*giggle* {{hugs}} my dear. how was your night? and how did the girl's fun day go?
hey my dear friend :) *hugs back* Night was ok, and the girl (and boy) had a fun prank day.
so glad on both accounts.
and you? How was your day and how are you feeling tonight?
doing well. pottered around and did little chores today. with lots of rest in between. xoxox
wow well done!
watching the Anzac service at Lone Pine. omg those poor turkish soldiers, that marching step would be a killer on the knees.
btw, easy peasy grid tonight.
looks like, indeed. Flew past halfway without even noticing
i greyed the top row in the first five minutes.
good job!
phantom: ottoman. And several babblets too that are almost there.
and motto.... i nearly went nuts with that one.... lol...
yeah that one too. Though it is compensated to a point by another similar word being valid.
because i was looking for motto, i nearly missed that one. it was a real palm-head moment.
ah, I know those moments. Nothing like babble to keep us humble, hm? :)
absolutely....
ah, dutch for aunt is in the grid... not valid, of course. 'Tante'.
valid word is close to that
it is funny, it appears in the english books of Faye Kellerman. Because she uses some Yiddish and German too.
yeah, found that one, thanks :)
thought provoking final words from the major-general leading the service. he said, the bones of our ancestors lie beneath the ground here. where ever you walk, tread so4ly.
yeah
sprite, why the physical need to fight? what is wrong with words? they don't kill.
world peace is my deepest prayer and wish. But it all begins close to home.
if all the men said no to violence....how wonderful would it be. and yes ISIS springs to mind. but fighting in defence is surely okay?
debatable. Because what is considered defence? Some will say it is defence to strike back when someone hits them. Others will say it is defence to kill people who don't believe the things you do.
yes, that would have to be delineated for sure.
and then there is the matter of how much fighting is ok. It should be either equal to the offence... or minimal just to counter the attack... and some people will strike back as hard as they can. Plus, think of all the family feuds etc. The one side's defence is the other's offence, and so it goes on and on and on.
found the F7. Could have sworn that was spelled with a ph.
i hear you, sweetie. us women must get together and sort out our men folk.not you and i, but women all over the world. stand firm, say no. that is inappropriate.
alternative spelling
mwah, I don't agree with you there. Women can be incredibly backstabbing and vicious, and they are known to be merciless killers too.
hmmmm, yeah.
those ones can take a back row... lolol
lolol
to be sedated with massive doses of valium and other mind-altering drugs...
and even ghandi seems to have beaten his wife. I truly feel that we all should try to give peace a chance at home. Start in our personal lives. That way, we begin to understand the frictions and tensions and powergames that create conflict, small and large.
absolutely, sprite. but as you know, violence begets violence. and it is only people like you and i who strive to break the chain.
as you kn ow, i have tried hard not to emulate my mother to the extent i very rarely wear a skirt or dress.
in my own life, I often see how complicated it is. For instance, to be at peace with my son, I should always let him step on me. Standing up for myself creates arguments. As does parenting... showing and telling him what to do and what not.
i know, dear love. and you MUST do that... or he will learn women cannot/will not react to protect themselves.
exactly. So it is complicated. I am convinced I have to show and tell Tim what is socially acceptable and what not. And terrorists are convinced they have to show and tell the world what to believe, or in which way, etc.
fireflies
sweetheart, concentrate on your son. and pray his spirit is protected from thugs like terrorists.
WTG SPRITE!!!
oh I do, lol. Daily. One thing I truly try to do is to not let my pride make an argument last. To apologise easily and freely, and to be willing to step over hurts.
good for you, sprite. so what is on for your day today?
not too much, I hope. Laundry, mostly. Very low key after yesterday's ordeal. And you are off to the grandkids tomorrow?
off to watch deacon's football game. then hurtling back to churh... we will be late but as we have a double baptism i am hoping we won't be missed... lol. then lunch out.
sounds good. I wish you a peaceful night, darling, and lots of fun tomorrow. *hugs*
xoxox my dearest. enjoy your day.
Good morning, everybody:)
g'day crossy. how are you mate?
not quite awake; 06:22 on a Saturday and the cat woke me up for breakfast.
hope it was tasty....
"no, he is a terrible cook--everything tasted like fish:p
roflool.....
it has been Anzac day here. we have been deluged with services, news reports, special documentaries. i honour the men who fought to keep us free.... but surely there has to be a limit.
looking up anzac day...
ahh, ok; Mostly like our November 11th--remembrance day
we celebrate BOTH !!
and this year because it is the centenary.... i think you are catching my drift.
I can imagine it is a sight to behold
Most of our old soldiers have moved on. Almost ithout exception all ate in their 90's
For ww2 vets that is
crossy, DH and i are both puzzled. they have incorporated poppies into this celebraion. before this year, poppies were only associated with remembrance day
today they commemorated all war vets. including vietnam, korea, faulklans, aghanistan...
and we agree with that.
Seems it used to be a Aussie-specific thing, but it has morphed
well aussie-new zealand thing.
Morning all
morning sukee, dear
Howdy, Sukee
Looks like a nice sunny day today.
oh, nice change, sukee.
Yup, minus 1C now and we are set to soar up to 6C:)
It's -4 here right now but going up to around 15 or so.
Comming down to your place for a bbq, sukee
15 is good, right ??
Not short weather but okay.
15c is about 60f, not bad at all
we have to be out of here by 9am tomorrow. not only is it deacon's sixth....THAT'S RIGHT...SIXTH...birthday, but he is playing football. so grannyrose has to be there to watch him.
Quite the active deacon--for a 6 year old:)
and it is claudia's 4th birthday next month. wahhhh.... make the world st4.
Smart kid to pass the seminary that quickly.
* eye rolling *
oh, you mean YOUR little deacon:)
* smacks crossy hard on his behind *
getting you back for my cats shoddy attempt at breakfast:)))
lolollll
The problem, I think, was the lack of thumbs...
but...but....but... deacon has both of his... i checked when he was born. ;-P
Well, he can play footie, so it is ok
The deacon, not the cat;)
{{hugs}} crossy
The cat does not care for Footie
((rosie))
Could I get a clue for to7, please?
Water vessel pulling another water vessel..Compound word.

Hi zoo

I think it's time to add spam to the dictionary.
i so agree, sukee
a little ship that pulls big ones. took me a minute as I was looking for kitchenware at first. i better go get a tea..brb
talk about a one track mind, crossy... lolol
:P
Decided I'm having a big breakfast today. Bacon, eggs, fried tomato, hash browns...
That's the stuff, sukee;))
I am just having tea and a bite of toast now, but a big brunch is planned when the rest of my family eventually awakens
Both my beloved and my son are nighthawks, but I am a confirmed morning bird:)
I tried to say up after 10PM last night but couldn't :)
i love a big breakfast... but not on the agenda for tomorrow.
maybe a big lunch... lol
I love the quiet of the dawn, the morning mist burning off the fields across the road and the hesitant song of the mourning doves as they greet the new day. Even better on a small lake up north listening to the haunting call of the loons echoing across the bay. No wonder I love mornings:)
like a baked potato with coleslaw, garlic butter, cheese, sour cream and crispy bacon. yup... that's about it. ;-P
mmm...bacon
Ah yes, the sound of the traffic on the highway, that is my first sound of the day :) Then someone using the garbage chute. And then maybe the birds chirping :)
oh, dear... roflol ... crossy and your bacon.
I cannot help it:)
If I get a place in the building I want to live in the next two years, it is quiet and has some park land.
sukee... because we sleep in the back half of the house...we usually awake to the sound of frogs or magpies.
On that note, I think it's time to go make breakfast.
Take care all.
xoxox sukee. you are precious.
and it is my pumpkin time. xoxox to all who follow.

I do not know why i do this to myself; IU am trying to resurrect a 2002 H.P Celeron laptop:( Has a whopping 500 meg of ram and a 40 50 gig hard drive:)) I may go mad with all of that power:)
Darn typos:(
50 gig*
That is one kick-ass machine, Crossy.
Indeed scrabby, but I am still looking for the slot to stick the wind-up key...
I thought those models had hamsters on treadmills.
Running C Cleaner is almost pushing it to its limit. I best the temp files and cookies have not been cleaned out in a decade:)
bet
The list of what it finds will be interesting
On the bright side the fan works and win XP service pack one is churning over like a trooper:)
A fun project for you.
good morning dear friends
Hi Trif. How is your back today?
I love rescuing old machine. people dump them for the next latest greatest model, but they forget that the older laptops were built like tanks compared to today svelte models that break when you breathe on them too hard...
Howdy, trif
better! much, actually. and I have learned to delegate, which is huge. tertiare has two teenage friends that are boys who I am paying to come over today and help me out. they are going to earn every penny, poor lads
*Still has one old monitor and one old TV, both with picture tubes
Oh poor Trif, did you catch Car's bad back?
Spring yardwork, Trif?
not exactly - hurt it overworking
some of that, yes, scrabbler, but also moving quite a bit of furniture in the house, and putting things up in the attic. I am redoing the office downstairs, which had become a terribly sad junk room....
Ah, I have done that. Nothing makes you appreciate all the hard work your back does until you throw it out.
indeed, molly. and good morning!
I have had many episodes of sciatica in the last 30+ years and that nerve pain is excruciating.
yes, it pretty much blows. The WORST part is that there is absolutely NO "powering through" it - that just makes it worse
Sadly, my sciatica has become "the new normal" must live with it it seems
I have stuff I need to get done! but I have had to readjust my definition of "need" - very, very frustrating
Yes, being on the disabled lit is awful.
nbt ---> feeling highly superior, hahaha
Go Trif, go.
My best friend when my back is out is one of those back braces that the FedEx and UPS guys wear. But mine isn't sciatica, it's just lower back strain
my best friend this week has been a moist heat heating pad that valentine loaned me...life saver!
Moist heat is the best
as I look around, I am finding it hard to prioritize what it is exactly that I want them to do...there is SO MUCH
I've heard Flexeril is good too, but you can't drive while taking it and it interacts with so many other medications
finish this fun time sentence from out youth "up and at'em, .... ..."
our youth....sorry

atom ant!
and I will happily go to the PB on his account, cute little bugger
TY for the clues.
hmmm, guess you all were being productive and active on Saturday mornings.....
I am trying to make a decision about laminate flooring and the number of choices is staggering.
are you doing it yourself?
No, my youngest partner's husband just created a handyman service and he will be working here for many months.
ah! okay.
then I guess it is just what color and finish you like, and what you can afford.
it will look so great when it's done! so there is that to fast forward to, in your mind
A win-win situation. He is doing the bathrooms first--new vanities, showers, etc..then painting, then flooring, ...and all of the little jobs that need to be done. I am a DIY-er but I just don't have the time to do it all.
delegating! it's a very valuable skill, as I am learning
I have reached the age (55) where I accept it is time to pay someone to do what I cannot.
that's where I am too. being a "thrifty" (cheap) new Englander it's hard for me to cough up the money, but I think I will be happy at the end of today.
I remember Atom Ant. I think he was the inspiration for Teeny Little Super Guy
having someone you can trust to do the work is most of the deal
another favorite! thanks for the memory jog, molly
Agreed, Owl, and I feel such a sense of relief to have John.
i called in a painter whom a coworker recommended. he asked if i wanted him to paint behind the refrigerator. i only work via recommendation and even then..
hi TO! how lovely to see you!
hi, trif. sorry your back is acting up,hope it is better soon.
36 left and I need a break.
firewords! tx Molly and all cluers - af6 foot & mouth disease was my last
lol, The hard drive sectors on this old Celeron are so fragmented it looks like Tom Sawyers old picket fence:) Already removed 8 gig!! of temp files and cookies and 9 viruses:/
Yaa for dan!!
oh heck, ive forgotten that word.
I'm still amused that Nan used to shop at a pottery store that was named after foot and mouth disease : D

I am not dyslexic, it's just that thinkle peep i are.
I just stole that to put on my FB status crosshair :)
making fun of those with real handicapping conditions is demaning and insulting to those who struggle every day to overcome these challenges
Good morning
Hello, Car :-)
Thanks Teach. My son is dyslexic and school for him was a terrible struggle.
dost
sorry
I don't think anyone was trying to make fun or be demeaning. I know two people who are dyslexic and they make fun of it all the time. Having a sense of humor about life is a valuable too.
tool
You are probably right, Molly, but as the mother there wasn't much to laugh at at the time. My son told me lately that he is glad now because dyslexics are good at solving problems and that is what he does for a living--in the IT department.
One of my friends who is dyslexic works for NASA. When he was a kid, dyslexia was not as well known and dealt with as it is now.
They are very smart usually. It was like that for my son too. They were just realizing this was the problem, not lack of attention or goofing off. He had a few teachers who saw the problem. He was the first child in his school to have a laptop in class. It was not a laptop as we know them now but the spell checker was a big help plus for some reason it helped him express himself better.
They are frequently made fun of, bullied in school. Many parents don't want their child lsabelled because of the problems that can bring. Kids don't want to be singled out to receive the help they need. I was in special ed since the early 60s and, unfortunately, this has always been a problem in getting the kids the help that they need to receive
I'm very thankful for the teachers he had and for the good outcome.
I am sorry if i upset anyone' but as an actual dyslexic who had great difficulty as a child i though it safe to take a poke at myself
As molly said earlier
I have read enough of what you say Crossy to know that you meant no harm.
That is well
I know that I am overly sensitive to this because of many years of watching "my" students being made fun of by others. Too mnay times things are said that are hurtful to others even though they might not be meant in that weay.
It is good to see that you are doing well too, Crossy.
My mind will stiil race ahead of thigs and a jumbled word will look right on the first pass, but as molly said, many dyslexics go on to full, productive carears
Maybe the stuggles they have help them to better deal with life later on.
Perhaps Oprah was qite dyslexic as a child
hello everyone
Well that way a typed mess...back in a min
Anyone have a clue for the so6/21
with a be in front it means head over heels in love
without the be I think it means drunk
Thanks Cybernan
was just reading the chog -- there is an eye condition involving muscular control that exhibits some of the same symptoms as dyslexia. People cannot track across a page and keep losing their place while trying to read, mixing up columns when trying to add , subtract, multiply or divide, transposing letters when writing. Fortunately it is easly cured with a period of regular eye exercises (easily diagnosed too, when you know what to look for!)
We actually tried that too.
do you mean the eye exercises, fcat? - did you use the swinging ball?
My son is 37 now so it was a while ago and I don't remember exactly what we did but they were tracking exercises. We found an optometrist who was endeavoring to help these children.
They didn't help him.
yes -- that's what happened to us too -- all 3 kids! Had to suspend one of those red white and blue rubber balls at eye level and have them try to track it swinging back and forth in various directions while keeping their heads absolutely still.
I liked that one better than having them track the concentric circles on a moving card because I could stand opposite and actually see what their eyes were doing -- fortunately, it did work for our kids
*!* ta da *!* - thank heavens for lickety's list -- wouldn't have been able to do it without the point count

Thanks Molly x
good morning, 18 to go

No worries!
I need the AF for the win....
First three of not before + last three of civil rights woman Parks
Bless you, Molly! Fireworks!
TYVM and have a great day everyone!
done
Surprising how much hit and run is done around here.
((wvteach))
I have mild dyslexia too and the same issue reading sometimes. But I don't mind making fun of myself either most times.
I believe wvteach was referring to all disablilties. As a mother of a developmentally disabled man I find all remarks about disabilties harmful and hurtful.
I made a comment about myself. People who have disabilities are often the first to make jokes about themselves. I have seen it time and time again.
I haven't, ru.
I work with Guide dogs for the Blind and the blind people I know are always joking around. As an example
I am speaking of people with developmental disabilities. They do not make fun of themselves. They, in turn, are made fun of and bullied as wvteach also pointed out.
the to 7, It isn't tow boat. What is it. Help
bichon, It is. Put it together
oh.. that I don't know about. I worked with Special Ed kids in High School and yes life was a little brutal for them. I was just commenting on my own dyslexia.
oh, ok, someone said it wasn't. TY Annie
ru, were you a special ed teacher?
Again, I don't think any comments made here were meant to be nasty or hurtful. Life is far to serious to be taken seriously.
no.. I worked with the kids as a senior and did a newspaper where the kids did Art, and poems and writing that was distributed in my school for the regular students
I agree molly... sometimes a comment just hits people in a bad way. It happens
well, then I am sure you heard all the hurtful remarks directed at them and about them. Enuf said.
Oh I did Annie.. which is why (I was the editor of my high School newspaper) I took on the project to show the student body that these are people who have feelings and are creative. It was also a tremendously rewarding experience for me.
I still have that newspaper I created..
greetings everyone from the Pacific North West! I hope I am not interrupting, just wanted to say hello
hi saan
Understood Ru.I do think it's important to mention that no one was being intentionally mean or cruel, or bullying anyone with a disability.
ru, it is not you so much as another babbler who got my dander up. that babbler will remain anonymous. now I got it all out.
and it is not Molly,
hello all. I have to7. help with other 7 pls
Thank you Annie. I'm sure everyone would have assumed it was me.
That is why I rescued you.

hello everybody
The magic cortisone injection did nothing except hurt and leave me in as much pain as before. I am very discouraged
it takes a few days to help ruby.. give it time
Ruby are you still in pain from pleurisy?
yes, molly. It was starting to improve but then got worse, not as bad as it was in the winter, but very tough nonetheless
I missed today's controversy. I guess that's a good thing
At least it's raining, another good thing.
oh.. just wait a bit ruby.. there'll be another any time now to jump in on.. lots of sensitivity here lately :D
I am trying to get up my courage to eat dinner. The local Sicilian sent me two octopi but they are so big (I'm used to small ones, cut up) that just opening the package is creepy
They are really ugly
just open it tentically
They are sort of reddish brown......
(holds off upset octopi lovers comments)
tentically? is that like tentatively? (slow, i know)
:D a bad pun doren
I generally like exotica like that, but this may be too edgy, even for me
they've been known to happen :-)
I thought it was a cuddly pun
I'll eat them if others have done the dirty work, but can't imagine handling one myself..
I like exotica too.. but it doesn't involve octopi
they're cooked, but whole, and even have the heads on
are the at4, 5 & 6 related?
change the first consonant, ru?
ugh ruby.. how bout a nice pork chop ruby and call it a day
read my mind doren :D
it may be one of those out of the frying pan into the garbage dinners
yes python they are
sorry, hon, but your mind isn't all that hard to read!
* Shocked *
as opposed to shockING..
as the weightlifter said to the mermaid who was granting his wishes, "How about a little head"
Ru, your icon reeks of hostility... any special reason?
sorry, just changing the subject and providing a punch line, rather than the whole joke
on second thought, icons can't actually reek. Let's say that it emanates hostility?
you don't think it's cuddly?
cuddly? well, maybe to some.
oh i meant ru as in ruru, not ruby
*sniffs icon.. nope.. smells okay to me*
hostility is as hostility does I've always said
we're actually the same person, he's just the smart part
I'll bring back pope frites for sunday doren.. this is only a short comment to an asshole player
and the funny, cuddly part
ok
good night
night ruby.. squid into a nice book
night
see you calamari
can someone help with some cooking advice?
What advice do you need TO?
we all like to give advice owl........;et er rip
i need to cook chicken for use in a casserole. i hate bland chicken but poaching is the only was i can think o f to do this (skinless meat). anyone have any methods for seasoning and poaching? or other recommendations?
poaching is like making chichen soup. I would put in salt and pepper and some onions
the chicken will absorb the salt and pepper from thewater
and garlic.........LOTS of garlic
yes, garlic is always good
i have never made chicken soup. i will try this, ty.
Though I mostly lurk, I couldn't resist leaping into a discussion of cooking. Don't waste chicken breasts on soup-there's more flavour for that in the dark meat and bones. For the breasts, saute some chopped onions and garlic. Add whatever other veg you like (mushrooms, leeks, celery, tomatoes, peppers). When they've softened, add some tomato sauce (optional), water, white wine-just enough to barely cover the breasts which you now add to cover the veg in a single layer. cover tightly and simmer till the chicken is done, probably about 30 min. This iss essentially poaching, but more flavoourful than using just water. Bon appetit!
One good thing about using breasts for soub is that there's less fat.
sounds wonderful jrs
ty for the advice,jrs/
Thanks, Sammysmom. It's very adaptble, too. for pseudo-French, leave out the garlic and tomato sauce, using just mushrooms, leeks & white wine. For pseudo-cacciatore, use just onions, garlic, and mushrooms. Substitute some tomatoe paste for the sauce & thin with white wine (and a little brandy, if you feel like it). For pseudo-Chinese, leave off the tomatoes altogether, bot sauce and veg. Substitute soy sauce to taste for the tomato sauce, rice wine, if you have it for white wine, and add just a touch of sesame oil. For pseudo-Hungarian, leave off the garlic and all other veg except tomatoes and peppers. Stir in LOTS of paprika, use water only, no wine. Enjoy!
my pleasure, TO
ad 5, pls
nm
some of our favorite dishes have come about by using whatever is at hand
A great way to cook, isn't it, sammysmom?
yes, the path to becoming a cook is about what goes with what and basic techniques. i am watching a guy friend trying to use his familys recipes, but he has no technique.
I agree about wasting chicken breasts in soup. Soup is for dark meat and other parts of chicken.
And don't use frozen vegetables in crock pot recipes unless you are aiming for a pot of mush. Slow cooker, crock pot recipes are for fresh vegetables.
Agreed, TO, but don't you think that a sense of what goes with what trumps technique? All the technique in the world won't help if a cook can't taste in his/her head what tastes well with what.
i do not like dark meat. i will add some thigh meat.but i just do not like dark. i do not like anything fatty. just taste
well, i agree but when tried and true recipes don't work, it has to be technique. Or ingredients.,don't you think?
Hi, Molly! You're right about the frozen veg, but the recipes i was outlining will cook in 1/2-3/4 hrs. And TO, maany people don't like dark meat. Those recipes work very well with chicken breasts.
i would love to have some crock pot recipes. i think, way back when there was a bulletin board, that we posted recipes there.
I think that if tried and true recipes don't work, it may be that the person writing out the recipe may have omitted some key steps that seem second nature, so actually, the recipe is more of a guideline than a true recipe. For example, in the Hungarian preparation below, you don't have to tell a Hungarian cook that lots of paprika means 2-3 tbsp if it's actually measured out, or that the paprika has to be added to a dry pan to coat the veg, and that the water only comes later. This isn't really technique, but rather just knowledge handed down from one cook to another. Technique certainly makes a cook's life easier, but I don't know that I'd call this sort of knowledge technique.
good point.
anyone have to7/32? going out tonight and need to finish,
Sorry, TO, but I have no crock pot recipes. It's one area of cooking that I've never explored. My niece, a college junior recently acqured a slow cooker. I foound a great cookbook for her put out by Cook's Illustrated that describes all sorts of techniques for not turning your food into mush. I'll try to find the link, if you'd like.
ty. i must go, enjoyed the chat. returning to cooking after a long layoff. rusty!
here it is: http://americastestkitchen.buysub.com/
Slow cooker recipes are good if you use tougher cuts of meat that need to tenderize over time, and fresh vegetables. Putting a fast cooking meat like chicken in a slow cooker for six hours or more will give you mushy meat. Same goes for frozen vegetables that only require a short cooking time.
hello
dull place, today
Howdy, Harp:)
I have a laptop repair job going on the side, so I am in and out today:)
Not so much a repair job per se, but more of a D&C from hell.
really, laptop repair? We were just trying to decide if we dare to replace a monitor on our own.... or hire it out
