now I am salivating :D

hi origami! oh yes, ruru, how did the crème brulee come out?
I sautéed some shallots (minced) with fresh thyme and then cooked them slowly in a vegetable stock
the crème brulees were the hit of the evening.
had me at shallots and thyme
vanilla bean/ bourbon (whistle Pig bourbon) crème brulees with fresh raspberries .. delish

yeah.. I wanted you to know as a follow up.. I've just been moving slowly today.. must be getting older

I grill the mushrooms on a grill pan on the stove (just the tops).. then I sautee them with olive oil, chipolini onions, balsamic vinegar and a tablespoon of soy sauce (had to get gluten free soy sauce for last night)

and add salt and pepper at the last minute
I put the stems in beef stock with walla walla onions and reduce with butter and red wine until concentrated and the put the beef tenderloin on a pile of the mushrooms and drizzle the sauce over it
(straining off the onions and the stems of course)
I am sooooo hungry right now

it's really easy.. sautéing the mushrooms until tender is the work.. but they come out chewy and delicious in the end
back in a bit - must start laundry
sounds great. mushrooms are beefy and take well to thyme and red wine.

Citrus/Champagne (vinegar) Vinaigrette with Dijon Mustard and Olive oil.. Arugula, watermelon Radishes, Grapefruit sections, fennel, chives, avocadoes, and fresh crab

had to google watermelon radishes - they look like fun! nice combo with the grapefruit, a little astrigent against the rich crabmeat and avocado
i use texas ruby red grapefruits.. they're sweeter

the watermelon radishes have a little pepperiness and heat to them
i julienned them and tossed it with the fennel and arugula and then added everything else
it's a colorful salad and is delish
here, i have to be satisfied with whatever grapefruits (any fruit, any vegetable) that i can find
yeah.. produce in Canada sucks big time.. i had a lot of trouble cooking dinner at Jilli's house ..
i just posted a link to those radishes to my daughter - they'd be a nice addition to her garden (and kitchen)
they're great.. you have to peel them though
we've learned to adapt, ru - make do with what we can get our hands on, and be grateful when something 'exotic,' like jicama, makes it to the market

i love fennel, sounds great with the other ingredients.
the trick with the fennel TO is to slice it very thinly and steam it for ONE minute and then put it in an ice bath immediately to not over cook.. then add it to the salad.. it's great that way

JBsAnno, I thought that the commercials were very good; especially the coke one & although I was confused by the 84 Lumber ad; when I went to their website & watched the whole ad; I was pretty darned awestruck by it.
Oh, yeah; I loved the Minnesota ad too! ;-) My daughter works for Explore Minnesota (Minnesota's state tourism department; the Super Bowl will be here next year; & she says they are already gearing up for it now.)
Nef, compared to previous years, I think I will forget most of these commercials pretty quickly, I just didn't get hooked by them. Although I do admit that I missed some because I had to be out of the room for other things.

I understand. If you were distracted during one or another of the ads, they may not have made much sense. I watched the Lumber 84 ad (with family here); and 3 of us all had different impressions of it. But I just Googled them about 1/2 hour ago & was amazed by it. I definitely encourage anyone to go & watch it & see what you think.
