The vet put him on a special dry diabetic diet.
Plus, he's notorious for not eating on demand.

Well, we used part of husband's birthday present from his sister to go to a production of Pygmalion at the Grand Opera House in Belfast on Saturday. The play was well done, but I still hate the play! I studied it for O-level and didn't like it then.....

The Opera House is lovely - dating back to 1800's. They've just built a brand new extension which is ultra-modern and have made no attempt to disguise the fact.

So, the new facilities are great, but I'm not convinced that sticking a modern box beside an ornate building is a good idea.

We're just about to have a new extension of the Town Hall completed in Ballymena. It's very modern but the architects have managed to marry the buildings with similar use of materials, though a lot more glass. It's much more pleasing to the eye.
I can't think of an example of old and new in one building working. However old sitting beside new separately can be very striking.

The only one I think almost works is the Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery
The old Town Hall has copper domes, now blue/green with age. The glass used in the new building has the same blue/green shade and it just looks right.

Yes, it's quite spectacular. It suffered from neglect for a long time and was badly damaged by bombs in the 1980's but has been beautifully restored.

The first number is the length of the word, the second in the point value of the word
Mamae,the first number is number of letters in word and the second number is total points for that word.
the clues work like this: so 5/12 is a 5 letter word starting "so" worth 12 points. you need to know that a 4-letter word is straight points, 5 is double, 6 is triple, etc

It does take a while to really absorb. Most people set a goal of a certain number of words they want to get, and don't try to get them all
praise, most of us use a list like lickety's. Some few are good enough that they can use the tile and word stats alone.

I just want to wake up when it's done. Two more yrs and I get to endure it.
pam - minute polyps ,apparently. If my usual surgeon, Dion, had been doing it, I'm pretty sure he would have shifted them. However, as I entered the hospital, he was rushing out, eating an apple. He'd been called to a meeting and they were about to cancel his list for the rest of the day when another surgeon stepped in.
It's really not that bad, the prep is worse than the procedure as far as I am concerned...

Actually, Rose, a lovely lady who nurses at the 'bum clinic' felt that the best way to understand what the patients were experiencing was to go through it herself and so she did the prep, had the procedure, everything.

That Phospho stuff is a toxin, pure poison. I had to have a bowel prep before one of my abd operations. It tasted vile and made me puke repeatedly, have blowouts, and made me weak and clammy. I was laying on the bathroom floor, naked, thinking I would die before my operation the next day. "Dr M, I have to cancel my surgery for tomorrow because the bowel prep will kill me soon."
pam - she's the best! She's retiring early next year to write a book and has insisted on taking my 'phone number so I can help her when she 'gets stuck'. I can't imagine Rose getting stuck. Incidentally, though she's Jamaiican she looks Polynesian and reminds me of Bloody Mary from 'South Pacific' (just as feisty, too!). Love her!

I remember once writing to a friend, in all innocence, about my latest experience on the ward my Alzheimer-zapped Dad was on for 'respite' for my Mum. In one paragraph, I described a 58-year-old man in there who had 'early-onset Alzheimer's' and marched up and down all the time. Mum and I had dubbed him 'Marching Man'... we had our own names for most of the patients, like we and my Dad once did for everyone in our lives. I said that his sister came to visit him but the only way she could get any time with him was to link arms and march up and down with him. Apparently, my friend cried buckets on reading that.

Thank God I was was on colonsoncopy no. 3 earlier, and also know the complicated routes patients get wheeled out through in the QE Hospital... if I hadn't the guy in the bed with the blood drip, plasma, the other clear liquid they give you to give you energy (can't remember that right now) plus the portable oxygen cylinder and the pee-bag that got wheeled in and refused might have scared the hell out of me, waiting there, as I was, for my 3rd colonoscopy. Poor guy's eyes were moving but I do hope he was out of it as he got sent to other side of hospital, 'since they have oxygen suppplies'.
Don't know what had happened to him, or if he'd had an op and then needed some kind of bowel scope.

I heard one of my clinic's doctors say no oxygen was available. Odd, since they gave my oxygen when I didn't need it.
