Every time I watch Shakespeare In Love I am reminded of how easy writers have it these days. No inkwells, scratch pens and ink stained fingers.

Now it is time for Crossy's tidbit of the day!! This tidbit is for those who you who are rabid at the thought of reading Harper Lee's "new" book. It is not a bad book, but as this article states, you should be forewarned that Watchman is, in reality a reject draft of Mockingbird. I am sure it will still be an interesting read, but do not expect a shiny, new, flawless novel. http://tinyurl.com/p8ldhnm

aside from being great for the ego - will these publications get anything else for you?
they will make it esier to be accepted in for my PhD.. and yes... they will help open doors
carlee, you have come a long way in the past few yearsA!
excellent !
both are tangentially related to my thesis... and my area of focus also involves Pop Culture.. the referreed paper is more Pop culture than I am going to... so gives me some street credibility
I was just thinking the same thing
it has been a long long road Peri...
how are your kids, carlee?

anyone watch the espy's last night
There is so much that people don't know here. I'm surprised Gore flies since he is American.
I purposely avoided the ESPY awards due to the Caitlin Jenner crap.
it was a really interesting speech he/she made. Caitlin did a really nice job to be honest. I was impressed. Wasn't really the right venue to speak about this issue.. (most of the athletes tuned out) but I found it interesting
I agree that it wasn't the right venue to speak on the issue. However, the ESPY people could have given this award off screen. I think they used this as a publicity stunt.
yeah.. it kind of looked like that to me too.
and then I opened up the paper today to read about a woman who rear ended a food truck.. not because of texting but she was using a vibrator
in her mini cooper
OMG, really, ruru?

Ah, I have police officer friends and this kind of thing is not as uncommon as you might think...sadly

My water butt is empty so could do with a good downpour overnight to refill it.
Is this a hug-in anyone can join?
hey all ((zoomkatejaxxlurkersall))
water BUTT???? *giggle*
assuming it's a barrel of some sort?
Also it might stop these bloody roadworkers from making a noise again.
I had to read that twice, zoom. My eyes are tired.
It is indeed, Stidmama..LOL
absolutely {{{jaxx stiddie}}}
*grin*
((trader kate))
waterbum... nope
I do not fancy any enemas thanks!
I learn so much about language variants just by being here. :-D
how are you zoom? other than dry?
I'll swap your road works for our seagulls.
I am well thanks for asking, Stidmama.I hope you too are well?
I am doing tolerably well, thanks zoom. Enjoying my garden a bit more and avoiding housework in equal proportion.
The seagulls around here are very thoughtful,Jaxx. They seem to sleep at night here.Thank goodness.
I always avoid housework if I can.
Pfft housework can always wait, Stidmama. What a few more bits of dust on top of each other.
hydroass... nope :(
LOL
indeed! I like to think of it as a surface protector for my fine furniture.
down with housework!
LOL Kate!
LMAO Stiddie :D
well, as Bugsaw would attest were she here, the house has just enough space to sit and visit and a lot of clutter (from finally starting to sort through boxes since we moved back). It has a ways to go...
I can't remember if I told you the saga of our seagulls. The local housing association decided to do some repairs and knocked all the seagull nests off. the seagulls kept on coming back, one pair 5 times. It was decided to remove the chimneys and some of the birds took the hint. One pair remained. The workmen left, the gulls returned and have paid every one back by making a racket for 24 hours a day.
When I got burgled in 95 i had not dusted for a while and the burglars stole around 300 CDs.When the insurers came round to see how much things would cost to replace.they said they can see i had that amount of CDS by the dust mark around where the CDs were..lol
oh, those gulls! They are smart ... and vindictive! We have smart ones here, too -- my dad used to feed them at a certain time. They started lining up ten minutes early every day waiting! So he stopped. :-)
se 5/12 please... just a hint should do it?
yep. "dust is your friend" is my motto
part of a flower
SE + three letter word for a friend or ole chum.
flower part?
I was too sl4
so... DUST ia a valuable asset - as zooz will attest :D
It is the spiders that are our friends. They live inside and leave cobwebs.
usually beneath the petals
ty for the se 5 and 7 zooz stiddie and jaxx!
we have something in common then jaxx... to live in Fort Erie one must be "one with the spider" ;)
Yes I do remember you saying, Jaxx.
I keep shooing the spiders out. The garden friends are coming indoors (I think they figured out it's cooler inside) and there isn't enough food for them here. So... I escort at least two out daily.
Fort Erie? On Lake Erie?
I love spiders...As long as they are very very very very tiny :-)
Ever walked into a spiders web? Most annoying.
that's right stiddie... just hop over the lake and there's scrabbs...
I have an ancestor who had a barge on the Erie canal -- he was out of Kinderhook, NY
I did that tonight when I got home zooz! Industrious little blighters...
LOL How cool it would be to go back there. I just looked up the park site online. Had no idea there had been a huge battle there in 1812
not far away stiddie...
especially annoying for the spiders
I watched a pair mating the other day. They spun around and all 16 legs were waving about. They finished and the much smaller male struggled to the side whereupon the female snapped the thread he was hanging from and he plunged to the floor. I found him later dead.
you're too big for them to eat zooz
I adore jumping spiders... let them stay anywhere they like -- unless it's where I need to be cooking.
Teehee yes quite so, Ruru!
Hey ruru! ((hugs))
yes... 1812-14 we saw a lot of action all around here.. queenston, niagara falls, niagara on the lake...
hi stid
sounds like my ex wife jaxx ;D
LOL
LOL too
When my son was alive he kept tarantulas. At one time he had over 300 with which he shared his bedroom.
ugh
oh my -- I like spiders, but that is a bit much...
Good grief. That would be my worst nightare!
Nightmare*
But we do anything for our kids, don't we?
I didn't mind the tarantulas but I hated the 12 inch long centipede he had. Awful thing and there was no antivenine for its bite
oh oh oh.... *runs screaming from chog*
i love my kids, but there are limits...
We had a few escape which enlivened our existence
((Stidmama)) Teehee!
clue for so 8
thanks zoom *climbs on zooms shoulders, shrieking*
You thought the snake episode was exciting... I would NOT be okay with a huge centipede, venomous or otherwise!
come back stiddie! they are only virtual creepy crawlies here!
hey matches
so 8 community
With an ** gore on the end :-)
That's what i did when I put my hand on one that had taken up residence in our landing curtains.
it's too quick after the snake, kate. *shudder*
ty ruru and zoo got it
Well it is nearly 1AM here.I had better try and get some sleep.Even with the roadwork noise going on.
oh jaxx! I am amazed you are still standing! *admires fortitude of babble friend*
he had one of those too.
Happy babbling everyone!
hm. gore community.
When he died we gave them away to local zoos. The centipede died, thank goodness.
niters zooz, hope you sleep okay - tell the road worklers to knock off for tea until you fall asleep ;)
sweet dreams, zoom. Hope your butt gets filled. *wink*
Bye, zoom. take care.
I am sorry he died, jaxx. Glad you were able to give his critters to people who could enjoy them like he did.
finally got that so 8. almost halfway!
He kept them for protection as he was a victim of cannabis psychosis and the whole world was after him, according to Tim
Ah, makes more sense.
ro 6/21 please? after the plant's anchor...
Mind you, he was a perfectionist and one zoo looked at his immaculate records and said they had never seen one so detailed.
still... who NEEDS 300 TARANTULAS?????
he grew the things from spiderlings and swapped males with keepers with females for a share of the offspring
ro 6...man's name...
There is something to be said for great record-keeping. I wish I were a little more inclined toward journaling, myself.
hey penquis!
I dare say he didn't but one female tunneling spider produced 150 young.
hi stid...
ty pen, looking
*thinking that's a lot of tunnels...*
help with sp5/20 pls
like dukes of hazard, kate
hey peri! ((hugs))
sp 5....to talk...
I think you want the talk word, peri
I did and ty stiddy. FW
YAY peri!!!
ty pen
bye for now
yw....congrats!
oooh. I am under 100. Should go back to practicing, I think. The director of the orchestra gave us a new piece last night. Which would be okay, but I didn't quite master a Ralph Vaughn Williams from a couple weeks ago.
In my defense, I was anticipating another percussionist for the part he wanted on the Vaughn Williams, and had practiced a different part... But there is progress! :-D
congrats peri! still no luck on the man's name though..
Only one tunnel with a chamber at the end for the young. She used to feed them with the crickets Tim fed her. The crickets were annoying as they regularly escaped and you went upstairs with a retinue of insects.
Have really enjoyed visiting. (((jaxx))) I have a friend with a young son whose menagerie is quite something also, there are crickets in their home, too. And SO many rodents of various types. Always exciting when a reptile escapes and the rodents are out. :-)
free entertainment ;)
Until the yellow baboon spider got out!
That was not funny, believe me.
Vaughan. I really have trouble typing that name. um... yellow baboon? *runs to look it up*
wow. that is actually a pretty spider (in pictures)
We had a boy in my class at school called Vaughan Williams.
It is pretty but not when it is logged behind the pedestal of the washbasin and you can't get at it and it's Christmas Eve. They put it in the bath to put it in its tank as they sid it couldn't climb out of the bath because the sides were slippery. the only problem was no-one had told the spider.
His parents must have loved music!
lodged even
spiders are tricky... and surprisingly speedy
He went to Cambridge on a music scholarship so he lived up to his namesake
:-D prescient parents!
They can jump too and tarantulas use their legs to spray hairs at you from their bodies. Woe betide if you get them in your eyes.
I must admit I have welcomed a quiet retirement.
LOL I bet! *thinking wistfully of own retirement 30 years away*
Don't wish your life away, stid. It goes quickly enough believe me.
I am now going to my bed. thanks for the conversation and all the memories.
good night jaxx :)
hello,babblers.
Hi TO!
hi kate
I was missing words yesterday... I remembered you were having the same problem. Did you figure out what happened?
a bug in the program.
oh. so it could happen again?
happens every day
I thought it might have had something to do with me starting at home and doing a bit on a different computer at the library... .. so I tried not doing any while away today - still missed a few words that I know I already entered. Now that I know this, I will look more carefully for words I thought I had...

funeral song and lament for the dead? sounds like abba to me
Hold on tight to your dreams

Hi, everyone! :)

Hi JB :)
actually abba's songs are upbeat.. it's just that one wants to kill themselves after they listen to an album
TK! ruru! dan! Champ! Harp! Everyone else!
HI jb
i like abba
:)
ruru, what's your artist / genre preference for upbeat music, then?
gee.. let me think about that
Most reggae music is upbeat.. like that.
I like ABBA too, I admit it! Proudly!
.. but then again, i still like new wave
yech1
that was to abba
I think we should have an Abba/Stindberg festival. Get all the irritating Scandinavian habits out of the way in one weekend. Then get on with your life.
Strinberg
LOL Harp
True confession, I can listen and enjoy just about any genre from classical to new wave, with a few exceptions.
me too, jb
ROFL....JB
i mean harp
there, there, ruru, it's okay. We accept that you feel that way!
<----can't stand rap
No rap crap! I'm with ya, Kate.

LOL, TK, about harp. Yup, rap is just too angry for me.

Yeah, Kate, you don't want the F and U letters imprinted on your forehead!
I downloaded the soundtrack, actually -- was GREAT for end of the year when they were coming in from recess exhausted. Pumped them back up in a jiffy.
Now that you asked, stid, I just yawned big time!
Why ever not??? I know a few that need telling off
I won't keep you -- but thanks to you and kate down to 65 already!

Thanks for the help JB -- hope to see you again soon! ((hugs)) heading for supper now. *poof*
Aww, I hope you feel better. Having to sit on ice is not fun, nope, not ever, even on these sweltering east coast summer days. I hope you mean making jam, not dancing jam!
GN, stidd, sys, {{hugs back}} heading out! *poof*
