Morning all. May I please have a clue for sh6-24 the 2nd? Thanks
hi Peach
sorry, don't have it - will look
Hi there, flosey. Thanks for looking.
3 consonant start peach
thanks Vanillaslice
yw + plural
your strawberries look yummy - had some tonight from a neighbourhood farmer
Our crop was great this year, we'll be eating jam till 2020
ah, lovely
we don't grow them ourselves
Thanks much, vanilla.
yvw
mind you, I won't be making 2020. I'm now on chemo, had radiation and I'm glad I'm having a great day today
all the best with the chemo
ty its not the nicest
They are still hoping to slow down the process
Gosh, vanilla, I did not know. Will it be alright for me to pray for you? I will be glad to, if it is OK with you
no, not pleasant at all
I'd love that peach, just a few days ago I received a crocheted blanket made by a group of church ladies, each square made with a special prayer for my wellbeing, I was overwhelmed
There is still a great amount of good people left.....my granddaughter has a rare kind in her brain. Was clear for 7 years but it has spread to other parts of her body. She is on chemo only now. She has an 8 year old son. Says she knows she won't see him grow up.
I spent time in the city for radiation and was there with a number of children and young adults, it humbles you to see their strength
Yes, I'm sure it does.
Did you do the Proton Beam Radiation Therapy earlier?
Not sure. For the bladder it was normal radiation, for the lung cyberknife. There's only a few in the world and it's a far greater dosage but homes in much better on the tumor
Just looking it up that sounds much like the cyberknife I had.
There were only 2 here in the US when she had that therapy.....one in Boston and one in Loma Linda, Ca. Now there are quite a few. You could go on like and just type in Proton Beam Radiation locations. Wpuld there be a way for you to come here?
go on line....sorry
now there's one in Seattle, WA, Peach, that's where my daughter went - we don't have that facility in Canada yet
would. Golly, I must be getting sleepy. Sorry
Oh, flosey, I didn't know. I will put her on my list also.
she's been through the course, Peach, now just has the mri's regularly to see that it hasn't come back
Looks like there's a bit of controversy whether cyberknife or Proton Beam is better. Nothing is straightforward is it.
No, it isn't. Perhaps it is because it is rather new.
They also can't treat all cancers the same. I've also been inundated with quack treatments that's why I generally steer away from talking about it on social media
so much of it is relatively new and they're learning more and more all the time - amazing how much they're still learning
We have come a long way in our lifetimes, eh, flosey?
At my age I'm not desperate, I know my wife will be well looked after by the children and grandchildren.
understand your attitude vanillaslice, there is still a lot of quackery - do have to be careful
indeed, Peach
And the quality time we're now having is amazing.
With that I must love and leave you, some great old friends have just lobbed in. Have a good day, I will pray for your daughter flosey
Sweet dreams, vanillaslice.
thanks Vanillaslice, bless you, now have a good time with your friends
Oh, gosh, flosey......I forgot the time difference.
almost midnight here, where are you Peach
Almost 3:00AM here, flosey. What time is it in Australia?
it could be breakfast time in Australia, depending where he is
that would be tomorrow
5PM Eastern Daylight Time is 9AM in Sydney.
That is 9AM the next day.
Thanks.
I use to play bridge with a chap from Aus. he was 17 hours ahead of us
Thanks dcseain.
good evening, flosey and peach
hi there Seain, don't see you very often
ergo 20 hours ahead of us.
g'day everyone
Haven't seen much of you lately, dcseain. Hope all is well with you.
Hey there, Rose
evening, rose
hi there Rose - what time is it now, where you are
it'is 5pm here on the eastern seaboard.
so 14h ahead of us in the Eastern US/Canada time zone.
it's nearly 3pm on the western seaboard
yes, so you are 17 hours ahead of BC
brb

Hi une
wanted to say howdy! taking pups out to pee, grabbing a coffee, then returning to tackle the grid :-)
Howdy, Une
now one w left:)
A lovely cool start to June. There might be frost tonight.
was 2 c here this morn, but is a balmy 7 atm
but low 20's for highs for the rest of the week and mostly sunny--I can live with that:)
Same here.
I no long need or want "crisp on the beach temps"
The Mrs and I had a lovely hike yesterday and with it being 11c , we had no issues with the mosquito's:)
So ridiculous, some school board has decided to get rid of school librarians.
!!!
and who is going to keep the library organized??
me5
They probably expect volunteers.
sure.. that will work.. everyone will try and be the boss
As a person with a library background, I think it is awful. Librarians (and technicians like I was) are definitely needed.
Yes, and they will choose books based on personal likes or dislikes or religion, etc.
I think I heard that PA no longer has public libraries run by the state. Shocking. Hope things have changed.
I do not know about other areas, but our little town of 26,000 would be totally lost without our library!
The US seems to be going backwards. We need someone to step in like Carnegie did in his time. Now they are too greedy it seems. They can always find money for the military.
So much happens there.
Indeed. sadly our very own Carnegie library burned down in the 1920's but there has always been another built to house our books.
Although, small lending libraries are popping up. People put a box or book case on their lawn and tell people they can borrow them.
Libraries are also important for kids who don't have a computer at home.
brb, have to brush my teeth :)
Our new library is the hub of the town. Not only books, but meeting places for book clubs, and study get-togethers, as well as language classes. Local artists can also get free space to hang their works for all to see. Plus all the town archives and local family records going back generations are stored there.
yes, computers as well, and this new building has a green roof where you can go up there and sit amongst the trees and flowers and look out over georgian bay while enjoying your next read
The kids can even bring their e-readers to the children's section and the librarian will help them load up a few books from the data base.
technology and books on the shelves spanning the last 100 years or so live in harmony. it is a nice place:)
Sounds great.
was worth every dime:)
we have one man here who constantly puts articles in the paper on how they should close the library..i dont think he ever stepped foot in one
That is sad:(
They just fixed up our main library here, haven't been yet but here it is great. Has a lot of the same features.
hear :)
I want to go there and check Ancestry.com, you can use it free inside the library.
and as for volunteers, we have our share and they for the most part are more trouble than help
Anyway, I have got to run. Take care all.
tc, sukke
and what is this guy's reasoning for closing the library??
says it cost the city too much money, we operate on a budget of $139 thous. .that includes wages. which are miniumum wage
That is not much at all
this from someone who was a cop and prob. gets quite the retirement check...lol. more than i make i am sure
Our new place cost ten million--half of which was raised within a month by donations and it is 4 floors including the town archive storage and Coast guard office
would love to see that.. i love looking at different libraries.. some are just amazing
Google Collingwood Ontario library
actually I will get the link for u
ok ty
here is the home site. i will also post somne pics... 1 sec..
http://tinyurl.com/ouj5rab
here are some good pictures...
http://tinyurl.com/qeuzk99
some of those pics are mixed, but you can pick the ones out of the library
on the 8th row down you can see a pick of our old Carnegie library
what a beautiful place! was looking at the new books hours etc.. and so many prgrams offered.
I see they just had a childrens art class where all the kids got together and made bird feeders;))
Libraries are just too valuable. tell that ex-cop of yours to go pound sand;)
Yeah for libraries and librarians
we consider then source.. he doesnt use the library, so he thinks it should close. wonder how he would like all the kids that hang out there, walking the street....
Howdy, Bichon
Yes, the libraries are a hive of activity for the kids, and even more important in smaller towns that cannot support a large entertainment infrastructure.
and now i must get moving to go to work..at the library.. monday fun day, we are closed sundays so makes for an interesting crowd trying to get the door open before we open..lol
Mr. Bich is a retired librarian
cool:)
have a good day ivesy
"The Man Who Knows Everything"
really! small world .. thats awesome.. ( i am partial to libraries lol)
crossy if you google dunkirk new york library you can see a picture of our library
hagd all!
I will take a look, ivesy
That is a beautiful looking library!
Nice to still have your original Carnegie model:)

LO 5?
No clue, maybe Sue knows
ty molly
I need another scan, so I'm scared as well
another scan?
ruby, how are you? What kind of scan?
The results were in arcane French medical language but needing another scan was clear
Ruby, I lit a candle for you. Holding you in my good thoughts.
For my chest pain, now going on since the fall
Thank you, Molly.
Yikes. do the French know how to treat what you have. I've always had problems with German medicine
I think I'll need a thoracic specialist but need a referral
sue are you here?
lowse
Molly do you need to go to the PB
Nope
hello everyone
Hi Nan
I don't think I've ever seen you do that
Oh, I do it occasionally, when necessary
Now, everything is serene
hello cyber
LO 5 anyone?
Nope, no clue here
I knew that Molly:)
I guess you don't read over the chat much, MLF
yes Molly I do why?
lowse
been struggling with an icon change -- uploaded and the photo was huge, so resized and tried to upload again and no go. Tried saving photo to a different location --- again no go. Have run out of ideas now!
Nan, icons have to be 350 x 350, your icon is still huge as I'm viewing it
any clues for some 7s??
cyber I cant get any pic (non photo) to come on here it tells me they are not a known format even though I googled jpg images
mkg le 7 32 is plural of the 5 above it
I have tried different sized icons and nothing seems to work
irfanview is a great photo imaging site and it's free.
you have to download to use it and it takes certain plug ins
I know Molly --- will have to work on it later -- did a photo collage with photochop, but thik I should have resized the photos first instead of after it was done.
*photoshop
Yes, you have to download any program to use it.
Really? I usually find that after you resize you have lower quality, so I do that last. Otherwise any other adjustments you make further reduce the quality.
Yes, when you resize a photo it reduces the quality. But icons here are restricted to a certain size for viewing, otherwise they are just giant, like Nan's is now.
I think the problem is that once I had done the collage, the layers locked and now it won't resize
Well Nan, if you made a collage, you have the individual picture somewhere. That is what needs to be resized before using it as an icon here. One that isn't giant anyway.
that's what I said earlier
Here is a tinyurl link to your picture, resized http://tinyurl.com/pleo3sb
Thanks Molly -- that saved me some work!
And now your icon isn't giant anymore. Yay.
will remember to resize first with the next one! This was the first time I had tried to make a collage with photoshop
Just goes to show how "not private" pictures you post on the internet are. Anyone can copy them and do what they want with them. People who use Facebook should remember that.
not as easy as it sounds when you have to figure out how to circumnavigate all the presets that you don't necessarily want
agreed on the privacy bigt
you can always save the pic, open it in another program like Microsoft Picture Viewer, and resize it from there.
(MPV comes standard on PCs)
*bit
Resizing pictures requires some internet savvy that some people don't have. I have tried to explain it here, but it is easier to show someone in person.
yes - I have it - have just never used it
it's really easy, just open the pic in MPV, choose Picture and then Resize
I try to stay away from Microsoft programs. I find them very "user unfriendly"
I resize crop and edit my photos all the time -- but am usually doing it for an hd video presentation which is a whole different kettle of fish. Also have to downsize for the web pages I write, but I'm not dealing with collages there, nor making icon sized stuff
Resizing for a web page is the same for any web page. You just have to know the dimensions that work on the web page. Here it is 350 x 350
in this case, molly, because of the editing I had done, the pixils were locked
Not sure how pixils get locked. That is why I recommended a different imaging program.
Even if you make a collage with pictures, you should still be able to resize the individual pictures you used.
yes and that is what I was going to do, but as you have done it for me I won't need to now
Thanks again
: D Glad to help. I do this kind of thing as a part time gig so it is pretty easy for me.
I see that by your icon!
is the sh 7 another jewish slang word and if it is, could I have a clue please?
Hello! Clue for the me5?

thanks, i love it when there are reptiles in the grid
lots of animals today
Hi all
hi...
*waves to liz*
Hi Ru - how was your holiday?
lovely.. I had a wonderful time up there and meeting everyone. such great people
That's excellent - they all seem such lovely people on babble - but even better to meet them. And the scenery up there is beautiful too.
we all had a blast together.. lots of wine and lots of food.. but they were troopers :D
pr 5/12 and pr 7/40 - the last pair (if they are a pair) please?
How many did you meet? 4? And how is Jilli these days?
I met bugsaw, Saanich, jilli, and Flosey.. and assorted hangers on (husbands) :D
jilli was great.. although a little peeved with me single handedly destroying her kitchen :D
Like I said, they all seem to be lovely people on babble. It's so good when reality matches up to expectations. I'm sure the hangers on were great people too.
LOL! How did you do that?
she had a ball with all the company though and was a really great sport about the whole thing
I cooked several courses of food and we used a lot of glassware and plates .. I cooked.. and did two loads in the dishwasher.. so I left the rest
I bet you were really spoiled by them all - being a visitor up there!
4.5 hours in a hot kitchen (it was warm up there).. and I was done..
Even though you cooked - I bet you chose lovely wines too.
yes.. the wines were ok
Sounds like fun though and I bet you loved every minute in that kitchen.
they did treat me well.. and they are such warm and nice people all the way around. I think they live in one of the most beautiful places on earth too.. those lucky people.
I've not been to SSI but I've been to Vancouver and Victoria and I also cruised through the Inside Passage and saw some of the beautiful islands.
BC reminds me of NZ - so when you get there, I know you'll love it too.
yes.. they are both very similar I think
Here too in a way - ocean, hills and trees - but warmer climate here.
Fireworks
congrats liz

random question for anybody here (on the theory that ya'll are word-nerds)... what's the origin of the phrase "make a leg"? I know what it means, but my google-fu is failing to hunt up where it came from
make a leg?
yes, make a leg
use it in a sentence?
shake a leg?
ah... he made a leg before her, doffing his hat with a flourish
break a leg?
it means to bow exaggeratedly
never heard of it . . .
but i want to know how it came about, because it's a really weird phrase for what it means
Me neither. But it probably has to do with the bow--maybe they put one foot forward.
hmm. i thought for sure this'd be the place to find the answer. ah well.
looks like it's Shakespeare -- All's Well That Ends Wel
Well
Truly, madam, if God have lent a man any manners, he may easily put it off at court: he that cannot make a leg, put off's cap, kiss his hand and say nothing,
which may be where i first heard it, but i didn't think he invented it, and i've heard it used elsewhere
oh well :-)
"make a leg" = The phrase "make a leg" refers to the act of bowing or obeisance. It is believed that it comes from the act of drawing a leg slightly backward and bowing. This sort of bowing is most common after a theoretical performance or show. It was a form of curtsey that the paid by the performer to the audience when they applauded his or her performance. It implies the sense of being grateful for something. The bow is actually being more out of gratitude then any sense of respect due.
i did read a lot of shakespeare as a kid though, so maybe i just think it was mroe commonly used than it was?
hi all
(saw your question and found that)
hey pini :-)
Hi pini
but i want to know how the phrase arose - all i can find online are definitions, pinikula.

You're not going to throw him back then?
wait, you get the option of giving grandkids back?
Nope... :)
Yeah, jes...it's great...you take 'em for a while and then you give 'em back when you've had enough...now the parents, on the other hand, they don't have an option...
pinikula: child slave trader...
now now, ru...trade secrets, trade secrets!
pinik how many grandchildren do you have?
heh. that's how i treat with nieces and nephews :) get 'em all riled up and then send 'em home
that's the idea, jes!!!
I have three now, MLF
so I take it they don't live far away?
not at all :)
my mom has 4
2 of each
I have 1 granddaughter and now 2 grandsons
awesome pinik
Jes, Shakespeare made up many manay words and phrases--the ORD may give the origen, or there must be some book or treatise on the words etc he n made up. I am familiar with "make a leg--but pictured it in my mind with a leg coming forward and the owner-a man-flourishing his hat
OED
make a leg can also mean a dog humping it :D
not a meaning with which I'm familiar, ruru. looking for the origin (of the exaggerated bow meaning), any ideas?
does anyone have all the ow words?
I was following up on roundbarn's comment :D
I have the ows
who.. whooo.. has the ow words
I have that one ruru

i drive at least one transport leg every weekend - this last weekend I drove 3 -- whew!
LOLOL
3 at once?
no, 3 different transports -- a precious black lab puppy, a 75 Rottie, and an 80 lb pittie :-)
they were all sooo sweet
Hah! are you a conductor, then, Unea? :)
75lb
the rescue-dog railroad...
i hope they were at least close to each other in destinations that is?
indeed :-)
*she can still hear dem a singing.. Swing loooow.. sweet chariot"
conductor, no -- just a driver -- took 23 drivers to transport Lucy the rottie on her 3-day journey
do threy all start from where you live une?
3 day journey ugghh?
I would think it would be Johnny Rottie..like after the sex pistols :D
no, they can start anywhere and end anywhere
ugh? no, it was just so great that that many people are willing to help get a dog in need to safety and love with an approved adopter
une do you give them something to make them sleep for 3 hours?
saint une
what????
how do they get transported for 3 hours or more just in cages or what?
nooo! they often sleep but I like it when they don't and we can share pats and kisses!
in MY car they usually ride tethered, not in cages, unless they
now that is a fun trip lol
unless they're puppies -- prefer that they do their business in a cage, not on my carseat LOL
yes that would be much better wouldn't it?:)lol
this weekend the big rottie girl and hunky pittie boy rode stretched out on the back seat on a couple of quilts :-)
i have 97 left unfortunately and hubby wants to go to bed good night poof
gnite -- later, all :-)
g'night, mlfan
hello everyone
