It's delightful here. All the "negative" stuff has moved to another "social media" forum. Whee!
Sorry to hear about the negative past. I don't read the chat often, but I remember people being really interesting and supportive here.
Most of the time, that is the way it is. Which is why this place works.
I haven't finished a grid in a long time. Need nine more.

73 degrees F and you're roasting?
that's sweater weather in California
lol
was 106 F here last week
Now it is time for Crossy's quote of the day!!... “'I am' is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that 'I do' is the longest sentence?â€--George Carlin
Oh Ru, you know what they say, to each their own. LOL! LOL! LOL!
that's a good quote Crossy
*glad we don't have humidity like the wrong coast
I'm glad I didn't correct Dose's spelling. Wouldn't want any Spelling Nazi comments to disrupt the positive vibes.
106.. my God.. So, you just lay stuff out on the picnic table to cook it?:)
Why bother jumping on a typo? We all know what it is supposed to be. Babblers should be able to interpret. heck, after reading some of my stuff, babblers should be able to decipher anything!
given that I've done a zillion typos lately..
Well like I said, I wasn't the one who corrected his spelling. Peace and love to all!!!
but I'm not an editor.. I do try to correct stuff before I post it. I think a lot of people are in a hurry to get a comment in before the chat moves on.. that'd be my guess.
I am sure you are correct, ru.
You are definitely correct Ru. And no one has any problem with you, sir.
nothing worse than polishing a reply to something to a high gloss, only to find out that 45 posts have been added in the interim;(
I wish that were true molly .... but it's not
I'm an editor. ;)
well crossy .. some players just post jibberish that is impossible to figure out
Funny enough i do editing as well, but i do not get paid to make sure a real-time rolling chat is perfect;)
However, to quote one of my editor friends, "You have to pay me to care about your grammar." :D
just go with the flow:)
snap
good line red
I have so much work to do today and I'm stalling
I thought so. Then again, her business cards also read "Writer Editor Smart Ass"
What do you edit Red?
She's basically my hero.
Manuscripts, marketing, web content...at this point, almost anything people will pay me to edit.
A good copy editor is one that makes me squeal in pain and anguish;)
hello friends. here to find my last 7, hopefully
Howdy, Trif
howdy
Ah, that's cool Red. We have had some misunderstandings about people's writing credentials here. I'm always interested in how people use their good writing skills to make a living.
if you do not walk away totally pissed off from your meeting with your copy editor, he or she is not doing a good job:)
Ha! Good line crossy.
I will flog myself for you later molly.
Yeah, I've been told I could use some work on my bedside manner.
i want to be afraid to bring my manuscript to you:)
<-- I always need work on my bedside manners
I'm highly subsidized by my lucrative career working 8-10 hours a week at a used bookstore for $8/hr.
Ohh; do not spend it all in one place;)
Been trying to make a living on full time freelance work over the past year, but I just haven't gotten the work in that I need. I've actually been applying for office positions again...and my soul dies a little with each submission.
Writing is just like farming in that you just keep going until the money runs out;)
"Runs out" implies there was any money from the start.
I also listen to rough drafts of audio books and make notes on things to fix. That's what I have this weekend.
Red, I know several people who do freelance writing work. And from what they say "full time freelance writing work" is a myth. I wish you well.
Right. "Full time" in that it is a sustainable living. I do actually know people who do that.
5 left. finally listed at 7....
*waits for Trif to ask for the PR 5 clue
Writing is almost like a bad drug habit; your sleep goes to hell, you are up and down at all hours of the day or night, you get a distorted sense of reality, people start shying away fro you because you do odd things to support your habit, and submissions to publishing houses are more like interventions.
hahaha - that is the one I am on now! please hold
Hiyas, kiddos!
I really like editing because I know I only have so many stories to tell, but in editing I can help tell other people's stories too.
good way to look at it:)
good morning ms judi
what was the result of the drunk yesterday
Ah. The boss sent him home. Beyond that, no information.
found it ruru! my monkeys, gotta love em
Editing can be a lucrative career if you find the right open door. There are a lot of painfully bad writers out there.
Plus, I've been editing for so long, I've become a horrible writer in that it's hard to separate the two enough to just write and go with the flow before looking back and fixing.
I hope he had someone drive him home
---- I can think of an AWFUL writer who made an absolute fortune....
I don't think so, Ru. *shudder*
I think I'd be a good writer.. except my grammar and sentence structures are awful
hint: the crap she churned out brought her 50 shades of green, as it turned out...'
Definitely, Molly. Especially with the need for online content. People tend to be a bit sticker shocked...even when I significantly lower rates. It's a tricky business, rate-setting.
you make it sound like hookers red :D

I agree Trif. Some crap writers somehow make it to the top. It's kind of sickening.
Well, I do often feel like I'm pimping myself out. In fact, I use the reference quite a bit.
fireworks! woot woot
well.. now that Trif is done with her 7 .. I can get on with my day
Especially when bidding for jobs on sites like Elance and Guru. If I can't sell myself, I can't expect people to hire me to write/edit their sales.
haha ruru
way to be supportive!
:D
Peace and love to all. We are a positive, hap-happy group here now. (((((Group hug)))))))
Molly, happens in every field, I think. Look at music. Or, I suppose, listen. (assail your ears)
A clam friendly chat bugs you, Molly?
calm
Personally, I like that we are friendly to our clam brethren
if the world is your oyster crossy
all love the clams!
I was wondering how clams got into the equation. Clammy?
Clam bake!

crossy was just flexing his mussels
ba dum bum

If you don't like clams, you can have abalone sandwich.
I got nuthin' on that.
I hate to eat abalone - I get so lonely

We are settling in -- it's been 13 months since we got back, but this summer is the first time I have the energy to start really thinking about putting things away (and the first time I have the funds to get the materials for putting things away -- needed shelves!). The garden is coming back to life, too. It's a comfortable house. Bugsaw just left from a short visit. Hope to get the guest room even nicer soon. When are you dropping by? ;-)
Hello harpjane! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
Congratulations ha4/5jane on your fireworks! Good for U!
Hello stidmama! How are you doing today?Welcome to grid
Congratulations cosdem on your fireworks!Hooray for you!
hey min!
Hello there stidmama! What would you say if a student told you you were not his boss?A student said that to me on Fri.
Howdy, stidmama, Min. Nice to see you both today:))
hey cross!
:))
Hello crosshair! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
hey all s'up?
I would say; " no, I am not your boss, but what you learn from me here today can make the difference between you getting a good job or you super-sizing someones fries for the rest of your life."
Howdy, carlee:)
Min -- I would agree with the middle school student. That student's parental figures are the boss, and I work for them. They are paying me to teach, and they support the student financially so that student has the ability to learn.
Hello carleekat! How are you doing today?Welcome to grid
Good answer crosshair! I like that one!
hi ya crossy minver and stiddy *tosses choclits*
mmm... cholits...
I would say that it is up to the student whether they want to do what THEIR boss says. And it is.
lol, I just typoed a typo!
YAY *backflip double cartwheel*
we always typo choclits!
I chose to ignore the comment. I was not going to get into it with him in front of 24 other kids. However, I did speak to him privately about his attitude&behavior. He is a PITA
easy there stiddy... *round off back handspring*
The truth is that a middle school student who is trapped in summer school usually has bigger fish to fry than lessons. They will have self-esteem issues and consider themselves not only not capable of learning, but not worthy of learning. Offering choice and acknowledging the power they have to NOT do the work is generally one step toward mending their broken hearts.
hello Babblers. Not often I drop by to chat altho I never miss a day without babble! What is new in here?
Hello swmbo! How are you doing today? Welcome to chog.
Well said, stidmama
exactly stiddy!!!
Howdy, swmbo:)
hi swmbo
Power struggles don't work with these kids, but being clear about expectations and putting it back on their shoulders (I am paid to teach and you are here to learn. Whether you take advantage of it is up to you. If you want to learn, I can help you get there. If you choose not to learn, then I will honor your choice and give you the grade you have earned.)
SWMBO! (((((((hugs)))))))
Empathy for the teachers. I couldn't do what you do, not pateint enough
I get just a tiniest taste of it as a teachers helper. You guys are all heroes, I swear!
love my students to bits!!!!
Thanks for the nice welcome back!
****LOVE my babble-buds****
it shows :)
My beloved has two more credits left to graduate, and since my Vulnerable sector set is good till mid-march 2016, i think I will go back had help with the two college English classes:)
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. That is what happened to me in here LOL
cert*
just got a new PRC vulnerable sector last week... gotta have it for the kiddoes I work with
ty, carlee for the fr 5/20
Yup. Took almost two months to get mine:(
2 MONTHS? takes 2 weeks here
and ur welcome
They bounced it back on me and my prints had to be sent off to the R.C.M.P:))
?? vulnerable sector?
translate for the non-maple-leafs?
rcmp check mine on mine... is all in one... rcmp, opp, and local I think ( I would have to look but i know RCMP is signed off on mine)
kids you come into contact who have had.. medical/ abuse/ etc
I am now signed off on O.P.P and R.C.M.P:)
since I work with what you all down there call Native Americans/Native Indians... loads of issues
ah, we don't have specific credentials for that
are you talking criminal records check?
Comes in handy. I had a little temp work at the hospital and even though my V.S was for the school, because it was current they said o.k
isnot a credential..is a security waiver... we have to renew annually that we do not have criinal record, sex offender, etc
yeap PRC Police Record Check ( Or CPIC - I have both bc of my work in criminal law)
Even our cab companies now require a current V.S cert.
we do background checks that are good for two years that says we aren't bad people ;-)
ooh! down to 8!
we also require them in health care
yaa for stidmama!
canadian police information centre
*primping my pompoms*
yes you do swmbo :)
* coughing at the dust* been a while since I brought out the pompoms stiddy
I must be down to babblets only:(
6 now, all 4s and 5s
most of them were normal words crossy
what is your ideally sized Babble grid? I don't like them this small, but I also don't like the huge ones. For me, 150 words is about right.
most--the key word there is most;)
I like them 150-250 that way they are big enough not to be a babble-filled nightmare, but small enough not to be a typing endurance contest with every word ending known.
I like these small ones because they are usually beasts in their own way..I hate the huge ones. mind this was the first grid I have finished in over 2 years
yes crossy... I know... feed your monkeys you will find them
babblet*
I think 120-150 is good. On school nights I can get halfway without trouble if I have time. On weekends I can finish a grid that size. These small grids are usually trickier but sucker me in because I keep thinking I can finish the whole grid
I am feeding my monkeys bacon sarnies as we speak...
need to feed them cholit covered frozen bananas coatedin chopped nuts there crossy
bacon I understand. Sarnie?
lol
sandwich
sandwich stiddy
I agree Stid, I get sucklered by the little opnes too.

theother one the deadline for submission was extended so wont be sent to the referee until september
I had a bit of worked bounced back to me because I forgot to spell it as "color" instead of "colour"
I must switch out the dictionaries in word to cater to the customer:(
work*
Yaa for carleee!
yeesh... thankfully I donthave that issue as both publications ( a linguistic journal and the alternative comic essay book ) are both cdn
This is a U.K company:)

Hi jaxx7! How are you doing today?Welcome to the chog.
ow it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!! I wish to post something today about "outernet". Yup. that's right, the outernet. There is a device called "Lantern" that is set to ship next month that sound very interesting and you can watch this clip to get an idea of what it is all about. I need to do more research on it , but i wanted to share it with you just the same:) http://tinyurl.com/nggpalz
Now*
Bit of a note on it: it would be suitable for perhaps 200 MB/day as it is coming directly from two satellite feeds, but that is more than enough for research or to contact a loved one when your phone contract is dead or the cell net is down:)
another link with more details.. http://tinyurl.com/q74zmtn
lol crossy have you seen genesys yet?
Hi, Minver. I have been away for a moment tracing my family tree, a passion of mine.
No, carlee, i have not.
My family tree is a warped and twisted thing:)
I have found 10,000+ people on mine. Currently I am searching in Lancashire in 1660 .
Looked up genesys, still unclear as to what it is exactly. Though I can see that unlike lantern, it is not free.
the web site for it is as clear as mud lol
It has gone midnight here so I am off to my bed. Night all and take care.
tc jaxx
Goodnight jaxx7!I'll see ya the next time I see you he4/5.

I like to play off the chat and tease everyone
Yep, keeps me on my toes.
*buys feather a ballerina outfit for this grid*
i do NOT do tutus. just ask my running buddies who try to get me into one for certain fun 5Ks.
that's fine.. tutus are over-rated
I'd pay dearly for a photo of that feather :D

Now that it's summer, I got a little bit more time to play.
i've decided to try to come back more often over the summer. can't say i'll stay once school starts up again though.
