Good morning all from snowy, rainy Kitchener.
Morning, Sukee, snowy here as well
Hi crossy. Going to warm up too so it'll be a mess.
Yup. Mud season is just around the corner :)
I can handle the snow, it's the freezing rain...
We are in an apple belt here heavy freezing rain plays havoc on the apple trees :(
Still cleaning up from last time farmers have lots of apple wood in the kindling bins
I keep thinking this is the last gasp of winter and then there is another one.
In my area and a tad north where my da lives, we often see it snow I to the second week of May
Rule of thumb here is to never plant till may 24 the at the earliest. Though as this gs keep getting warmer that will change I am sure
I am on tablet so please excuse high than usual number of typos
That is okay
I want to put my boots away :)
Slim chance of that just yet :)
Think I am stuck.
free one .... commandment: ***** thy father and mother and diva's forte
ty, I actually hadn't found that yet.
Found some more difficult ones though :)
So, it the 9 a continuation from ho 5/12?
Yes the second HO 5/12
ty, and hi.
Hello, Sukee :-)
Plows going by and the snow is still falling :( was hoping to get out on the trails this week, but they will be a mess :(
We currently have rain and fog.
Not going out today
Found it, with a bit of help from word find
glad you got it :-)
I must. Five hours of T.A duties followed by an out of town appt :)
I had planned to go to the drugstore, maybe I'll get them to deliver :) I am so spoiled.
Ours also offers free deliveries in town :)
It is great :) Except the woman who delivers it is older than I am :)
But, that way I am keeping her employed.
Well, need a break. 16 to go.
Yup.it is hard enough for us 50 plus to get work sometimes. Spend our lives fighting college kids for "McJob s" Keep getting those meds delivered:)
We are the "downsized, surplussed" generation.
goooooooooood mornin babblers!
Howdy, Eva :)
how goes it, Crossy?
Hi Crossy and Eva.
Oh, you were here a while ago. Hello lurkers.
good morning, Dr Scrabs!
im still here, even if Crossy is MIA. ;)
How are you, Eva? How many weeks are you now?
16 weeks today!
doing quiet well, i must say. no real side-effects to speak of, at the moment...
You had no morning sickness? You were lucky.
none at all, though for a few weeks my appetite was...off. my biggest symptom was fatigue, but that lifted significantly after the first trimester. now its just the normal (i presume) feeling of putting on weight. heh
i do have a question for you, though! i picked up some Vitamin D supplements over the weekend, but there were options + i wasnt quite sure if i got the right dosage. 1st - its D3, yes? (it's the only D they had, but they had a lot of choices in D3) also, without having myself tested, what dosage would you recommend? they had everything from 400 up to 2000 (maybe higher) and i couldnt remember what id read. the most common dosage available was 1000, so i grabbed that -- would that be right?
Do what the vitamin D experts recommend on that website. 6000 IU/day. You want to protect the developing fetal brain.
gotcha (i didnt have internet access in the store, so i couldnt pull up the website)
Vitamin D deficiency in pregnant mother's is ONE known cause of autism.
That website is written by vitamin D scientists and supported by science. It is not quackery.
thanks -- i will up my dosage + pick up some more!
Giving extra vitamin D to infants and toddlers that show autistic signs has been shown to reverse the autism, and I have one such boy that had full blown autism as a toddler and is a typical 5 yr old now.
Vitamin D is not really a vitamin. It is really a hormone that our body produces but we require sun exposure to do so.
wow -- im intrigued to know whether my friend (whose son has autism) has come across that information. she has done a lot of studying + research on the topic.
It is on that website. Dr Cannell has done and continues to do research on this.
It is ONE cause as their are many causes including genetics.
im sold. now im just gonna make sure im getting the right dosage. :)
Read the info on autism on the website. Read about the "Swedish disease" (autism) in Somali immigrants in Sweden.
Especially because you have a male fetus and autism os more common is boys.
I made sure my great-nephews had 1000 IU/day during infancy too and stay on it.
if it's not a vitamin why is it called a vitamin?
It was wrongly named.
Hello all. Chiming in on the vitamin D connversaton... Remember that D3 is fat soluble, so either use the soft gels that contain olive oil, or make sure you eat something with fat when you take dry D3. I get 5000iu soft gels from Swansonvitamins.com and take at least one a day, on average. Cool thing is it's got a half life, so if you miss a day or three, just load up again. And on the rare occasion i feel any illness knocking at my door, I take 50,000iu a day for three days and it's gone. My two cents.
what period of history was it wrongly named?
I buy my vitamins and supplements from Swanson too, Sam.
i saw the thing about having a blood level over 40 could lower cancer risk, wondering if i should double my dose
I don't know, Hurshy, but it is a hormone that we produce from sun exposure.
Read: www.vitamindcouncil.org for expert advice and fascinating info about the role of vit D deficiency in so many diseases.
Over 70 is even better.
i'll have to see if i still have the results of my last blood test so that i can see what my level was
is d level routinely tested in cbc?
I read "The Vitamin D Book" (don't recall the author), and it turns out D toxicity is very hard to achieve. You could take 150,000iu a day for 30 days and still not get there. So if you have any doubts, and don't want to pay for the test, just chug a few hundred thousand units and then go the 5,000iu a day. It's almost guaranteed you'll have enough. BTW, 5,000 a day is right for most adults.
No, Owl, it is a separate blood test.
i know i've had mine tested tho that included vit D
The vit D toxicity they yell about is really vit A toxicity, because D was so often sourced from cod liver oil, which is loaded with A. Pure D3 is utterly safe.
i don't know what you call the test but
effects of deficiency on adults?
without vit D you can't absorb calcium, so it puts you at risk for osteoperosis
plus your immune system is not as good
I take 5000 IU/day Oct-April and 2000 IU/day the remainder of the year. I allow myself 30 min of sun exposure before putting on zinc/titanium sunscreen.
You can test yourself. Just tap your shin. If it hurts, you are deficient.
Owl,vit D deficiency causes MS, cancer, depression, fatigue, worsens asthma, etc
Yes, people low in D get sick more often during the winter too.
'morning
Enjoy the day, kids. I must go do my mother's shopping and visit with her. Then I will play with my great-nephews for a bit and have some fun.

we dont need no stinkin extra U's on our words!
Excuse me my u's do not stink!!!
::sniffs:: Deeha's U's actually, yours are quite pleasant!
Just dont get any closer you might change your mind!!!
funny story: my parents are both from england, but my brother + i were born + raised here. in 2000, when my brother got married, their wedding invitations were intended to read "we request the honor of your presence..." however, no one who proofread the invitations noticed that they actually read "we request the honour of your presence..." of course my parents wouldnt notice! (and my brother is severely dyslexic, so he wasnt going to catch it either) i was away at college at the time, so they went ahead and ordered + sent them. as soon as i set eyes on it, i said "did you mean to spell it the british way?" they just decided to tell folks it was intentional. yknow, to pay homage to my parents. ;)
I am sure everybody went aaaah how nice!
similarly, no one noticed when my mother spelled MY NAME wrong on the invitations to my college graduation party. ::sigh::
Have to say I have 50 to go and I'm already bored with this grid!!
i only have 35 left, and my monkeys are DONE!
think I'll toddle off and have a break. Good luck everyone
Good morning.

Found it. Fireworks
Car's on fire.
*calls 911* Whoo hoo! Break out the marshmallos!\
Marshmallows, rather. Greetings, all.
You're killing me Smalls.
Clue for the Ho9? Is it a compound word??
Not really but two words do make it up
Color me befuddled.
it's a type of payment - put the operatic word on the end
*** blank stare ***
ar4.4
Okay. Light dawns. Ty.
Gotta go fetch the stuffed peppers. See y'all later.
A compound word is the result of two words being joined. Ergo the combination of the two words to make ho9 is a compound word.
I am no English expert, but I don't believe ho9 should be called a compound word which is why I said 'not really but....'. I wouldn't call ca7 a compound however oa7 is
Definitely not a compound word, but it is a plural.
The fact that it includes two words is not sufficient for it to be a compound word. No more than something like nutritiousness is a compound word even if you can find two legitimate words in there.
*Sends out memos to all the definers of compound words that they are wrong*
necessary and sufficient
necessary and sufficient
And as for your "definers" it's not two words being joined, like boneyard, it's a word that happens to contain two words. Sorry but there's a difference. /pedantry
ma 7/32 please?
: D : D : D
nm, fireworks for me
woo hoo LWG!
thanks dan
<---Won the bet
any clues needed?
*waving to the lurkers*....

good night pen
Take care
I have gone to the list too.
2!
done!
good night
Interesting discussion earlier regarding compound words. :)
As a babbler said earlier, it is a tempest in a teacup. Some purist claim that words are compound only when hyphenated, while others are fine with any word that contains more that one word--regardless of whether the joining was intentional or circumstantial..
I live in a writers world where every last word must be in american English prior to submission or it gets rejected, so I am used to the flexibility needed when dealing with arguable finer details of our wonderful language.
Tc all and have a great night :)
hi all. clue for the 8 please. ty.
anyone here after cross and harry left? if so hi!
ho9, please?
