wish I could help, mel.
quite full...started my job search for federal positions. Hope to hear before the end of year...
my neighbor that helps sometimes all her lights are on maybe I will go ahead and ask her

PAV love your choice of author one remarkable lady thankyou
OH LOL

bye pigeon
goodnight pigeon see you next time

ROFL sprite
ready for snow yet just?
:)
ok do you think this would get me in trouble? I am going to leave my phone intercom on and she has hers on and she is going to listen in and run over if she hears anything out of the ordinary (she is right next door)
I'm using my mom as an excuse to move back home...not htat she needs me..only that aftger this last very brief trip to Albuq, I'm suddenly tired of the big city life...need to slow down a bit...
arrgghhh no....and although we've always had them, the gov't of Que passed a law that it's now mandatory to have 4 winter tires
snicker
sounds like a plan, mel, your girls are bound to make noise if they need you. And you will be back soon.
Mel do you have far to go
that rather makes sense, just, that law.
hehehe PAV, always good to find an excuse to do what you really want.
i know in Oregon, chains are required in areas.
5 blocks to the store I am going to walk I can get there faster than driving lol
are those the nipply tires that you are talking about?
I am pretty sure I can carry only 2 winter tires.
dc you are from oregon? I am in SPringfield
well yes for sure dc but hubby and I have always done that even tho it hadn't been mandated.
chains are outlawed here...chew up the road too much
sending over some very diligent minders for Mels kids
but many didn't and tires ain't cheap
I lived in SIsters for many years mel..
ok I better go I will be back in a few
here too dart but the roads here look like we're an extension of Beirut
don';t worry too much, mel. See you soon.
I just moved back here from Bend it was too darn cold over there for my old bones lol
PAV sounds like a good choice alot of us seem to come to that conculsion and in my case i would agree with you 100 percent
SIsters is warmer
well it helps (?) that the family wants me to return, if only to provide someone shelter...my nephew, my sis..the list goes on...and we're having a mamor reu5 after CHristmas this year-end...
long slippery slope of the govt eventually telling you everything you can and cant do
hm, just found out you cannot put me in the past and you cannot have more of me than there already is.
every Spring, the radio stations have contests to see who can find the most and biggest potholes
to
more of family life and less of big city... sounds very healthy to me, PAV.
that's funny, just
hi flosey :)
that's right dart.....we've always done the winter tires cause we felt it was the most logical thing to do, but I don't need to be forced by gov't :(
same here justy...we have 2 seasons...winter and road construction
flosey, did you manage to get some sleep? It's been hard on you for quite a while, I believe.
hello, flosey
hi again flosey
hi sprite, dc, everyone, have been burried in the grid
that s/b a major reu5...my fingers aren't working tonight...!
hi jilli
oh we have 2 seasons here too darty....winter and July
hi flosey!
Pav as long as your kids dont become too unsettled with the move!
hi Pav
lol
I'm over halfway with NBT and too sleepy to do any more.
it is a good grid to be buried in, flosey!
ok just for the men - dinner tonight is fish baked in fresh breadcrumbs that have cheese, herbs and garlic mixed in with gormet potatoes, sauted cabbage and peas on the side
floseys got her head out of the grid
and our seasons are summer and less summer, lol!
yes, this grid is not too bad
argh Kiwi, why just for the men?
oh well done jilli goodnight sleep well see you next time
cuase i feel like it lol
go back to F from C...it seems warmer
I have lost the thread of the conversation
suddenly Kiwi, I shall move there instantly...make room for three!
started with a beastly headache - guess the grid has been good for it, easing off
sound good and hi kiwi
sleep well, jill
am glad, flosey *hug*
pav always room for you and your brood
sleep well, jilli, wtg :) *hug*
I made that exact same dish tonight kiwi....fresh perch caught by my brother in law who promptly filleted them after the catch!
what even if i bring some pineapple lumps and mallowpuffs kiwi?
goodnight jilli, see you tomorrow night?
hope your headache will be gone by bridge time tomorrow, flosey
must be Babble food then Just1
take c4 Jilli!
did you get my reply email, Kiwi?
well i only have three pieces of fish left over so you best hurry cause the boys want seconds lol
got so used to C now darty that F seems weird (grew up with non-metric system)
oh it will, thanks jilli - oh btw, saw Irene last Wednesday, she looks great
I'm fished out right about now so yeah the guys can have it
oh oh oh. I just saw the cloak my friend has on the movie im watching
see f on tv...use c at work..so used to switching back and forth between the two
Irene said she would be back for bridge on the 29th
I never know how to make C into F or back.
dart, where are you?
the only thing I still can't handle is length....ie I'm 5'6".I donlt know from metres in that regard! lol
I'm burying my nose again...must find n's s's and i's, then back up for air...
0=32 10=50 20=68 30=86 40 =104
just google it spritey!
have fun, PAV :)
you'll get simple easy to use conversion programs lol
I can't do my weight in kilos either
i grew up with f but as we have been metric for many years can understand both but have trouble converting
I usually don't have google at the ready in conversation, 1Mar
here are the goodies and some buzz bars and some choc fish and dinner doesnt matter i just want to give you a hug Hugs kiwi ka pai kiwi tried to teach ruru that one but i think he forgot it
5=41 15=59 25=77 35=95
kilos is not too bad for me esp with food
google is my home page lol
lol spritey
so it was 86f and 30c here today
thanks dart
i was raised with both, and temp i'm flexible, but othe measure i just do not get English
lol that's what it was in our 2nd and very short season....July
4 = 40, 16=61, 28=82
I can't do kilos.. I get the munchies too bad..
i have problems with the metric inches/centimetres
lol ruru
did you get my reply email, Kiwi?
i did spritey
jilli, I like those :) Easy to remember.
ok, thanks Kiwi
dang i knew i forgot something for your parcel
it's funny how my son, now 26 doesn't know from imperial measures
that's why I remember them, sprite, lol!
unless you are dyslexic
imperial measures are silly and confusing, so who can blame him.
i got the crunchies, the flakes, the mallow puffs, the pinkies, the milk bottles and the goldeen syrup
easiet to remember from freezing (0/32) & boiling (100/212) c-F = (C * 9/5 [almost double] )+ 32 = f OR [f-32]*5/9=c
parcel??? oh the parcel you promised me 4 months ago?
has yours not arrived Just????
aw Kiwi :) But it is a marvellous package as it is, I am sure.
I thought my grandson would reply in cm when I asked him how tall he was at age 25 -- he said six ft two
it's all what you're used to dc.....grew up with imperial and was about 25-30 when they switched to metric!
the problem is so many receipes i have kept for years still have pints etc
errr nooo kiwi.....had one arrived I'd have thanked you profusely!
hrmmmmmm not good - digs into her box of receipts to take to the post office to have a big moan tomorrow
i was educated fully in metric, and living in the States, i understand some bits of imperial, we use British here, not Imperial, i get, like gallons, but most is just baffling.
there is a calculator I just saw in a catalogue which does all the recipe conversions
i like did sent it late but it was sent last months payday
so was sent about 5 weeks ago
oh my really?
yup, for someone dyslexic it would be tough to remember, I agree. But for me it works wonders.
we are educated in metric but most ppl still go for inches in height and pounds in birth weight lol
strange that you were educated in metric in the states dc...a
interesting jilli, that would be a handy thing to have
sounds good, jilli, and very handy! I always have a tough time deciphering the recipes in babble chog.
we were educated in the british system wherebye our gallon was a little more than yours
this chog is going by so quickly
do you all already know Kiwi is going to make us a Babble Cookbook? Online?
i remember in late 60s all the govt hadouts to facilitate the "transition"....now 40 years later we have 2 & 3 liter sodas, & thats about it
poor lady, you should go take a little nap.
all I know is last week we were paying $1.46 CDN for a litre of gas :(
right, Imperial gallon 4L, ours is 3.89L, hence British, as it's pre-Imperial reform of a quart to be 1L instead of .987L
is that true spritey? kiwi?
i was too just...the big plan was for the whole country to make the switch i think in the 80's...but then they figured how much it would cost to retool everything and stuck with the old system
we had a price decrease last week for gas now down to $1.95 a litre
And I have a crusade about the pronunciation of kilometres -- it's a measurement so should be KILometres like CENTimetres, not kilOMetres like the measuring devices, barOMeters, thermOMeters.
yes 1Mar, our Kiwi :)
yes just but i need recipes - havent got any yet
was very pleasantly surprised - went for gas last week and they advised me to come back next day when it could be as much as .20/l less
in dutch it is, jilli :)
oh you want some? sounded like it was gonna be YOUR yummy recipes!
that was nice of them, flosey :)
Sprite and anyone else i say hello and watch as you all fly by
no it was send me your recipes - i already have my own recipe website www.cookingforfun.info
here lots of people say KILometre too, but lots don't.
not just Kiwi's, but from all of us, 1Mar. So please, everyone, send your recipes to Kiwi! It will be a cook book from all over the world.
*hugs lady*
well, it's bed for me now -- *poof*
night jilli
goodnight jilli sleep well see you next time
sleep well, jilli *hug*
night jilli
night jilli, see you tomorrow night
ok sprite I'll look into my bag of tricks and see what I can come up with
Night Jill Hugs back
lovely, 1Mar!
must send a reciepe or 2
Ok im going to go and play sims 2
I think I say kilomEter
please do, Andree!
enjoy, lady
but I also say POtato and TOmato
kiwi one of my favourite reciepes is in my profile, i believe mrp put it in the school reciepe book
darn, one letter short of coitus.

ackkkk!!!
just google it, 1Mar :P
omg
hubby and i just watched and are trying to remember. i guess we are getting old. ty groovy
so sorry
OMG.......Brian Cranston won YIPEEEEEE
go amazing race - hosted by a kiwi :)
we do not watch breaking bad. at least that is our excuse we are sticking with it.
Dart and Ru and the rest of you yanks.......have you seen Breaking Bad with Brian Cranston????
half the programs that are on here we havent seen
it is sooooo fantastic .....unbelieveable acting
nope just
Can't get Breaking Bad here so I d/l'd onto my comp and watched it here
I don't get to watch much TV as a rule.. I tend to read more
its on AMC cable station in the states....you must see it if you like great series
except for Bill Maher and some football...
with my shiftwork..dont see too many series
I bought a "media player" which enables me to d/l movies tv shows to my computer, then transfer it to the "media player" and watch it on tv....it's fantastic
well I'm not a fan of tv but there are some series that are phenominal
c
i dont watch enough tv to know any of those shows
sorry 'bout that
and usually that "cable" station series are really outside of the box and they only produce anywhere from 10 to 13 episodes a season so not hard to tape or d/l or whatever
waaa steve wonder is coming to NZ next month and i cant go
aww kiwi why can't you go?
I love Bill Mahr too ru
casue its either a 4 hour drive at a cost of $400 for gas (with my gas guzzler) or a airplane flight about the same price + ticket cost of $150
was so pissed when they took him off abc....couldn't get the cable station that he went to but now can d/l it :)
sorry about $300 gas
wow, that is pricy
ok, off to bed for me, 100 to get tomorrow
ohhh where's he performing? not in Wellington?
what do you drive a tank kiwi?
goodnight all
night flosey
night flosey, sleep well *hug* I hope your head ache will be gone tomorrow.
no either in new plymouth or down in christchurch
i have a v6 3l mitsubishi pajero long wheel base 4wd tank yup lol
is that on the So. island?
oh don't really know the distances between kiwi cities :(
wow lady.....you know your cars!
new plymouth is a 4 hour drive north west of me and christchurch is in the middle west of the south island
sorry cat in the way
ok.....now I know that New Zealand is composed of more than one island (blush)
lol kiwi, i know what i drive but would hate to be asked what model
christchurch is in the middle of the south island on the east coast
nz has two main island called north and south lol (duh boring) then a small third island at the bottom of the south island called stewart island
just east of the natl park by mt cook i think
i love NZ, lived there for 3 years in the 70's
you need to compact up there kiwi....4 cylinder stick shift
<is a petrol head
dartie been googling? lol
nope...geography is one of my faves
mine too but evidently not as fave as you dartie lol
2/3 of kiwis live in the north island - the south island is quite rugged in most places and of the two thirds who live in the north about half of them live in auckland and its surrounding cities
but when you said new plymouth..thought you were talking about a car model lol
lolol but but they don't make 'em anymore
night everyone...See you later.. I have 74 to go.. and am too tired to look for more..good luck everyone
night ruru *hug*
most of our towns and cities are named after their british equivalents or well known british icons - like Plymouth, Welllington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Palmerston North

hi MonkeyG, thanks :) Can you believe it? Noise workmen just outside my room, metal clanking all the time... I just wanna be sick in peace!
Good lord!!!! We have the word with the most "ten"'s... hottentottententententoenstelling
I do understand, Sprite. That's nasty.
oh my, Kiwi, that is incredible. DId you just type it, or googled it and copied it?
Meaning, an exhibition of Hottentot tents
i like the town in Wis. Oconomowoc...every other letter the same
lol i cant type that for my life
lol... hottentottententententoonstellingsterr eintractorbandventieldopje.
We have a town here called Ee.
lol, ok Kiwi, I was worried for a sec.
i suppose Alabama is that way too
Yes, sometimes things can get out of hand...
hehehe, yes, and in Fries it is called Ei. To keep things simple.
Of course. Then there are places (all over the world) that speak of simpler times... I am pretty sure Drie Hoefijzers was founded right where someone's horse threw a shoe. Waiting for the horse to be good again, looking around, thinking, "Hey, it's not so bad here!"
indeed, MonkeyG :) Names can be so funny. We have a place called Vrouwenverdriet here (Women's Suffering)
Dang, can't use funion.
just drop the F
That was probably one of those "widow towns" right? They sprung up during the plague years. Widows all moved into cloisters and helped each other.
add re
and add an re-
Well, yeah, but funions are good!
Thanks folks!

dutch is very easy
yep MG i thought it would be
Walter thinks so too.

*giggles*
hi bfsog
That it is easy, I mean. Being born here helps.
yes, that is it. It is very tough second language.
the first word i find is ru4,5 (the scrap of the litter!)
MG does Walter have to speak Dutch as his first language
aw bfsog, always eyes for the lil' uns.
hi there bfsog
start small sprite
I am so proud of him! Most kids speak the languages mixed until they're 7 or so. Walter separates them.Friday, his first day of school, he said, "Can I go over there?" (where the toys were). I said he needed to ask the teacher. He went straight over and said, "Mag ik daar naartoe?"
oh clever Walter
Walter is a smart kid. He will be good at both languages.
Walter is being raised completely bilingual. We speak English at home, and he watches kids' shows in Dutch, goes to school in Dutch, went to daycare in Dutch, and has friends from both language groups.
1
He has books in both languages and chooses them for storytime randomly, as well.
he speaks both languages quite well for his age too
dont mean to change the subject but still havent seen hugahugs she went for her test results last tuesday and nothing please the people know who they are ask that huga gets some help and that she is fine thanks Babblers
Thanks! Yes, he's good at languages and numbers. And other things.

G'd morning Haz.
Hi Haz
Hello there - we have blue skies outside as well. A red letter day!
Thanks Haz been a little concerned as she went to get her test results last tuesday and that was it
She said that she had just been babbling at different times and had missed you.
lovely grid today
I'm just reading back in the chat log and noticed that you had asked about her again.
I must say if you dont mind at all its lovely to see so many original Babblers here at once
Original babblers sounds so much better than 'old-timers'
thanks Babblers hugs all round
well no old timers here thast belongs with the gold miners Haz! lol
Can I join in the hugs? Can't remember when I joined. 3 years ago?
so how are you and george going especially after his little endeavour with you know who
I know - sometimes, depending on when you look in, there are lots of unfamiliar names. But it's good that Babble grows.
me too hydra
***"original Babblers" = old fogeys***
sure can Hydra Babble hugs do wonders
Mmmmphhh! Squeeeeeze!
Caon't miss out on a Babble Hug! Morning all :)
just looked at my profile, may 2006
just noticed the standard has changed though lots just want clues dont want to think and so many making it a race
hi fmitch
Ah - one mention of old fogeys and FMitch appears. Good morning!
Big Hugs for FM Good Morning
Hi FMitch!
LOL, I won't point out that you are a tad older than me tho Haz dear.
A tad. Just a tad. And with the plastic surgery, nobody would realise it.
Hello Andree, lore and hydra and Lori who is under the grid somewhere
G'd morning FM, shall I launch a preemptive strike and what you with a cushion?
Go for it if you feel brave enough *grin*
Don't do it while she's on her guard.
Hate ta' say it out loud lore, but I agree that it isn't a race, and I like to work for the words.
well i am never in the race lore, just plod at my own pace and chat sometimes
It's just as well it's not a race - I've never won a race in my life.
Except to the PB.....
That said, babbles is a life sentence without parole. ***saunters over to FM and wallops her with a feather pillow***
I blame Lori for inciting that ra4 word. Entrapment.
I think you have George stashed in there and thats why you have been happy to spend so much time in it!
Hey!! I wasn't ready!
It's a source of deep shame to me that I have been so careless recently. I blame everyone else.
Haz fell for it. heh heh heh
BTW nice grid today
I know. I should just observe silently, it doesn't send you to the PB.
Anyone see lynxxx?
Grid? What grid?
du6/24 please
It's a lovely grid today, Fmitch, you're right. Even Kori/Lori likes it.

Later hydra, have a good one.
**sneaks up on Kori and sprays with stringfoam**
see you again Hydra take care
thx lori, went to morewords
***Kori's spider sense was tingling, and she cleverly ducked, whilst silmultaneously launching a water balloon with the stealth of an eagle***
Back shortly. I would say 'behave' but it's about as redundant as most apostrophes I see these days. Worst offender recently 'Watche's'
***If one considers eagles to be stealthy***
and tied herself in a knot with all those manouvers!
only 2 to go so see you next time Haz take care
***I'm off to the Chiropractor now***

A Haz special?

hello, could someone clue the no7?
would if I could, but I can't (don't have it)
means night, as in some animals are diurnal, others are no7, plural for the 8
Hi everyone
okie dokey, i should go anyway...
hi Hugabugs
thx pab
yw Pini
hi hug!!! Can't believe you are here; I just popped in for a bit. How did your tests come out?
Hi Dee
Well, still no word on the results for the colonoscopy, but they called me in for the results of the ct scan
apparently, there's something showing on the adrenal glands, so I have to go for more tests
hi hugs and dee and Jane
Hi flosey
we're on vacation & daughter knew I needed a babble fix, so she lent me her laptop; what happened with the CT?
hope all goes well hugs
hi flosey; not even sure where the adrenal glands are; how long till you have next tests?
where are you vacationing?
they sit ontop of the kidneys... little triangles
they produce 3 different kinds of hormones which of course, includes adrenaline
Outer banks, North Carolina; okay; will say prayers it is either a shadow or something treatable with meds
Outer banks, North Carolina; okay; will say prayers it is either a shadow or something treatable with meds
no idea on how long I have to wait... went for more blood work though
Oh, it will be an interesting morning...
...Koda has spotted a fly and can't quite catch it, but keeps looking for it!
if not working... makes you tired??
Hope your other results and upcoming tests come out well and that whatever may be out of order is soon back to normal.
I'm kinda afraid to read up on it, the first few hits I got in Google were showing tumors... so I decided not to continue looking
my doc gets mad at me if I check internet; think you are smart to wait; no reason to scare yourself
on another note, good news... I finally started getting my unemployment cheques. It only took them 2.5 months
thoughts and prayers with you hugs
thank you all for your well wishes
Dee, where are you on the outer banks?
so very glad for the dollars; so stupid you had to wait that long; glad it is resolved; I'm sure that helps
Kill Devil Hills in a house we rented for a week
it is one of my favorite places in the world
The outer banks are my favorite place in the world.
LOL!
it sure does... I finally had my first full nite's sleep on Friday... I haven't been able to sleep for longer than 4 hrs at a time, usually 2 hr stints
lol... great minds think alike!~
glad that hurdle is past
My great ambition in life it to live on the OBs and be a beachcomber.
Bea, is that you with the beautiful red hair?
I keep asking hubby if he would move here - told him yesterday he could become a pool "boy" or a cabana boy HAHA
No. That is my fav author, Janet Evanovich.
Where do you live now, Dee?
oh, wow bea... just finished her Fear Fourteen book; normally we live in Indiana
oh, you didn't mention authors so wondered
Still waiting to get my hands on that one. Long wait from the public library.
I rationalized & bought it at bookstore before we left on vacation
I need to put that in my profile don't I, flosey?
sounds like mystery?
Yes, she is considered a mystery writer. However, they are hysterical from beginning to end.
must look for her, thanks
grandma masur and lulu are 2 of the funniest characters
Start with One for the Money. All of her books are numbered.
I think her ralationships with Joe and Ranger a a scream.
except for about 12 or so books.. some Christmas books; a few about a lady who used to work on cars with her dad...
me too bea
I discovered a new favorite author. Louise Penny. She writes a series that takes place in Canada. They are funny, poetic, scary and very mysterious. I absolutely love her books. Her website is great, too.
She has the "between the numbers" books that are centered around some holiday.
I think I'll have to check her out
Thanks, Gail. I'm always looking for new mystery series.
reading her books makes me happy; I laugh so much at her descriptions - especially of grandma's antics and Lulu's clothes...
Her detective is wonderul, lots of intrigue and layers to her plots. The village they take place in is fabulous. You want to go live there, except for all the murders, of course.
will look for Penny also, especially anything referring to Canadian locations
Must go get furkids from the kennel. They have been there all weekend, poor things.
later then Bea
Bye! *poof*
so nice to chat with you bea... next time I'll have to pack you in my suitcase lol
p spit

*away even
thanks, got all des now
Good morning/afternoon all.
morning Haz
hi haz
Hello there!
hi haz
Hello Volley - is this not unusually late for you?
actually this would be a "normal" time for most folks lol... on vacation; hubby is taking a walk; daughter is working out; and I am working on my last 72 words with my great coffee (it's 10:48 am)
That explains it - you're usually on around flip time (I read the archives, I like my bed too much to be around at that time)
lol... I play when I can't get comfortable enough to sleep have RA and fibromyalgia, so try not to disrupt hubby's sleep; babble is my diversion and a real blessing
It's good to have a diversion, in that case. I think I'd find flip a bit frantic with all the declarations.
you can ignore them if you don't want to watch... I am not a veteran babbler yet, so often helps me :~)
interesting how different times of the day determine how games are played and what is shared in chat... kinda cool actually
agree Haz, I come on at flip, then pretty much ignore chat for first hour
We were just talking this morning about 'original babblers' and how it sounded better than 'old timers'. Babble veterans makes them sound even better.
hope someday I can do like you 2
you vets are really neat folks!
Some people enjoy it - it's nice to have the option to ignore chat if necessary.
Halfway!
agreed
But you're right, the chat log does ebb and flow and take on different characteristics depending on who is around and what the grid is like.
(Speaking of ignoring chat, I have been. Hello, all)
Afternoon all.
hey
seems so silly to be using morewords right away just to call out the big words
brb potty break for me
Hello Samantha - we're not THAT offended that you've been ignoring us.
Good afternoon FMitch.
I agree flosey. Hello Haz:)
If I want recriminations, I can look into the eyes of my dogs. I haven't fed them yet.
flosey - I think one player has completely misunderstood the whole calling process.
And you're content to talk to us while your dogs starve, Samantha?
awe lol Sam
lol - then much later asking for clues for 4 and 5 letter words
hows that haz?
Absolutely. I'm aiming them towards that stylish Twiggy look. Maybe one day we can make it to "gaunt"
hi FMitch - what's the challenge for today?
Haz, what determines a veteran babbler?
Hi josh .. hmm let me think
OK I made it to 243 w/o the list
So see you you can do better w/o asking for clues
Hello pugmama! Well, as I understand it, flip time was traditionally where people declared the larger words as they find them themselves. These days the numbers of letters in a word found worthy of declaration are much shorter and it has been known for a word to be declared after it has been found through Lickety. (Am I being pernickety?)
Sandy - 'oldies' that have babbled for more yers than we care to admit :)
sandy - I have no idea what constitutes a veteran babbler. More than 2 years?
I wouldln't say you were Haz
oh I see. lots of questionable goings on a flip lately
well, i'm already at 204 so we'll see if i can hack that
afternoon, babblers!
like people cluing after only a 1/2 hour etc
Go josh :) Afternoon EvaN
Just think. If I were a poet, I'd be on my way to a rhyme with Lickety and pernickety. 'Ode to babble'
they're usually asked not to clue for first hour
Yes, pug. And I saw you getting hot under the collar a few evenings ago - hmmmmm???????????
I've pretty much given up on even looking at the chog at flip
LOL Haz
Good afternoon everybody!!!!!!
dont recall
very interesting...
Hello movieman.
hi movieman
I 'dont either pug although occasionally I will pop in to say hello to jilli and so forth bu then I go again. Winds me i[ otherwise.
hi MM
One player was being clued to a finish, pug. Lots of drama and question marks.
Hello mm
hello all
For one moment I was reading 'winds me' as in the being hit in the solar plexus - I take it it's winds as in the clock?
Hello peri.
Hello peri probably both Haz *grin*
oh yes haz THAT player!
The one!
that one is my biggest pet peeve!
hello
*grins at pug* was waiting for the penny to drop
not usually on at the flip, wondering who THAT player is....
Hello harpjane.
always wants 3 dozen rapid fire clues & endless reclues etc etc
** hoping I am not THAT player ***
You are NOT that player, ruru.
no no and never see that one at flip
oh THAAAT player..
ruru of course it's not you, hi :)
clue for ac 9 please.
HI everyone
Hello ruru.
ruru YOU ARE WELL LIKED here
good afternoon everyone:) just poppe in briefly before work
hello Jean
Hello jean, nice to see you
i don't think i'm THAT player, at least I hope not
sandy you are not.
thank you FMitch:)
hi there ruru - don't think THAT player is around at the moment
no sandy not you either
**not going to ask for a clue yet***..LOL
i have no idea who THAT player is
LOL
this is hysterical
Awe go on ruru - you know thats why Im here
ac 9 and 10 please
go on - name names
are we being catty, hmmm
accretion
tut tut
sorry
I'm Sparticus!
do say
ac9/66 - ac, four letters of a Greek island, finish with a charged particle.
nm, i guess i got it
no, I'm sparticus!
I am tired, freezing to death, just realised that I haven't fed the dogs and also haven't packed my husband's bag- it's all the fault of this EVIL game!!!
Then plural for ac10/84
well, thanks for that, magzel -- just give me the 11 + im good to go. ;)
I am getting paranoid... never really knew there was/is babble etiquette... interesting discussion
More dogs going unfed? At least Spangle has never gone hungry.....
maybe we should have a code for words we find ourselves at the flip
ty9 omo (on my own)
Volley - the etiquette thing raises hackles on both sides.
as opposed to ty9 mw (more words)
The border collie has nicked off - probably looking for food at the neighbours
good morning, all.
hi all
The 'veteran' babblers kind of know what the traditions are, newer babblers sometimes accept them ,sometimes don't and it can get fraught. Mostly it all works out.
hi skoo
you are right haz; have seen sarcastic and hurtful comments fly (from both sides) many times
well volley in the case we were discussing its not so much etiquette as why bother to play if you make so little effort to find the words yourself?
good morning Skooj5:)
Hi skoo and mkg
true pug, I think that is the whole point isn't it?
People play for different reasons.
hi mkg:) soz missed you
It's a difficult one (traditions) as many who have been around from the start like the security of knowing what is accepted and what is not. Others don't see the point of making life slightly more difficult for themselves.
good point; may be us "newbies" who aren't great players yet... you make great points
The true veterans are very good
I play cos I can't stop ... someone help me ;)
so true
I'm just here to renew my icon
we all ask for clues but 20 or 30 rapid fire requests and many 4's that are easy to figure by points is just asinine!
i dont get the greek island clue. could anyone illuminate me? need the ac 9.
I get annoyed with players (not so new) continue to ask for simple 4 letter words without trying some combos to find it themselves...
tranced
whoops
I don't know that it's anything to do with being a great player. What constitutes a great player?
same here FM, once I start a grid I can't leave it until finished
Mitch, you need to get yourself under control!!
i'm not sure if it's strictly a greek island, mkg - but it is an island in the mediterranean
I became addicted quickly, but not great player yet, but I do think it is easy enough to ignore chat...
got the ac words ty.
Atlases and dictionaries and encyclopaedias are great aids for this game!
mkg - scroll back, a babbler typed the actual word in the grid a few mins ago I think
can someone look at my profile and tell me how long I've been playing?
Aug 3 2005
Lickety is great to have - that is my best friend
8/3/05 hug
BTW Hugs you can click on your icon here in the log too
thanks FM... I wasn't sure
August 2005
That's just over 3 years of your life, Hugabugs, dedicated to finding words.
couldn't finish usually without lickety or morewords...
yeah, but mine wasn't showing
got to dash again, need to walk dogs before work, Happy Babbling everyone:)
Bye Jean!
Bye jean
is there a way to find a user's profile by their username, without them being online or in chat?
Lickety saves me a great many grey hairs
It's funny that you should mention morewords. Volley.....
yes go to rankings
need ac 7 32 the second one please.
I think anyone who finishes a grid is a great player..
i am always amazed at the newbies who don't bother to read the help section, and want the players to explain the game to them. i would never do that
Yes josh - go to rankings and do a control F
I always look at Sprites to find the icon for the day
Yes, joshua - go to rankings, do control F,type their name and they should be highlighted.
Is Lickety marketing Hair Dye?
what if they're not in the rankings?
well, I've got to run... must get ready for a funeral
then you won't find them
If they're not in the rankings.... I don't know.
i'm trying to find the profile of the first account i made when babble was in beta, which i forgot the password to
I'd like to know how some tunes show up in "What I'm listening to" I don't have online music playing at any time
ooh so sorry to hear hug
ha ha ruru
bye hug
you could always email Dr_G josh
it's my former father-in-law... Britt's grandfather, so I think I should go...
email dr god josh
my daughter went to one today- for a 25 year old who was found dead in her house- autopsy results not in yet
oh, that's sad sandy
might have been an embolism
Good for you Hugs
so nice of you to do that hug
"Lickety's Luster Plus Hair Dye"....avoid grey hair and advanced aging from Babble...
it is really tragic
you never know what is around the corner so I say be as bad as you can every day!
A lick of lickety restores the ravages of a bad babble day!
ok FM I am stuck on one of the first ac 7.32's I have the plural of the 6 but can't find the other..help>
Lickety needs to go into chair-bound exercises as well.
just happened to a 47 year old friend of ours sandy; one of our "healthiest" friends... what a shock!
ac7 - ac, plus a vowel, finish with American hours of darkness
no wonder.. thank you haz...
the other ac7 is hig card in a can (UK)
You're welcome.
thanks ac's are done
oops in cans
must get going, back later for last 30.Happy Babbling buddies! Poof!
missing two 8 letter words, have an x 2, in, no, sp x 2, and tr, what am I missing please
2 x ac 8/45 and 8/40
help with in8 and no8 please
Doh, sorry
no8 is to do with things that come out only at night
thanks FMitch
hmmm could be lots of things eh?
oops, already had no8 but thanks
in8 - one who should not be in your house
there are 2 x in8 8/45 and 8/50
but still need in8
thanks Haz and FM
in8/45 - extend the in5/10 (bury word) with a spot of drama on stage
looking for in8/45
hello, FM, Haz, peri, sady, pab, et al
Hello dc!
the other I think is the ac8/45 pl of the 7
thanks got the other in8
hello, dc
thanks Haz, hello dc
Hey dc, how goe it?
pretty well, how are you?
only have 1 ac7 and it cannot be pluralized
autumnul, sigh
thanks FMitch, 8's one
peri - ac7 - ac, plus a vowel, then four letters for American hours of darkness
ah, peri, that means you have the ac7 i don't
it is the first day of autumn but a lovely day, supposed to get to upper 70's. it is sunny now
take the ac5/12 add a 2 letter word to it for the 7 and pl for the 8
Sorry - scrub previous post...
ty, haz!
peri, ac7/32, what people on stage do, opp. of out + opp. on off
oops, that's supposed to be opp. of off
ac7/32 - a spot of drama for three, a vowel, French refusal (plural for ac8/45)
i remember being appalled by that spelling of night when it first started appearing in fast food signs, some decades ago.
Hello, peeps.
thanks everyone the 2nd ac8 is a new word for me
Aha. Vicuna arrives!
welcom, vic!
hi Vicuna
Hello Vi!
bbs
What mayhem today?
I was appalled this morning in Marks and Spencer. A sign at the checkout proclaiming 10 item's or less. I protested.
To whom? And what was the response?
haz , we have that here all the time
oh, how painful, haz!
Gasp, What s the world coming to, just shows how down market M&S have become
I pointed it out to the sales assistant. She agreed that it was poor English, then asked if I was an English teacher.
It isn't poor; it's wrong!
Could I hire myself out as proof-reader to the retail sector?
I think the apostrophe is the most misused punctuation mark
I wonder if it is therapy?
heaven knows the retail sector needs proofreading!
That would be great, Haz, but unfortunately I think they've concluded that they don't need proof-readers.
another one is "buses" and "busses" for mistakes
It seems that these days, if in doubt, throw in an apostrophe. If I collapse with heart failure, I'm holding signwriters responsible.
the one that makes me twitch is when people type "loose" when they mean "lose"
If I survive.
i would vote for the comma - if you don't know what to do throw in a comma
testify, joshua!
am i missing something? earlier said 2 x ac8. only have one, but all 8's done
Or 'I could of....' as in 'I could of danced all night' Arrgh!
Just one ac8, you're right, Chris.
Stop, stop, I beg you all!
then you are OK Chris
the mispronounciation of mischievous as mischEEvious makes me nuts
How about "there" for "their" ?
thought i was going mad
What's it worth, Vicuna? You realise I took a risk in quoting a song?
chris you need not feel lonely here!
Oh Erda. That one is grim. And oft repeated at flip.
FM - i've got 236 and i'm opening lickety before i pull my eyeballs out
Morning, Babbleonians. How about eXpresso vs. espresso. I hate that one.
phantom pancake
Ah well, fair enough :)
Oh yes, Haz!!
I had a greengrocer that sold carrot's swede's and cabbage's - I told him he could save himself three felt pens a year if only he'd drop the apostrophes
hmm i want a real pancake
True, Haz. That was very daring of you. But I could not, in fact, have danced all night, so you're safe.
That is still good going josh
We have a TV programme called Grumpy Old Men and its counterpart Grumpy Old Women. This is turning into Grumpy Old Babblers.
I hate it when somone order EX-presso..ARGh
I hate it when somone order EX-presso..ARGh
Hi Deeha :)
I ALWAYS want a real pancake, sandy!
hi, deeha!
i agree Judi and ruru! that one bothers me to no end!
LOL Iam highly amused tonight (the border collie has returned)
mmmm. pancakes. i'm hungry
Hi folks yes, I admit I am a grumpy old woman- well, I admit grumpy and woman!!
or sherBERT instead of sherbet...
How about "definately" ??
also, hello everyone
how about Babblers Against Bad Spelling (BABS)
I hate that americans pronounce laboratory as labratory, even though they spell it the same way as us
or color instead of colour
And can I also point out that 'Me and Him are going to the shops' is WRONG. And I hate that TV children's TV announcers do it all the time.
ok, now you're just getting nitpicky; those are not errors, just differences
Sherbert is a legitimate alternate spelling/pronounciation, SeanS.
We have a sign in our local supermarket 'free from foods' I know what they are getting at but I sometimes ask if they are for people on diets!!
LOL
" She and I got married a few years ago "... ack!
really, Vi? I hadn't heard that..
Well, that's what Webster's has heard! lol
Stop all this joviality, I need to pack the bag and go to bed
what's wrong with that one ruru?
ruru, in that case, I is correct, as it's a subject.
I hate it when announcers run one word into another, I recently heard histori Coxford grate grate!!
What's wrong with getting amrried?
*married?
wikipedia says that "sherbert" is a common misspelling of sherbet...
how bafflling, deeha. perhaps they mean free-form foods?
Ah well that is a WHOLE new subject!
It's grammatically correct (she and I) but it might be less clumsy if you just say 'We got married...'
Is Webster a real dictionary - I thought Oxford was the way to go
i suppose it doesn't matter that much
no, I think 'free from additives'
You and ruru got married? I can't keep up!
Just misuse of I instead of me drives mrs ru nutso
However I must say we have a huge Webster's Dictionary that is very good
Webster's was the standard here for centuries. I do concur that the OED is preferred, though.
or vice versa
actually should not use "got" married, but should say, "She and I married"
i'm with her, ruru, it's rampant. sigh
no volleymom you're wrong
Well, so wikipedia vs Random House Webster's... The point is that many of the language "rules' are merely matters of opinion and personal peeve. This has been the case since the very first English grammars in the late 16th century.
got married is common in this region of the country.
btw I have ac 9 and a tr 9... anyone have the last 9
very true, Vi... the rules are always changing anyway
Did you know thatr William Shakespeare is an anagram of I am a poorish speller!! Good that, aint it??
or he and I were married and lived in hope
ra9 & 10
SHe and I got divorced is more common in California...lol
Well, having stirred up all sorts of trouble (was anybody else's face red earlier on?), I'm going to take Spangle out for a walk.. Back later.

Goodbye, harpjane!
i cannot wait until they finish with the 'stream repair'. so tired of the pounding.
Are they repairing a stream near you dc
How much longer do you ahve to endure?
Just be glad they don't have to repair an entire river?
ty for the ra 9 and 10!
or even a large dam
yw
they have cleared about 4m of trees either side of it, are driving piles to reinforce the stream bank, and adding rocks and old phone poles to help keep it on course. The Snakeden Branch of The Glad shall not flow naturally again for generations.
The Glade that should read.

This is a nice grid today, but long enough that even after I zip through a ton of lovely words... there are still quite a few to go. Sigh.
indeed so ,vic
I thought the same too
Observation: If anyone needs to take a nap, there's a Fouton in the grid.
Take out the o for correct spelling, and then step slowly away from the penalty box.

Yay for phaeton!

Well done Phae.
I watched a show on this wacko couple whose whole house was filled with hundreds of Kincaid paintings and lithographs..
Thank Yor!...now to get something less important done! Happy Babbling!
Well... I hope it gave them pleasure!

moonstruck chocolates in Oregon are unbelievable
LOL Hursh
i've not encountered them, ruru, i'll have to seek them out.
:( i haven't got any chocolate with me :(
shhhh you all i am going to the dentist,
woohoo i found the 11!
go, hurshy!
oh, tell your dentist we'll all testify that you never ever eat any sugar.
a compound? or a verb made noun?
verb made noun
the 11 is a noun
ty first two?
de11
i or u?
aHA!
by the way, does anyone else find it really really amusing that there are now commercials for high fructose corn syrup?
are there really? i don't have TV, so i miss these things.
it's a scream..esp when she says "made from corn?"
yes!
i'll have to search youtube LOL
I saw that commercial, Hursh! I just blinked at it and said, "huh??"
i figure i am already old enought ot be done in byt thae crap they secretly allowed me to ingest
i don't really understand it, because i don't think there are a lot of people out there rejecting high fructose corn syrup more than other kinds of sugars, so what is the point? i mean, you need to have a REALLY good point to overcome the sheer inherent silliness of having a commercial for high fructose corn syrup.
i avoid high fructose corn syrup as much as is reasonable to do so.
so do a lot of people whom i know.
they have had VERY bad press. especially from Dr. Oz. gee it was on oprah, must be so ;)
but is that part and parcel of avoiding overly sugary stuff in general? or is it that in particular?
ohhh, on oprah - well i didn't know about the oprah thingy.
in particular. it's being put into a lot of reduced fat stuff to boost taste.
Yes, I avoid it too. I've read that it is particularly bad - especially for children. Very concentrated sweetener. Making us all fatter.
it's the new sugar of choice. cheaper
ah, luckily i don't eat a lot of reduced fat stuff.
i like reduced fat PB of course, it's sweet.
i guess HFCS is the new trans fat
i mean in terms of "thing to avoid"
must go have fun kids!
ttfn
i avoid the high-fructose stuff by and large in particular. i've no real issue with fructose, nor sucrose.
i mean"must go> Have fun, kids! LOL
hasta, hurshy :)
i not go, i ttfn to the owl
oh, wait, hast, TO, Hursh is still around, no?
i'm confused, as usual. :)
*poof*
the thing is, as soon as you SEE a commercial for HFCS, you're like, suspicious, so i think it's counterproductive. like, whenever i see a news show saying they are "unbiased" or "fair and balanced" - if you have to say it, you probably aren't!
i agree, hurshy
so is this a commercial for a brand of HFCS?
no, not a brand, just HFCS in general.
like cotton commercials, but eerier.
or pork, egg, cheese, and beef ads.
milk, how could i forget the milk!
so meat and dairy are big into it... how come i never see asparagus ads?
is this to get the public to accept the idea, I don't get the point of the commercial if it isn't a brand a consumer can buy?
aspargus is rather seasonal, no?
it's to get the public to accept the idea
we can buy HFCS. The point is to convince people like me that it is a safe food that does not cause undue weight gain when consumed in reasonale amounts, i'm betting.
they SAY "it's fine in moderation" but they MEAN don't worry your little head about HFCS!
ok, it is near ubiquitous in sweet junk food, so we accept it by purchaisng the products
thing is, it's on such a high % of processed foods. Who needs to eat all that sugar.
it shows up in pasta sauces, frozen dinners, many places you might not expect.
animaniacs had a song about the crazy stuff in food :)
let me see if i can remember...
hee! I'd forgotten about that, hurshy. such a great show, Animaniacs. :)
gelllllatinized triglycerin, phosphate, soybean, lecithin, deoxylized trisilicon, dipped in chocolate (bring it on!)
citrus enzymes, BHT, powdered milk (sounds good to me!), baking soda, carob gum, carbohydrates (yummy yum)
hooooray for sugar cause we love it, chocolate chips we want more of it, cake and ice cream watch us shove it down our throats real fast
that song sounds just like my daily diet
Catchy.
heee!
monosodium glutanate, zinc disodium algenate, soybean oil, butter, fat, caramel center (i'll eat that!)
i dunno that that's all completely accurate but it's the best i can do.
BBL. Lunch bell chimes.
later, judi

i agree, hurshy

conair ?
ding ding ding!
oh, wow! i know jack about movies.
isn't a very good movie anyway.
many are not, so what can you do. other do one's best to avoid directly paying to see many.
yes. does it annoy you that some people just like to "watch a movie" - not a particular movie
hello all
if you're willing to wait, you can use hulu.com to see them
stupid internet not working right for weeks now. i wonder if it relates to school starting.
have not been to a movie theater in over 3 years
gah! Yes, hurshy, it does.
like, a group of friends is going to hang out, they say, come over and watch a movie. and i'm like, "which movie?" and they think it's a weird thing to ask.
my sister has netflix and get lots of dvd's from the library
my friends, we usualyl agree on the movie in advance, otherwise, what's the point
exactly, that is how i feel dc. but not all do and hence i have seen conair.
netflix is wonderful
hi all
I go to the cinema very rarely because they always have the volume up SO LOUD that I can't make out what anybody is saying. It took one cinema visit and two TV viewings before I could work out the plot of Patriot Games.
hi there sprite, you are in the grid today :-)
hello sp6!
i think i saw part of it once channel-surfing
I have been the cause of many PB-sendings, alas ;)
Hello you!
goodness, haz, what bother.
welcome, sp6!
i'm rather of the camp for common things like user names, people are overzealous about PB.
I'm still not sure who was a villain. Maybe it doesn't matter as long as the explosions are loud.
love your author, dc
:)
here, here
who is that in your icon, dc?
Ursula K Le Guin, peri
I am doing a very early update, will go to bed soon.
i've been reading a chunk of her more recent stuff lately.
oh, never read any of her books, what type of books does she write
mostly sci-fi and fantasy, peri, much speculative
then I would not like her, not crazy about those types of books
interesting, seain, I of course know her old stuff and I love it, but haven't read any of her recent things. Will remember the name in your text.
her Four Ways to Forgiveness is a quartet of morality tales set in her unirverse, really very much worth the read.
Lavinia was quite nice, based on a character in the Aenid (sp?)
so no5, seain :) They are on my list now.
i almost chose Octavia E Butler, an other SF writer.
back to bed with me, sitting upright is not too enjoyable atm. Hope to see you tomorrow.
may you rest well, sprite
hsalps ... returning for air.....
