these days I make time. I spent 30 years being a type A and chasing the brass ring or the carrot dangling on the end of a stick in front of my nose, but no more.
Had to renew my health card yesterday, also got the photo ID card for people without a driver's license. I expected to be there for hours, it took about 20 minutes.
I do not need to die in harness as it were;)

I alway frown horribly when i get that type of picture taken, either for the health card or the drivers permit. One day the person taking the photo said to me " Why are you looking so sad in the photo?' I said "The only time i will be showing this, i will most likely not be smiling!"
I am quite sure I blinked for the health card. Hope this time you can actually make out my features, the last one was awful.

Did not know you could bring in a photo for a passport. here, you must pay big bucks for a strip of three "official" passport photos from a photographer and have the back of each signed by a "member in standing in the community, Doctor, clergy, etc
And they are anal as to the specific size of the photo
That is true, I remember that hassle. Last time I got a passport I worked in a library and you could get a librarian to sign it.
It will probably get more difficult.
It is a royal pita. i need to re-do my permanent resident card:( it is going to cost $200.00
and take 6 months plus from submission of the application
But, i cannot travel without it
On that one I will NOT be smiling;)
And I heard passports are only good for 5 years now.
Of course, that way they can ding us twice each decade for fees...
Mine is long expired. When I get the next one I also want to get a European passport also. Although I can't see that I will be travelling that much in the future.
Though, it is very easy, oddly enough, to renew my U.K passport. last time I had it in under two weeks!

We have been here since 1969, my sister just became a citizen about 8 years ago and could get her passport :)
I came over in 1966 and retained my citizenship and just got perm resident status
Since our father was from Newfoundland, we are considered resident's born abroad.

The town refuses to have a road built to the mainland and you have to get there by ferry or helicopter.
I would agree with keeping the ferry and telling them to shove the road
I visited once, it is very beautiful.
Sure it can be a pain, and food costs more, but it is what makes the community.
They have all they need, a couple of churches, a store, a school.
And even those who are now in St. Johns visit frequently.

Lol, Us kids used to wait for that catalogue like hound dogs waiting for dinner and by the first week of December the poor thing would look like it had survived three wars with all the pages earmarked, things circled and underlined and dozens of bits of maper marking the place of particular pages of interest.

FB is invaluable to me to stay in contact with many people at the same time, to share info, and to find support. But many people use it as a forum to bi*** about everything wrong in the world.
