Thinking of what my mother taught me makes me roll my eyes! Ugh!! I unlearned that when my daughter came along and I decided her life COULD be better than mine had been. It's harder to relearn now that I'm so much older...

Never mind..will get better. One brother battling cancer but on the right path, another brother who had a stroke followed by seizures that have left him with severe paranoia which is hard to deal with, my mother passed away at the ripe old age of 97 and life goes on.

so I found out zooz most computers have it I have seen it on the computers we have had before this one but it just so happens it is hidden on this one
at any rate, if you have defender you do have protection from viruses. If you want extra protection you might want to look at malware bytes.

Go to your program files, find defender, right click on it and choose send to desktop. That will put an icon on your desktop that you can click on to check that the update is current and to see if there is anything in quarantine that you should get rid of

with windows 8, you should have microsoft essentials unless maybe it was a really late version. Are you sure it isn't MacAfee or Norton that is preventing you from downloading a different av program?
if you are upgrading to win 10, don't worry about it -- you will have the latest version of Windows Defender

I agree about Mcafee, Mlf it started having problems and would not stop updating itself non stop. Plus they wanted £89 for a renewal of the updates for a ye4. So i changed to Kaspersky and so far no problems.

I have heard lots of reviews about Kaspeersky, Nan and they were detecting more trojans, Malware and viruses than any other AV program including windows defender.

I don't care if microsoft tracks where I go and what programs I use -- they are not doing a personal tracking, they are gathering the info so that they can improve their product to meet the most popular usage.
My son, the Google employee uses Chrom and Windos 10 and he would know if it's problematic

NO PART of my college experience had to deal with "what would we do if a gunman was on campus?" I can't stand that young people today must face this. it's bullshit.
