not really .. it's a super easy grid
thanks though
Hi everyone - wow, are most babblers finished?
hi flosey
just home from bridge
hi flosey! How was the game?
everyone is done flosey.
there are just 76 lurkers waiting to see if you need help
I started late, not me yet
lots of strange hands, my partner and I came in 4th
hubby and his p came first
Good evening everyone!
It's always fun though right?
yes, we've been playing bridge for over 50 years
WOW!
wow..
did you play with tree bark back then flosey?
*ducks*
lol, but really, a dear old friend was in a concentration camp during WW2 and they made their own cards out of tiny scraps of paper
how did they get scraps of paper in a concentration camp in WW2? was it in europe?
I don't know where they were, mkg
if it was in Japan it was rice paper
must have been either under the japanese or in the u.s.
the u.s. put japanese into camps. but they were fed.
it was horrible, but at least they werent killed off.
wow.. if we started putting Canadians in Concentration Camps mkg..we'd never hear the end of it
would have been under japanese I expect
this friend wasn't Canadian
i think the govt. finally gave money to the japanese who were detained in camps.
perhaps Dutch
under japanese they were fed i think.
not saying the food was more than enough to barely survive, but i think i need to read about these camps. they were prisoner of war camps right?
dutch? then could have been under the nazis.
yes
i assume they arent jewish right? many dutch helped jews and the dutch hated the nazis. so even if they didnt save others, they didnt co-operate. would be interesting to find out.
I would think the Dutch would have clogged the system in Germany
(waits for the groans)
naaaa, no groans
i went to amsterdam in 1969 and my friend spoke german. we got a cab and he tried to ask the cabbie questions. they man didnt answer. then he turned to me and in english said "i guess he doesnt understand german". the cabbie said "are you americans?" we said yes. he said "ok we like americans. but we hate germans so never speak german in holland." what a lesson that was for us. we spoke english from then on.
could be an awful headache though!
if only the dutch could have clogged the system there.........
no groans.
what do you mean by clogged the system? maybe i dont get it.
their wooden shoes.. it was a lame joke
I think ru was referring to the wooden shoes worn in Holland
but it's late here..
Granny is rolling on the floor laughing I bet
ok got it. clogged as it clogs.........now i am groaning.
late and I have a nasty headache but determined to beat this grid tonight
YAY! a groan
off to sleep.
nasty headache ? sorry flosey
thanks ru, good night's sleep should cure it
hope it goes away flosey
hello ru
thanks Saan
your icon is funny flosey!
thanks
you don't want to hear me sing though
hiya saanich
you certainly don't want to hear me sing
is that Dylan in your icon?
maybe we'd make an interesting duet, ru
yep.. that's Mr. D
oh lol flosey.. we'd have to move the glassware out of your house
beautiful dog, how is he feeling?
he's better.. but far from 100%.. he's on three antibiotics right now
oh do you sing soprano ru?
oh.. I have wider range than that.. but I can't hold a key
ok, so we won't threaten the folks when you come up
good idea flosey
ch
I can tell jokes though
oops
you can always sound like foghorns...
I'd sound more like a squeeky wheel
My best friend has a really nice singing voice.. I'm so envious
I'll do the bagpipe drone, just to please ru here, he loves it
sorry, squeak
ugh
the worst instrument ever created
too bad Abba didn't play bagpipes it might have helped them
ah, I love to hear them in a parade
is there any truth that the scots sent the pipers to lead the army to scare the enemy away?
they sound like geese being run over by trucks
I love the old pipes. A lot.
come on, ru, how often have you heard that!!
everytime there's a Memorial day they play those stupid things .. wwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
or certain funerals for police and firemen
a lone piper is amazing to hear
yes.. at a far, far, far distance
ah yes, I was not prepared - someone from his gang played bagpipes at the end of funeral, at the gravesite
my father's
they're not for me
I think we got that
oh good..just checking
:D
off to watch a movie, nice chatting with you flosey and ru
what movie?
always nice, Saan
good night saanich.. I should brush my teeth and get ready for bed.. need help at all flosey?
thanks ru, I'll muddle through
not sure yet, have to check my netflix list, something cheery anyway!
just 9 to go
ok, enjoy Saan
that was fast, in spite of our chatter, goodnight again!
Fried green Tomatoes saanich
seen it several times, it's way better than the book
I loved that one, ru
lovely movie
Analyze this is fun the first time too
not on Canada netflix, unfortunately. Goodnight for REAL now
ok.. night to you
night, Saan
stuck on the first st6
flosey, it will leave a nasty smell in your nose.
got it
but thanks rose
that was my last word, and the only one i had to list for. it was frustrating.
FW no list. Yea me!
last word, te5
WTG PEACH!!! well done.
well done Peach
Thanks y'all. Blessings.
not getting that last one, te5 from top T
just got it
and that's fw for me

tks rose
lolol....flosey...you jerking my lariat, hin?
have seen that word often enough in these grids
WTG FLOSEY!!!
wow, it's a fish?
that te5?
yes, flosey.
have not heard of it, perhaps not known in Canadian waters?
or, maybe not one that would be eaten?
i read about in a lot of novels set in europe. and it is supposed to be a nive eating fish.
ugh...nice
I am quite accustomed to reading correctly through misspelling
not intentional, not watching the keyboard properly....
and typos
well, chatting with you, Saan and ru while doing this grid has been fun, almost lost my headache
nice, flosey. it must have been stress-related then.
guess so, rose, but time for bed now, see you tomorrow
sweet dreams dear
have a good day, rose
thanx flosey
ty, will try
good morning all
{{hugs}} my darling friend. how was your night, dearest?
hi rose *hugs* It was ok. Bit short and troubled, but could be worse. And you? Just read your email about the hips and all. You didn't send a reply to my last email, did you?
you should be so proud of me.... i actually made it to one to go before i listed for help. i was so chuffed. yeah, i know, it's an itty-bitty grid, but sometimes these ones are the hardest.
hey, that is amazing! And yes, sometimes the smallest grids are the evilest. Good job!
yup, just did
ah, there it is, lol. Was afraid I somehow missed it.
actually i sent a response on the 29th, and another tonight.
actually another 2 tonight
yes I replied to the 29th one. Will reply to this last one right after babble :)
i sent the hip email, hoping to let you both understand why i may have to postpone my visits.
hmz... ok... I received one about your hips, and one about the boyo.
sweetie, I totally understand about postponing. I think we simply should. Forget about this year, go get that body in shape, then plan for next year knowing you can enjoy it so much more. Both of you.
s'okay. so long as we are still connected. it's no biggie.
we don't want any email to be lost in cyberspace. But I think all is here. Two emails I still have to reply to, right?
my GP was so sweet today. so understanding. at one point i said to her i have something else to discuss. ( that was about the endone versus pan forte) but i want to wait until i have your full attention. at that she turned completely away from her keyboard, looked me full in the face, and said...yes?
awwww that is so good.
yes my darling, but only if you think you need/want to do so.
of course I do, rose :) I always feel that way. Wish we could do this sitting next to eachother on the couch. But email will keep us connected until then :)
oh, sprite, i am so longing for that moment. we can hug, weep, whatever, just us.
exactly. But sweetie, it will keep for another year. Focus on getting as good as you can be first. Don too. It will be so much better that way.
did you see puglet here over the christmas break? i didn't.
me neither
hmmm...methinks an email is in order. what do you think? when she does this, it usually means things have not gone as she wished.
I hope she is simply too busy with her visitor to spend time emailing.
ditto, dear.
and now for something different...
completely different?
it would appear some Thai woman has clawed her way into my younger bro's life. he has taken to 'popping' over there whenever he can.
Thai women are people too... could be a good thing.
i am afraid she is one of the women whom we see, entrap an aussie male, in order to obtain a ticket to ozland.
I hope that won't be the case
if she does come here, unfortunately, she will be under the microscope. not just me and my family, but immigration.
if she is on the up and up, that won't be a problem. And if she isn't, it will be a good thing.
my bro is getting over a separation from the mother of his son. his heart is wide open.
ouch, yes, that makes him vulnerable
plus, i seriously think my little bro is missing a few acres in his top paddock...like his uncle, my mother's bro.
all the lights on but nobody home?
my bro functions very well usually. but he has displayed a very simplistic attitude to some things which have left me wondering.
he is very gifted in the IT industry..and that makes it difficult to make an informed opinion.
well, at least he has your support in case things go wrong
don's eldest, his son with aspberger's? he is very gifted with computers too.
xoxox, sprite...yes he does.
it seems if the 'social' aspects are missing, the intelllectual aspects surface. like in " rain man ".
*hugs*
'sigh' thanx my darling
yeah the way I understand it, social interaction is often too much for people with asperger's. Too much input blocks output. And they are often so damn smart.
so....how is hubby? is he feeling any better?
he is, a little. still a very sore throat and no energy. But no fever and definitely a little bit more lively.
good...and you, darling...can you cope with another day with no back-up?
tbh... I am beyond feeling what I can and cannot cope with. Just pushing through. I hope Rob can cook tonight. That would be so awesome.
awwww, my dear. again i wish i lived next door.
oops...dinner nearly ready. couple of minutes to go....from the cook...lol
so do I!!! And not just for now :D
fireflies. Nice little grid. Not too evil.
WTG SPRITE!!!
you go and enjoy your dinner :) I think I'll go answer my emails and then lie down for a bit again. *hugs* my dear friend.
{{hugs}} and {{kisses}} my darling.
and i am outta here. xoxox to all who follow. lovely little grid for once.
I have ch7 and ha7 which 7 am I missing, please?
Hi Marc - sorry I don't have any 7s yet.

Yes, you must be for for travelling
nice, chrissie. good to hear.
whoot, chrissie. i hope your time there is amazing. how long are you there?
is frogface on her own?
They are separate but good friends. Working their way through things. I do hope they can find a way foward
We came Christmas Eve and go home tomorrow. It has been a lovely time and I will be very sad to leave
chrissie...the other half needs to hear that you do not bear him a grudge. i know it is difficult...but...ultimately....it is frogface's happiness we want...right?
Was trying to say you must be fit for travelling
Yes
we can only stand in the wings...giving support where it is needed...how do i know? have a couple of situations amongst my closest and dearest.
so my dear chrissie...take a deep breath...and say what is needed. as i have done....i do so hope it is not a decision i will regret...but i know...i have done what i felt was right.
btw...love your latest photo of the grand-daughter. such a cutie!!!
Thanks rose
AND you are special, hin. xoxox to you
Must go now. Lovely to catch you rose. I don't chat so much now as feel the chog is being watched and judged! Take care x

Hello! Any ideas on stats for the E in the second column?
en4/6
and et4/6
Ta - and stats for the 8?
don't have it and only have one 7 ad7
I also have a ch7
ch7/36
ty looking
Well!. That was a lovely morning! had to spend 3 hours removing viruses form my computer:( Finally tracked it down to a real sneaky browser-specific virus cluster and had to toss Google Chrome in its entirety to get rid of the blasted thing!
matty, make the ch7 a pl
I am on IE for now till I can shake the last of the digital infection out of things:(
good for you crossy, at least you know how to fix things like that
Lordy, I'm an idiot sometimes
What gets me is the people who create viruses like that. Damn things cause chaos!
I had the ch6/24 and did not think to add an N for the ch7
nasty little grid. bbl
And I just realised, thanks to what you said, that I could take the N away
hello
((ruby))
{{crossy}} and it's even Tuesday!
My Ruby Tuesday!
Now to see if I have this repaired...do not wish to be stuck with IE any longer than I have to be.
I think we have Canadian weather -- it's getting very cold but at least the sun is shining and we have plenty of wood for this unheated house
Not quite, ruby, lol. it is minus 10c and we got a foot of snow last night:))
Our skiers are happy:)
I guess not. LOL
Still much warmer that it should be at this time of year.
We have a little bit of snow on the ground, two days of 4+ inches, but not such a big deal.
Going into January we used to have our minus 20's but not any longer:(
I shouldn't complain; it's certainly better than Binghamton,NY
Though we got our downtown ice sculptures finished:)
The weather has changed a lot since we moved here 15 yrs. ago. Much less snow and warmer winters
Artists who have that skill carve all kinds of things out of blocks of ice and we place them on each corner of the main downtown road for winter decoration
Are the sculptures illuminated?
some are, yes
they are very beautiful
I've only seen those in movies (Groundhog Day) and in photos on the Internet
One is a lighthouse, another is Santa's sleigh and another is of a timber wolf-- my favorite:)
off I go, waiting for the woodman to arrive. Have already used two stere this year!
There are about a dozen in all. I will try to get pics of a few of them and post them on my website for you all to see if you wish
*woof* with a wolfish twist
When we used to heat with wood alone we had to get 5 bush cord of hard wood and two face cord of soft for one season
We all smelled of smoke and there was bark and bugs everywhere, but I do miss it. it is a comforting heat.
Ok, testing a new chrome install...
please may I have a clue for VE 5/20 and HA 5/14
Yaaa! Got it!! Damn viruses are outta here! Take that you ugly virus! Whose your daddy? lol.. only took 3 hours... lol
There are two VE5/20s
clue for the first st6/24 pls
I have one, but not the other (one is sort of like taking retribution the first time - not reve*** but just plain old ve***)
Phae - it's really smelly
nm
I have one matty, I have the one that you can put RE in front off, so the other one please
lol....ty matty
done
I don't have the other one - sorry!
the other ve5/20 sounds like ca*** the ball and run
many thanks
TY! Down to two - te4/6 and te5/14
it is interesting--for those who care or wish to take note: The new breed of computer virus does not embed itself in you program files per se, but instead hides itself in the setting of the browser you were using at the time of infection. this made it invisible to ad-ware and virus removal programs. Even if you went into Regedit you would not have seen it. All you would of seen would be your browser installation package;) very insidious it was:( Ill be quiet now, but forewarned is forearmed:)
Got the 4 now, just the 5 left
go fishing matty for the 5
yw
haets
Thanks crossy...had an attack of Trojans last month.
Thanks chubby! Fishing successful - all done (and before 10 am too)
wtg matty
yes, Phae, so always check the bowser you used at the time of the infection. You will save the agony I went through this morning
I had to take it in...not savvy enough to self fix.
Should have heard me cursing at this bucket of bolts this morning:)
the infection was so bad that babble was unplayable!
been there...lol
Good day to all.
Howdy, scrabby!
What I hate, is not knowing where I picked it up so I don't go back there
Hi Scrabs
well, I knew, and I should have known better:(
I see your advice, Crossy. So what is the defense? And the fix?
And how did you get it in the first place?
The defence is not to use a torrent site like I did, and the fix is to uninstall the browser you were using at the time, run Malwarebytes and ccleaner, then re-install your browser
'waiting on pins and needles for the guru to speak'
lol, no guru; i do 100 things wrong to find that fix
I don't think I use torrent sites.
'torrent site'?
You ar better off not knowing, phae, you can google a bit of info on them, but it is basically site where you get free software--illegally
I never do that.
Now I remember why I stopped using them 10 years ago lol
ahh...not my thing. :-)...I try not to download anything except updates.
Hi All! Scrabs, how are you feeling?
The burned hand teaches best:)
hagd all!
must do a restart, brb
Tired and some abd cramping, but MUCH better. Saturday afternoon, evening, and overnight were terrible.
{[gentle hugs}}
What about your browser bookmarks & add-ons if you delete your old browser you will lose them all?
At least it was quick even though it was intense. It made me think about people that are chronically ill, e.g. undergoing cancer chemo.
You are incredible.
Nope. We all get sick. But the chronically ill--everyday is a challenge.
phantom: penchant
Ah, yes, I see it.
I clear all add-ons and bookmarks, and re-install them a fterwards
Now, can you fix my dripping bathroom faucet, Crossy?
i could, if I was tere:)
there
I think I can do it but I am scared. Turn off water, take handle off, pull cartridge out, bring to hardware store for replacement, replace, recap, turn water on....my fear is turning water off or on will be a problem as I must turn off at entry to home and is it too rusty?
Most taps/faucets here have a small like screw on the pipework you can turn off individual pipes for easy replacements of washers etc.
Not this sink--no water valve underneath, so I must go to the source.
spray water shut off valve with WD-40 first to lubricate it if it has not been used in a while
and when you remove the tap, there will be a worn out rubber washer, that is what you need to change. You can get a pack of them at your plumbing store for 5 dollars or so
The washer is held fast with a single screw on the base of the tab
tap
bring entire tap assembly into the shop so you get the correct washers
Good advice with WD-40. I have watched several videos so I feel like I am ready to do it.
let the WD-40 work on the shut-off valve for a few minutes first. They can be a pain if they have not been used in many years
and just in case, identify the shut off valve to the main outside your home
WD-40 is excellent stuff. I use GT-85 which is just as good.
if you can find it
Hm, outside the house....
if it is a bathroom sink, there is usually a feed valve for it in with the hot water heater as well
since most bathroom sinkes are plumbed from there
it is a pain they did not install a sink shut-off under the sink itself:(
It would be easier if I had a turn-off valve under this sink but I don't.
snap
morning! any clue for the ve6?
Ah! got it by myself - must be the good vibes of the chat :)
I don't have it.
usually with an RE at the start, plural of getting back at someone
I must head off for a bit, bbl, and good luck with changing that washer, scrabby. i know you will be fine:)

hi all
plenty of "oh be joyful" I bet, hey soodle?
hi suefrad.
Well, the minor Soodleites will be going out & painting the town red. Their elderly mother will sitting in, knitting & gazing into the fire. Unless, of course, she gets a better offer.....

I received a surprise Christmas gift of a DVD called The Magic Of Belle Isle' today. I played hookey from work today & stayed in bed to watch it. It was wonderful. I bawled at the end of it. I can only guess who sent it, as there was no note with it, but the person who chose it for me knows me pretty well. And I thank her for it.

I really wanted to do an Honor Blackman clue but figured the US wouldn't know it - or be too young!
As usual, behind the times, but I can highly recommend a TV series called Broadchurch, if you guys in the States can get it.
They made Gracepoint - the US version of Broadchurch - apparently didn't go down well. Saw Braodchurch months ago - that was terrific!
my screen when playing babble started appearing weird a few days back.. restarted computer, but same thing. using Google chrome....anyone else have an issue withe tile stats being irregularly laid out?
Not me Babs - but I use Chrome all the time anyway
chog only shows about 10 entries too...wonder what could be wrong?
I liked Gracepoint. I'm not a big fan of BBC shows.
Broad church wasn't BBC
Yay! there is a second series of Braodchurch coming soon.
that is it for me. FW
You are right, darkside. It was an ITV production. Apologies. My recommendation to watch it still stands.
And well done Sue! Yay!
No apologies needed from you Soodle. I was the one being taken issue with. I mentioned BBC. Should have said I am not a fan of British television shows.
Good evening all!
Any clues for the 8-letter word?
To admonish, Rolo. Frequent Babblers are familiar with the word. 😛
Admonish being the Ch7/36. . Extend for the 8/50...
Alternatively, pop a c in front of the H 7/32...

Yay Gramma. Well done.
It was quick and easy.

TY Soodle!
So...22.50pm Dec 30th. I've just been informed there is to be a party Chez Soodle tomorrow. 'Don't worry Mam! We'll look after everything'. So much for a quiet night knitting.
I must go off now & prepare for what tomorrow night will bring... God help me. Poof
Good luck!
Just starting here in the clear-skied great Northwest with the wind out of the east at this time.
