1:55 am

1:56 am

I enlisted Tim's help to get Caya's room ready for her tomorrow. Since I am gonna drive and pick her up. He wasn't happy, but he will vacuum and mop. She is allergic to dust, so it has to be very clean.

2:03 am

and today he has to do the grocery shopping. Won't hurt him to put in a bit of help here :)

2:04 am

good on you. i hope he realises that it's about time he started doing a little more around the house.

2:05 am

I have decided I don't care anymore. Either he does it with a smile or he does it in a bad mood. But he will do it.

2:05 am

good. also good attitude for you to take. believe me later in life his partner will thank you.

2:06 am

TY Ruby

7:53 am

struggling with the castrated rooster

7:54 am

story of my life, ruby...

7:54 am

;)

7:54 am

apparently originates for the french word for house

add the comparative affix to the rooster and plural

7:55 am

hi Eva & Byz

7:55 am

ty byz and lynxx but >Fr house??? and LOL eva

7:55 am

ca5/14 then add to it

7:55 am

good morning, all!

7:56 am

ca5/14: hat + not off

7:56 am

how are you feeling, Eva?

7:57 am

not getting the ir7, just keep thinking irregular

7:57 am

You're due next month Eva?

7:57 am

feeling rather pregnant these days! hehe

7:57 am

start with ir4 household chore

7:57 am

really?? You haven't lost your sense of humor

7:58 am

actually, other than small things like feeling heavy, occasional swelling + being out of breath, im actually feeling pretty darned good.

7:58 am

yes, bichin. due 9/26.

7:58 am

ahah! conceiver on New Years' Eve!

7:59 am

i think he was a unexpected christmas gift. ;)

8:00 am

I know so many people with "Holiday" birthdays

8:00 am

hubbys bday is 9/16 -- hes hoping baby boy comes a littl early. ;)

8:01 am

That would be another gift!

8:01 am

Ruby! The castrated rooster is what you left out in the yard for weeks after Christmas.

8:01 am

im generally on the "let baby bake as long as possible" side... but baby is a big boy, so a little early wouldnt be horrible. ;)

8:02 am

Poor Eva. This is horrible weather to be big and pregnant in.

8:03 am

How did you remember that, Molly? I thought of you the moment I typed it in!

8:03 am

not getting the ir7. got the ir4/4.

8:04 am

doctor has put him in the 90-95th percentile for size. ::slightly terrified::

8:04 am

ir7 ends like the awards for theatre

8:04 am

sue, you need to make a spiral after the ir4 and start from the lower one

8:05 am

How much did you weigh, Eva?

8:06 am

i dont know how much i weighed when i was born. after i found that out, i asked MIL how much hubby weighed. she CLAIMS she doesnt remember. which i take to mean "he was huge, but i dont want to scare you."

8:06 am

ends like little horses

8:07 am

ty so much for the ir7 clues

8:07 am

my fingers hurt

8:07 am

nbt/nbs, need a break , bbl

8:08 am

poor Eva! My ob/gyn thought I had miscalculated because I didn't gain enough weight, but the baby was 3 weeks late, very skinny and had a very big head

8:08 am

I was Lucky I insisted on getting started, but that was back in the stone age

8:10 am

i may end up having to have a c-section. they are going to do an internal examination on me at my next sono appt (in 4 weeks) "to determine whether the tunnel is large enough to let the train through" if not, they wont even bother putting me in that position + will just schedule me. if they think i AM appropriate anatomied, they *might* induce me a few days early...

8:10 am

That sounds like a practical plan

8:11 am

i agree. there are pros + cons both ways, so i just want whatever is gonna be best for el bebe.

8:12 am

and on that note, i must rush off to a mtng. back later!

8:12 am

bye

8:21 am

173 and I give up! Molly, did the package ever arrive?

8:22 am

If not, that's the second time I've had that problem; usually, it's US customs

8:25 am

bye

9:16 am

if it starts with the same three letters as the in 5 and 6 i do have it as i have tried other vowel endings but they are not working

9:16 am

Since there are two i's next to each other, it's difficult to figure out which one is from the second one

9:17 am

i agree, everytime i think one comes from that it turns out not to be the case

9:18 am

in + vowel + a camp ****

9:19 am

3:40 pm

I'd like to grow my own but i can't at the moment.Maybe when my back garden gets done so i can get into it on my own then i will try and grow peas

3:41 pm

Are they easy Glant?

3:41 pm

I'm having a problem swallowing the p's in this grid.

3:41 pm

Problem is, i won't be tall enough to pick them :)

3:42 pm

lol Hego

3:42 pm

Peas are really easy and I grow mine in plastic sacks on patio slabs. They may get mildew but the ps/po4 are fine to eat anyways

3:43 pm

so in compost bags Glant?

3:43 pm

I just use a variety called Oregon something or other, push them an inch into the co mpost, add some netting for them to scrable up and ignore them other than watering every couple of days

3:43 pm

Yes, just standard cheap compost

3:44 pm

and they don't grow too tall to pick LOL, that's the runner beans...

3:44 pm

oh, i thought they had to planted in the ground and then have loads of canes this and that way

3:44 pm

I must be thinking of runner beans

3:45 pm

Pe 8? Anyone?

3:45 pm

I still need midget peas as i can't reach very far in my chair or if it's on my back patio, on my bum as i can't get my chair onto it

3:46 pm

runner beans need taller canes but I grow those in plastic sacks on patio too - ideally 'wigwam' canes but mine do fine just ckimbong roundnwhatever I have LOL

3:46 pm

don't have the PE8 yet, sorrry

3:46 pm

My mange tout are all at lower than 2'6"

3:46 pm

pe8 is an Italian cheese

3:47 pm

Rats! ty anyway. :)

3:47 pm

Oh! ty Lill.

3:47 pm

ty lil

3:48 pm

didn't know you could spell that with an i at the end

3:48 pm

Oh, thanks for that Glant. When i eventually get my back garden wheelchair friendly i will grow them in bags or pots against my fence and then i can add some canes

3:49 pm

I must admit i thought it was an o

3:49 pm

I only grow easy stuff. Blueberries are fab, but you do have to plant them in ericaceous compost

3:49 pm

Does anybody watch the Great British Bake Off?

3:49 pm

Ybw

3:50 pm

I love that show.

3:50 pm

prefer Masterchef LOL

3:50 pm

Yes, the bairn and i love it.She loves to bake

3:50 pm

I like that too Glant

3:50 pm

eosis

3:50 pm

It's so entertaining.

3:51 pm

good job that was a monkey

3:51 pm

Even if you don't bake it's fun.

3:51 pm

I have 2 tubs with Blueberries and they are in just normal compost and mine grow well every year, maybe because i over feed them :)

3:52 pm

They like acidity

3:54 pm

I grow tomatoes, salad leaves, strawberries and have an apple tree and a plum tree in pots but i also have redcurrant and black currant bushes, but we're digging them up and raspberry canes

3:55 pm

Lill, I'm impressed.

3:55 pm

I'll have to get some ericaceous soil for next year then, but as i say mine do well.Maybe it's the different feeds i give them

3:55 pm

raspberry canes are great, if you choose your varieties carefully you can have them fruiting from June to October

3:57 pm

I added blood fish and bone to ev erything in May (and will do again in leter August) and am amazed at how some things have come on as a result. Fruiting things have been given Tomorite and are also doing well.

3:58 pm

The bairn cut them right down a few weeks ago as she is clearing everything so i can get my garden right, bless her.I should have had it done a couple of years ago but the guy who was suppose to do my garden couldn't do it in the end and then the money we had for it ended up having to go towards other things!

3:58 pm

Most of what I grow is n't easily available in shops or is expensive in shops but is easy to grow. Try chard, it's lovely, leaves are like spinach and stems are lovely cut up into inch pieces and gently cooked in butter

3:58 pm

Don't be Hego, lots of fruit and veg can be grown in tubs, if watered and fed regularly

4:00 pm

Yes, I have grown some things in tubs.

4:00 pm

My whole garedn is in tbs. I didn't realise how many I had until the 8 year old grandboy tols me I had 'plant issues' and 'a problem' last week when he realsied I have 113 pots in my garden LOL

4:00 pm

Mostly herbs so they don't take over the place.

4:01 pm

They are all around the perimiters so don't look so many LOL

4:01 pm

My mam said that i should use fish blood Glant as she hasn't had to water her tubs as much this year and all her plants have gone potty.I will try it next year.I just wish i could get into my back garden without relying on someone pushing me, and even then it isn't easy as the ground is uneven and we live on a hill

4:01 pm

OMG Glant! How do you keep track of all that?

4:03 pm

Hego, it is easy, I water them daily, usually first thing in the morning, it takes less than 10 minutes and it kinds keeps me in touch with nature :-)

4:03 pm

Good job!

4:03 pm

WOW Glant! 113!! I have 50 and a hanging basket in my front garden and about 8 in the back and i thought i was overkill...so the bairn tells me! :)

4:04 pm

I put the bone fish blood on by scattering handfuls and watering it in, supposed to be in April and August, I have quite a few shrubs and Acers in pots and it saves repotting

4:05 pm

But i like to potter in teh garden when i'm able, plus i love looking out the window at them...it cheers me up on a bad day

4:05 pm

I have a couple of hanging baskets too :) and they are the hardest things to care for

4:05 pm

I like growing herbs too Hego

4:07 pm

I love my garden. I wish we could post photos. There are some pics here - https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1656380\n?preview

4:08 pm

I have some animal shaped planters made out of whicker(i think) and i have a bicycle shaped one(metal), plus i have a couple of childrens like scare crows and some coloured metal birds that i put in between pots just for fun

4:08 pm

I have a lovely Bay tree in a nice pot. It was discussing gthe difficulties of repotting that with the nursery lady that led me to the blood fish bine

4:08 pm

bbiam

4:14 pm

am back.My meighbour has a bay tree, but i think his in a border.

4:16 pm

I have some type of tree growing in a tub but i didn't grow or plant it.I thought it looked like an olive tree and my next door neighbour thought the same.I haven't a clue where it's come from.Must be a pollinating seed

4:16 pm

If you make ice cream, in a good french vanilla recipe, swap the vanilla for infusing the milk with two crushed fresh bay leaves. It is gorgeous, and peple love it but can't identify it. The Victorians used Bay for sweet and savoury dishes but we onloy seem to use it for savoury these days

4:17 pm

Your olive tree may turn out ot be a kind of willow. My neighbour has a self planted willow, sanme leaf shape as an olive, but a much brighter gree,

4:18 pm

and his is now 12 ft tall....

4:21 pm

The leaves aren't bright, they're olive coloured :)

4:21 pm

in teresting

4:22 pm

If it turns out to be an olive, you should wrap it in a few layers of bubble wrap in winter (pot and all) to protect it

4:22 pm

Oh my. I can't believe the chat is about gardening.... Son of Soodle took a week off work to (a) attend the Galway Races & (b) cut my hedges. (A) was accomplished. (B) is a work in progress. So far he has cut 3/4 of my hedges down... To the ground! I'm a bit gobsmacked.

4:23 pm

Hi Soodle. Gardening is better than politics LOL

4:24 pm

Glan..... My days of political comment are over.... LOL

4:24 pm

"i am down to 110 and cant find any new words at the moment :-

4:25 pm

did you get into trouble for political comment LOL

4:25 pm

Sorry, was helping the bairn put the bins out for tomorrow...she doesn't like the dark!

4:25 pm

:)

4:26 pm

Hi Soods :)

4:26 pm

ooh, just found the small american coin

4:27 pm

Not necessarily political comment, Glan, just comment in general... Hi ((( Lili)))

4:27 pm

ouch, sorry to hear that soodle

4:28 pm

I stopped babbling for a while because I didn't like the way the chat was at that time

4:29 pm

Ah... I'm outspoken! I'm used to taking the consequences....

4:29 pm

Glant, i ve had that plant/tree for a couple of years now...it doesn't seem to do much but it grows. We're not allowed to talk about cat and dogs anymore Glant

4:29 pm

I prefeer that we can be honest and acceot the differing views of others

4:30 pm

cats and dogs?

4:30 pm

really? So where does that leave Ruby LOL?

4:32 pm

I love chatting to people on here but at times it can get immense.Soodle, there's nowt wrong with being you, i like you! :D

4:32 pm

I like you too Soodle LOL

4:35 pm

I've got myself in trouble here at times! everyone here has to remember that we're all different, we live in different countries, we have our own cultures, ethics, we're not always going to get long but sometimes people make it harder for us to chat and have fun. We're alive, we should have fun and laugh and just chill at times without getting to serious!

4:36 pm

Glan, Lilli, after a particularly unpleasant altercation here on Babble last week, I got 15 emails & 6 private FB messages, all telling me that they had stopped chatting on Babble because of the negative influence of one particular person. What a shame one person can deprive so many others of a simple pleasure like Babble.

4:37 pm

The chat on Iron Sudoku has beccme very political, with entrenched views on US issues. Difficukt.

4:38 pm

Phew!! Glad I'm not a Sudoku person!!

4:38 pm

I was on the same night Soodle and also said something and i know who you are talking about which is why i said what i said at 4.35

4:38 pm

I am so sorry to hear that Soodle. I stopped babbling for ages when something happened with NegativeNeil and although I never knew what he sent me wierd private messgaes wanting support...

4:39 pm

I am so sorry to hear that Soodle. I stopped babbling for ages when something happened with NegativeNeil and although I never knew what he sent me wierd private messgaes wanting support...

4:39 pm

AND NOW I AM SPEAKING DOUBLE lol

I was here Soodle and appreciated your statements. I don't mind reading different/opposing positions. What irks me is the condescension and massive generalizations (e.g Everybody who voted for Obama is an Idiot!)

4:39 pm

Which is why i never talk about politics or religion...too many arguments...I get enough from the bairn tyvm...i don't need more from hee when i come here to chill

4:41 pm

I think everybody is entitled to their opinion. Expressed politely.

4:42 pm

I agree, that everyone is entitled to their opinion, i just can't do with nastiness at times

4:42 pm

Nastiness is always bad. People should respect the differneces of opinion.

Yes,,. we can disagree and still be respectful (well most of us can lol)

4:44 pm

If they actually considered the differences of opinion, they could actually revise their own opinions in the light of new in formation.

4:44 pm

or maybe not, depending on who they are :)

4:45 pm

I never said anything when Negative Neil was on. For a long time I thought he was another negative person who left but came back as Neil.

4:47 pm

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I will defend everybody's right to express their opinion. It's when people are belittled for their opinion that I get angry.

4:47 pm

maybe he did, but i had stopped babbling by then

4:47 pm

well put Soodle

4:47 pm

yup

4:47 pm

Negative Neil.....I'm thinking, that might have been when i was away for over a year

4:48 pm

me too

4:48 pm

only been back a month or two

4:50 pm

Grr! I'm getting annoyed again!! I think I'll do everybody a favour & take myself off to bed!! (((Glan, Lilli, Bugs,)))

4:51 pm

Night Soodle, sorry if I brought annoyance up again. Sleep well.#

4:51 pm

I'm doing a wheelie in your honour Soods! :D

4:51 pm

Sorry if I offended in any way Soodle. REst well

4:51 pm

stuck on pr 7 /32 ?? my monkey is getting bitchy... must be the heat

4:51 pm

Ha ha ha

4:51 pm

"wheeeeeeeeeeeee"

4:52 pm

I'm even doing a handstand whilst doing a wheelie....wheeeeeeeeee :D

4:53 pm

i wanna SEE that lil

4:53 pm

Night (((Soods))), sweet dreams hin and tc.

4:53 pm

so do I

4:53 pm

It'll cost ya Sammy :D

4:54 pm

don't have the pr7 yet, sorry

4:54 pm

pr7`pr5 just above + I like apple p**

4:54 pm

I don't have it yet Sammy, sorry

4:55 pm

Sammy, what is that, that your great grand children are sat in?

4:56 pm

Ty Une :)

4:56 pm

thanks uni would have had to have ahd a beer before i got that one

4:56 pm

yw :-)

4:56 pm

my monkeys found it earlier today LOL

4:56 pm

it is a cart they they use at the cleveland zoo.... wish it were big enough for me

4:59 pm

i wish i understood any of the clues :-)

4:59 pm

I wonder if i could get one and then attach it to the bairn's bike and she could tow me all over :) I'm loving the room in it, as i could curl up and have a duvet and pillow and be quite happy and still get fresh air!

4:59 pm

glan LOL

4:59 pm

sounds great, lill!!

5:00 pm

would not use it at the zoo tho...... i will never go ta azoo again

5:00 pm

:)

5:02 pm

I used to work for the UK version of the ASPCA (or whatever it is called) and cannot go to zoos because I am unable to accept why we have to keep animals captive just so we can look at them

5:02 pm

zoos make me sad . . .

5:03 pm

I don't think they are so m uch captive now as they were, i think they are now the only means of breeding to get animals back int he wild because of all the natural habitat being destroyed and animals killed for food/medicene and pet trade

5:04 pm

so maybe that makes me radical. I went to a sea zoo in Portugal (with work) and I cried the whiole time I watched the 'performing' dolphins because i know that they need a range of hundreds of miles of ocean to be happy and heakthy, and were resticted to pools

5:04 pm

that's the way i feel too... i took my kids to the zoo 40 years ago and was so distraught that i have never gone again

5:04 pm

I can't understand people buying a monkey for a pet...do they not realize that the mam has been killed so they can have a baby

5:04 pm

It was sadder when they kept whales in tiny pools

5:05 pm

both orca and dolphins and sealions are still kept in small pools. and they are all such intelligent creatures. so veey sad

5:06 pm

they didn't even know what the whales needed to eat when they captured them!

5:06 pm

captivity... the money should

5:06 pm

But, saying that, alot of the zoos around the world should be closed, as they don't care about the animals or breeding and getting them back into the wild

5:06 pm

all that bfreeding an releasing nonsense is actually BS

5:06 pm

too true lilliann. I believe in sanctuaries for breeding

5:07 pm

they keep the animals because iot makes money

5:07 pm

instead of spending money to keep animals in captivity.. the mlney should be spent to keep their habitats open and available for therm. if friggin idiikts ""HAVE"" to see wild animals, then s\they should spend the money to go and see them where they live

5:08 pm

Yes zoos don't need to breed and let people stare at them in pens. Let them live in huge acreage sanctuaries where they can live and breed as they like in safety from men.

5:08 pm

if breeding was the prioirty, why not just get on with that, and not put them forward for public nentertainment]

5:08 pm

true g,an wjis is another exaample of what friggin fools we hemans are

5:08 pm

snap, Glantarell

5:09 pm

Not all of them. But they have to get money somehow to feed the animals.Monkey world take in alot of monkeys which have been abused but they also breed to get them back int he wild and also put money back into countries to keep these animals int he wild

5:11 pm

animals are sentient. they have feelings as well as needs. we should move our efforts towards supporting them inn their natural environemtns. And help the rescuenanimals (such as those nin monkey world) accordibng to rehabilitation where possible,m and support where not

5:11 pm

clue for pe 8 please

5:12 pm

sorry Nancy

5:12 pm

pe8 a kind of italian cheese, but neds in i not o

5:12 pm

The problem is Sammy, a lot of the animals habitats are being taken away because of mans' greed and people wanting to live,so where do these animals go to. If we don't breed some of these animals, they will be extinct in years to come, some in a few years. I don't agree with cages, but i do agree with parks that have alot of space for these animals.

5:12 pm

ends

5:13 pm

thanks Glant

5:14 pm

lilliann if the population of a species drops below 500, it doesn't matter what we do, they will become extinct.

5:15 pm

And, if they are bred, how can they be released into the wild as captives who do not know how to hunt or surrvive?

5:16 pm

true lil, i have first hand knowledge of the problems with animals in our living areas.. every timer ther city rips out another few acres of land to build houses which no one wants anyway, more deer, foxe, groundhods, squirrels, raccoons, etc, move into our living areas... i can t even use my back yard any more because of the deer shit and fleas and ticks from them.

5:16 pm

glan, tyvm, got it

5:17 pm

bottom line... either humans are goint to use the space or the animals are... we cannot live with therm and if anyone thinks we can they are idiots

5:17 pm

Are you not able to put upmdeer-proof frncing, Sammmysmom?

5:17 pm

I agree with what you said Glantat 5.11, but at the end of the day, it's our fault these animals don't have their own habitat and can't breed and are being killed for their furs, for pets and medicene

5:18 pm

I'm not arguing with you Glant by the way:)

5:18 pm

yes, agreed

5:19 pm

no, and i don t think i should have to... when a business buys a property and builds on it, taking care of the wildlife inhabiting that property should be part of the expense of doing business

5:19 pm

I worked for the RSPCA for 9 years :-) and understand the issues

5:20 pm

i am getting off my soap bod... this issue is too upsetting for me.

5:20 pm

soap box

5:20 pm

anyways, I am down to 100, and have 3 little people to care for early tomorrow, so have to go to bed, night all

5:21 pm

nite glantarell

5:21 pm

I'm now doing a head stand on my scooter....WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

5:22 pm

Night Glant,Sweet dreams.tc hin

5:22 pm

yay lil

5:23 pm

There's a small zoo near me; the entrance is free. They have a few of the larger animals (big cats, giraffes, etc.). Mostly they have smaller animals. All the habitats are interesting for the animals. The animals are often rotated to sanctuaries. Some are older animals and seem to enjoy being fed regularly and cared for (and about). Of course, I can't say for sure, but I think this zoo does good stuff. And most zoos (in this country) have moved far away from the small "cages" and unnatural habitats. Yes, I understand the animals are not "free to roam", but they are also protected from poachers and sometimes awful suffering. It's a trade-off. We're getting better at how we treat the other creatures on this planet. We still have a way to go, but I have hope.

5:24 pm

I'm very proud of the Elephant Sanctuary we have here in Tennessee :-)

5:25 pm

https://www.elephants.com

5:26 pm

Well said Java.In your country and mine and also around the world, we are getting better and at the end of the day we need to learn from these animals as in their food, needs, habitat, viruses etc

5:27 pm

The elephant sanctuary is wonderful!

5:27 pm

ditto, lilliann

5:27 pm

But alot of places around the world need to be shut down as they don't care for the animals and it is just money making.

5:28 pm

very true

5:30 pm

When i see programmes with holiday makers having photos with a monkey next to them or on their lap..."i'm like, what are you doing?" this is a wild animal for one and not a show piece and 2 if it bites you, well, it's your own fault"

5:30 pm

I also know about an alligator (and related species) sanctuary in Florida. My nephew rescued a caiman from a pet store and brought it to the sanctuary.

5:32 pm

and it's not just monkeys, it's all sorts of animals.I understand people are very poor and need money but i don't think that as tourists we should be promoting this as the more people do it these people will get away with having illegal animals and mistreating them!

5:32 pm

Good for him Java

5:33 pm

impressive, java

5:34 pm

did not understand ther clue for pe 8 50 ?

5:35 pm

google this: a dry, hard Italian cheese made of ewe's milk, especially Romano

5:35 pm

Off my soap box now :)

5:36 pm

I salute you and your soapbox!!

5:36 pm

50 to go and taking a break -- later, all! :-)

5:37 pm

thanks une... got it this time

5:37 pm

13 left so bye Une and tc hin :)

5:37 pm

Thanks; he was 11 or 12 at the time. He raised enough money to buy the caiman, and his mom and he drove there from Alabama. I was very proud of him (and I still have the t-shirt I bought to help out)

5:41 pm

Wow, Java.No wonder you're proud. What a great thing for him to do.How old is he now?

5:41 pm

Lilliann, I'm so glad you get to express a somewhat controversial opinion about something without people having a go at you. We should be able to talk like adults here.

5:42 pm

He's 16? (I'm guessing, but I don't think he has his driver's license yet)

5:43 pm

He's a pretty special kid. He's dyslexic, and will tell you what that means to him. (His mom's pretty special, too)

5:44 pm

es8 and first in7 please?

5:45 pm

haven

5:46 pm

haven ... mmmm... is that the es or the in?

5:46 pm

haven't listed yet, so I can't help...and haven isn't in the grid - that was an "oops" as I hit "enter" instead of the apostrophe

5:47 pm

es and another pl letter and not day

5:47 pm

oh -- LOL! I did list, and of course the final 6 are ones that (trolling the chat log) no one else has asked for. ..... because clearly, you are all smarter than I am! ;)

5:49 pm

I doubt that, ch1212, just smarter monkeys, or faster on the keyboard, or, as in my case, not smart enough to know what I don't have yet (grin)

5:49 pm

in,vowel and somewhere where houses are built or a camping ****

5:50 pm

Thank you so much, lilli. I don't recall seeing that word before.

5:51 pm

Molly, Maybe because i say it nicely and don't want to wind people up.I'm allowed my opinion but i just don't want to fight over it.There are ways of saying things without causing arguments.

5:51 pm

Yw Ch12

5:56 pm

Writing your opinion is very difficult. When you're speaking face-to-face, it's easier because the other person (or people) can see your facial expression or body language. Writing, (especially without a sarcasm font) and getting the right tone, is extremely hard.

5:56 pm

Still looking for a clue for that elusive es8 Both good points, lilli and java.

5:57 pm

es: boy child + alternate spelling for "not day"

5:57 pm

ch12, i clued it at 5.47, did you not understand it? if not i'll re-clue it

5:57 pm

good evening, everyone :)

5:58 pm

Hi Crossy

5:59 pm

Jeopardy time!

5:59 pm

Very true Java and plus not everyone can take sarcasm...my bairn can't! :)

5:59 pm

ah.... I missed that. Thank you again lilli!

6:00 pm

Yw Ch12

6:01 pm

hi crossy! Well, that's fireworks for me. Can I assist anyone with clues before I scoot out the door?

6:01 pm

Well, as the saying goes...Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!

6:03 pm

WTG Ch12!! :)

6:04 pm

I only have a few left so i'll plod along, but thanks Ch12

6:05 pm

I just looked up 'what is sarcasm' and up popped a number of psychologist's explanations. One says sarcasm is hostility disguised as humor. Another writes, "Sarcasm is simply a way of covering contempt or hate." I confess, the times I've used sarcasm have been the result of my anger and sense of helplessness. When I've been the recipient of sarcasm, it usually feels like I'm being put down or shamed.

6:06 pm

Probably a good idea generally to avoid it where possible, particularly if the general consensus is that people respond in a negative way to it.

6:07 pm

I would tend to agree as well, Ch1212 :)

6:07 pm

That said, I think we (all of us babblers) are a generally positive lot! :) And on that happy note, I'll sign off until tomorrow !

6:09 pm

The thing is, that the majority of people around the world use sarcasm....It's not always meant to be nasty, it's how the person on the receiving end takes it!

6:09 pm

ava is that boy child opposite of not daughter?

6:10 pm

I think alot of us do it, without even thinking about it :)

6:10 pm

Night Ch12, tc hin

6:11 pm

I have tried to cull much of it out of my life and the way I speak with people--especially on the computer where one cannot hear tone, inflection, or see facial expressions.

6:11 pm

evening all! can I have stats only for the f word that's not the skull cover?

6:12 pm

I spelled it wrong never mind

6:12 pm

hi dan

6:12 pm

6:12 pm

6:12 pm

6:12 pm

ah duh tx cross

6:12 pm

damn, sorry, dan, I missed the stats only

6:13 pm

np it was a fish

6:14 pm

Exactly Crossy. It is so different when you speak to people on a computor as we can't see faces, lips move etc.I can't hear so when i see someone, i want to see their lips move even if i don't understand what they are saying.

6:14 pm

Hi Mlf

6:14 pm

Hi Dan

7:00 pm

Hi Jaxx

7:00 pm

yes liz, and thus far all is good for monday admission

7:00 pm

Good - why would there be problems?

7:00 pm

thanx jaxx. and hello honey

7:01 pm

7:01 pm

Hi ((rose))

7:02 pm

hmmmm war is a good word but not what i meant to say. please read.... ward ...

7:02 pm

Definitely don't need gastro problems :( Hope it clears up quickly.

7:03 pm

Ah, Rose, what operation are you having, i hope nothing too serious?

7:03 pm

My mam is going into hospital on Monday too

7:04 pm

ca7, head wear + anagram of horse leash

7:04 pm

Thanks :)

7:04 pm

Rose,I am holding your hand still. I need the comfort as well. After endometrial cancer it looks asif I could have cancer of the colon. I am 'fast tracked' for an examination of said area next Thursday.

7:04 pm

Are you having a quiet day today?

7:05 pm

Ah ok, well i hope it all goes well and you're pain free after

7:05 pm

Oh Jaxx!

7:05 pm

oh jaxx, what rotten news. holding your hand tightly sweetie.

7:06 pm

I am beginning to wish I had never gone to that well woman clinic. I have been ill ever since.

7:06 pm

hmmm, it is our church's community 'drop-in' day and i am supposed to be there. if i go nothing physical i can tell you that much.

7:06 pm

Hoping for the best news for you, Jaxx

7:06 pm

But you can't keep your feet up!

7:07 pm

Oh Jaxx. We're here for you hin.I have my fingers crossed and sending you loads of hugs and good wishes.

7:07 pm

i could take my collapseable stool with me i think

7:07 pm

One good thing I can now get my shoes on as my foot infection hasgone and my feet areno longer so swollen.

7:08 pm

You must do what's right for you, Rose. If you think you'll be OK, then good. Otherwise give it a miss.

7:08 pm

atta girl, find something positive to smile about. it is one way to cope with the ugly stuff.

7:08 pm

Finally finished the c's!

7:09 pm

yay for you liz

7:09 pm

Not finding this grid easy :(

7:09 pm

My mam is having a tumour removed from her saliva gland on monday, saying that it is the whole saliva gland as they can't remove the tumour seperately, so i have fingers crossed and prayers for her too...

7:09 pm

It started off so well!

7:09 pm

first en 6 please?

7:09 pm

Best wishes and hopes for your mum, too, Lil.

7:09 pm

7:10 pm

Don't have it yet, nan

7:10 pm

The space bar on my PC is sticking, hence all the joined up words. My grandson's contribution methinks. he will eat snacks while using it.

7:10 pm

Have a good day Rose - hugs to you both.

7:10 pm

You'll get through it Jaxx :)

7:10 pm

ta liz. byeee

7:10 pm

7:10 pm

Looking for that en 6 now.

7:11 pm

Tc Liz, sending hugs your way :)

7:11 pm

e + not yes + not bro....

7:11 pm

7:11 pm

ty liz

7:12 pm

7:12 pm

Or me penliz

7:12 pm

going to take a break and produce some dinner -- not seeing anything at the moment anyway

7:12 pm

*I meant tc Rose

7:12 pm

Oh - still, wishes to sleep well when you do!

7:13 pm

My siser has a salivary gland that was sqeezed many years ago to get rid of stones. Now she has problems with trigeminal neuralgia and the gland is so damaged that they can't operate. Taking the whole thing out seems a good idea to me, lilli

7:13 pm

Hmmm! Never realised you could pluralise that eye infection,

7:13 pm

me neither Liz

7:13 pm

I am plugging along here, 82 left

7:14 pm

18 here

7:14 pm

29...

7:14 pm

29 was where I started this morning.

7:15 pm

I still have 95 left but I am really tired so I am off to my bed. Night all and take care

7:15 pm

Sleep well and hugs to you.

7:15 pm

nite jaxx

7:15 pm

How Dorens finished so quickly yesterday, I can't imagine!

7:16 pm

I can't either, lickety was not even up yet

7:17 pm

They don't know if it is malignant yet Jaxx, until they take it out and take a piece and i can't remember the word for what they do, but the doctor siad he could remove all of it and don't worry as she would still have spit...lol.I think he's from Belgium and my parents live in France. They get operated alot quicker than we do here

7:17 pm

I'm in awe of so many of our babblers, who finish so quickly.

7:17 pm

Night Jaxx, tc hin.Hugs

7:20 pm

I agree. It's hard to imagine someone finishing a 266 word grid in 14 minutes with no Lickety.

7:21 pm

:)

7:21 pm

there are a few words that are new to me

7:21 pm

Me too

7:22 pm

Molly I loved your clue for the pe8. it is actually a hard cheese made from sheep's milk

7:23 pm

I found that from Molly's clue, though I thought the cheese ended in o

7:23 pm

Oh thanks, it just made me think of a pasta loving muscle guy. : D

7:23 pm

it also ends in o Liz

7:23 pm

It made me laugh - and that's a hard thing to do first thing in the morning!

7:25 pm

Laughing is good. Glad the clue put you in a positive mind frame.

7:25 pm

Definitely a good way to start the day :)

7:25 pm

Especially after being woken at 5 am by a barking dog.

7:26 pm

I don't understand how babblers here finish so quickly, even with expert....i want their brains! :)

7:26 pm

I finish quicker now than I did - certainly regularly playing helps.

7:27 pm

it sure does Liz

7:27 pm

I was the same with the cheese, i thought it ended in o.

7:28 pm

Fireworks. My last 5 x s and t words were really obvious. Must've been very tired last night.

7:28 pm

congrats Liz

7:28 pm

Perhaps there's another version of that cheese in the USA?

7:28 pm

Thanks. I have to go - challah just about ready to go into the oven. Enjoy your evenings / nights.

7:28 pm

it is spelled both ways. I think one may be a pl

7:29 pm

That sounds quite likely peri - good thought.

7:29 pm

Aye, i suppose the more you're on here but there are alot more odd words added every day, depending on the grid!

7:29 pm

Yay!! Liz.Tc hin

7:30 pm

i am done...

7:30 pm

266 words in 14 minutes is a great typing speed and no down time to even think about the difficult words.

7:31 pm

Yay Pen!! :)

7:32 pm

ty!

7:32 pm

19 words a minute would be astounding in babble!

7:32 pm

how big was yesterday's puzzle?

7:33 pm

i thought someone said that that feat was achieved with yesterday's puzzle...

7:33 pm

I tip my cap to those who can sustain a word finding speed like that. :)

7:34 pm

No, today, right after the flip (at 12:14) Dorens said she was done. Super Babble genius.

7:34 pm

wow....

7:47 pm

T's trounced!

7:48 pm

thought that was rather remarkable as well -- 266 words in 14 minutes and some of them are pretty obscure

7:48 pm

and on that note .... es 8 please?

7:49 pm

es an pl letter and not day

7:50 pm

that's only 7 letters?

7:51 pm

sorry, that's wrong,es, pl ,vowel and not day

7:51 pm

7:51 pm

i am off....goodnight all....

8:21 pm

hello stid!!!

8:21 pm

hi folks - late start here, but will do what i can

8:21 pm

hi stid and welki

8:22 pm

BUGS!!!!!!! ((((hugs bugs)))) I LOVED the pics you sent of your kitchen. I adore the wall color. :-)

8:22 pm

hello ladies

8:22 pm

hi bugs

8:22 pm

thanks stid. It was the second try. the first one was too red but I really like how soft this terra cotta is.

8:23 pm

se7/32.....clue please

8:23 pm

I agree. It would go well with my floors... LOL but my Swedish Tom likes white walls I think. He "deals" with it when I paint colors on walls, but the white everywhere look definitely doesn't bother him the way it does me! :-)

8:24 pm

aeb: snake

8:24 pm

(was thinking snake fish, but that would be an eel... LOL)

8:24 pm

Mr Bugs is a Swede and only likes white but I don't care. He is colour blind so I have final say on colour.

8:25 pm

first in 7 please?

8:25 pm

LOL my Tom's dad is red-green deficient... partly why we painted our house blue, gray, and white. I knew he would be able to appreciate it.

8:25 pm

ty stid.....don't know why I couldn't find it for 25 minutes?

8:26 pm

I get word-blind in grids like this, aeb. If I go away for a while usually a few more show up. But not today, it seems.

8:26 pm

yes, this is an annoying grid

8:27 pm

okay, found 5 more. I think I am justified in listing. :-) brb

8:29 pm

throwing off cloak of invisibility here ---- hellooooo everyone :-) first in 7 please?

8:29 pm

oooh. got an 8 and a 9! te words

8:30 pm

8:31 pm

thanks for that one, bugs!

8:31 pm

it doesn't have a definition

8:32 pm

okay, just looked at the time. Should take an eyeball break (have been reading and working on the computer all day). Back later to finish *scatters choclits and FRESH BLUEBERRIES from our best bush* *Poof*

8:32 pm

not coming up with anything

8:34 pm

8:34 pm

ty bugs

8:35 pm

I am a lousy cluer

8:35 pm

no - I'm just not seeing anything tonight

8:35 pm

8:36 pm

8:36 pm

I am not any better, bugs! And I just missed Stid!

8:36 pm

Hi, nan, glad you were able to get it!

8:38 pm

8:39 pm

the ending is Bud L*** beer

8:41 pm

Gotta finish and go to bed. Have to be up now at 4:50am to get work ready, and walk to train station about a quarter mile away. But it's good to have a job to go to! So, diving in! *sploosh*

8:41 pm

good attitude about such an early morning Anno

8:41 pm

I am not long for this grid either. Must be up at 05:30 tomorrow for my shift.

8:43 pm

we're so used to getting up at 5, we can't sleep in on the weekends.

8:43 pm

I love retirement

8:44 pm

it has gotten to the point now, that even when i had no schedule, my eyes would pop open at 6 am at the latest

8:44 pm

Good Evening, everyone.

8:44 pm

welcome Nef

8:44 pm

howdy, Nef

8:44 pm

yep - if we make it to retirement, it'll be one of the first things i learn to do. sleep in.

8:44 pm

why is it that now I'm retired my body gets up earlier than my brain?

8:44 pm

Thanks, Bugs, I am very thankful that so much is right in my life. There's a lot of pain and sorrow out there, and I have been touched very lightly in comparison. I have a lot to be grateful for :)

8:45 pm

Hi Bugs, crossy, welki, & JBsAnno

8:45 pm

Hi, crossy! welki! Nef!!

8:45 pm

nice to see you, jb - it's been a while

8:45 pm

and nef :)

8:46 pm

Sometimes I wake up early and think, what can I possibly do at 6 in the morning that can't wait and I roll over and drop off again

8:46 pm

I had last year "off" (read: no job), and though I did enjoy a lot of it, and yes, sleeping in was great, I'm very glad to be working again!

8:46 pm

haha @ Bugs

8:48 pm

Hi, welki! How's it hanging in the north part of North America?

8:49 pm

can't complain - we've had a wet summer, but august will be better. work is busy, some of the kids have come to visit this summer, expecting more next week. it's all good :)

8:49 pm

Bugs, I'd love to fall back asleep; but once I get up & go to the bathroom (anyone else here have that darn "bladder alarm" that wakes you up too early?);DH starts snoring - inspire of his CPAP mask.

8:50 pm

that was in spite

hey all

8:50 pm

owwwwwwl

8:51 pm

Hi TO

8:51 pm

ok, Nef. I admit. When I get up that early it is because my bladder is full and Mr Bugs is snoring so I just find another bed. You caught me

8:51 pm

bladder alarm is just another accoutrement of the golden years - get used to it!

8:51 pm

My 'bladder alarm' has 4 very pointy feet that know just where to land on my tummy. The hungrier she is, the pointier those little paws become!

wellllllllllk hi nef

8:52 pm

TO!!! Still getting around okay on SEPTA? Survive the DNC invasion?

8:52 pm

LOL! All 3 of you made me giggle at that. :-)

yes jb! went down to u of the arts to dance that wednesday. off to musikfest tomorrow

oh my! now I get it!

8:55 pm

LOL, TO! I just saw in Phila Daily News this morning that SEPTA is beginning to repair the stricken passenger cars, and hopes to be back to full strength by October. Yay, more schedule changes!

9:03 pm

9:03 pm

Let's see, nan, that se 6/18 is phonetically like what you would call a trashed house in a nice neighborhood. Or an abandoned factory covered with grafitti

9:03 pm

I just tried to clue it Nef

9:04 pm

um, more info - the part AFTER the se is what I was referring to!

Ca8/9 and te8/9 (the 9's are plurals

9:06 pm

Hi, mkg, there's a te8 and te9 that both begin with a male voice part in a choir, then add the rock ending, and plural for the 9.

9:07 pm

ac 8 is a plural. Clue for ac 7 = sounds like the seed of an oak tree but remove the letter R + rock ending

9:07 pm

Nan, did you get the se6 you were looking for?

9:07 pm

and the ca 8/9 starts out a male chicken +more so

9:08 pm

9:09 pm

LOL, Nef, male chicken +more. That's making me laugh!

9:09 pm

i got the ca 8 and 9 . ty. didnt know that was a male chicken. good to know.

9:10 pm

Hey, mkg, Bugsaw gave you the ac8. Credit where credit is due! :)

9:10 pm

9:10 pm

Well, watching cooking shows the always use ca5s; I thought it was regular hen, but I was told it's a male! ;-)

9:11 pm

9:11 pm

9:11 pm

maybe it should be a "used to be" a male?

9:12 pm

i do need a clue for an i word for the 4th row I. every word i have is from the one above it. ty.

9:13 pm

is 5 is a Japanese immigrant

9:13 pm

ty - miss that one a lot

9:13 pm

niters, JB

9:14 pm

is 5? i thought all those words with with "s" in them. i am stumped.

9:14 pm

9:15 pm

9:16 pm

9:16 pm

9:17 pm

still dont have any words from the i in fourth column first row. any other clues out there? ty

9:17 pm

meg, for that 4th row i, stretch out the metal word to make it a pl (but it won't mean a metal

9:17 pm

pe 8 please?

9:18 pm

still stuck. nothing is working.

9:18 pm

pe 8 = pe + an apple ***e (seed prt) + mart*** drink

9:19 pm

ty - had the first part, so was close

9:19 pm

meg, a column goes up & down, a row goes across. I clued you that 1st column 4th row I

9:20 pm

nef ty for pe 8. got it. but cant get the ni words or a word for the i fourth row. help!!!!!!!!!!!

9:20 pm

who is meg? i am confused.

9:20 pm

oh yes - the lovely cheese I was eating in Italy and dipping in a plum-basalmic sauce

9:20 pm

I don't know if it's my keyboard acting up or my fingers aren't hitting the letters hard enough but I seem to skip letters a lot lately

9:21 pm

there is an i in fourth row that is first column. that is what i need. ty.

9:21 pm

I do too -- tired fingers I think

9:21 pm

or that the touch is different between my laptop and desktop keyboard

9:22 pm

in + vowel + location

9:23 pm

2nd se 6 please?

9:25 pm

mkg, I apologize; You are the person I was talking to. mkg the 1st column 4th row "i" is the word I clued. By stretching out the metal (that comes from the 3rd row i) I meant that you should plural it -- which will take 3 more letters, so it's an ir 7/28

9:27 pm

ir + neuter pronoun + conjugation of to be, then plural

9:28 pm

nan, so far the only se 6 I've found is the se 6/18 se +****-night!

9:29 pm

that must be it -- just have to think of some kind of night that isn't good!

9:30 pm

se + pajama dress spelled wrong?

9:39 pm

not sure id it's the first so7; but it's the first one I've found. It's a military wordier moving troops

10:31 pm

sorry; my fingers aren't working so well tonight

10:33 pm

no worries. My eyes aren't either (spent most of the day reading). Was good to read, but it was all professional stuff. I need to find something fiction that is interesting enough to spend a couple hours on!

10:33 pm

I have family in Missoula which is 50 miles from there; my sister's husband has family in Hamilton. :-(

10:34 pm

What types of fiction do you read?

10:34 pm

historical fiction occasionally; science fiction more often and occasionally fantasy

10:35 pm

oh boy -- are they okay?

10:39 pm

IDK, Missoula is okay; not sure of BIL's family though (my sister hasn't posted anything on them; so maybe no news is good news??

10:40 pm

Assume the best, I think. There would be news otherwise.

10:49 pm

I hope you're right stid. (I was off checking her FB page & didn't see anything)

10:49 pm

I figured. (((hugs))) waiting with no word is rough.
