On something totally different. just finished 2 days of wrestling with bell Canada. Was attempting to take an older pay-as-you-go phone I have, put a new sim card in it and activate it. Sounds easy, eh? NOT! I was shoved to more departments that i care to recall. The problem for me was to activate this phone in store would have been a $50.00!! surcharge, and I balked at that idea. self-activation online is free, but they made it so complex and convoluted that I have up after 5 hours and numerous attempts. Finally, after endless calls to endless bell departments, I was able to get it activated for a "mere" ten dollar fee...
I hate phone triad monopolies (Bell, Sprint, Rogers) in our case...
gave up*
sounds like my recent experience with amazon. whatever happened to customer service?
I think they are much like your AT&T :(
true!
That is another thing. How come ever tech i talk to sounds like English is their third language? Trying to get my points across took endless repetitions..
every
YES! I finally ended up with someone named Elizabeth but I get that wasn't her given name!
'cos they are all in Singapore or India
I almost wept with relief when my complaint was upgraded and I finally got someone who understood my problem and responded with something other than canned IT macro responses.
I was IT once I know you have a digital book full of pre-made macro response for 100 different questions, but just once, please divert from the play book and answer my questions. lol
so very frustrating
Snagged a nice phone number though. Made him look a bit and found one ending in 0005
cool
Cross - have you tried out Microsoft 10 yet - or are you still waiting?
sorry - windows 10
I feel that i would not be happy with 10. it is too invasive with my personal information. I am using 7 pro right now and do not have to deal with 8 so I will stay put for now.
interesting - TY
I have researched 10 quite a bit, and do not care for how my information is used. Sometimes "free" is not always free.
if i had been stuck with 8 though, i might have risked it
I also have a "builders" copy of 7 Pro, so i can install it on as many computers as I wish :)
I am very slow to adopt a new OS in any case. I was with 98SE for 4 years before I made the jump to XP. Then i was using XP for at least 5 years before i went to & pro. I missed all the horrible OS releases in between ;)
7*
I always appreciate your opinion
:) I try to offer sound opinions and tech advice when asked ;)
Remember back when i was giving all that advice on e book readers? I am STILL using that Sony PRS 700 reader 6 years later;)
I do. And obviously you have had value for money
I should hope so. When i bought it, the 700 was the first reader offered with a built-in reading light and the thing cost $450.00!
it does not have back-lighting like the kindle paperwhite or nook glow, but rather, it has led side-lighting in a very soft blue. it is rather soothing :)
Now they can be had on Ebay for 20-50 dollars :)
I found the je/10, what are the stats for the other 'j' please?
Weirdly I cannot even see any readers on our largest office supplier
jo4.9
thanks got it
clue for the Je?
a car
a car name
je4
argh. me dumb. thanks.
Crossy has one :)
Lynxx. if you are used to using ebay, i would grab one on the cheap there.
ordering Nook or kindle internationally can be a pita. I actually had to get my brother to buy my Nook reader in Vegas and ship it to me :(
Sadly, B&N stores stop at the border :( i would gladly send back all the wal-marts for a nice B&N

a big one
Good Afternoon. Is anyone able to give me stats for some of the upper left corner P?
I have the pi 4/5, but haven't found another one yet.
ph 5/18 (do you want a clue?)
Hi Dorens, yes, I would like a clue now
ph + how old you are
THANK YOU! (I've been trying to find any word from that P for over 10 minutes I think!
well those are my only two, but I haven't listed. (and am trying to resist the urge)
I'm over half way, so (by my own *personal* rules) I can list if I want. But I'm trying to resist the temptation too.
I'm down to 34, and by my own "personal" rules I can too. (half to have at least half in every box) but I'm not quite ready yet.
LOL! Isn't it funny how we create rules for ourselves?
i've gotten a lot less "rule" oriented in retirement (or advanced age) and I basically do whatever I feel like doing at the moment. Liberating.
True. Then again; being retired, I put off a lot of stuff until later & (because I don't follow my rules or schedule) everything gets very disorganized
oh i totally lack organization. keep saying I'll get there one of these days, but being far too lazy.
Yep! Me too! :-)
ok. down to 25 now and I have to get a few things done. be back later... happy babbling, Nef
Bye now, HAGD!
Hi nef :)
Hi Kate. Sorry for the slow response; first I chatted in the wrong box (imagine that!) then I hit a wrong button and ended up on a wrong page!
LOL, no apology needed... we've all done that.. (I tend to wander away without saying bye too :( )
Enjoying the grid today?
Nope. Are you?
I thought it was lively, finished now... looked at the chog, looks like many finished rather quicklyand sans list to boot!
really? (Now I'm depressed I'm not so fast oe smart!) ;-)
can clue if you like?
I only ever finished one without a list... a very small one, at that. I would lose my mind daily without lickety...
right now I'm not sure. I finally got through those pesky P's; so that helps
oh, you know those speed demons atthe flip... many of them are so quick...am jealous - I'll never be that good!
if you're going a -z, the rest is easy-peasy ;)
Sometimes I wonder if the list isn't there if they are really that fast. Or maybe, have some of them made their own program like Lickety's?
THanks; I've never tried atop like that; but maybe that's what I need these days
a to z
I think they are.... good memories for less common words, coupled with amazing typing skills...and concentration... I think vollymomdee does it letter by letter top left to bottom right until she gets it all.. very organised !
Oh, she isn't one that I've thought that about; it was a young whippersnapper guy a few years ago... I think he'd claim he was done in 10- 15 minutes!
oh... don't remember him (I was on haiatus for quite a while)..maybe he was fibbing, who knows? Doen't really matter though, if he needed his ego boosted that badly, let him have it...
LOL! So true!
I don't remember what his name was; but I haven't seen him for a long time.
:)
got the pom poms out for you nef...
Did you finish, Kate? I still have 29 words left
I am finished, yes.
YAY, Kate!!! WTG!!!
lol, tytytty <curtsies daintily >
I'm probably not going to finish just yet. DH is interrupting me; & now would like some lunch
Bye Kate!! HAGD!
are you following the baseball now?
by nef!
No, the Twins are out now. :-(
that line from Scrooge... I don't mind atending, but I must be fed! (to Scrooge's funeral)
Jays aren't... very happy in Canuck land right now...
I bet!
well, lost the first game (home), up 4-3 in the 8th right now...nail biter
Enjoy!
you too, see you later this evening maybe..
haha kate I am in Dallas, perhaps we will have a friendly rivalry over the next few days! :)
yes we will...you've got so much skill...and the EXPERIENCE...i hope it is a good series...
mwahahahaha...now I know where you are...
I figured you for a North-Easterner somewhere up here...
well I did grow up in NY state then lived in CT and Boston for many years, so your instincts are spot on
aha! my powers of ESP are intact, LMAO
must be my northeast accent ;)
that must be it...a bit of that "Bahstn" drawl (twang?) maybe coming through.l lol
lol...now I'm working on my Texas twang and incorporating "y'all" into as many sentences as possible
lol, good luck with that!
I have discovered a really good trivia site (not on FB) having a blast playing (way too much)..
cool, what is it called?
although i am too already spending too much time playing games instead of looking for a job...:)
fun trivia.. has tons of quizzes..and many word quizzes/games.. can be a real tiem suck if you let it.. you can even join teams for team and single play http://www.funtrivia.com/
or perhaps brushing up on grammar :0
I know what you mean blah... I have been at the keyboard far too much lately myself.
someone posted a site about a month ago that had all kinds of word games in it, I lost track of it though.. it was very engaging, but membership was required after 7 days...
Back. (I Love left overs; makes fixing food the next day so easy!)
:)
my thoughts exactly... this is why I love having 2 Thankisgivings...
2 Thanksgivings? (oh; do you mean the Canadian one & the US one?)
yes...I am in a border town and 1/2 US as well...
we made a full t-giving dinner in June because we were craving it so much!
Nice (as long as You don't have to cook for them!!!)
therea,in June? Wasn't that hot then? (You must have been dying ion the heat then!
nah just cranked up the a/c but yeah it was a pretty heavy meal for summer...delish tho...
lol blah! what nef said...
I love a good turkey dinner with all the fixings...
it's really hard to find turkey gravy in june :p
it is?
You don't make your own from scratch, therea?
always willing to try but i like to have a backup just in case, and for leftovers
i love turkey...
most of the grocers here sell "scratch" gravy but only around the holidays
I lkie to make my own from scratch (champion pan scraper) but then supplement it with the Knorr or Club HOuse packaged mixes... becauser yyou can NEVER have too much gravy...
exactly!
Hi TO :)
but i hate gravy.
A good gravy is its own food group :)
11th inning game tied at 4 all...
hi TO! i love turkey too, trying to learn more ways to cook it throughout the year. easier now with availability of turkey parts
lol, so true crossy :)
why don't you like gravy TO?
oooh kate, don't think i can watch
i have made turkey breast at other times. it is time to cook autumn.
Very true! (although when I've made it with "help" from a pkg, it isn't as good & it sits around until after the turkey is gone
I'm not actually watching..getting updates via FB chat.. don't have cable tv
I am not going with an entire bird this year, but will by a large turkey breast instead and doing it up nice in the slow cooker from frozen.
Sounds like a great game!
i don't know, i just hate it.
i love gravy, and i put it on everything on the plate
even the veggies????
yes! yum!
(Hi To and crossy)
hence the need for lots of extra, lol
Howdy nef :)
T.O.
i have made gravy from elvis' recipe. that i can stand. otherwise it is dry, or if beef, au jus.
mmm nothing like hot turkey sandwiches next day
hi nef
Can't have enough... especially when planning for left-overs...
right on crossy!
then again, aside from the green beans, there isn't much of a vegetable presence
i think i hear someone at the door
i'm the only one who likes the rutabaga so i get lots of rutabaga leftovers
Big meals like that make for good fry-ups:)
yum...then i make a big pot of turkey noodle soup
Yuppers. i will have my slow cooker ready to go from now till next spring. love making hearty meals with it during the winter.
turkey and dumplings;)
crossy, I recently started using my pressure cooker again. Have you tried using one?
Jamaican pulled turkey lol
yum! glad the weather is getting cooler to make soups and stews
I do not use pressure cookers. TBH, the things scare me. had one let go on me many years ago.
I love making soups & stews. DH gets tired of them though.
(cooler being a relative term here...it's 87 f today...)
we are going down to 0C/32F tonight :)
i've never used a pressure cooker but have been tempted to buy one
they are supposed to be safer these days
Ours is much safer than the one my Aunt had when I was a kid. This one automatically vents if it gets too hot.
Meat comes out just falling apart tender; think microwave speed with slow cooker results
The only thing i would consider using one for is when I need to can meat products, but I have yet to get up the nerve and buy one. Ask me to take care of a wild bear and i am fine, but pressure cookers? no way... lol
my mom used one all the time when I was a kid..I used it then, but now i'm a bit scared of them too... do remember stories of them "blowing up"
i know to guys who swear by them. they have very high end heavyweight ones from germany. they self vent if pressure gets to high.
I haven't tried canning meat yet. And I threw out my old canner now (CO2 alarms all went off
meat really does come out so tender.. and they are so quick too...
nef, is yours electric or stovetop?
I had heard of that happening to someone else, Nef. the problem stemmed from the long stove-top burn time needed on a gas range in combination with a non-functional or missing hood vent.
When I was a kid, that old pressure cooker blew up twice: once while someone was making popcorn in it & once while making sauerkraut & meat (can't remember which kind though). The sauer Kraut caused 2nd degree burns on my AUnt & cousin, and it was all over the big kitchen; we even had to scrape it off the ceiling
You know you are building co2 if the bottm of the pans/pots get covered with lots of black soot
Mine is a stove top one;
I'll join the crowd and say that pressure cookers scare the crap out of me. I've figured out a way to freeze most of what I want to "put up" for winter.
it's a 6 quart (?) Fagor brand
Dang it! IT WASN'T CO2 (like I said) its CO!
sounds bad either way nef
And yes, crossy, I had soot on the bottom of my canner. It actually was DH's grandmother's canner; but over the year it had become concave; so it kind of had a high spot in the middle and our CO level was way over 200 in the house.
hmm, why would that be? I never thought of co2 from ordinary cooking
carbon monoxide, TO. I have a gas stove, and the burner is smaller than the canner; so with the long processing for the tomatoes, and then concave outer bottom for the canner, more Oxygen was burnt off
i just installed a CO2 detector in my place.. one of the directions said no closer than 15' form a kitchen (I have a gas stove, but it wasn't specified in the instructions)
(the type of stove, that is)
i thought most stoves have two burner sizes.
i am sorry, i is CO
our CO monitors are in the basement. The one is plugged in to an electric outlet about 15 inches from the floor and it's about 20 feet away from the kitchen (which is on the main floor). The other CO monitor is on the risers of the basement stairs and is over 3 feet off the floor & battery operated) it's maybe 10 feet from the kitchen
ooops..CO
i think it
My stove had a power burner (which I use all of the time & isbigger than the rest, then a smaller power burner, then a regular sized one; then a "normal sized " burner and a simmer burner and then the griddle burner in the middle
oops i think it's supposed to be pretty far from the garage too so it doesn't pick up car emissions
the CO alarm that sounded first was the lower one; the one on the stair riser (which is closer, but higher) sounded a while after the other one.
we have an attached garage, and it was built onto the house after the house was built; so there are 2 basement windows going into the garage. Because of the CO leaking into the basement; we've never been able to park our car in the garage
so much for having an attached garage :(
yep. In Minnesota
I am too used to having to shovel 2 feet of snow off the car every other day. The luxury of an indoor garage would be too much of a shock :)
oy
cannot wait for our first heavy snowfall;)
(And that's why we have 2 CO monitors; we have a bedroom in the basement.
i refused to buy a house without an attached garage
friends of mine "dont
They are nice to have, therea, just don't have one with basement windows in it.
friends of mine 'don't care' about having a garage and their cars have been damaged at least 3 times by falling tree limbs, hail, etc
good point nef!
Crossy, I would much rather have a nice dry hot summer (we've had too much rain and cool weather here)
i always enjoyed the first nice snowfall...it was the 20th one that irked me, lol
Could I please have a clue for the ga 6/24? I've been searching to no avail here.
ga - heavy wind and add two vowels
thanks therea. I thought I tried that several times
yvw
oh no.tornado warning. probably will not make it to this area, but it is fast moving. a severe storm line approaching.
WHere is that, TO?
oh no! what area of the country are you in TO?
PA
Stay Safe, please!
bow echo. and rotation. whatever, severe weather must go get mail.
stay safe TO
(I never knew they had tornados out there)
less common in the northeast, but happens from time to time
oh yes, it is very still but the western sky is dark
scary. I've heard the tornado sirens several times since i moved here and it makes my hair stand on end
Hello friends :-)
hi soodle
Hi Soodle! How are you? :-)
I'm good, Nef! And you?
Thunder! will take a break
BYE, TO Be safe!
I'm fine Soodle. Trying to behave
Be safe TO, bye!
Hi Soodles :)
hi all
Hi Peri :)
Hi peri
opts
The latest in the saga of my Dad in the Nursing Home..... We got him a new electric wheelchair - about $8,000 - on the recommendation of an Occupational therapist. Today at lunch - he confused the 'reverse' function with the 'tilt function & ended up upscuttling the whole table over the other 5 residents at the table. Sheesh!
uh oh
Sorry .... Was busy typing... (((Kate)))
Last word LE 5/14? Clues please.
LOL!
At least he wasn't running over the other residents with it! (A friend with MS had his taken away because of that)
Le 5/14 is the kind of service that an attorney provides.
((( Soodles ))) LMAO... I'm sorry... it's not really funny, but it made me burst out laughing... I could just picture it...
gramma has to do with the law
TY. w/3 lawyers in the family you'd think I would ahve seen it.
Honestly!! I'm in my mid 50's now, and so fortunate to still have both parents, but, by heck, it's hard work!
congratulations gramma!
Clue before I go?
YAY, gramma! WTG!!!
I can't believe you're that old Soodles... you have such a youthful appearance from the photos I have seen...you look like you're in your 30s
Soodle, you are what is known as being in the "sandwich generation". Worrying and taking care of both parents and kids!
Keep going, Kate, keep going..... Lol!
Tell me about it Nef! It's difficult!
Well okie dokie then, g'nite.
Soodles.. you have an effervescent perstonality and sparkling wit, you're a good cook as well.... (how am I doing so far?)
bye gramma :) Hi Molly :)
My sister is a GP & she has spent the past week in London doing a course on Botox. She is looking for guinea pigs... i'm very very tempted.... (Entre nous, I wish she had done a lipo-suction course)
I'll take one of each please...
<-----Loves Kate!
would you volunteer for her, Soodle? (I wouldn't for mine!)
I'd love to get a mini-botox for my forhead, aside from cost, I worry that they will over do it... or miss the spot and I will be expressionless for 6 months...
:D
Same here, Soodle
Since no one needs clues, I am giving compliments to all that want one.. ;)
I have 1 word left, a T4
Done! :-D
I wear my hair down over my forehead, so wrinkly foreheads don't bother me. I'm betwixt & between about allowing her to trick around with my crow's feet around the eyes.
< drumrollllll >
congratulations nef!
thanks, Kate!
Whoo-Hoo Nef!!!!! Good woman yourself!
Thanks, Soodle.
Soodle, if I let my sister do something like that to me (that's IF any of then were GP's); I know they'd purposely mess it up on purpose (I was the one they picked on as a kid)
Anyone need any clues?
I'm only noodling half-heartedly around the grid, Nef, but thanks anyway. :-)
Lol, Nef @ your 4.20 post!!! Still rankles?
My hardest letter was that upper left corner P; it took forever and Lickety's list to finally find it
Nope, if all of us are together at once, I still end up as the one they pick on (I don't like to argue or fight; and I don't live near them; so I think I'm probably easy to pick on)
Today's highlight, amidst all the geriatric shennagins, was winning tickets for Rod Stewart's concert here in Jume next year.
Woo Hoo Soodle! That should be fun!
Last call: anyone need any clues? I'll be gone in about 5 minutes if no one does.
no one needs clues? Okay, Good bye everyone! Happy Babbling!
bye nef!
Blast. I got caught up on the phone .... More geriatric drama! Bye Nef.
hello...
Dammit. I suppose I should start looking for words in the grid now that there's nobody to chat to. Ho hum.
Hi Pen :-)
bye nef!
Hi Pen :)
ahem.....what am i, chopped liver?.....*channeling Rodney Dangerfield*....
< passes the toast points >
Aaarrrggghh.... Our posts crossed, Pen!
no problem...
chopped liver cannot speak...
{{{((( Pen )))}}}
it's an old joke...
ty!
yes....
are you finished pen ?
Silently thanking the powers that be that I can stop looking for nonsensical words.... Lol
no, just came on to find my last 35....now 33....
aside from the perplexing p's, the grid's fairly friendly soodles
go pen go!!!
So.... The phone call that interupted me was from the Botox-syringe-weilding sister. Talk about touting for business!!!
are you going to do it?
after all, the effects do wear off in time if she hasn't done her homework properly ;)
Don't you get migraines Soodle? Botox is wonderful for them I hear
Kate, I'll flaff about, and make a big song & dance, but ultimately, of course I will!
botox was mentioned as a possible treatment for the tendonitis in my arm....
Morning everyone
hi...
lol soodles... go for it, after all, free is good...
Hi Lynx :)
Hiya Lynn :-). Nope. Of all my many many complaints ... Migraine doesn't feature. Yet.
Lynn.. Just looking at your profile pic .... Have you seen Harrods og London's Halloween display this year?
No - guessing it is Yellow Brick Road?
Migraine - I think I was confusing you with Trifioso, which I do sometimes - you two started around the same time and seem to have many things in common - aside from being on either side of the pond
It's the Wicked Witch of the West's stripey socks & ruby slippers protruding out onto the footpath outside the store. Ten times magnified. Really cool!
Ha! that's fantastic
I just went to google it! greatdisplay!
Oh my! I'm really very flattered to be confused with Trifioso. :-). She may think differently!!! Lol
And now it's bedtime. Goodnight friends, and thanks for your company this evening. :-) poof
sweet dreams Soodle
how appropriate....my last word was fa 6....
Wanna clue your last word? :-)
alternate spelling of poop, kittychan
Got it - thanks! Would not have found it on my own.
glad to help
Crap
damn it
hello ruru
we see you

a couple of months - while you undergo treatments?
you wuss cos... never been a boy scout? LMAO...
no, that's how long the docs give me
van... the doctor's don't know everything... the most important thingis an optimistic outlook.. tons of science behind that... so get your treatments, get your rest, do your own thing..and watch as many show that make you laugh..Big Ban dow to the Honeymooners...just laugh.. it has rather miraculous restorative properties... the most important is not to give up and by Jove, enjoy what you have while you have it.. smell the roses, as they say.. but most of all find the laughter and the humour... it is vital... we are here - you are there; but we are all together.. avery small caring community.... never be aferaid to speak up here.
really bad typing skills here.. Big Bang down to the Honeymoooners
hope you can decipher my really bad typing..
Thats exactly how we are dealing with it Kate, thanks for your encouragement

We don't cross paths often Van,so I don't know any details.. but you have a "WE".. doesn't matter if it's a man,. woman, children, or health care team... there are people pulling for you...and someone is almost always here...
