HI, I'm listening to khan academy videos on the periodic table while I babble.

nbt, so b.e.d. nite all!

5:16 am

Good morning, everybody! I have been lax in my tidbits this week, so to make it up to all my rabid fans I am going to spend the next few days posting some of my favorite Zen Pencil Items. If you have never heard or seen Zen pencils, I highly recommend it! I will start you off with one http://tinyurl.com/oyafnkd but if you go here http://zenpencils.com/ and click on the drop-down menu on the top right-hand side of the page, you will have 175 inspiration Zen pencil comics to choose from. Enjoy!

5:40 am

Good morning.

5:42 am

Good comic there.

5:47 am

Yes, there are lots of great ones in the archives on the site as well.

5:51 am

Can't believe we are at May 24 weekend already. It is supposed to warm up again.

5:52 am

I have wine in for the long weekend :)

5:52 am

That's right, I forgot. This Monday is an off day:)

5:53 am

Wine is a total waste on me. i used to drink wine while waiting for the real booze to show up:)

5:53 am

I was thinking it would be next week.

5:54 am

I haven't had a drink for a while, not even at Christmas :) That gum is still bothering me a bit, the alcohol should help a bit. I am thinking it's not my tooth but that I probably got a raspberry seed under my gum.

5:54 am

The calenders have shifted over the years, so May 2-4 is no longer actually on May 24th itself:)

5:55 am

I guess it's now the 3rd Monday in the month regardless.

5:55 am

How should we celebrate Queen Victoria? :D

5:56 am

I also have not drank anything in at least 8 months:(

5:57 am

Al wine does now is make me sleepy and turn my legs to rubber :) But I do like the taste.

5:57 am

She was a foul, vain woman while in power, so the best way to celebrate is to have a drink, plant our gardens and raise a glass to the old battle-axe.

5:58 am

lol

5:59 am

In coin collection, especiall in the early large canadian peiines from 1858 to 1901, Victoria's image on the coin had at least three different version because she lost her mind when the early attempts portrayed her double or triple chins:)

6:00 am

Counting her chins is a way to identify coin run varieties;)

6:02 am

Hearing about BB King, hearing he died made me tear up this morning.

6:02 am

I used to collect coins for years. Interestingly enough the 1858 and 1859 coins were shipped over from England's and the Heaton Mint, since we still did not have our own mint. Those two years had to last us for the next 17 years before we stamped our own:) History is a funny thing:)

6:03 am

Before 1858, we had upper and lower canada tokens oand local trade tokens instead. Either that or barter in raw gold or silver.

6:04 am

Very interesting.

6:04 am

it was. i own one or two tokens, but have since sold them

6:05 am

And of course any world-wide gold coinage was bartered by weight, regardless of country origin.

6:06 am

lol. I will stop boring the chog:)

6:10 am

Sorry, I was running around getting ready.

6:11 am

Only have time to grab a banana for breakfast.

6:13 am

mmm, now I want to make banana bread;)

6:15 am

I was not dissing you not responding, Sukee, just sometimes I tend to drift off on random topics and have to catch myself:)

6:15 am

I know.

6:17 am

WEll, I have to go now, take care

BB King music playing all day in the PB bar. Special of the day is The BB King Cocktail. Alas, The Thrill Is Gone.

7:35 am

Nice.

7:53 am

ya 4/10 is the southern way of speaking to a group

7:55 am

Hmm, and all this time I thought it was a boat. : D

7:55 am

It's a homophone

8:01 am

Wonders if there is a heterophone

8:01 am

You're up early ru

8:02 am

I was just thinking that there are people who probably consider the word homophone politically incorrect.

8:03 am

yes, those who are illiterate

8:05 am

Mostly centered around berkeley and oakland

8:10 am

They wear Birkenstocks.

8:21 am

hi all.

8:21 am

I never wore Birkenstocks but I did have a pair of navy blue clogs back in the day. I loved them.

8:24 am

hello friends

8:25 am

Molly, that is completely, and sadly, true - a man in Utah was fired - FIRED - from his job for teaching about homophones. They accused him of "promoting the gay agenda"

8:26 am

ARGGGGG

8:26 am

Newsweek reported on it in July of 2014

8:26 am

what happened to the freedom to teach?

8:27 am

I am subbing right now and when a student asks me to call him/her buy their transgender name, I DO.

8:29 am

absolutely. We have our first TG student this year, who has now earned the legal right to use the boys bathroom, locker room, etc. It's new ground, to be sure, but he is finding acceptance

8:31 am

I love Jesus and he loves me! He loves my gay sons and they love Him! What the heck is the problem????

8:31 am

Don't know if anyone remembers a show Marlo Thomas did MANY years ago but it was called "Free to Be You and Me." Guess we still haven't learned.

8:32 am

Sadly, there are a lot of "Christians" who would tell you that Jesus doesn't love your gay son.

8:33 am

Then they are not reading the words, just making up from hate or condemnation of the old testaments.

8:33 am

I'm not even speaking of the gay issue - this guy was talking about HOMOPHONES - and got fired. Have people lost their minds completely?

8:34 am

Are you serious? like the words that sound the same but have two different meanings??? that word?

8:34 am

Yes Trif, they have.

8:34 am

that's the one, sue.

8:34 am

They better get nailed to a cross for that!!!

8:35 am

sick bastards

8:35 am

It's too bad people aren't secure enough within themselves to allow others to lead the lives they want to lead. Who am I to judge someone else?

8:35 am

I know of an elementary school who had to take down a bulletin board the kids did about the westward movement in American history because it said "Westward Ho!!"

8:35 am

amen mimi

8:36 am

hahahahaha molly!

8:36 am

Nailed to a cross???

8:36 am

:)) And there sure were a lot of those in the old west, right? I probably would have been one!

8:38 am

oh my God...what are you going to do about Santa Claus?????? Kill Him he says HO HO HO to everyone

8:38 am

And comes into your house while you are sleeping...whoa.

8:39 am

lol

8:39 am

sue, a friend of mine moved to a remote area of Indonesia for a while, for her husband's job. Though almost no one in the area was Christian, for some reason the stores and towns got all decked out for "Christmas" but they really didn't get it - Santa on a cross was EVERYWHERE

8:39 am

are you naughty or nice

8:39 am

and several stores had displays featuring Jesus driving the sleigh. Her photos are HILARIOUS

8:39 am

Some people just need to get real lives of their own and maybe they won't have time to criticize others.

8:40 am

dont worry trif, i am sure we will do that here since the kids here know about as much about Christmas as they do

8:40 am

Funny, Trif. What a HOot!

8:41 am

This year for prom the High School set up a red carpet area that led to the buses driving the kids to the event. Due to time constraints, the last group of kids didn't get to walk the carpet. Big deal. Some mothers were CRYING, complaining to the principal, besides themselves. I couldn't EVEN

8:41 am

Santa on a cross is kind of dark

8:42 am

I think proms have gotten so over the top.

8:42 am

I want one more than I can fully articulate, molly

8:42 am

I like the Jesus driving the sleigh, i think i will get one of those. At least it is the real meaning of Christmas.

8:43 am

I like that idea, too, sue.

8:43 am

well you know it could not have possibly been the kids fault for getting there late. It is never the kids fault. Heavens for bits

8:44 am

it was the first year they tried it, next year they will do a better job timing the walking. No harm, no foul. For goodness sake, kids DIE every day.....get some perspective moms!

8:45 am

Is it just me or is this a tough little grid?

8:45 am

Ah yes, Jesus driving a sleigh. THAT is the true meaning of Christmas.

8:45 am

I am subbing and all of the directions for the teachers are about individual work....let me ask you all, how many of you have EVER worked at a job that you are supposed to rely on just your own knowledge? How can we still be teaching this way instead of cooperative learning?

8:46 am

I cant' budge the a in the top row - count please?

8:46 am

i got an44 girls na4

8:47 am

thanks sue. And I have had similar frustrations with sub plans - they are either written down to the minute, or not written at all, and either way the teacher chews your butt. It's a no win

8:49 am

Gotta get to work. Expecting lots of rain here in Phoenix today---YAY!! Have a "good Friday" everyone!

8:50 am

bye mimi -= remember to take your umbrella!

8:51 am

I work at home so I can just enjoy it!

8:54 am

2nd column g?

8:54 am

hello all

8:54 am

nm

8:54 am

my kids lie to the teacher and tell them i was a miserable bitch, so the teacher brings me back. I only sub HS now. I make a hall pass that they take at will, one at a time, and dont ask. I tell them if they cant find the way back, to go to the nurse because they have something wrong with them and that is not my job. I tell them to eat and drink because physically they can NOT learn is the state of dehydration or hunger, but I am not their mother so they better clean up after themselves. I always start my class by telling them i have one rule in my life "that i respect you. What you do with it, how you honor it, is up to you each. There are consequences to your actions. But know that i am just a sub so i dont care what happens to you tomorrow. That is between your parents and the school if you get in trouble...i just sub another class tomorrow. Today i will be the last to leave in a fire and the first to the door if there is danger, but make no mistake, i will not disrespect you as i ask you to leave, and you WILL leave." In 4 years of subbing my way, i have never had an issue. They deserve respect before they respect me.

8:54 am

how about the I on he 2nd column instead?

8:56 am

dont have 2nd column a yet

8:57 am

sue no need the I .found the a word on that column:)

8:57 am

8:57 am

Aw, that is a great picture of BB, Judi

9:51 am

ty molly, as usual

9:53 am

halfway!

9:53 am

later!

10:22 am

well, I'm sooo disappointed . . . tickets went on sale this morning at 10:00 for Neil deGrasse Tyson at TN Performing Arts Ctr Nov. 18 -- at exactly 10:00 I started trying to buy tix on their website -- you're not going to believe this but according to their website all seats were already sold out -- at least for Wednesday -- so I tried calling their tix phone no. and the recording said "wait time will be over 60 minutes" -- I give up

10:23 am

only 2 performances and the friends going with me can't go on the 19th --- of course, it's probably sold out as well

10:31 am

what does he... do?

10:31 am

i mean he's a scientist, does he just lecture?

10:31 am

is it a comedy routine?

10:31 am

he's a world-famous scientist -- speaker, writer, has TV show

10:32 am

i know i just wonder what he woudl DO for a live performance

10:32 am

he's brilliant and clever and just a downright genius!

10:32 am

what would this particular performance consist of

10:33 am

I assume he'd speak on a variety of topics -- am a HUGE fan

10:33 am

that is all i wondered

10:33 am

I wasn't sure why a lecture by this guy would be so popular.

10:34 am

wow, just tried to get into their website to see how they described his performance -- high volume has crashed it -- good grief

10:34 am

so many academics are boring public speakers that when they find a good one they really latch on to him

10:36 am

i could watch/listen to him read the phonebook -- he's a fantastic speaker . . . sigh

10:37 am

he's written at least 10 books -- this may be in part to promote his newest publication . . .

10:40 am

ok here's what his Austin publicity says re this tour: an evening of engaging conversation on science, exploration and the world as we know it.

10:40 am

Lucky you Une, I would love to see NDT live.

10:41 am

unlucky me -- was sold out the minute the tix went on sale :-((

10:41 am

I'm crushed :-(

10:41 am

Oh sorry, I thought you were going.

10:42 am

me too, sukee!!

10:42 am

Do you get to watch his talk show, I don't get that channel?

10:42 am

gonna try the phone no. again

10:47 am

Just got my lunch delivered :)

10:49 am

on hold -- no longer citing wait times - we'll see how long i can stand being on hold lol!

10:49 am

Good luck.

10:49 am

tx

10:49 am

Une is the Fan Girl deluxe

10:51 am

I know it's not quite noon but I'm having a glass of wine with my lunch :) It's a long weekend here :)

10:53 am

I don't even know anything about Tyson

10:54 am

wow! I got a human being on the phone -- she said they've actually had more calls re Tyson than for Bob Dylan tix!!!

10:54 am

He is an astrophysicist, hosted the show Cosmos, is the director of the Hayden Planetarium. I follow him on Facebook.

10:54 am

Lol

10:55 am

she took my name and no. and will call when they can get into their system -- they can't even get in themselves!

10:56 am

Let's hope she does :)

10:59 am

keeping my phone by my side all day!

10:59 am

oh, and did I mention the performance isn't even until November 18?!

11:00 am

Popular guy.

11:02 am

it actually warms the cockles of my heart that he's able to get people that interested in science

11:02 am

For sure.

11:03 am

He sounds like the UUSue of the real live world

11:03 am

what are the stats for the y, and the lone i please?

11:03 am

oh, just scrolled down, yes, sukee, I have the channel that broadcasts his new TV show, Startalk -- i think it's one of the "family" of National Geographic channels

11:03 am

ya 4/10

11:03 am

so far there have only been 3 episodes

11:04 am

The lone I is an adverb, cold

11:04 am

wonders why there are cockles in Une's heart?

11:04 am

ic 5/16

11:04 am

thanks

11:04 am

That whole cockles thing has always confused me

11:05 am

Oh he is such a rock star! Whenever he's been on Jon Stewart or Steven Colbert's shows, he's been the perfet combination of witty and edifying.

11:05 am

Arianna Huffington, Christopher Nolan, Dan Savage

11:06 am

I totally agree, doren!!!

11:06 am

I'd love to see him live. When I was volunteering for the Jazz at the Planetarium series many many years ago, I noticed this charismatic guy with a bunch of other men, several Friday nights. Had no idea who he was then, but just knew he was someone important.

11:06 am

stats for the far left h?

11:06 am

Ooo, another fan girl checks in. This Science Guy has quite a following.

11:06 am

did you see my earlier post, doren? he crashed the Tenn. Performing Arts ticketing site this morning!

11:07 am

ha 4/6

11:07 am

thanks nbt and nbs

11:07 am

hi 4/8

11:08 am

wouldn't dream of comparing him to Bill Nye ("the Science Guy"). My grandkids loved watching him on the recreated Cosmos. Hah, Une. not surprised. Hey Une, going to Wolf Hall part I on Sunday. Did you watch the PBS series?

11:08 am

omg!!! how fabulous, doren!!!!

11:09 am

I have been here about an hour and I think I have found one more word :)

11:09 am

haven't watched the PBS series yet -- will watch it On Demand soon :-)

11:09 am

Une, I didn't know you're in Nashville too!!

11:09 am

I had thought I'd been to enough theater this year, but then TDF offered $39 tickets, so.....

11:09 am

Bill Nye's a very cool science guy as well!!

11:09 am

I'm too busy watching baseball these days.

11:09 am

logic

11:09 am

$39?! are you kidding?!

11:10 am

d'oh! Sorry all.

11:10 am

Thank you redshoes :)

11:10 am

I had missed that one.

11:10 am

no idea where the seats are though. that's what TDF does. So, Mark Rylance is in the PBS version and he is just genius!!

11:10 am

I do what I can. It was my first word. Ha.

11:11 am

thanks reds.

11:11 am

it's not a very big theatre though, right?

11:12 am

Tony Awards tribute to Tommy Tune this year should be GREAT!

11:12 am

wintergarden... don't think it's one of the smaller ones. I've been so lucky in other areas of my life... I decided I'll take my chances. If they're not great seats, I'll still enjoy

11:12 am

Cool, the Tony Awards are my favorite awards show.

11:12 am

back when i was going on theatre tours with my mom every year, we saw several shows he starred in :-)

11:12 am

oh, ok, yeah Wintergarden's big

11:13 am

isn't that where Phantom played for years?

11:13 am

I like the fact the awards let you see parts of plays.

11:13 am

me too, sukee!

11:13 am

Yes.. He's an amazing talent. My very good friend has a condo in South Beach and I've been there with her often. Yoga on the beach at 7 AM.. Tommy is there every time we've been. Front and center. and a very sweet guy.

11:13 am

how fun!!!!

11:14 am

i think i saw Cats there, but not sure. Just know I've been there often.

11:14 am

he was so adorable in My One and Only with Twiggy :-)

11:14 am

Cats, yes

11:14 am

and Grand Hotel . . .

11:14 am

I saw Cats on Broadway, I fell asleep.

11:15 am

omg sukee - i loved it!!

11:15 am

It was not the play but we had been walking around all day from one end of Manhattan to the other.

11:15 am

I fell asleep for a minute during "Memories."

11:15 am

Me too! (loved it) Though I've been known to fall asleep at theaters, very briefly, even when I've loved the shows.

11:16 am

I just discovered that a glass of wine is great for a nagging toothache. It's been getting better every day but this is better than aspirin :)

11:17 am

i'll try to remember that next time i have a toothache.

11:17 am

LOLOLOL I once did that -- had flown in from Nashville - had been up nearly all nite the nite before -- fell asleep so HARD, I woke up with my head in Jennifer's lap :-)

11:17 am

As long as it's not too sweet.

11:18 am

I'm drinking a merlot cabarnet :)

11:18 am

downto 28...got to run now. Enjoy the day (and the wine).

11:18 am

Take care.

11:18 am

bye doren!

11:22 am

later, sukee -- off to make some coffee -- enjoy your merlot :--)

11:23 am

See ya, I'm taking a break too. Not finding much.

11:41 am

Hello :)

12:21 pm

Wine in the afternoon. You go Sukee.

1:30 pm

Have three glasses for me, sukee:)

2:54 pm

Almost 9 o clock (wine o clock) here. Wine and Soodle both chilling. Evening all!

2:55 pm

Hello Soodle. Nice to hear from someone who really likes wine. Slainte.

2:57 pm

Whoosh! This glass of wine is eagerly anticipated. I'm having an Aged Parent Free Friday. My phone is switched off & I'm switching off too. Lol. Bottoms up!

2:58 pm

Enjoy your Aged Parent Free Day/Night.

2:58 pm

And, hey! Who doesn't like wine?

3:02 pm

Earlier it was reported that wine is a total waste. I think some people enjoy it as their drink of choice. It beats Vodka straight out of the bottle.

3:50 pm

hi 5, pls

3:51 pm

nm

4:40 pm

anyone here?

5:33 pm

Tough little grid this is:(

5:40 pm

Hi crossy. Left a note yesterday --- last check all clear, so I don't have to go back for a YEAR. Hurrah!

5:41 pm

Personally, I never said it was a waste, rather, I said that wine was wasted on me. I said this because it does not matter if it is a 5 dollar bottle of wine made last week, or a ten thousand dollar bottle that has been aging in some rich guys cellar for 50 years, it all tastes the same to me--grape juice.

5:41 pm

Yaa for ch1212!!!

5:42 pm

Now, a 20 year old bottle of single malt, aye, that is a thing of beauty:)

5:43 pm

My beloved is a single malt fan too. Every so often we make the splurge.

5:43 pm

:)

5:43 pm

Yup, just a tbs or two of water to release the aromas, and yer good to go.

5:44 pm

And on that happy note, I'll be back for tomorrow's grid ---- he's on vacation this week, and we're taking day adventures. Happybabbling!

5:45 pm

I will look forward to seeing you tomorrow, ch1212:)

5:45 pm

Yummm ... single malt scotch! I have a bottle myself.

5:46 pm

The small, craft distillers are best, but it is so expensive:(

5:47 pm

hi everyone

5:48 pm

crossy if wine tastes like grape juice you are not drinking the right kind of wine! A fine wine is just like a fine single malt and should be tasted in the same manner -- small estate wineries produce the best

5:49 pm

We are fortunate in that we have a Canadian Mist distillery right here in town. Every once in a while they uncask a rare wonder out of their storage facilities to share with the locals.

5:49 pm

We are lucky in that there are different tipples for different folks, cybernan:)

5:50 pm

single malt rye, crossy?

5:51 pm

yup. Not something I am heavily into, but it is a nice change over swilling vodka.

5:53 pm

Recently our Canadian Mist uncasked a 40 year old and blended it with two others, a 20 year old, and a ten, and named it after our home town. they produced a very small batch. was very nice.

5:53 pm

biab

6:06 pm

6:09 pm

TheÅ—e, have rhe tablet going. Please excuse rhe typos if they become worse rhan usual :-)
