hey, ruru is in the grid!
Hello, Sprite :-)
zooz! *hugs* How have you bee, dear man?
Got a cold but on the mend..lol How was your Christmas. Did santa bring you everything you ever wanted..lol
aw poor man :( *healing vibes your way* My Xmas was uninspiring. My husband came down with the flu and I had to do everything by myself. Worked my ass off to make it ok for the kids. And still am, because he is still ill.
You mean he has a cold like me but we call it man flu..lol Sorry to hear you had to do it all by your self. Not much fun for you in the end then :-( How are you after your fall? Still bruised I would expect?
no I mean a full-blown flu. He is really sick, has been for a week now and not showing any sign of being over it yet. Weak as a wet rag and about as pretty, lol. No, it isn't much fun for either of us. And yeah, body still sore from the fall and hurting from overtaxing now. But this, too, shall pass :)
I take it you too are getting this cold blast we are getting right now Brr It is cold in this house with the heating on full! On the up side though it is a lovely sunny day :-)
today it is cloudy and a bit less icy. Last few days it was very cold all of a sudden, with snow and icy rain. But also with clear skies and sun for stretches of time.
I love the weather when it is only a few degrees below zero celcius and the sun is out and the skies are clear. It is cold you can dress for and the sun makes it so nice and upbeat and the crispy cold isn't unpleasant.
I know what you mean but I am not cut out for the cold weather. I love seeing pictures of it the nice golden sun rising on a frosty morning type thing. But I need heat lots of it..lol
hehehe :D
Did your siblings enjoy their Christmas with you or did they have their own plans?
I only have one sister and she and I haven't met for over a year now... I sent her an email and hope we can pick up again... family issues are always so complicated, sigh.
fireflies. A good grid, but the C was hard.
congrats sprite and hello all :-)

hi all. well interesting grid today.
good morning
Hi, all!
Got a Microsoft tablet from hubby for Christmas. Alas, Babble does not translate well in Windows 8.1.
does babble do well with ipads?
ah the teleconference
Don't know. There are other issues with the MS tablet that I am not too pleased with. I have no less than three anti-virus/malware & pop-up blockers running on it, and I'm still getting obnoxious pop-up media players, etc etc. I can only surmise at this point that they are coming from some of the MS software that's pre-loaded on the tab. Grrrr.
It must be tablet 8.1. I'm running it on my desk top and have no problems.
I need Crossy's expertise on what to do.
What browser are you using?
I have Explorer and Firefox. Problems with both.
I would suggest Google Chrome then. You can use Ad Blocker Pro there. I don't get any pop ups.
they put me on google chrome and it helped me
Hmm. I can try that. Google Chrome eats up a lot of memory space though.
hi all. is there an NU word? if so clue please
welki I LOVE ur icon I laughed so hard!!!
hmmm, this grid is a tricky business
I'll try that tonight, Molly. I can't get rid of Explorer as it is part of the original bundle. I'll ditch Firefox. I purchased AVG 2015 which has very good protection. Also running bundle included McAfee and Windows Defender. You would think North Korea would have to nuke this sucker to gain entry by now.
You don't have to get rid of Exploder. Just don't use it.
True.
yes mkg nu 4/5

good afternoon everyone:)
hello
Howdy, ww, how are you this snowy day?
well, it's just a day here, no snow, but can't complain =)
Just a day here as well, to be sure, but any day on this side of the dirt is a good one eh?
this is true!
good morning/afternoon everyone :-)
getting lots of snow back east?
Not lots, but better than the rain we have been getting. ! would say about 4 inches of fresh snow so far
to each his own-- would rather have rain than a snow shovel in my hands!
As much as the tourist skier drives us nuts sometimes, we as a town need their city dollars to make things easier round here.
we had a about 3 inches of snow yesterday -- mostly melted during the day, but dropped below freezing last night and now we have a sheet of ice on the driveway
Ice, not that is a true pita

Hi Owl, sue, Marc

Owl, I am feeling the leftovers of being sick. Very drained.
I'm good, TO, Frank's immune system is pretty much shot so he has to stay away from people
*wanders in wearing facemask to protect Frank* Sue, I wish he weren't so fragile. :-(

Hi stid :)
me too, stid, although it is keeping him from picking up some random illness, which is good
hi, s tiddy
annie, ihope you are better soon. i was surprised to learn how widespread flu is already in PA
yes, avoiding illness is good. :-) There were many people today out and about on our shopping trip to Seattle wearing facemasks.
thanks for your good wishes, Owl
Im going to see about dinner. Bye.

hello all
Hi skatt. How are you tonight?
hi nef--just came on for a minute to avoid working but it's good to see you. I really don't do v well on any of these grids. You guys ok? Ronny?
Hi RB. We're fine. But Ronald and his dad have moved out (mostly) just this past week.
You must both miss him, and be releived that you're not the constant playmate. How's Frank?
This grid might be fairly easy for you; I've been here less than 1 1/2 hours and have just 7 left.
I don't think I have a brain that they jump out at.
I miss Ronald terribly; but I've spent the whole day doing nothing (recovering from his being here Sat. night - 10 PM last night (he & Frank ate the gingerbread house we made last week!)
Would you lik 4/8 some clues?
My answers aren't printing. Thanks, but no--I've delayed too long already. Another time! JJ
Take Care of yourself and stay warm! I hope you have a healthy, happy New Year too!
Thanks again. Now I will tackle my hard essay. A good new year to you, too. Goodbye!
doin good...thanx nef
little question here...any one have opinion of whats best....life alert first alert or other unit for senior with safety issue?
skatt, do you (or the person you're worried about) live alone?
Hi folks!
my mom....I live in a small house out behind the main house...she had a little fall last nite, but is ok
I'm an RN (retired), did county health nursing back in the early 1970's; plus have a husband with MS who's had some nasty relapses; so if you tell me a bit more I can tell you what I've done
Hi origami.
she;s 90 years young, but had shingles two years ago and of course that left her with some problems
those life alerts devices cost $50 when we were considering one for my hubby 4 years ago (I was working at the time; but in a non-profit clinic)
($50/mo back then, I meant)
tonite she told me she couldn't afford the thing...lol...so not true,, but we've been battling this with her for awhile
is she trustworthy?
how do you mean?
the ads make it sound like 20 or 25 per mon
I devised a cordless phone holder for my hubby so he could wear it around his neck when I was at work. That was perfect for us ( he has some memory problems; but
we had speed dial numbers so he could get help if he fell when I was working
ADT is cheaper .. about $30/mo. I used that when my husband was terminally ill and had to be left alone for a bit. Your phone holder is a great idea Nef.
oh yes...excellent idea....I think we can do something like that
That's great information, origami! Nice to know there is something cheaper out there!
thank you so much for the advice...somehow I felt this was the place to get some good info...:)
skatt, consumer reports did a short article in 2008, with some websites mentioned for how to monitor folks in their homes.
hello all
Hubby was in a wheel chair at the time; he couldn't remember much but with the phone hanging around his neck it reminded him to call
when she was down with the shingles I set up her computer and mine to Skype...I could see and hear her
Hi stid! I'll have to check that out now too!
that worked out great for that time
a button around the neck or a phone in the hand are good if the person will have the presence of mind to use it. One grandmother as she declined ended up in a graduated care unit, and one night decided to get out of bed without help (I know because I was sleeping in a chair in the same room), and didn't push the button next to her to get help. Of course she fell. So if there is any concern that a person wouldn't remember, or wouldn't want to inconvenience someone by calling...
I like the skype idea, skatt -- very ingenious.
skatt; you may need to remind her that falls (and broken hips) are a main reason for nursing home admissions
shingles is so painful; did she end up with the pain afterwards?
I understand...we aren't that far yet, but I know things won't be getting better...ya know, just talking with you folks has perked up my brain and I am feeling much better....be down about this...thanx again
(firworks, BTW)
YAY Nef!
oh yes...nuropathy
I'm glad that it helps you feel better. I'm not sure where you are, but do you have a Senior Network of some sort where you are skates? I'm in MN and we have both a website and a phone service that can give you all sorts of community services or advice
she did the rehab stint after shingles and she knows she cannot fall, but she is 116 pounds of pure attitude
Does she still have the neuropathy or has it eased up? One of my neighbors had severe shingles neuropathy for years after. Most people don't get it that bad)
I found a 7 by myself!
meds keep it down
good for ya stid
LOL! How are her bones? Any osteoporosis? There are some padded "girdles" that are made especially to prevent broken hips from falls
Stid; all 3 are related…;-)
oooh! *runs off to look*
Hey! I never thought that it might help you too, stid.
never had a broken bone in her life
me either
lucky us
I have broken my pinkie toes... :-( they ouched FAR out of proportion to their size!
DH (that's what I call my husband; it means "dear Hubby" or "Dang hubby"; depending….) had a 90 year old aunt living in the same condo as her 2 sisters. She was legally blind, but very independent. she washed her kitchen floor one Sunday at 6 AM and got tangled up in her rug and fell, broke her hip and fell & couldn't get the phone. So she covered herself up with the rug and laid there until her sisters came up for their morning coffee break (around 10 AM) and found her.
Is that the one who lived with you for a while? She sounds very resourceful and strong!
That was about 15 years ago. No, this was the 2nd oldest sister (the one that lived with us was the youngest of the 5 sisters)
ah
The one that broke her hip moved back here after being gone for 50 years. She lived here for about 5 -6 years and once she started to get "forgetful" I had to ask her daughter to come take care of her because my hands were full with the other 2 aunts and DH
(The other 2 had helped raise DH; so they were closer family)
amazing to have so many siblings!
At least to me -- several of Grant's friends have many siblings, but in my family three siblings is considered a crowd. :-)
Well, his mother died at age 52; all the rest lived into their 9o's except the one who lived with us; she was 87 when she died
well, down to 49. I think I will ask Tom to help me put some shelves together. Back later maybe. (((Nef))) good talking with you. Skatt, hope you find what you need to keep your mother safely in her home.
*poof*
One of DH's aunts is still alive and going strong at 96 now. She's going to go to Oregon in 2 weeks (she lives way up north in MN; near the Canadian border). She uses a walker; which upsets her because she has to use it.
Bye stid!
thanx again
Do you have any other questions, skate? How are you doing on the grid?
Sorry, my spell check keeps correcting me and I just noticed it's changing your name.
Doea anyone need any clues? If not, I'll Wait 5- 10 minutes & then be back tomorrow
No clues needed? Okay Happy Babbling, Everyone!
<poof!!>
Could I get a clue for pr7, please?
To get something with a purchase
Does it build off of a pr5?
No
thanks got it
Good nice going
un5, please?
Un +not pencil
thanks
unpaper? uneraser? unham? unfoot? Lots of things aren't pencils ..
hey tor. unguitar?
hey all
evening stiddy and other babbling friends!
mcurl!!!! I am the WORST teacher ever! I have done almost NO planning/prepping/work this vacation! (and it feels SO GOOD) *wicked mama look* how about you? Making progress on your sewing?
pl6, please?
I'm right there with you on the nonplanning and you are right IT FEELS GREAT!
I think it's latin for "lungs" marc
The sewing is at a stand still right now. I've gotten about 10 surgical caps done save the elastic and she's decided she wants a different style! I started some aprons but I don't like the 1/4 double fold bias tape so have to get different (like 1/2 inch instead) hopefully I cant get 1 adult and 4 child ones done by Friday night
YEP. I have four boxes of "stuff" that I brought from school. Will go through them tomorrow and repack to haul things back Wednesday... LOL I don't want to spend a huge amount of time in the classroom, but I know if I get a little bit done now it will make the rest of the grading period so much easier. I cannot believe we are down to three weeks. :-D
I need to get together with Liz and come up with a "list" of strategies we want to introduce/revisit so that I can try to come up with aplan
oh man -- maybe you can sell the caps to other people? I bought some towels at IKEA today that come with little tapes already sewn in so they can hang securely from hooks.
She'll use them, that isn't the issue. I bought some more material and was about to cut out 5 more, so she'll get the "material" in the box with the other caps until she gets me the new pattern :-)
That is a great idea, mcurl. I am doing similar things for my kiddos -- I put a big table at the front of the room on Sunday, and changed the desks around. I want to make it possible for the kiddos who have trouble seeing to move up when they want/need, but I don't want to try to assign seats in the front because then they will never get to change partners.
I LOVE IKEA!
LOL had I known, I would have invited you.
I got a shelving unit for my home office. But Tom didn't want to help me put it together tonight, so I have to wait until tomorrow and get Grant to do it.
stid I am sorry but the clue for pl6 did not work
PL + two vowels + egyptian sun god
I would come help but I have a basketball game tomorrow night and at some point go to the bank, get car tabs and the sewing items tomorrow. Man we are busy!
Thanks, but it won't take the long, just I need extra hands. You sound like you have a full plate! I was hoping to visit more with friends this vacation, but it is looking like I will spend most of the rest of the time just getting the house a little neater (it needed it). I'll rest up on the weekend and hit the ground running next Monday. I miss the kiddos.
did you finish that on-line class you were taking?
yes that was only a four week thing and to be honest I'm not much more clear than I was before but I'll continue through. We are going to an "in person" seminar in June so perhaps that will help.
thanks
areel
I went to that seminar two years ago and it was wonderful. I have a lot of ideas, but want to see them in practice. Going to go to Sheila's room this month and watch her during my planning (which is when she does her reading). I am excited to see an experienced teacher working with these ideas. I am also going to be able to watch my neighbor teacher some, we'll have to get a sub for that... I just hate "leaving" my kiddos to a sub!
sorry
go marc go! (did it work?)
areae
sorry again the PB for me
yes it worked thanks
Leaving you kids with a sub while you are in the building is a little easier than being totally out.
true. And I think I will pick a day with relatively low load... Library days are good because I set things up for a lot of free reading afterward.
We have to try to get the kids back on track in 5 days because the next week we start our 2nd full Dibel testing
ugh. Thanks for the reminder. :-(
You are welcome. I imagine most of the staff has not even thought of it.
down to 35... and finally NBT
Does that mean that the second week back we will not have intervention?
yep, no intervention
wow. So many things to balance. Suddenly I am feeling overwhelmed again!
:-( sorry
On the other hand, that means I can plan more coherent instruction for that week, so that's a good thing. It is hard on the kids when things are so broken up! LOL It's "all good" mcurl -- we have so many things to balance in the school, and it comes down to what is best for the kiddos. I will flex any way needed.
I feel a bit like a pretzel LOL
would you believe I only JUST saw that part of your name is in the grid? *facepalm* either too much wine, or not enough... my glass is empty so thinking I have had just the right amount. we found a lovely Georgian red wine at Fred Meyer -- usually I don't like red wines, but I think the soil in the Caucasian mountains must be nicer, because I love the reds I have had from that region.
But it is so expensive that we are doling it out about a quarter cup at a time... LOL
well, you're ahead of me! I've been working on this grid off and on all day and I hadn't even seen that! Haven't had a single thing to drink this entire break but come Saturday I'll have some hubby made Mudslides or even my favorite one.
