Army weapon, ishult - 1st WW
Perhaps WW2 - not so up on guns!
looked for that earlier.....didn't see it...!!! ty
It is there!
19 left.... need to get back to work....bye
Have a good day
OK so now I know - in case any experts are lurking - WW2 and not a gun!
{{hugs}} liz girl.
Plenty of them in WW 1!
Good night all, and good luck - this one is sneaky.
Hi all
xoxox liz
Hugs, rose. How are things with you?
good thanx dear. and you?
Also good - over exercised today!
So tired!
will you be able to sleep?
If I don't fall asleep watching Peaky Blinders tonight!
I'll have to get hubby to shake me if I fall asleep!
poor you, liz.
I'll be fine! Will you watch Melbourne Cup tomorrow?
haven't made up my mind yet. don and i usually remember too late.
Not that bothered here. Have been to a couple of "dos" but not this year.
when we were working, we would have a sweep at work. but never do we have a flutter.
Same here - only very rarely buy lotto ticket either.
sprite's internet is back up. she loved the pics.
Glad to hear that. She also e mailed me. The pics were great. So good to see what's happening and like I said .....those roses!
the drawer thingy under the washer brings the door up to the exact height of my wash basket in it's trolley. it's great.
That must make life much easier. I was surprised that you have a front loader! Very English!
it uses less water. although the way i used the top loader our water usage didn't change that much.
Mine is also front loader - brought it with from England. Happy to find out that I'm being Eco friendly!
our water usage dropped after the MIL died, and dropped even further when we installed our new loo.
That's good. Ours usage is pretty good but we had to refill the pool cos it cracked! Got it repaired and now it's cracked again cos it's so dry. Waiting til next winter before we repair again.
ugh, that's not good liz. is it because it is so dry and the earth is shrinking from under it?
Yes :(
Have got a temporary repair that hubby did, so we'll still be able to use it this summer.
we've noticed that during the dry summer months our stumps groan against the bearers under the floor. the soil shrinks away from the stumps, and the move a little.
Summer should be our wet season but had hardly any rain since the cyclone in Jan 13.
BBL Hugs, Rose :)
see you, liz. {{hugs}}
got un6/24 & in6/24.......what's the 3rd 6 ? plz

Good morning, laundry day again.
g'day sukee
did mine today. all dried in the beautiful sunshine. * bliss *
Nice
apon
i love the smell of sunshine on the bed linen
Well, I have to do with a dryer :)
in winter so do i.
poopy small grid!
((rosie}}
Hi Ruby
{{sukee}}
{{hugs}} ruby
and hugs to whomever I didn't see
Great start to day, Tassimo gave me a bum capsule and there were grains all over and a leaky coffee maker.
Settling for instant.
i'll have another if you don't mind, ruby
settling
I bought a front-loader, too, like to watch the suds
anyway, time to put laundry in.
In the dryer :)
come back soon, sukee
I do laundry a little at a time, almost every day, but use a dryer, there is no way I could hang out clothes
bye sukee
now I'll look at the grid
ruby, did you see my pics?
yes, thank you, I love your roses! Did I ever send you my garden pix?
dogs and garden make it possible to survive
no, i don't think so. would love to see them
if I can just figure out how to send them.....
contractor is coming in a minute to give me an estimate on replacing the tired wallpaper and paint etc.
see you later, kids
hope your day is good, ruby. hugs and kisses
ty By the time you arrive the house should be looking spiffy again
it sounds lovely, ruby. when you decide what you are doing, please let me in on the know. i love talking home reno's.
We did all the big stuff before we moved in (we were still in Miami). Now it is just repairing cracked ceilings, dirty wallpaper, chipped paint, faded shutters. It is, after all, 15 years!
I re-designed the whole interior, tore out walls, added windows and fireplaces, enclosed them after I realized that all the heat was going upthe chimney.
Unfortunately, the in-floor heating system short-circuited, so the house is very cold
It's a lovely house; I am very lcky. And the kitchen is a beautiful dream, just ask Sprite!
lucky*
And since there was no garden beyond some shrubbery, I was able to design that, too
hun, dinner ready. maybe catch you later.
It is all very soft, much more an English garden than a French one
bye
Laundry in the dryer, had me shower, we are good :)
yay you sukee. my tummy is sooo full. my butcher makes to most delicious chicken kievs.
Nice, have to decide what to have for breakfast
good morning everyone
g'day crossy
((rose))
Hi there.I have the BA 7 what are the stats for the other 7 please?
ap7/36
Thank you.
howdy,zooz
Any chance of a clue please. Not seeing it?
Hello, Croosy :-)
Crossy*..Sorry :-)
:) call me anything you like, just do not call me late for breakfast:)
lol
NM found it with morewords :-)
Just one U, one Y and one i words to find!
you is cruising zooz
lol sure am, Rose :-)
mmm.. I am sensing a babble-filled, pointy fanged little grid here;(
babblet*
Yes I have found a few of those, Crossy :-)
I have IN 5/10; IN4/8. Other stat please?
in6/24, zooz
Thank you, rose :-)
Found it! Thanks again :-)
np's zooz.
Just the Y left.
And I am done! time for my reward of a nice hot cup of tea and a choccy bar :-)
WTG ZOOZZOOM!!!!
yaaa for zooz!!
Thank you babble friends!
enjoy that cuppa, zooz
Oh I will :-)
<---- Loves his tea :-)
as does crossy:)
which is your favourite brew, guys?
Sorry to be common, Rose. Just normal tea bag version for me. All I can afford..lol
Ceylon orange pekoe. brewed strong enough that I must arm-wrestle it for the tea-spoon
I have tried darjeeling, Ceylon , Earl grey. but not too fussed.
*giggle* crossy. and no milk or sugar, right?
LOL lve your description, Crossy!
nope, I take a spoon of sugar and a drop of milk
i like earl grey, lady jane, but lately have fallen in love with green tea. i found the tea leaves at my supermarket.
served in a big porcelain coffee mug so I can get my bear paws into the handle... none of those wimpy tea-cups for me!
Not used the leaf version for many many years. Not owned a tea-strainer for decades either..lol
I like to use a mug, Crossy.
oh, yeah, crossy. it just has to be fine china doesn't it? they had these ugly thick mugs at work....took all the enjoyment out of a cuppa.
I have a old silver tea ball round here somewhere
Don't forget to put your little oinky out, Rose..LOL
Pinky*
Hi again here for about 15 mins.
Hello, Sukee :-)
i like oinky...somehow seems suitable....lol
I like Tetley tea :)
I do not care what it is served in. In the fishing camp in the bush I used to brew it three bags at a time in a small aluminium cooking pot and just leave the bags in with the tags dangling over the side and drink a pint or two that way:)
howdy, sukee
roflol, crossy
could i have a clue for the ap7 pls
im having a sightless day today...sigh
Good gosh, Croosy..Crossy is a tea-a-holic..lol
bush tea..mmm. So fine after coming in from being out in the woods all day and chilled to the bone
ah, goodie, himself has turned the tv off. and i am finally yawning. bed is made up with fresh linen...
crossy, do you put gum leaves in your bush tea?
nothing like the first night with fresh sheets
ahh, no, no gum leaves:)
do not even know what gum leaves are tbh
Hoping, Rose will give, Rolin the AP 7 clue as I am not sure I could give a good clue.
ap7,, ap + most of not young + french for the number one
crossy, there are no eucalypts over there?
Ty Rose
ty rose
no, none of this side of the big pond
just in aromatic oils for massages and such
I have the key for finding words today, monkey, monkey, monkey
and we love our Vick chest rub in the winter of course
I love the smell of Vicks
my monkey just died from exhaustion
My key to finding the words in the grid today was my little tiny brain and my fingers :-)
I may jusy let the cat wander back and forth across the keyboard and see how he makes out with this grid:)
Good idea.
LOL I like that one, Crossy!
oh dear crossy...that desperate are you?
so, if you see less spelling errors than usual, it is the cat and not I:)
Well, got all the 4 letter words
ty rose
Right time for me to get on with the day. Nice to chat to you all.Have a lovely day and night.Toodle pips all.
np's rolin. glad to help
tc zooz
bye dear zooz. xoxox
five more minutes for me and then I shall have to hit the shower and hose down this mass of muscle;)
So glad it's light when I am going out.
soon enough it will be dark still at 8 am and dark again at 5 pm
goodnight everyone. see you at the flip. xoxox
I know...
night Rose
I have to run too, take care all.
good afternoon all
hi sprite! gm everyone
good morning dawg :)
((sprite))
howdy lbd
*hugs crossy* How are you and the mrs?
We are both fine. She has her ultrasound today and we shall see what we shall see.
positive vibes to you both, crossy
hi, crossy
cool, blustery, dreary and overcast morning today:( about 2c and you can almost taste the snow waiting to fall
brrrrrr it is less cold here. But you can feel the sharpness of fall.
it comes on fast; a mere 8 weeks or so and it will be minus 20- minus 30c out there
lol my husband would hate it there
To live here with serenity, you must find the joy in every season.:)
well that is the same here, lol
snow down to 4000 ft here. just barely above where I live. the park is beautifully blanketed in white.
I snowshoe and ride the snowmobile trails. The slow cooker never stops as it makes all kinds of home-made soups and stews and chicken and dumplings. All kinds of warm stick-to-your-ribs comfort food after a day out in the snow
sounds good, dawg
I want a slow cooker
I cannot live without mine. i even have a spare in case this one ever fails me.
the pulled pork turned out nice yesterday
love my slow cooker, just need more ideas in using it.
did you get my pulled pork recipe, lbd?
My phantom today - banana (a phantom banana - eaten by a ghostly monkey_
hi matty, and lol
I have lots of recipes, but you know you go brain dead after the first month or so of slow cooking. i'd like to try some desserts in it
which fits , since there is naught left of my monkey but a ghost since it died of overwork on this evil little grid
might buy myself one... do they come in different sizes?
right now I am stockpiling soups and stews with my cooker. I will make 5 different kinds of soups and 3 different stews. i freeze them in single-serve containers to be taken out at need
ty do, sprite. get the oval ones and not the round ones; things just seem to fit better in the oval ones
lots of different sizes, sprite.
and always buy one size large than you think you need
good, I would need a big one. Two big eaters in our family.
larger
my oval cooker holds 8 cups of water with an inch to spare and makes 8 servings
give or take
i have a round one and an oval one, both at least 5 quarts. I want a tiny one for melting stuff. i think it might be a two cup.
small ones might be good for cheese or chocolate sauces
and definitely removable crocks!
glass cover not plastic.
mine is removable. It is a must
reading over the chog, in my "salad days" I used to make a poor man's cassoulet in my slow cooker
i had one that the crock wasn't removable. what a pain to clean it!
and yes, a glass lid
ok, am writing it down here
my round one is that way and is the main reason it sits as a spare
used hot dogs, fatback and pork chops instead of duck confit etc
and dry white beans, tomato paste, beer and thyme
hi ruby, crossy, sprite, dawg
hi bichon
hi ruby, hi bichon
hi ibd
slow cookers, fall go together
I wonder if they have them here
Ruby, I've had that poor man's cassoulet with sausage, not hot dogs, and it is very good.
hi ruby and bichon :D
sausage sounds good and there are many different kinds here
hi sprite
howdy, Bichon
{{crossy}}
hello molly
((ruby))
hi Molly
morning, Molly
fireflies. Tricky little grid
one more soup them I think chicken and dumplings is next(crossy cheats and uses bisquick)
"worse than tricky"
crossy, if we buy one, can I pester you for some recipes? Esp soups? I love good soups.
I've only recently discovered the wonderful world of the slow cooker...mine holds 8 qts. and I can fit a whole chicken or a roast in there plus veggies. It is wonderful.
indeed you can, sprite:)
I want those, too, crossy!
8 quarts is a nice large one!
When I was still doing Indian cooking I used Bisquick for making gulab jaman
hi mimi
awesome :D Thanks crossy. Bye all, have a blessed day and a peaceful night. And crossy, wish Elegant good luck from me. *hug*
You must be some cook ruby
my old cooker was electric. Are they still?
and of course they are perfect for pot roasts
tc (9sprite))
Back in the day, bichon, not any more
mine is electric. I do not own a dutch oven
hagd, Sprite 1
hah, I couldn't think of Dutch oven.....even with Sprite on board
I am on a very low carb diet, so I haven't been cooking much
i have two dutch ovens. there are just some things I have to make on the stove or in the oven and the dutch oven is perfect for them.
My specialty with recipes now is I create ones that are easy, don't have too many ingredients, and are good left over.
If I was just cooking for me, I would just eat eggs
mmm... crossy loves eggies
Ruby, one of my favorite breakfasts now is to hard boil eggs and then put tomato paste and sea salt on them. Simple and really good.
I just realized that I do slow cooking, especially Burt's Spicy Chicken. Very simple and he eats it for days
simple is always an option! and good leftovers are a plus!
simple is best:)
I like to fry white bread (without crusts) in butter and then put an egg yolk for the final flip
my two breakfasts are quinoa or soft boiled eggs
when we were kids my mum used to fry bread like that in bacon drippings
That's my midnight snack but the dogs fight me for it
(I read quinoa) as quince at first, scratching head
lol, naughty puppies
they know what's good
Gotta go get my work entered...worked from 4am until 4pm yesterday and now must enter all those reports (64) into the facility's system...about 3 hours of work. HAGD, all and hugs.
help with the ap7 please?
CYou probably not familiar with it as it comes from either Ecuador or Peru and is a Native American root that comes in tiny little balls like couscous. It is a comple protein and is low in carb
wow! burning the candle at both ends there mimi!
I actually first had quinoa in a Peruvian resto in Annecy, of all places
$$$$ :)
I usually try to flavor it when it is cooked
I really like it, but don't know what to do with it at home
remember, we do not want to bury you in a golden coffin. take time for mimi as well:)
with what, bichon? Mine is always too bland
in 6, pls
Since I am diabetic I use Splenda, and some Smart balance
Once I get these entered, I'll be off until tomorrow afternoon. Have my first dr. appt. tomorrow morning to finally get my hormone straightened out and begin a weight loss program.
in + not a child but and a****
hormones...yes, there are more than one!
ty dawg
ty lbd
I've never had it sweetened. Hmm, raisins and cram, maybe?
ty ibd
cream even
Once you start adding a lot it, it ups the calores. I've lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks without feeling hungry.
that's a fast weight loss! congrats
I try to limit carbs to a small portion with dinner
It's basically the Atkins diet
anapen isn't accepted :(
Do you replace white potatoes with sweets? I think they have fewer carbs
But I can have unlimited veggies, limited fruits, and lots of protein
tadone!
No, I just have a very small portion of carbs with dinner. No sweets as sugar is carbs
sweet potatoes, I meant
see you later, kids
i am going to start the HGC diet, any words of wisdom?
Sue...that's exactly what I'm going on!
I might have 1/4 of a potato [either kind, half a cup of pasta or brown rice.
What is the HCGC diet
My husband did the South Beach diet (I, of course, did the cooking and chopping) and lost 40 lbs and kept it off
I am also wanting to start a blog...
It's a VERY restricted diet but you lose fast with the aid of the HCG.
What is the Soth Beach diet. The appeal of low carb is it is very good for diabetics
I "invented" a multi-vegetable, egg-white scrambled egg dish which he loved
Many vegetables and lots of met -- similar to Atkins, I think, but better balanced
Of course I ran this by my doctor
Bichon, it's a 500-calorie a day diet with only certain foods allowed and they give you either shots or pills of the HCG which, as I understand it, is basically human growth hormone. Must be done with a doctor, of course.
Too man vegetables to suit me, however
many*
that sounds too extreme, Mimi
I can eat unlimited veggies and fruit.
I wouldn't mess with hormones.....enough trouble with hormone-fed cancer
you're lucky that you like both, bichon
I also try to get physical activity
I know, ruby, but it can't be worse than keeping the weight on and I've tried everything else. First I'm getting all my hormones tested because my cardiologist is convinced that's why I can't lose weight and why I put it on in the first place. I'm not a bad eater at all and don't have issues with portion control...never had a weight problem before.
The South Beach diet was started by DH's Miami cardiologist
*woof*
Gone for real now.
how about a blog?
clue for an 6
I am very leery of super low calorie diets like HCG. I've read a good bit about this "crash diet" and it can cause some serious side effects. The old adage "eat less and exercise more" seems to be the safer way to go.
Hello all. Also looking for clue for an6, please?
so easy, an**** can do it!!
compound word, an6. can an6 find the answer?
ty :)
and I'm off for a while. hagd/n...ttfn

Yay, Biltong. Now go enjoy the day.
ty :) Anyone need any clues before I head off?
We appreciate them, Une, and ask about historical events, especially their parents' lives in Italy before they came to the US.
clue for ba7?
That is great Scrabs. We can learn so much from our elders.
very cool, scrabs .. .
ba7 - a weapon attached to a gun
tx!
I wish I had learned more from my grandparents long ago, but I didn't value their knowledge when I was young, plus they never spoke more than a few basic words of English. The area they settled in was all Italian immigrants.
yw :)
my uncle in the pic was shot down in the Battle of the Bulge but would never talk about it
Good morning, cousin Earth. Are you here?
Traumatic memories, Une.
i know a lot about my mom's family but almost nothing about my dad's
Same with me.
Bye all, happy babbling.

I know you prefer to lurk, Earth, but I saw that you were online. Yes, I rescued Remy from certain death as his owner couldn't be bothered with him and was going to release him into the wild.
scrabs do you and earth have lots of fresh snow??
hello everyone. I don't usually chat but my cousin likes to pull me in
glad you've joined us this morning :-)

Hi Scrabbs and cousin Earth...scrabbs, glad you have another bunny
washer stopped. hoping for a better day,, i cannot stand the confinement. i on't know what i will o in winter, i think it is just that col came on so fast, with wind.
I am happy I learned about him and rescued him. He is a snuggly, mellow boy.
he is huge.
I haven't found a word in 10 minutes.
hi Owl
rabbits rebon easily, i take it
No, Owl, I bet he is just 3- 3.5 lbs
he lookd huge. that sounds big for a rabbit.
Tucker, who died 1 wk ago, weighed almost 9 lbs.
they take to new homes readily
If they are loved and not overstimulated. I pick Remy up 3-4 times
daily, since Saturday, to get him used to me, and keep him in a cage to make sure he uses the litter box. Soon I will free him up in a bedroom.'
so how many o you have now
Three. Gandalf will be 12 in April and Gulliver is about 5
and now you have Remy..male or female
I have a patient (my 8:30) but must get a nurse to bring him back to a room. Chaos here always.
Remy is a boy.
Fireworks at last. THat in6/24 drove me nuts
congrats earth!!!!
clue for that in 6 /24 please
IN + most of the word for when you are not a child anymore.
hi zooz and thanks
Normally has AD infront of it.
Hello, Annie :-) you are welcome.
Congrats, Earth.
It was a new word for me.
Odd word, TY for clue.
BBS. The nurse assigned to me today is OFF so no one brought my patient back.
Got to start my day. See you later Scabbs Hope they bring you your patients!!
bye earth, nice to meet you
bye to all
I found someone. This is the Indian Reservation Clinic and the nursing dept is inept.
toodle pips, Earth :-)
in6..."a dispensation granted often temporarily by the pope, permitting a deviation from church law." 12 years of Catholic schooling and I have never heard of this word.
nor have i, how did you ever find it, earth
Mayhap they don't teach deviants like me such words.
the root of the word in8, but who knew
Latin geeks probably knew : )
i am one of them (three years) but I did not.
I will have to ask my eldest (who geekily medaled in Latin) if he knows.
grr, this is one of those little gris that will take an hour. soon time to move on.
i keep seeing the hairy nosed dolphin, ut not the real i word.
finally. whew.

god morning to you as well
god mourning?
boy i really know how to kill chat. good thing i have such thick skin.
hello everyone - wow! does this ever look tough
yah, I got down to 19 and think i need to list. absurd for a 60 word grid.
very slow going, finding words at all - must be a lot of babblets and inventive stuff
okay 14 now. goal is to get to ten.
sorry.. biz call here
there's a couple of doozies doren
ah biz... forgot about how that can go. ;-)
ha
soak it up baby
there must be. but i won't list till ten... which might come at the end of the day. I have to unpack, it's about time.
I thought you were unpacking last night?
yeah, i was. but it didn't happen. well, actually I dumped everything out of the luggage, so theoretically I could bring luggage up to attic and pretend to be unpacked. Now, there's a couple of piles for me to deal with. Plus need to find my laptop cord, since it lost juice. but first, perhaps, I can luxuriate in the sunny living room reading today's Times. new plan for retirement -- read the paper on the day it is meant to be read! Perhaps even before babbling
okay now, 11.
oh wow.. there's life besides babble :D
funny.. I am finally deciding that's true.
I'm amazed at how addicted to this game I have been. That may change when I retire.. it's a good avenue for me to unwind and use my brain most days
I need to get to WORK.. have a great day ms retiree
down to 20 but still missing that middle row n and the 7's

i think the middle row n is the one that rhymes with pine nut nan. and I'm off to read the paper.

Never mind Pena.
Totally lost on what rhymes with pine nut. I have the word but don't get the clue.
Starts with a "p".
Must remember to get the Botany books out
ni + prefix meaning not....
ap 7 please?
or ba 7?
Like I said, I have the word, but thanks Pen
ba7 is a gun with a knife on the end
i thought someone else needed it...
I did, pen - but got it a while ago
sorry...
ty molly - thought I had tried that
thouht I saw a clue for the ap 7 that was 'farthest from the moon', but I thought that was appogee
ul 5, please?
ul + a cooking vessel
nan - you are sort of close on the ap7, but it doesn't have a double consonant. Also the "gee" part refers to the Earth; you have to replace it with a word that refers to the moon.
just up!!!, checking to see that I did in fact finish this last night
ty sue
ty flosey
hi flosey -- haven't seen jill for awhile -- someone suggested she was busy with her dogs?
yw nan, now off to read the daily, then breakfast
she doesn't have dogs but had been very busy publishing her book about Danes - and chatting with owners
bye now
glad to hear she is busy and not sick!
When I first heard Jill was writing about Danes I naturally thought 'Great Danes' and assumed she had dogs.
she used to have great danes and judged at dog shows, so I assume her book is about great danes
ya 5, please?
ahhhh....okay. Now I don't feel so idiotic. When I read flosey's comment that Jill doesn't have dogs, I started laughing at myself for my assumption. :)
cy, first 3 ltrs are what a small dog does
ty ch1212
*!* ta da *!* - a truly ugly grid!
hagd everyone and thanks for the help :-)
congrats :)
hi
Hi SMom. How is the recovery coming along?
un 6?
nm fw
un + op of closed
nm fw = never mind, fireworks
For once, I made a dinner that we both liked" duck, spinach and sweet potatoes
Usually, I cook for husband and dogs and eat whatever....
You should cook more things that you like, Ruby. You are important too.
Ruby...here and then gone in a flash...
hi molly... ok thanks........... am beginning to return to ,y old sweet bitchy self
SMom, love the new picture. You need to change your "unwelcome visitors" description though. : D
lol, well spotted Molly
but they are unwelcome , molly... they defecate all over the place and i will not let my great grand children play on the swing set i got them b ecause it is in the back yard...... they nibble the bark on my little trees and thery have TICKS....... the city is not the place for deer.
But SMom, there are babies in your profile picture now.
and those deer babies have grown and reproduced and their grandbabies are shitting in my yard andf i dont want them here either
But SMom, the picture is little kids and your description says that the pic is unwelcome visitors...maybe I should give up...
....waiting for the penny to drop.....
i have a neighbor who thinks i am terrible because i think ther deer should be culled and ther meat used in ther food program. and ther rest should be moved to the woods south of here. (aw , thery are so cute she says) i say if t\she thinks they are so damned cute, let HER feedm them, let them eat her garden and crap in her yard and give ticke\s to her cat.. I worked for 30 years to get my little place of refuge and do not want to share it with them.... since the city is making ther profit by selling their habitat, thern ther city should pay for the removal of them as part of the cost of doing business
Yes smom, but who are the cuties in the pushchair?
did the penny plunk chrissie? heh heh
They are little dears :-)
Hahaha
Hi zooz :)
Hello, Chrissie :-)
SMom, is it possible that Walter 2 changed your profile picture? Take a look at it and maybe you will get what I'm talking about.
For such a wee grid I am not finding it easy. Have you finished zooz?
the cuties are indeed cuties.... when i got home from the hosp., sam patted my hand and said there, there g'nana, and julia sand soft kitty to me
Yes, Chrissie, finished a while ago.
I am sure sheldon cooper likes that little melody too :-)
he did change the profile pic, molly he jsut told me, however it does not show it in my profile
Try and refresh, Smom, that should do it.
Ah, so that's Sam and Julia
And THAT is why the unwelcome visitors description doesn't work. Whew.
lol
And I'm not sure, but I don't think that Sam and Julia like to eat your garden.
and they are why i say the deer are unwelcome...lol
Soft kitty.. warm kitty.. little ball of fur.
This is better than tv :)
thanks zom, i neded that
lol ((Sammysmom))
Okay, I tried. I guess it will continue to say "the pic is of my back yard with unwelcome visitors - they like to eat my garden" : O
when he fixes it so that i can see the kidfs, i will tell you how wonderful and smart they are and bore you stiff... heh heh
We'll look forward to it smom
if i weren t so damned dumb with this toy, i would fix it myself, but, fat chance of THAT happening
darn nature getting in the way of progress:) Nuke the deer! sorry, sammy's mom, could not resist.
ah cross, i don't want to nuke them, i just want them to live in another place rather than my back yard. they were not here whern i bought ther place and i don t think i should have to be hurt by therm or sp[end a fortune to get rid of them
it is the price we pay. the deer, there as well as here, were in place long before we were...
though i understand your annoyance
i am one of those dumb old people who thinks it is wrong to have zoos...... if you want to keep the animals, and are willing to spend money to do so, then contribute to keeping them in their own original habitats.. we don t need to imprison them , which i think is sheer torture and against nature.
As we(man) encroach upon their natuaral habitat, the migration paths are thrown out of kilter
I do not approve of zoos either
I have never brought my son to a zoo, though i did take him to a wildlife sanctuary we have here
i agree, andf since \my city is the entity who made enormous profits by taking their habitat and building apartment buildings, ( that are still unrented after 8 years by the way) then the city should pay for the relocation of the deer as part of the expense of doint business
i was raised in maine. cross and my dad taught me 7o0 years ago... honey if you screw with nature, run.............. cause nature will get you back tenfold
well.. I would not hold your breath.. perhaps all those homes should be razed instead and the area made into a park and the population relocated:))
don' screw with Mother nature:))
I am a firm believer that humans are the visitors.. the animals had it all first:) lol, we used to get bears tearing the front door off of homes if they smelled food:)
soon learned to have all dry goods in airtight glass containers...
we had a nice country club which also was a home to the deer, but most of that was sold to build more stores including a crappy walmart, which has put an enormous burden on our water system, brought new crime to the area and lowered property values, a real gem of an "improvement" hey
We pave paradise and put up a parking lot:(
When we lived in the far north we used to grow two gardens; one full of leaf lettuce and such for the deer, and a chicken-wired reinforced garden for us humans and they were far apart from each other
was basicall a house frame with no walls, covered in wire
and i fought it and was accused of being against progress.. the progress of a megamart causing the closing of thirty or more small businesses which are now closed stores (another urban blight) and of course the big store pays less in taxes
Wal-mart was the death knell of many small business when they first came here 20 years ago;(
thats the way we did it in maine cross, if you are going to feed your family , you have to contribute to those creatures who were here before you
Their buying power undercut everyone else and lead to the development of shoddy goods to meet their unrealistic price-points
and it kept the deer busy:))
nice, leafy romaine lettuce...they could not resist
i was just on of the older residents who was willing to pay a fw more cents to support the old stores and let them make a living wage....... unfortunately not enough of us cared until it was too late.......... now we have more traffic and crime then we can handle
I still do my best to support small shops, but do not always succeed :(
I live it a tourist area, so traffic is heavy, but thankfully crime is low(except when the citiots bring it with them in the winter)
me too cross, and my kids do also, and a few of my neighbors, but i am afraid that there are not enough of us
off to give my honey his treatment... later all
a real good internet article to read on that is "The Man who Said No to Wal-Mart"
tc sammysmom, nice chit-chat
howdy. Can anyone help me with un5,16? Please.
to un disallow something...like when a book is ***ned at the library....
boo!
I got six minutes till I mow the grass
Exciting news!!!!
you wont a skillet?
well hurry and type I only have 4 minutes
Good Afternoon people. My grandson is due home any minute and then I'll have to play with him. Good thing this is a small grid (but it does look nasty to me)
Well, I'd say hi, Nef, but since you are only here for a minute, you will probably be gone by the time you see it.
I'm still here Molly; but leaving soon. How are you doing today?
hi nef....lurking...
hi pen, maybe I'll be able to stay a little longer, the boy hasn't come barging through the door yet demanding we play! :-D
Damn internet down trying to do on tablet...
Hi Jilly. I didn't realize your tablet would work if the commuter internet is down
It's on cellphone contract..4G
Aaah
Nef, you have no idea how far people will go to stay connected to the internet.
Slower than beegeejuz doing it like this! But I started grid before internet went down
and here comes my little 5 year old bundle of energy! (he hasn't found me yet; he's afraid his Papa is going to eat something he says he doesn't want to eat now !
Oh rats, I was going to ask Nef how grandson is still living there. I thought he and Dad moved out.
I have 4G on T-mobile for my phone, my tablet goes through my internet though. (oh, and Jilly, I found out the hard way the T-Mobile doesn't work in MT)
Do you see how fast Tmobiles commercials turn map of service area up so that is not noted?
MOlly, they are moving out; but slowly. Part of that is due to DH's health; it would be nice if he was a bit more stable on his feet before they move out.
It's pretty much a Verizon world here.
My son said that if DH would fall in the middle of the night again & they were all ready moved out, I could still call him and he'd come & help get him back in bed.
So, they are moving out slowly...
Hope it's realistic to hope he'll get his strength up? Has there been improvement?
he's working at it
Hi all. I am not caring much for this grid but I wll finish.
help pls with the an5/14 and the an6/24. I do not see either in morewords
AN 5 - something that irritates you
AN 6 - compound word, will AN 6 get the answer
sheesh, ty wv, should have found them myself.
Sorry Nef. I didn't realize that your husband's health issues had gotten that serious.
Sorry, got called away by grandson.
bah humbug, it is dark outside and not even 6 pm
But he's bigger than me and heavier than me by nearly 100 lbs, so sometimes it's tough if he falls
Sorry Nef. Dealing with a spouse who falls is difficult. I'm glad you have some help.
???I first typed that he's got MS; and it fluctuates, sometimes he's good, right now he's not so good; but he isn't "serious" either
Well, halfway....hopefully Internet will be back on later...too frustrating to use tablet...bye all!!
I have no clue where that first comment went
bye Jilly
You have a good attitude Nef. It was just my thought that dealing with a spouse who falls is serious.
Sorry, I just got off the phone. Molly, when one loves one's spouse, a person will do whatever to keep them going. It's just part of the deal, right?
BBL, I guess I'm being summoned
love babble
Hello all

hi...
did you get that winter storm, penq? I've been reading about a lot of snow in Maine.
yes, 10 in. of heavy wet snow....lots of power outages...i was without power for 9 + hours yesterday....rare for me...
glad you got your power back!
me, too....in 1998 during the ice storm my brother was without power for 2 weeks....
my dad lost power for a couple of weeks during hurricane Sandy - his power hardly ever goes out either
my brother was lucky....has a franklin stove and lives on a lake....so he had heat enough for the house and water available to use....
ah, that's good! It's us urban and suburban dwellers who really suffer when the power goes out, I think
yes....
Hello fellow Babblers. I've been busy setting up a kitten blog (not ready yet) and I suddenly realised I've still got 12 words to find. Hope everyone is well and happy? *Dives into grid.* xx
hi jac!
fireworks!
congrats!
Hi uusue! Congrats on the *~*~*~*~*
thanks! I can clue for a while...
Goodness! I can't believe I didn't see the ba7/44 (gun with sharp thing on the end) before now, especially considering all the war research I've been doing lately.
Thanks, uusue. I'll yell when I need a clue.x
un5 from top left?

It wasn't that uusue, but thankyou anyway. It was a silly word meaning to stop disallowing something. FIREWORKS!
yay jac!
:) All I had left were either simple ones I hadn't noticed or words I am positive I'd already put in. (I'm sure Babble sometimes nicks words just to keep us here for longer. LOL)
haha, I think you are right, jac!
:)
Is everyone done now?
i am....
Back for my last 10. Hi kids.
Well done penquis. Hi Scrabbs! How are you?
Good, Jacula. How have you been?
ty!
Good, not so good, not very good at all, better, fine... you know, Scrabbs. Long story. I've lost your email address... and I'm not sure if you're on Facebook? Ity would be nice to get in touch again.
I am on FB.
I can clue for a while now.
Scrabbs - I will check the FB Babble site for you.
Got you again, Scrabbs. So sorry for losing you. I'll try not to do that again. If you look on my page, you will see the news of recent times.x
Hello again, how are you doing on this grid?
Hi Nef. 5 left for me.
35 here. I started it just about 1/2 hour before my grandson got here. I'm not having much luck with it; but I ought to finish it anyway
(((Jacula))) not sure what's going on with you, but hugs to you anyway
Done.
YAY, Scrabs!!! WTG!!!
congrats!
Off to bed. Nighty-night, friends.
'Night Scrabbs. Talk soon. x
niters
Nef - I had a spell in hospital due to a very bad gall bladder flare-up. I've got an operation to remove it pending (proabably around Christmas time). I've also got a mouth full of stitches, due to blocked salivary glands and a cyst being removed. The surgeon reckons the glands are due to damage from using an electric toothbrush. The good news is that I've got 3 kittens and they're running me ragged. They are lovely but one of them is really naughty.
Oh, Jac, I'm sorry to hear that. My DH just had his gall bladder removed last month - emergently and he feels so much better now!
Of course, his emergency trip for his gall bladder was just 2 days before a vacation --AGAIN!!! So, this is the 4th vacation we haven't had because he suddenly got sick.
The month stuff sounds horrid! And the dentist feels it's due to the electric toothbrush?? Wow! I use them all the time!
This might sound totally mad, Nef, but last night, after the naughty kitten had bitten through a (thankfully not plugged in) thin wire in the sitting room that powers some dragonfly lights that are outside, I was standing in the doorway to the kitchen and saw, yes actually saw rather than seeing something out of the corner of my eye, our old (deceased) cat Tiggsey (the original naughty boy) stroll out from under the kitchen table and into the kittens' night crate. I wonder if he was going to show the naughty kitten the error of his ways or to teach him new tricks?
(that was mouth, not month)
Nef - I'm glad to hear your other half is better since surgery. Honestly, you can't always tell what will set the damned thing off!
He's probably teaching the kitten new tricks. :-)
Both the dentist and the hospital surgeon thought the damage was due to the electric toothbrush, yes.
Nef- Oh thanks for that, re the old cat and the new. I was hoping he'd be telling the new kitten to tone it down!
Why are they waiting? The surgeon had told my DH he could do it now, schedule for after our trip or ignore it; but only DH could decide.
Are you sure the surgeon isn't just flossing over this jac?
hi ruru.
Hiya nef
It will be three months wait in the end, Nef. It would have been done straight away if my GP had got me into the better hospital on the day I became really ill. However, I know that the surgeon is waiting for his new man to start his appointment. The new man is an expert in gall bladder surgery. My other surgeon's expertise lies with colon cancer. As he told me, and the rest of the ward I was in at the time, 'He's far more expert at me, so wait for him!' Also, they do like the inflammation to go down so they can yank the gall bladder out through the hole they've made in your navel.
Jac, DH barely waited a minute before he said to take it out now
lord, how long will it take to get nbt.....
Hiya, ruru. Think I just answered your question. I've had lots of scans of different kinds, x-rays too since the really bad attack. My liver was compromised during the last bout but that's all back to normal now. I've also lost almost 2 stone in weight, which the surgeon was more gleeful about than me, since it makes keyhole surgery much easier. Still don't fancy having 5 holes made in my abdomen, especially the one in the navel! I've also read that they fill you full of gas to make things easier to get at and you end up with the most terrible shoulder pain for up to 4 days afterwards. A pain like a terrible 'wind' pain, apparently.
Hi, Harp. If you need any clues, just yell.xx
Wow! DH has 4 tiny scars, none bigger than an inch; and they pulled his nasty gall bladder out through 1 of them.
hi harp.
Shoulder pain is not required Jacula. I have had that kind of surgery lots of times with no pain in the shoulders. Don't worry
Nef - one of my son's friends works at the good hospital, the one I should have been in. Apparently, they pop a swollen gall bladder into a bag and then mince it to take it out through a small hole. I kind of wish he hadn't told me that.
hello friends. Wishing you well Jac
Bug - thanks for the reassurance.x
Don't you hate it when you get too much informatiion? I won't eat calimari any more since I learned what the chefs call it.
LOL Bug! Ain't that the truth?
Having said that, I was ghoulish enough to watch a gall bladder removal operation on Youtube.
DH didn't have shoulder pain either
Mmmm... calamari with lemon and pepper...
hi all. any clues for the 7s?
You are a glutton for punishment then. Just go in, have a good sleep and come home feeling better. I like it in my happy little world where I don't know what happened until it is over.
Unless calamari is cooked properly, which it rarely is outside the home, it's like trying to chew rubber bands.
I make it at home... as you say; in the wrong hands it becomrs rubber
Bug - I like to know what is going on. I'm the woman who keeps her specs on to watch the camera during her 5-yearly colonoscopies (camera up the backside medical forays). However, after opting for no sedation during the last one, I've decided I prefer to be a little bit high/out of it.
hello, everyone (what DO chefs call calamari?)
are you sure you want to know?
I call it squid:)
deep-fried foreskin
yes - but maybe no one else does. i can msg you on fb, if you prefer
oops, too late
I hate watching the TV the dentist has showing you all the work he is doing. It makes me so much more nervous
well, as someone who has tasted rocky mountain oysters, it's not the worst :)
LOL! (I'm sorry, I had a phone call there for a few minutes; I really couldn't listen , talk, and Babble all at the same time
won't eat those either Nef
welki - The only chef I know at the moment calls it 'deep-fried anal sphincter'. Well, that's not the precise term, but it's the polite one.
welki I mean. sorry
what are the stats for the lone n please?
feh - they can call it what they want, it's still delish. reminds me of the old joke - a customer says, 'Cow's tongue? You've got to be kidding me, I'm not eating anything that comes out of a cow's mouth! Give me two scrambled eggs"
ni 5, 10 I think jane
That's a good one too, welki
hi, jane
LOL welki! I love that
thanks! hi all
ni 5 has 3 n's in it.
any clues for the 7s?
what are the stats for the lone a? (for nbt)
sorry mkg
i like calamari....my great nephew (9) likes it steamed, fried, or any other way....
i once made a big pot of oxtail stew. everyone loved it. my sister asked, 'what are these tiny bones?' i told her and she promptly ran to the bathroom to vomit. mind over matter, mind over matter.
harp - lone i = in4/8 - Scottish/Northern word.
Sorry, mkg, I don't have them
huh? is oxtail stew from the tail of the ox? do tell me.
ba7 - pointy thing at the end of a rifle
ty nef

mkg - how to count in French... 0 zéro 1 un 2 deux 3 trois 4 quatre 5 cinq 6 six 7 sept 8 huit 9 neuf 10 dix 11 onze 12 douze 13 treize 14 quatorze 15 quinze 16 seize 17 dix-sept 18 dix-huit 19 dix-neuf

let me know if you want to know how to count to ten in chinese... ;o)
Okay, mkg. But keep the list for future use.
in4/8. in + not hello
mkg...add a vowel to the end of the french one.....

i did get that word already. ty all.
pen - or Welsh, or German etc.
ty got in word. and met my goals of nbt, more than half way and nb numbers, and all 7s.
ty all.
japanese, french, spanish, german, and chinese.... ;o)
I wasn't having a go at mkg, by the way. I was posting a list I hoped she would find useful in the future due to not having studied French.
It's easy to be flippant about what many of us might find easy, but not everyone does find those things easy.
I can almost speak American English most of the time. Does that count? ;-)
six and seven in Swedish are sex and shoe, Jac
lol...
yes, nef, it counts. i've had trouble 'using my words' all day long!
American English? That's a weird one. Australian English is far easier.;)
Bug - I'm liking the Swedish alphabet. I must learn it :)
Boy, some days I can't say what I think at all! All I have to do is get really mad or upset; and I speak gibberish. My kids used to always laugh at me when I got mad at them; I'm pretty good with spoonerisms at that point.
Bug - does the Swedisg alphabet include C for chocolate, t for a nice cup of tea and w for white wine??
I am not sure but I could find out. Mr Bugs is in from the shop, but I am sure you are correct.
infact, I think T is pronouced tay which is Scottish
The Welsh for 5 is pump (pronounced pimp).
aren't Welsh grandmothers called Nine?
Nain. Yes, bug. LOL
what a talent I have for useless words.... taking a bow
*Cheers Bug* and hopes to soon take such an accolade herself.*
It's fun to read this, Bugs, I didn't know any of them
(and Jac)
Nef. ((hug)). Thank you.
nbt shoot me n ow....
good for you jane. I am not there yet
If you really wish, harp, but dunno why.... BANG!
I just got there about 10 minutes ago myself. This is a nasty grid for me!
me too Nef
I have 15 left; using More Words and also Lickety now; just trying to finish such a short grid
Hanging around here chatting really isn't getting my kitten blog done, is it? However, it's far to late/early in the day to continue with that now. I have an injured kitten to check up on first thing to see if he needs to visit the vet - that's before the insurance we just took out kicks in! He hurt hisright wrist and ankle when he rushed to greet my daughter. He's been playing with his 2 siblings but also taking time out away to rest. He was jumping and wrestling with them with no apparent pain before bedtime. I'll see how he is later.
what were you thinking to get 3 at one time? They will bounce all over you all night!
Did you inherit a litter?
Hello! Wanted to babble incognito today, but I need help with my last two words if you could please help w/clues.
that's Jac, littering all over the place... *wicked mama grin* hey all -- playing hooky from lesson plans tonight!
Nef - No, I bought a litter at £20 a kitten.
(((Min))) nice to see you, Min!
hey stid and Minveryork! good to see you
Do you have clues for that ul 5/14 word and the un 5/16?
Hi stidmama! How are you? How is the school year so far?
Wow, Jac. You definitely weren't thinking of the work (& trouble!) you'd have!
school year is not bad, was really really really stressed out at first, and still trying to acclimate to what is "normal" for this age, but overall I am LOVING this year. Never thought I would be doing such little ones, but it is a real treat for me.
Hi Min and stid!
lan' sakes, Jacula, you're a real sucker for punishment! LOL ((hugs))
how about you, Min?
ul + pots and ***s
Ok, I found the un 5/16 word. Clue for the ul 5/14 please
jsut gave it Min. Can you clue the un for me please?
My year is ok so far.Still split between two schools again.
thanks for the U words
Thanks Bugsaw. un 5/16 word means to lift an embargo.
A bit like stid re the little 'uns - I knew what I was taking on.
split between schools does NOT sound like fun to me!
I am finished!I have fireworks! Thanks for helping me out
YAY Min!!!!!
Well done, Min.x
well done Minveryork!!
Usually don't leave right after FWs,but I need to go.Sorry
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I will see you tomorrow
you do so much for us. No worries
Min - don't worry about it.x
sweet dreams Min
Niters, Min
(I just had another political phone call; I'm so sick of this campaign and all the nasty stuff I'm glad tomorrow it will end!)
i hear you, nef. just hauled my fat self out of the chair to answer the phone - telemarketer. 'take me off your call list.'
amen...
Re the kittens - at least all the naughtiness will be over in one chunk... or maybe not. They all have their own personalities (the kittens) but only one is the nauthy boy I really do worry about. We have a shy Tortie/Calico girl and two giner boys we call The Ginger Ninjas. (See my FB posts if you're friends with me on there.) One boy (our little lion, named Simba) tries to mediate between his shy sister (who punches both in the face if they go too far) and his totally mad ginger brother, Jaffa, who, despite being confined to the house, has already made two successful hunts leading to a kill (of spiders), has already bitten through a thankfully not plugged in thin eletric wire, and also worked out how to jump onto the kitchen worktop. My new swater spray bottle is my friend right now re this. However, I think Jaffa is like our old male cat and he will do what he want, when he likes, where he likes etc., etc. He worries me to be honest. He seems like the kind of cat who will get into a car or a van and end up lost miles away, or get shut into a shed or garage.
I've listened to all of our candidate debates, I've done my research; on who I'll vote for; but now these last 48 hours it's been nasty, nasty, nasty mud slinging
you must carry that bottle like a gunslinger Jacula with 3 of them to train all at once.
Evening all. Looking for clues for the AN 6 and AP7 please. And Thank You.
The naughty boy likes to chomp wires and also steals pens. The shy girl likes to rip paper. The lion to be (Simba) walked on my keyboard a couple of days ago, because he was sao interested in what I was doing, and opened 24 tabs in Firefox that I never asked for.
Hi Jindigo -an6 - this grid is so easy an6 can do it!
Jac; mix half vinegar and water in that spray bottle and it works better than anything else I've tried. They do not like vinegar smells; and when my son's cat tries sharpening his claws on my furniture; I spray both him and the furniture and he won't scratch there again for a while
Thanks Jac
thanks Jac. Do you have an easier clue for the un 5?
Jindigo - ap6 - furtherest point in orbit from the moon. ap + vowel = moon word.
picture this: Jac in chaps, wearing a holster, loaded with spray bottles - spurs, too :)
love the spurs!
LOL!
rofl
Nef - plain water is working so far in the spray to keep them off the surface tops. Can't use that for the wires though. Does anyone have any advice about that?
down to 16 and TOO TIRED to keep going, so I am going to head out. Nice to see you-all on a weeknight! *poof*
welki, I didn't have chaps; but I did carry that spray bottle around all the time when that cat first got here
*singing* i got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle....
good night stid. hugs
hot sauce on the wires, jac
Niters, stid!
hi/bye, stid
or just use straight vinegar to clean that area with; he may stay away from that
Welki - LOL! It's getting to that point with Jaffa. I said to my partner that it's just as well we didn't call him Tango. (Dunno if your get those 'you've been Tangoed' adverts in US?) Anyway, anything Jaff has got at here has now been Jaffaed.
thanks again Jac
'nite, ladies - thanks for the convo, a nice time
happy fishing welki.
niters, welki
9 left
3 left and I am blind but stubborn
I've read, in the Total Kitren Care book my daughter got for me, that putting Vick (menthol) vapour rub around things (including wounds from neutering) puts cats offas they hate the smell. Maybe I should rub Vick on the wires?
I should go to bed now because I'm not typing the words I mean to speak! LOL
I've never heard that one, Jac, but give it a try.
Wll do, Nef! See you in another chog. Thanks for the chat and the fun you (and all)xx
I found out about the vinegar because my str. was always cleaning her cat's litter box with it and the cat was peeing on the floor! Once I found that out, I read up on it and now she uses the vinegar to clean everything else with!
str= DTR. (daughter)
good nite Jac Feel better soon
LOL - nef! You should only use soap and water to clean a cat litter box. On a serious note, any disinfectant that turns white in water should not be used to clean pet things as it is very posionous to animals.
good to know Jac. thanks
Thanks for the health wishes, bug. I feel great now - thought I might skip the op until my hiding away from the surgeon gall bladder gave me a twinge the other day. I guess the discomfort after the operation will be worth it in the end.
Off to bed now. Happy Babbling all. xx
THat's good to know, Jac. I don't use anything to clean with except bicarb, detergent and vinegar (not necessarily all at once though); DH likes PineSOlin his bathroom (so I make him clean his own!)
Sweet dreams, Jac
Nef - just come back to say one last thing - If the cat doesn't like the litter box after the cleaning, you need to put a little bit of the cat's poo back in there so it remembers what the litter box is for.
Sweet dreams to you, too, Nef. Not of cat liter boxes, hopefully.x
finally finished. anyone need a bad clue before I head out to do some chores?
ok bye
Niters, Bugs. I have 2 left

yay shoo
not too bad. neck and shoulder a bit sore from working cows today.
and yourself?
I do appreciate the big hints for this tired brain.
Back to the puzzle.
taking double dose of magnesium during the day so much improved.
My chiropractor gave me that advice too and my neck pain/shoulder pain is gone.
Magnesium is a good thing unless you take too much of it. LOL
i did get the permission of my cardiologist
sadly, mine's not just muscle - probably an entrapped nerve root, but doctor wants me to try physical therapy before she takes x-rays.
I have a6 and u6, what's the other 6 please?
physical therapist, of course, is confused about why doctor doesn't want to do x-rays...
in6/24
thanks
half way
will magnesium cure ebola too?
hopefully at least 200 for next grid
