1:55 am

1:56 am

how are you sweetie? still able to rest overnight?

1:58 am

about ready for the vacation, actually, I am tired. Did an evening shift last night, so in bed too late. Slept okayish. Today is not too bad though, just shopping groceries and cooking, for 2 days, we will bring pasta sauce ready to eat for our first day camping out. Almost everything is packed.

1:58 am

oh well done you!!

1:59 am

hey all. just got the 11. whoo hoo!

1:59 am

yay m91

2:00 am

yeah and Rob too. We organised the whole thing together, with packing lists and shopping lists. It works like a charm. While I was working last night, Rob loaded everything that was ready in the .... ugh, have to look up the word. Thing on wheels that you hitch behind your car, in which you can pack some things and on which you can load the canoes.

2:00 am

wtg m9, and hi

2:01 am

trailer, sprite

2:01 am

I figured it out by looking at letter beginnings that sounded like a good possibility and then looked at morewords for something, LOL

2:01 am

trailer it is, thanks

2:01 am

packing brain.LOL

2:02 am

nice going, m9! Atalante, a former babbler, used to say that that is research :)

2:03 am

Exactly! I'm proud of myself for not looking back in the chat for the beginning letter even.

2:03 am

indeed! So much more satisfactory, isn't it, this way

2:04 am

But I'm not liking this gr4 much, lol. 76 to go and it's slow

2:04 am

yeah I didn't feel like I had the flying start I expect with grids this size, either

2:06 am

snotto - cave overgrown with slimy moss

2:06 am

2:06 am

*giggles* Ikr!

2:07 am

I suppose it could be soft singing because you're congested: snotto voce...

2:07 am

2:08 am

2:10 am

2:10 am

2:11 am

oh, nice!

2:11 am

I can't even remember what songs I ended up slated for...

2:11 am

lol! I hope you wrote it down somewhere.

2:11 am

It should be fun. We're going to have a little jazz band. Do two song sets with dancing in between.

2:12 am

brilliant. Wish I could come and watch.

2:12 am

I did! but left the list at the directors... I hope

2:12 am

It's going to be quite swank.. with dinner and formal dress required.

2:13 am

wow! Real classy.

2:16 am

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'm doing I Get a Kick Out of You and Just One of Those Things..but I'm not sure what else.

2:16 am

There's three of us singing.

2:16 am

I like those songs

2:19 am

Maybe Begin the Beguine

2:19 am

nice!

2:36 am

2:40 am

2:40 am

*hugs m9* Bye all! See you in a week.

ge11, please?

4:28 am

Sorry, Marc, been looking since you asked for it but as of yet not found it.

4:29 am

It starts like the study of old age, or age and ends like a word that starts with demo and is the opposite of Republican

4:31 am

Not seen that word before. Many thanks, Molly!

4:32 am

And excellent clue by the way.

4:35 am

It doesn't exactly roll off your tongue, Zoom. : D A council of elders, I like the meaning.

4:35 am

Thanks Molly I'd never have found that

4:38 am

I'm stocking up the PB and the PB bar. I expect a lot of people will be through there with gr4 in the gr4. : )

Good morning

7:53 am

Hi Car. I have been lurking and typing away.

7:54 am

((Scrabs)) I haven't been on for days. How are things?

7:55 am

Did you have a nice Easter?

7:55 am

I am doing well. Today starts my on-call weekend however. I start work at 1pm, work tomorrow morning too, and am on call until Monday 8am. It's a marathon.

7:55 am

Name that proper noun! famous Italian opera

7:56 am

oh, hi Scrabs and car

7:56 am

Yikes! Rest when you can. I remember when my mom had those weekends.

7:56 am

I stayed home all weekend and did some yardwork.

7:56 am

Hi Dorens!

7:56 am

morning children

7:56 am

Doren, I haven't seen you in a long time. How are you?

7:56 am

Hi Evanonut!

7:56 am

And Nutty has become a regular again!

7:56 am

morning evan!

7:57 am

I'm doing well scrabbs, just keeping low profile, such as it is

7:57 am

weekdays anyway. gotta keep my weekends for protests and dog cuddles.

7:57 am

Enjoying retirement, Doren?

7:57 am

I see you're keeping busy SCrabbs. nut, are you doing a big protest tomorrow? We are

7:57 am

Hi evan, Dorens, Scrabs, car

7:58 am

hello...may I have stats for the right E pls?

7:58 am

7:58 am

Whoops! I see the right one now! Sorry

7:58 am

Hi phaeton and bichon

7:58 am

ty dorens

7:59 am

er 4/6 as well

7:59 am

morning everyone

7:59 am

Hi Jan

7:59 am

Dorens, i'm joining the satellite march for science in pittsburgh. don't know if it will be big or not.

7:59 am

Our congressman is chair of appropriations committee.. Used to talk a lot about the environment and says he still cares, so we're trying to pressure him to remember his conscience. We worked hard on him on ACA and it seems to have helped, alhough one never truly knows the motives of a successful politician. But he did say he couldn't vote for it about an hour before it was pulled

7:59 am

Good morning

8:00 am

Hello everyone I missed

8:00 am

nutty, everything we join helps.. can't control the size of it, but it matters.

8:01 am

Yea Dorens. Glad I live in CT where I am proud of our electees

8:01 am

i'm doing what i can, i missed the womens march not realizing there were sister marches all over. so i'll do better in the future.

8:01 am

and hello phae, bichon and jan

8:02 am

i'm proud of my senators (NJ) but actually it's nice to have this dingdong congressman to focus on. Really gives a sense of purpose, rather than generalized frustration and discontent.

8:03 am

Ummmm...why isn't "realtor" a word?

8:03 am

Scrabbler, how are the boys doing?

8:03 am

Am I spelling it wrong? Who am I working with in order to buy a house?

8:03 am

car, you know enable!

8:03 am

i write several times a week. i gave up calling because no one answers when a seedy bill is up.

8:04 am

Enable is fickle

8:04 am

Enable is stoooopid

8:04 am

We call daily and visit his office weekly, delivering letters to him and chatting with his staff, who are very nice (as are we), all very civil.

8:05 am

I think there is an extra vowel in there somewhere

8:05 am

You are a champ

8:06 am

retired people have time to do these things. i'm very lucky. But now I have to go drive down to Rockville to visit 94 year old Aunt Juliet. Nice to see you all..

8:07 am

would love to be able to do that much

8:08 am

nut, you are still working. Good that you do what you have time for!! Later, gators!

8:09 am

Doren, the boys are doing very well. I visit them every Monday and they stayed here one weekend in March. I think Jaxson is showing signs of kindergarten readiness although no boy is ready for what current kindergarten does to children. Drill and grill all day...worksheets..no time for play...so sad.

8:09 am

I felt the same way about preschool. Thank goodness the one we chose focused on play and creativity first!

8:10 am

Montessori schools or Reggio Emilia are great for that

8:11 am

Jax loves to play, to be creative, to do imaginative play--that is what early childhood is about. But to make kids sit still and do worksheets all day in K and 1st grade is developmentally inappropriate.

8:12 am

Most schools haave Common Core and are tested on that. Yuck

8:14 am

Yes, there needs to be a complete rehaul of elementary education.

8:15 am

Schools are rated by the test scores. Some kids don't test well.

8:20 am

I think the underlying problem is that kids are advanced to the next grade when they have not mastered their current grade level, then they get further behind. Basic reading and math skills must be mastered by 3rd grade or so before kids are so far behind.

8:28 am

the underlying problem in America is that we don't spend enough of our money on schools and teachers

8:28 am

period

8:30 am

it's true - and when one looks ahead, one really sees that the civic budget of the future will need to put more money into that, but also lots should be directed to elder care and mental health care.

8:31 am

yes. instead of the military and supporting other countries, and nasa, and other wasteful tax dollars spent

8:32 am

Phone call.

8:32 am

supporting other countries is a miniscule portion of the budget, it's like 1-2%. the military is the real huge one, yeah.

8:33 am

no, sorry, it's LESS than 1% of the budget

8:33 am

that maybe true.. but we've been giving money to Saudi Arabia for years that could be spent here.. they're better off than we are

8:33 am

foreign aid

8:33 am

hundreds of millions

8:35 am

what our teachers are paid for their work is criminal

8:35 am

in my opinion

8:36 am

shrink the military and reform (not kill) the welfare system. oh, and not start all these "not wars"

8:36 am

i'm with you on all three of those too nutty

8:38 am

thanks ruru, where i live, it's always refreshing to have some like minded conversation.

8:39 am

Off to rehearsal...have a great day everyone!

8:39 am

I also agree with Hurshy's comments on Mental health and caring for the elderly..

8:39 am

where are you getting that 'hundreds of millions' idea for saudi arabia, ru? the state dept figures i found say that in FY2013 for instance, it was $19,000.

8:40 am

when I think about all the useless military spending we do around the world

8:40 am

I read it in an article hurshy.. the bush regime funneled hundreds of millions into Saudi for some lame reasons.

8:41 am

I think the state "figures" lie in this case

8:41 am

really wouldn't trusty any government website figures currently.

8:42 am

good morning all. help with the ge11. I saw Molly's clue earlier but I cannot get it to work

8:42 am

consensus reality

8:43 am

well, maybe the bush regime did but then it stopped.

8:43 am

possibly

8:44 am

we've already spent more with Trumps protection and travel in a few months than Obama did during his both his terms

8:45 am

nm figured it out

8:45 am

and trump was one of the people saying it was ridiculous how we were giving millions to saudi arabia, so if the state department figures from 4 years ago do not reflect that, it just shows another way he is wrong, therefore, i don't think the state dept figures would be LOW - but also, it's a congressional budget report from BEFORE trump. so i think it is not crazy to believe.

8:46 am

and factcheck.org cites this report as a basis for info

8:46 am

I don't think we should be spending a dime in the middle east

8:47 am

Israel and Egypt get a lot - billions for military aid.

8:47 am

iraq, jordan, pakistan - hundreds of millions

8:47 am

ok.. you just proved my point hursh.. wasteful millions

8:48 am

when did Molly clue the GE 11

8:49 am

i proved millions and billions in foreign military aid. i said it is not going to saudia arabia. and how much of it is 'wasteful' is certainly not something i am qualified to determine. but i do want to reduce military spending.

8:49 am

be sure to tour the municipal house in Prague if you can manage it on your free time and it isn't included in your tour. It is entirely decorated in art nouveau style -- beautiful. You have to book a tour though and they only have a limitied number of them per day.

11:42 am

oh - don't waste your time on the hop on hop off bus in Prague -- it is useless - Martin's tours much better

11:44 am

If you are going to be in Paris for any length of time on your own the best advice I can give is to get a copu of the "Eye Witness Guide Paris" --- best series of guidebooks we've ever used.

11:45 am

Been to Paris several times. This trip we waant to go to Giverny

11:46 am

Have fun -- you will be impressed with how polite all the young people in Prague are.

11:47 am

Oh yes -- I remember you saying that now -- delightful garden. Josephine Bonaparte's house, Malmaison, is close by as well.

11:47 am

don't care for pork, but do pig out on duck when travelling in Europe.

11:53 am

That's a good way of expressing that sentiment

11:54 am

I made a duck as well as a turkey for Thanksgiving. I'm the only one who ate it

11:55 am

Oh -- btw -- there is a deli in the building across the street from that 100 shop mall in Republic Square in Prague that sells excellent fois gras at great prices - pigged out on that too!

11:57 am

I love duck. yum! but not fois gras.

11:58 am

there is a grocery store in the same building - hubby just said that he bought some fois gras in the market at republic square also as well as in the gourmet shop in the 100 store mall.

5:14 pm

Well, I wrote the wrong word that I wanted people to be aware of in that comment. I should have said Note the word "Yet" re: posting words into chat. No wonder it's quiet here. Thanks, Molly for catching that.

5:21 pm

Oh, no problem. I keep waiting for people to post the gr4 word in the chat.

5:26 pm

Always good to come back with fresh eyes so to speak.

5:38 pm

5:38 pm

I always have to take a break or 2 to see new words.

5:38 pm

Nice. I wish you a slow pace this weekend.

5:38 pm

You too, Car :-)

5:39 pm

5:39 pm

Although it is 11:39pm here.

5:39 pm

First 2 patients of the morning are "behavior problems". Ages 4 and 6, siblings. Rather feral is how I would describe them.

5:40 pm

who the parents :-)

5:41 pm

Oh, my, Scrabs. That sounds awful! (Sometimes I thought my kids acted that way; but only with each other; & they knew how to act normal most of the time)

5:42 pm

Father moved away 3 years ago. Mother even left the kids with the grandparents for a year or so when she chased another guy. She return 2 yrs ago. We see these feral kids regularly: undisciplined, wild, out of control.

5:42 pm

I was talking with a teachers' assistant at my grandsons' elementary school thisAM. She said that so many kids with behavior problems just don't get attention from anyone at home. (I felt so bad for some of the kids she told me about;I wanted to cry!)

5:43 pm

I don't mean just her kids, I mean we see these type of kids are far too common because too many parents are not behaving like parents.

5:43 pm

Hence why I said the parents.

5:44 pm

So true, Nef! Parents are self-absorbed! Immature, irresponsible, unable to set their wants aside to meet their kids needs. So we see an abundance of sad and angry kids.

5:45 pm

From what I was told today; I'm seriously thinking of talking with DH to see if I could volunteer for part time next year

5:45 pm

Good morning. What sad situations. What do they expect you to do Scrabbler?

5:45 pm

Hello, Lynxxx :-)

5:46 pm

Hi lynxxx

5:48 pm

It is so unfortunate when parents or care takers put their personal needs before the needs of the children they are taking care of.

5:48 pm

Happy babbling everyone.

5:48 pm

congrats Zooz, sweet dreams

5:49 pm

YAY, Zoozz!!! WTG!!!

5:50 pm

Most parents come with a report from the teacher to have their child "tested" for ADHD. But all young kids are inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive, and should become less so as they get to be 8 or 9, because of development AND their parents teach them self-control and self-discipline.

5:50 pm

Yay zooz. Sleep well.

5:52 pm

It really is, Molly. And some of these kids have absolutely unbelievable home lives too. This gal (who is the grandma of my grandson's dear friend) was telling me about a boy confiding in her that he doesn't know who his dad is & his mom has 3 or 4 boyfriends that come & go a lot.

5:53 pm

It's true, Nef.

5:55 pm

as a T.A. she takes a child out of the classroom or to the back of the room & helps him with his reading (or mother whatever) & she says that she thinks this boy and maybe others just crave that 1 on 1 attention; he's sweet kid if someone is paying attention to him.

5:56 pm

It is sad, Nef. I hear so many stories about how parents or care takers put their personal needs before the needs of the children they take care of. It's like the kids come in second to their dinner plans and vacation plans.

5:56 pm

(that was "or whatever", not sure where that "mother" came from)

5:57 pm

Even during office visits parents are texting--or taking calls--instead of answering my questions or listening to my recommendations. They cannot even spend 15 minutes focused on their own kid.

5:57 pm

Spell check

6:00 pm

It is a regular thing for me to see parents walking down the street with their kids, not holding their hands, not minding them, because the parent is so focused on their cell phone.

6:01 pm

I volunteer & do vision & hearing screening each year; and we had a 10 or 11 yr old Hmong boy who could only see the largest letter on the chart. I asked him he had glasses; he said they were in his book bag, so I told him to go get them. They were his sisters' glasses that she'd grown out of; it's a very poor family and they share; I wanted to take him & have his eye exam & get the glasses for him!

6:02 pm

(I was told I couldn't do that; but I could donate $$$ to a fund at school & they could take care of that instead.)

6:03 pm

pfft !

6:03 pm

Nef, you are like the caretaker of the world.

6:05 pm

BTW, Molly, my keyboard is very quirky, that's why I use spellcheck all the time. My arthritis in my hands is really painful right now & I will be seeing the surgeon the beginning of May; but this keyboard is the easiest to use for me)

6:06 pm

And, yes, Molly, lots of nurses end up with a caretaker complex. I do wear my heart on my sleeve at times.

6:09 pm

And, the last time I was at school, I was told that he now had had his eye exam & had his own glasses! :-)

6:10 pm

Very good.

6:10 pm

Yay!!!!

6:14 pm

Yeah. The T.A. told me the principal (a male) is very aware & really gets involved with some of these kids. One kid wasn't showing up for school on time or at all & he had the mom come in And told her that she would lose her kids if they got reported to social services. She said he stands out in the front of school & waits (even after the bell rings) for some of the troubled kids to come in. They do all sorts of things to help the kids & families that are too poor or their lives are too chaotic

6:16 pm

That's what ou do when you really care and are committed to improving the future of kids.

6:18 pm

I like this school district, (they're emphasis isn't on sports, but rather the kids; my son says); but this particular elementary school is really great too

6:19 pm

Oh Nef, so glad the spell check helps with your arthritis. Yay!!! Nurses as care takers, yes. That makes sense.

6:20 pm
