good night everyone
hello everyone, and thanks Nan - gave me a quick start
Hi there, flosey.
quiet in here, has everyone finished?
LOLOLOLO
I fell asleep in my easy chair! just woke up
Thanks, I needed that.
Is it Spring where you are?
yes, we've had very light rain off and on, mild
daffodils, tulips, all out in full bloom
Well, the Masters Golf Tournament is next week, so somehow the flowers are blooming like mad.
ah, lovely, so you are in Georgia?
I'm from a family of golfers, dad, mom, brother
Yes, the course is about 1/4 mile from my home. It gets reall crazy every year....brings in lots of money for the city though.
not big time tournament, but avid players
oh, I bet - parking a problems everywhere?
Yes. Lots of people rent their homes during this time and go on vacation.
wow, great way to pay for a vacation, I presume
Thousands of dollers for a 2 or 3 bedroom house. Outrageous. We get people from all over the world. I guess most don't think about the price, just to have a place to party/rest after being on the course.
must be lots of folk returning year after year? so you'd get to know they're safe to rent
Yes, a lot rent to the same ones each year. There is a committee that inspects the homes to make sure everything is in order. I really never wanted to though.
a bit of a gamble, I'd think
I agree.
Good luck, flosey. I have 8 left but too tired to do more. Blessings
seem to have hit a wall, was doing well for a while,
sweet sleep, Peach

hi
Good morning kids.
and back for a bit. morning scrabbs. xoxox
g=Hi
Rose have a look outside there is an eclipse
wow!! herin. we just looked. up here there are multiple images.
Oh, hi Rose and Lady.
hey ya scrabbs. how are you, dear?
Today is day 5 of working 10 in a row. I work in my office from 8-12 today, or later if we have lots of sick kids to see.
And I am on call til Monday 0800. Just me and a PA working yesterday and today.
ugh, scrabbs. i don't know how you do it. once i started in the operating theatres, those multiple days finished for me... thank heavens.
My partners cover for me when I take time off.
But 10 days of work in a row will make me nuts, for sure. I must get enough sleep each night.
when i was on the wards, we would do 12 in a row, then have 4 off. mind you i was a LOT younger then....lolol
I will be off next Fri-Sat-Sun, so I am focused on leaving the office Thursday evening.
and when i did agency work, we did 12 hour shifts for goodness sake.
That makes for a LONG day.
keep focussed scrabbs, dear
Mothers get more anxious before holidays, wanting their little ones to be healthy and noncontagious (for family gatherings) but I cannot guarantee that at all.
icu nurses or special nurses do 12 hour shifts. i was specialising in renal transplants and neurosurgery patients.
ditto here. apparently our whooping cough vaccine supply is low. they only have enough for pregnant mums and new-borns.
Yes, at our children's hospital the specialty nurses work 12 hr shifts. Angels is what you are--taking care of the most critically ill people.
* smiling * thanx scrabbs.
My friend is hitting the hospital shift tomorrow

My cat is not named after any Harry Potter characters. Was more fitting as we have a Pandora.

They are so expensive. They are like 2 for $20 and worse if you have 3 kids.

lol! I made the tactical error of running out of eggs on this long weekend, so I just got back from the grocery store-- was not a good idea! Was total chaos and anarchy! Saw Christianity in action as about 6 older ladies fought tooth and nail with each other, using their shopping carts like bumper cars to get the last few tubes of crescent rolls that were on sale:)
I said to the "look, there is a whole bunch of them on that end display, I think," and when they all scattered, i was able to get in there and get my eggs:)
haha
(there were no crescent rolls on that end display) :)

probably not. :)
I'll sign the petition !
lol
Funny, my sister just called. Wants to know how many meatballs she should make. lol
meatballs for easter?
oh are the meatballs for pastaover?
Hey! We're Italian!
strange last word, sp5.18.. looked it up. It is "a sparrow".. newbie to me! fun chatting with you all.. must scoot.. have a wonderful meatball Easter or whatever if I don't "see" you tomorrow! ciao for now
bye alloy...
ciao Aloy
I thought sp5 was a carpet for a bird's nest
ty ruru!!
<--trying to be amusing at times
good clue, though
I have several Italian friends and they all seem to think that Easter calls for Italian food. We have ham, they have lasagna.
Makes sense.
We also have leg of lamb.
whatever works.. meatballs do sound kinda good though
*imagines tri-pod sheep in New Jersey*
and lasagna
poor lambs
But then every other festive event calls for Italian food too. Sunday dinner, Cousin Joey's birthday, Cousin Anna Maria's first communion...
Of course.
those Italians do love to eat
Would we eat Jewish food fro holidays?
We love to eat together.
Yeah, but not Waspy turkey and ham
lol
Turkey isn't good on easter
ham.. and lamb
lamb is the traditional spring festival food.
sorry.. i'm kind of bleating around the bush
bad, Ruru, bad.
:D
We used to have Greek neighbors who roasted lamb on a spit for Easter.
waspy food..still cracking up
:D
yeah.. we did the greek easter thing in my family.. involved a whole lamb too
I have eaten that in Spain. delish!
Just noticed my first name is in here.
I'm going to dinner at some friends tomorrow.. they're vegetarians mostly.. so I have no idea what i'm eating.. (hopes it ain't tofu)
almost hego
Uh, oh
but they have a woman they want me to meet.. so I might have to behave myself
Bring your own meat. he he
I'm always packin' hego
Don't you want her to see the real you?
:D
not on the first meeting.. I like to surprise them afterwards :D
Packing lamb chops?
I am not a lamb lover. It smells funny.
It does, but tastes good.
oh.. I can't say anything
Oh, God save me from the people who subscribe to the "we need to fix them up" philosophy. Nothing is more uncomfortable.
My mom would slit her roast all over and put garlic and rosemary in the slits.
Wait for it..........
Oh no, even Ru would not go for "it smells funny" and slits
He's thinking, though, i can feel it.
He's a gentleman, remember? *cough*
Trying to remember...
well.. I am game to try molly. I am not into the Bar scene
Good attitude Ru.
No, the bar scene is not good. But people never seem to get it right when they go into "fix up" mode. My experience, you might fare better.
I'll give it a shot.. if not.. it's ok..
I'm kind of an odd character
No, you're not.
People who are "coupled" seem intimidated by the single and recently divorced. It's like you are not valid unless you have a tag along.
hmm.. I do feel a bit branded
And even the widowed come under suspicion.
I don't give out "divorced" vibes though
No Molly - They just want everyone to be just like them!...They hate singles.
<---hasn't worn wedding ring in years.. doesn't have ring marks on left finger
No, unattached men are always welcome.
really?
that's good news
Nice, unattached, straight men are few and far between.
... at least unattached and straight ....
halaal lamb doesn't smell as funny, Molly
Does anyone remember the {spam lamb" episode of MASH?
i remember the spam lamb:)
lol, Ido, Ruby
had olives for eyes, as I recall;)
Hi Crossy.
Howdy, Hego:)
We are having our big feed today; A nice honey ham, bacon and cheddar scalloped tatties, sweet baby carrots and pull-apart oven toasted garlic cheese bread:) Was going to do the turnip-carrot mix, but had that too much growing up--that and endless Brussels sprouts:/
Enjoy crossy!
glad there wasn't a typo on the bacon cheddar thing
:)
Hmmm.....
although I've never tried them with cheddar and Bacon so who knows
<---generally goes the whipped cream direction :D
GROOOAAANNNN!
good morning
OK..
Hi Jane
make that a triple groan hego.
Hi saani
up goes your graon score, ru
hi there hego
Whipped cream and scalloped tatties would not be that tasty < I think
it all sounds good to me.
:)
((Ruby))

{{crody}}

Ugh!
does Canada do easter on a different day saan?
<-- loves tofu and crody!
(thinking of flying to New Jersey for meatballs)
hope you can graze and sip on yummy things between the sleeps ru
all this food talk is making me very hungry
come on Ru!
We have 4 days off for this, so as long as I fit a big feed in there somewhere, i do not care what day it is, Ru:)
Easter as far as I know is the same world-wide; people choose what feast - if any - they choose
well.. I have to get moving.. i'm taking my nephew out driving today..he's practicing for his license
yay good luck to him ru
Good luck!
thanks.. he's doing ok.. today I'm going to challenge by driving in SF.. that should get his attention
Oh MY!
Brave sort.
It will get your attention as well for sure
lol.. no kidding
for sure
we've been having a lot of fun driving all over (trying to be a good uncle)
Very nice of you.
You have been a terrific uncle. He probably adores you.
his first step to growing up and independence
Have fun in SF

thanks molly
help with the he 4,7 and the he 5,16 please
he 4/7 that movie gives me the he** jeebies and pl for the he 5/16
Those movies give me the heebie jeebies. The he4 is a nasty slang word for Jewish people that I would rather not see in these grids.
It actually means something else Molly
It means a few something else. It also means what I said.
Yes, and other perjorative words are in Enable and in the Scrabble dictionary.
Yep, I know that.
I would prefer that these words not be used, but that's what the reality is
With words, it all depends on how they are used.
I would rather give it the benefit of the doubt. I would prefer that word to kike, or Christ killer
FW, hagn all
Everyone has their own "offense level" with words. I think it's all in what you are raised to be offended at.
Evening all. A spectacular Spring day here. Warm sun, gentle breezes.... absolutely lovely.
Hi Soodle. Hope you are having a lovely family Easter
Hey, Chrissie. Yup. The troops are all home. They are fighting and arguing to beat the band. Good times! Hope your Easter is going well - and quieter! LOL
Are the hungover offspring hoping for an Easter bunny bedtime story and baskets in the morning?
LOL. One very sick Easter Chick here, Molly. Laying down on the sofa looking green around the gills. (Sarah). Paul is off out on the town. wearing the pinkest shirt I have ever seen. Sarah remarked that he must be very comfortable with his sexuality to be wearing such a pink shirt, resulting in WW3.
Nice that they can still wage war with each other, even when one is battle weary. Blessings to the sick Easter chick. She is still my heroine for her St. Patrick's Day get about in Brit-ville
Sounds perfect Soodle!
We're at my daughter and s-i-l at Guildford for the weekend. Our weather was dull and cold though, not like yours
hi, Chrissie and soodle
Back to finish. Clue for fa6 please?
archaic spelling of TinkerBell types
Aaah, ty, lynxxx. How is Easter Sunday going?
very relaxing - have you had a break?
First le5 please?
I worked from 8:30-12:30 then shopped.I did some craft work for a bit now I am watching the college basketball playoff games. The first semifinal jut started.
Who you rooting for, Scrabs?
le & Hawiaan dance w'out the L
Duke and Wisconsin for the finals, and, although I have always rooted for Duke, I am drawn to the Wisconsin team this year. How about you?
I need the first le5.
LE + three letter boys name.
Well, it's not Gus.
Then plural for the LE6
Never root for Duke! So Michigan for this game and Kentucky for the next. I think it is inevitable that UK will take it all. I wish not, but...
I found the boy's name. TY Zooz
Welcome.
morning Zooz
I'm a die hard Kansas fan.
Hello, Lynxxx :-)
Did you grow up in Kansas?
I did.
Did you have a dog named Toto and an aunt named Em?
Sorry, I had to ask.
I did not. =)
FW for me--first times in many weeks.
I did have a scarecrow and I've seen a few tornados.
I was thinking that that is the only thing I know about Kansas
Congrats Scrabs
Congrats, Scrabs!
oh - and of course Kansas City from the 50s cowboy movies
Kansas City is actually in Missouri. Or the biggest part of it is...
What is Kansas known for nowadays?
Wind and flatlands. They are a big aerospace region.
Wheat and sunflower arming.
farming
Cattle production
And of course, ME! =)
sounds like they should be into solar and wind power produduction
thanks for the clarification - I wouldn't want to see sunflowers armed! And good evening, all.
There are several large wind farms there.
hi Java
Well, I am going to watch basketball and look at Pinterest.
If you have ever seen a sunflower, they do look like they have arms.
Happy Easter, Scrabs.
I'm off too - up early for a change cause we just ending daylight saving so I can take a long walk. Bye all
Ta, lyn
Bye, Lynxxx :-)

Howdy,matty
Howdy!
I am finding this a tough little grid. Last 30 are putting up a bit of a fight
I've hardly got started. I'm waiting for my flight back to the UK and killing time. I have 41 words, 1 six, 5 5s and the rest 4s. Sigh - I'm not doing well lately (but then, I've been on holiday and haven't been listing)
Ahh:-) where did you visit?
First Pennsylvania (Bucks County) for my Mum's memorial service, then California to visit Jeff's (my OH) daughter at UCSB (with some time in LA too), then back to Newark for one night, a brief trip to Greenwich Village, NY as we had time to kill. and now home
Whew! You will need a bit of a rest after all that. I bet you will be happy to sleep in your own bed:-)
waaaaaa group work. Hides under someones couch
Happy travels Matty
Boat cruises to ireland
Gosh that would be nice
*sneaks in and scatters choclits*
Pounce on Stid
oof! LADY LET ME UP!!!! ***grin***
I am, much too elderly for such horseplay. *rearranges dignity and sits up*
Good Evening Everyone! How are you tonight?
Ah, Nef! It is SO lovely to see you! Did you see my latest pic on my blog???? *eager-to-share look*
Hello Nef
Help I am doing a group assignment
No, stid. I haven't been checking lately; I shall go check at once though!
realizes that Lady is looking straight at me and wonders if she realizes I am only one, not a whole group...
Hi herin. What's the assignment this time?
(i KNEW i should have been more careful about all the stress eating this winter!)
Group stuff. On age
Stid at the moment there is only me and this other guy
LOL it's all those gray hairs, right?
what's the purpose of the assignment?
I have dark roots so not a problem
WHat is it about herin? I seem to know more about age (especially how it feels!) than I want to lately
(Beautiful daffodils & other plants, stid!)
thanks Nef!
And you did buy a drum; not a drum pad?
YES!!!! A real-live drum from Ted Brown in Tacoma. It was half the price (used) of the drums I saw at the local store. It was less than one of the triangles I also bought... which is like a Lamborghini of triangles. So beautiful and mellow. I also bought a really cheap triangle with a brighter tone that I won't mind taking outside in the rain.
herin; what's the assignment on? Are you supposed to associate with people "of a certain age" or how to not show your age?
Good for you, stid! :-D
I am so excited. Practicing this afternoon has been so much more fun and productive than the when I have tried using the practice pad I bought.
I need the resonance of a real drum right now. When I am a little more experienced the practice pad will be fine.
Really? Because it "Sounds" like a drum?
Also, I did a little work in the yard, and that felt good. will do more tomorrow and then take some pics.
Sorry angry cat needed attention. I will explan
How's the ankle, knee hip doing so far today?
Yes, the way the sound comes off the drum tells me if my strikes are clean. On a practice pad I hear only dead beats and it doesn't feel right in my head. The first time I tried to play on the real drums I was so surprised at how different the vibrations hit me that I completely lost my place!
LOL!
The ankle is pretty stable already -- still careful outside, but if I don't overdo it it doesn't hurt. The hips didn't like my gait being off this past week, but Tom is helping a LOT. So by the end of this week of vacation I should be physically in shape again!
Just be careful
How about you? Did you get the condo all taken care of and funds distributed according to instructions? Taking care of a relative's affairs is daunting. I need to get my will re-written so people know my intentions... last time I did it Matthew was 5 (now 22).
OK as port of our Sociology foundations we have to do a group project. Our topic is Age. We have decided to do a discussion on child labour and chocolate
as part
Ah, that whole slavery thing that allows people in distant places to ignore how bad life is elsewhere.
We are looking at it from a sociological point of view that with this type of slavery children do not get education. Villages need more money to help raise a child
THe condo is sold; the new owner looks as though he's in his mid-40's but acts like he's maybe 18 -20 & this is his first home! And he's married; but we know nothing about his wife except *she* was the one worried about "odors." (There weren't any odors; but I went along with some of the demands because I figured that *maybe* she may have allergies to cats; & that might be hard onher.
so child labor in the chocolate-producing countries?
One reason we fund public education is to raise the ability of our workers to do more, better. Educating children increases the wellbeing of entire communities.
some people are more sensitive than others, not just to cats and their odors, but Lysol, detergent, perfume, oranges, mold, all sorts of possible things.
I am glad you were able to sell - and as a person who reacts to cats even when I don't know they are there... thank you!
What have you discovered about the link between chocolate production and child labor?
hey gwen!
in my building (20 aparemtn units) sometimes one of my neighbors cooks something and it smells like a latrine
hiya stidmama!
Gwen, I have allergies to cat dander (but right now we have 2 cats; 1 we inherited from Aunty when she died; & the other is temporarily "renting space" here -- it's my daughter's and she's between homes right now
i take allergy pills whenever I visit my cat-hosting friends, which is often
So I won't apparently be getting much of a vacation, Nef -- (was half hoping to go visit out your way). I have been approached to teach summer school this year, and I think I will do it just to refine my skills and to get a little more in the bank to spend this winter. I am hoping so much to take Tom to Puerto Rico... Not sure how, not sure when. Just I really want to do this.
down to 35 and the N eludes me. Help?
Stid - http://tinyurl.com/kqdk75j
n + double vowel + consonant
anyone have the lone E in right column?
I *really* don't tolerate a lot of the chemical cleaners like Pine Sol, Lysol, etc. So I used vinegar or lemon juice for cleaning & disinfecting things.
you and i are like peas in a pod, nef!
el5/18 BDG

HEY TOR!!!! *legit drumroll*

Stid -http://www.thedarksideofchocolate.org\n/
go gwen go!
the documentary is at http://tinyurl.com/o67wkba
I have actually already seen that one, Lady... :-(
I try to purchase only fair trade chocolate nowadays.
I don't mind paying extra and going without when I think how the cheaper stuff affects children.
ha. finally understood tor's clue. only a couple blanks left now...
I try to get just the fair trade chocolate too; but since I'm really a chocoholic; I try not to buy it at all (so I won't eat it all)
ah. 30 even, and finally NBT and NBS
I find that when I eat healthy food I am less likely to over-do choclits. I actually like broccoli and kale, which is fortunate because they really fill up the "choclit shelf" in my tummy.
I hate this group work
I have two assignments due Tuesday and this one next Tuesday.
I read somewhere that when women crave chocolate, it's because they need more magnesium; but that was for younger women (before menopause)
Lady, the comments on the video are interesting. Ranging from people who just understood what the stakes are to people who "give up" because it seems that oppression is everywhere to those who have already taken steps to make a difference, no matter how small.
I never cared much for group work, either, Lady.
herin; from some of the different assignments you've mentioned to me before; you must have some very strange courses
In the U.S. there is a movement to stop allowing teachers to grade individual students on the outcome of group work. Group work for learning, but individual work for assessment.
(& I'm too old to have ever had any "group work" like that)
It is a joke because our group had 5 people including me. 1 has dropped out and 1 has been a bit of a space cadet. So in order for no confusion I will be called number 5 here for arguments sake. 1 has dropped out, 2 is a space cadet and emailed me 6 times at 10:40pm last night, 3 has not been seen or heard from and lastly 4. Him and I have been communicating all morning.
That's too bad, lady.
Wow. And I'll bet that the remaining 4 will all end up getting the same grade?
seel
Number 4 and I have spent 4 hours today discussing the topic. To be fair number 2 didn't get back to me so he better put in the hours on wednesday or I call shenanigans
Oops
And yes they could get the same grade. If it isn't sorted in a fair manner I will be telling the teacher. I think group work is stupid
I agree. I've heard a bunch of horror stories about group assignments being done by just 1 or 2 members of the group but everyone getting credit.
http://tinyurl.com/nj4r2fk Just for you Nef
O wait I have the best horror story on group assignments
thanks for that one, Nef
uno
LOL, herin! :-D
go gwen go! *holds breath*
Ok so get this. This is actually 2 separate horror stories. first one. Creating a conference - made second in charge work my arse off and there is a class award for achievement. This award is class based and because I wasn't popular I didn't get the award. Ended up non-verbal for 2 weeks. Also got 189 out of 200 for the class
Second horror story. Same course my class was split into two separate classes as the group work would be too hard to manage with one group. So I get not picked to form a group and even my 'friends' ditch me. I end up in the 2nd group where I had to work ALONE because everyone thought my ideas sucked
OMG i am going to have to ask for a clue for the LE5/14 after the things you walk with, Thanks
ugh. that's horrible lady
looks like things related to laws, gwen
brb
commiserating with you, herin. school / college / university is full of sick traps
le 5= one limb + too common vowel in this grid +pl
And this is why I hate group work and went and did the course online to avoid it
not getting you clue, stid. need easier clue 8 - )
no, i have that LE5,14, need the next LE5/14
herin; how can they grade in a situation like that? Not right or fair; nor should it be even considered legal in my eyes
learme
damn it
The course was graded by your assignments not the group work but that was important to your grades
hey ruru! *big happy smile*
LIke if you don't participate in a group how can you create assignment on analysing group work

We didn't actually do anything holy, unless you count taking a hike!
