oh, yes sweetie. That isn't the problem. I can pick my own shifts. It is the life at home that doesn't let itself be regulated. Kids needing their mummy late at night, hubby away for the weekend, and always exactly when I have other things planned. Nothing big. Just hectic.
part of the problem is that I like to plan ahead, while Rob prefers to do things in the spur of the moment. So I will have my shifts planned and he will come and say, do you need the car this weekend? And then I think, well, I can take my bicycle, so go. And it stacks.
sprite, you need to be firmer both with yourself and the kids. they are old enough to take care of themselves. you provide the wherewithall and they can prepare their own meals. etc.
but rose, it isn't the meals. It is my girl coming into my bedroom all in tears because her friend has been found in her own vomit and taken to the hospital unconciously. I can't tell her to park it until next morning, now can I? :)

There was a TV program on last night and they were saying about the advertisments on dog food (sure it is the same for cat food) they put on the tin beef in large letters but when you read the label. Most of them have a meat derivative so it could be beef as low as 8% and the rest of the meat made up of guts and innards of other animals as much as 70%
It's still cheaper than the food I was buying for my last cat Boo, that was from the vet.
And the fact they like it so much helps made the decision easier :)
And speaking of kitties, one just crawled into my lap :)

In fact I have on the sofa a duvet so at night when it is colder i sit there with a hot water bottle under the duvet and watch TV. econmy 7 heating is rubbish at night.
back when we lived further north, we used to have a wood stove. problem was, after being out all day in minus 30 or minus 40, and snowmobiling, ice skating, or ice fishing, you would sit in front of all that heat and fall asleep with your face in your bowl of soup :)

Yeah I don't usually bother with the heating. Takes too long to warm up. Plus you don't get that nice snuggly feeling that you do with duvets and blankets. Cross that sounds nice though.

When I lived in Oxford we used to have an olld victorian oven the black ones they were amazing at throwing heat out and staying warm for hours after they were put out.
If I win the lottery it will be moving into a better built house than this pit hole lol

We have quite a few original log homes around Blue Mountain dating from the turn of the last century. they are amazing and have been lovingly refurbished and cared for. however, because of our tourist location a good solid 2-3 bedroom log home runs about $600,000.00 and up

problem is that new log homes can be a pain. there is lots of "settling" and re-chinking in the first two years. you spend your first 2 years shaving the tops of doors and reajusting cupboard doors and everything shifts and settles

it is amazing, feenix. the fresh wood smell fades quite a bit over time, but the logs store heat and are basically self-insulating. What i love is that there are no walls to paint, and if you wish to hang something on the walls you can just do it any old way you like
I would love to live in one. I don't think we have any in the uk that aren't part of a holiday tourist type place.

the reason for the add on you see on the small log home, and on most of them now, is for water and electric. orginally they had neither, so there had to be a spot made for the bathroom, hot water tank and electric panel

my two oldest boys (19 & 20) moved out last night, Yayyyy. I know i am supposed to be sad, but I am too happy for them to be. I still have my youngest 15.
Some places in the uk still have toilets outside, although I'm sure most of the properties have built their own toilets inside the main house. This is from when toilets used to be shared between quite a few houses.

i tried to grab some coffee from the office kitchen earlier, but whoever took the almost-last drop decided not to make a new pot. OFFICE FOUL!

i almost never drink the office coffee, but every single time i do, i always manage to get the end of the pot. and then i MAKE A NEW ONE! its not that difficult!

my boss has a keurig in her office. she lets folks use it (if shes not busy) but shes not in today.
i dont even drink coffee very often...i just had a craving today!

im actually not a huge early gray fan -- i find it to floral. english breakfast is the staple. i like a good strong black tea and a nice, smooth rooibos. fruity teas are tasty (especially with honey!) and i even anjoy a green tea now + then.
