Hi all
xoxox my dearest liz girl.
Have to laugh. At exactly midnight, we had the biggest storm! 78mm rain in 2 hours. It certainly shut the neighbours up!
Hope you all enjoyed NYE.
Or are still enjoying it!

Pool actually overflowed.
And the paddock behind the house is green.
hi Liz, Happy New Year to you

ty
our grass is still growing...as you watch...a combo of rain and warmth...dandelions are knee high. poor don...he has to mow the grass...at this time of year.
Our grass is pretty long too and too wet to cut right now.
don is sitting here with a really bad headache...his sinuses are aching. i am applying cold packs as his forehead and cheeks are scarlet.
Poor Don. Hope he feels much better very soon.
but....i am feeling good. started the day with a long lie-in. read and dozed. then i did the dishes....and completely all the clean laundry...of two weeks. folded, sorted, and ironed. the watched 2 episodes of my new downton abbey dvd. then a lovely big grid...and all my friends.
Sounds great. I've been totally lazy. In fact I've been like that for the past week. Just waiting for all the tourists to leave!
lol...and i slept right through all the fireworks in a neighbouring oval. not a bang did i hear..
Lol. We watched the Sydney fireworks with a bottle of champers. Then this morning watched the London fireworks streamed live.
nice, liz. are you enjoying the grid? it is a lovely easy one.
Thunder kept me awake when I did get to bed last night.
I've slowed down with 70 left.

clues for the h 's have hi 7/32
pa joseph
he4, 5 part of foot
he5 hair color
Une, The calendar is up on the fridge...The dogs are just precious
sorry, meant the h 7's
ooohhh glad you like it -- wish there were a way to include them all but at least that's a sampling :-)
hi une
he7 dogs
hey je:-)
pa10/77
not that i have it
thanks une...forgot to plural
pa9/60 right in front so the 10 is probably a pural
:-)
well that shows my ignorance about dogs
he6 is a hunting dog . . .
clued earlier...uses the entire second column for the 9
i can think of cattle starting with he. . . .:) yippekiyoo!
hi7 hi + consonant + se4/4
LOL!!
je, starts with foot part
ty ty une *looks*
that's a breed of dog?
kinda demeaning name. . .
yep
shall we start a petition to rename them something more noble?
hmmmm apparently it's a nickname for a cattle dog
it worked for the rottweiler owners
hi 7 is breed of dog or he 7?
based on practice of moving reluctant cattle by nipping at their heels
oh so its just another slur word that enable loves so well. . . .haha
he7 is dog plural
pb for you my dear une
oops PB for me!
haha
could you start a fresh pot of coffee while you are there dear?
was copying text from wikipedia :-)
indeed!!
copy and paste is dangerous!
also happy to share some leftover xmas cookies!
so catch me up une. . . how is the dog rescue business? any great rescues recently?
mmmmmm sugar cookies. . ..
one of my daughter's mint chocolate brownies perhaps?
please *crumbs spilling out of mouth*
mmmmmm minty
je, i'm driving a couple of rescues every weekend -- and of course I fall in love with them all!
name that proper noun, river in Germany
rhine
haha i know you do une that is what makes you so special
ding ding ding!!!
:-)
where do you drive them?
Une is in the grid. Beignets for Une!
haha i saw une's answer before annie's question and thought she had written a word! haha
*grabs a beignet and runs to the corner to eat it*
happy new year molls
babs, i participate in transports that can go as long as 3 days -- each driver takes a 1-2hr leg
beignets . . . yum
with hot chicory cooffee!!
so do you use one car the whole way or transfer the dog from car to car?
Happy New Year to you JMC. And yes Une, lots of chicory in the coffee.
ah...so moving dogs to foster care or permanent home?
mmmmm chicory
car to car
gtg 2 year old great niece is calling
bye all!!!
and sometime pilots take them long distances in their private planes
bye jmc
bye je!
wow...elaborate process
It's The Canine Underground Railroad : D
pilots usually are flying them if they need to go a long distance out west
indeed molly!
i am back
babs, more and more people are getting involved
is this starting from your city only or a part of a larger multi-state process?
what's it called?
no, starts in another city -- often going south to north -- LA/MS/AR/TX north -- and sometimes to Ontario
it's lots of different rescue groups . . . i make sure to only drive for very reputable folks who've been doing this for yrs
is ai 7 a compound word
?
nm
sort of fan
without oxygen
hi annie
oh, and pitbulls are often rescued from Miami Dade animal control and transported north as well
i found it already:)
hi fan, happy new year
same to you annie:)
do you ever get concerned about being bitten by the dogs?
the process is usually to rescue from local shelter, place with foster for at least a couple of weeks, sometimes treat wounds, etc. -- all before heading to adopter
nice! Some people must be assigned to organize the whole process.
my only bad bite was a miniature doxie who didn't want to come out of his crate!! LOL
DR6?
got bit this year myself when I put my hand between a new dog in the neighborhood on a leash and my little dog who had suddenly gotten fierce with him...lots of punctures.
yes, there are transport coordinators all around the US who set up the various runs
yikes
99% of the dogs are soooo sweet and affectionate
oops need to get going -- BBL :-)
i'm sure..they can get scared of course and try to protect themselves. like the doxie
don't have dr 6, mlf
ty babs
oh..found it. d + train tracks
good morning! happy New Year! and happy long grid!
dr 5 and 6 actually and ty babs
hi enom

And thank you for that. I get tired of the 19 months, 36 months, 38 months...just round it off
judi you are so talented is it easy to play on the tablet?
extension of the pa 4/5
serai
its pa 4 6 6 9 10(plural
sorry!
Now it is MLF. I just had to locate the evil malware that was preventing the proper functioning. *hands on hips, cape flowing in the wind*
i have a granddaughter who is 21 months and she was here for 5 days with us when her newborn brother had surgery. we drew pictures(she draws circles) together, we built houses with blocks which we then knocked down, we built a train track and played with that, we read books. we danced and sang and did the hokey pokey and i loved it.
but there is a big difference between an 18 month old and two year old. . . haha
And Happy New Year to all my fine Babble buds!
well done judi!
judi did you get rid of the malware ?
wow. those pa words. must look to see what it might be.
Thanks, annie..didn't have that one
jmc i forgot i was talking to a 2 yr old lol
Yes, MLF. It was something that was buried in a System 86 file. grrrrr.
pa 4 + second column
ooo the hokey pokey. . . one of my favs. . . she just did teapot which was my mother's fav
h
judi that doesnt sound pleasant?
mkg need some more help?
It only took me a week to figure it out, MLF. I was pretty twitchy not being able to play Babble.
system 86 file? *trembles in fear*
yes since i have three 4/5 pa words.
ooh, thanks, Babs
any computer file makes me tremble
judi i want an ipad so badly but that scares me lol
mkg double cons at the end of the pa 4/5 you need
i bet judi. . . I have gotten where i don't have to play everyday since i was working 10 hour days and then doing other work on top of it. . . but now that i am laid off i should be able to get into my babble rhythm again. . .
i have an ipad, but rarely use it..
It is the mouse that scares me
mlf the yoda of babbleland!
babs why dont you use it that much?
hi ruru, hny
mlfan, what is the meaning of the pa 4 5? that would help.
I use my Ipad every day. love it
Hi annie
jmc huh?
*eek* A MOUSE!
i just got the 9 and 10. ty ty ty. just kept trying each of them.
teasing about your 9:27 clue
don't know except keyboard and files on my computer maybe? like being able to open multiple tabs easier on computer?
mkg please pa** me the mashed potatoes?
I've only heard good things about IPads, JMC. As long as you have some good virus/malware/adware protection loaded onto the tablet you'll have good results. I'm a big fan of AVG 2015 and Windows Defender.
jmc you know me i try lol
i just looked up the meaning of the 9 and 10 and my husband already knew what is meant........darn that yale education. he knows all the words.
ty ty mlfan. got them now.
i've never needed any protection for Mac or ipad
judi i tried to get a free version of that and no luck
mkg yoow
I will still to PCs but ty judi
avg is no longer free :-(
so i noticed
what a bummer i liked it
i would have given them money to keep them free. . . if you konw what i mean
Words like pa 10 are for the birds
jmc same here .. i know i sound cheap but i refuse to pay for virus protection
AVG has a sample download. It scans your computer, tells you all the junk it found and then prompts you to buy the protection to get rid of it all. LOL. However, it is relatively inexpensive and really does an excellent job.
is that a clue or a complaint ru
and happy new year ru
I got it right away, so clue
a clue for sure
judi still wont pay
Plus, it comes with firewall protection, so your passwords and personal / financial information is encrypted from any potential hackers.
hi rasta
well my computer is old enough to have the last free version of avg. . . i may break down next computer
and that got me nbs! thanks, ru
Hi
hi rasta happy new year
as they all should do that judi;)
ty cold cold cold here
I used to be able to open a second window to cut and paste words into lickety's tool...now when I do that if I go back to the window I"m playing in and return to second window, the pastings are gone...did something change or I'm doing something different?
i afraid all my time off from babble results in me not getting simple clues. . . *sigh* *looking*
a balmy 36 here in the shenadoah valley
It's a ggod clue if you *know* the word pa10. If not, maybe no help.
the pa 10 is a real word?
i probably do. . . haha. . . it will come to me yet
we've awoken to 3F here in Northern NV
We are ten degrees colder than that back here in Metropolis, JMC
better than 0 yesterday, thoughlol
yes, real word about perching critters
well then i am happy i is in the valley. . . the valley so low. . . .hang your head over and hear the wind blow. . . .
But it's supposed to be 66 on Sunday so no complaints from me : D

sh5 + two vowels
Off to breakfast! *POOF*
That is for the first sh7
nbs
bye judi
politically incorrect
sorry i have no sh7s
another is pt of a cooking verb
sh7---in sewing parlance, to gather fabric together, past tense
oh, it's a sewing verb too! didn't know that. Don't sew.
ty annie
thanks annie and marc!

but didn't you have a dress with a sh7 top as a child?
we called that smocking, no?
think so rast
its another term for the same thing . . . .
i suspect the different words came from different cultures. . .
Eggs always come before sewing in my world
good point molls
stats for the e in the third row pl***
haha overkill. . . please
Great...now I have the damn valley song stuck in my head...
en5/12
ty rasta
want a different song?
No, it reminds me of spirituals and I'm taking down the tree. So I think I'll bust into a chorus of Bringing In The Sheaves.
works for me. . . bringing in the sheaves. . . we will come rejooooooysing. . . bringing in the sheaves
I have an awesome pot of black-eyed peas on, it smells good in here.
taking a break, 80 left
mmmm black-eyed peas. . .
bye annie and happy new year
ack...black-eyed peas are gross
what do you have for greens (peas for luck and greens for money)?
un 7/40?

oops..just got it, thought I had put in before
ty annie i am planning on it!
ty jmc...hny to you too
UN 7/40 Not renting a car?

Black-eyed peas are not gross when you cook then with ham, onion, garlic, celery and a little green pepper.

I do cabbage for "greens" as I am not a collards person.
happy new year zooz!

Happy new year to all Babblers!

but i do like the brazilian style of cooking collards
bye phae
ty zooz
making me hungry for some chard this a.m.like to quickly saute with balsamic vinegar.
you jullian the collards and then cook them with garlic in olive oil. . . a whole different experience
Brazilian style?
*imagining everyone busily rolling up collard leafs and julianing them*
I give my bunnies collard greens...all kinds of greens.
Some of them might even julienne them...
hi scrabs! happy new year!
Yes, Erda!
haha. . . i never claimed i could spell erda. . . happy new year!
Same to you -- all of you!
if the boy were here i would have asked him. . . i have been asking him how to spell things since he was 7
The bunnies and I went to bed at 10pm and were rudely awoken, as we are every NYE, by fireworks x 30 minutes from the ski resort across the valley, from 10:30-11. Grrrr. Boom, boom.
I love fireworks. It's the sound of celebration.
could have be** worse. . . could have happened at midnight and gone on to one. . .
Congrats, Molly!
No Zoom, I just meant I love fireworks. On New Years, 4th of July, whenever.
i love fireworks too but none here in the shenadoah valley. . .
They do a torch parade down the slopes, and have fireworks. Then everyone can be inside to watch TV and get drunk.
Ok I see :-)
well good that they get drunk after the fireworks and the skiing! haha
A torch parade down the slopes must be beautiful.
OH not ok.
i bet the torch parade down the slopes must be pretty
Drunk skiers and boarders are common hazards.
jinx
You owe me a shot of Jack
keeps the emt employed!
haha if you ever come over i will give you one!
emp?
I wouldn't ski if someone paid me to.
Our little local hospital, 8 miles away, has a helicopter service to take seriously ill and injured folks into BUffalo.
i wish i had learned at a young age. . . i finally managed to cross country but am afraid to try downhill
i think i would have loved the sense of speed if i had a sense of control. . . .its why i don't like roller coasters. . . no sense of control
I skied from 17-23, then life got in the way. I wouldn't do it again, although I think about it.
I stick to XC-skiing and snowshoeing.
17-23 is probably a good time to ski. . .the boy (29) still does it and snow boarding but not drunk. . . he wants to enjoy it
are the os4's fish?
brb
I have 2 worries: ice patches and crazy young skiers/boarders going too fast
back
yes the boy complains about skiers and boarders who know no boundaries. . .
although i suspect there may be an element of the pot calling the kettle black. . . .
There are terrain parks---3 at this place--where the tricksters can go wild.
stats for the third column n for nbt please
good idea scrabs. . .
ni4/4 and ni4/6 are what I have
off the right hand N???
NE4 & 5
ty zooz
nbt but i am not sure that ne4 is a word
NE 4/6
And don't for get the loch monster!
apparently it is a word . . .and one i should know. . .
ne4 tide
alternate spelling
haha. . . dear me. . .lots of fish floating. . .

I'm channeling Lowell George with the hit and run thing...Little Feat that is...
he wasn't in GWTW ruru
they were a great band.. great songwriter too
that was a joke phaeton.. H. Stern plays fartman.. it was a play on that
They still are a great band. Gone through a lot of changes though.
George died though didn't he?
Yes, right here in the DC area, alas.
phae i am looking...
not into H. Stern...think he is disgusting
I thought so.. I seem to remember Bonnie Raitt commenting on it somewhere
I''m not into howard stern either.. glad he's on satellite .. as I' wont' have to listen to him there
i like his wife though
I think he's disgusting too phaeton.. not my style of humor
phae did you find it yet?

ty molly
iflipper
damn it
I don't know, is something happening here?
What it is ain't exactly clear..
there's a man with a gun over there (at a wallmart)..
gosh.. today feels like a Sunday
Did you hear about the toddler who shot his mother in a Walmart? The idiot woman was carrying a handgun in her purse and the kid dug it out and accidentally shot her.
I read about that.. why wasn't her safety on.. who takes a gun out shopping with a small child.. what an idiot
why wasn't she watching her kid either
also
Happy New Year Everyone
good morning ms dance
This will hopefully be my last day of pain - they moved my surgery up to tomorrow......last minute call. No time to get nervous now!
Hope all goes well with the surgery
The kid is ruined for life, I suspect. Emotional baggage? How about carrying around "I killed my mother" your whole life?
no kidding molly
this is the hip surgery river? I hope it goes well too
yes I am getting a new left hip....yay! Wow, was just reading back about that shooting. What the h*** is a Mom doing with a loaded gun in her bag.
that's the question.. she was licensed to carry a firearm as she worked for the Defense Dept. but still.. why not keep your purse on your arm if you have a gun and why wasn't the safety latch on? She's incredibly stupid and now dead because of it. That poor kid is never going to be the same.
If you are anywhere near a young child you carry a firearm on your person. Period.
I think you mean never molly
I mean Kids scare me.. but I wouldn't be packin' because of it :D
No, I meant that if she is required to carry a firearm at all times (which I doubt she was) it should be strapped to her and not in her purse.
oh.. well.. that would have been better too I guess
I don't think I read she has to carry one at all times.. but I don't know for certain.. likely she just carries it in her purse and left it there.. I don't really know
The story I saw said her husband got her a special handbag to carry the gun!
Happy New Year all!
But only a complete moron would leave it right next to the kid AND with the safty off!..Must have been small and light for a small kid to pick it up and fire it!
hi all. I wish my Babble friends a wonderful 2015!
yeah.. I think I read the kid was 2 or something?
70 left and no list so far
I wonder how her husband feels about that purse now?
The noise must have scared him too!
One thing I know for sure, if they need a gun or not, they WILL get a gun and enough ammo to kill everyone within 5 miles!
need" to have one.
yeah.. it's easier to get a gun than a pack of cigarettes at a walmart
Uh, not quite
Depends on the location...There are a few states that still don't allow it!
I was being facetious
Sadly it is stories like this one that make people in other countries think that American's are a bunch of gun toting idiots.
there are gun toting idiots in every country sadly
Both her and her husband were gun enthusiasts. They had hunting licenses and had a special license to carry concealed guns. The purse had a pocket specifically for carrying a concealed firearm. The purse was left unattended and a curious toddler reached in unzipped the purse and shot. Tragic.
Yes, I knew you were shissing your face : P
Well we do have a lot of them!...And they talk about it, and walk around with BIG guns in their arms!
Damn, I must be missing all the gunslingers walking down the street.
I think a lot of people are getting them because an idiot neighbor did and they want them to save themselves from him!
Go to Arizona molly.. they walk into restaurants with Guns
at least the toddler didn't shoot itself
happened in idaho
I'm waiting for the day, one of these freaks is in a movie theater or mall, and someone pulls a gun out, and they want to be heroes!...Sure way to have a lot of inncents killed or hurt and the "hero" will be killed because the cops, or anyone else, do not know he is a hero!
really Hoot.. Arnold and Sly can't be everywhere
yup!
in other news.. the guy who created Viagra was Knighted by the Queen
I heard he was a little stiff at the ceremony
Yes, sorry for bringing an "unpleasant" topic up. : O
Bah-dum-ching!
Not a problem Moll!..It should be talked about. Not ignored.
<--a little BBC humor
there are a lot of whacko gun nuts in Idaho.. so the location doesn't surprise me to be honest
racists, neo-Nazi types etc
The problem is, there is a responsible way to own firearms and all we hear about are the idiots.
sure.. if someone takes extensive safety lessons and precautions.. I don't have a problem with owning guns.. it's just that it's too easy to get them
It's not just Idaho ru..It's any place they can be AWAY from prying eyes and fo whatever they want! Mountains are good places to move into.
Well... I've been to Sandpoint Idaho a few times hoot and I can tell you there aren't any rap records being played there
They probably get a little stir crazy digging up all those potatoes. : D
they keep saying it is apeeling to live there
groan
ha... my first groan of 2015
however i hear car engines spudder a lot
all the high school kids get mashed on weekends
you can't even fry to stop them
people of Idaho appreciate living there and don't take anything for gratin
I hear they launched a new space station: The Spudnik
hello…anyspud?
i'm out of potato puns
There's a sense of weevil here.
I don't cotton to that statement judi
Let the chips fall where they may.
You people bole me over
Open your eyes, ruru.......
i know a couple idaho people…i get the feeling all they watch is starch trek. They might like Star Wars because of Darth Tater…
ha
You're good, kni. Very good. I think we need to let you into the pun club.
people in Idaho when they lose sensation call it : I have the pringles
Frankly, scallop, I don't give a damn.

Every 2 years car
I get the gist of it, can't make a word for it.
Think the 200th anniversary of the usa
Got it! was trying to get some form of "annual" in there instead. TY
hello, and nye, joiners. i am cooking, so wandering i n and out
Hello TO
HNY all
and HNY to you!
must go, very afraid i will ruin this roast. see you later!
No ruined roast here. I've had my pork roast, black-eyed peas and cabbage. Bring on the good luck and money!!
:)
I'm roasting a chicken later
I'm not afraid of roasting either
I roast a chicken every other week. I get lots of meals out of it. And chicken for salads.
And stock, but I'm kind of stocked up on stock right now. Still working through the turkey stock from Thanksgiving.
I was going to make some stock after I demolish this chicken actually
I have left over stuff to make stock with
I hear the food trendies are calling it "bone broth" now. That made me laugh.
bone broth?
No joke
wow
that's a marrow way of thinking I guess
Like people haven't been putting bones in water to make soup for thousands of years
But I guess when you've spent your life opening a can of Campbell's, "bone broth" sounds intriguing.
well.. that's a new one on me
Next up? Coffee bean broth.
clear hydrogen broth
tea broth
well, there is vegetable broth, to distinguish it
not everyone uses the bones. It's hard to find beef with the bone still in it, anymore
I know, I hunt for it
And stuff like miso, broth without a bone in sight. Not so foolish
or there's broth made from a packet of chemicals - lots of people use that instead of real bones.
You can get beef bones if you ask the butcher at the grocery store.
*pokes nose in* happy new year all -- hope you are having a good start to 2015!
Hello again
hey car *backflip*
How nimble :)
how are you?
happy new year!
HNY to you too! I am well...very full tummy from deliciuos food all day
:-) We ate pancakes earlier, but nothing since.
Hubby has been making yummy things all day
nice!
it's only 4:30, but we are starting to talk about whether we want to use the cranberries in the freezer for relish, or just eat whatever is available.
down to 15 (listed at 80) but need an eyeball break. I have all the words from i up to u if you want anything?
down to 9 and all the 8s in hand. back later *poof*
Enjoy!
FINISHED!! VERY EXCELLENT!!
Well done! Congrats!
AS 6/21 clue please?
Like the Gone With The Wind guy, different last letter
There are two as6/21, the other one is not awake
good clue molly -- was trying to think of something!
hello everyone :-)
I need the GWTW guy...trying to figure it out now. TY
Hi Cybernan! HNY
Got it!
happy new year, car and everyone that I didn't greet last night
It's funny how all people can think of is Rhett. Scarlett talks about As6/21 constantly.
sounds like everyone is having turkey or turkey leftovers for dinner!
We had lovely Mexican Corn Chowder!
we had turkey at Christmas -- Beef Wellington tonight.
Clue for the last NA 6/18 please?
Ends like little orange citrus fruit
TY, was all around it.
OB 5/14 please?
Turkey for New Year's? People eat a lot of turkey over the holidays. We only do turkey on Thanksgiving.
our Thanksgiving is much earlier than yours, Molly
think fat, car...
'Round these parts it's tradition to have pork on New Year's Day.
I agree though that all the holiday food could make one ob 5/14!
Ugh...ty...trying NOT to think of fat starting tomorrow.
Isn't ham traditional for Christmas in the US?
I don't know. We have beef tenderloin for Christmas.
To me, ham is more of an Easter dinner.
We also have beef. Ham for Easter
we often have some sort of beef roast at Christmas...
grew up in a family that always had turkey for Christmas
I started serving the tenderloin at New Year with my own family -- hubby was sick of turkey by then!
we rarely had turkey other than on Thanksgiving...
I don't like turkey enough to have it for Thanksgiving and then turn around and have another one on Christmas.
SA 6/18...the one before salt please?
pork and sauerkraut for New Years
Change the last vowel
We often will get a turkey at the great sale prices at Thanksgiving and save it until New Years or our Super Bowl Party
We have turkey on both, but then they are a couple of months apart here and it is the only time of the year that we have turkey as a rule.
<sl4> ty
love having turkey - good for lots of leftovers - get it whenever there is a good price on them
We don't have Thanksgiving here, so we don't usually have leftovers, so we get a hankering midway through the winter.
On the few occasions we go elsewhere for Thanksgiving, I do a turkey breast. Gotta have the turkey sandwich fixings the next day.
time for me to turn the oven on -- the nice part about beef wellington is that the prep work is already done!
Yum
Fireworks!
Can I clue anything before I go?
a clue for the last as 6 please?
i spent the holiday in Freeport....lunch with my brothers and we went together to LL Bean....first the discount store and then the flagship store....
Not awake
Molly beat me to it.
Sounds like fun, penquis!
I got my son some of those Wicked Good Slippers from LL Bean. He loves them.
duh - ty
cool....i bought some silk long johns at 50% off....
I loved mine too, but I have found that the quality of their shoes has gone Waaaaaay down. We have had to return so many in the last couple of years...slippers, rain boots, sneakers.
they're pink (yuck) but they don't show.... ;o)
But the good thing is that they will just replace them, but our closest store is an hour away
well at least it's a no hassle return...
Never had a quality problem with anything from LL Bean
and with a Beans credit card, it's free postage both ways...
Neither had we, until the shoes the last few years.
i returned a sweater once several years ago....
They are awesome about returns...just wish we didn't have the problems. I heard they are outsourcing a lot of things now :(
no idea...
I have to have a sale price and a discount code to shop LL Bean though. They are pricey.
agreed....i have the credit card, so i use coupons...
OK. I am off. HAGE all and HNY!
bye!
BCHNYTYT
WNTSJA
*thinking....thinking i could think forever and never figure that one out...*
I just can't figure out when it got so tiresome to actually spell out words
well i confess to using ty for thank you....yw for you're welcome...
airsled should be a word....Santa has one....
snafu,, scuba,,, we use tons of aronyms
*acronyms
Emcee: MC As long as everyone knows what they mean, why not?
er 7-8 please?
i think ty and yw are perfectly understood. Why is it a problem??
it did take me a while to figure out what HAGE meant...
don't need cofession.... no sin here
as long as future generations still know what th
it stands for, nothing
I had a hell of a time getting nbt and nbs - had to ask finally.
Will future generations get those?
I also need the er 7/8 and the first hi 7... have been looking for them for over an hour. *sigh* also, HNY all *wicked acronym-user look*
who knows? the future is kind of tough for me to predict
haha.. u2 ,stid *mirroring stid's wicked look*
:-D
I'm just questioning whether future understanding is a necessary requirement for current usage.....
hah. i wonder who would determine the requirements??
well... I can read the old German script (thanks to my grandmother) but most middle schoolers in the U.S. cannot even read normal cursive! So... I teach my kiddos in 3rd grade cursive, knowing that its utility is rapidly fading since most of their peers will not be able to decipher the characters.
my (former) school teaches cursive in second grade... seems a bit early, but everything seems to be accelerated now.
I think we should focus on whether the people with whom we are currently interacting can understand us, and leave future generations keys to understanding. After all, the meaning of middle ages paintings is harder for us to make out, but the meaning was clear (apparently) to the people at the time!
Someone can build a career out of deciphering old acronyms, along with old cursive lol
I think 2nd grade is a little early to think about mastery at least, Doren, but many of my students were so interested in cursive that they were "practicing" at home -- usually incorrectly, of course.
indeed, rasta! (LTNS - long time no see) Hope all is well on your side of the continent?
other than incredibly cold, all is well here
*wondering if a person lives on an island off a coast if that makes them "incontinent"*
Old english can be a hoot, but my Russian professor had us reading Old Russian, which was really fascinating... I mean, you're already at a bit of a disadvantage what with the Cyrilic alphabet and all that.
uncontinent? excontinent?
cold here, too. I moved my car about thirty minutes ago and the ice on the windshield was already pretty thick. Luckily was just in the driveway so didn't have to scrape.
wow. That would have been a hoot, doren!
Happy New Year Stid and family :-)
Happy New Year, nan! Thanks for the patented blast-o-cold from B.C.! :-) Brought snow to our mountains finally
well happy new year (or perhaps hny?) to everyone here (including the much maligned lurkers)!
Tom sends his love, nan
hey -- we got it from Alaska!
I am going to be a grandma finally - that's the news from NV
*ignoring lurkers and offering choclits to everyone else* *grin*
lurk-lurk
sure, blame it on the poor inuit...
I made Christmas pudding for the first (and probably last ) time in my life... quite an ordeal, but muchly delicious (the brandy butter went over big)
oooh! pippin de-cloaked!
Good EveningEveryone (& Happy New Year too!)
WOW rasta! That is marvelous news!
OH. the state of grandmadom is so very very lovely. congratulations
congrats rasta
Hey Nef! ((((((hugs))))) was looking at the books on my shelf last night and saw that interesting one on native plants. Really need to pick it up and finish reading it now that I have some cheaters from the drugstore that seem to work.
I will be 5000 mi away from this child, so a bit of a challenge to do the gma thing....
ooh -- did you use maple syrup or corn syrup for the brandy butter?
Congratulations, rasta!Being a Grandma is Fun (& sometimes a lot of work too)
to you too nef
bummer. Well, my grandmothers did a great job from 3000 miles away (before internet, but not before pony express).
my recipe called for butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and, of course, brandy
being a grandma is wonderful (sometimes the best part is being able to send them home!)
best of luck rasta... where there's a will there's a way, i'm sure
still looking for that er 7-8
