exactly liz. it is such a long race. the animal has to have marathon training. to run almost 2 miles at a flat out gallop takes a lot of training.
Perhaps one day there'll be a closer check on these things.

No. We use a giantic lake but there has been so much rainfall too fast so the water can't clean up fast enough. Lots of turbidity so boil for 1-2 minutes before using

Slides are endemic along the sound north of Seattle. The rail lines are broken every winter and the passengers shuttled by bus to the line further down the line.

a CNN clip; there's a video going around of all the catcalling and come-ons a woman got walking around Brooklyn for 10 minutes. that video was being discussed on CNN and the guy had the rudeness and head-up-his-buttness to tell the girl that she felt wrong and that he is more of an expert on how women think than she is, and that women should be happy to be catcalled because it's a compliment. and if they're not happy about it, they should tell the guy so. when the woman pointed out that a girl in Detroit got killed for doing exactly that a week ago, he interrupted to tell her that she should carry a gun then.

I saw that video of the woman; WHY do men think it's okay to do that?

I know now that I put on a bunch of weight after a very humiliating experience in Washington DC in the 90's; I gained weight to avoid being humiliated like that again.

I wasn't a girl, I was a "mom" after that. (my kids were 13 and 9 and they were with me at the time; that was the worst part of it. Catcalling and touching me while my kids were along; it wasn't good
so many things that make me wish I could re-arrange people's brains... course then I might get power drunk and who'd be able to stop me?
I'm old enough that it's been a while (and am also fat now although for different reasons), but I never did like the catcalls, horn honking, and (occasional) grabbing. Ugh.
(we had to walk through a construction area with a narrow covered walk-through; I'm not sure if my kids "saw" it, when I spoke with my sone recently about it he doesn't remember; so I'm grateful of that)

jes, when my sister tried to get into the U of MN vet program, she was shut down because she was female. Our old vet got a bunch of his farmer clients (my sis was working summers with him) to write letters about her work and invariably they'd write something to the effect of "she does good -- for a girl"
though ... the last client that got all in my space and handsy on me was a little old lady, so...
