re8/45
there is a hysterical re 6/36
so there is...
do tell ruru
not seeing anything -- will try it again tomorrow -- good night all
night nan
good night nan
i dont see a funny re. let alone re 6
maybe ru didn't mean funny, just that it needed a sedative
nope..it's pretty funny .. at least to me
oh. now I'll never get it.
well.. it's chicken related :D
not getting these 8s or much else. not even half way
very serious things, chickens.
chicken eh??? as in eating them or about them?
oh good grief. of course
an 7, as 7, pe 7
not all chickens are serious, and some chickens are smart.. other chickens are just dumb clucks
i think you are laughing at the co 4 word. and putting an re before it for a 6.
and some know what to do with a hammer
if so i got it.
spock is in the grid how fitting since he passed
ah. he was one of the Good Guys
missing one damn r and I can't find it
broll thanks for pe 7
is it rubricious?
and an 7 too
yw, twice
got it.. jeez
ru, I wish you'd made the connection earlier - I had the fitting Spock quote: I fail to see the humor in that, doctor.
ah.. he was a pretty cool guy .. I am glad he had a long life
congratulations on getting your R, though
LLAP
he was - and he could act. Reminded me of the talent and style and smarts of Vincent Price.
LLAP?
Live long and prosper
yes.. I can see the connection
long l and prosper
oh..
got it
I wasn't too much into star trek except as a little kid
thanks, I couldn't get it the right way round.
I just finished 2 episodes of Star Trek TNG, on netfix
Me neither, but by the time The Next Generation came around, I was thoroughly hooked. Got to meet George Takei last June, too. He's a gas - been feuding with the "Captain" for years
what are they feuding about?
are those your first to saan?
first two
no, third time round. Had them all on tape too, all marked with star dates etc. Yes, I love them
so waht was the feud about?
Apparently - no, actually. I remember hearing him do it: Shatner during interviews when Trek became famous in reruns really badmouthed the rest of the cast as if they were all no-talent unimportant characters. Shatner has never been a team player
oh.. weird
I never heard about that
that was unkind of him
<--will never use price line then :D
he underestimated the popularity of ALL the characters - each one had a huge fan base. But Shatner was/is also openly homophobic and made some filthy remarks about Nichelle Nichols as well as Takei - also racist remarks about both.
Demotion and mutiny!
sad.. takei seems like a pretty nice guy
Too late. He's still starring in tv shows.
meaning: his ego is still being fed so he doesn't find it necessary to back down. and yes, Takei does a lot of charity work besides being nice to fan(atical)s which is hard to do
I always Sahtner rather shallow, even in the Star Series he was boring. Except when the tribbles attacked.
he looks like a bloated whale now to me
The Tribbles have gone into history. I think everyone has seen that episode.
and none of it is brain power
I heard on the beach in Hawaii a bunch of people kept trying to push him back in the oc5
you just made me spill my water - almost cost me a keyboard!
stop that
:D
oooh, that would have been funny, but he would have popped right back up like a co4
It's my personal job to crack jokes around here
Born: 2230, ShiKahr, Vulcan Father: Sarek Born: 2230 Shikar, Vulcan Mother: Amanda Grayson (biological; d... Blood type: T-negative
Is that the same as cracking puns?
well..sorta.. I tend to go both ways
Inside every pun is a ___________ waiting to come out.
??
you get to fill in the blank
It's a MadLib joke
MadLibs are hilarious
are they still around? how old are we anyway?
I still have a swack of old ones...
as Emily Litella would say: never miiiind
swack is a good word to fill the blank
di8/50
I can't find anything now
Gotta go to work, guys. It's been fun. Anyone who sees Sprite, give a hug for me. Ru, and saanichat, thanks for the fun (I see ru is already back to work - going, going, sold to the little lady in the back rowwww
nighters jwr
bye for now jwr...
sorry about the keyboard
dropped back - a word just came to mind. .... that's okay ru, I missed it this time. Also just noticed that Saan is in the grid too - no doubt chatting with spock. Bye for real.
oh cool I didn't see that..
we all have to let Saanich finish first then
very kind of you. You are in the grid too so, after you
I'm down to 20.. but not making much progress now
that is excellent ru, that you are down to 20
as 7 as 8
peacock is a phantom

cooee and g'day from me
good morning all
oh, my darling friend...{{hugs}}
dinner almost ready.......:-(
hello dear one :D *hugs* Just read about the doc. What a wonderful man and what a blessing.
dinner ready? That is lovely! Go enjoy it, lol. See you after.
where is ruru? He is in the grid today.
absolutely. fortunately i had my hands firmly over my mouth otherwise don would have probably punched the docs lights out.
ugh yes, poor you. But at least the doc took it seriously and will go the whole mile with you
the grid is not as nice as yesterday's. but it is pretty good.
I had the whole dinner planned out around a request of Caya's... guess what she just told me...
what??
she is not eating at home tonight
* eyes rolling * yup....and you are surprised because??
and son will eat home but doesn't know what time, probably very late
i presume the boyo has been introduced to the microwave??
oh, not surprised. And not minding either, it is ok. Just have to think up a new menu... for only 3 people and something that keeps well and can be microwaved later.
lol yes he has, and it will all work out. Just lacking inspiration now.
oh the joys of teenagers in the home....col...i am so glad i am that much older than you....
hahahaha I hear you! Ah well, this too, shall pass. Right?
absolutely, darling. give it about 12 years...you are going to love it.
oh, dear, the timer just beeped...and you know what that means.....bbl
for real? That long? Come on, Caya is gonna move out in 18 months and Tim in 6 or 7 years...
enjoy, darling
really, lololol....think again dear.
ks killed
apricot chicken rice and vegs killed...col...yay sprite, k's were pretty ordinary.
true. Just spent ages looking for kn words. Ugh.
as did i....
*grin* So how are you feeling now, rose? Has your body recovered from the examination?
:-( knee has given one twitch...will just have to get through the night somehow.....i am so brave....NOT
take an endone before bed
phantom: euphoria
oh, that reminds me....john said a pack of 20 endone over the course of 1 month does not = addiction.
of course not, darling, I told you the same thing. Your GP is scared shitless that you will develop a dependency, is all
yeah, i know, sweetheart. i am hoping his letter to her will appease her anxiety.
I hope so too. Do you have endone left? If so, take one before you go to bed. Sleep is what you need to recover from the stress
yeah, i have 6 left of the script from december. and i see gp in 10 days....easy peasy...
well done. Seriously, well done.
thanx hin
i didn't get to do MY jigsaw as planned this morning. i did lots of other stuff though, and not feeling too bad. tomorrow is a brand new day....
oh sweetie, it will keep. For as long as you want. The links in jigidi do not expire.
I think peridark should be a word. Meaning about the time it gets dark.
or around
that is a potty break, a squirrel or you taking your endone :)
a potty break...dratted IBS
ugh ikr... so inconvenient and unpleasant.
lol....dearest...how about peridack....before you get your pants on?
speaking of dacks...going for meds...bbs. xoxox
lolol nice one too
hello da8 my old friend... I've come to talk with you again...
yeah, one of my all time fave songs...
same for me. We learned the whole second voice in singing lesson last year. So beautiful.
oh nice sprite. i bet it lifted your spirits to learn it.
absolutely. So lovely
i so miss those old singers from my youth. there was so much harmony, and truly good singing.
they understood music in the purest form.
what did you think of our pugs latest email?
I try to remind myself of how my grandparents only could value classical music, and how they hated simon and garfunkle, and janis ian, and alan parsons project... and how they didn't hear much difference between those and heavy metal, lol. I keep telling myself, it is the same with the modern music. If you are part of it, there are beautiful songs there too. But if you are of another generation... it all sounds like the same mishmesh of noise.
sprite...Caya's songs are so not part of that cacophony of noise they call music today. she is so truly gifted.
she is, isn't she... I can listen to her sing for hours
sprite, i moved with my sons, through heavy metal to head banging...they all had a sense of harmony....but today???? nope...they are nowhere near it.
hehehe yeah well, my son is into hardstyle and hardcore. And sometimes he makes me listen to something and after a while, I start to understand where the beauty is. So I think it is the same generation stuff. We are simply too old :D
i hear you....your kids are the next ones after mine. so i appreciate what you and Rob like.....
and yet???
hehehe exactly :D
fireflies
i could not find another person the whole world over who knows/understands me as you do. xoxox
WTG SPRITE!!!!!
*hugs rose* what can I say? Soul sisters... no explanation needed between us.
bless you my darling
and bless you right back
have you taken your meds/ endone?
have taken meds. endone beside the bed.
well done. *hugs* to you then, and make sure you sleep well, darling. Things will feel better in the morning, I hope.
xoxox. hope your day is nice to you, sprite.
pfff yeah me too. Lots to do. And a new menu to think up. Guess that should be the first thing :D
{{hugs}} sprite. you can do it....
tomorrow...all i have to do is clean the manary cage, and clean the front bathroom.
oh...and the crossword...so sad...too bad.
Goooooooood morning fellow Babblers xx
Good morning, everyone:) Scrabby's rabbits are up to no good again! http://tinyurl.com/nbxc462
Hi all
I got an uh oh on you link
okay....worzel gone...crossy here and sukee just logged in. * grin *
Never mind, their problem
Hi Rose.
g'day sukee
((rose)) howdy sukee
g'day crossy
Interesting an7/32 word today. Has to do with a barometer
Hi crossy.
I finally got up before 6 AM :)
yay you crossy. nice find.
crossy. i had my new pain doc today. i am gonna love him. he was so lovely.
I am glad for you, rose. I hole the two of you together can create a lifestyle plan that eases your daily pains , and allows you to live your life to the fullest once more.
so long as he doesn't have a syringe and needle in his hand. he injected that nerve....i cried, and had both hands over my mouth so as not to scream too loudly.
hope*
I cannot type this morning lol
he wants to admit me as a day patient...and hopefully get the pain under control in 10 hours...if not...i have to be admitted to hospital for 5 days...
don was in the waiting area...i am so glad he did not hear me. doc john, who knows me well, was so sorry, and hugged me several times.
well, I hope it works out.
doc john has NEVER seen a nerve so mangled and sensitive.
sukee....so do i sweetie.
I wake up with the normal aches and pains and the cold hurts at times but I can't imagine that kind of pain. I thought the worst pain I ever felt was when I broke my fibula.
sukee, i have been through both. and the nerve pain has to be the worst i have EVER experienced.
Where is this particular nerve, Rose?
sukee and crossy...i really do thank the dear God above for this doctor....he(the doc) knew exactly what i was going through.
Is it one that can be intentionally be put out of commission like they do with amputee patients?
crossy, it is the intra-saphenous nerve
so, lower limb mid-thigh
crossy. i imagine it is the same nerve.
:(
poor rose:(
yup, crossy. that is the one.
and now...my friends...i need to bid you all a fond farewell....xoxox
Yikes, some guy tried to walk across a lake in Ontario, The coast guard found him halfway.
You take care Rose.
I can't believe there are 8 K words, so far I have found one.
Make that 2.
Well at least with the heavy coverage we have this year you CAN walk across, as long a you are prepared.
Yes, except he wasn't they said :) I guess it's illegal to walk across a lake :)
I hate it when they rescue people from their own stupidity.
hey just do not care for people being stupid and killing themselves off in the process
Some areas have started to charge people for the cost of the rescue if there are idiot factors at play
doper
sorry :)
Seems an average full-tilt rescue from a mountain for example can cost as much as $10,000.00 in manpower and rescue equipment.
That was not a statement about the guy :)
Most of the ski patrol guys don't want people to be charged though.
Have you heard about the freezing hair contest in Whitehorse?
well, depending on the ski hill, i imagine that can get expensive as well. i hate those who intentionally ski out-of-bounds
They come from the city after watching too many of those warn Miller deep powder videos and before you know it the hunt is on.
I tried skiing once, did not do so well :)
We had a judge get run over by the grooming equipment here a few years ago after she strayed out of bounds
Not a good way to go:(
No.
As it should be, Spock is in the grid.
:)
LLAP.
very appropriate indeed:)
TY, that helped me find another similar word :)
spork should be a word by now.
I'll put one foot in the PB
I agree.
So is copek/
Sci fi is covered today.
So are a couple from Three's Company.
lol. I do not need to go to Whitehorse for a freezing hair contest. I can get that right here. Plus, we have a polar bear dip for charity set up for this month.
Are you doing it?
I couldn't even do the ice bucket challenge myself.
I did it last year, but I am not sure this year. Conditions are fantastic though. We have 5 feet of solid ice on the bay in most areas now
I am getting older and it is a bit of a jolt to the system
Standing on the ice and looking down into that trench. The water even looks cold. It has this blue/black appearance, and if the air is cold enough it steams in the morning light. There you are in your robe and slippers wearing nothing but your swimming trunks and a housecoat and it is minus 25 out. You work up the courage, slip the robe off onto the ice and feel the air cutting at your skin-- take a deep breath and jump into the cold, dark water. brr
You hit the water and it feels like a thousand burning hot needles are piercing your skin. Your heart lurches in your chest like a galloping horse suddenly tripping over uneven ground. You gasp at the intensity of it all, and fight to take the next breath. You smile for the cameras and grab a bit of floating ice and smile and pretend it is a bar of soap for a moment. Now you cannot get out of there fast enough as willing hands reach down to help you escape the deadly cold. You are pulled up like a hooked fish, and tossed into a warming hut. And that is a polar bear dip:)
lol. I better get a tea..brb
Great description :)
lol. Too many Creative writing classes in the last year. I am still in story mode.
Re: My vulnerable sector check with the police for my position as volunteer at the school. The officer warned me that the system they use for background checks often gives "false positives" on males in the 30-60 age bracket because it uses key words. I may have to be fingerprinted as well to tighten the search and get a pass. In reality, I should be protected from some of these kids. They have done more time and been in more trouble with the law than I ever was in my youth.
Wow, they have gotten serious :) I had a police check once when I volunteered for Special Olympics, but the police were there I didn't have to go to them.
Well, since I am working with "innocent tender lambs" I must get full clearance. lol
lol
8 out of ten of them stinking to high heaven of weed--even by 9 a.m
And why do you want to volunteer?
I do it for those few that can be saved. There are a few that show a spark that you want to cultivate and fan until it becomes a self-supporting blaze. The satisfaction comes in saving those who can achieve more in life.
That is good.
When you see them suddenly "get it" there is nothing finer. You feel that perhaps--just perhaps the effort has been worth it.
good morning dear friends
Well, let's hope you can reach a few.
hi Trif
Howdy, trif
out of a class of 30, there are 5 that show real potential and of the remaining 25 there are 5 or 10 that will coast to a nominal pass and the remainder will be lost to indifference, drugs and hormones.
Friday Friday Friday, tra la laaaa
Yaa for friday!!
brilliant article on our news last night crossy, about Canadians "Spocking" their money in honor of Leonard Nimoy....
I missed that article. Sounds interesting.
http://hyperallergic.com/187555/bank-o\nf-canada-asks-citizens-to-stop-spockin\ng-money/
did that blow the chog width? all apologies if so
oh dear
unfortunately, even though it was one character shy of "blowing the chog" it adds extra n,s making the link unusable. I tiny url everything for this new babble server now
damn.
Im really sorry
I do the same thing when hurried:(
jeopardy had a category of "new scrabble words" recently - things like "chillax" and "edemame" -- wonder when those will reach enable?
I think enable is locked forever in time.
I definitely remember some members here speaking of a time when the enable dictionary was updated...apparently all hell broke loose, for a time
ah, just found new England's favorite fish

I love the library, but it also breaks my heart. Ours was originally housed in one of the old "Carnagie" libraries, so many of the hardcovers that are on the shelves to this day will often date back to the turn of the century or in some cases earlier. For example, I have a hardcover copy of Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad, and it is a gorgeous book dating from a 1920 printing. However, it is covered with 90 years of card pockets and inked library stamps on the front and endpages;(
carnegie
whatever:)
time to try to drive. later.
I often find first edition novels in the stacks as well, but again they must be stamp-happy as many of the pages are branded with unsightly ink.
yes and let's have everyone learn to pronounce Andrew Carnegie's name properly -- with the 2nd syllable accented!
I promise i will do a full edit and peer review before I post again! lol
or we could just boil in oil all those who make spelling errors:)

isn't the sp -- knew what you meant -- what really bugs me is the mispronunciation that you hear in the US and Canada
car-NAY-gie, please!
Our original building caught fire in 1918 or so, and although many books were saved, the building, sadly, was lost. So the name does not come up that often anymore.
One of the most beautiful old buildings in NYC is Carnegie Hall
Seems he helped fund over 3000 libraries in the U.S and Canada:) a noble deed indeed:)

As a matter of fact it was, that and one of our special resident's passed away today, not unexpected, but very quick decline. On a positive note, I will never have to care for those women again.
sorry about the death of a special resident. but so glad you will not have to care for those women again. were they discharged?
no they weren't. But they are to "dangerous" for me to take care of. They could potentially make a false accusations against me. Not worth the stress!
glad to hear that you won't have to deal with them again...
oh, definitely not worth the stress.
me too. But I also feel as if I failed, I couldn't make it work. But I don't have control over others behavior, only mine.
and I did my best to make it work.
you did the best you could, phan
I really did. And I don't deserve being called a Bitch. And they definitely alluded to potential allegations they could make.
were they transferred to another floor. or were you given other responsiblities.
No, When I work that hallway, as I will on Sunday, I will have to ask one of the other nurses to take them, and I will have to take one of the other nurse's rooms.
oh, hopefully you will not cross paths with them ever again
well, I will see them, but I wont have to care for them, unless of course there is a code blue...

there is a word in the grid that starts with pr and has seven letters....
the link under the grid called "Lickety" gives you a list of the first two letters of every word in the grid...
thx, that helps alot
what's nice here -- if your computer accepts cookies -- is that you can come and go all day and the page saves the list of words you have found....new puzzle every day...
if you pay a one time fee ($15, i think), you also get the tile stats that tell you how many words begin with each letter and how many of those you have found...
yes, i've been coming in and out all day
you also get the word stats that tell you how many 4, 5, 6, etc. words that are in the grid...
you also get the word stats that tell you how many 4, 5, 6, etc. words that are in the grid...

do you have the tile stats and the word stats?
You get it for free the first two weeks or so.

Ru, what do you think of Ramsay North Coast pinot noir? 2012?
I don't know much about wine
Ramsay is decent.. and reasonably priced. Kent is a pretty good Winemaker overall
2012 was a terrific vintage too
everywhere except Bordeaux
Had it at that Chinese place... friend of Ed's is his wine picker and he had some poured for us after lunch. I loved it. Have to pick up a case.
you don't need to know a lot about wine peri.. just what you like and don't like
about $20? or $22?
DC = Ed?
I would not know what to try
haven't looked yet, but he said it was reasonable so I'm going for it. Annie doesn't like pinot noirs (she says) but I'm betting she likes this
You have me peri.. I can guide you
No Ed is the owner of the Chinese restaurant in the city.. did i not tell you about that?
thanks, ruru
yeah.. it would be easy drinking
what's DC's name?
Yes, Peri, I was just about to say that. You dont need to know wines .. you know Ru. And he is certainly the maven
I shouldn't even tell you.
nope didn't tell me about Ed in the city
the kind of name no one likes. we're safer calling him Diet Coke.
thankfully he isn't named after a male disorder
Herman?
Melvin?
Richard?
hey, I had a cousin Melvyn and an Uncle Herman
<---curious now
ok. so old friend from long ago. I told you I spent a summer in Berkeley in 1964, yes? So Ed did too and we were friends. Haven't seen him in years, but he's a NYC Chinese food maven... another old friend contacted me and I mentioned that I'd read about him in the Times, so she called him and he was thrilled to treat us to lunch. He ordered half the menu and I didn't even think about eating dinner.
wow, what a nice treat, Doren
nice
and his wine friend joined us after and he was a pretty cool guy too. Josh something or other.
restaurant is called Red Farm.
hmmm
do you know if Rouge Tomate reopened in Manhattan?
No, I haven't been paying attention. Would love to take Rachel there for brunch sometime when it does.
she'd love it
I have news
who wouldn't?
it is really excellent
We're going to lunch tomorrow. Marseille, close to the theater we're seeing a show at.
news??? drum roll.................................
some friends are inviting me to dinner to meet a person they think I'll like
oh wow! and you're ready? that's terrific.

I've been celibate a little too long now
HA!
*wonders how twisted Doren actually thinks I am?*
who me? I see both ru's... the one with all the jokes here, and the other guy. who is also funny, but kind of different from what I'd imagined from the chat
well.. I've matured Doren .. :D
*helps doren up off the floor*
yeah do that, help me up off the floor, be careful of the shoulder.
Had an MRI today. that was an experience..
oh.. what did they say
doc will say next week. hurts more today than usual. the body is just falling apart!
oh beans
yeah... aging. better than the alternative so far!
I hear that..I wish I could go back 10 years now.. with my current position in life
I think i'll toddle off to make something to go with this nifty little wine. Have a great time tomorrow with Rachel.. tell her hi for me
