Hello to anyone here :-)
good morning all
Hello, Sprite :-)
hey zooz :) How are you today?
I am well thank you! And yourself?
I am fine, thanks :) Bit of a bumpy night, but not in too much pain so that is good.
((Sprite)) I always put some bouncy music on (headphones if very early) to try and get it out of my mind.
that is a pretty good method :D *hugs back*
Or have you fallen over and i do not know about it?
no, I am doing well on my feet, lol, no falling of late. No, I meant dreams, indeed, and a part of the night spent on convincing myself it was safe to go back to sleep.
Hi and hugs to you both and belated happy birthday Zooz
ohhhh indeed! Happy birthday to you, zooz, for yesterday! I hope your day was good?
Aww thank you, Liz :-) and hello!
and hi Liz *hugs* to you both. Having a good day?
Thank you, Sprite, it was a wonderful day!
Very good thanks but almost over now
Sorry that your night wasn't too good
The best part is yet to come then, Liz.I nice warm coay bed!!
yeah, when I get ready to face my day, you get ready to sleep, lol. Weirdness, chatting with aussies ;)
A Not I..lol
:)
zooz, what did you do, and were you spoilt rotten? I hope so... you deserve it
We are weird people!
And proud of it!
proud is good. And weird is good too. I love you auusies.
Agree with you sprite. Hope you had a wonderful day, Zooz
And I love you too!
:) *hugs Liz again just cuz she can*
But I don't love k's
:)
Just stayed round parents..sister made us all a roast dinner..then she went off to pick her children up from school and they came in with presents and a massive cake..It was a lovely day..surrounded by people I care about! I did not want anything else!
I ony have found 4 Ks...lol
That sounds just right and lovely
That sounds just right and lovely
Have struggled to get past the half way mark so far :-(
that is the best way to celebrate, imo, zooz. Your day sounds beautiful.
I do the Ks first. Struggling, lol.
I also only have 4 k's
I have 7 now. Monkeys are getting quite the workout.
Show off!
I am trying silly words now like; kige;kias...lol
My random finger typing is yeilding no results what so ever..lol
kairn, knaig, knods...
lol Liz!
Kyat a doesn't work either
hahahaha..Sprite, yoeu are terrible..you knew i would try those..lol
Auto correct! I wrote kiata
hahahaha I did, zooz... cuz I would too :D
Stop it you two!! I can't help but try the words people put in the chog!
true, Liz. We rock, in finding words that don't work...
Me three
8...
I can here all three of us typing like mad to try and find another K word..lol
Still 4
You are right, Liz, Sprite is just showing off now :D
ahhh 9... think diamonds...
6!
%!
5!
Loved diamonds!
gooooo Liz! And yay, Ks killed.
WTG!
zooz, is your birthday 11th or 12th Feb?
hi dofith :)
11th, Dofith :-)
Wee
Well, Happy Birthday for yesterday. Mine is today - 12th.
Happy Birthday Dofith!
irn
happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you happy birthday, dear dofith... happy birthday tooooo youuuuuuu!
I hope you have a wonderful day like I did :-)
Hi Sprite and Liz
what a lovely singing voice, Sprite!
Happy birthday Dofith - you share the day with my lovely nephew
lol zooz
happy birthday to your nephew, Liz
anti
cameron is on a roll ;)
Yes, I am, thanks. Have heard from all my lovely sons, two of whom are far away.
Happy Birthday to your nephew, Liz!
aw that is good, dofith
Thanks on his behalf sprite. Hard to believe he's 22 and he's the younger.
Thanks also Zooz
yeah, somehow getting older seems to come out of nowhere, doesn't it? I mean, ok, our bodies start to grumble and some things aren't easy anymore... but inside, we still feel 25.
Yes, Happy Birthday, Liz's nephew. We share it with Charles Darwin and Abe Lincoln - good company, I'd say!
That's so lovely Dofith
very good company, lol
Great company and thanks
OKay after trying kandies I think i will give the Ks a rest..lol
Are you ancient like me, Zooz?
51 here, Dofith!
Time for me to leave. Enjoy your days / evenings and hugs.
keep the first 3, zooz, and end with 3 that are black, stinking and on top of road surfaces.
Just a lad!! I'm 65. (There! I said it!)
Nice to see you, Liz.sweet sleeps!
You too are still young Dofith!
beautiful ages, both of you! Old enough to be considered wise, and young enough to still be able to be silly.
bye Liz, have a good night and a grand day tomorrow.
G'night, Liz.
Thanks, Sprite! 7 now teehee.
yay zooz!
Sprite, I think that's the beauty of getting older. You can be as crazy as you like, forget things, not hear what you don't want to hear etc - and people excuse and forgive you! We can get away with murder!
hehehe you got it, dofith!
LOl I like that, Dofith!
Yes! found all the Ks here too.A bit ashamed to say i did not see the KN words till the end though!
don't be ashamed, zooz. They are K words. You are excused.
Be careful with the flattery, Zooz - sweet nothings from young men can turn an old lady's head!
lol you both could do worse, grin
Aww bless..you called me young :-)
Well, you are - relatively speaking!
I fully agree
Listen to you two..who are not that much older than me!
My man is cooking my birthday dinner - better go and make encouraging sounds. Lovely chatting with you, Zooz and Sprite. Enjoy your day, and your lovely cool weather. Too damn hot here.
*grin* Even a tiny bit younger, here. And I don't feel old at all, and won't when I turn 50 either. Now 70... that sounds kind of old to me. Respectably old, that is.
have a lovely closing of the day, dofith, and a good night after. Lovely to chat with you!
Hope the rest of your Birthday goes to plan, Dofith. And very nice to meet you here in babbleland!
I know what you mean, sprite, It seems such a long way away..But then I thought that about 50 when i was around the thirties..lol
Which onnly seemed not that long ago!
hehehe isn't that the truth. I know for a fact that our jillibus still feels young... and thinks young... and she is a little bit older again than we are.
I think that is the key, Sprite. You have to think young!
probably why I am so childish..lol
I think so too. And check yourself often for a tendency to think things used to be better. We need to go with the times.
I like that positive attitude, Sprite!
same here. Last time we ate at a restaurant, I got an ice dessert and it had this silly little parasol on top. So I put it in my hair bun. Kids were embarrassed, lol, my love and I were cracking up every time we saw/felt it.
hahaha nice one..showing yur siblings that just because we are parents..does not mean we too can not enjoy ourselves!
o*
hahaha our kids know that! Can't count the number of times they go : "Mo-hommmmm!"
hahahaha But they will look back on those moments with fond memories in the end :-)
that is what I tell them too, grin. That what they condemn now, will be their dearest memories later on. And that I intend to bestow lots and lots of those on them.
Let me know when you find the 9 Sprite :-)
already did... would you like a clue?
Err yes please :-)
di9/60, plural for stone mint.
how is your botany knowledge? I can clue further, if you like
Well i must admit to mouthing the word stone mint with a look of what the hell is that..lol
hehehe so would I. Let me see...
Came back to finish those k's. Have done that so will leave the remaining 37 til tomorrow K
d + a little b** of this + skin colour change from sunlight, + untruths are l***.
good job, Liz! *hugs* for you both.
Hugs again :)
Also forgot about in!
Oh nice clue..got it straight away with that one..Thank you very much, Sprite!
In!!!
you are very welcome, zooz!
Hello, Liz :-)
lol Liz struggles with the autocorrect
Kn - now stop auto correcting!
Lolol
Grrrrr!
Good night!
Teehee!
one reason I don't think I'll ever go use apple machines. Even though they are much better in many ways.
toodle pips, liz :-)
night, darling!
It's only the ipad! Now really goodnight
lolol Liz is pulling a jili on us
I have spell checker on this machine..but it does not seem to work on the firefox browser..as you can often tell with my spelling..lol
I'd much rather type a misspelt word that I put in myself than post something I didn't type. It would piss me off.
I do find I put 'i' instead of 'I' a lot too.Which I find annoying.
well they are close together
or, now that I think about it, it is because you are modest.
This machine has started to leave posts out of the chog..well I think it is this machine or is it babble (second time I have posted this remark in a row)
Ahh that one got through!
ok that is odd. We are bound for the hiccup though. 2 more minutes
It happens often for me sprite..not just the babble hicup.
might be a server issue, zooz. Your message has to pass a lot of servers before it ends up here, and if one of them misfires...
I am done... fireflies!
ok, have to be off, rather a busy day today. *hugs* for you, zooz. And to you all, a blessed day and a peaceful night.
Congrats,Sprite!
Hope you too have a wonderful day,Sprite!
Good morning, everyone:)
Hello, Crossy :-)
Hope you are well?
I am good, and you?
I am well thank you, Crossy :-)
di 9/60 ?
Any signs of Spring yet or is it way too early?
tis a minus 13c atm and a cold alert is on for tonight with a low of minus 24c with a lovely wind chill value of minus 34c. Common over, zooz. we can go snowshoeing:)
d + a little b** of this + skin colour change from sunlight, + untruths are l***.
Clued by Sprite earlier :-)
I think I would freeze to death inseconds, Crossy..LOL
It is a stone mint, Gran.
it is going to be fresh--that is for sure!
I bet it looks beautiful though.
Yes, everything is flash frozen and well preserved:)
...and I have not been bitten by a mosquito in months!
LOL well that is a plus side of the cold conditions you endure!
Okay time for a nice soak in the bath.Have a great day, Crossy :-)
tc zooz, and have a great day.
Morning all.
Hi kids.
tx zooz
H scrabs
howdy scrabs -- saw cute cottontail hopping out of fallen tree branches in backyard from last spring -- guess I'll leave it there a bit longer :-)
Wildlife need hideouts.
yep ... have left a big tangled corner on the OTHER side of the yard untouched for years -- bunny hangout par excellence :-)
Bunny Remy leaped the gate at the bottom of the stairs and surprised me in my bedroom during the night.
aaawwww sweet!
He is so cute.
He is so cute.
howdy sukee, scrabby,une:)
Hi Crossy.
he wanted his MOM :-)
ready for the deep freeze tonight, sukee?
hey crossy
Not really. I am tired of being cold.
just looked at Weather Underground 10-day forecast for my daughter in Maine -- another 25 inches of snow possible - wow!
Yes, he did. I have thought about bringing him to my room every night. I would need to set up food, water, and a litter box.
3 of my 4 dogs sleep in my room every nite -- one in dog bed and 2 snuggled with moi :-)
The groundhog lied...
we're even expecting nutso temps here in Nashville -- below freezing for 5-6 days in a row
At least it is now the middle of February. It will end soon enough.... well, not really soon enough :)
Baseball season is less than 2 months away.
we are due for minus 34c tonight. Have no idea anymore what that converts to in American. I am slowly forgetting all the old measures. I THINK it is around minus 15F
brrrr
It gets to a point when F and C are the same...
yes, at minus 40
It is not supposed to get quit that cold here, maybe -23, but feeling like -33
Tomorrow night at 6pm a group of us are snowshoeing in the woods then having dinner together.
We used to get minus 40 up north when we would go ice fishing on lake Nippissing. You would stand out in the darkness on the ice, with the dark wind cutting through your layers of clothing like a knife, and hear the ice moaning and groaning in pain, and jump in surprise at the rifle-shot sound of the pressure cracks zig-zaging their way just beyond your sight.
Great description, Crossy.
scrabs, you'd really enjoy my daughter and her boyfriend in Orono -- they hike and snowshoe in this weather as well -- yikes! LOL
Ok, going to have breakfast. Not finding any words right now.
I just dress in layers. I will not let the cold weather stop me from enjoying my wintersports.
We used to ride out on a snowmobile or a Bombadeer-- basically a bus on skis, and i clearly remember the drive laying down boards acrossy these wide pressure cracks. You could see the open water below. he would back the buss off and get a good run at it and we would ail over the pressure crack with a rattling of boards and the poor engine screaming at us:)... I was insane now that I think of it...
I need to get ready for work. Bye kids, enjoy the day.
ts scrabby
Yikes, Crossy. Risky!
My typing skills are a mess today:(
LOL my daughters been preaching layers for years :-)
layers rule.
crossy, that's amazing!
I have a nice ski shell that I wear over micro-fleece
Hello friends
lol, scrabby. stepping out your front door every morning is risky. I would rather remember the crazy things I did dothan mourn the things I did not do..I think I am paraphrasing that from someone, but I do not know who atm.
did do*
Howdy,car
hey car :-)
need more coffee -- back in a bit :-)
Loved those Bombadeers, they are a lot like the half-tracks of ww2, but look a lot like a lady-bug since 99% of them are painted red. The entire roof is designed to come off in seconds in case it goes through the ice.
here is what they look like for those who are interested. this will be my tidbit of the day:)

Hello Trif! Have you tried out yet?
a little, but my left hand/wrist/arm and shoulder are all REALLY mad at me right now
*dried
Oh dear. I have to try to get some snow off the roof today...we'll see how that goes with my damn sciatic nerve. sigh
flamethrower. CLEARLY the only tool for the job
which roof?
the sun room. it is already bowing. another foot of snow and then rain...it will be all done.
can you broom it off, from your bedroom window? Might be better than reaching up....
Actually, with the piles of snow so high on the deck, I will have better leverage.
I don't dare go on the roof with only mom here at the house.
don't you have men in your house to deal with this stuff? Zach is WAY old enough!!!
He's at school. Dylan is about to leave. Matt is at work. It just didn't get done in the last few days with all the shoveling and re-shoveling.
ugh.
I will try my best. If I can't do it, then Matt will have to deal with it.
in other news - the interviewer is here from the local vo tech school, and let me tell you!!! That guy could interview me once a week and twice on Sundays....
Calling Valentine....
Im not blind....

Listening to a beautiful piano rendition of Nearer My God to Thee
how lovely!
I love when music brings tears to my eyes. It makes me feel good
Pandora Classical for Studying. If you skip over the 800 renditions of Pachebel's Canon in D, it is a great station.
I can't get the Pandora stations here at work, as it's a blocked site - It really stinks, as I would LOVE to play it during MCAS prep class....
Hey do they block something on your phone?
if I use the school wifi, yes
Oh yeah....
omg....I am in the library right now, and can overhear the FUNNIEST conversation at a nearby table - four barely teen boys bragging about how may days a week they have to shave....
My typing is so bad this morning. My eyes are so out of focus.
migraine?
possibly...lots of pressure in my head / sinuses
I found some GREAT new stuff at rite aid that is really working for me....Tylenol severe sinus pain
I have to use my nasal spray from hell...its the only things that works for me.
My maiden name is in the grid
hii..
Hi Matty, Hi PREM
i m new here ..anybody know how to play..
Welcome! Just find words of 4 or more letters that connect in the grid.
Hello! Care to help with the last two words, car? I'm sure I'd find them eventually, but lunch is nearly over! TO6/21 and to5/12 (I have the love affair 6/21)
Got the to6/21 now - just the 5/12 left
to 6/21 is TO + Di 4/5
Never mind - fireworks!!
Yah! Congrats!
Asking for help always seems to help me find the words before the clue is given ;)
too hard for me.
It takes some time to get used to.
I'll hellp you find a word, so you can see how it works.
Start at the M at the upper left corner. You can make the word "mads". See how the letters connect?
That word is scored as a 4/6, meaning it has four letters and the points of those letters add up to 6.
thank u..
Is anyone here that can explain how to figure the values for 5, 6, etc letter words? I can't seem to get the wording right.
this grid is hard today
words are just hard to see for some reason
yes it is
They are better off clicking on the help button
clue for the at7/28? please
That is a good idea. PREM, there is a help button right above this chat area. That will help a lot.

puppy play date?
Just using the rake. Not going on the roof
I cannot leave mom here
i take it you have a ranch then
bring her with you
and how much on the roof?
I did find her some great shoes yesterday, though. Mens hiking boots with a great tread.
Either that or it's one big ass rake
That would defeat the purpose of getting out of the house.
:)
so much better than those sneakers she has been wearing! DEATH TRAPS those! Well done you!
they are not that common here. land is premium. remember one or two in my nnj town,
Now we have steep pointy roofs except a flat portion over the kitchen. It is the sunroom that is about to fall apart that is of concern. I would be happy to just let it go and have the insurance get us a new one, but our generator is out there and we are afraid that the roof may collapse and break through the sliding glass doors leading to that area...then we would be sunk.
Death Trap Sneakers, sounds like a punk band
sounds like you should move the generator
Turns out her sneakers are not even comfortable for her. She is so excited to have "room to wiggle her toes".
LOL
hahaha molly!
No kidding Joseph
better than many i've seen lately.
one of my friends referred to her wedding dress as a "polyester prison" which might be the greatest women's punk band name of all time....
seeing "pho" tmorrow
Sweeeet!

promise you will chuck the old, uncomfortable sneaks, car>
lol polyester prison!
sorry, make that "phox"
I know, right?
OMG! Did you see the new pups coming up with PAWS New England! LIttle Archers!!!!

I will. She is so happy with the new shoes and she can wear them like sneakers.
I am on SUCH a decluttering binge...it's so great
six snows days will do that to a gal...
come to my house, please.
I promise, TO, if I could get out of my driveway, I totally would :)
No! She must come here first!
"Elder" is calling me...
car, what do you think norwell will do about school?
well, we have snw showers and frigid air.
I think the professional days need to be scrapped so we can use half days instead of staying in school until July
I'm happy to say good bye to April vacation as well.
You know who I feel really bad for? The hourly employees who count on the MBTA to get to work. They are losing so much money.

Lucky me:)
I am sure our babblers in the western provinces have us all beat for tonight
anyways, we shall all have a good place to chill our beer:)
ha!...going to a cajun dinner tonight....will be hard to get out the door....body wants to stay in...
Add more spice to that Cajun meal to warm yer insides
heh heh....
Good Afternoon Everyone. How are you all today?
(besides cold)
hi nef....cold but ok...
howdy nef:)
It's 7 (F) and sunny here; but the wind chill makes it -10(F). And that wind does get to you too!
where are you, Nef?
MPLS/St. Paul, MN, pen
lol There was a local bust buy the police. They busted up a pot farm inside a local townhouse-- they were found out because it was the only house in the area without any snow or ice on the roof. All the heat from the grow lamps had melted it. was like a beacon:)
ah....well our high tomorrow is supposed to be 11 F....
by*
We don't have much snow (I think it all went to the east coast this winter,
yes, we have a LOT of snow on the ground....
and it's snowing lightly right now...
a lot more expected Saturday night into Sunday....
Y'all up in the north east need flame throwers
yes, some would need that to get out their front doors right now....
good afternoon everyone
Sorry, I was boiling some eggs and the pan cover was on, spurted water all over the stove top & floor!
guess we shouldn't complain about the fog and rain -- at least no snow shovels are involved
hi nan...
well one good thing about the cold...it usually means lightweight snow...
Hi Molly & nan.
true --- the last 2 dumps (and I use that lightly as they were only about 6") that we've had were really wet and heavy -- had to hire a teenager to come and move it
We're behind in snow for this winter; nearly 2 feet. :-( The weathermen keep saying that every day...
Sometimes, pen, that cold can bring dry snow that packs down with strong winds. You hit a few of those snow bumps on the highway out in the country & it can know your wheels out of alignment.
apparently we had about 2 feet while I was in Vancouver for my surgery, but that and the 2 soggy ones has been it for this year.
(Not especially liking this grid today; too many phantoms for me right now)
don't like it either - 50 lft and stuck
Nef, I see you still have auto correct enabled : D
i am down to 30...stopped looking for a while...knitting instead...
what are you knitting?
It's scary that you can knit and type at the same time. How many hands do you have?
a scarf for my neighbor...
it's a medical secret, molly....
are you the heir of zaphod beeblebrox, penquis? :D
no, but you have heard of those strange genetic mutations in frogs?....well.....
sorry, off tending to my boiled eggs, Molly. I am getting used to a new keyboard right now too; so who knows what I'd type if I didn't have autocorrect on?>
LOL, jes!
*making a note to boil some eggs before the next storm hits*....
ok, I saw a supposedly easy way to peel hard boiled eggs where you put them in a glass with some water & shake it & the eggs peel themselves?
man, I could use an extra set of arms some times... or a prehensile tail
never heard of that...
ai 6 please?
have you ever tried it? doesn't really seem like it would work
My first glass was too small; so tried again with a bigger glass. This time my hand wasn't big enough to cover the end of the glass & I slopped water all over the kitchen!
nm - found it
a mason jar might work better, nef...
can you help with it nan - have looked earlier for that
ai + young goat + vowel
yes, pen; it probably will on my Next attempt.
Hard boiled eggs peel easily under cold running water
And thanks, nana for the clue.
yw nef
I normally peel them with a spoon, Molly, over the trash can (I know, I should compost them, but then we get more raccoons). It really works well for me. I just thought I'd try this. I'll try it with a jar before I decide if I like this way or not
sorry, nan, I know you're not my nana!
but I'm a Nana 9 times over
I wanted cybernana for my user name, but it was already taken
Well, since I'm also retired; you should be glad you're not *my* nana! (That would make you Very OLD!)
lol - some days it feels like it!
you could be adopted, nef :)
Same here.
ka 6 please?
Ahh, jes; it never happened when I was young, I won't be doing it now. (But I have *adopted* some dear friends without relatives myself over the past few years….
ka6...sounds like tin container + black gooey road surface
k + picnic pest + i am you **e...
ka6 sounds like a horse's slow run
ty molly
Good clue Jes
Thanks jes& Molly
ma 7?

Sounds like Heavenly mother combined with an unmanned spy plane
thanks penq and molly
ty molly
47 left, and gotta go pretend to be a productive member of society again.
yw....just found it because nan asked for it, lol....
*and pen
Okay, tried peeling an egg with some water in a 1/2 pint mason jar (just because I had that size in the kitchen). It works. BUT I found it not nearly as easy as the YouTube video made it seem; more stressful on my hand joints than using a spoon I thought.
Just in case anyone wonders.
i just use my fingers anyway...
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help and thank you lickety
congrats nan
congrats!
I like to have some peeled boiled eggs handy because they are a snack that doesn't have extra sugars, fats or other stuff & even the grandson eats them. But I have arthritis in my hands and I keep trying to find simple ways to do stuff that is easier or less painful than what I've been doing.
YAY, cybernan!!! WTG!!!
off to make my lunch -- wouldn't you know? -- spinach salad with bacon and a hard boiled egg!
LOL!!! :-D Maybe everyone will have boiled eggs today! ;-)
sounds like a good lunch - we'll all be right there to share

Need to rustle up some grub...
bon appetit!
No one here ever fixes dinner. They forage, they rustle up grub, they rummage...
<--cooks dinner
Well, you are the five star chef exception : D
there's gotta be a woman out there for me that doesn't like to cook ... among other things
I thought you already had one of those : P
not yet
plotting my future
LOTS of women don't like to cook anymore ruru. The fact that you want to do the cooking should increase your ratings.
:D
<---vacuums too
Oh now I'm confused. I thought you spent years being the cook and coffee maker.
wishing you well on your search
ooh another positive point!
Here in the Northwest in shirt-sleeve weather, we are fixing dinner and I should be doing some potato peeling even as I write
I like to do those things....
Hey stidge! You are lucky to have a man who appreciates what you do for him.
I suggest a barter system then. Will cook for _____ (fill in the reciprocating gesture of your choice) : P
oh.. like THAT will happen
Well, it's a nice fantasy : D
I can't say anything
Maybe you just need to find a "beloved"
My computer is not working really very fast today.
hmmm
This is strange. Two messages sent by me to the chog. Zero showing up.
Finally, the messages came through. Just in time for me to start dinner. 21 left in the grid. Argh. Would like to finish but it wont happen. Good evenings to all.

g'day stid {{hugs}}
Too hot and too dry... the weather is all wrong for the time of year. I worry about the plants.
better find the power cord
How's Effie doing, Jes?
eeeeh. she caught a rabbit yesterday. lovely diarrhea today. *grumblemutter*
no, I will just play until I run out and then recharge overnight. Taking tomorrow off, so no need to be "ready to go." But I am going to be up early so I can drive to Seattle.
*hides chat from Scrabbler*
oof. Guess she's better if she can catch rabbits!
Did you hear about our SNAKE?
yeah. she's certainly perky. i could do without the clean up though.
no, you got a snake?
*waves hands excitedly * i did, i did......lol
um. sort of.
ROFL GR!!!!!
my whole neighborhood heard about the snake...
did he surprise you a bit?
oh, oh, oh, miss, miss, pick me miss!!
??? what about the snake
It's a she, actually. 5-foot long ball pythons closely resemble copperheads or diamondbacks at 6 am in the dark...
<-- thinks granny wants to tell a story :)
oh jesus
<-----crawls away and hides under pillow.....
Had not been told it needed "temporary" shelter back in November when it arrived.
GR knows the rest...
none of which are native to portland.... where did she come from?
snakes scare the living crap outta me
your kid?
yep.
man, ruru... so much for your tough guy backwoods image.
he owes you a present with a boa on it
gf actually -- she is a herps nut. But her family disapproves. So she needed a "safe house" when some relatives visited.
RURU!!! *stern mama look*
did she get loose? and related, how had he kept her secret since November?
I grew up in Virginia, and of course I have lightning reflexes. Very very surprised to see it.
I thought all pythons were male and named Monty
you didn't hurt her, did you?
no, ruru... my python is named Cassius :)
ROGLOL....close ruru, close
because he has 'a lean and hungry look'
I'd love to see une shuttling snakes across state lines :D
She was hungry, hadn't eaten in 6 weeks. We fed her Tuesday a week ago (the day she pushed the lid off the tiny box she was being kept in and came hunting). One rodent. She should probably eat again, but I am being told not until the first is fully digested.
I really scolded the kids for A) not telling me and B) mistreating the poor animal.
stid, your son is officially fired from snake-keeping.
HE didn't know better, but the gf did.
She claimed poverty, but it
though in fairness, a lot of ball pythons don't eat in the winter anyway...
really dumb of him to not tell you
it's not like she doesn't know anyone with funds for food.
my Lady MacBeth used to go from November to March without eating every year.
bet she liked little pigs huh jess?
True, they don't, but usually you don't feed them because they stop eating, not because you aren't offering them any.
Yes, ruru -- it was dumb.
little hamlets
not a thing Cassius does - he'll eat year round, the greedy bugger.
aw, stid... it's cute when he tries though :)
anyway... she has beautiful coloring, and I am told she is quite gentle (when not hunting)
<---keeps wide distance from snakes
I, personally, am not a herps nut. I lived in Puerto Rico and Virginia far too long to think of them as "cuddly"
but they ARE cuddly - because you're warm!
but they are living beings, and as such I recognize a commonality -- the right to be safe and live as normal a life as possible.
Hence, snake's habitat has been moved to our home (Grant's room!) and we will keep her until the gf has developed the ability to care for her properly.
stidmama is my hero. she actually asked to be introduced to Monty formally.
Apparently the snake (a rescue) used to be a classroom pet!
LOL -- she is a hunting ACE!
older kids, I hope? *pictures salmonella in all of Stid's students*
how long do pythons live, and how long do they grow to? *wonders if there is enough room in stid's house*
30-40 years, granny, and balls top out about 6 feet
Won't take her to my own classroom -- too many unpredictable backgrounds! besides, I will NOT handle her by myself.
*note to self.. pass on the invitation to visit stid and stay over*
egad, une, that's a lot of mice to find...
Yes, fortunately there is the ability to purchase frozen food.
or breed your own
She is native to African plains, and so her normal diet of course would not be available here.
won't breed rodents, Tom HATES rodents.
*there goes my mountain man vision of Tom*
LOL ruru!
it wouldn't take long stid. mice can be impregnated in the middle of delivering a litter.
well, have to head out. the computer is about to die. I got ONE word! LOL
back online over the weekend, hope to see you all! *poof*
hemce two mice, thirteen babies, three weeks later another thirteen babies. wanna do the math?
they gestate in three weeks? wow
sleep well, stid!
yup, we had a breeding pair, didn't know that they could do that. within 3 weeks we went from two to twenty-eight.
28 days, actually
but they breed back within a couple hours of birth, so they pile up fast :)
<---thinks it may not be bad to be a male mouse
jes, this pair produced again in 3 weeks. we were told by the CSIRO that they breed in the midst of giving birth.
well, you ONLY get to breed that one day, no point breeding if they're already preggers. so you get it once a month. for like 5 seconds.
what's a csiro?
oh.. well.. I wouldn't like that
and that's all it takes. i had a great argument as to who brought home the male mouse.
really, the phrase should be "breed like rats" not "breed like rabbits"... it's impressive
a research company here in ozland
ah
until we opened the cage, and found my female suckling the litter.
well i wanted to know how best to care for them. that's when i was told of course you have separated the pair.
that little mother raised both litters. fortunately we were able to find homes for all the babies before they matured to breeding age.
why don't you like snakes, ruru?
and there was the time the cat got inside and knocked over all three cages. i had to find 28 mice before the crawling baby did.
did the cat help?
lolol...no, that was the easy part, catching the cat and putting her outside again.
just an innate fear jes
I don't like reptiles to be totally honest
huh. i've never understood that. thought they were fascinating since I was a kid.
I do find crocodiles fascinating though
but they're more prehistoric
how about birds?
love birds
love watching birds too
but they're just lizards with feathers...
*coughs*
yeah.. well.. they aren't poisonous and have fangs either
do any of the native american snakes travel in mated pairs? over here the red-bellied black, and the eastern browns do. if you go bush, you take a double-barrel gun with you. if you shoot one, you have to have a barrel ready for the other.
ahahahahaha. some are
not really, granny. though they do pile up in huge numbers during mating/winter sometimes, depending on the species.
personally i just freeze. the snake usually ignores you.
the only mated pairs of snakes in America are found in Wall Street granny
oh dear, ruru....lol
look up the hooded pitohui, ruru
brown snakes are very dangerous aren't they GR?
isn't everything in australia dangerous, ruru?
well.. even the bush sounds dangerous over there :D
ewwww, jes. well that puts new guinea off the bucket list.
and yes ruru, one of the most venomous in the world.
whatwhatwhat? an australian intimidated by someone else's wildlife?
hey i intimidated by my OWN wildlife...
<---getting ready for some wildlife ...
well yeah, that's reasonable. I mean even the moths in australia can kill you, right? so why would a toxic bird be scary?
you wanna see the dance i do when ever i see a huntsman spider, or a false black widow, accompanied by loud screeching and maniacal laughter.
yes, post video! :D
i'd love to see that
but daddy long legs??? the most venomous of all, bring them on, love them....lol
our daddy long legs are harmless here
ours are harmless to humans, but anything else they are fatal. i have one in our bedroom with legs nearly 3" long, stretched out. it almost looks like a wind-up toy.
3 left - ta5/18 clue please?
ta5, ta + kith and ....
hah. nevermind.
thanks though :)
how about ra8? I probably won't find it by accident while you're cluing :)
start with rodent + sun browned skin + v***, competes
thanks, granny
oh good you found it.
yeah, was a good clue. And a new word for me.
is di9 related to the di4 before it?
nevermind. it is not
nope
firewords :)
WTG JESDRAGGON!!!!
hah. both of my last 2 were purple plants. weird.
speaking of ra6 things in the news about aussieland - I heard the lady who was in jail because nobody believed dingos stole hr baby got released because someone found suspicious dingos... does the stuff about your country that makes news in the states make you cringe?
gosh, jes, that was years ago. you are talking about the chamberlains. it was all a very grave miscarriage of justice as far as i am concerned.
and, no i don 't cringe. and news from the states just makes my heart ache with sorrow and some times outrage. we get similar things happening here too.
i thought the release was recent, but she'd been in jail for several years?
yes she had. and several of us have been fighting for her release. she wrote a book about it. it was very sad.
her case was quashed in 1988, she has since remarried, lived in seattle and now moved back to ozland with her husband.
ah... i didn't realize. is good she wasn't in prison all this time.
grief is hard enough without false accusations piled on top
i think we are about to lose our power. big thunder storm overhead.
