Hi everyone. Just noticed I've found 111 words worth 1111 points. What's the chances of that?
TQ you need to put 111 dollars/pounds on horse no 11 in race no 11 .... and it will probably come in 11th place :0
That's a thought ursh
Oh well time to do the Saturday morning supermarket shop. Wish me luck. See you later.
Good luck, TQ :-)
I on the other hand have found one word and have 4 points!
My first 111 words only gave me 1015 points :-(
Morning all. May I have stats please for the O in the bottom right corner?
Hello, Matty they are the ones I have been trying to get for a while now!
Down to 104 to find.
Aaah - we're in the same boat!
or6/24 and 7/36
Thanks Tins - I'll look!
Oh good grief they are bigger than I thought they would be. thank you, DTins!
Found the - thanks!
Are they everyday words, Matty?
NM- Found them.
Thanks again, DTins!
Yay Zooz!
Those two words were crap!
Very smelly indeed
Down to 97 to find but I must go and grab a bite to eat. Happy babbling everyone!
You too. Enjoy
Good Morning and welcome to Snowmageddon! We have 3 or so inches already here in coastal Virginia, and expecting to reach 12 inches.
I'm glad it's a big grid.
It's overcast and damp here, though not very cold
Very cold here, but only a little snow. The folks south of us got the brunt of this storm.
You are in MD, Molly?
Yes. It looks like this storm is moving across the southeast, especially the coastal areas and then moving north along the coast. Just a light snow for us, thank God.
I'm right in the thick of it. THat IDIOT Jim Cantore from the Weather Idiot Channel is here. HA!
I heard Virginia is in a state of emergency for snow and refreezing. Stay warm and safe.
Yes, and so is NC. Both have declared state of emergency.
Really? Then my sister is probably delighted. She likes snow.
I am in Smithfield VA.
There will be lots of sledding here today. I'm in Yorktown, it's a small historic village set up very high on a hill on the banks of the York River. We have several good sledding hills.
Hello msr
Hello! Snowing here too! Glad to be indoors.
Hi monkey, msr
Hi sukee
Morning sukee
Yes me too , msr. I made spaghetti sauce in the Crock Pot and now I am baking a dozen potatoes to make soup.
Yum! Will probably do some baking today.
We don't have snow here but it's very cold. However, there is going to be a bit of a thaw next week.
Potato soup is GREAT snow food.
I mean, we have snow on the ground but nothing active :)
I was just thinking, I have to start making soup.
Yes Molly, I agree. This soup is called loaded baked potato soup.
It has cheese, sour cream, bacon, and green onions.
It is supposed to be 60 degrees here on Wednesday. Mild winter, mild winter, mild winter.
Ooh, that sounds good
Loaded baked potato soup is the kind I make. It is wonderful.
Can't wait to have some later! Molly, other than salt & pepper, do you put any spices in it????
That sounds delicious. The potato soup I usually make is quick, using a bag of shredded potatoes, chicken broth and country gravy mix.
I always add a little of this and that from the spice cabinet when I cook. Some garlic powder, some onion powder, some parsley, etc.
OK I was planning on some onion & garlic, I will add parsley too.
Chives are good in potato soup.
I couldn't find chives, but I bought green onion (scallions)
I'm sure it will be good. And even better tomorrow. Soup always seems better after a day of letting the flavors soak in.
Stumped! I can't find either R word from bottom row.
One of them is past tense of to get up again, I think.
I found on, RE 6/18
Well done, Molly. Keep chanting :-)
Ah thank you
The other is RE + faster than walked.
Thank you zoo
After a few days of freezing weather we are back to 10.9c / 51f
Sounds like what we are going to get next week.
Yuo can have it for next week, Sukee but we would like it back again :-)
you*
I just wish it would stay below freezing for more than 2 weeks. People keep getting sick with the constant changes :)
That is something, me wishing for cold weather :)
I don't think it has ever been below freezing for 2 weeks here.
I could use the stats of one of the Os in the bottom right corner...
So could I!
OR 6/24
Then plural.
It is a bizarre word
zooz, I didn't understand your re + faster than walk. help
Would you like the DEF?
Middle English and all that.
Bich, what is faster than walk?
bichon, I ** in a 5K race.
"walk don't ***"
It is past tense of that.
What would you be doing if you was going faster than walking, Bichon?
doh, thought I had tried that
TITT!
The DEF for the OR 6/24 & OR 7/36 is : dung; manure; excrement.
Shitty word : P
good to know zooz
Well for craps sake
Or scatological if you like to throw around big words
lol
Got it :) TY
nbt
Hi all
Hi LIz
hi Liz
Hi Liz
Hello, Liz :-)
Finally have both 9s!
WTG, Zooz
Thanks :-)
I'm struggling with the 8's - have 3 of them. But on the + side, I only have another 50 words to find.
Good going!
The grid flowed well for me until the last 60 - now it's tougher.
I normally get to one left on a tile and for the life of me can not find the last one lol
Know what you mean :)
Saying that..I do have 9 tiles greyed out :-)
That's good.
If I could find the an 8, I'd have the first column grey.
Sorry I do not have that one.
And 2 more u's would give me the last column.
I'll either find it tonight or I'll leave it until the morning - see how I feel.
I have all the U's if you need any stats?
I've just started working through the list - but thanks.
stats for second column, lower e, pls
Okie dokie!
er 4/4
ty Liz
yw
I have a EA 7/28 from that tile.Serious in intention, purpose, or effort.
TY zoo, missed that one
ty zooz
Welcome :-)
Amazing how many times I've put in a comparative word but forgotten to put in the base 4 letter word :(
Easily done, Liz when they are twisty.
Oh I just got what you meant lol. Yeah that sucks!
Phone
Still don't have an 8 or 9 :)
Can clue a 9 if you'd like.
Well, stats would be good :)
re 7 8 9 8 is a nice run of words
re 9/54 for that one.
10 left after first run through of the list - leaving those for tomorrow. Enjoy your days everyone.
Take care
Finally found that RE run :)
I'm looking for that RE 7 8 9 8 run.
It is when you want to fix something back to how it was originally
oh nice clue! Thank you
YW
I was looking at the wrong RE.
Well, time for me to take a break. 127 to go.
I have 200 to go!
The A words were a pain in the ass. I'm glad to be done with them.
good morning all.
hi peri
Good morning peri!
:)
peri, I'm making loaded baked potato soup. Just took the 14 baked potatoes out of the oven.
And now I have a yen for potato soup so I'm probably going to get some going after breakfast is done cooking.
that is a lot of potatos, monkey
Good for you Lil. Oven baked potatoes are so much better than nuked ones.
I did not bake mine before I made the soup. yours will probably taste better
I am assuming Lil is REALLY hungry or she's having company. That is a lot of potatoes.
help with the O in the corner pls
Yes I know it's a lot of soup! I'm taking some of it to work on Monday for coworkers.
The soup will def have that "baked potato" taste.
Ends like Ivory soap is 99 percent .....
that is a nice thing to do, monkey
The soup has cheese, bacon bits, and onion in it too. Can't wait to try it later today.
Co-workers love home made food. So many people these days don't cook.
Agree, Molly! I don't cook unless I'm going to make a lot. It's hard for me to cook a single portion.
ty for or
peri, we were discussing that word earlier. It means poop!
ok
peri, do you have snow?
I think about 6 inches here so far.
There are a lot of things you can make and freeze in individual portions. I do that a lot.
just a little from Thursday. we only got about an inch
I did not realize you got so much snow where you are, monkey
I do the same thing Molly
Look at the radar map, Peri. The southeast is getting hammered. We only have flurries here.
it is dark and gloomy here some areas near me will get more snow but I think we will be ok
hi all... i'm keeping my eye on michigan for snow..i'm off there next wednesday.
We have what a friend of mine calls "snizzle". Like drizzle only snow.
bbs
hello....
test
sorry
Yep, that works : D
hard to believe it took me over a hundred words to find that one, lol....
Not really. With the larger grids, it is easy to overlook the simple words.
i was also flying through those first words...i try to be systematic, but sometimes i get distracted...
I like to hear about the "logic" applied to these illogical grids. : D
i am very systematic...look for word families....don't even think about nbt or nbs until i do my first run through....
I like the phrase "word families". It sounds like there are little clans in the grid.
i used it all the time when talking about reading and spelling instruction....
I was eating brekkie, now I'm back.
i should not have started this grid....company coming today for the weekend...
I am guilty of not looking for "word families"
anybody want some snow?
nope....still have grass here....
I have plenty mlfan!
coming down monkey or on the ground?
Both
same here
About 6 inches so far I think. Still coming down.
could be about the same here and it is still coming down
Are you in Virginia?
I wish.. but no nc
near
oops
Are you near Raleigh?
I am an hour from charlotte
6 " is a dusting in my book
I keep seeing fondue and rotund in this grid. Too much fondue will make you rotund. And tha
lol bichon... and lol JBsAnno
that's all I got for 233 words to go. Later, Babblers!
6 inches here is enuf to shut down our whole area for days.
bichon usually where I am in nc we don't get much too often but other areas do
It's a 2 hour delay in school opening
I predict school will be closed this entire week.
They close school here before snow even falls. The forecast is for flurries, and the schools start announcing closure. It's so stupid.
monkey the entire state of va closes when they have one flake lol
Yes I know!
so do i:)
Road clearing facilities are not as sophisticated in theSouth. Here they put down a layer of salt/sand before the snow start.
THey did that here last night, bich.
I would rather have the kids off the snowy roads and safe than shipped off to school in inclement weather. Also, it gets more cars off the roads when school is closed.
true bichon, the snow plow came through once already according to my husband. but its still coming down so..
agreed molly do you have snow in that part of va?
Also, southern states do not have the snow clearing machinery that the northern states do. There is no reason to fund it for the rare occasions like this.
I don't live in Virginia.
True olly, but you can hear everyone yelling when days are added on the calendar in June
*Molly
molly yeah true, but the cities are do get plowed and sanded the night before for the most part
More people get cars that are good in the snow, like Subarus
clue for the q please?
it goes to the right...
thanks and hello pen
does anyone have a word from the 2nd column bottom r?
re + walked fast
got up agin...
past tense of to get up again, I think
ty pen
ar8/9 pls
ar + congresssional part....
ty pen, great clue
'Round these parts, they will give a drivers license to anyone. You don't even need to speak English, you can bring an interpreter with you. (Even though all the street signs are in English). People do not know how to drive in snow and they do not keep their cars maintained for snowy weather.
yw...
ty pen
isn't that just lovely molly
160 left, bbs
nbs
one more for nbt....o in the corner?
or + i an en**** anything if I have the support of others...
Thursday night we had a light snowfall. Just enough to merit a brief brush off of your front and back window. I counted 7 cars going down the road whose owners had not bothered to clean off their rear window.
It wassalways true that Southerners could get a river's license younger than up North
*driver's
pathetic isn't it molly
I don't understand your clue pen?
Here you have to shovel off your hood and roof
a river's license?
that was a good typo
I read your typo just find bichon:)
MLF....how much pain can you en****?....
When the south was primarily agricultural, it may have been the case that kids could get their drivers license at a younger age. I don't think that is the case anymore.
pen for the o ??
that got me a du 4/5
Yes, or plus the last part of Pen's clue
got it
and in these parts no one has to speak english either. and you can get any benefit you want. i pay $200 for one of my shots. they get theirs for $1 . and if they dont have it , they dont pay that.. ha!! seems fair... very sore spot for me lol
I don't understand why foreigners who barely speak English are allowed to get jobs and they get them before most who actually qualify for them
1sora
the jobs around here now ask if you are bi lingual. spanish is now spoken in schools. they do not teach them to speak english.
what is up with that ivesy?
our population is predominately spanish. this is the county that people come to becuz they can get welfare. and sit at the library playing games on the computer all day.
where I used to live, has pretty much pushed out the American's and brought in foreigners and its now very expensive to live there. My husband always says we need gas stations and grocery store clerks;.. how do we think they are living as they don't get paid that much sometimes not even minimum wage
is st 8 a compound word/
ivesy that is so disgusting
pen I don't have it
nm....found it..
i dont mind if people rec. help. if they worked it cuts the benefits. so they just get everything pd for.this system is really messed up here. make them work!! stop having kids lol
lol ivesy
ivesy, where do you live?
I have seen job ads that say "bi-lingual preferred". How is that not discrimination?
i see what my son goes thru just getting help with his rent. and they dont pay all of it. also he doesnt get a cash allowance. he has problems yes. but he has to jump thru hoops to get aid
pen clue it please?
ivesy, how are you doing with the snowstorm? You have been getting slammed since yesterday!
hi scrab
Hi kids.
scrabbler! Long time no see.
How are you doing? How is your ??? was it your ankle???
s + what drops out of your eye + past tense of consume food
s + eye droplet + consumed....
Yes, my life was on hold while I was a foster mother to my grandnephews. They were returned to their mother on Wednesday. I miss them terribly but am ready to resume my life.
Sorry, I thought Pen had left
Yes, I broke my ankle 6 mo ago. I still have anterior and posterior pain--mild.
Molly, you & pen had a SNAP!
I'm glad you have recovered scrabbler :)
The fracture healed in 8 weeks but the strains/sprains of tendons and ligaments will take a long time.
Yes indeed
I'm sure you know to perform ankle pumps constantly.
Ankle pumps? You mean repeated plantarflexion?
Yes... any time, anywhere.
i was just avoiding chat, molly... ;o)
I have a bit of crepitus, or a catch, anteriorly and posteriorly. X-ray confirmed os trigonum syndrome. I talked to Bubba here (an orthopedist) and he told about anterior impingement syndrome too. I am not functionally impaired so I am just waiting to heal.
actually scrab, we have about 3 inches of snow. everyone around us got slammed lol
Mr. Bich did the same thing a couple of years ago and he atill has twinges
ty for the st 8 clue
Really, ivesy? The radar map looked/looks bad. I have to call my friend in Derby.
With time, that bone should heal to bone, scrabs. Right now the catch is because the bone has bealed to cartilage surface.
westfield got i bad yesterday. but so far we have been lucky
Yes, bichon, I suspect that my ankle will never be the same. But I can walk, hike, and snowshoe just fine.
That is great news scrabs!
'morning, everyone
have you been getting much snow scrabs?
I'm glad you can hike & snowshoe. I'm sure you would be miserable without those activities.
Mr. Bich is tough. He walked a mile in the snow to get to his car
scrabbs, i have an impingement in my left shoulder (since january of last year). takes a lot of time to heal. you might say i'm "decrepitus" *lol*
hi welk
OK taking a break to make my loaded baked potato soup! BBL
We got about 20 inches in the last few days. North of here got 28 inches in 6.5 hours on Thursday night.
yikes!! i am sure we will get it one of these days
I want some monkey!
Hi welki. At my age I expect ongoing degeneration of my musculoskeletal system.
Yummy, monkey.
never heard that word before scrab
you're a bit younder than i am, scrabbs - it ain't wonderful, but it beats the alternative :)
Yep.
I'm way ahead of you Scrabs. Have pelvic floor issues too. Am going to PT for it
bichon what does that mean?
The storm was so intense Thursday night that kids were stuck at elementary schools until 4am. Teachers and principals stayed there to feed and entertain the kids.
That reminds me to do my Kegel exercises, Bichon.
scrab oh my god really??
squeeze, hold, release *lol*
Have you given birth. That does a job on you pelvic muscle. Means you leak and get urgencies
never had children bichon
But you haven't given birth Scrabs
we call that cough and splat bichon lol
Yes, MLFAN. Semi-trucks jack-knifed on the thruway, so the thruway was closed. Side roads were jammed. Heavy snowfall made a mess. People had 4-8 hr drives home instead of 20-30 minutes.
No, but my uterus is gone so my bladder has fallen down.
genetics, age, weight (and i suppose gravity!) are other contributing factors, bich
I have seen results with the PT
wow scrab that is incredible! Not fun at all.
My m.i.l. has had 6 pregnancies and she has no problem
and they were all natural births with no problem? congrats to her
Yes
BBS, I have to make salads for the bunnies.
its amazing what some people's bodies can with stand
Is there surgery to put in a sling forthebladder
I thought those slings were dangerous and cause other problems?
yes, bich - my mother had the surgery, but there are restrictions on who might qualify for it
I just about choked on my coffee at "cough and splat" : D
and it is snowing in southeastern PA. but just flurries
Off and on flurries is all we have too, Peri.
peri want a few inches?
no thank you. I hate snow and ice. the cold I can deal with even tho I do not like that either
woot! of snow, of snow!
you are in the wrong state then peri lol
not as bad as in New England. my niece live in Connecticut
I love snow as long as we are all safe..and I love to watch it come down
Peri they are getting slammed on the shore. That is unusual.
I am so glad I do not have to work, getting my car out from under the snow and digging out a parking space when I got home was the pits
My sister and I will snowshoe in a bit but it only 6F now. The high will be 15 later.
they got a lot of snow at the shore last year. or the year before
peri that so does not sound like fun
my husband will have to shovel some if he feels he has to go out and get some milk. the snow here should stop around early afternoon today
I do not have to shovel driveways where I live now
do they do a good job peri?
who, mlf?
my landlady shovels the sidewalk
we do not have a driveway
those that come to plow your snow?
I was pretty good at shoveling, just glad I do not have to do it anymore
peri ohh
Shoveling is a pain in the ass.
yes they do. mlf
the only thing is they plow the cars in
but my next door neighbor has a snow plow and he got rid of the snow beside my car for me last winter
as long as I have food, TP and other essentials I am ok. A bottle of wine would be nioe but that can wait.
Nice neighbors with plows and snow blowers are a God send.
nice, even
my bro in law did buy a snow plow when I still lived there
but he keeps it in the back of the garage so it is hard to get out once it has snowed
ok I am stuck with 157 words left
Well, you are supposed to get the plow out and attach it to the truck BEFORE it snows : )
i am back....down to 7...
Inspired by Lil Monkey, I now have a pot of potato soup working. Mine is not quite as big as hers though.
yum...
I'm back from putting my soup together. Now it must simmer for a while.
It's a big pot!
I forgot until I pulled up my recipe, mine starts with sauteed onion, celery and carrots, finely chopped.
I do not have any potatos
that is how mine starts, Molly
or celery or carrots either
thinking of getting a small crock pot
There are some things I almost always have. Potatoes, celery and carrots are three of them. And onions. Peri, I have a small crock pot and I love it.
how small, Molly. how much does it hold?
I used up 5 lbs of potatoes pretty quickly. I made potato soup, potato salad, has brown potatoes.
hash brown
It is a 1.5 quart size. Just enough to make soup, sauce and other things for two. I have some chuck roast in it now for Italian beef sandwiches for dinner.
ok
I have 3 Crock Pots lol
why do you need 3 monkey?
I had an old original Crock pot but I gave it away two moves ago. I did not use it very much
I have two. A larger one to cook in if the whole clan is coming for dinner.
THey are all different sizes. I have a wee one, it's about 1 quart and it's for fondue. Then I have a 4.5 quart, then I have a 6.5 quart.
I would love to have a mini one for hot dips. Then I would have 3.
I like to make a bigger amount when I make soup. then I can freeze some for later or give some away. most of my friends like my soup
I do the same, peri :)
what size is the other one you have Molly?
my sister has one and she does not use it I wonder if she would give it to me. I will ask her
does it use up much electricity?
rats, now the snow is sticking to the streets and sidewalks
My big one is a 6 quart. I have no idea to measure how much electricity it uses.
I know a few crack pots. Does that count?
ok. I pay my own electricity
Ru, I love the quote in your profile. Perfect for all the Babble winos. : D
Me too molly it makes me laugh
i am done...
yay for pen. see you on wordsplay
WOW, penquis!
ty....going there now, peri...
I pay an electric bill too Peri, but I have no idea how to measure what amount of electricity a small appliance would generate.
I would think using a crock pot uses less electricity than firing up the stove.
I am glad my stove is gas and not electric
I will do without a crock pot for now. but I would like a bigger stock pot
I passed 100. Time to layer-up for snowshoeing. Bye kids.
have fun, scrabs
Hi and bye, Owl. I hope you are feeling better.
yes, ty! now i understand flu without flu.
There are many flu-like illnesses. Human metapneumovirus is a biggie. Adenovirus. Parainfluenza. RSV.
happy snowshoeing, if you are still here!

"Brisk walk" takes on a whole new meaning when you do it in 20 degree weather with snow flurries. Brrr.

It helps to read over the chat when looking for clues.
There is a 7,8,9,8 run with that re

only at 200 and struggling with this one
Too low down for me to find!
What difference does it make if you reclue a word instead of making someone search thru chat for it?
Starts with british word for butt :)
Ends with the nickname for a man's name
or AR + higher house in US congress and plural
stoat
Thanks

Hello from snowy Massachusetts everyone!
already had stoat hillsnow.. but thanks anyways
Hi Car
hi car
It doesn't make any difference at all. Re-clue all you want. I was just making a suggestion for people looking for clues.
thanks for the ar clue
Hi from snowy North Carolina.
We're have snow up here in NE too
hi mixi from snowy Brooklyn
hi bichon
and from flooding Napa
hi ruru
Hi mix we have an inch of snow in Alabama this morning...a really rare event
a nice big babble to keep us busy today. otherwise I'll have to scrape some more paint.
Hard to believe CA is suffering for an overabundance of rain
hiya annie
the use of Babble to get out of doing obnoxious tasks
we're going to get 6-10 inches here tomorrow in the bay area.. the pineapple express
yes this babble is really keeping me busy. :)
pineapple express?
hope it's a steady day long rain -- not a deluge
wish the express would swing further north as it sometimes does - we
we're supposed to get a warming trend in a couple of days, but that means -8 instead of -12
I don't find it hard to believe that California is having an over abundance of rain. The weather usually evens itself out.
we should get a warming by the end of the week. 60's.
it was 60's on wednesday, now 23 with a few inches of snow on top of the sleet.
just saw an SUV doing a 360 in the lot across the street. I'm staying home.
lol, mixi - probably doesn't have snow tires on
We don't have "snow tires" but we do have all weather tires. And SUV's have 4-wheel drive so any SUV driver doing a 360 obviously doesn't know how to drive it.
snow tires? who gets snow tires? an average winter gets 3 half inch snow falls.
probably the parking lot is mostly ice.
and they don't know how to drive here.
Oh well on ice, you can forget it. SUV or not.
we get snow tires because we have a lot of mountain passes travel in order to go anywhere -- all weathers are usually good enough in town (not this year though). Snow tires are mandatory for the higher passes from Oct - Apr
Does anyone use tire chains anymore? Those were like the sound of winter when I was a kid.
the transport trucks have to chain up. Cleats have been outlawed because they chew up the bare roads
I-40, I-85 merge is closed due to weather.
where is that, mixi?
outside of Chapel Hill, NC
are you getting an unusually hard winter also, then?
un
Except for the mountain areas, snow in North Carolina doesn't happen much.
That's what I thought -- remember being there in late Dec. one year and it was pretty warm.
We have about 2 inches of snow/sleet. That's more that last years total accumulation.
are you inland, mixi?
yes. central north carolina.
No snow but it's bitterly cold here
hi ruby - happy new year!
The ski resorts are singing the, bleus
HOW COLD RUBY?
sorry for caps
helloo Nan and Happy New Year to you
the ski resorts here are raking it in
... they can make snow so they'll survive
I think it's about 20F which is unusual for here
... g'morning
Hello all. we're to get snow much of day..and then ice. Lucky us!
hi dos
I hated black ice when I lived in Oregon
no ody like black ice. I have studs on one pair of sneakers
If i warms up, we should get snow by mid-weekt
... we lost about half of our snow over Christmas but we're supposed to get a fresh load tomorrow ... ... but it has been cooooold this past week
Yup. They're talking about preemptively closing I-84
Binghamton had months of black ice every year
We're supposed to get 5-10 inches of snow and up to a 1/10th inch of ice.
300 down - time for a break - bbl

hi nef! ty
And Good Afternoon, Everyone.
yw
I was hear a bit after flip; fell asleep; and have now a few minutes to myself to Babble. It's cold here today (hovering just above zero (F)); but we have bright sunshine and pretty white (but icy) snow outside.
cold here too nef snow stopped an hour ago
a few inches I guess
lots of sunshine now:)
We haven't had snow since Christmas, but it still is clean -probably because it's been too cold to turn to slush
we didn't have a white Christmas again this year here in nc
How often do you have a white Christmas? We used to always have them when I was young; but the last 2 Christmases we didn't have any snow.
So I'm still loving this
I have a couple of inches of snow.
Where are you mixi?
(evidently farther north than MLF?)
Chapel Hill
I live in south east of England. I have a four year old granddaughter that has never seen snow!!
How about you, MLF? farther south?
WOW, Deeha! Is that normal for your area?
It didn't used to be. When I was a kid I remember 2-3 feet of snow.
Over the past week or 2, the weathermen on TV have been telling how bad the storms were in Northwestern MN (where I grew up); so I sent a text to my sister who's a veterinarian up there; & she said that the weather was the same as when we were growing up; no worse than ever. (We had a good laugh about the weathermen!)
I come from Liverpool and we used to get deep snow that lasted for weeks.
This was back in the 1950s and '60s.
Really hydra? Do you have snow now?
No. Haven't had any for a couple of years. Last winter was very mild. I live in West London now.
People who live in "snow county" often scoff at people who don't live in snow country. If you're used to it, and your area has good snow clearing equipment, it's no big deal. For other places, it is a big deal.
(And "some people" don't believe in climate change....smh)
Agreed, Molly.
ur weatherman missed forecasting the hurricane 30 years ago since then they are terrified they might underforecast so they really exaggerate now
I think Heathrow, three miles from me, had an inch of snow last winter and that closed the airport!!!
I don't believe in climate change. Smack your head all you want.
I think you're right, Deeha.
Even people who live in snow country don't always take it seriously
sorry I went into the other room
i live in nc parts of the state are probably worse then where i am located
Well, Molly, I do believe that our climate has changed; so we will have to agree to disagree on that point.
That's fine. I don't think you need to smack your head about it though.
we haven't had but maybe a few white Christmas's since i have lived here. in fact, one of them we were waiting outside of the Chinese restaurant to open on Christmas day or evening i cant remember
i had several white Christmas's growing up as well didn't live in nc though
smh (to me) means "shake my head" not smacking it.
fw
congrats mixi
YAY, mixi6!!! WTG!!!
"I don't believe in climate change." Like it's an article of faith that one believes in or doesn't. Sorry but it just doesn't work that way. Scientific facts are not things one believes in like believing in reincarnation or the Books of Moses. Do your homework. The evidence is overwhelming and a cool summer or a mild winter here and there doesn't do a damn thing to refute it. Ignorance is the curse or our time.
Zealots are always interesting.
apparently we are getting warmer for the most part but here where i live the temps have been extreme at times both winter and summer
That's exactly what the models for climate change predict MLFAN17. More extremes. And anyone who's been paying attention has noticed that extremes have been the hallmark of recent climate evenats.
yeah but they also said that the sun was going to hit earth years ago
do 5?
Not sure if that zealot comment was directed at me, Molly. But zealots are those who "believe" in things that have no factual support. They go by their emotions. Not "believing" in climate change is pure zealotry. There's no other explanation.
I've been to Glacier National Park many times over the past 45 years (1 of my sisters & her hubby were seasonal park rangers there) and I've seen the glaciers shrinking. Supposedly, there will be no glaciers left within 20 years. :-(
that is sad nef
a fishs fin

still looking ty tigs
the fish's fin is normally spelled with an a. Not here apparently
First round of shoveling done!
It is amazing how many identities some people can afford to sign on with here.
Has anyone seen the ice-shelf that just broke off from Antarctica. It was the size of Delaware and you can view it on google-earth. You may not believe in climate-change but our beaches down here in Fla are slowly disappearing as the water lines rises. You can always dis-believe it from a boat house.!
Is anyone really babbling cause it seems like everyone's talking aout snow
Do olives count as one of your five a day??
I listed bich.. 29 to go.

oops. done

People who accept the mounting data about the pace of climate change are hardly sealots
zealots.
hi kaplan
hi
I went to college to learn about science. What did alltghese deniers do?
can someone help with the do5 please i still have no idea?
like the fish fin but an e where the a goes
I have a college degree Bich. I just don't agree with you. That does not denigrate my education.
it's part of your spine
Sorry Molly, but it does.
It' not a matter of opinion or politics to read about the data and weigh it/
No really it doesn't. But I will agree to disagree with you too, BR.
that is a 6 i have it i need the do5?
As I said the curse of our time. And that college degree just makes it easier to tell yourself it's something other than pure ignorance.
As I said the curse of our time. And that college degree just makes it easier to tell yourself it's something other than pure ignorance.
edjamacation
I don't understand how the science behind it is a matter of faith that some peplle do not share
Sorry but I find denial based on nothing more than "I don't believe" to be pure sophistry. Do your homework. Stop believing and start learning something. Of course it's harder to justify the selfish lack of regard for future generations if you simply hide behind "I don't believe."
i have faith in god that he will give ma lots of snow and presents for Christmas again sometime before i die
And he'll come through in the end and fix the climate.
fix it?
To a heavenly chorus of little naked angel playing trumpets. Or is that Trumpettes?
who tout?
Trump will probably try to pull out f the climate accord because his great great experts dont believe either
interesting kaplan
I had some work to do, DH is driving me nuts with his "we should" do such & such! (He just got out of the hospital Thursday again; he can't do much anything yet but that "we" always means ME!!!
nef is it anything that can wait?
MLF, the do 5 is the back, it's do + a*e you ready yet? + **me old, **me old, every day.
ty nef:)
LOL, MLF. DH was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago (I've always known he was since our kids were diagnosed 34 years ago. There are time I just want to put a cork in it every so often. :-)
i have a friend with adhd but i don't know if he does that same type of thing or not. He was diagnosed in his teens now in his 40s
does dh take meds for it?
Usually I tolerate it; but this week has been weird; & I was stressed because he was so sick. He's behaving himself now; so it's all good. (I did give him the "evil eye" st5/10; & he got the hint now that he shouldn't find anything else for me to do).
Yes, he does.
my friend doesn't take any meds at all
for it
ne
my husband finds himself things to do out of nowhere and a lot of those things he doesn't do too often. he has himself and kind of me on a "schedule" he dirves me nuts!
hi norma
isn't that the function of DH's?
He's always had ways to deal with it in the past. When he worked, his desk faced a blank wall; and he pretty much has had ways to deal with certain stuff. But as his MS has progressed (or, like now, when he's recuperating from an infection & relapse & can't do much); that's when he gets futzy.
multiple sclerosis?
Yes
i haven't been around the person who is female that i know that has ms. i know she goes to get medication in iv a lot
I give DH his shots. Every once in a while I tell him I'm going to "shoot" him ;-) (you have to have some humor times)
lol very nice nef
it looks like the snow has stopped here. got a few inches
my downstairs friends cleaned off my car!! that was an unexpected surprise.
How's the temp where you are peri?
I think it is in the 20's but have not checked lately
peri snow stopped here about 2 and a half hours ago. hubby went out for a bit and came back. we got a few inches i think?
((((((peri/Nef/MLF/friends))))))) stopping by to say hello before rushing off to check on a few things. Have procrastinated all day long, and want to get at least a couple things done before it's too much later! We might get some snow later -- which is nice, because it's finally warming up and won't cost a snow day at school! *poof*
hi there stidmama
thank you for the update stidmama
Hi & Bye, stid!
down to 100 and really struggling!
deeha congrats i am down to 143 and not doing too well either
LOL! I'm struggling& have 200 left!
nef i was amazed when i got one hundred words that i found lol
I think I've entered every single word on my list twice now
oh you do that too huh nef lol i have to put things in twice sometimes since i go back and forth between babble and lickety
I try not to use lickety until I'm half way. I do use more words before rickety, but try not to use that very much. I try to make my "little grey cells" work
i haven't used either that much asked for a few clues per usual.
Hello Babble friends, and a very happy New Year to all
I need a break for a while. There are no more words visible to me. I need to go undecorate my house (should have done it yesterday; but wasn't up to it.
Hi Soodle! How are you? Did you have a nice Christmas?
Ah, it was lovely, Ned. Hectic, but lovely. How was your break?
Ned???? Nef!
Break? I'm retired; I don't get a break. ;-) Seriously, we had a nice Christmas.
It's okay, Soodle; I mess up lots of names here too.
Lol! Every December, I say 'I'm looking forward to the holidays'. Turns out I work harder & longer over Christmas.... Kids asking What's for dinner, will you drive me here, there, elderly parents to visit.....
Ah, yes; we don't have parents; but lots of stuff to do & people to see
How's your other half, Nef?
He's been sick & in the hospital again, Soodle. He's back home as of Thursday evening & presently driving me nuts with his "we should...." ideas (that means *I* have to do what he comes up with; in case you need to know that)
(((Nef))). That's difficult for you. Stay strong! Domestic crisis has arisen in my Mothers
(((Nef))). That's difficult for you. Stay strong! Domestic crisis has arisen in my Mothers
(((Nef))). That's difficult for you. Stay strong! Domestic crisis has arisen in my Mothers
I stared at him with daggers in my eyes after the 3rd or 4th "we should" & he's now backed off since noon (this is the 3rd day I've had to give him the evil eye for that comment. You'd think he'd figured that out, wouldn't you?
What's happened with your Mother?
House.... must attend. I enjoyed all 10 minutes of Babble. :-/
Oh dear! Take care & I hope it isn't too much of a crisis!
hello friends! a raging storm outside, and a big fatty grid!!! praise god!
Now I'll take a break; be back in a bit.
Blocked drain, apparently. I may be able to manage this remotely ..... Call a plumber. Fingers crossed this doesn't require a road trip to Dublin. Gosh. I'm pretty worn out. Good night Nef & pals.
soodle xoxoxox
if anyone is out there, may I please have a count for the bottom row r?
Okay; I'm back again. (I actually did do something important; I paid the bills for the month).
hello nef!
hi Trifi; re 6/18 (there's a bunch of them; I have 5 so far
thank you!
re 6/18 ... re5/10
Hi dose. I was just going to add that re 5/10 myself. How are you doing today?
thank you as well dos - looking very hard
... just back from an afternoon of grocery shopping ...
... it's not as hard as it looks ... but it's long ... and those last ones are hard
Ugh! I probably should go grocery shopping too, but I only need some fruit.
I need to poke the fire, but valentine is snoozing and snoring away in the chair nearby, and don't want to wake him....
(I hate grocery shopping; it's my least favorite thing to do. My hubby used to do it all the time because he loved it; but he's no longer able to do it.
i actually really like grocery shopping - looking at the foods, thinking up meals....
... Well you could go watch the Wild on TV ... they're two up on the Kings so all must be right in the Twin Cities
I've got a ton of other things to do; -- & I'm putting off as much as I can today!
... sometimes that
s
... try again ,, sometimes that's that sanity requires
... should try again ... but the second that is only "what"
that's what sanity requires; very true. dose
omg I have finished all the Rs
I have 65 left, all S,T and Us
... still far from there ... but ... well done
WTG, lil*monkey. I've been off taking down Christmas decorations & am not trying to figure out what happened to a 3 foot tall fireplace Santa that is missing!
.. ya see ... ya coulda put that off for another month or two ... didn't take the tree down until mid March last year ... ... of course we threw it out too which is why it stayed up so long ... sentiment and all that ... ... was supposed to come down today but spouse decided that she had to go to the mall so the tree remains
Ugh. Took my decorations down today & exposed lots of dust. Tinsel covers a multitude!
I usually take everything down on January 6th; but there were too many things going on yesterday. I'm discovering that *maybe* a certain little 7 year old was playing with some of the decorations: the Santa is missing; and now there's only 1 angel (out of 4) that still has 2 wings !
soooooodle!
Woo Hoo!!! ((((Trif))))
snowing like CRAZY here. Expecting about 14" by the morning. ugh
How lovely to 'see' you!
... but being a math teacher I finally followed my own instructions and rechecked my work ... I am 80% done .. so I can go on to something else ... maybe if I'm still sober after the hockey game (not a typical Canadian state for a Saturday night after a Leafs/Habs game when both teams are playing reasonably well) ... luck to all and stay warm
our photo is still my icon
Where are you, Trifi?
south shore of Massachusetts, nef
Muttering to self....14 inches????
yes. first big storm of the season
Wow, that's a lot of snow! (I wish we had a bit more; but not all at once!
... a pleasant amount ... as long as it falls somewhere else ... remember it doesn't have to be shoveled in one go
Happy new year, darling Trif.
I wish it was sunday into Monday, so I could have a day off....
happy new year to you as well, darling soodle
Hi. Just as a contrast, our official weather forecast for last night was 'oppressive' - nand it was. Waiting impatiently for a cool change.
I cannot find nbt to save my stupid life.
.. what are you missing/
Unseasonably mild here to date. It was 14 degrees earlier today.
What are you missing Trifi?

Hi Soodle, Happy New Year to you
hi Annie - glad you are tucked up inside
thank you friends. FINALLY nbs, nbt, and over halway
Hi lynxxx, yes, me too. I took Bobby out for an early breakfast this morning and my car was covered in snow when I came out.
yay, Trif
I'm taking a study break....love to all
bye, Trif
bye, babblers
ack to find my last 99 words
back, even
my friend/neighbor made mac and cheese for dinner which was very good
hey peri - hope the weather isn't too bad in your neck of the woods. here, it's cold and snowy, but it'll be like this for another four or five months
we had 2-3 inches of snow. in the 20's. going to be single digits with the wind chill tonight
but my apt is warm
i get antsy when the weather is foul, so i've been crocheting newborn/preemie hats to donate to our hospital
what a sweet thing to do.
keeps me busy and those babies need warm heads. i was making coasters and doilies, but how many can you have?
i skyped with one of my grandkids today - she's 10 and has taken up the guitar. she played pink floyd's 'wish you were here' for me :)
aww
all the children and grandchildren are musical - quite the show when we all get together
hi Welki..you might want to look at Knitted Knockers too if you need to keep hands busy.
Hi Peri
hi lyn
wish I knew how to crochet
i=which is harder to learn knitting or crochet?
we have a branch of knitted knockers up here = i can knit, but only barely
I can do simple crocket only - haven't tried reading/understanding a pattern. aNot sure how good it would be on hands
crochet too
my daughter prefers knitting, i think crochet is easier. i used to volunteer at aids calgary and i must have taught have a dozen folks how to crochet
just easier - or easier on hands?
i find crochet easier on my hands, lyn - but i guess it's a personal thing. my daughter knits her own socks! she's an advanced knitter
(and easier to do, too)
hmm, maybe I will learn to crochet
socks - wow
I have just started doing washcloths - and saw a beautiful sedge stitch crochet one. Happily there are lots of UTube video to teach you everything nowadays. My next project
I will check out youtube too
I couldn't teach my daughter to knit but she learnt by sitting in front of her computer
you tube teaching videos are a great way to learn how to knit and crochet.
her socks are incredible - not your run of the mill sock, but beautiful cable knits
ants
oops, sorry ladies
hi Bugs
30 left, bbs
hi lynxx
I always wondered if you needed to go up a size in shoes with handknits? though I have never seen 4or5 ply
she never uses synthetic yarn, so i'd guess that she does go up (at least) a size, to allow for shrinkage. you should see the hats and mittens she's made for the kids - looks like something out of a fancy schmancy yarn store
I just squish my foot in whatever shoe will accept the sock
Does she sell Welki - on Etsy or like?
no, she knits for family and friends (i've asked her why she doesn't consign some of her work, since she lives in an artsy-craftsy sort of college town, but she says it's not worth it)
one more hat done!
you know, these hats are sort of 'spherical' - maybe there's a crochet pattern for those k.k. you mentioned
thru retail outlets is hard because they can't get the mark-up they want. But selling Etsy or privately (word-of-mouth) is possible - at least you can recover the cost of the wools and a little bit for your time. Some people are pleased to 'order' hat and get it made just for them.
By the way, if she doesn't know about it yet, let your DIL know above Wool Warehouse in the UK - best prices for wool I have ever found - anywhere.
i'll message her - wonder how expensive the shipping to the u.s. would be
not sure - but it is only AUD7 to get from UK to Aust
weirdly I can get a parcel posted from the UK cheaper and delivered faster than I can get one posted within Australia - go figure
just went to the site, she'll love it. i know she orders most of her yarn online. me, i usually buy what's on sale (and it has to be synthetic for the babies), but she doesn't balk at the price of some of the more 'exotic' yarns
canadian postage is ridiculously expensive - i save what i want to send them and bring it when i travel, or order online
where do they live?
vermont
so just over the border from you?
on the other side of the continent, almost 3000 miles away
oh goodness!
i don't know where you are in oz, but we have friends who live in geelong - they have family in massachusetts (about an hour and a half from my daughter's place). they were visiting in november, we were visiting in november, so we picked them up and drove to boston for lunch! (then they joined us the day after for american thanksgiving)
I am close to Melbourne, I guess Geelong around an hours drive. Distance is no problem for you!
not when oysters and clams are involved :D
hold on - are you saying you dreive 3,000 miles?
no, we flew to albany, ny - about 1.5 hours from bennington, vermont
(i have another kid in albany, too - and one in nj - heck, i have kids all over the place!)
Q clues?
i've got to get supper started - nice chatting with you, lyn. it's been a long while. i've sent the wool warehouse link to my daughter - thanks for the lead
Yay - temp just dropped 8 degrees !!
Bye Welki
finish the qu with a seabird
how many letters is that q word, please?
qu5.16 & qu6.27
thanks!!
Hi Babble buddies. Spent the day having my first quilting lesson.
Hi. Good?
It was fun. I have homework to do before our next lesson. Something called a jelly roll.
Got to go - bye all
when you visit origami, I will introduce you to my SIL who has been a quilter for years. She uses amazing colours.
Oooh, that sounds fun Bugs.
she has lots of expensive equipment too.
hi all. clue for the o bottom corner please. ty
sorry mkg. I think it means poop but . . .
My goal is to get good enough to do origami quilts - you fold the fabric and then sew it to blocks. Amazing quilts.

please leave cake in the PB then
Only 248 left here :-)
oh my goodness, origami. I feel better
my daily goal is more than half way, nbt, nbs and that is enough. i seldom go to fireworks.
bugs, why the PB?
I am multi-tasking so probably won't get anywhere near fireworks tonight
because I often live in there, mkg
Hi again everyone. Thanks for that ar 9; I can finally say NBS now! :-)
I live in the PB most days also.
welcome Nef. Have your family moved in yet?
Oh yes. And we still have boxes in the middle of everything too.
I hope the chaos of boxes doesn't make life more difficult for you.
I'm glad my son is here; it helps to deal with DH
but do the boxes upset DH ?
DH just got out of the hospital _Again! - on Thursday (he went in on Sunday); he's well enough to drive me crazy right now! :-)
I am so sorry that you have such a burden. I think it must be different to nurse a loved one than nursing someone you have never met.
Yes, the boxes bother him; but we're working on it.
working as a nurse I could go home & have time away; being a full time caregiver is really tough because you don't get away
Is a chaos of boxes like a murder of crows or a crash of rhinos?
exactly!
Oh, Nef. That is so difficult. I have been there.
Good thoughts are regularly sent your way, Nef. I would not be very capable doing all that you do.
Ditto
LOL, ori. It isn't that bad tonight. There are several boxes in the corner of the dining room (3 are my fault, 2 are my sons'. The 3 that belong to me are there because I can't find the shelves for the buffet so I can put the glassware & crystal away. The 2 boxes of my sons have duplicates & triplicates of food in there.
Hey, I have a sense of humor; we all have to laugh at ourselves so we can keep going
that is so true, Nef. If we can't laugh we would go crazy.
Indeed! I try not to take myself seriously. If I did, I would probably be in big trouble :-)
yeah, sometimes things get tough; but I do have some friends that also help me by making sure I have time away with them. And, with my son & grandson here; I don't have to worry quite so much about what trouble DH is into.
yes. I am sure he finds your grandson entertaining and feels safe in the hands of your son.
Time away is crucial.
are there programs DH can belong to for more respite?
To be truthful, he finds our grandson a bit overwhelming at times. (DH was an only child; he doesn't understand how kids have so much energy; and he didn't understand how our kids could either when they were young
Yes. when my husband was so very ill, friends who came to visit and hospice volunteers would give me much needed breaks.
Yes ... in that time away is crucial.
oh dear, Nef. Kids do have more energy than we can tolerate sometimes but I love the stories they tell and the way they keep me entertained as they talk while they draw or do art work of any kind.
so true, ore.
some of our old people's residences have day programs for those who are cared for at home. They go for a couple of hours at at time for one or two days a week. Is there anything like that there?
our grandson is in Tae Kwon Do & is very good at it. He's decided to become a black belt; he's working very hard at it. DH likes to watch him go through his forms; & Ronald will show off and and all kicks knows
lovely. they have a connection for happy memories then.
DH refuses to do any of those things, Bugs. I've tried; but if I don't go to do that, he won't go. We have a senior center with many activities about 2-3 miles from here; he won't go even when I've tried to make him.
Would he go to one of your grandson's Tae Kwon Do competitions?
That makes it so much harder on you. I am sorry
Yes. I've made him come to the state tournament & another tournament & he enjoyed watching him.
But he won't go to any of the testing for promotions
Is he embarrassed? Or does he think it is too much trouble to move? There must be a way to go around this.
Usually if you know the reasons, a way can be found to calm the resistance.
I must head out for food and a break
DH is sometimes an old stick in the mud. Other times he does well. I think it's the fatigue of the MS at times; other times I think he's just being a putz.
oh, well, things will work out.
Sending all sorts of good wishes Nef. Must head out myself. The canines call.
ROFL Nef! You hit the nail on the head with that diagnoses. I used to work with individuals with dual-diagnoses and I always putz was a third one
LOL! I've told him at times that that's part of his problem; he agrees!
okay; change of topic here: I have ar 9/54; what is the other ( letter word?
9 letter word (sorry)
re 7/8/9/8 (re9/54 if you want the stats)
thanks rbud. Now to find it. :-)
GOT IT! Thank you rbud! :-D
there may be more of those in that group, not sure, hahaha...
wow, so fast, too! :D
...now to hunt for that ar9 YOU mentioned! heehee
plural of the 8/40
ar 9/54; let me know if you'd like a hint
I have 14 re words; how many more can there be?
i have 22 :)
you've got a long way to go .... there are 26
got the 8 and 9, thanks, Nef and doseffing
Thanks Leslie & dose; I have a lot more work to do. :-/
yw, rbud.
hahaha, just put in "fear" - giggled when I saw "fear" does not exist in the puzzle
sort of a philosophical statement? :D
LOL! That's great, rbud!
okay, I'm weird... ;)
at least it didn't say that this puzzle will cause fear in the Babblers! ;-)
:D
re6/18(the one after to sit again).....clue please.
to organize again?
ty Nef
Or, book a vacation at a re6/18 on a lake?
reten
sorry
No problem; not a word
Renet
(other box, Gitel)
(Also, not a word)
Sorry. Glad it is not a word!
Oh, don't worry. I'm the one who puts words in chat all the time & spend time in the PB all the time. :-)
... and done ... 20% of the praise be to lickety ... may I offer a clue for anyone? ...
.... then I'll go back to watching Sherlock ... g'night and good luck to all ... 'til tomorrow
Good Night, dose.
I still have 150 words left to find; but I'm really getting tired now.
st6/18(right after the ship part)
do you have the pl for a grocery st 5/10?
(I think that that's the nest st 6/18
next, not nest
grocery?
the building grocery st5/10
Yes ....this is before that one.
The only st6/18 after the ship part is what Nef clued. Before that is plural of cattle, plural of fixed gaze and plural of Scot for rock.
St40....st10 and then st6/18....is what I need, please
the one before the portico.
that's the pl of the st5 before it
got it ty all ...FIREWORKS!!!!!!
Okay, I'm confused because the st6/18 before the portico is not the one after the ship part.
But it looks like you found it somehow.
YAY aebmusica!!! WTG!!!
I did ...I didn't have the male cattle or pl.
she was missing the pl of the how to drive a caraction
hello 309 to go
what's a caraction?
car action lol
or a cow
nbt nbs
Sorry, fell asleep here. Good night everyone
