that's what I get for listening to the radio and babbling at the same time
Bopping to music and babbling.I am impressed!
wrong station: News Quiz Extra - laughing my head off
Ah I see.
English politics is much funnier than american
Not sure if I could get that here in the UK unless it is also an online radio station.
BBC, m'dear
Yes it is rather a joke I must say..lol
Is it cool..let me take a look.
It is online.
Ah on radio 4.

That's where I learn all the Scottish words

Four Extra has all the old programs (and some new)
check the schedule
Oh, I see what you were looking at. That's the program that's on live - I go by the weekly schedule and listen to what I want whenever.
hey, I thought you were doing chores, hmmm?
Ah thank you..I thought i was going mad..must admit I am rather liking this. Glad you mentioned it.
Oh not glad you mentioned the chores though :(
ok, now, which would you rather: go mad or do chores?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4extra/progr\nammes/schedules/this_week
cancel that - it was too long - have to run it through tinyurl first
Here it is: http://tinyurl.com/pguh8ex
You are right. I will listen to this and do the chores. Babble will have to wait for a while.
Thank you. got that up now :-)
Me too. I can listen while I work though. (wasn't that a Disney song? no, that was whistle. well, I can do that too)
Talk to you later zooz - happy day....
Most of the programs are up for three or four weeks - so you can go in and listen at any time. Last week's schedule would still be good. Okay. poof
Sorry, Jwr I was checking the schedules...Thanks for the link. hope to see you again soon!
Ooooh goodie - another one hooked!
good morning everybody:)
I see the brits blew up the chat:)
Hi Crossy! I have been alone for 30 minutes.
Howdy scrabby:))
it often happen that way at this time, scrabby; the aussies are getting ready for bed, the Brits are off for a mid-day meal and 90% of North Am,erica is not up yet:)
Usually Rose and Sprite are here now, and sometimes Ruby.
And I can see that the keyboard is still my nemesis:/
I can translate typos.
Yes, rosie and Sprite are usually here:(
I'm here, but only in spirit ...
Howdy, Matty
No, I really do see you, Matty. How are you?
Meh - at home as I'm being made redundant (laid off) - I have three months' notice though but I think they're putting me on gardening leave (paying me not to work)
Hm, being paid to not work sounds ok for a bit. But why?
I know the feeling, Matty. I was made redundant at my last place of employment almost two hears ago. that was the reason for me going back to school and upgrading. I am just getting back in the work force now (I hope)
The company lost a bunch of clients, and those left don't want to pay for an email marketing expert (I work for an Agency)
years*
Are you job-searching, Crossy?
While I have your attention, may I have a wee nudge for the sa6/18 - I'm sure it's staring me in the face...
Yikes, rain just starting pouring. It is so loud on my metal roof!
I have been ever since I received enough credits to get my diploma this just. had an interview yesterday and the decision is pending
this June*
Shiny fabric, Matty.
Yay, Crossy!
Found myself in the doldrums, so why not add some more education eh? lol
Cheers!
Laundry now calls - bbs
Please, do not mention laundry. We have two piles; a dirty pile that may have become sentient over time, and a clean pile that most certainly has:(
Hi thee. The chog seem a bit stretched :) And, I agree with laundry.
Howdy, Sukee. The chog was blown out a bit ago by a over-long URL. It will be all better once that post clears the chog
I meant to do laundry this morning but didn't get up early enough.
Was blown out at 04:28 BT (Babble time) and will clear very soon:))
So, we should chat more.
When they come out with single-wear recyclable clothes i shall be first in line:)
6 more posts and it will clear
Hi sukee
I'll be right behind you. We need a machine that creates clothes as you need them, like Star Trek.
4
Hi scrab
3
should be clear now, i think
It is fixed for me now.
And it's fixed.
The dreaded S word in in our forecast.
never-mind that. I just want one of those food replicators; soylent green goes in the back, and any food you want comes out the front:))
Same here.
Food replicators would be good.
72 left. I must get ready for work. Enjoy the day.
Take care.
tc , scrabby
One left - et6/27...?
problem with food replicators is that i think in our market you would end up with "tiered replicators" ; The basic model would pump out meatloaf, Kraft dinner, ramen noodles, and Kool-aid, while the higher tiers would dispense steak, seafood, and fine wines:/
And of course, there would be a vegan one.
Can anyone give me a nudge on my final word so I can go to the supermarket to get toilet roll and tinned tomatoes and garlic?
Sorry, I don't have it.
et6/27 - linguistic term for a root word
hi folks
Hi JBV
mm, a vegan replicator cannot use Soylent green:(
Got it, ty JBV
With help from more words.
Thank you - all done!
Yaa for Matty!
a vegan replicator would have to be tofu based:(
Wonder how many vegans know that during pollination the fig tree 'eats' the male fig wasp after he copulates with the fig wasp female, thus making figs non-vegan? lol that can stand as my tidbit for the day:))
But only non-GMO :)
I know, all food basically is thankful for animals.
lol, Well with GMO or "frankenfruit" as i like to call it, all bets are off!
They are starting production now of that apple that does not go dark when you cut it.
frankenfruit indeed
http://tinyurl.com/m6trhxv
Yes, have been hearing about it.
lol its nickname is the "Botox Apple"
The Google doodle is cute today.
yes, over 80 years hunting Nessie
She sure knows how to hide :)
I think Mr Cousteau looked for Nessie as well.
I used to love that show.
good morning friends!
Me too.
Hi Trif.
hoping for a better babble today - yesterday the lag was hideous
In the end Jacques family were squabbling over the Calypso. Was not a good ending or a proper way to honor his legacy:(
Howdy, trif
*Big eye innocent look* Trif, I just want you to know that I'm sleeping over at a friend's house tonight
Yes, family ruins it all. Kids should not expect anything from their parents after they die, solves a lot more problems.
oh ha ha molly....
I will die in peace, knowing my children won't be squabbling over anything, as we barely HAVE anything.
it would indeed, Sukee
so that's a plus
How is the little detainee doing?
I basically got nothing from my parents and I'm fine.
parents would be better using it all up before they pass or leaving it all to a charity
she has an absolutely terrible cold. And I feel no pity for her
I agree.
We went through living hell for 2 years as executors to my beloveds mothers estate
The age old sleepover swap. I think almost every teenager has tried it.
indeed
that happened in my stepmothers family, as her mother left no will - worst.
A friend is having a bit of trouble with her mother's will due to just one child. But, he wanted his share even before she died when she was in a home.
ah, the prodigal son....
dame judi is in the grid today! LOVE her!
Yes, and I tried to see if they accepted it in case it means something else :)
me too sukee! I have a tendency to try that - once I find a word, I try it with all the surrounding letters too - say, toot, root, coot, soot, etc.
I do that as well.
I have babblenoia - I always feel that if people could see the nonsense I try to monkey, I would be sent to the PB on a permanent basis. Nice to know others try stuff like that as well
I am totally lost on the Z words.
That's because they are zl words
I have one - A unit of money, I believe
Toot, root, and and soot sounds like an old person's problem.
ick.
im lost on the lone t.
And coot
haha ruru
Hence the coot
Ah, got them. The second ends with the high score tile
may I please have the count for the lone t please?
I don't have that T either.
Off to class. tc all, and happy babbling!
See you crossy.
bye crossy!
Maybe it is just me..but when i say gullible slowly it sounds more like apple... :D
nice try, pally
found the lone t! how ironic....7.28, and has to do with what we were JUST discussing
You willed it to happen trif
nbt pour moi
What does it start with?
te
indeed, ruru
TY
It starts with a T
It's your inherit ability
I bequeath it to you all now
Yes, I was asking what the first 2 letters were miss smarty pants.
its my living will that you find it
how blessed molly is, to be wise in both mind AND behind!
I trust i will
I love smart asses
Got it, ty for the help.
I am going to dig something up for breakfast. Out of most things, groceries are coming today.
I'd rather be a smart ass than a dumb ass
Wow, you get your groceries delivered?
I have one n left, and I am THRASHING to find it, entering absolute fluff. panic sets in
Yes.
I knew you'd put a hole in my theory molly . 😀
do they do a good job picking out produce, sukee? I have some friends who use Pea Pod, and they have had problems with that factor, but love the rest of it
They are actually quite good at that.
good to hear!
The bananas are always not quite ripe which is perfect. And the brussels sprouts are always fresh :)
what a lovely thing, that that is available. it helps so many people
It does and since I don't drive the cost I pay for delivery is actually cheaper than a cab.
I love fresh brussels sprouts, but they are usually sky high in price
And the guys will put the groceries where you want them.
do you get the same person delivering every time?
No, there are about 3 different guys. Depending on the day and time.
But, you do get to know them. One guy and I had a nice chat about Doctor Who once :)
but still, you get to know them, can say hi and all - sounds very nice
Brussel Sprouts are one of the very few veggies I don't care for. Avocados are another
It is a good option for people who don't drive
I love brussels sprouts.
indeed, molly - and new moms!!!!
And since I have mobility issues it makes it easy to get the heavy stuff.
I like guacamole, but other than that, you can keep avacados
ugh, avacados are elizabeth repellent.
I love avocado, but I have to admit I usually have it in guacamole.
Anyway, I have to go get something to eat.
There's something about the consistancy and fattiness of avocados I don't care for
It seems like all the sandwiches at the "trendy" restaurants around here have avocado on them. Blech.
I am deathly allergic to mangos, of all things, and for a while there they were au courant, and in EVERYTHING - yeah, that was fun
It's sad that once the "food people" get their teeth into something, it becomes rampant. Kale, quinoa, etc.
My husband cannot touch the peel of mangos. They are related to turpentine
im trying like hell to like quinoa....uphill battle
Yes, quinoa prices are sky high
I love talking about food
I am all about different kinds of rice these days - colors, types, ets.
etc.
I eat quinoa as it isn't a carb and I am diabetic
I've grown fond of brown rice as it isn't a simple carb
and lentils come in more colors too
I am grid locked. can't find a damn thing
love me some lentils!
true Trif
I like the Madras Lentils that I get at Costco. Perfect lunch
Bich, isn't it hard to shop at Costco for just two people?
Not really. We can actually store things in our basement for most of the year. I don't get huge cans of things, but there is enough to buy there that it's worthwhile. Their meat, fish and produce is very good quality
valentine and I were just having this discussion! the two wholesale clubs here are Costco or bjs. the bjs is nearer, but not as nice as Costco. but the Costco is 35 minutes away, and a tricky business to get to, so we would probably not go much. is it worth it to join either?
During an extended freez this winter I was able to keep meat frozen in the garage [yes, sounds gross]
doesn't sound gross to me, bichon - very new England-y
keeping it in snow piles also works
It depends on your amount of storage space and your food budget. If you can afford to buy in large quantities and freeze or store, than it's probably worth it.
Trif, I actually belong to both. The BJ's is closer and on the way home from my daughter's house. But Costco's has such great meat and produce
I don't know about BJ's, but Costco is always crowded. Another down side for me.
I grew up loving fresh produce. My father worked part time at a produce store owned by family. He always brought home the best stuff
I shop there in the mornings [perk of being retired]
I like fresh produce too. I buy very little canned or frozen.
And I really miss the family owned grocery stores.
When I lived in Israel, the produce was always fresh and superb.
I find that it really depends on what I am shopping for - certain items are CHEAP at bjs and I can save a ton of money, others are just about the same as in the regular store. the bjs near here has very little, if any, organic produce, so that's a bummer. do I save the $30 a year the membership costs? that's the big questions.
The membership at BJ's and Costco is $55. But I feel I'm there more for the quality
Over time, you probably would save the membership fee if you shop there enough. Make sure their payment options are something you like. Some of those places only take one kind of credit card, and no debit cards.
agreed molly. the one really nice thing about bjs is they take manufacturers AND bjs coupons
Costco only takes Am Ex [that is coing to change] But, BJ's is more flexible. Also the gas is cheaper there [about 10 cents less a gallon]
I've given up on coupons. I don't get the newspaper anymore and I refuse to download the coupon printer that most sites require for getting their coupons.
I don't think my bjs has gas
Im not one of those coupon queens you see on tv, but I do like them
Both have gas and some BJ's and Costcos have liquor stores. Costco's pharmacies are tons cheaper, as well as optical departments
Wegman's is our best grocery chain for meat and produce. It's not that close, so I go there once a month.
We don't have Wegmans here
They are only in a few states so far.
Hello...may I have stats for the Z pls
gm, help with the lo6/18 plz?
No liquor in our Costco. You can only get liquor in State run liquor stores here.
Our city has very few shopping opportunities. You have to drive out of town for anything other that a couple of grocery stores
Maryland and New Hampshire
Plural of the LO 5/10
zl5/20 and 5/24
ty, zooz
Welcome :-)
No LBD, those are not the lo6/18 : D
no liquor for us either, which mostly bums me out at trader joes, as I hear their wine is quite good
MA only has state run stores too? Didn't know that
I am blessed that 4 grocery stores in my state are allowed beer and wine licenses and I live five minutes from one of them.
ty lbd
zooz - I am having lunch today with a lovely bunch of women, ALL of whom are from the UK. valetnines landlord's girlfriend recently moved here from Scotland, and is having a bit of a hard time finding her feet. I have assembled all the ex-pats I know, and they are giving her a "crash course on life in Massachusetts"
I am not sure of all the particulars on that topic, bichon, as some stores DO sell liquor (like the grocery store in Abington) and some don't. there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it, actually.
stats for the bottom T, pls
Sweet! I hope they have a great stay, Trif.
te 7.28
TE 7/28
I stay out of Trader Joe's because it is mostly impulse buying stuff. I've had their "Two Buck Chuck" wine and honestly, I've had better Boone's Farm.
ty
I really do too zooz. she is such a nice woman, but its' a lonely go for her here, as she does not always have a car
I like traders joes, but you can't buy everything there, so I can't do all my shopping there
That is the other thing Trif. I'm really not one to flit from grocery store to grocery store.
I shop at one supermarket as it's the only place I've found that has great sugar snap peas
I love fresh snap peas, but they are usually pretty expensive. I tried growing them, but had no luck.
Ce7 silver: because you're over 50 and you're out there swinging...
Peas are difficult to grow. You have to plant them really early [like Mid March] and the soil is still very wet
I love the fact that Safeway DELIVERS groceries including alcohol right to my door, they bring them up the stairs and into my kitchen for $6.95 and no tipping allowed. Just go online and "shop" per aisle category and order. Since I can't even leave this apt. right now, it's really a blessing. I've actually been using them for several years and it's especially convenient in the hot summer as I don't have to get in and out of a hot car and try to get frozen stuff home before it melts. Their truck are quipped with both freezers and refrigerators.
Stop and Shop delivers as Pea Pod
hint for the te 7/28, pls
I don't know all the places Safeway delivers but you could go online and Google it to find out.
No alcohol delivery around here. My husband was from Canada and used to joke that the alcoholism rate is higher there because you can have the stuff delivered to your door. : D
We don't have Safeway on the East Coast
The te7 is a will related word. As in what you leave in your will.
You can order alcohol on line
I'm on the East Coast and we have Safeway here.
Really? Stop and Shop is the dominant Supermarket here in New England. Don't think Safeway would want the competition
Yeah, but on line delivery doesn't show up in an hour.
ty Molly for the te
Since I live upstairs in my bldg., it's great that they bring it all up including 20-lb. bags of cat litter.
LOL Molly
Ouch. The poor delivery guys.
The $6.95 I pay is for a 4-hour window of time. They also have 2-hour and 1-hour but you must pay more ($9 and $12).
I always tease my delivery guys that they must have incredible muscles by now!
My kids lived in a 4th floor walk up once and my son said that was the hardest move ever and he will never do it again.
Summer is fast approaching here....going to be 92 degrees here today--hate that. This is the Hell of our two seasons (Heaven and Hell). We've been in Heaven and now are going to Hell.
Everyone tells me I should now move to a first-floor apt. but they're all so closed in and upstairs I can see the sky and the beautiful sunsets every day and it just feels more open and less claustrophobic. Plus when my legs are working, I get more exercise going up and down the stairs to do everything.
I also think a woman living alone is a bit safer upstairs.
hello everyone.
Hi Owl :)
hello, annie.
Hi, TO! And hey, there, Annie!
Morning, Mimi
hi,mimi
Hard to type right now...new cat like to get right up under my chin. He's so sweet....can't ever give him too much love! Glad I kept him.
Mimi, it must be hard to be house bound. I'm glad you have the delivery service.
And the internet....otherwise, I'd have bad cabin fever! But I have lots to keep me busy and feel lucky I don't have to commute to work because I wouldn't be able to do so. At least since I work at home I can keep my job.
And I have great neighbors as well as my daughter who go get my mail and take out my trash as well as bring me things I need that I can't get from online Safeway. I'm actually very fortunate considering the situation. I think it's important to never lose sight of that. Focusing on what I DO have rather than what I DON'T keeps me in a state of gratitude and positivity no matter what happens. I believe reality is a matter of choice and what you choose to focus on.
Just heard on the news that Netflix just purchased 13 episodes of "Fuller House" which John Stamos is producing. Hmmmm....interesting.
Going to get breakfast. Sorry I dominated the chat. HAGD, everyone!

hi all.. Question: if someone does not play for 30 days, does their name disappear from the "who's hot" list?
Nope, monkey just found it!
or would they just be listed as "zero" for the ranking?
Not sure. Are you looking for someone who has disappeared?
yes, actually I am
well, I have to disappear.. but hopefully be able to play/chat tomorrow.. ciao for now !
If you look at the explanation for the rankings, Who's Hot is based on the last 30 days. So if someone has not played for that long, I would assume they would not be on that list. Might be a question for Montreal, since he manages the rankings.
oh, ok, ty Molly.. poof
I don't need a list to tell me I'm hot. ***sizzles****

I always forget that you UK folks are "keeping" not "doing" : D
yes it has been great ... hope that doesnt mean we are going to have a rotten summer!
I hope not.The weather is to turn for the wekend but should be back ontrack afterwards.
It might be just me, Molly. But I have always said Keeping..lol
I hope you are right ... fingers crossed!
And my toes, Mo :-)
Summer here in the UK always seems so short lived.
Molly here in the north we use both "doing" and "keeping" .
Any clues for the z words

Anyone still around?
Hi Scrabbler.... I just came in to play a few words while supper is cooking!
Hi Diane!
:-)
I worked this morning then napped from 1-4:20! I never nap, unless I am exhausted, which I was.
I'm not a midday napper....always found I felt groggy afterward. I'm now changing my ways a little, as I've had a few "afternoon sleeps" lately and they did me good!
....must be the second childhood creeping up on me ;-)
Yes, I am groggy and feel a migraine starting, which often happens if I nap. Grrr.
I would like to go back to bed! But it is 6:17 here.
soon, soon :-)
It is just one of those off days. I had planned to do yard work and walk to the park.
I have many aches and often bad pain, but thankfully, I never get headaches. I've had maybe two bad ones in my whole life....so thankful for that.
You are so lucky! I have suffered from migraines for 30+ years and average one weekly, sometimes more, but usually not severe.
I have several friends who do suffer from migraines. :-(
3 left, all Y's
Uno
I have a friend who has also suffered all her life and was under specialist care with not much effect, she recently had botox injections which has reduced the frequency and intensity.
I have 25 left, but they will have to wait until after supper.
Lynxxx, I have read about Botox for migraines. I have considered seeing a doc for that treatment.
Hi lynxxx.... I read about that somewhere, and I think I saw someone on TV speaking about it.
My last word = ye4/8. I say ye4/8 to migraines! Ye4, ye4, ye4!
Congrats Scrabs!
Now you can relax until it's time to go to bed, :-)
I'll be back later to finish....have fun, everyone !
bye Di
Reading back; god bless and forever keep the afternoon siesta!
Hi Crossy. I guess I was tired as I didn't take a short nap.
I find upto 90 minues is ok; any more that that and my head gets fuzzy and i feel unwell
You were gone for 3.5 hours; that is a night's sleep for me some days:(
I am fuzzy and dopey! I will stay up til 8:30 or so and go back to bed. Just an off day.
I am sure tomorrow will be a better day:-)
Crossy sings "the sun will come out tomorrow"....
Wednesday and Thursdays are long, intense days in the office. I am brain-dead by Thursday evening.
:(
Im am sue of that. I see many docs bounce non-stop from one staging room to the other. It must wear you down.
At pricess margerette in Toronto, my doc had 6!! Paitent rooms on the go t once. I got tired just watching!
Read through typos please
It is so overstimulating--see a patient every 15 -30 minutes, do everything on the computer, move, move, move, and don't get too far behind, field questions from the nurses, phone calls, refill rx's, ...
Our family doc takes up to 2 weeks to refill narcotic based meds. I haved learned to put in scrip way in advance
Everything on the computer takes time--click, click, check this box, check that box, etc.
I joke with him that it is a good thing that it is not heart meds that i am waiting for....
Iwould be one dead crossy
But saying all that, i waited for nothing during all my cancer treatments an appts. I got "sudden service" :-)
Ten years clean this sept from my first cancer btw:-)
Yay! You are very fortunate!
Indeed; this is my new life:-)
See you in the morning. Sleep well.
Tc, scrabby
lol, minus 4C tomorrow for a high. Winter is having one last kick at us it appears:/
it's really cold here too
must be at least 66F
And now it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!! before I head off for the night I wish to share with you some interesting info provided by Huffington Post on book vending machines and their history. I found it informative, and wonder about the viability of it all. I am sure that many would agree here on Babble that there is nothing finer than whiling away an hour or two in your favorite used book store searching for your next read. This is all part of the reading experience, and for me, is as comfortable as a favorite pair of slippers or that perfect reading chair in a quiet corner on a rainy Sunday afternoon. A machine, while handy would take away from the overall experience of buying a printed novel. http://tinyurl.com/mjdx426
lol@ 66f being "cold"
I had to put long pants on today :D
But then again my brother lives in vegas and he says his blood has gotten as thin as tap water from dealing with the heat there in the summer.
Gasp!! no!! LONG PANTS??! My god, how do you survive?? :))
I don't know.. but it was very uncomfortable
Las Vegas is a great place to live if you're a baked Potato
year before last my brother came home for Christmas, and we were ready for him. it was minus 42C in north Bay/ Timmins where the family gathered:)
I imagine everyone there has skin the consistency of a fine tooled leather saddle:))
wow. holy shit
at minus 40 the two scales meet;)))
the coldest I've ever been in was -67F in Manitoba
my feet got frostbite
That is also refreshing:))
that was with a wind chill factor.. I think it was 43 below. with wind
after minus 20 it is all just wind chill anyways. if the wind is down you are mostly ok. just have to make sure that things are not freezing and falling off...
I tried to x country ski on that day .. what an idiot I am
yes. i would not ski at minus 60
I was 20 or 21.. crazy..
On the other side of the coin, i am sure you have me beat in dealing with heat. Once it gets over 80F you can just forget about me and drag my carcass into the shade:)
I played tennis in 104-105 F
tournaments
also crazy
Once last summer i went hiking when it was close to 90F. What a nightmare Ended up with a BLEEDING heat rash on my inner thighs and a general heat rash all over my chest
rubbed the skin raw in several places:(\
re 6 pls
re8pls/
