I have read Dorothy Sayers but not lately
I love mysteries and thrillers

I am going. I do not need to be on Babble to be talking to my self.
be well, peri :)
sad how quiet babble has become
yeah. It has its moments, but it's mostly not been the same in a good while. :/
well.. there are several "discussions" that are frowned upon..like politics, current events, religion.. so sometimes when people try to discuss them they are shut down.. it has a rippling effect on the chat
Hi Just got back to Babbling. Am one of the 'founding fathers" lol Hoping i ccan partcipate and not just lurk
freedom from lurking is allowed.
hi doren
Lurkers be free
are you on the coast?
welcome back tedybeth
thanks
Excellent point Dorens, and very true. When people try to chat about what is on their mind (whatever that may be) and it gets shut down, it's "off putting".
So many people give good clues. Not sure I can live up to that!!
I went to Clue U.
U of Clue?
I have a minor in enable
Do the Babble "Founding Fathers" (aka The Old Guard) have special robes like the many time guest hosts of Saturday Night Live? And a Secret Club with a Secret Handshake?
actually it's Clou U, after Inspector Clouseau
it'd have to be a university.. cuz no one around here wants to go back to JC ;D
Well, you can always go back, years and years later and get your JC degree. Whee!
I meant the "comedian" JC.. :D
Oh Julian. We should have an icon of him too. He was such a "chum" here. : P
I can dig one up.. but it would upset certain players I think
Would they get the shivers?
at the very least
some people might weep uncontrollably
*Puts tissue in the PB
Good morning from Oz :)
(looks for the yellow brick road)
It's there somewhere - no rainbow today.
Do people refer to Australia as Oz because Aus sounds like Oz and they are too lazy to type out Australia? I have always wondered about that.
I don't really know but it is the land of abbreviations, so you could be right.
I think because it just sounds like it and Australia is a large word to write out
And perhaps someone thought that was how it was written.
I think you will find that 'we' don't use that word...mostly foreigners esp the British
can we send you Sharon and Ozzie Osbourne then?
and their punky little kids
Morning, Lyn
No thanks, Ru
Sharon - yes - Ozzie - no thanks
Hi Liz
I think Australia is a pretty word. I would never use Oz in place of it.
Have to work on becoming more Australian, obviously. Note to self - stop referring to this place as Oz.
he can make the Sabbath more entertaining there
showing your roots Liz
Not very bright though.
Never lose those roots.
Liz, I find many Australians use British terms (cuppa). I guess because Australia has ties to England.
When I first came here, I found it to be a real mixture of England and America.
interesting Q&A Liz
Perhaps Canada rather than America - especially here reminded me of Vancouver - mountains and ocean.
Not big mountains though.
I like that joke that Jilli sent me .. where the British guy was in line at Customs in Australia and the clerk asked him if he had a criminal record of any kind.. and his response was I didn't know that was still a requirement to get into Australia any more :D
I like that.
I like that too. Especially since America seems to be noted as the land of gangs and guns.
Sad to have that reputation. I enjoyed my trips to America.
Except for LAX airport!
we have far, far too many guns here in america
LAX is awful
Burbank is an easier airport liz
Do you think the gun laws will ever change.
And yet there is gun crime in other countries as well.
No choice when we flew through LAX - when my dad was dying it was the only flight we could get back to the UK.
Back soon - need to hang washing out.
I don't know liz.. I really hope so.. I'm tired of reading about more people killed accidently with firearms
there are many countries molly that have greatly reduced gun crime.. the guns are not that accessible
I wish we had a more rigorous process to screen people for guns
Well, let's see. We will have to get rid of the internet, because guns are readily available on black market sites for people in any country.
As are materials for making bombs. And other such awful things.
You'll never get rid of the internet and it's sad how such a useful tool is misused by so many.
I agree Liz. The misuse is appalling.
Not only for what is posted but, and here's a touchy subject, for who people masquerade as.
I hate not being able to find simple 5 letter words :(
The masquerade thing is one of the most unfortunate things about the internet. Sadly, forums that are not monitored well (only allowing one IP address per user) suffer from that problem.
There are too many vulnerable people out there and then of course there are the gullible ones too - but they're often just kind people who believe everything that is written on the internet.
I think there is a difference between vulnerable and gullible though the ed4s can become blurred.
It is unfortunate that there are those who will believe anything they read on the internet and then act on that. I have seen that turn into sad circumstances many times.
A good dose of cynicism should be handed out at birth :)
I don't know. Is it cynicism or just common sense? I see people fall for things on the internet that make me wonder...I mean really wonder if they have any common sense at all.
Perhaps a mixture of both - but think and question what you read. There are also good myth debunking sites.
I think that the age of computers probably developed so quickly that some people just don't know how easy it is to set up a new IP address or to post something and claim it's true.
There are myth debunking sites. Unfortunately, they don't deal with the myth makers who post fake personalities on the internet.
That's very true.
Nice to chat - it's been very quiet here recently.
This site is a perfect example. You can register here with multiple user names and multiple email addresses. Which is why there have been so many "fake" people here.
I don't have a problem with people playing (if that's what they are genuinely doing) under different names, nor do I have a problem with trolls (just ignore them - don't rise to the bait of some of the nasty things said) I do have a problem with people who try to take advantage of others.
Agreed on all points. And if anyone is wondering why chat has gotten so quiet lately, it might be because there are people who are trying to take advantage of others. Sadly, in a forum that is not moderated, there is no way to stop that.
Fireworks - and appropriately enough my last word was si 6/21
