The rest is immaterial, even if it is expensive material.
true
It might be earth's way of cutting me off of hard liquor :D
Aha. The earth is having a huge conniption fit everywhere. In fact, the world is going to hell in a handbasket.
So happy all's quiet for you, ARB :)
The quiet is eerie. I don't trustour government to come up with the right plan that could lead to a peaceful resolution of these complicated issues.
I hear that arb.. it's a total mess. there seems to be no give
Enuf politics. Let's find words.
Shalom, dear ARB.

nite, smom :)
nite, sammysmom.
nope, ending in a "d" it's a math term. otherwise it's Pavlovian.
Long time since I studied math and Pavlov.
I sub math from time to time. Have my HS's Alg II text on my nightstand.

Would put me to sleep very quickly.

I so concur!

I monkeyed it - dict. says it is an adverb
oops plus make my clue plural
won't take newby or newbie!
thanks, VMD and ARB. I suspected it resembled that next to last word.
I thought newbie was valid :(
It is a lovely musical sounding word, where the sound has absolutely nothing to do with the meaning
definitely doesn't sound like it's definition
nbt at last. nbs, too

Yeah.. well don't leak it to everyone.

Chain of stools?

good morning all
hiya, sprite!
hi rbud :) Long time no see, how have you been?
pretty well, can't complain - but sometimes I still do, lol
hehehe ok :)
cooee and g'day from me. {{hugs}} sprite, xoxox rbud
*hugs rose* Hello dear friend, how did you sleep last night and how did today go?
I think that's a line from a Joe Walsh song... "I can't complain but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far..."
good line!
hiya rose!
no sleep :-( and today body reacting to stress.
had a feeling that might be the case. Shall I send on some healing vibes to calm things down and help you sleep tonight?
and you, sprite?
that would be nice, thanx darling.
fussing over that top right S, it's all I need for nbt/nbs happiness
lawyer is on the move. he's gathering medical reports
rbud, plural of sa5/14
ty, I assumed it needed to be a plural of course, but wasn't getting there as yet
I slept ok, am fine :)
that's great sprite.
yay for the lawyer. He/she is gonna bury them alive.
He. Jeezzz I am slow this morning.
* giggle * no dear, you're just not fully awake yet.
should be, have been up since 7 am.
tomorrow, my friend comes, with her sister and her parents. They are gonna help us with a kind of spring cleaning... bit late in the year though, lol.
oh, nice sprite. better late than never, hun
indeed. It is a bit embarrassing we can't do it by ourselves, but it is wonderful they are so happy to help us out.
hun, sometimes we all need a helping hand.
ain't that the truth...
lol, funny to have un5/22 and nu6/27 in one grid
yeah, i had a giggle at that....
:D
and what i called gloves when i was very small...glub
I tried glub as well
i was most put out that it wasn't in the dictionary..;-P
give me a funny def and I put it in ours :)

thank goodness ruru isn't here....he would be making some dreadful remarks about a wet.....
lolol he is the best punner ever
*naughty rose*
wouldn't want you any other way
ah, the other version of the tigon, lol. Silly names.
i can't believe it. aldi supermarket has removed roald dahl's book revolting tales because of the use of the word slut. in response to a small section of the community. * sigh * and christians wonder why the greater part of the community deride them. talk about bible-bashing!!
oh my god... that is so sad. Some people really don't know what to do with their lifes, do they?
obviously they haven't anything better to do. for goodness sake!
snap, sister of my soul :)
lives*
oh, lolol
we have this little rhyme in dutch, that in translation would be something like: he who finds fault in mine, should go home and look at his. If he finds no faults there, he can talk about mine.
and out of the bible we are told to remove the beam/ log from our own eye before trying to remove the splinter from someone else's eye
yeah, that is a good one too. Jeezzz I have so much to still make right in my own life. I don't like very rude language, but if people need it, fine with me. And then 'slut'. Jeezz. Would 'unclean woman' have been acceptable? Or whatever the translation from the bible is, lol.
fireflies
WTG SPRITE!!! what's on your agenda today?
quite a lot, alas. Shopping groceries, cooking, preparing as much as I can for tomorrow, walking terra, taking a shower and washing my hair.
please pace yourself, dear. that's a lot to do.
yeah it is a bit too much. But can't be helped. Eile mit Weile, as our german neighbours say... hurry up with intervals :)
and tomorrow is going to be so busy for you too.
so, sweetie, I have to go. *hugs* and when you go to bed, try and relax and let those healing vibes flow over you. I have asked for a feeling of utter safety :)
yeah. Sunday is gonna be a b*tch and monday even worse. But worth it.
gentle hugs back at you
thanx dear

I work the afternoon session and am on call again. I had no calls last night so I slept well.
What is Contra?
morning all! can I have stats for the I?
How is Secondo doing? One of my patients also just started at UVM.
I imagine it will be like trying to issue a voice command to one of those IT support computers:(
that is so good to hear, scrabbler! my mom used to get beat up sometimes on call
Hi Dan
hello again
The older I get the more difficult it is to deal with being on call and sleep deprived.
Cortana* not contra
Hi MLFAN
hi scrabb
ig4--ice hut
I don't have the i yet, sorry dan
ty Scrabbs I always forget that alt spelling
can i get a clue for the el 6/21 please?
i had to get help for that ig word too
Think it will be more like HAL in 2001 a space odyssey lol
el + when you really know a language you are fl****
el6 is like an el8 word that means well-spoken, but take out two letters from the middle
or what scrabbs said
ty scrab
ed6 is a new word for me--adjective or adverb for rim or border
thanks again scrabs
really? i have heard that word, but you know, it's more in describing people. she looked around ed6 at the hulking fellow sitting near her in an otherwise empty subway car... something like that.
ty joseph
is preown a hyphenated word?
yes and usually pre-owned
thought so
hence why it ddnt work in the grid
and because pre-own would be mixing present tense and past tense. You either own it or you do not:)
interesting thought
True!
it would be pretty silly. did you pre-own that car before i bought it? sounds dumb.
language is a funny thing sometimes
especially English which has stolen words from many other languages
Like in medicine there is the term "pre-diabetes." If you don't have diabetes you don't have it.
okay i am out of here for now i have 96 left and have had nbt and nbs time to watch NFL poof
Bye, MLFAN
but there are actually like, things in your body that merit the description "pre-diabetes", right? also "pre-cancerous cells"?
the word i find funny today is bi5 - another adverb
well, you have precursors in medicine, I guess, scrabby. Indicators in blood and whatnot that if the current course of diet, and exercise remains unchanged the doctors can project it for your near future, like they did for my mrs
There are atypical cells that aren't actual cancer cells. But you can be at risk for diabetes and never get it. Just a pet peeve for me as a doc.
but I am just guessing
I think pre-diabetes is used to scare patients into changing their lifestyle. Maybe it works sometimes.
Perhaps. Got my beloved thinking:)
so, because of that I have been taking her hiking all this summer and she is down 20 pounds:)
(crossy is down 30 pounds or so:)
Yay! Fantastic accomplishments! I gained 10 lbs within 2 months after my concussion in March and have dropped 2 recently. It's so hard to lose weight.
oh i see, so the pre-diabetes is more like when politicians want to call poor people "pre-rich"
good one jj!
Yes!
*sneaks in*
Hi Ms Prefect.
Hi Scrabbler. Long time no see!
morning all. Scrabbler - prediabetes is one of the conditions Jeremy discussed in his book Prescribing By Numbers. I'm down here now and a copy of his new book is on the table. You'll love it. Generics - The Unbranding of Modern Medicine
Good morning, Dorens!
Good morning, Dorens!
Apparently I was excited to see you...
Morning Leigh.. How's Teaneck?
(I'm a very exciting person, obviously)
Is there a coffeeneck?
Is there a coffeeneck?
My father used to talk about moving to Coffeestomach
Lovely today. Although I'm sitting in a laboratory for the next two hours for some glucose testing. Not as fun. How are things over in your area?
i grew up there, did you know?
Interesting, Doren.
Did you? Whereabouts?
I think I'd prefer Teaneck to Coffeeneck. I can't stand coffee...
down in Baltimore right now. (I preordered it on Amazon Scrabs.... you have to see the blurbs... So impressive. Mukharjee, who wrote Emperor of All Maladies, said such incredibly nice things.
Weatherman: it is going to be cloudy today and slightly earl grey
Wonderful, Doren!

Sounds like awful weather, ru@
the sunset may be more orange pekoe
Milford Terrace, leigh. (down by River Road and West Englewood Ave.) parents moved to Vandelinda when I was in college... nicer neighborhood, but not really home to me

Everyone in Teaneck constantly comments
I know exactly where that is. We're right off Cedar Lane and River Road.
Lol!!
and nobody's chai about loving tea
I heard a lot of old bags live in Teaneck
Molly - Incidentally, that's totally true. My last neighbors were batcases.
Ha
I hear the rent is steep too
no more tea bag jokes please!
All breakfasts are English
Also true, Molly. But that's this whoe area.
no, some are also Irish
Well, I won't comment on it being a whoe area : D
Teabagging in Teaneck is against the law saanich
hahaha
and if you want to get there, it doesn't take oolong
uh-huh
Doren, your son needs to write a book on the language of medicine, and the euphemisms..pre-diabetes, pre-cancer, reactive airways disease (instead of saying asthma)...
Good one jj
the favorite pet name is dar(jee)ling
morning ru
How is pudge not a word?
In Teaneck everyone leafs each other alone
Hiya saan
Glub isn't a word either, I was disappointed
Traffic in the mornings makes for oolong commute.

Kids in highschool get in trouble for teanecking
How are you ru, recovering?
Oh lord. Two horses escaped a home in Morristown and found their way onto 287 this morning, dorens. Not a good scene. One of them was hit.
that's sad
ah, that would be nice Scrabs~~his thing is The History of Medicine... I will suggest it to him tonight
It is a lot better bichon thanks
My son in San Mateo slept through it
Were the horses checking out the neigh-borhood
It wasn't a big deal on the Peninsula
that is so sad Leigh.. And I was on 287 S just yesterday.
who was it that wanted pudge? try adverb
wonder how the horses turned the door knob on the front door of the house?
This time. You never know

Hello, Bich
hi,bich. how are you today?
just sparkling. Perfect weather
Nice to see you, bich
and how are you TO? toe healed?
hi jaxx
Cloudy and miserable here today. Another hurricane using its leftovers to muck up our weather.
got the op 7/8
Sorry to hear that jaxx. We could use some rain.
bich, i don't think I had the chance to offer my condolences.
thanks very much TO.
most times i play and go without chat.
She was very old and very sick. I alm relieved that she is no longer suffering
We could do with some sunshine. Perhaps we could arrange a swap, what do you think?
i think you are right, jaxx.we need rain
Then of course, if we had rain, the fluffies wouldn't go outside.
have you lost your mum, Bich?
Yes, last week. It's so hard to believe that I've reached a stage in my life when I am parentless
that is quite a shock,bich.
Mums leave a big hole, bich. Mine died in 2009 and I still go to call her. I am so sorry that you are an orphan. It makes you feel more mortal somehow.
A good number of people at my age, 68, are parentless. Something they don't tell you in the owners manual
i am wishing for an e ad t adjacent for this grid...
I am the same age, bich. My mum had her children late in life. It is the rock again. At first it stops you going forward but gradually it moves to one side and you can go on. The time it takes to clear the road differs from person to person.
nice metaphor, jaxx.
My mother-in-law, the same age, is still going strong. I hope she gets really old
The humanist at Tim's funeral came up with it but it is appropriate and so true.
my exmil died at 44. it was the beginning of the end of the marriage;he could not co4/
so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, Bichon . . . lost mine 3 years ago and think of her every day . . .
I keep thinking of all the little things she did for me
Thanks Une.
My sister's first marriage lasted a month because her husband was a mother's boy. When he left he took his mother's wedding present with him - a lifesize pair of pottery cheetahs - and left all his money and keys behind!
sheesh jaxx
wow . . .
Even better he came back after a month because his mother told him to, having consulted a lawyer. Silly fool told my sister that his mother had sent him back. I leave the rest to your imaginations
good lord
my imagination is working overtime
He was in his late thirties and didn't have a front door key so mummy would know when he got back home.
aaacckkk!! LOL
*pops head in door*
So your sister threw him out?

Hi jaxx. How's things with you?
Just in time for my free word, lol
Trust me! My trademark, a nonword this time.
My free word brings chrissie as if by magic. Hi Chrissie.
I must admit This SS business is getting me down. I cancelled my lunch date with Debbie. We go out once a month. I just couldn't summon up the energy.
We're at my son's in Rugby for the w/e. 125 mike journey took 8 hours!!!
Haven't cauught up with you for about a week. Last time we spoke you were making progress.
The SW keeps ringing, asking leading questions and then not turning up. I am still trying to clear the clutter. The local charity shop shelves must be bending.
mile journey - don't know what mike's git to do with it :)
Who is mike's git?
Errr mike is not a git
Your typing is as good as my cursor moving! lol
Have had a brandy (or two) to get over the journey. Seems to have gone to my fingers :D
I'm always on an ipad, which doesn't help
I find when typing under the influence my vocabulary goes upmarket.
Are you keeping a log of the sw's actions?
Maybe I just need anither drink
No. Suppose I should, eh?
I would indulge but we are in enough trouble with alcohol as it is.
I recommend you do.
Good idea. They want separate chronologies from us (so they can catch us out?) I should return the favour.
They have decided that Norton does not need protection, only support. Jess' dad refused to dish the dirt on Julie and said he wouldn't be coming to any meetings.
Yes. When dealing with any beaurocracy or large, company it't best to make a record of every contact, names, times etc
What about Ash?
Norton's mother wanted to know why, if Norton does not need protection, why do they think Jerss does. They are the same age, in the same house.
Jess even
Do they have different sw's?
Ash is making the best of it but he breaks down and cries with huge tears at night when he should be asleep. I have slept with him for the past few days or he doesn't setle at all. he won't let me give him a cuddle or hold his hand as 'I am more mature now@ - at 9 years of age.
Hugs jaxx. I am so sorry this is still going on for you. It is always a terrible stress on everyone involved because everyone starts doubting everything.
My typing is going to pot.
No, one SW fits all.
Sorry jaxx, that must be brandy by proxy ;)
Thanks, bug. I am sure they are upsetting Ash more than his mother's poor behaviour.
That's so sad, must break your heart not to be able to comfort him
We have some Courvosier downstairs. I will get some later. I am hoping to carry on with my Aran knitting. That is complicated enough without adding alcohol.
I am positive of it. Even if his mother is not able to care for him properly right now, it doesn't mean that she does not love him intensely and his love for her doesn't need to be questioned. I used to foster kids and always had fear of the SW who seemed to be trying to destroy family units rather than offer the kind of help that is needed.
Going to join my daughter and d-i-l now. Might catch you later jaxx. If not (((hugs))) take care x
I am finding this very hard myself but I am not 9 years old.
Aran knitting is much better than alcohol to focus your mind on something else!
Enjoy the rest of your evening chrissie
Waves to Chrissie
I find complicated patterns take my mind off it all.
I often do picture puzzles when I don't hve a a knitting project on the go for the same reason. It is a very healthy coping mechanism.
fair Isle is another good mind occupier
I have been clearing away the clutter at Royal command and the amount of wool packs I have found will last me until forever
I am never happy with my work on that. I find it hard to keep the tension consistant with so many threads
You need shuttles, bug, they hang down the back and are easier to deal with than anything else I have found.
Clearing the clutter is another good way of putting order to things when you are feeling overwhelmed. I find that when my surroundings get cluttered it means my mind is not calm either. Decluttering will make the SW happy and your minds happy as well.
I have never seen shuttles or how they are used. I will add that to my list of reasons why I need to come over the pond to meet more friendly Babblers there. You can be my tutor.
The recycling centre is full of my clutter and the local charity shop. I have found family history treasures in the form of photos and autograph albums. It keeps stopping me from finishing as I get all nostalgic.
Keep the treasures and allow the other stuff to be useful in other homes. There is nothing better than old photos or letters. They show how much of a bond your family has.
Sharing them with Ashley and telling him the stories of his past may provide another kind of comfort and strength that we never thought of.
Bug, there is an American site called Love Knitting and another called Knitting daily. they provide free patterns and all sorts of knitting paraphenalia. they will show you what shuttles look like.
just looked there. It will be really helpful to me I think.
he did meet his great grandma and his great nan as both ladies lived well into their nineties. My Aunt is still going at 92 and he's also met her.
What are DK and fingering weight yarns?
I am currently fascinated with the show You Do You Think You Are in which people finds ancestors and start to see patterns in behaviour that indicates what values run strong in your family.
Double Knit is usually knitted with 4mm needles. I am not up with American sizes. Fingering is what we call 4 ply. Thinner than DK and usually knitted with 3mm needles and 3.25 mm needles. Good yarn for socks.
He might discover he comes from a long line of people who have faced adversity and were never destroyed. My kids know they come from a long line of readers, teachers and story-tellers who have been accepting of people with disabilities or racial differences long before it was fashionable.
I am afraid that my ancestors were mainly rogues, vagabonds and Vikings. Not the best role models.
Some were even transported. I have been researching my family tree for about 7 years. Like you I was inspired by WDYTYA.
OK then!It doesn't get any better than rogues, vagabonds and Vikings for people who know how to adapt and make unpleasant situations work to their advantage! They are the exact role models you need right now.
They are born survivors! They get knocked down but they get up again as the song says.
I married a man with Viking ancestry. He is the most gentle soul like the rest of his family but they are all able to solve problems others give up on.
I have gone back to my 38th great grandfather, a man called Eystein the Filth, The F***. Clearly hygiend wasn't his thing. lol
How many generations back did you find? Or probably more telling is, to what year have you been succesful. I traced my first husband's family (for our kids) back to Devon in the 1700s
hygiene even - amd I haven't touched a drop yet
I love his name! but can't decipher the F***
You must be able to read Latin to get that far back. That is amazing!
930 something. As my husband is Devonian, your children and he might be related.

They are Clodes
I hate to gedup in the morning.
Wouldn't that be something if they are/
I had a Susan Clode in my class at Grammar School. A real local family.
My husband had a sister Susan Clode, short for Susannah.
Kaplan, I tried that too!
lol and hi, kaplan
Hi. Long time no talk to.
I now I have been quiet a lot lately but I have not seen you here. I hope all is well for you Kaplan
I have been here but not talking.
All is well.
Glad to hear it.
satur
I don't remember her name being Susannah. She might be related though. I am going to the old Grammarian Society's 90th anniversary lunch at the end of September. I will see if she turns up and I will ask her. Small world isn't it?
oops, Shutting up now
That ole debil love.
change the u for a sometimes vowel.
I don't think you are taking this seriously Kap.
that is what I was trying to do jaxx. LOL
And pl, bugs
Thanks for the encouragement and the chat. It isn't anything you said Kap, I am off to rest my eyes. bbl
I would have to look at the stuff to see which ancestors could be common to both families. She may not know the names of her ancestors.
Hello babbleworld! *happy Friday dance*
Have a lovely rest jaxx. Things are always easier to deal with after a good rest.

Jilly, Harp emailed me a couple of weeks ago, to say she was in town. I replied to her, but I heard nothing from her since then. I hope she packed her winter woolies, cos it's darn cold her right now...
Hey Worzel. :-)
Hmm, she has internet access as she has been posting on FB. Maybe she realized she wasn't going to have the time. And, recall, we all are hardy stock and used to cold weather here in Montana!
LOL Jilly! 'Hardy Stock'.... Definitely of Irish extraction!
Makes me thing of how my grandfather described his cows....
Especially the Irish that came to the mines in Butte. Famous saying; "Colder than a miners ass in Butte in February".
Keep thinking gullible must be in grid...
LOL. KI
I met a chap today...who was utterly devoid of personality. He was described to me as being 'so dry, he would fart dust'. An apt description if ever I heard one...

Hello peri, I think you were my muse, I have nary a bingo in scrabble since we quit playing!

My toes yearn to escape reality. As does the rest of me....

you are good Jilly
Peri, I saw on FB you donated blood. I gave my 50th pint last Spring... It didn't take a feather out of me, but I sure felt great for doing it. Seriously, blood donating is the cheapest feel-good inducing activity ever! (Plus - I suffer from insomnia, after a blood donation, I sleep like a baby). Win/win
it was a very positive experience.
the last time I donated blood two years ago. the tech squeezed the blood pressure cuff while I was donating blood. ergo, I had excessive bruising. I reported this to the Red Cross.
But I also called the Red Cross this week and told them how well everything went this time
The only downside of donating is the length of time it takes
There are so many forms that you keep having to fill out and verify
Fair play! Credit where credit was due, and feedback where it was needed. Well done.
I spent a very short time there. I asked if the process had been shortened but they said now. the actual donation part only took about 12 minutes. I was amazed. it usually takes much longer. this tech was very efficient and fast
Indeed, Soodle, I do complain but I do praise as well. They appreciated my phone call and that was good.
I received a blood transfusion in 1978, which saved my life. I have been passionate about donating ever since.
I will do it as long as I am able to
hats off to you two. I am very irregular with it.
the donation place was a church two blocks from me so it was very convenient
Here it takes about 3 hours, even when you make a reservation because they take walk-ins at the same time so the reservations get bumped back.
We have a donation at our hospital once a quarter. I can't donate as I am on a blood thinner. *sigh* Used to do it regularily before.
I was a walk in
I was there maybe an hour all together. it was great
I like walkins because they discover how easy it is but I would like to have 2 stream or more beds.
I must wander off to do something useful. I still have too many left for now. Happy Babbling everyone
Alas, I must leave the chog as well. have 93 left...bbl *poof*
Bye Bugs & Jilly. See you both soon. :-)

What's happening now. Who is killing who?
the usual. and who may kill who.=,lots of buzz about natioals joiing the holy war, so called.
Our Government has just realised they have to do something about the Brits fighting with IS. Took them long enough. Do you think politicians live in the same world as the rest of us?
yes and no. but what can they do except id them and refuder reentry?
That would help. They are likely to return and cause havoc here.

WTG FLOSEY
and thanks for all the help
np's flosey. glad to help
Had a nice long lunch with my brother today - and a long visit - about 6 hours
tomorrow we go to visit my other son and family
how lovely, flosey. was the weather good? did you eat al fresco?
it has been lovely, Rose - haven't had a hot day since arriving last Wednesday
al fresco?
oh, nice. it's so much better when you don't have to deal with extremes of temperature. al fresco, in the open air
no, went to a fav of his, Swiss Chalet, chicken
near here, so easy
ahhhh, my favourite food...chicken
he isn't coming back WITH me but has promised to come out after I get home
flosey, nearly all my tulip bulbs have sprung up. i can't wait for them to flower.
how long since he visited with you at your home?
wow, lovely rose, sounds strange here, tulip season is in the Spring
lolol....i think the real message here is that i haven't killed them.
have to think back, he came while he and new wife were honeymooning - not being at home, can't check to see how long ago - several years
he is on his own again, after first wife died, he met up again with an old HS sweetheart, married and had a few wonderful years, and she died, so is on his own again and lonely
i am thinking a bit has changed since he saw your home then?
probably, rose
oh, the poor man....that is rough.
and he's such a sweetie
is he looking after himself properly?
yes, he does take good care of himself - even learned how to prepare decent meals
wow, good for him. that's not easy when you are starting over again.
so true - at this age especially, he must have been around 75 +/- when second wife died
flosey, i have to go for a bit. i need food as i have meds to take. will you be here at the flip?
no rose, it flips here at 1: am hope I"ll be sleeping by then, perhaps see you tomorrow
enjoy your dinner, I'm off to find a bite to eat before going to bed
that will be nice, dear. hope you sleep well.
thanks rose, bye for now
any hints for the 2nd re 6/27?
Apply adhesive again ..
not seeing it but thanks anyway
