn't know kids still liked pokemon
ta7
He was a lovely orange and white fellow whose forelock fell over his eyes, the girls were an albino (Heather) and a tricolor black/orange/white (HIldegarde)
anyone have hints for the al words?
I have one of them... but that's all so far nmk
al-- to make your tires straight
or any "a" words ! pl
al5/14 is to put in rows
al- what e.t. was
metal...my recipe is basically my grandma's.... a bissel this, a bissel that!... nothing out of the ordinary, but i do know that you have to grate the potatoes by hand... makes a difference---
any chance of a clue for that?
guess I can no longer put off the food shopping... see you all later!!!!
im happy with a puppy i just want to trie a hamster
al + what you use tonic with
ta7 comes off ta4/5
later pam
I'll try it some time soon then. I love to experiment with recipes.
bye pam
yeah, all sorts of pets are great, and they are such different kinds of fun
puppy is much more fun mousey. hamsters are usually good for kids whose parents won't let them have a dog or cat
'bye pam, buy lots of goodies
i'll email you the recipe later if you like, metal
Do you think recipes like to experiment with people?
anyone have the si 6,18?
that'd be great Dorens, my email is on my profile
hamsters don't love you the way a dog or a cat would, but they are great in their own ways, and very entertaining to watch
curiosity always wants us to get what we don't have...mousey, have you told santa that you want a hamster?
that one actually had me really laughing out loud babblerabble
149 words left. Geez, this is going slowly.
i also want a monkey
I'm certain they do Babble. It's probably their way of helping the universe achieve balance
well, a monkey might be harder to get - there are laws about that sort of thing
and it's a case of "turn about's fair play"
A monkey, too? Like George?
any hints for the al 6 words?
lol
si 6/18 = to pass a car , you move into the passing ****
i mean *i* would love a pet elephant, but where would i put him??
al + *** and tonic+ pl
sure lets go with that
Thanks BR, Fireworks
hurshy. reading a good book right now called water for elephants
cingrats, bubba!
sorry bubba, i didn't really get it...
hey mousey...do you like cotton candy? Lots of it?
yaybubba!

congrats bubba!
al + alcoholic drink that you use with tonic + pl
missing a gu 4 -- monkeyed around the board twice and still no luck....
Hurshy, did you see the story about the elephant with diarrhea?
si 6,19 please
Have the gird, weapons and innards
nah, i've got ping pong and pinball and darts and stuff in the basement - no room left for elephant.
*abird
yes babble i did!!!!
oh my goodness...thanks babble, now I am picturing gallons of you know what...

ty
oh man! it's so hard to balance football and babble. lol I still have 130 left, and the packers are about to kickoff... lol
What do you want to be when you grow up Mousey? Maybe a veterinarian? Those are doctors that work with animals...then you would get to help all kinds of animals and get to see them first hand
yay pappa, we're packer fans too!!
really hursh? Awesome! :)
yayyyyy Bubba!
my dog just had a gallon of diarria
cyber, there are only 3 gu4's
there
a wrestler
s a gu5
my husband has lived all over the world but when he lived in the states, he lived in oconto, so...
rest are gu 5s
who is your favorite wrestler? John Cena, Kurt Angle?
bbl
ahhh... See, I've lived all over the country, and traveled all over the world, and I'm always amazed how many packer fans there are spread all over the place.
What exactly is a packer fan? That sounds a little suggestive pappa...
green... a packer fan? a fan of the Green Bay Packers. :)
I have returned after church, and will be making vegetable lasagna. Yummy. Mousey--I have had hamsters and rabbits for pets for many years.
ello sha
Fan of the Green Bay Packers.
hey scrabbler!
hi Scrabbler
did you hear the one about the guy who died and went to heaven, and st. peter was showing him around, and he sees a mansion covered in bears paraphernalia, and says, who lives there? and peter says, oh, that's mike ditka's place. and then he sees an even bigger mansion covered in packer stuff and he says, "oh, is that vince lombardi's house?" and peter says, "oh no, that's God's place!"
cena angle mysterio lesner stone cold and andre the gaint
HAHA!
Did I ever tell you that I am a bit naive when it comes to sports? And up to date news? And tv?
Personally I'm a Patriots fan.
loins fan
Hi Greengeeny--haven't seen you here in weeks. Hi metal. Congrats Bubba. hi hurshy, sha, ruthy, capng, pappa, Dorens, BR, Merk....I hope I didn't miss anyone.
lol mousey!
personally, I'm more of the opinion that the only reason for a football team to exist is to provide half-time so the band can march
Hi Scrabbler.
hi scrabbler. :)
(yep, a band member here0
I'm only half here cause I'm writing a paper due tomorrow.
Capng... I suppose its forgivable... no one's perfect.
It's too hard to just concentrate on the paper so I'm also Babbling here.
What is your paper about, capng?
MARCHING BAND!!
what do you mean hurshy
but of course!
My paper's about a character from a musical. It's for Musical Theatre and we have to sing a song with a partner.
sorry -- it's a ge 5 that I'm missing -- have one plural
your typo was amusing... but you probably don't know what the word you typed means. :)
Mousey--you are funny!
My eleven year old likes Payton Manning, so whatever team he is on is his fave, and my little one loves the cavs with Lebron(our home team) and somebody named Dirk Novitski(I think)
I was in Marching Band for 5 years. Played the flute and piccolo.
moousey... our teams are playing each other now... are you watching?
I can't help you out, capng--I was born without a music part of my brain.
Lol. It's okay. :)
Who's typo hurshy?
alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones here
mousey's typo.
and in concert band season I did those as well as xylophone and bells
Oh.
Woot saxaphones. I miss marching band.
oh well, the chat is so much fun today, I don't think that I will finish before I get ready for work...
8 years in band counting college, high school, junior high, middle school
wrestlers last name and i was talking to greeny
What time do you work, GG?
I do to
no no mousey, i meant when you said you were a loins fan, lol
Mousey...I am surprised that you know who Andre the Giant is...I used to like him when I was a kid!!
wow. Let's see *counts* 8 years band including elementary, middle, and high school.
ge 5? -- not the plural
Last al5 anyone?
i like andre the giant in "the princess bride" but never saw him outside of that movie.
i spelled it wrong didnt i?
I have to be in at 4 and it is 1 now...still have to press my clothes and eat and all of those wonderful things
Yup, mousey---a cute mistake.
yes, it is lions, and loins are... private parts... so, not a mix up you want to make!
I am a loins fan, too come to think of it...
i hate when i do that lol
Capng, in which part of the country do you live? (they have CVS pharmacies here where I live)
ge 5 = subtleties: ***nces
Lol.
Maybe I am coming around to the sports thing after all...
thanks BR
TY for the ge clue, BR.
il 4?
lol, it's ok mousey, you'll get better at spelling as you get older
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
il + 2 vowels
i take it i have become boring?
part of the hip bone, it's a plural without an s
il4= latin plural for part of pelvic bone called the ilium
nope
Do you like Hulk Hogan mousey?
ah, thought i put you to sleep.
Thanks cybernan and scrabbler.
im just tired
mmm, i should be tired too, since i stayed up til 4 AM finding these words - but i actually feel ok.
caving in -- have too much to do today
Bye nan.
Bye cybernan.
no, now that the subject has come up, it has made me feel tired after all. what'd you have to go and make me sleepy for, mousey? ;)
Fireworks for me. Got to finish writing cards. Hurshy, send me an e-mail (in my icon) If there is breaking news.
al5,14 anyone?
Ausgezeichnet Inge!!
i forgot him what about the wrestlemania 19 undertaker!!
what you do on the computer when you want to make the margins even
yeah inge1!
sure inge - although i'm sure it will take some time before kate finds out what her money sitch is for sure.
before I leave---Scrabbler, were you in Germany as an exchange student or what?
TY nan!
that was for al 5
al 5/14 = to put in 180 degree order
Undertaker is cool...I was a big Hulkster when I was little...
I studied German from 7th grade through12th, then another yr in college.
AAAh
I don't let my boys watch wrestling now though...they cuss a lot, and show a lot of skimpily clad women...you watch wrestling?
My 2 sisters studied German too, so we would speak German and annoy our parents.
the undertaker now is scary and dumb
sounds fun scrabbler!
is there an al 5/6 combo?
Isn't it the same one?
am raw i do
al + *** and tonic
no
You watch raw? Doesn't that come on too late for you?
I love languages.
al 5/14 & 6/24 == what you mix with tonic
am raw
Yes, nan----al + *** & tonic, then pl
yayyy inge
A.M. raw, i believe he is saying, green
My little sister, who is actually turning 30 in a couple of weeks, loves wrestling, and watches it all of the time...that is how I know some of what is going on
not on breaks from school
Oh...in the morning
yes i am
She loved somebody named Trish Stratus...do you know her? I saw her once on tv
yah i like melina and lita better
I don't know who they are, but I am sure they are good
OK, time to get my lasagna project going--BBL
So what else do you like besides wrestling, hamsters and monkeys?
Bye Scrabbler.
What do you want from santa this year?
lita was the 5 time womens champ
Oh, well then she definitely is good!
I bet mousey wants a brand new dish towel to help his Mom do the dishes.
it's too bad american gladiators isn't on anymore, maybe you would enjoy that show too mousey... i loved it
LOL babblerabble
OOh...that is what my boys are getting! Thanks for the idea!
121 words left.
Bah, I really need to concentrate on my paper now. Bye all.

bye bye capng!
:)
Is that what you want for christmas? What is a we cell?
good luck, Capng
'bye Cap
WWE is the former WWF
cell = cell phone presumably
hell in a cell
I am really showing how naive I am here...
its a match
mousey...you shouldn't be swearing
WWE because they lost a court battle over the rights to WWF, to the world wildlife foundation.
i think X would have been a better replacement letter than E though.
its not swearing
well, the wildlife foundation probably does more good than a wrestling foundation
nila
i may have mistranslated cell, then. are you talking about a video game, mousey?
ha... at least its not a word
no, it's a doctor on ER
Hi all.
hi mom
I love this chat!
I can't stop smiling
The E in WWE is for Entertainment
The E in WWE is for Entertainment
Hi Smooth_Pappa
i know, but E isn't a very intimidating letter, X for Xtreme would be so much scarier
its for action figures
sorry about the duplicates
I agree X would be better...
action figures, ahhhh, mystery solved.
cell a cage match between undertaker and randy orten?
A game for action figures, mousey? Is the game called hell in a cell?
yap
yep
Maybe they made it an E so they wouldn't have to change the logo, they could just add a line to the bottom of the F
lol
no
Is it an actual game, or is it a wrestling wring that you buy so the guys can wrestle in it?
ring*

Baby steps, Kate. Set easy, small goals.
I'm not sure how I'm going to get through work tomorrow
Just expect to feel lousy, but get your work done in spite of it.
it's best to get your mind off everything - focus on something you can control, like your work
I'm sorry for barging in; but a question Kate, why aren't you enraged, outraged or at least as mad as a little red hen?

when you first join, you have statistics available to you... under the grid, it shows the number of words in the puzzle for the day
You have to register as a Pro
the boxes below the grid show you how many words start with the letters in each box, and they keep a running total of how many you have of the ones available
o
after two weeks you don't have the stats any longer and must become Pro to them again.
i have 198 words left to find

hey stid, glad to hear it
Hi Stid, welcome back, missed you
Oh good! I have been wondering for days! I guess you have power now.
hi everyone. has anyone heard from AprilD? is she okay?
no -- we came to the library in town where wi-fi is working...
(((((Stid)))))==the photos look awful, how bad is it in your area?
en7/40 please?
I only have a little while left on my computer battery, trying to contact folks and let them know we are fine.
en6 = en + gl4, then add S for pl
hello faerie
gl4 please?
STID!
To overeat is to be a gl**ton
AprilD is logged on here, but I don't know if she is here.
Hi, stid, wrote you an email about our plan to help Kate. We are all behind the plan and waiting for developents over there. She is def. leaving him and coming to Toronto. We may hlep her on that
gl4/6 please? I think i have that one thanks scrabbler

aprilD loged in
Add sometimes vowel to the gl5 before it
ty scrabbler
poor stid, must be overwhelming. We can all wait for you to get power back
in 7/36?
Hi Kate, guess you are staying in the chat room where it is "warm"
in7= like what a uniformed officer wears, like a badge/decal sewn on, but change last vowel from A to E
yes inge it's my safe place atm
en 7,10 please
inge, just got your email! I think your idea is stellar, though we can't help much, would be happy to do something.
inge -- there is another chapter loaded, I wrote it at home and brought it with me to post...
en7,40 = pl of en6 = en = gl4
oh I see my earlier {{Pappa}} didn't post! sorry, the connection here is "iffy"
Not even a storm and lack of power will stop you, STid!=
Hi stid!
great, will fill you in on our plan per email. Dont want to hog the chat.
i dont understand?
*big grin* doing my best to stay "in the game" - though I am NOT starting today's grid!
lol inge I've been hogging it enough these past couple of days
lol no worries stid
Sorry, mousey, I meant en6 = en + gl4
At least we have heard from you, STid. Do you have a fireplace?
still dont understand?
pappa, just brought up your icon. is that you, *in action*?
sure is stid. :)
no fireplace or stove, but we have propane for cooking heat and a propane generator hard-wired to run the well and the essential house things.
Way cool, pappa!
we fire it up for an hour or two every four to six hours...
so you seem to be holding up pretty well, stid?
barf!
How are the boys? Going crazy, or doing OK?

I have no complaints...I cant have pressies I have too much already LOL
Scrabble i don't send cards
uh oh you've just reminded me what i meant to be doing today!
Scrabbler I have vetoed cards this year and given a wudge to charity instead... The cost of cards posting etc it does seem a waste
My mum was suprised at how much stuff i have. She forgets that i am a bargin hunter. My tv cabinet cost $10 from the opshop i volunteer at. My sterio cost $150 and my dvd player was free
Yes, that is what I was thinking--so much wasted paper and then the postage costs.
SPanner thats an awesome idea
Spanner are they your puppies in the picture
Herin yes they are my boys. The weimeraner is Blue and the lab is puddin. This photo is old though. Pud is 1 1/2 and |Blue is 2
It's just that I have received so many cards and I feel this obligation to send some out, but is it necessary?
Your boys are adorable, spanner.
Sorry bout the repeat question. Spanner they are way to friggen cute.
Scrabble i email cards to people that have email and special friends get hand written cards

Ok movie recomendation 'Open Season' see it its pee your pants funny
I had (pardon the spelling) pre anapyllactic (?) shock today and swelled up like a balloon. Got rushed into hospital in an ambulance, and pumped full of drugs. Once the swelling was under control, they sent me home cause ther were no beds, but I feel crap, my skin hurts, I am drugged to the eyeballs and I am swollen like a barage balloon. Roll on tomorrow
stick another letter on the end of the an before it, herin
ouch
and us brits think the nhs is bad!
And I am a moaning mare I apologise for letting off steam (hangs head in shame)
OH dear spanner thats not good at all i am glad your still alive though thats very bad

and use the t from the bottom row, not the one on the right ;-)
oh sh.. thats not at all good spanner, what set you off?
thats the bet one as i have that
Ric you must never go clubbing again you are far tooo useful to us
Not sure I had 2 days tests a few weeks ago that didnt show up anything we didnt know, and I only had a biscuit that was any different
lol i'm not very useful when i've been clubbing - my father found me in the kitchen last time but i have no idea how i got home, who i left with, or why i even left in the first place. everyone i've asked just says i disappeared
herin, the an 5/14 is the plural of the picnick pest + sometime vowel
oh bugger
Ric you sound like my youngest son, who has before now, woke me up tp hold his hair while he talked to the big white telephone
i don't go clubbing too often any more though, i can't afford to. these days i stick to the local club where its only £1.60 a pint :-)
i am the BOOGYMAN!!
rofl spanner
bugger im still lost
Besides ric, at your age you are not meant to be useful. You are meant to be an ornament( younger daughters saying)
nice, lol
can
herin your still on the last an?
someone please put me out of my misery and let me go to bed its 10 to one here and I need last se5.15

oh i so need a fish slap i was trying to put an i on it
thats 5.14 cant even see my numbers now!
She reakons you cant do both, you can either be one or the other. Useful things are never beautiful(can openers) and beautiful things are never useful (stilletoes)
True spanner. I love my shoes but cant were them
ok - take the an4,4 before it and stick another letter on the end. its a higher scoring 5 so it must be a good value letter...
Nor me My wellies are great, so are my dockers, but they dont go with an evening gown...
oh you got it?
i have it but i couldn't do it. THanks for your patience
hehe
pleeeease se5.14
Spanner you sound like me. I have about 12 pairs of shoes i got given i just cant wear some of them cause of my stupid knee
I dont have the se sorry
now the se5 - think of that drink again, the *** and tonic, but swap shift the letters
I only own 6 pairs of shoes ond 1 of those is scarily impractical
Thank oyu ric
'only' 6? i have a single pair and always have
Spanner. i have 3 pairs of comfy shoes and im asking for new boots for chrissy
Your a guy enough said
Many thanks TR got - you saved my life! I will be alseep in 5 minutes! Goodnight all
Yer Ric your male
hehe
bye dee
My partner has 2 pairs and a pair of goo dress shoes
by dee
Night dee
someone once told me the first part of you a woman notices is your shoes - thats not much good given the shifts i do at work!
What do you do ric?
My sian told me it was eyes, my kerry said it was his bum, I am a simple girl...I go for a good sense of humour and a bulging....wallet
lol spanner
i'm a checkout op by contract, but right now i'm one of only 2 guys trained for trolleys mon-fri so i keep getting long shifts lugging trolleys about. you can imagine what that does to a pair of shoes...
You work central to town or off shore
Um steelcap boots ric?
i work for morrisons in a small town
we don't get issued with steel caps herin - our health and safety policy is dated and morrisons simply don't care
Our morrisons is out off town (offshore) and I always feel sorry for the trolley guy He is always drenched
I have heard that before,
i actually dropped a rather large and heavy steel waste bin on my foot the other week and literally crushed a toe - i'm not even aloud to put it in the accident book and management couldn't understand why not physically being able to put my shoes on meant i couldn't go to work the next day
allowed*
id still wear caps. i had a pallet of 800 bottles of water land on my toe and i was greatful for caps
I have also heard that if you try to sue them they just pay out just to keep you quiet. Get it in the accident book Ric...I could lead to long standing problems...
I used to do security hence the caps thou not allowed. Ric stuff them its your health not theirs accident book it ric
not quite spanner - if you sue them it goes down that you caused a loss of profit, and thats then taken out of your profit share for the year thus really you end up shooting yourself in the foot. great policies huh?
Cause I could encourage you to sue them, just cause i dont work and have nothing better to do with my time....LOL (No Im not a solicitor)
though i've only been there 2 years so don't get a profit share anywayu
You cant afford to shoot yourself in a crushed foot. The payout for you is probably worth more than your profit share
OHS is serious and not something to mess with. I thought by law they had to help you med wise
If life is uncomfortable then you can nab the payout and get another job...
i'd love to herin but i can't afford to leave until i have another job settled, and the personel manager is physically refusing to have it logged. she hides behind dated policies that state unless you immediately report it to management and take a first aider with you, it doesn't get logged. whats more i know from previous cases that management will simply deny all knowledge of any accident
Herin we are a backward country in many ways
Oh ok. Still steel caps arent that expensive. Saved my toes a few times
And no i have never booted anyone
Get a machine and record a conversation with her and have a witness present...
i've had a shelf fall on my head before and after the deputy store manager 'balanced' it back up he denied i'd even told him about it
Ric you are just not tricky enough ...
hehe
to be fair i do tend to complain more than i take action, but what the hell
oh well rick someone will get badly hurt hopefully not you and then they will get in big poo
I hate big business taking advantage of 'the little people'
I wasn't strong enough to sue my last employer but they got recently screwed 5 grand for sexual harasment and i laughed a lot
I know lets ALL botcott morrisons....
yay, lol
*boycott*
i've actually thought on numerous occasions of setting up a 'less reasons' site where morrisons employees can post freely and openly about there experiences, thus causing a huge blow to the companies reputation. unfortunately though i'm yet to find either an isp or 3rd part host that will allow for such content...
i'm beginning to think there's no legal implimentation of freedom of speech on the internet today
I was off sick after sustained bullying from my boss bought on a complete mental breakdown and I then got sacked!!!! I too was far too ill to sue them then, but I am seriously considering it now. i maynot go through with it, but I love the idea of him lying awake at night sweating, and worryiong himself sick
YEp spanner my boss broke my brain. I used to work as a security guard in the court rooms and i went la la.
Hell we live in Herr Blairs Britain Ric, theres no freedom of speech full stop LOL
HI all, back to finish, both la5/18 please
Its kinda nice in lala land on the right drugs LOL
lol spanner
i'd join you but with a wussy needle phobia drugs can't touch me... which is probably a good thing back in reality land
drugs bad. i hate taking them. i have put on weight and im still a little nuts
just need help with first la5/18 please
you got the grass one peri
lol peri ;-) now say it out loud ;-) ;-)

I don't understand why little kids hate naptime. Naptime is awesome.
Cap - Yes, you should definitely go to bed. Good luck in the exam!
i'd rather play quietly in the shade
upside down 7 for the letter
Thanks Jacula.
Okay, aknitter. So long as you're getting some fresh air.
oops, rockin, not actually an anagram
Mind you, kiss-chase was fun, unless you got caught by the boy you didn't want to be caught by!
ur + 3rd vowel + 1st vowel, upside down 7
The lad with the snotty nose, BO and warty hands.:(
kiss- chase? never played that one
may i have a clue for gl5/18 please?
Having said that, you could run like the wind if he was nearing you. If the lad you liked was nearing you, you could 'trip over' ever so accidentally and he'd be obliged to catch you. :)
jac you little devil

Oh AK, you don't know what you missed in childhood!

gl + first vowel, + last letter and sometimes vowel
nm i got it! be back in five
Hi and well done, lbd.
y/w rockingg.
How ya doing jac?
In life or on Babble, lbd? In life - almost shaken off the horrible cold/flu bug after 4 weeks, except for a cough. Xmas is almost all wrapped up (except for wrapping the pressies, which I will do later). In Babble - finished earlier this UK evening whilst watching a drama with Julie Walters and Rupert Grint (red head from Harry Potter films) in it.
Oh, and the big scab on my right knee, from when I took a tumble on my front drive, is itching like hell but not at the 'picking' stage. LOL. How are you, lbd?
I've not had the flu (knock on wood) and i don't have any scabs on my knees. most of my pressies are wrapped except for the ones dearest mate bought today.
en 6/18 please?
en+ wagging part of dog
en+ what dogs wag
hi dawg
thanks
lbd - I've sat my own dearest mate down tonight and asked who he still has to buy for. I've said I will sort those 3 out. That'll stop his 'I hate Xmas shopping' grumping... hopefully. He will still be wearing his black Santa 'Bah Humbug!' hat to work this week though, as he has done since I met him and bought it for him. (He's a truck driver, btw.)
He did most of his Christmas shopping on-line this year, and so hasn't been as bad as in the past. However, you can't always sort every present out on-line. LOL
83 words left.
Want clues, Cap?
I'm too tired to think straight to get the rest of them. I'm off to bed. Night all!! Happy Babbling!!
Okay, sleep well. And do well later!
Hi TO! I'm not sure My dearest has bought anything else, we're planning on spoiling our grandson to all ends! tickle me elmo and stuffed reindeer...good grief! and the clothes and books!
Night Capn, sleep well
Doing well in your finals is far more important than finishing the grid. Get some rest.
this is my first time playing and need 83 words yet help
hello babblers!
hey, fran
hi jac!
chris70 - you will have to be a little more specific about what words you need.
welcome chris--just holler
Hi Fran.
Hi Frannie! Chris which clues do you need?
hello fran
hi TnC! hi nonnie!
hi lbd!
chris if you click down at the bottom and open lickety's babble clues you can figure out by points and number of letters what you are missing and let us know so we can give you clues
Hi TNC Hi Nonnie!
hi lbd
i am so confused i cant even figure out ur clues i am lost but this game is addicting
hi nat!
hey fran! whre've you been?
we're watching a charlie brown christmas
well the first number is how many letters, and the second is how many points the word is worth
hi!
Chris, we all solve the puzzle differently, but i think most of us use Lickety's list. you can find it at the bottom of the page. click on it and then fill in the words you've already found.
chris, there are two links that will help you out, "angelsong's babble page" and "lickety's babble clues"
chris70 - go to angelsong's page for clarification. Last link in last column of sites down on the bottom left of this page.
te6/18 please??
I just changed my icon
chris--at lickety's you can also print out a list of the words...I have found this to be real helpful, along with the wonderful clues given here
Hi erda, te+ what the hammer hits...not your thumb!
te + toe ****
or finger ****
ai 4,4
Thank you NatLT !!!!!
nice pic TnC, is this the latest of the little scamps?
welcome erda!
TY lbd too -- and hi
lbd - some of us use BJ's list. As that list can't be done at the moment, we've gone back to the old way of doing things. That is NOT a swipe a Lickety's list, which, of course, I use at times. I appreciate both lists when I'm in a hurry.
hi erda!
chris - what is does outside minus the r
ai+ Nova Scotia or what you breathe + single hump letter
how are you fran?
hi TO!
has anyone heard from stid?
Hiya Fran!
I haven't seen stid here today
Jac, you are so right about BJ's list I too use it. but not on week-ends...isn't that weird! lol
I bet her power's out, TO - I havn't heard from her
TO - why the query about stid? Has there been a problem? Not been around at night myself lately.
haven't heard from stid. but it may be a while if she's one of the million who lost power
al5/14 thanks everyone
the whole pac nw has been having awful weather and power outages, jac
Stid was in briefly this afternoon
jacs, the pacific northwest has been rocked by storms
jac, they had some bad storms come through her area in the last week
al5/14 - to line upstraight.
al+ what you make martini's with...the main ingredient
al + a type of alcohol, usually with tonic
TO - Oh dear! I see why you've been worried then.
I just checker her profile - she says that she will be without power for at least three days. she posted that today from thelibrary
hi flosey! that's good to know about stid...did she say how they fared in the storm?
didn't get a chance to talk to her she was rushing - power failure, using someone else's computer
Ah, that al5/14!
How about wa6/30 -- my brain just shut down, irrevocably....
winter storms are the worst!
this just in from stid...our family is fine, our home is without power but undamaged. Many people were not so lucky. Thanks for thinking of us. We came to the library today to check email and upload another chapter... ;-)
A type of nu4/5 singular, Erda.
wa+ not the truth erda
Date & wa**** cake?
erda, wa6/30 is wa + "fibs"
Bless her heart - always thinking of others

add on the gl7 minus a vowel
Okay, not related to Babble, but we have a mystery black tee-shirt in our clean laundry to be handed out... it's not mine, not Other Half's, not son's, not daughter's, not Other Half's daughter's and not my daughter's boyfriend's. All laundry is done here at home. So, where did it come from and to whom does it belong?
perhpas all those missing socks?
Is it, I ask myself, the washing machine weaver's? Made from all the missing black socks??
jac, obviously some stranger knew how much you loved doing laundry and dropped it off for you.
hmmmm, maybe someone borrowed a shirt from someone else? not so unusual with teens.
i am still lost even the clue page is confusing me lol
it will probably disappear just as mysteriously
TO - we think alike!
don't worry chris, it will get easier.
Fran - I bet it belongs to Haz! LOL
yes jac, hasn't she been threatening to send you her ironing by post?
or the underweare gnomes?
Fran - No! The other way around. LOL
i like the unpaired socks theory.
And she's seen a photo of my ironing pile!
she must have beat you to it!
Fran - there are websites dedicated to those lonely socks.
there's is probably a website for anything you can imagine these days.
they are probably with all the lost buttons
thank i am trying
theFiz said she was starting a project with lonely socks, but it's been stalled.
keep asking, chris.
There is also a website on which a very strange man exhibits (in glass jars on shelves) his lifelong collection of navel fluff (blue, mostly). He also has one or two other jars of other people's navel fluff. Dunno if it's famous people's navel fluff or what. I just ask myself one question... WHY??
il 4/7 il 4/4
oh that's right fiz was making hand puppets with lonely socks.
ig4/7 is another way to spell eskimo ice house
il4.7 sounds like the russian guy from Man from UNCLE. il+ 3rd vowel + first vowel
i have done abominably wih the t words tonight...
il4/4 is il + two vowels, plural of the upper part of the hip bone
No il4/7. ig4/7 sounds like Eskimo home.
the t's were maddening TO
(majik fingers strike again...4.4 not 4.7)
i think i will wash my hair then comeback to finish. see you later!
later TO!
later TO
got il not ig
Don't forget to ri5/10 it, TO!
i know what ur saying but i must not b spelling right
ig4.7 i+ another word for paste, but only use first three letters
chris, ig4/7 is ig + *o* ferigno or *o* diamond phillips
ig word - have you heard of gl* wine?
yeah got it thanks
It's the German/Belgian, Lord knows where else version of mulled wine. (Hot wine, stirrup cup here in UK)
it's a stupid way to spell
i tried then when i visited friends in Germany jac
Did you like it, Fran?
tried *that
no, but i didn't like the sweet wine in Italy either
in 5, 6 , and 7 boy i really need babble for dummies
in 7 is like a patch on military uniforms minus the a
no you don't Chris, you're doing just fine.
chris, in7 is the singular of the badges and ribbons that military personnel wear...instead of ending with ia it ends with a different vowel
5 and 6 in + a vase you keep ashes in, and the plural
in5/12 is in + an earthenware vase
in+ what you put ashes in then plural for the 6
you will learn some words that show up in puzzles a lot
lol, nat, you are one step ahead of me today! :-)
I do mulled wine with lots of orange & lemon slices in it. My poor neighbour from over the road had to be helped home after trying it one year and drinking it like pop! My 2 kids tried to steer her straight over the road to her own house... but she wanted (she was 70 then) to serenade the whole road... they tried in vain to 'shush!' her but did at least manage to hold her up (one on either side) from falling in the gutter. To say they were not best pleased with me when they got back from getting her safely home and up to bed, is an understatement. Hey! She still cites that night as one of her most fun nights.
it's funny that we used the same clues
still stuck on 7 got other 2 thanks
Fran - I like a dryer than dry wine myself!
must be good then jac! what a funny story!
in7, in + **** of the times + a vowel
in + stop ****, or yeild **** + the second vowel
in+ what you do at the bottom of your check with your name, add 2nd vowel after
you beat me that time fran
got it thanks
Fran - use a Merlot or a Cabernet Sauvignon to add the fruit and spices to and DO NOT BOIL it. You'll enjoy it then.
i need all the e's
i'll have to try it some time jac, i'd rather fly to England and have you make it though!
eg+3rd vowel + plural letter
en+pig out, en7 is plural
en + what a dog wags for the en6/18
et + first two letters of my name
and the plural
Fran - you do that some time!
et + last vowel= 3rd vowel
chris, remember that et4/4, it's the word that appears most frequently in the grids.
first three letters of the Queen's language plus plural letter
alas jac, it may be years and years before i actually can, but don't worry, i'll look you up!
et + last vowel + 3rd vowel sorry
and the plural
Fran - in the meantime, add cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, ground cloves, mace, 'allspice' if you can get it and a pinch of ground chilli.
got all them but the pig out one
Only a pinch or so of each spice, according to taste.
that sounds better than gl* wine for sure
chris, en + ****ton for punishment
(which is what we all are for coming back here again and again!)
en + first three letters of the word for paste, + cross letter (used twice in the word letter)
and then the plural
chris, there are a lot of great cluers here. good luck. i'm going off line to prepare for the morrow. see you later everyone
night lbd
ya i put what your saying in but i must be spelling wrong
thank u bye
Fran - anytime you want to contact me for real, send me a message through BabAnons message boards and I will reply. Do that also, if you want to see my written (finally! YAhoo!) report on our Crete holiday. You'll need to send me your snail mail address through private e-mail for that though.
night lbd!!
okay jac.
The Yahoo! was just me rejoicing and has nothing to do with the internet site of same name.
lol, i just figured that out jac!
en (starting from the top) + the 3 point tile, + upside down 7, + last vowel, + cross letter
'Night, lbd.
hey everyone
chris, i don't want to inundate you with hints and tips, but if you learn how the scoring works that will really help in finding the words also. sometimes only certain combinations will work and that's how we find words.
hi helen!
hello helen
hey fran, nonnie
ok how do i learn scoring also thta word still is not working for me
A few Babblers will have already received, or won't be long in receiving, my Cretan holiday report. It's full of the most awful grammatical gaffes, as was done in a hurry in the end over 2 sleepless nights. I've read it again at some sort of leisure tonight and proofed it properly. LOL.
jacula - i have a question for a brit
yay! alan is back!
Hell! You're here!
Go ahead, Hell...
scoring, add up the numbers on the tiles, if it's a 5 letter word, it is X's 2, 6= X's 3, 7= X's 4, and so on
i was shopping & i saw plum pudding (which doesn't even have plums, i learned), i never had any, so i wanted to try it
chris, use help or angelsong's page for scoring help
Ah, plm pudding.
hola
It did have plums once, Hell.
hi dragan
but in the directions it said , heat, blah, blah.... & cover with a brandied hard sauce -what is hard sauce? no one at the jewel (a huge national supermarket chain) seemed to know
chris are you taking the e out of the paste word??
lol fran - just saw your remark
yep and still not workin
hello dragan
:-)
hi dragan
Why is Plum Pudding called Plum Pudding when there are no plums in it? In the 17th century, plums referred to raisins or other fruits. Plumb is another spelling of plum. Prune is actually derived from the same word as plum - the Latin word was pruna, which changed in the Germanic languages into pluma. But the terms were quite confused in the 16th and 17th centuries and people talked about growing prunes in their garden.
what are you typing that isn't working
do u want me say the word
as long as it isn't in the grid as a real word it is ok
jacula - yeah - i got all that from the box - but my question is: what is this 'hard sauce' they are talking about?
Christmas Plum Pudding Makes 2 x 2 pint basins or 4 x 1pint basin. 450g (1 lb) Soft Brown Sugar 450g (1 lb) Currants 225g (8oz) Shredded Suet 225g (8oz) Breadcrumbs 225g (8oz) Sultanas 225g (8oz) Raisins 285ml (10 fl oz) Stout 110g (4oz) Self Raising Flour 110g (4oz)Glace Cherries 55g (2oz) Candied Peel 55g (2oz) almonds, chopped 4 Eggs medium size 1 Apple 1 Lemon (grated rind) 1 Orange (grated rind) 4 tbsp Rum or Brandy 1 tsp Mixed Spice ½ tsp Nutmeg ¼ tsp Cinnamon Place the suet, flour, breadcrumbs, spices and sugar in bowl and mix thoroughly. Add the dried fruit, peel and almonds and mix thoroughly. Mix in the peeled, cored and chopped apple and grated orange and lemon rinds. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, mix in rum and stout. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients - stir, very thoroughly (Traditionally a wish is made whilst stirring). Pudding should have a "dropping" consistency (if not add a little more stout if needed). Leave overnight to allow the dried fruit to plump. The following day grease the basins and tightly pack the mixture in them filling to the top. Cover each basin with a square of greaseproof paper and a square of cloth or muslin. Tie with string then tie the corners of the cloth together on top. Steam puddings for 8 hours, ensuring that the water does not evaporate, topping up with boiling water as needed. When cooked, allow to cool, remove paper and cloths and replace with a fresh. Store in a cool, dry place. Steam for 2 hours and serve with warmed flaming brandy or rum poured over.
hard sauce is a caramel sauce
the hard sauce my grandmother used to make was for mince pie and it had rum in it. yummy
caramel sauce has no place in the same space as plum pudding!
en + 3 tile +1 tile + last vowel + en and have tried all that but another 1 tile in frony of last en
uh, yeah, right jac - start holding your breath ---- now! tx nat!
tried both ways
take out the un, and put in a t
It may mean arrowroot sauce (a white sauce) made with a spirit such as rum, brandy or whisky).
don't use the second en at all
i believe hard sauce is like icing \
no it was a sugar sweet sauce
sorry that should have said take out the en and put in a t
sounds lik this recipe http://southernfood.about.com/od/desse rtsaucerecipes/r/bl30120p.htm
I always used to make the har licquor arrowroot sauce before I met my new partner who just likes plain custard on his puddings.
Seee eagle crashing.
.
.
.
rut-roh - a differnce of opinion here on hard sauce - on the box it says: "serve your heated plum pudding with warm crosse & blackwell brandied hard sauce"
down, down - Status Quo track, lol.
Oh, I've been missing so much fun, I see! And now I have to leave again.
i give up time for bed thank u for all your help ill be back another day to try again thank you all very much
bye jill
well, welcome to the game, see you soon chris
bye chris!
bye jili
hey jilli!
Hey -- hard sauce (not knowing what's been said before -- masses of butter, lots of icing sugar, lots of brandy, beaten a lot -- mmmm
72 words left i guess that is not bad for a first time
not bad at all, this was a hard grid
not bad at all chris
aha jili! anything else besides butter, sugar & brandy?
there we go again fran
what jilli said is what all the googled recipes are saying
jilii - that sounds like brany butter!
like I said, caramel, just add brandy
Now, I thought this was a fun grid -- able to get 125 words before using Lickety -- most unusual for me.
yes nat, great minds...
sounds like my grandmother's but i thot she put rum in it, maybe not we are really taxing my memory!! lol
wa 6/30 please?
Fran - I've looked at the C&B site - all they are trying to sell you at $4 a small pot ids white arrowroot sauce with brandy or else brandy butter. Either are very eassy to make at home.
fran - ah yes, the google option - my mind is just not working right - didn't even occur to me to google it! tx
no, helen, just mix it all up together, no cooking, stick in on a plate attractively, chill, and serve. Can also be be frozen.
Nonnie - I have one thign to say to you....NUTS1
wa+ not truth
nonnie, wa + "fibs"
ty fran! :o)
yw nonnie
haha, jac, i have that wa one!
oops and bookwomen too--missed that, sorry
Who's nicked my spell it right keys??
Prm me if I sound a bit wacky but I've been polishing silver
jac, i just googled "hard sauce" and came up with several recipes and the common thread is sugar and some kind of liquor, probably where the "hard" comes from
breathing in metal cleaner fumes jilli? :-)
and sipping vodka to make it less painful
hi all - help with the last word please - it drove me crazy last night. te6/18
no, jac, I use Twinkle
crone, te + toe****
te + na 4/4 hit with hammer
or te + what you hit with a hammer
can't help -- 86 to go, haven't got to the t lot yet
many thanks fran
& book & jilli
yw crone, fireworks?
tx for all the hard sauce clarifications
tethumb?
funny jilli!
yep - i always manage to get down to something simple & get brain freeze. here to clue for while
yay crone!!!!
jilli - you will get the Cretan hol thing snail mail when we get 2 new print cartridges. I don't normally swear a lot, but this effin printer, spawn of Satan that it is, gobbled up 21.99 british pounds' worth of black innk cartridge and 26.99 british pounds worth of colour carrtridge when it decided it would sneakily change from 'fastdraft' to 'everyday' mode when printing out the Xmas letters and holiday report. That's nearly £50 of ink in one day!
YAY crone!!!
fran you're doing the mentally unstable exclamation marks again!!!!!!
Any more than 2 !!'s indicates someone on the brink....
LOL
EEEECCCCHHHH Jac!!!! Yikes!! Can you sue somebody??? (Litiginous thought, not Christmassy at all)
six means a home foe the emotionally estranged
*for
hmm, i thought i was just being excited for crone. :-)
Oh, and jilli - it used half a pack of paper up in what it was trashing!
GAWD, jac
sure fran - but we all know what excitement leads to....
yikes jac
Fran -- which warm place is that? Mercury?
jilli, it's the surface of the sun
if noone needs anything i'm off 'til the flip
see you later crone, i'll try not to get too excited at your return. ;-)
I need lots but have to go eat, dammit -- bfn, crone
Yes, my Xmas greetings cost me dear! In my experience as a writer (once, in the mists of time) big printing is not something dopmestic printers like. Ask them to do more than 5 and they quiver. Ask them to do two-sided printing and they lose it entirely. Do these printers have NO work ethic?????????
fran, had some idea, but knowing you it might have been the crater of Mauna Loa or something
Um Jac, my old HP printer seems to be able to handle those things
should have thought of that jilli.
Tip - If you want to print on the other side of a page, you will have to do itv. carefully one at a time.
Hours of work!
*F*I*R*E*W*O*R*K*S*
yay nonnie!!!
oops, there i go again
Jilli - I have an HP printer and have had that and arious makes before. Have you ever asked yours to do 15, 25, 100 or more?
YAY and HEY Nonnie nonnie no!
thank you fran
ty jill
Well, no, I don't think so, Jac *bows head*
jac, it probably would have been better to go to a printing shop, after all that trouble
In my expericence, first side of pages is fine. "nd side, however, in 2-sided printing, even if left to cool down for 8 hours, is still a lottery. Best done one page at a time.
Nonnie, that
that's a very funny icon!
Fran! *makes sign of cross* I used to work for a printer.
hit the wrong key
i was going to mention it earlier too nonnie, cute alligator.
not like a big printing company, but a kinko's or mail-it center or something, anything like that in your neighborhood?
Just pondering whether I should switch webcam on and say GRRRRR! For the in the face pic. LOL.
Now I must go and heat supper -- sorry to leave now and sorry to leave this grid I was enjoying -- hope to see y'all in an hour or so
ty both--I thought he he looked nice and festive for Christmas.
later jilli!
and maybe while supper heats in the microwave :)
that would be appropriate too jac.
bye jill
Fran - most of my cousins own printing businesses.
Here and in Canada!
not that I'm the best clue giver but does anyone need help before I sign off?
oh cool, then you could have gotten a deal on making copies of your newsletter.
Oh, jilli! Don't do that microwave supper thing on me again! How could you?
i suppose it's too late now that your printer ate all the paper and drank all the ink!
Fran? Not likely! I like to do things for myself, even if it does cost me! I've had enough of all those males.
lol, why did i know you'd say that?
Yes, I know they were only trying to protect me...
Aw, that'a life! as the song goes.
thanks for reminding me i didn't have my music on jac!
well, I'm off to bed. Take care all and see you tomorrow.
night nonnie!
FraN - seriously, if you want to sent me your snail mail via e-mail, via BabAnon initially...
i have your email address jac, when i check my mail later i'll send you my snail mail address.
Fran - I have no music on either. On purpose though. If I had it on I'd be up all night and posting stupid posts.
okay, Fran.
jac, i spent almost two days ripping CDs to my iTunes library, i have all my favorite music at my fingertips now
instead of the huge cases that my husband takes to his gigs.
right now Chaka Khan is singing "Ain't Nobody" my favorite karaoke tune.
Fran - my Other Half did the same for his daughter on the i-pod he's just bought for her for her 12th birthday. However, when he tried to delete all the cds from his laptop to speed it up to download more... it was all deleted from her i-pod. That cann'yt be right! What has he done wrong? Advice from anyone more expert, please?
just a quickie -- had a short email from stid, sent from their public library -- they're ok
that's good to know jilli, i think she put a message in her profile also
jac, that's because the two libraries are synced
don't know how to fix it though, i don't have an i-pod, just iTunes on my computer.
Is there no way around it, Fran? Does your computer have to be silted up for your i-pod?
not sure jac, let me see what i can find out.
I have i-tunes, that my son put on for me, hate it! Just like he hat4es the windows media player I prefer.
Okay, Fran. ANy info would be welcome.
i imagine if you unplug the ipod from the computer you can then delete the files from the computer without impacting the ipod
but if you plug the ipod in again, it'll probably mess things up
jac, do you read manuals? they have them online in PDF form at the Apple site.
hi leigh
You can set itunes to sync to your ipod automatically or manually. If it's set up to sync automatically, it will copy whatever you've done on itunes to the ipod - add, delete, whatever.
Thanks for the info, folks. Not got an i-pod myself but will save all of your advice for my Other Half.
jac, there is also a discussion board at Apple where he can submit the question and get answers from experts.
i have a feeling it has to tie in with the iTunes library
Automatic synching is the factory preset default, so that's likely what happened.
Thank you all for the help.
hello
hi infernal
I saw stid this morning and there on batter power but they are fine
opps battery power
i think she put something in her profile too infernal
Jac you cant delet stuff of laptop when uploading cd to ipod i don't know why but the bloody thing does delete off your ipod to. It did the same to me. Same as you cant trasfer pod to laptop it only goes one way which is a pain. Ta fran
I also found that you have to upload cd stuff first then when thats done put it on the ipod. It s a slow and irritating process..
The tracks I myself am keen to keep to hand on computer are not many... Mambo No.5, for if I feel like dancing. Lyn Skyn's Freebird, should I be dying or 'coming'. Or should that be coming or going? LOL. Fleetwood's Mac's, 'Albatross' and vocal version of 'Oh Well!'. And, if pushed to make it tight, re the last songs.. Three Degrees' 'When Will I See You Again?' and Lauden Wainwright IIIrd's 'Dead Skunk'.
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
