and you, dear? all good with you?
Hey there, Rose and biltong.
helloooo peach
lol, that's good to hear. Yes, thank you, not too bad either.
Hi peach
good morning all
Hello sprite :)
How are things with you today?
not so great, bit of a family crisis here. And you?
good morning everyone
morning scouser
hello sprite
I am okay, thank you. Yes, I saw in the chat yesterday that you are experiencing problems. I am very sorry and my wish for you is that all goes smoothly :)
Hello scouser
thank you :) Good wishes are priceless. Glad to hear you are ok!
Hello Biltong
and Hi grannyrose
Hello Friends; running behind today
Good morning, sprite.
Hi there, puglet.
hiya peach and pug *hugs*
hey sprite, pugs and scouser
hi rose :) *hug*
7 x k's for you to 'k'onquer, sprite, lol.
Hello pug
argh yes. First thing I did in this grid. 7!
Hi Peach, Rose,Sprite andBilton and Scouser
{{hugs}} sprite. so the boyo isn't behaving himself yet?
Oh, I missed scouser....Hi there scouser.
no, alas not. He came back home yesterday, demanded money, was threatening to me. Had to lock him out. And just now he was back again to pick up school stuff. We talked with our neighbours yesterday and my lady neighbour came to support me when she saw him standing in front of the house.
one panic attack after another here... if I wanted occasions to practise handling them, I couldn't have asked for better ones.
hello gapeach
*sigh* what our kids put us through, hey sprite? glad you are able to have some support from your neighbour.
Oh sprite, so sorry to hear. Panic attacks are extremely unpleasant.
and so are ungrateful children, biltong.
thanks Biltong, yes they are.
yes they are wonderful people.
Sprite, I was taking Xanax for years because of my children.....weening off now, but boy, it sure helped me through many rough times with them.
I agree, rose, they can be. I had a similar experience with my youngest son when he was about 16/17. Things improved a lot, but to this day (he is 29) he still tends to withdraw from the family.
I hear you, peach! I am taking oxazepam now. Haven't used it in months, and now several a day.
Don't come off them cold turkey.....when things calm down, you can start cutting back the dose. I used to break mine into sections.
will remember that.
Well, my peeps, I need to start getting ready for bed. You all are in my prayers. Just know that a higher power is watching over us always.
sleep well, peach, and pleasant dreams.
Hi all :)
Night peach, sweet dreams.
tanks Peach and pleasent dreams
good morning
morning ruby *hug*
Sorry to read that you're having such a sh**ty time Sprite :(
good night peach, sweet dreams
Morning ruby :)

and co5 ruby and liz
hi Liz, yeah, bumpy road atm. Thanks for caring.
hello biltong
GROUP HUG, GROUP HUG!!!!
Sleep well Peach :)
ahh Ruby! I sent you mail 3xs and it keeps coming back saying you have been disconnected or have an fatal errer
Hi Liz
{{{{{{{ huge, enormous hug }}}}}}
Hello Liz :)
hmm, I wrote to you, pugs about dogs and Detroit. Did you receive that one?
Hi Puglet and Biltong and Rose and Ruby and all ;)
The more the merrier, I say
Hugs for within the group
Hugs to all from here too
yess Ruby and I answered back twice and just re sent it a few minutes ago
I didn't know you were having another bad time with Tim,Sprite. I thought things had improved after Rob's hopsitalization.
Lots of lovely people this evening - great :)
*joins in the group hug* *Squeezeeeeee*
they had, ruby. Until he hit his sister.
I lookforward to reading it pugs
Aw Sprite - that's horrendous!!!!!
I just hope it makes it
OMG! I didn't know. That's awful. Sons!!! I alays thought that sons were supposed to be easier, but with your experience and mine since April, I guess not.....
and, of course, we start feeling responsible.
yes it is terrible. And yes, it is a straight road to self doubt. Where did I go wrong? What could I have done different? Etc Etc.
My sister goes through the same thing and her son is 55! Lives in NY and never calls her
Taking a step back as don't have kids so don't feel able to comment but you know my sympathies are there, so don't take silence as lack of care!
certainly won't, Liz, you wouldn't believe how important it is to feel your support!
It's all we can do, especially at a distance.
sprite, did you see my last email?
Yes, I think so, rose, the one you sent in reply to my long one?
yes, dear. good...now go back and read it again. until you know it by heart. and please stop the self-doubts
will do, rose. Have been reading it over and over since I got it. Just what I needed, your words :)
it's hard, sweetie.. i remember thinking exactly what you are saying. and then i realised it's not my problem...it was my son's problem. yes it has caused me a lot of grief over the years, but i continue on, giving thanx for my other children and their families.
so, now dear, switch your focus. look to your daughter and husband...and above all...STAND FIRM. you are woman, i want to hear your roar....
have informed school, and will try and enlist some help from youth care here.
hehehe rose, ok.... RRRRRROARRRRR!
pugscould you be leaving the second e off kelley?
yay sprite
Well done, sprite
Liking the roar!
small woof back!
lol
:D I love my babble friends so much.
that is something we ALL need to do, roar and let the world know we are women who will fight and defend our loved ones.
hmmm, maybe that should read....fight for??
*giggles* A nice freudian slip there.
Ruby it did not go through again but I resent it and if it does you will have to scroll up the page to get to my letter as I had to for them putting in reason why it didnt go through
naughty nelly, roar, sweetheart....so even himself will hear you.
himself is deaf as a post
So just roar louder!!!
exactly, ruby....so let 'er rip, hun....
its the address I used before--so I dont know Ruby
pugs, at the bottom of ruby's email, should have options reply, forward. hit reply and the type in your message
yes it does and Ive resent it 4x's--it goes but then comes back saying this address has either been disconnection or is having a fatal errer
let me try
okay Sprite--thanks
Rose is it tomorrow that you go to your doctor again?
Bye for now everyone. Happy babbling, and sprite stay strong :)
Bye Biltong - enjoy your day :)
Bye Bilton
no, dear, wednesday, it is monday evening here now. went to GP today, she was quite emphatic, 5 hour shifts only, seated duties only, and only 3 shifts/week.
thanks Biltong, have a good day!
bye biltong, hope you have a good one, dear
5 hr shifts and 3 per week sounds good. I know the seated is good for you but boring paperwork!!!
when do you start back to work then
wednesday....fortunately surgeon's rooms are in the same building.
*giggle* yeah, i know, liz. *rolls eyes * but what can i do?
Wheelie chair in surgery - hands over scalpel!
In theatre, I meant!
sounds good, rose. Yeah, boring indeed, but can't be helped. Don't forget to bring your reading :)
roflol....i'd like to see that, liz
And I don't mean a wheel chair!
oh, yeah, sprite. have already put the mags in my work bag.
There ought to be a market for designing such a thing - so as not to discriminate against those who can't walk but want to be scrub nurses!
good girl, rose! A bottle of water, your cellphone and you will be set. Can you bring your own thermos for tea or coffee?
go for it, liz...make your fortune.
iPad and then you can babble!
hehehe Liz rocks
I'll leave it to you Rose and will just consult with you! You know the needs!
i wish, liz....but our IT section has put a block on those sites. *sigh*
lolol, no, sprite, liz rolls....
Grrrrr!
hahahaha... rock 'n' roll, baby!
Rock and roll!!! More rock though!
Great minds!
LOLOL
:)
Time to love you and leave you. Hubby's got a meeting tonight, so we're eating early. Enjoy your days / evenings. Hugs again to all :)
have a peaceful evening, Liz, and sleep well!
hugs Liz good night too
{{hugs}}} liz, have a lovely night

okay thanks! This is the first time I have had any trouble
I will go check--bbs
a crooked byte somewhere, pug ;)
wish you could see my loungeroom floor at the moment. DH hasn't updated the 'loan' book since this time last year. he borrowed money from mother mac to, firstly buy a decent car in order to drive her to and fro to her appointments. and then when he up-dated the motorcycle...the floor is a sea of bills, which he has paid, and he is working out just how much he owes the mother.
lol rose... quite a sight that must be
lol, what do i have to do? remind him every time a bill comes in to dock the loan? for goodness sake!!
oh, goodie, the car is paid off...
he will figure it out, rose. Let him. Some tasks are better not shared :D
absolutely, dear friend....
okay I got yours Sprite and Ruby's came back so I resent it using your address(which is what I got) but I just erased mine and retyped it in--so will see what happens now
indeed :) Computers can be so weird.
*grins at rose* Indeed, my lady rose... RRRROARRR!
I know! I have sent her a couple before and no trouble
*giggle*
when electrical appliances act up, my husband calls it 'a crooked volt'. So with computers I always call those weird bugs 'crooked bytes'.
I found a site that offers free online courses and Iam going to self educate myself on a few things(the site is Khanacademy)
wow pug, that is lovely! I so love people who are willing to keep on learning. You rock!
Like computers for #1-lol
I seen yesterday on here Crossy is going back to school--thats just awsome!
he is? Wowwwww! God I love crossy. Always have. He is amazing.
brb
LOLOL...DH just said to me 'don't worry your pretty li5 head about the money, i will do that" offered to poke him in the eye.....he said ' can you reach from there?'' when i went to move laptop off my knee, he said 'that's cheating'

Iam not feeling so hot this morning
14 left here. But pug, first of all, YOU are smart. And second, don't compare how you play with people who have been playing for years. Like rose and me. We have lots of experience with these grids.
what sprite said, pugs
oh it dont make me feel bad! Iam amazed how fast some of you can zip through thses
so will you, pug, in time. Once you have acquired an extensive knowledge of useless words, lol!
pugs, we all have our own routines. once you develop yours, you too will zip through the grid.
and how does Lickety know to clue so quickly and volleydeemom is like wow!
lickety developed a program which analyses the grid, and then tells us how many words, what length and their score.
Lickety has made a little program that makes the clues for him. And Volleymomdee makes endless lists in the chog with second letters etc.
dee is as you say, wow!!!!
dart and gremlinn are pretty fast too
I see in the grid that Ruby's awful incounter with a certain weed is here=lol
Ive never met either of them

yup,my da used to say"the sun is always over the yardarm somewhere"
not sure what a yardarm is but ok
;-) @Molls
SUN IS OVER THE YARDARM - "(time for happy hour to begin). This expression is thought to have its origins in an officers' custom aboard ships sailing in the north Atlantic. In those latitudes, the sun would rise above the upper yards - the horizontal spars mounted on the masts, from which squaresails were hung - around 11 a.m. Since this coincided with the forenoon 'stand easy,' officers would take advantage of the break to go below for their first tot of spirits for the day. The expression washed ashore where the sun appears over the figurative yardarm a bit later in the day, generally after 5 p.m., and the end of the workday." From "When a Loose Cannon Flogs a Dead Horse There's the Devil to Pay: Seafaring Words in Everyday Speech" by Olivia A. Isil (International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press, McGraw-Hill, 1996)

speaking of pepper, just made the best ever couscous salad..and threw in some aleppo pepper
I don't know aleppo pepper
Dorens have you ever had lentils in mustard gravy. I had some at brunch yesterday. they were wonderful. I found a recipe on line
pot luck lunch at school tomorrow from aleppo, syria. nice and warmly spicy but more complex than regular pepper flakes. I do love mustard greens, peri, that sounds good
oh, i misread you peri, thought mustard greens.
not mustard greens, a gravy/sauce made with grey poupon mustard
well, that sounds tasty too.
and I have fava beans in some kind of spicy sauce with hot peppers which was good too
had, even
and lemoncello bread pudding which was delish
<--Decides not to mention plain old chef's salad lunch.
I like to try new foods. it is an adventure for me

Your quote is particularily appropriate for our current debacle o-o
Our perception is subjective ... I do not believe in absolutes ... ergo, there are many truths ...
Of course, as the quote teaches, I could be wrong.
I agree. Looking at things I try to be open, just wish I knew we were being told the whole story...
Had a great political discussion with my 93 year old mom today at dinner. She pointed out we had killed just as many children with the bombs at Nagasaki and Hiroshima...we shouln't be pointing fingers. In her wisdom....sadly true
Oh, and I should point out my mom is a die hard Republican, unlike her daughter...LOL
my father made Ronald Reagan look like Jerry RUbin
The Founding Fathers did not favor political parties ... for reasons that their prescience has confirmed. My view is the politicos violate their oaths of office daily. Power always trumps the best interests of the people.
Mine became less so as time wore on
daily....I say minute by minute!

"I reject the cynical view that politics is a dirty business." ~Richard M Nixon
the pot to the kettle...great quote
remember...it's not illegal if the president does it ;)
or, Dick Cheney after 9/11 ... "It will be necessary for us to be a nation of men, and not laws." A sentiment still in place.
Yup, the more it changes, the more it remains the same...
JOHN QUINCY ADAMS Address on U.S. Foreign Policy July 4, 1821
Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example. She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force.... She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit.... [America's] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace. This has been her Declaration: this has been, as far as her necessary intercourse with the rest of mankind would permit, her practice.
Wow, can I steal it? And where is it from?
Dec of ind?
My other guess would be Jefferson or Franklin

But you look good doing it!!
hi all!
and back in the 70,s i used to like smoking the weed, now just plain ole fresh air can be an adventure
howdy ,suze!
ah yes, the good old days....
hi sue, what's new in astronomy
hi crossy!
time for me to go soon, suze, first class at 9 am tomorrow!
are you taking classes, crossy, or teaching them?
taking them
cool! What are you taking?
joso, we are anticipating the arrival of comet Ison - it may be a very bright one (or it may fizzle; predicting these things is still kind of hard)
one upmanship on levels of decrepitude how sad are we crossy
well for the next 2 month it is advance computer tech then a whole pile of english
well, sounds interesting!
well,it fills otherwise WASTED TIME ON MY PART
and I am pretty sure I am creakier than both of you, so there! :-)
sorry caps
sound way cool crossy
i sound like a bowl of rice krispies when i get up in the morn, just add milk
all i need is a few of those 25 year old classmate honeys to tell me how i remind them of their dear departed dad and i will be all set
ok crossy, you win, lucky sod
haha, one reason I didn't want to take classes at the university where I teach
reality check 101 lol
well,at least they no longer use the strap and i can bring a calculator to class:))
yeah, the problem I started running into was that students used the calculators on their smart phones and I really couldn't let them bring those to tests
what about a plain ole calculator
that was fine
i have a 25 year old texas instruments scientific calculator that still works
but then sometimes their batteries would run out and they'd ask to use mine, which I usually "forgot" to bring
it is solar,no batteries:)
even better :-)
the ones that killed me where the take home exams, sounded so easy when the concept was presented to me, arrgggg
I did suggest that they could bring a slide rule as a backup but somehow no one ever took me up on that
yes, in my more advanced classes I usually gave take home exams, an hour was too short to really test what they could do
i still have my slide rule!!!
me too but I'd need to brush up on how to use it :-)
it is one of the tiangular ones the legth of a standard rular with a magnifying window and pointer
me too, high school was the last time i used it
triangular
and an upper and lower slide
damned if i can remember how to use it though!
I used mine through college and most of graduate school
thing has lots of teeny tiny numbers that are tough to see with my new tri-foclas lol
focals
Got 2 actually, the reed one alway worked better than than the plastic one, much smoother slide
I can still see teeny things best if I take off my glasses completely
i always wanted one of the euro round slide rules
mine is wood and ivory
and I still have its leather case
I like the old pix of nasa techs with slide rules and blackboards all about them
ever notice how the old nasa boys and girls used to always use the round slide rules?
just think, your digital watch has more ram than the computer they used then
ha, I remember paying $8000 for 8 kilobytes (not megabytes, and certainly not gigabytes) of memory back in the 1970s
yes, the got to the moon carrying something with less umph than a trash 80
in the early 70,s 1971 or 1972,my day used to work for xerox right when they were starting with photocopiers and i used to go in on saturdays with him and when the boss was not looking he would let me play tic-tak-toe on the $75,000.00 office main frame computer lol
dad*
little tiny green screens
in the 80's had a job as a comp room operator, was impressed when all of the millions of dollars of comp equipment in that cold room fit on a desk top, now much more than that fits into your pocket
the soundproofed rooms were always hot and all you could hear was the take up reels
Yes, they don't need special rooms or special cooling any more (unless you have a whole lot of servers or something)
and watching as you stepped over bundles of cable snaked across the floor
we had cables under false floors
our cables just had covers over it,so there was a hump to step over
tough choices, is a colour screen worth the price, it's all just flash really, is the extra screen space worth paying twice as much for a 15 inch monitor vs a 13 inch, lol
bed time for crossy, wish me luck tomorrow!
I had the fire department call me once in the middle of the night (I was on shift) to say they had an alarm and was there a fire; I asked where the alarm was coming from and they said under the floor. I said "get over here!!" No way was I telling them there wasn't any fire under the floor.
Night, crossy, and good luck! Will be thinking of you.
goddnight all and happy babbling..poink!
When we cracked the comp cases impressed me, inch wide copper ribbon wire to carry the dc current.
g'nite crossy
fireworks!
congrats sue
