he had prostate cancer, operation could not get it all so he was give a couple of years if lucky, he decided no chemo, no radiation, he wanted quality not quantity and lasted another 10 HEALTHY years

when he found the cancer had spread he lasted 3 months and died as scotsmen would with no fuss in a dignified way

his cancer was 1992 and he died in 2003

i slept by his bed the last week as my stepmother just could not, her way of grieving was not mine

yeah that's the weird thing about grief - similarities, but it hits people differently
no i was lucky to have him, i miss him a lot but know he is always looking over my shoulder
he was 83 and died being really thankful for the extra 10+ years he got

There's a nice looking book on Amazon with watercolor exercises, I might order it. Just to get comfortable putting color on paper. They are just exercises...not finished pieces. I think it comes from when I was little not having lots of art supplies and using what we had so sparingly! Gotta "jump over that shadow" (as they say in German). Good advice friends, thank you!

I'm going to talk to BA tomorrow (joy of joys!). I can see that being an exercise in futility. But at the moment I'm thinking of packing them all up and couriering them in a big parcel out there. I don't think BA will understand that a portfolio is too fragile for the hold, and they wouldn't let me carry it on!
I am pretty sure the people I know sent them quite seperately from their own flights - ie via a courier company. Make sure you don't under value for insurance purposes!

"Personally I would just say it's fragile, it's worth millions and if they destroy it you'll have their livers for in-flight breakfast. Cross, I think the Nikon would work well for you, especially if yo have the patientce to read and fiddle with the camera. I just use a point and shoot because I have no patience.

tripods are necessary for long exposures! but you defnitely get better results with a camera bigger than the size of a credit card if you work with macro or longish exposure

I have been surprised though at the quality of the shots I get from my Lumix, but i wouldnt suggest it for someone who wants to really get into photography. I had a nicer cannon but it stopped processing correctly, so this is a nice compromise, I can take it running too!

hi, everyone, coming back to chat for a bit, finished earlier today - here's a question for you, what could possible make the weekly trek to the supermarket more dreadful than usual?
a power outage !!! cash registers were down for a half hour....
people waiting on line - it was a crazy scene - worse than anything you've seen at airports, etc.

I had already done most of my shopping so I didn't want to just leave it and go home
here's what I did: found the spot where they sell patio tables and chairs, picked up a book from the sales rack and had a nice 30 minute read
I once went to look at shoes and was only gone a couple of mins but they took my trolly away. When I finally managed to find out what had happened to it they had put it all back........
the only other person who thought of that was a young girl who was about 9 months pregnant
I stormed out saying I was going to a competitor to do my shopping for another hour
that's so frustrating, right, Katie?

oh , yes, the power came back right away, but the cash registers were "down" so there were just tons of people standing around waiting to check out - the lights were on
so now I'm home with all my grocery bags lined up in the kitchen, but I decided to vent a little- thanks for being there, I feel better now
