Catherine Zeta Jones, Benicio del Toro, Michael Douglas, Don CHeadle

1:23 am

about the drug trade out of mexico

1:23 am

Well, that's a bummer -- the screen on my desktop just went black and I think the hard drive has crashed. So I'm now on the laptop. Why do these things happen on a Friday night? My office TV died on a Friday night too, and that's been another bummer -- I ordered a 19" Toshiba 10 days ago and it hadn't turned up by yesterday so I emailed them. Phone call from them this morning to say they didn't have any left and they were discontinued. BUT it worked out well -- they still have a 19" with a DVD and will ship it by air at no cost and a big discount because it's also discontinued. It should arrive Wednesday or Thursday.

1:23 am

very captivating

1:24 am

aw jilli

1:24 am

your hard drive wants the weekend off :D

1:24 am

oh jilli, rotten luck

1:24 am

good thing you have laptop

1:25 am

lucky break on the TV replacement

1:26 am

Can't have too many computers! At least the desktop was made here and I hope I can contact them tomorrow and they can fix it. And I have a complete backup system now.

1:28 am

So, I had 128 words when the desktop crashed. I'll try for a few more -- they were flowing well. (Famous last words...)

1:30 am

found the sh 8

1:30 am

it'll keep your yom kippur up :D

1:31 am

that was my first 8

1:31 am

*smartypants* :D

1:32 am

thought so at the time

1:33 am

got it, ty ruru (but it has an extra vowel from what I've usually seen)

hi, wet to bed early, was awakened by killer charley horses!

1:33 am

nice going jilli

1:34 am

(pulls out paper towels for melon ) :D

1:34 am

ouch, melon -- I've had those too.

1:34 am

ru, she went, not wet

1:35 am

that's not what she said jilli

1:35 am

I take things literally :D

you're both right, other than my being perfectly dry. typonese strikes agai.

1:37 am

I get the charley horses too

1:37 am

eat a banana or an orange and stretch

These weren't in tha calf muscles. At the risk of sending ruru into a fit of silliness, both inner thighs siezed up. I was howling, my son wole up and got me some water.

1:37 am

I had a horrible Migraine last night.. kept me up all night

I did exactly that, Dr ruru (;

1:38 am

I love it when my thighs freeze up :D

1:38 am

poor ruru :-(

I took a major bike ride today. Major for me, about 14 miles round trip. COming back was a steady uphill.

1:39 am

ah

1:39 am

you didn't stretch afterwards

Probably not, now that I think of it.

1:41 am

if you overdo it and don't stretch you're done for

On another note—no pun intended—I am loving my Steinway!!!!

1:41 am

you're just stringing us along :D

It's the key to my success. I'm just a key broad.

1:42 am

keep the pedal to the metal :D

haha

1:45 am

over halfway, hooray!

Wow. This is one tricky board for nbt

1:45 am

phantom: atheist

1:53 am

what tomfoolery

1:53 am

with help at the beginning - hubby started it before I came in

1:53 am

*blinks innocently*

minus punctuation that is rather ambiguous.

1:53 am

hopeless

OK, a blink is punctuation,

1:55 am

a blink is a period piece

oops I left a comma hanging.

ooh, you got a million of'em don't you, ruru

1:57 am

like a beach is full of ampersands

1:57 am

1:57 am

LOL

1:57 am

1:57 am

hmf

2:05 am

*picks JIlli up*

is that a clue? It sure is a toasty one.

2:05 am

I'm leavin it alone

leavin or leaven?

2:06 am

shakes head sadly

2:06 am

leaven

please can you clue the sh8 - I've tried but cant find it

2:06 am

jewish village.. spelled differently jiving

2:07 am

we just had it the other day too

heh, there's no Y on the board.

2:07 am

dr g was worried about an infectoins

Thanks ruru! I know that word, my great grandparents were from one in Russia. Never saw it spelled that way.

2:08 am

infection :D

NBS, thanks to ruru.

te6, is a pair that is, oddly enough, an identical pair of syllables, not pronounced identically.

still can't get it

quiet, the ___ offensive of the Vietnam war, and the above street level trains.

so, was that the normal word, ruru?

2:11 am

2:11 am

2:20 am

good morning all

2:23 am

hi sprite!

2:23 am

jilli :D *hug*

2:24 am

you're up early, aren't you, sprite?

2:24 am

Hey there, sprite.

2:24 am

hi peach :) *hug*

2:25 am

for a Saturday, maybe. It is 9.25 am here. Have been up for about an hour.

2:25 am

jilli, did you ever get around to checking out my profile for the babble dictionary and the glossary?

2:26 am

LAZY bones. ;D

2:26 am

Oh, 9:25 am isn't too bad ;-)

2:26 am

*giggles* yeah, I know :P

2:27 am

I was just checking it out now, sprite -- terrific! And I love your icon.

2:27 am

thanks jilli! I thought it would be good for a smile or two from you :)

2:27 am

2:28 am

2:28 am

2:29 am

2:30 am

2:31 am

hehehe you know me too well

2:32 am

2:32 am

Yes, please.

2:32 am

2:33 am

I have to go to bed -- 95 leftbut I'll wait for that sh8 hint from ruru...

2:33 am

2:33 am

2:33 am

2:33 am

2:34 am

ts 6

2:34 am

ts 7 too

2:34 am

hehehe nice kid you were

2:34 am

it will fly right by you jilli

2:36 am

I think 'most spoken through the nose' should be a word.

2:37 am

i'd have to go to a nasal academy to learn that language

2:37 am

true. But you have to go to the PB before that.

2:38 am

ha

2:38 am

I didn't have that one

2:38 am

thanks sprite

2:38 am

30 to go

2:38 am

we could buy a pack of laundry pegs and combine the two.

2:39 am

go ruru goooooo

2:39 am

I won't make it.. I haven't listed

2:40 am

you can do it. Grid were finished even before lists were invented ;)

2:42 am

got the rocky sh8, thx, ru, and had the fly. Bed now! Goodnight/day all...*poof

2:43 am

night night, jilli, sleep well and dream even better

2:43 am

'most butt oriented'... not valid either

2:48 am

going to be a grind, only half way through

2:49 am

hiya joso, not as easy as yesterday's.

2:49 am

not quite, missed ya yesterday

2:50 am

I played late last night, didn't have time in the day. Missed you too :)

2:52 am

busy day, sounds good maybe. ruby and pug had a great dog a thon chat yesterday

2:52 am

sorry to have missed it. Yes, it was a good day, Fridays are therapy days for me. Taxing but rewarding.

2:55 am

glad it went well for you. Sorry you missed it too, you'd mentioned it had been a while since you chatted with ruby, but I'm sure she will resurface

2:56 am

we will find eachother again, no doubt. If not here, then through email. How was your day, joso?

2:56 am

oh, before I forget to tell you: we found a second hand hometrainer and it is now ours! I am gonna train every morning now.

2:57 am

easy day, 4th day swimming, then caught up on some video I've been stockpiling.

2:58 am

oh nice! How wonderful you are keeping up the swimming.

2:59 am

excelent day, therapy and a trainer, you must be feeling justifiably virtous.

3:00 am

a little bit, yes :D I also called the clinic and they scheduled appointments for me. Both next month already.

3:02 am

man sprite, your chart is just filling up with gold stars, soon you are going to be the perfect child that the rest of the class hates, lol

3:03 am

lolollll am collecting brownie points! My therapist said almost the same yesterday... that in a year I will be in their hall of fame, lol.

3:04 am

you have me grinning ear to ear for you, what a great thing to hear from a theropist

3:05 am

I thought so too. A very nice boost for me in all this scary shit.

3:07 am

betch babble feels better than normal, good things always feel better when you've earned a reward

3:09 am

yeah, I think you are right about that

3:09 am

where are you going to set up the trainer, *snicker*

3:10 am

hahaha for now in the living room. Son has returned to reasonable behaviour. But will keep your suggestion in mind for a next time.

3:12 am

kind of glad you didn't listen to me, would hate for it to blow up and be my fault. good that sonny is being reasonable though.

3:13 am

oh but I listened! And I will keep it in mind.

3:16 am

mostly just channeling my dad

3:18 am

were you brought up strict, joso?

3:23 am

no, my parrents raised 3 very different boys and we all had the freedom to become ourselves. But there where rules and we understood them. By today's standards perhaps a bit strict, ie spanking was always on the table. i got spanked about 3 times, more often remeber getting off with a lessor punishment thinking I did deserve a spanking that time. But my dad would never have permmited me to behave towards mom as your son has behaved recently, refuse a chore is ine thing, screeming at mom, unthinkable.

3:24 am

very clear. We do about the same here, although no spanking. But taking away privileges when mishaving.

3:27 am

yea, most people if they aprove spanking hit their kids frequently, for us it was the ultimate punishment, and very rarely used. Banning spanking may be a good thing as so many people have such poor judgment.

3:27 am

so very true. I wouldn't object to the way your parents used it. But some people... better not at all then.

3:28 am

dad was also big on making a punishment help us understand the consequences of our actions, like little bro having to restore a sport field almost by hand.

3:29 am

that is awesome. Yes, that really brings the lesson home.

3:30 am

break a neighbors window, pay for it but also go over and apalogise.

3:31 am

oh we did the same thing. Apologise in person. When they were small, we would come along and hold their hand, but still had them apologise themselves.

3:36 am

then I've always had an interest in the human mind, which includes alot of experiments with kids, and picked up a few things. like standing in the corner should be 1 min per years age of the child. kids percieve time differently and 5 mins to a todler is an eternity.

3:37 am

indeed. I learned that one from Supernanny, grin.

3:37 am

but 5 mins to a 13 year old is no problem

3:38 am

3 or less and they don't understand lieing

3:39 am

exactly. punishments and time-outs should help the child understand, not be for the venting of the parent's frustration.

3:39 am

from day 1 we, humans, have a desire to help. one of the things that separates us from the animals.

3:40 am

do we? I didn't know that. From day one?

3:40 am

yes, improtant they understand why, not think mom or dad is having an off day

3:41 am

we have also tried to be honest to them about ourselves... if we DID have an offday and didn't react in proportion to their breaking rules, to apologise later to them.

3:47 am

yes, one experiment put 2 treats (bananas or candies) on the ends of a board with a rope loosly attached, if only one child or monkey pulled the rope comes free, both pairs of participants figured out if they both pulled the board would come to them and they both get the reward, both able to cooperate. but then they got an unexpected result, one would pull faster and get the reward before thier parner, both stoped and got thier treat, but the kids would go back and hold the rope so thier partner could get thier treat, the monkeys didn't bother to go back

3:48 am

wow that is something. I really didn't know. I like that.

3:50 am

lol my husband is teasing me... I said I would go train after babble and he said he would make sure I had a map!

3:50 am

alot of these experiments are realy interesting. cats just really truly don't give a damn, dogs are way loyal.

3:51 am

to the machine I take it

3:51 am

no, for when I am ON the machine!

3:52 am

hehehehehehe

3:52 am

I like that kind of stuff. I once read that donkeys are actually smarter than horses... if you overtax or overload a horse, it will try and walk for you. But a donkey just stays put until he is rested, or he has a load he can carry.

3:52 am

wouldn't want you to get lost, what a nice guy

3:53 am

he is such a dear, lolol... wouldn't want him any other way.

3:55 am

oysters start as one gender then switch to the other

3:55 am

oh right. And some frogs can switch to another gender if there is need for that, I believe.

3:56 am

Hm... if that is true... I think I learned that from the book Jurassic Park.

3:56 am

according to speilberg dinos do that too

3:57 am

hey it is true. It is in wikipedia too :)

3:57 am

about the frogs, that is. Not dinos.

3:59 am

yes, I don't think they have a way of knowing that for dinos

3:59 am

not without making a real Jurassic Park... which I hope they will never do. Let sleeping raptors lie.

4:01 am

I think we probabaly will some time, when it becomes cheap enough, we do have a real facination with dinosaurs

4:02 am

we sure do. I think most people will have done a paper on dinos at school at least once.

4:03 am

the smaller the kid, the more facinated

4:04 am

kind of like little kids and the hulk, other super heros are cool but for the smallest tykes the hulk is number one

4:04 am

I remember my own immense feeling of wonder when I learned some dinos were so big, they had an extra kind of brain in their tail root to help them navigate. They developed it because it took a nerve signal too long to reach the tail.

4:05 am

octopusses kind of have 9 brains

4:07 am

they have a dispersed nural network, but a denser network at the base of each arm and another central dense zone

4:08 am

fascinating. Nature is incredible, isn't it.

4:10 am

it is, I alwas thought it was a tough thing for a sf writer to come up with a new alien, so many different things already covered here on earth

4:12 am

very true. Most invented aliens are just a play on an earth animal. ET was kinda cool though.

4:12 am

squids comunicating with each other via skin displays. the guys trying to impress girls with visual poetry

4:13 am

poetry in motion :)

4:15 am

very romantic untill you see some guys try to get in there by whereing the colours of the gals current boyfriend, try to slip by in disguise, lol

4:18 am

ohhhh that is evil, loll!

4:19 am

man those S's are evil too today.

4:19 am

good morning

4:20 am

hey ruby, how's your day been

4:20 am

hiya ruby :) How are you today? How are the puppies and how is your husband doing?

4:23 am

I'm OK, pups are wonderful, huwband is another story! :(

4:23 am

nd I think we'll finally get some much-needed rain

4:28 am

sorry about the husband... it is not easy, for either of you, I know. I hope you know I am thinking of you daily and holding you in my heart and prayers.

4:28 am

a bit of rain is nice for the garden! We had another way-too-hot-and-humid day yesterday and I am happy to see a bit of clouds and rain today as well.

4:30 am

{{sprite}} yesterday he went to the supermarket at 6AM and didn't understand why it was so dark....

4:31 am

I've got to get some sleep, been nice sprite, and sorry I've got to go just as you are arriving but just dying here, g'nite all

4:32 am

loved chatting with you, joso. Sleep well.

4:33 am

don't die, joso!

4:33 am

aw poor man... he is deteriorating so fast. Quite a worry for you, all the time, isn't it Ruby. *hugs* my friend. I will email you.

4:33 am

I know he probably shouldn't drive, but he doesn't go far and I think taking away his keys would be fatal

4:37 am

yes, I think so too. And where you live, there are more elderly people still driving even if they shouldn't. Some choices are hard to make, but I think you are right about it killing him if you had to take away his keys.

4:38 am

happily, he knows the local roads very well and never drives fast

4:39 am

off to lunch, see you later, cookie!

4:39 am

no, he takes his time and has a well-developed automatism going for driving and finding his way.

4:39 am

bye my dear friend, have a good one.

4:45 am

68 S's... it is a puzzle all by itself.

9:22 am

Molly, it was gutwrenching.

9:23 am

nope, but I did need that word... so, thanks

9:23 am

Thank you Annie. I wanted to know how sad it was because I'm just not into sad movies anymore.

9:23 am

as 5/10 is a yoga pose

9:23 am

oh, got it, it was that in the plural

9:23 am

9:24 am

Molly, then I strongly suggest that you do not see it

9:24 am

Ha! No wonder I don't know what it means. : D

9:24 am

Yes, Jmb, I got it! Thank you. :^)

9:24 am

Annie, I kind of figured it was a weeper.

9:25 am

2 boxes of Kleenex.

9:25 am

upsetting to the max

9:26 am

I thought it was a really good movie, excellent acting

9:26 am

Hi kje, the acting was superb the the subject matter was upsetting.

9:26 am

I'm sure for the emotionally detached, it is a cinematic beauty. Otherwise it would not have been an Oscar contender. I'm just not able to watch sad movies much anymore.

9:28 am

the subject matter is gut wrenching, but something I see people struggle with all the time. how to honor their loved ones wishes when they don't want a long protracted decline...

9:29 am

her suffering really got to me and I agreed with the husband's decision at the end. What a movie.

9:31 am

the loneliness of the couple having to deal with the challenges by themselves... lack of support, the question re what does it mean to love someone... extremely tough topic, but I think the movie handled it well in all its uncomfortably messy details

9:32 am

hello everybody. Just looking at the last few comments, I knew you were talking about Amour

9:32 am

Watching my m-in-law decline is gut wrenching too. Haven't seen the movie...may not want to

9:32 am

Great, sad movie

9:33 am

ruby, did you see it?

9:33 am

And good morning all!

9:33 am

Yes, when it first came out, before it won all the award

9:33 am

after this movie, I am going to dig out a Woody Allen film, maybe Radio Days, that always makes me laugh

9:33 am

It was first-run locally (and without subtitles)

9:34 am

me too, ruby - a local independent theater was showing it... very somber audience on the exit

9:35 am

Anne, you can always watch Chocolat again

9:35 am

a movie that always makes me laugh is "Best in Show"

9:35 am

that and Kenneth Branaugh's Much Ado About Nothing

9:35 am

I have to agree with you annie, life has changed me, I need to go to movies that let me escape or make me laugh...

9:35 am

Radio Days is it for me. Ruby the scene is

it is a glorious day here, the house is quiet for a change. everyone is out. so I am enjoying the peace and having a g&t cause I can :)

11:11 am

it has an extra vowel near the end that it doesn't have to have

sometimes we get it without that

The village ends in high he*** (shoes with spikes)

2:53 pm

hey min

Only if you find the right "fit" and person to love... It doesn't always turn out that way, so I guess we are some of the lucky ones. It's a lifelong , evolving dedication, that's for certain!!!

Hi Minveryork . Everything is good with me, and I hope the same goes for you :-)

I am doing well, Min and you?

3:12 pm

I am doing well. I gave up on the grid so just hanging out.

3:28 pm

3:30 pm

back again

3:31 pm

Hi Annie. You've saved me from talking to myself. :-)

3:32 pm

well, Soodle, then you are speaking to an intelligent person

3:33 pm

meaning you, of course

3:34 pm

who here is on facebook??

3:35 pm

Lol. I've had 'one of those days'. My son was due into Dublin Airport @ 8.10 am. It took me 90 mins to drive there, & he called me to tell me he had slept in & missed the flight. Grr.

3:35 pm

i got on it but can t remember my password... tried to change it.... that frigging site HATES me... and i do not have the patiience to screw with it

3:36 pm

ssmom, you just told my story as pertains to FB

3:36 pm

Hello Anniebrrok! How are U? It turned out my AC was not broken because it started working again, thank goodness!

3:36 pm

I'm a Facebooker Sammys. Mainly to creep on my kids, to see what they are up to!

3:36 pm

Minver, that is great! Im fine and hope you are too.

3:37 pm

Min..... I'm dying to hear the outcome with the car..

3:38 pm

do you play games on facebook... my daughters want to to play games with them

3:39 pm

thank you annie... i am not wrong then..facebook is a bitch

3:40 pm

Less so now, Sammys. Since I got aniPad, I now download game apps. Theres a few really super word game apps for iPad. No wondermyhouse is a mess. :-(

3:40 pm

No SMom, you are not wrong.

3:40 pm

And clearly my space bar is wonky. Sorry.

3:41 pm

i am not a facebook fan

3:42 pm

The delinquent son finally arrived home, 11 hours late.... Bearing an early birthday gift. An iPhone 5! I'm speechless.

3:43 pm

Wow! What a great surprise! Happy birthday Soodle!!!

3:44 pm

He is early. Your birthday is weeks away.

3:47 pm

And good for you, getting expensive loot from your kid for a birthday present. Cha-ching!

3:47 pm

I know, but he won't be home again for another while. Its his birthday tomorrow. I gave birth to him 10 days before my 30th birthday.

3:49 pm

I remember being referred to as the 'elderly prima-gravida' in the maternity ward!

3:50 pm

To be 29 & referred to as elderly horrifying!

3:51 pm

Odd similarity. I gave birth to my eldest 10 days before my 21st birthday. : D

3:57 pm

Oh my! I look at my 21 yr old daughter, & frankly wouldn't trust her with a goldfish - never mind a baby. You were very very young, Molls.

3:58 pm

i understand that... i was 30 when i had my son and could hear the other new mothers whispering... who is that OLD WOMSHE IS TOO OLD TO HAVE BABIES.. i had to wait... my first two were 10 and 9,, ( I had to grow my own babysitters)\

3:59 pm

Yes, very young and I had to forgo a lot of my "seed sowing" years. But I am making up for that now. Hoo ah!

4:01 pm

Speaking of childbirth, I listened to a hilarious account of a man going to some clinic in Amsterdam which specialises in simulating labour for men. Sounds weird, but search you tube for Henry McKean labour. I almost crashed the car laughing.

4:03 pm

Eh, we would have died out as a species long ago if men had to go through labor.

4:03 pm

Thats why I LOVE MollyL! That Hoo ah gets me every time! Love ya Molls!

4:07 pm

And now you have great grand kids, Smom? You must have done something right!

4:09 pm

and i did it a lot soodle.. i have 4 kids. 4 grands and 4 great grands

4:10 pm

sh7/32 plz

4:11 pm

What a wonderful achievement, S'Mom. More power to ya!

4:13 pm

tks. and the sad thing is that i seem to have more energyand curiosity about life than my grandrs.. whe the hell is that??

4:14 pm

Ivesy, sh + *a or coffee+ we usually eat 3 m*a**s a day. Sorry. Clumsy clue.

4:15 pm

I think I botched that clumsy clue. I understand it's a Jewish clue.....

4:15 pm

That is sad, SMom

4:16 pm

ty soodle was able to work it out'

4:17 pm

So, what do you attribute that to S'mom? The internet? TV?, Apathy?

4:20 pm

a lot of factors.... i thin... maybe the internet...the media........ parents not strick enough........ refusal to take directikoon..... lack of religion....diet..... society in general

4:20 pm

strict enough

4:22 pm

Thats too bad. It's terrible to think of youngsters growing up without a sense of awe or wonder.

4:22 pm

It's sad that having a sense of wonder has gone down the tubes

4:22 pm

i had to make my kids behave and do the right thing (alone) because walt4er was not intere4sted in raising kids.. so i did it) i made them do theirhomework and read and learn bercause i knew it was the right thing to do.... it was hard and i thought they had the backbone to pass it on... apparently i was wrong

4:22 pm

Brain-sharing again, Molls....

4:24 pm

People don't tell their kids stories anymore. I don't mean read to them, I mean tell them imaginary, made up stories. Parents no longer encourage imagination in their kids.

4:24 pm

3 out of 4 in each set are succesful, maybe 3 out of 4our "ain't bad", but i still ache for the fourth
