I had to start a round of prednisone; today was my last high dose day - 1st time in months I had 4 hours consecutively with no pain - ran 3 hours of errands by myself... you would have thought I had won a million bucks.. I know it's short-lived, but it was sure nice to have that freedom and be able to actually finish things on my to do list. So I know how you feel, rose.

I reckon the difficulty/easiness of a grid depends entirely on the way your brain works. Theres probably a thesis or so to be done on it. I've struggled like crazy in the past on grid taht everyone says are easyt, and then whizzed thru others that people say are hard in a few mins.

our kids just finished their second full week of school

was in special education for many years - starting with the severe and profound, deaf and hearing impaired, LD, mentally impaired, and finally gifted
wow.
ABA is Applied Behavior Analysis....I think Skinner started it. It's like any other approach - it works for who it works for
enjoyed each one while i was doing it
in college actually met Skinner and was trained in Skinnerian psychology
Its a good approach for my Down's student - a lot of repetition, which she REALLY needs.
in college we used pigeon for the first year and then worked in the child study center

i was never a part of the union here - they were not supportive at all of the concerns of special ed - and i had no respect for their leadership
I don't go to the meetings and stuff. But I had to join, so I did. Some of the women in the school cling to the union rules like you would not believe and its a right pain in me arse. I like to leave every day with a tidy desk. If this keeps me past our dismissal time, then so be it. But they HATE IT when I stay there late....what is that to them?
... they're argument is if there isn't enough time to get the work done in the regular hours and then you stay for free that you're taking a job away from someone else ... ... don't necessarily buy it .. but that's the argument

That is one of the things I like least about working in a school - NO privacy, no where to take a breather
some people justy work at a differnt pace and want to do their own thing in their own way - i don't want a union to tell me what i should do on my job
i would close my door and eat lunch in my room so as not to go to the Teachers Lounge
... it's the nature of the work ... you can't take a breather because there's some kid who needs your help at every moment ... the moment that you pause will be the moment that disaster strikes ... that's one cause of so much burn out

I am also disappointed in how often the students lose out to union rules. Example: My student really needs someone to walk her off the van every day, and lead her to homeroom. But my contract doesn't allow me to start before 7:25 each day, so they WILL NOT allow me to walk her to homeroom, which starts at 7:15. I think that is ridiculous. What difference could the 10 minutes actually make? I want to help my student, and work with her consistently. It's so stupid

... that's the problem with rules ... they're supposed to be the best practice but if the environment changes you're stuck with the old rules unless everyone agrees to change them ... starting at 7:30 makes sense when the bus doesn't arrive until 7:40 ... but when the bus driver starts arriving at 7:20 you've got to change the rule and that means bargaining and somebody has to pay ... and if it's not the parents or the board or the workers ... itis going to be the kids
