Little slow there, ru ..
yeah.. stuck on my last word
hewwo
hewwwwooo melon
nice to see you
23 hrs 50 minutes till the next one...
ruru, it is embarrassing how much you show me up. I come in 10 minutes late, all set to ask, Has ruru finished yet? just to be cheeky, AND YOU HAVE!!!!!
i'm not trying to embarrass anyone :D
I was stuck for three minutes on my last word
thanks. I'd been swamped lately. Worked full time for six weeks, teaching physical science to a prety recalcitrant bunch,
wow..
i know. It is just me
get over yourself bugs :D
it really doesn't matter when one finishes .. as long as they finish.. doesn't it?
I usually don't work more than four days a week. That and planning a trip to Europe. My first, and the first time I've ever been away from home for more than two weeks.
Apparently, that is all I can do.
phantom—sofa
Poor melon. I could never last working six weeks straight.
Europe sounds good.. Doren is leaving for paris this weekend.. I offered to tote her bags and do my Morgan Freeman impersonations
Yeah, poor me. At least my work was appreciated, and I liked having the same colleagues for six weeks. After finals I got to go drinking with the science dept, at the grown-up table and everything!
The trip is Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Regensburg,Paris, then three nights in Iceland. Stays in NYC on each end.
20 to go
sounds like a great trip.
I think it will be. Airbnb-ing it for NYC, Iceland Amsterdam, Berlin, and Paris. Hotels in Prague and Vienna, and staying with a friend from my music school days who moved to Regensburg and plays with the orchestra there.
In Paris I have a suite on the 5th floor of an elevator bldg (at my age you learn to look for elevators!) with a terrace off my room.
Aha! I found Ray Bolger in the grid!
sounds lovely melon -- loved Regensburg -- the medieval part of the city anyway
Regensburg was spared bombing in WWII, so I hear it is one of the most intact Medieval sites in Germany.
NBT NBS
Prague is lovely .. Well, it was 20 years ago ..
yes it is -- lots of artisan's shops and a magnificent Christmas store if you are into collecting ornaments from each place you visit
Mind you that is true of most of the tourist places in Germany
Not buying much stuff as I'm doing this with one carry-on piece of luggage and a shoulder bag. I have become, amongst other things, an expert on travel underwear.
In Vienna you will see shops selling sweets in tins with Mozart on them. Look for the ones that contain spice cookies coated in
chocolate -- delicious!
I'm bringing a sketchbook.
Oh, and I'll be in Paris for Bastille Day. This only hit me a few days ago.
I'll be sure to bring red and blue colored pencils!
A friend told me you get a great view from Montmartre of the fireworks and the light show at the Eiffel Tower.
fw - off to bed, goodnight all
I'm staying in La Marais, which is centrally located.
goodnight, flosey!
Le Marais.
yes, nan, I am looking forward to pastry in Vienna! And stinky cheeses in France.
Have a gret trip, melon. ENjoy it all. (and the next trip, plan to visit Tel Aviv)
Le Marais is a great area -- oldest arcade mall in the city
greAt trip
Tel Aviv, yes!
My hotel in Prague is near the Altneueshul and the Sephardic Synangogue, as well as Kafka's home. I will be visitng a lot of Jewish and musical sites in the trip.
also in Vienna - be sure to stop at a sidewalk cafe and have a hot chocolate -- their version of hot chocolate is melted chocolate served a a soup bowl
Oh, yes, nan! I've had a similar hot chocolate (NOT coca!) at Café Sabarsky in the Neue Gallerie in NYC.
and have it "mitt schlag "-- with whipped cream. Of course!
haven't been to Prague -- that's on the table for this fall
Cool. How often have you been to Europe, nan?
pays to guess at rhyming words in this grid.
lost count - 5 or 6 times
Wow.
I'm half Italian, yet missing Italy. My sibs and I would like to go together sometime soon. My dad's family is from Basilicata province, not exactly a destination for inexperienced traveler.
again - that is where we are headed this September
"mitt schlag"—we had a conductor who would ask for that when he wanted, well, schmaltz (;
I am traveling alone. I have no idea where I got the nerve to do this. . .
only part of Italy we've been to is the Cinque Terra and Florence
I do have friend who are very experienced travelers; one friend's husband has been my "travel sherpa", advising me re: neighborhoods, trains, etc.
how long will you be in Paris?
six nights.
I collect perfume, so stops at some perfumers are in order: Etat Libre d'Orange, Sege Lutens, and Guerlain at the very least.
SLdO and SL are very close by.
I'm told Place des Vosges is gorgeous, as are the Tuilleries.
if you are interested in art galleries and museums you might want to look at the Passe Musee -- google it and take a look at what it offers. If you think you will at least break even with it -- it is well worth it because you avoid line ups for tickets that way
Pardonez mon spelling!
I got a pass that includes museums plus metro fares for 5 days (:
Not sure when you are leaving, but you need to allow enough time to order it and have it mailed to you -- unless you can pick it up somewhere when you get there. Most of the major cities have a pass of some sort, some including transportation and some not -- for a stay of 3 days or more, we usually find them to be worthwhile
Also have Berlin pass and purchase an Amsterdam pass at the airport when I arrive. I want to ride a bike in Amsterdam, as well as take a barge trip. In Paris I have one little wish—to find a piano and play some Debussy!
Ordered and to be Fed-Exed to me.
What I learned almost too late was that I had to purchase my train tickets for some destinations that are "reservations only" and that they had to be mailed to me, as in not printed at home!
For some reason I procrastinated on the rail think, even though I had purchased a Eurail pass weeks ago. A quick phone call and all is in order. Sometimes human contact is still better than trying to do it all myself on the web.
the bullet trains?
I think with the Eurail pass, you can make a reservation 48 hours in advance
Well the TGV and the Thalys to Paris. Since I knew my dates, I just reserved all my trains.
I'd go on line and check that, though
*!* ta da *!*
If I want to take short hop day trips, I can use the pass without making reservations at all. High-speed, and night trains require reservations.
Oh, the tickets are in my hand! It's all nailed down at last.
And I managed to bring in 32 days overseas plus NYC, air, rail, and accommodations for under 5 grand.
Eek, looked at the clock. I have a 9 am dental appt—and this messy house. Must hit the hay so I can hit the ground running this morning. Pleasant chatting, nan! Thanks for helpful hints! 'Night!
ps I'm assuming the ta da is for finishing. wtg (:
My best advice for Paris is to take a copy of the Eyewitness Guide to Paris with you -- great descriptions of all the sights with opening days, hours and ticket info - also some wonderful self-guided walking tours of some of the arrondissemants
thanks! Can I get it as an e-book?
Love your snuggle bug!
I don't think so -- but you will find it in most book stores and it is not too large -- also has a great map of paris in it.
ty -- the last one, I hope. I've made 9 of them now and that is enough!
Thanks. Now I must to bed! XXXOOO [poof]
off to bed -- have a great trip Melon -- you are visiting some wonderful places.

Now it is time for Crossy,s tidbit of the day!! This is some very interesting archival footage of a camper made specifically for towing with a old style V.W Beetle. I can see that the weight of the thing is pushing the old bugs suspension to to the limit but it is very interesting to say the least. http://tinyurl.com/onnkkgx
Hey crossy
I saw a picture of a newer idea of that, I think it was with a smart car :)
Howdy, Sukee:)
I have a question for you. I don't know if you are on GoodReads or not. But I read a review, of a book I hated and someone said there is only room on the site for good reviews to support the authors. I completely disagree, how do you say?

sometimes asking for clues is the only way I take in new words :-)
i know, some of the words in these grids are pretty crazy
i think some people's vocabs are off the charts! get the grids done in rapid fire!
how about so 5/18?
so + last three letters of father synonym
ah...thanks! should have tried that!
yw :)
It seems there needs to be super easy grids to make some people happy
how snarky
No, not snarky. Some people just like the small, easier grids.
'some of us are newer to this game and trying to get better; it's nice to succeed once in a while
Indeed
faw n
oops sorry
I just enjoy each grid as it comes. I not no belittle anyone for enjoying a particular size of grid, although my favorite size for them falls in the 150-250 range;)
do not*
I am glad you are enjoying the grid, Therealblah, and if anyone needs a clue, just ask. Do not feel that just because it is a 45 grid that you or anyone else should have more experienced babbler poke fun at you for doing so. Crap like that gets annoying real fast.
I did not no belittle anyone for enjoying a particular size of grid. All I said was super easy grids make some people happy.
Sorry, it came off as real 'snarky"
"It seems there needs to be super easy grids to make some people happy" and "I can't believe I'm cluing for a 45 word grid" gives that perception.
Okay, I'll leave it all up to you now. Snarky...not meant to be but I kind of get where that came from.
I get you, but it does come off like that. If people enjoy small grids, just let them, eh?
room for everyone in here:)
... wish i could send some of this rain to the west coast... been raining here since last Sunday:)
thanks crosshair :-)
(for earlier comments...we don't need the rain here either!)
omg... Stop the world and let me off. Pornhub Inc. Is trying to crowdfund 3.4 million dollars to become the first to make a porno in space...
The west is so dry. My brother is on mandatory water restrictions and they are ordered to let everything in the front and back lawn die off.
during the month of may here it rained something like 28 days and we went from severe drought to severe (and deadly) flooding
Seems to be no happy medium. it is one extreme or the other, although we are not flooding here and the hills and forests are rich and vibrant.
trees are doing so well, we had one old grouch on the second floor bitch to the building owners that they should cut down this beautiful maple tree we have outside our windows because it obstructs her view of the mountain!
The building owners are smart people, and the tree will remain;)
yay! hate it when people cut down beautiful healthy trees for frivolous reasons
I read a real estate paper once where they actually add value to a piece of property depending on tree number, size, and variety.
Especially when dealing with inter- city property
yes I've heard that too. Nice landscaping can cost many $$$ to put in.
not to mention the increase in your cooling bill when you take down a shade tree
fawn
sorry!
My brother had to deal with some "city beautification council" when he moved to Henderson Nevada. They forced him to speck 6 thousand dollars doing up the front and back lawns with landscaping suitable to the environment there, Now, 4 years later, he has to let it live or die as the drought dictates.
wow that hurts
spend*
Well, he chose to live in a desert. Vegas only exists because of the water man adds to it. Nature is patient.
true! And she always wins.
waud
an 5/12?
form of mammals, minus 2 consonants
oh, duh!
lol, i was hoping that hint was not too obscure
are you done? I am working on last word...
stuck at 2 left, wa4 and fa4. clues?
what are you looking for?
missing the first wa4 myself..fa +opp of yes
oops which fa4?
thanks, that was it...thought i had tried every combo
Famaybe
Damn it
thx ruru, got it. wa4?
fw without listing, thanks for clues
Wa + dead princess
tyvm! my first fireworks! :)
Dead princess...LOL...LOL...
(If I clued that it would be offensive)
I consider myself to have achieved a moral victory if I get half the words. I have done that, and I'm leaving now. But I don't get the dead princess clue, not even a little bit. I will probably awake at 3 am and say "Oh, that's it!" Happy babbling all!
Hello. I need two: M for 6 and Ti for 6.
