thanks. I did that to be sure he understood the process, but the dumb calculator made the actual work answers screwy. He was graphing quadratics, and the numbers on either side of the vertex are supposed to be the same as long as they are equidistant... actually, THAT concept was really hard for him!

actually, for this kid carlee the calculator is useful during school time. He has waivers for handwriting, and the calculator really does make it better/faster.

Carlee, there's a similar movement here in the US. I teach college math, but how do you teach long division of polynomials when the students can't do long division of integers?

I have a cousin teaching in Kingston, Ontario, working her butt off and has been for about 5 or 6 years. She's making in the 40's and loves what she does. No six figures there or anywhere near her.
my father and my stepmother and my aunt..retired making close to 200/ year and pete...your cousin will be in next 6 years...the board is striving to reach a 70% litteray rate by grade 10 across the province..now..would anyone buy a car that only starts 70% of the time....but its ok if only 70% of kids in next 5 years reaches that rate....right now I believe is about 65%
and in the latest contract negotiation with provincial gov't they seeing a raise...that those that have been teaching about as long as ur cousin... will be making very high 60's 70's in next 5 years...

lol...my daughter is a 1st degree black belt (10yrs old), competitive dancer, took up soccer this past winter AND just started softball for first time & is excellant at it. i have my hands full w/her

well, i could... but since it's a frankenstein's monster of a box anyway, it'd be more sense to just go buy a new computer entirely than try to put a newer OS on such a slow/cobbled together box. and since this one still (mostly) works, i can't justify to myself spending several hundred dollars on a new one
she's so cool though. it's neat the way they want to stuff, but it's so much sometimes.
and jes, if you get a new one now it will have (gasp, shudder) Vista
she cut way back on dance this year so she could try soccer & softball. both, which she loves & she wants to get back into the dance bigtime next year
it keeps them safe and out of trouble, gives them the exercise they need, helps them make friends...no real down side
when she was 7 she was chosen to be on the United States Dance Team. Danced at Radio City, a Knicks game, & on Fox Sunday Family & Friends show...?!?!?!...she's too anal for me sometimes, lol..but it was all so cool..she amazes me.
i think if/when i get a new one, it'll be by way of asking a couple computer geek friends of mine to build/buy one for me... they'll know to avoid things like vista ;)
I wish they'd just cancel the thing -- I'm happy with XP Home 2
that's my whole goal though Special...keep the kids involved & out of trouble. the boy is 13 & into computers, like his dad

yeah..my son is not as athletic as his older sister. We found his nitch w/ bowling though, and he is very smart and into computers and science stuff
