Hi and hugs, Sprite
hiya Liz :) *hugs* for you both. How are you doing?
We're fine thanks - ridiculously busy with social stuff, which is fun but exhausting. Nothing special but it's still good. How are you?
sounds good! I am fine. Still losing weight and getting thinner, which is very rewarding.
That's brilliant. How are you doing with the food now?
most cold foods are ok now. Dinner is still an issue. Often with 4 or 5 bites I 'block up', can't eat another bite and feel rather nauseated.
Is that normal?
we were with 4 on the hospital ward. One can eat and drink everything. One cannot manage drinking. One cannot manage warm food, but cold and drinking is ok (me). And one has trouble with warm and cold food, but can drink.
I guess it all takes time. It's such a huge change for your body to adjust to.
But it's great that the weight loss is so effective.
yes it is a complete rerouting in the body. I never expected it to go without any trouble, so I am not disappointed or worried. I just accept it as it is and have faith it will get better in time.
{{hugs}} and good morning dear sprite. {{hugs}} lizgirl. how are you both today?
I haven't chatted to you or Rose for ages. How is Rose?
And there she is!!!! LOL! Hi and hugs Rose.
hiya rose :) *hugs* Another ok night for you?
yes honey. and despite being busy today, not a lot of cramping or spasms.
that is a good thing. And Saturday is near.
I am fine, darling.
Something special on Saturday?
didn't do the bathroom although the bucket of cleaners and weapons of mass destruction is sitting in there waiting. but i did get the last of the clean wash fold etc .
I am glad you are pacing yourself, rose. Well done.
liz, going in for denervation and next magnesium infusion.
Cutting or disabling a nerve?
oh I love the 8!
I have the 8 but not the 7 :(
lol, it's a good one isn't it?
me neither so far.
Pretty stuck with 32 left.
am only at halfway
i love the 7. it's such a nice word full of vowels
I did about 20 before I went to the gym.
Thanks Rose - don't know why but that did it!
I keep seeing heretic and hermetic
wow!! good for you liz
Just added an extra vowel to the 6 :)
morning all... hey liz have you got your package yet?
Ah! A medical word.
Yes Ro - it arrived on Monday - so quick. Pool's not warm enough yet to try it out.
*trying all 6s she found so far*
yes liz. that's what makes it so easy. if you have the 6, always look for that 7
hiya ro :)
I'll try and remember that one, Rose.
oh I forgot to tell you... my girl found an address to stay in england and she is going in the fall holidays.
g'day rolin
yay for Caya. i hope she has a wonderful time.
That's brilliant, Sprite. Really happy for her. Hope she has a great time.
thanks, so do I.
friends of ours stayed in a convent when they were in london. they said it was brilliant.
oh I believe it. But she really wanted to stay in a family and participate in normal everyday life. So I am glad we found a good address. Had hoped babble would render one, but alas.
yay for Rob's canoe friends
Which part of England?
near Bristol
Lovely part of the country.
she will help out with the kids and in the shop. And the last day and night she will spend at a colleague's of the shop owner, because the family will leave on vacation then.
She should get loads of practice with her English like that. I'm so glad it all worked out.
me too. And when it 'clicks' between her and the family, and I expect it will, she will have a place to return too some other time too.
to return to*
Here's hoping :)
:D
everybody always loves my girl. She is very lovable and good company. The guy is a bit uppity, but has a good heart. Don't know his wife or kids but Rob says they are ok.
found the 7
That's a good start and that fact that they could he 4 out is also good.
WTG Sprite
yeah it is nice all over. Will miss her though!
Of course you will
How long will she be away?
a week
I expect it'll go very fast though probably faster for her.
oh, for her it will be over in a flash, no doubt.
don is reading an article written by someone called daniel greenfield. it is about the refugees and their attitudes. it's unbelievable.
in what way?
no wonder the countries close to syria don't want them. the ones in sweden are stripping their clothes off in protest because it is cold. the ones in italy are demanding food from their own country and won't eat pasta. and on and on
Time for me to go - out to a friend's for dinner tonight and need to get ready. Whale watching tomorrow - one of the last of this season. Hugs to you both.
they have been offered stations where they can access the internet, but are protesting because they want free wifi.
{{hugs}} lizgirl. xoxox to you both
Rob has encountered so much gratitude from the refugees. And I can understand, up to a point, the attitude. Having to flee your country and ending up somewhere you never wanted to be is a total loss of control of one's life. I can understand the tendency to lash out to something, anything, once you are safe. It is not smart nor grateful, but understandable.
have a grand time, Liz. *hugs* for you both.
one family have been put up in a caravan with air-con, water everything. not one word of thanx. because they are muslim they expect us as infidels to serve them.
again, Rob hasn't encountered any of that kind of attitude here. He couldn't enter one of the buildings or he was hugged, or waved at.
i guess sprite, it depends on the group of people. it just seems a pity that the few are making it more difficult for the majority.
Good morning! I have an interview today - so fingers crossed
it's the same ol', same ol'.
good luck, matty. i hope everything goes smoothly for you.
that is always the case, isn't it? There are assholes in every group. But I think it is important to remember these people have seen horrible things, had to flee their homeland, got a rotten journey, ended up somewhere they didn't want to go and where they are not wanted. Total loss of control over one's life. And then they are safe, but not in a very comfortable position. The tendency to lash out at the hand that feeds them is human. It is the first step towards healing.
oh matty, good luck!
Thank you! How is everyone in your parts of the world?
you know, rose, once they get settled in a temporary place, it is the first moment they have the pe5 to realise all they have lost. It is easy to judge them. But I kinda understand the frustration.
all is well here, matty, thanks. How are you feeling?
daniel greenfield is VERY right wing
honey, i understand their frustration. but i was taught to give thanx for what i have, not regret what i have lost or don't have anymore. i am not judging, because i don't know how i would react myself.
hiya Jayk!
I'm not bad. I shall shower before too long - I've just sent the job spec and my CV to the printer so slowly getting myself ready.
jay, who does he write for?
sounds good, matty. Slow and easy. And remember they are lucky to have you.
I agree with Jayk - right wing (indeed, ANY) commentators tend to see what they want to/expect to (as I say, to be fair, confirmation bias is true for everyone, but the right seem to be more obvious about it)
I thought he might be very right wing. Phrases like us infidels having to cater to the muslims sound very rightwing to me. I for myself want to see people, and not any kind of labeled group. My love has spent most of the last few weeks helping out with the refugees and he has only encountered gratefulness and warmth and good things.
several places, all dubious.
fireflies. I really liked this grid.
okay, taking a large pinch of salt having read about him. he is so focussed on radical muslims. he probably can't see the wood for the trees. please ignore what i have said about the refugees.
WTG SPRITE!!!!
will do, honey *hugs*
I haven't yet found a single big word :( (mind you. there are only 2)
they are fun to find, matty :)
May I have stats please? Pretty please - just stats?
I am off for today. A big *hug* to you all. Matty, good luck with the interview. Rose, sleep well again and rest up :) And the rest of you, have a lovely day.

RE+ replace the bottom of a shoe?
ty zooz
The back part.
Welcome.
The power has been cycling. The sound of it going out and coming on has been waking me. So much for sleep tonight. May Dominion -- the power company -- get it sorted out soon.
Sorry to here that, DC :-(
part of it is the neighborhood is now 29 years old and the underground power cables of that era have a roughly 30-year lifespan.
Hear*
My mom's neighborhood, now 40 years old, has had the cables replaced twice now. The oldest cables -- laid in the 60s had a shorter life.
yay recursiveness! my friends rock.
I hope they can get it sorted out soon for you, DC, and hope it lasts a long time!
well, i'm moving next week, so it won't be my problem after that. :)
Oh well..lol
and all in all, it's a small price not to have overhead utilities.
Hope you like the new area you are moving to, Dc, and the move goes smoothly for you.
Hello to the boys
my message got lost in the ether - I was saying that I agreed that overhead utilities are horrid...ugly poles and bad pruning of street trees every year to keep them away from wires
Hello, Lynxxx :-)
hi Zooz...how have you been keeping?
Yes we still have a few of those here as well. Thankfully though they are on a rapid decline and underground ones being installed!
I have been keeping okay thanks for asking, Lynxxx. How about your good self?
I've been pretty well - day;light saving coming up this weekend and Spring kinda happening - looking forward to getting away from the very cold Winter we have had
Oh yes so it is! The opposite for us here then..lol
Already having rather cool nights :-(
I hope you have a wonderful summer, Lynxxx :-)
you are very sweet - TY
We have been lucky the last four or five days now as it has been blues skies and rather pleasant! Hope it lasts a little longer not that i m greedy or anything..lol
an Indian Summer for the Isle of Wight
Yep!
I might leave the rest of this for the morning...goodnight Zooz and you enjoy the rest of yr Indian Summer
We're still on DST here in the States for another 5 weeks. I never change my clocks to standard time. We spend a whopping 20 weeks a year on so-called 'standard' time. Hmph.
Have a wonderful night, Lynxxx. And hope to see you soon!
g'night lyn
It is a bind, DC.I personally wish they would leave the tie change alone. It is such a hassle keep changing the clocks and watches.I do have two that change automatically but the rest I have to do.
Time*
I strongly prefer GMT-4 to GMT-5 DST/EST where i live. AKA here as Grid+1
I don't mind getting up in the dark. I hate having to leave work in the dark, thouh.
I seem to be one of the few people who likes DST (BST). It makes me happy
my phone and computer auto-update.
Fireworks!
it's neat when i cross time-zone lines, as there's often a lag depending on the tower spacing. It took 30 min into Eastern from Central last time for my phone to update. Flat out there, so signals carry far.
well done, matty!
Congrats, Matty!
I don't think most care summer or regular time, so much as want government to pick one and stick with it.
Exactly!
Then there's Spain, which is advance 1hr year-round and 2h during summer time.
And Russia advances timezones by an hour like that, too. But at least they're far enough north for that to make a difference.
Good morning.
morning, sukee.
Hello, Sukee :-)
Hi zoo.
good morning, everyone!
Russia has so many time zones..lol
Hi lbd, how did the interview go?
Hello, Dawg :-)
morning, dawg.
hi sukee, zooz, dc. interview went ok. that was round one, we'll see if I made the cut for round 2.
Good luck for round two if you get it then, Dawg!
may it be so, dawg.
ty, zooz.
Good morning, everybody :)
Hello, Crossy :-)
Hi crossy
morning, crossy.
ty, dc. I need the change in venue from what I'm doing now. Hi Crossy
birds just started singing here. So that means the sun'll be up ere long. Behind the clouds.
Nice, all I hear is trafic.
traffic
Hello hello
i have the sound of silence! lovely.
I always hear birds in the morning now I feed the birds everyday in my back garden :-)
Hello, Kiwi :-)
evening, kiwi
Cats got us up at 04:30 :( cat #1 sat on my face and requested breakfast..... so was up before the burds...
I hear the waves crashing on the beach in the still of the night lol
nice.
Very nice, Kiwi :-)
eeew, Crossy..lol
the sound of waves keeps me awake most of the time, at least recordings of it do.
Was nit overly impressed lol
hiya, kiwi
I feed the cats before i go to sleep to avoid that.
I can walk to the beach in less than two minutes from where I am.
Mine are currently running around chasing each other after having finished off the milk from my Cheerios.
I wake up at 4 am everyday
Usually I'm fighting traffic and planes and wind to hear them so it's a nice change
me too, bichon, unless i have to go in to work at 5, then i'm up at 3
I am amazed at how many early birds there are here on babble.I am not too keen on early mornings.
I wake up at 5:30 most mornings
Wow that is way too early, Dawg!
Trader Kate is one too. Wonder where she is
I think that as you get older you get up earlier
Molly also is an early riser if I remember correctly.
If I sleep in, the cats let me know.
I like the early mornings, no traffic! it's quiet and peaceful.
I have heard that, Bichon.Still waiting to see if that will happen to me.Not happend yet :-)
happened*
traderkate was up very late -- she was here around flip.
ooh, the sky is lightening. and it's raining again. It's supposed to rain all week.
I have to wear a jacket today for the first time since May...
Well at least the plants will be happy, DC :-)
well I've always liked early mornings, but it does seem that the older i get the earlier i get up. but then bed time is dependent on work hours so 8 or 9pm for bed.
Zoom it's nearly midnight ere in New Zealand
I have been wearing a coat for ages, Sukee.
oh, indeed re the plants -- we had a very dry August.
rain...would love to have some.
oh, you're in California, yes?
And being as its that late I need to go find m dreams. Good n all
And being as its that late I need to go find m dreams. Good n all
sweet drams, kiwi
Have a wonderful nights sleep, Kiwi!
Thanks. Toodles xxx
huh. the US has 10 time zones. Russia has 12.
oops I just sneezed and now I have a nose bleed..lol
bummer. Neti pot is your friend in terms of keeping the sinuses in good repair
sweet sleeps, kiwi
I have never heard of neti pot! Will googl it.
I like my neti pot but I don't use it enough.
it looks like a teapot you pour water through your nose.
Almost missed that mid-eastern animal.
eeww not sure I want to use that!
It's easy to use, you pour water in one nostril, bend to the side and it come out of the other one.
Just watched a youtube video of it.Not keen on it myself.
But it really brings relief.
Can I have a clue for the E in the middle column?
ey 4/6
sukee, Jane Ey.., change last vowel
Never mind, got it.
ty Annie, and good morning :)
beat me to it
nbt
Hi Sukee, did the Jays clinch the division?
hi cece, hi annie
Not yet, the number is one. Last night was rained out, they have to play a double header today.
hi dawg and everyone
good morning!
We will get to rub it in the face of those nasty Baltimore Orioles :)
The team is also 1.5 games ahead of Kansas City.
Baseball day for you then. Boston fans as just as bad.
They are playing for home-field advantage in the playoffs now.
I have given up on the Yankees for this year.
You have to understand, this has not happened since 1993 :)
Yes, the Yankees peaked too soon I think.
Go Baltimore! :)
Baltimore is out anyway :)
Yeah, i know. So are we here in DC.
Yes, the Yankees had it and they caved. *sigh*
Baltimore won the division last year in Toronto, so it's only fair we win it there this year :)
right, on, sukee!
And we have to show the guys who were yelling "Go back to Canada"
eery
oops....sorry
Im going to look for the game today but I doubt if it is showing in NY. Maybe ESPN
good thing it's not in the puzzle :)
all good, ladycece :) we all do it now and again.
Be back in a sec, have to get ready to go out.
Push the M out of the way and you have it
sinkhole on a major commuter road in Falls Church, VA today. So that's closed for a day or two.
pe4y is so a word -- it's cider of pe4s.
oh, wow. My cat Smokey Quartz is in my lap. His fur shines in the light of my monitor. Yay healthy coat.
Back for a few minutes.
I get the same feeling when my black cat sits on my lap, so shiny.
Actually, have to go now. Take care all and have a great day.
have a great day, sukee
bye sukee
have a good one, sukee
morning, annie
hi dc, nice to see you
It's as light as it's going to get here today. The clouds will be thicker later i think.
very cloudy he4 also, looks like we are going to have rain
we have rain the rest of the week across NC up into PA.
Is the ca8 a word we would be familiar with?
to low pressure systems and a tropical storm
it extends the ca5 animal, i think it's one who rides or handles the animal.
er, two low pressure...
when i'm tired, which i am, my spelling goes to pot.
thanks, dc
good morning
hi car/
the pe7 extends the pe4 before it -- sounds like a chemical

hello friends
gm trif, jow was the rain?
okay. they won the game! Rain is BUCKETING down now!
woohoo for the win!
it was actually pretty cool - they played on the new turf field, under the lights and all. Every time the hit the ball though, a mighty burst of water splashed all over
would make for cool pictures
I was a parent unto myself - I grabbed secondo's rain coat out of the closet on my way out the door, and it positively REEKED of weed - I thought it best not to sit too close to anyone else! lol
uh oh!
yeah, that's a good way to get a "reputation"
indeed
is weed legalized there?
it is where she goes to college
its not my favorite thing, but Im picking my battles
here too
I hate the smell of it
me too. it's just not my thing. I would much rather enjoy a nice cabernet
I don't mind it being legal... not worth the money spent on fighting that drug war, but I do wish they would enforce no smoking laws as strictly with it as they do with cigarettes. Both set off my allergies something fierce
good point!
I don't mind it being legal either. It's not like people who overdo weed get crazy and beat up cops and such.. they just want to chill out and eat doritos
plus, bc I work for the fed, I can be randomly drug tested... I always wonder what would happen if they test me after a concert in one of the parks where the weed cloud was so strong
again, excellent point
I suspect Frito Lay is donating heavily to the legalization funds ; )
if they aren't they should be!
bell....didn't make nbt. bummer
enjoy your day, trif
fw, and off to work..
quick clue for the 8 please then i must go.

Oh be kind to yourself. Just because you don't see a word, that doesn't make it a DUH
feels like a duh...
Why? We all miss words in these grids. Especially when they are spelled to the left and down.
don't know why....just feels like a duh.... ;o)
i am done... :o)
hello friends

ca 8/50....animal + homonym for head appendage...

not getting the head word. got the animal of course.
got it. ok. ty. i was sure there was an a in the word at the end somehow. duh.
how about the 7? any clues?
person who keeps the animal?
add and extra vowel to the word after it.
is that a clue mixi? a person who keeps the animals? a keeper? hmmmm. was that a clue for the 7?
keeper was for the 8.
ok. got that one. ty.
need the 7 now please. clues weclome and stat.
add the extra vowel was for the 7.
mixi what do i take away though?
is the animal in it totally? then need 2 more letters.
pe7,32. add an extra vowell to the middle of the pe6,21 that follows it.
oh ty. what is the pe 6...hmmmm dont have it yet.
ok lets back up. so the 7 has nothing to do with the 8. right? it is pe? ok. so any clues for it at all? i dont have a pe 6.
pe6, french for father + not off.

hello again...
pkg needs a very large drink...
pkg??
mkg, that is... I know the feeling of confusion of a plethora of clues
maybe a wholepackage of drinks? lol
i'll take one....been trying to reduce the size of an image and i can't find an easy way to do that in Photoshop Elements....
I have Photoshop Creative Cloud, and it shows Image Size and Canvas Size under the Image menu. Maybe Elements works differently?
irfanview...free download and you can re-size, crop and adjust color...among other things. I see the frog is back.
yes, the frog is back because i could not resize an image ...
i tried changing the dimensions, the dpi....but it doesn't really affect the file size...
color depth might be the other thing to change, depending on what options you get from "Save As"
thanks but i am not going to deal with it anymore tonight....
kedoke
too tired...
ooh...i think i did it...
dpi is for printing, it has no effect whatsoever on the PC. Resolution has a major effect, also the file type. PNG is a great lossless format, but does badly on photos. For photos you need JPG, with 80-90% quality.
yes, my image is a jpeg file...
Can you see my new pic?
yep, after reloading
great!
beaut!
thanks....my friend took the pic on Monday....
as i was eating my lobster roll.... ;o)
