Hi Sprite ((hugs))
*hugs* right back at you. How are you at the moment?
Doing good same ole same ole lol
good :) Glad to hear it.
Waiting to hear from surgeon to get spot removed on arm. Which is just a minor thing. Everything is going well, and how are You doing?
I am fine! All is good here, except son still in occasional teenager moods. It will pass. Before he is 40, hopefully :)
Ha my son is 39 and it has not passed yet he turns 40 this year perhaps there is hope?
let's hope so, grin.
You are in the grid :)
What a circus! The painter/paperer finally came back (only a month delay|||||||||||), the electrician broke his arm or leg (I didn't hunderstand|), and the real gardener came to prune the cherry tree and the roses.
oh woopy, had not even noticed yet! So I am :D
And my dog hasn't stopped barking or my husband milling around.
This is my only quiet place
good morning ruby. Some mayhem :)
and the housekeepker, too!
{{sp***)}
all good things though. Breathe, stay calm and be ready to enjoy the fruit of their labours.
that was some ra**! orry
Duenna duena how do you spell that Spanish word?
For I think chaperone
yeah, double N for sure.
hi, meliae, I tried variouos forms of that, too. |No lck
Ok I will quit fussing with it then lol
you may try crossing your eyes to double that N, lol.
These meds kick in I won't need to try to cross my eyes lol
hahahaha... good stuff huh.
{{hugs}} sp6. {{hugs}} ruby. {{hugs}} melia. and i am back...col
hi dear friend :) *hugs* How was your dinner?
very nice. grilled chicken breast schnitzel with steamed vegs. tummy very full...
sounds delish
saw the surgeon today re don's shoulder. we have opted for a guided injection of his shoulder. then wait 2 months for review. the brachial tendon is what giving him all the trouble.
it was delish, hin...and not a lot of fat either.
ok... sounds good. Painful injection, but if it helps...
yeah...i made the surgeon laugh. i told him there is no 'jesus' handle on the x-ray table. he has asked for only a small amount of fluid with the drug. not the 200mls i had to endure.
lol!
if in 2 months there is no improvement...then we move to step 2. an MRI...
ok. Let's hope this does the trick.
i have emphasised to don...he has to be 100% well BEFORE i go to the ortho re my hips.
yes. You need him a 100% after.
besides, not a bad means of pressure to get him to look after that shoulder...
col....you think??
*serene smile*
sweetie...i did ask you in the email...but i hast to know...another fair night?
it was ok, I guess... some nightmares, but not all night long at least.
that wasn't supposed to be a stopper
sorry, hin. watching grand designs at the same time. they have built down into the earth. no obvious vent for the cook top. we were trying to work out what happens when they cook. does the whole house fill with the smell of cooking food?
ok darling, enjoy the show :)
it's almost done...i am glad your night wasn't totally nightmares.
me too
have you heard back from puglet yet?
not yet
okay....i hope she is okay.
perhaps working as much as she can to compensate for the days she will miss at work
i so hope she takes some down time post-op. she is going to have some pretty extensive surgery.
she won't. Can't spare the money, I think.
i did ask her what is happening with her sister...that is also a concern...maybe one of her other sisters will step up to the mark.
let's hope so. won't hurt them to do something for once.
fireflies
i cannot understand why they are not helping with the sister's care. such a strange thing!! no matter what....myself and my siblings would step up to help with the care of another family member. at least now...
WTG SP6!!!!!
dysfunctional parents often raise dysfunctional families... and are themselves raised in one...
mind you...i hard to tell my bros that i was physically unable to care for our mother. and then they stepped forward....
ugh....had...not hard....lol
it was hard tod o, lol
how is your day panning out?
don't know yet. Don't feel like anything, to be honest. Will email you about yesterday. Am a bit down and tired. Maybe just laundry, cleaning toilets and removing the last Xmas stuff.
{{hugs}} my darling. just rest your head here * points to shoulder* envelopes sp6 with loving arms.
now that is just what I need :D Scotty, beam me over!
*giggle* shuffles over...here scotty, right here.
ok, off then to answer emails. *hugs* for rose and mel. And to you all, a blessed day and a peaceful night.
hope your day is kind to you, my darling sp6. xoxox
bye all. i hope you enjoy the grid...

Morning Annie
or zooz (you can tell I still not awake)
morning, Molly
lol hello, Annie :-)
*Passes Annie some fresh brewed, high octane coffee*
hello zooz :)
Molly, McD's now is selling their brand of coffee, Have a fresh brewed cup in front of me.
I haven't had McDonald's coffee in ages. Is it good?
Yes, I like McD's coffee
And now it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!! Now, I have done this once before in my tidbits, but I think it is worth a second look, so here is another sampling of the worlds most beautiful doors! http://tinyurl.com/lf62p7q
Interesting how places like McDonald's and Dunkin Donuts have had their coffees carry over into grocery stores.
I now have 3 brands of coffee in my cupboard. Eight O'Clock, Dunkin Donuts and Mc Donalds. So far, McD is winning.
At our McD's it is a Newman's Own blend.
Hi car. Do you like Newman's Own brands?
Hello all!
I do like some. I am not a strong coffee person. My hubby loves the McDs coffee...and the price!
Me too!
I should learn to never get in the way of people and their coffee;)
Thanks for the heads up Annie, I will give the McCafe a try if it goes on sale.
especially in the morning, crossy
lol
Molly, If you do, there is a $1.00 coupon attached to the bag.
do you know if they have it k cups? and good morning
Hi ivesy, I dont know but I wasnt looking for K cups. They probably do. Lots of people have Keurigs.
Stats please for the M in the right column?
i will find out. i like mickey d coffee
MO 5/16
Got it! TY
Welcome :-)
Ivesy, they sell it in K cups because Amazon has it. But don't buy it there, their food prices are not competitive.
gm, everyone. clue for the pn?
I had to find out why McDonald's was deferring to Newman's Own when McDonald's has their own brand of coffee. It's the new "fair trade" craze.
ty molly. i will check prices at walmart. their coffee is usually cheaper
pn sounds like the beginning of a lung disease but ends in a vowel
ty, Molly
ty

hello again. Back from lunch
We have a Nespresso machine and it is the first time I've been able to ake decent coffee!
And their service is splendid, capsules to the door in 2-3 days
Hi (((ruby)))
i have looked at those ruby.. the coffee looks so good! and hello..
We bought the machine when we first arrived because husband used to make that awful Fr press coffee which was too weak
When my machines have broken down (we drink a lot of coffee) they have sent me free replacements.
i dont usually look for clues until i have gone through the puzzle a good go through, but you cant pass up a pn clue
Think I am going to go to the re-use centre and see if they have one of those old Perkulators everyone used to have. All they need is few TBS of a nice med grind dark roast and you are in coffee heaven:)

Two dogs pacing around the studio -- I feel like the zookeeper for the bears
McD coffee is is swill and not even suitable for removing stains from your toilet never mind actually drinking it.
that was harsh cross.
At least the stuff they make here is.
i like it
it is harsh, but true
actually my fave for the keurig is green mt. breakfast blend.. i am a big fan of timmy ho coffee but the kcups are too strong.

We used to have a chain called Country style, and they used to make good coffee, but Starbucks and Timmies killed them off.

Hi Trif
Morning Trif, how was your looong drive?
hey trif
Drive was made completely bearable by car.eeyores presence. She is a blessing
aaawwww
♪♫Sisters, sisters♫♪there were never such devoted sisters♪♫
I can't remember the last time she and I had such a chance to just talk and relax
We got REALLY lucky with road and traffic conditions too.
Really? And you two live so close to each other.
Somewhere around hour seven of the drive, tertiary texted to say she had been switched to morning swim practice, and would need a ride to the pool at 5:30 this morning. So, you know, that was fun....
I see an after school nap in my future
I just read this and I think it is amazing. It is written by John Nichols, a co-founder of the media reform group Free Press "We who practice and appreciate the right to freedom of expression must stand now and always in solidarity with every journalist in every country who challenges corruption, abuses of power, violence and the intolerance that underpins violence. We must do so in the defense of freedom of expression, in the name of pluralism and in the knowledge that without the liberty of wide-ranging and controversial discourse, there can be no real debate nor anything akin to true democracy." I hope this is ok to post.
I think that is wonderful, sue
It's great, but we in America forget that not all countries are a democracy.
true but we have to stand for something of fall.
Oh we do. We are ever present in countries that are not democratic, fighting for their right to be so.
that is why when i substitute at the schools, all my students stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. They dont have to say it, but they have to respect it in my room.
I think if you are afforded the luxury of going to school in this country and taking advantage of our great education system, you should honor the flag of the country you have chosen to live in.
Amen
I love this from the article also. "When French officials proposed in 2012 to block demonstrations against the magazine, the editor objected, asking: “Why should they prohibit these people from expressing themselves? We have the right to express ourselves, they have the right to express themselves, too.†It is why I dont make them say it. They will learn, I pray.
I just went into my laundry room and was reminded of a song "I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in And stops my mind from wandering Where it will go"
i am sorry for the long URL, it didnt do anything to mine and I didnt know it did anything wrong.
amuse
ty for the clue grant
i needed that one
oops, sorry
it seems i killed the chog
is there a key that will move the cursor over here without using the mouse?
try just the Tab key
aha that explains a lot Thank you
if you use the tab key, it makes you go down your word list and then will come to this box. if you go too far, the Shift Tab key will take you backwards.
ok, well i feel condemned and will take my leave
That sounds like a very long way to get from point A to point B
Feel condemned?
hello...stats for the lone M?

oh, ok
just looking for words :-)
ty
"Killing the chat" is a misnomer. Sometimes there is just a lull in conversation.
Grant, that is the only way I can see to get to the chat box. I will keep tapping around.
molly, you are right, there used to be the Alt + letter you could jump to, but i dont see it.
I have a blind student coming into my class, and we are finding the same thing on the new software. He doesnt use a mouse and it is getting hard for him to get around.
well time to get stuff done. love you all and I will see you later tonight.
later, sue :-)
Just wondering how this can happen accidentally. Many times folks including myself forget to go the other way after chogging and land in the PB.
A Google search on how to navigate a computer without a mouse will give you some interesting ideas. As for forgetting where your cursor is, that is just a matter of paying attention to your screen.
Of course, it's best to have done that search before you find yourself mouseless.
I'll have to do some reading because I'm not sure of what use a computer would be to someone who is blind. Unless there is audio software to assist.
Yep, audio programs, called "Screen Readers"
hello again

Scrabs, my husband is a Jet fan and he HATED Ryan as a coach.
Yes, and she saw him talking on TV. "We don't need a big mouth jerk, we need a great coach?"

Good afternoon Everyone. How are you today?
Great hello to you
combo word; sort of against scan, maybe?
back from shoveling - an9 against + what cops use to catch you speeding
Thanks got it
use Mary's clue, much easier to figure out
How much snow did you get, Mary?
only about 3" but drove over it last night so cleaned in up. Took me a little less than an hour.
We've hired someone to do our driveway & steps if it snows over 3 inches; I love it. Of course, last year they did it for more than 2 inches; but he had to raise the rates and amounts this year :-(
Tried to hire someone but he used a truck with a plow and rammed into the concrete flower box. So I do it myself with the help of my neighbor when it's a lot
No one who contracts for snow removal around here does it with a shovel. It's all done by plow or snow blower.
This guy used to use a plow, but now they only use snowblowers. 1 new feature this year is they actually clean the snow off the cars before they shovel. It's really made a difference (for me)not having to clean off the car and end up with a snow /ice hump at my cardoor
well by this summer I am planning on moving to Santa Fe NM. My son is building a casita (small house) for me on his property, so this is the last year (Ihope) for snow..Yeah.
Wow, lucky you
Good for you, Mary. I'd love to move south, but DH doesn't tolerate the heat (he has M.S.) and every time I think about it he says "they have bigger bugs down south." So, I stay here in MN
Can't wait but so much to do.
So Nef you see a lot of snow. I'm in Chicago area and last year was horrible. This year not bad, but it's still Jan.
Yeah, last year my 4 foot chain link fence was either invisible or maybe 6" high all winter (from Nov. through March. It wasn't pleasant
(last year was probably the worst one in 20 -30 years for us I think
Nef, couldn't you move somewhere with a milder (not hotter) climate. The severe cold in Minnesota can't be good for his MS either.
Actually, Molly, cold is good for him. He wears a cooling vest if he's outside in the summer.
finally, fireworks. does anyone need clues?
Oh, that is interesting. My nephew has MS and from what I have read about it, extreme temperatures either way seem to be a problem. I guess your husband is just used to the cold.
hi all.
any clues for the 9?
also need clues for a U word. please.
clued earlier an9/60 against + what cops use to catch speeders.

Good morning, all. Please, can anyone tell me how often the rankings are updated? I have been completing the grid for a couple of weeks now and my ranking (Who's hot) hasn't moved off 1005 - keen to get back to 1030 - I know it will take a month from when I didn't complete the grid but I would have expected some shift by now. I know I will survive this - not really important - but all the same, I'd be keen to know.
:)
it's sort of autobiographical, a story of a young woman off to university
I don't know anything about the ratings but someone may beable to help, dofith.
hi dofith - wish i could help, but i don't know how rankings are calculated. my guess would be that they're updated daily, though
Hi all
hi stidg
hey liz
dofith - it takes pretty much up to the 30 or so days before any shift is shown.
I found that out when I came back from the UK in July.
That is not a friend of mine, Welki, but it sounds good!
Hi welki, liz and all. Just taking some time to play Babble whilst the clothes are washing. Time to put them in dryer. brb
Hello!
Clue please for DU 5/16?
maybe it was carleekat
Trying to complete the grid before we go to a lunch time showing of The Imitation Game
Ok - thanks, everyone. Yes Liz, going on holidays is fun and all, but really puts a dent in one's ranking!
du 5 - du + Viet***
ty Liz
yw
yes, it must have been carleekat - she's in ontario (and i know you're not)
ha 6/24 pls?
sounds like german for a dwelling
Looking for that now too
thanks welki - found it.

(except i don't think it means dwelling - but glad you got it)
Good clue - esp cos I studied German many years ago!
does it translate?
Dictionary gives it German origins - but translates as Beluga. Only beluga I've heard of is caviar.
later, all - things to do, people to see :)
Bye Welki! TY
Have a good evening

Good evening everyone:)
Good evening crossy
Staying warm up there in the great white north?
Yup< going down to minus 20c tonight but am tucked in for the night:)
sure beats the minus 37 we had last week:))
Isn't it amazing how quickly we get used to cold weather, and what would seem cold in October seems quite tolerable in January.
it is. There are many times that i remember a warm March day of 8 c and we are all out there in t-shirts and shorts lol
Very true, Wht. I am loving anything above 40 these days.
But it's not t-shirt and shorts weather for me.
Yes, it got up to a balmy 36 F here today.
mm. Our forecasters change their minds every 5 minutes. Now it is due to go below minus 25c with the wind chill:(
I think they invented wind-chill just to scare people and make thinks sound worse.
hello all....first an 5?
It is not a farce. i am well aware of the havock that wind chill can cause when out in the biush
minus 20 with no wind is easier on you than minus 10 with a 25k breeze
I remember leaving Boston for a business trip to Fort Lauderdale. It was 2 degrees F when I left. The weather people in Florida were going on about how cold it was and with the wind chill it would feel like it was 46.
Come close, penq
Wind chill can kill
ty wht...
Crossy, I know that wind chill is real. I just think that the TV weather folks often use it mostly for dramatic effect.
When we lived in North Bay. we had one winter day where it was minus 44c, but the wind drove the wind chill values below minus 55c
lol, like "polar vortex" you mean lol
I think wind chill is more real in the frozen tundra of Canada than it is here in metropolitan cities.
Wew have polar vortex here... it is called "winter"
Exactly. The polar vortex is a real thing too.
Crossy goes out to mow the tundra...
I wish that you would do a better job of keeping the polar vortex up there by the poles where it belongs, Crossy.
I have been up north of the treeline and true tundra is a P.I.T.A mosquito's come out of it in a cloud to eat you alive and under the right conditions it can suck up construction equipment and you will never see it again
dh word?
I will try and do better, wht
Wht, I agree. Keep it up there for all the people who actually "like" freezing cold temperatures.
Thanks, crossy. I knew I could count on you. :^)
That which does not kill us makes us stronger, molly:)
Yeah right, and God never gives you more than you can handle.
No, god has a sense of humour is all.
On the plus side, i always have cold beer and I have not been bitten by a mosquito in months:)
dh6/24. It is like the Buddhist word for teaching but change the next to last letter.
sorry, but i know no buddhist words....i am sure i have seen it but it went in one eye and out the other...
A dh6/24 is d + put a ***ness on a horse plus vowel penquis
Good grief! Thought I had finished! 3 left....
Go car.eeyore go!
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everyone doing today?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!
Car, that is an exreme form of Babble blindness.
Just too distracted tonight.
oh.. THAT word for teachign.. ty wht
min....that is a clue for a five letter word...not working for me...
teaching
NOW I am finished
nm....got it...
A dh6/24 is d + put a ****ess on a horse plus vowel penquis
congrats ,car....
Good night everyone!
ty min....
wtg car
Wht, I know the Buddhist word you were referring to. It is actually well known enough to have been used in the popular TV series "LOST"
I was hoping that it was not totally obscure.
I have heard of that show... never seen it though:))
After all, Jack Kerouac used it in a book title.
Have heard of Jack Kerouac, but never read any of his novels yet:)
Well, I do specialize in the obscure, crossy.
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers...Kerouac is not obscure...
Not to worry, i read some authors that many would find a tad out there
Well, a familiarity with the obscure is a real benefit when dealing with Enable. :^)
sadly it seems that most of my favorite writes have been dead for decades... or centuries:(
Enable is obscurity personified;)
was recently reading plays of Ben Jonson from the 17th century:)
Poor gy was A favorite of King James, but still died broke and was buried upright in a plot of only 18x18 inches
Crossy, I have spent a fair amount of time reading writings of 17'th century Quaker writers. No one as well known as Ben Johnson.
Am also reading Middleton and Thomas Kyd:)
The Spanish tragedy was interesting
What is interesting is how the lives and plays of those writers all overlapped each other. Shakespeare just got lucky in become THE name of that era
Fireworks
yaa for wht!!
Shakespeare actually had a part in Kyds play:)
When I am reading some of the religious tracts from that period, I think I can see the origins of the Internet flame war.
lol. it was a brutal time
The church had more power than the goverment of the time
Of course, the printed broadside was the new technology of the day.
Well, it was hard to distiguish between the church and the government sometimes.
Half of the playwrights of the day got themselves arrested for heresy and acts of "lewed" behaviour
After all, parts of the Parliament's army in the English Civil War considered itself as a gathered church.
And the Quakers were always dancing around the edges of the heresy laws.
I love what one review said about one of the bards plays, and i am paraphrasing here... "the man is well known for never having the need of removing a word while writing, but perhaps he should be better known for not having put pen to paper in the first place"
17th century flame wars lol
I know writers like that, Crossy.
Technology changes, people, not so much.
people are what they have always been--a walking piece of meat and water looking out for #1 when the shait hits the fan.
last pe word??
nm.....channeling peri....i am done!
Yaa for penquis!!
wtg penq
It has been fun chatting, but now it is time to go. Happy Babbling all.
tc wht
tyvm!
Before I head off to bed it is time for a last Crossy tidbit of the day!!! In Stockholm, there is a speed camera lottery where good drivers can win money from the fines paid by speeding drivers! :)
I like that idea crossy. Good one
I hate rooting for Ohio State I am a Wolverine fan) but I always root for the Big 10. Congrats to OSU!
