As if things could get any worse, my husband has to have surgery on his hernia IMMEDIATELY. The situation is under control, but as I can't drive as far as the clinic, he will have to manage on his own.

His doctor is coming again, this afternoon to help make arrangements. My housekeeper's husband is having brain surgery today, so you can imagine how complicated this all is.
I am distraught, but keeping it together.
Yes, he will probably go by ambulance, but as the surgeon wont be there until this afternoon, there is no point in sending him this far ahead of time.

He is terrified but theres not much I can do about that
All you can do is one thing at a time, ruby, I know it must be hard but you have to try and pace yourself.You do not want to end up in hospital too.

In the past, when he's been hospitalized, I was in better shape, went every day and even brought food, as he refused to eat ospital fare.
Can he not take a couple of valium to calm him down? or is it nil by mouth until the operation.
You are starting to blame yourself, Ruby.It is not your fault that this situation is happening.All you can do is try and stay calm and be there WHERE you can.But you must look after yourself too.
I am sure he will be well looked after in hospital.Of course you would like to be there for him in person.But you can't.explain to the doctors your concerns when they go to take him.I am sure they will do their bests to answer any questions that concern you.

She is fine, but we have been dealing with sick pets back to back. First one cat, and no sooner is that cat feeling better than a second one goes down with what seems to be flu-like symptoms.

nope:( they eat nothing and drink very little(except for what we force feed them with an eye-dropper for 5 days) then the first one suddenly just got better. Vet exam was inconclusive for 500 dollars:(

I am thoroughly enjoying snowshoeing and XC-skiing 4 days weekly. We have a snowpack of over 2 feet.
warmer here today too so we are getting a layer of frozen sleet on top of the snow
...and it is snowing again...

I got out on the trails yesterday with the snowshoes, Scrabby;))
I snowshoed Saturday and XC-skied Fri and Sunday. I haven't decided what to do this afternoon.
x-country skiing and I don't get along.. I'm not coordinated enough for it
and with snowshoeing .. I'd rather hit a tennis ball with the racquet :D
I used to cross-country ski when I lived in the mountains. Not quite the same doing it in the cornfields.

every once in a while, not often though you can see an owl wing-span imprint on the snow where they have swooped down to grab a mouse or a rabbit for a meal.

There are lots of deer and turkey tracks in the orchards. they are digging up last falls ground apples.

TO, every once in a while here in MN there may be a canadian goose hunt here (for those non-migrating ones) and the meat is donated to the food shelves and other places. It's not often (maybe once every 5 years?)

THat I don't know, TO. Here in our suburb we have wild turkeys and deer that have invaded whole neighborhoods and there have been bowhunts (with only specific hunters) that have tried killing some off. That's had mixed success
ANd the local apple orchard said that they still have the same 50 - 60 deer after last season's hunt (the deer are spreading an apple disease & if they can't decrease the number of deer our orchard may fail.
