a few very odd words in this one
we seem to be on a streak of those. Interesting. Yesterday's id8 was a highly complicated way of saying fit, apt
good luck on the au7
doesn't jump out to me for sure
ah, found it
good for you.. took me ten minutes to figure it out
looks german. Different 3rd letter than I expected. It means 'to subject (steel or other metals) to a hardening process that increases its strength and improves its wear properties'
kind of like Viagra for metal?
probably one of the times that being dutch actually helps, lol.
yeah, though hopefully the effect does not wear off that fast
yeah.. you don't want those rods to wear out
imagine them going soft after a few hours. How is that for stuff going south
Retractable bridges
only good for one time though
Hi there y'all. Sure could use a clue for that au6-24 the 2nd. Thanks much
hiya peach *hugs* how are you holding up?
Au plus most to to wake up someone
She's gone, sprite. I've been trying how to tell you all. She died friday just after noon. I just feel empty. Need

hi sprite and all.
Thanks so much, sandyloo.

good night all
I
I'm back.
is the au7 related in any way to the au6? Please and thanks
no peach. and firstly i would like to offer you my sincerest condolences honey. xoxox
au7. first 3 letters of my country + ****er, previous.
Thanks much, rose. It's been roughl because I can no longer travel. I seem to be stuck here.
that would be tough. if someone could drive you, would that help?
I can't have my feet and legs down for the driving time...poor circulation. I can no longer fly. I'll have to remember and the good times we had. Thank you for caring, rose.
peach, honey, when we were overseas, and my feet swelled i sat in the back seat, side on, with my legs up on the seat.
I thought about you a lot during that time....sent prayers for you and Don to be safe. I'm glad you went but I am also glad your home again. LOL
thanx for your prayers sweetie. we pray for all my american friends every night, plus a lot of others too.
peach, please know you are in my heart everyday. xoxox
Thank so very much, rose. You and your family are in mine too.
I have to feed one of my dogs and give him insulin....back shortly.
I just now checked the news on tv.....Hurricane damage to the gulf coast is horrible.....my sister-in-law who is 92 years old was going to stay at home (Corpus Christi) I kept
my mouth shut .....but her son-in-law said they had to evacuate......so the loaded up the whole family, including dogs chickens and birds and left for higher ground.....of course half of the population were evacuating too.....traffic was really bad. But they are about 4 hours inland now but don't know when they
will be able to, at least, check on their home. Hopefully it withstood the weather.
I'm about two and a half hours from the Atlantic coast....several years ago one hit Savahhah and Charleston and we had really high winds and rain. I got into the bath tub (with two little dogs and a very heavy comfortor
and hunkered down. Thankfully not much wind damage...just a few shingles had to be replaced.
Hi all. Does anyone have stats for the U in the second row, second column?
Sorry, matty, don't have it.

Hi Ruby. How was your lunch yesterday?
It was super -- mussels, fries, roasted peppers and zucchini -- and very good company
And m
And m
Yummmm!
l make the sangria
Double yum!
Do you know the "sangria trick"?
Nooooo....do tell...?
The night before, slice some oranges, cover with sugar and then add a bottle of brandy or cognac
Oooh - what a great idea!
That way, when you add thye red wine andc ice cubes, it doesn't become watery
It's strong and very tasty
Mmmmmmmm. I'm salivating at the thought. I'd better go clean up the drool - I shall get in the shower!
or get a bib
Phantom - turmeric
Phantom: azimuth
Wow, things look bleak in Houston. That hurricane is hitting hard.
My son, who lives in Austin, was visiting his in-laws in Rochester, and has decided to stay there for now.
Hello, Molly
I thought your boy lived in Texas. I'm glad he is somewhere safe.
His house backs up to a ravine with a mostly-dry creek. It always floods, but, so far, has never reached the house.
However, snakes come up on his deck LOL
Isn't oscar a kind of fish -- a cichlid?
... Wikipedia says it is ... and they spell it with an "o" ... but I wonder if the dictionary here spells it with an "O" ...
FEMA in the grid -- how ironic
phantom: azimuth
Hello everybody

hi sue
hi bichon
ac 7/36, pls
I am looking, bichon, but I just started.
Hi, are you off on your trip yet?
We leave Wednesday morning and are staying with a friend north of Boston. So we have two days of 6-7 hr drives instead of one day of 12+ hrs.
hi all...
It's a slow drive after you get off the highway
hi pen
hi bichon...
scrabs....you're not stopping at LL Bean on your way home?...
Hi Penquis.
good morning, babblers!
Mama and Baby K!
New picture of baby K
tis us! (well, one of us, anyway) :)
CNN forecaster re Houston: "Additional rain will exasperate the problem."
precious pic, eva!
TY une :)
91 and bam
clue the ac7 please
Une, TY for the info on Acadia from your daughter. It has helped me narrow down the list of hikes. We also will bike and kayak a lot.
so, just back from a lovely week at the beach + Baby K is now in the Toddler's section at day care instead of the infants section! ::sniffle::
yw scrabs :-)
scrabs....if you are into LL Bean stuff, there is a factory outlet in Ellsworth....you will probably drive right past it...
scrabs, that Scottish poem was fascinating yesterday--just before you came on, and I'd left. If you ever want a camo in Vermont close to the green mountain trails, I have one sitting there on a small lake good for kayaking. with a pair of loons.
That is a big step up, Mama.
who told him hes allowed to GROW UP???
camp, that is, as cottages are called in Vermont. Good swimming, good fireplace and wood, but at present no toilet--we used a porta-p this summer while trying to figure what to do environmentally and economically--to replace the unfisxable and now unallowed plumbing--
Penquis, I LOVE LL Bean clothing--that's all I wear is casual clothes, at work too.
RB, I think about your camp often. I need more time to travel yet I need to work and earn money for fun.
with a slight detour, you could go the flagship store in Freeport....ope 24 hrs. a day, seven days a week, all year round...
*ope....geez....starting to use Babble words in conversation*....
I intentionally looked for Freeport but knowing that there is another store on our route makes me HAPPY.
scrabs, I follow you on chat. Had I an address I'd send you books--mine are full of cow diseases--some human ones--we sneaked out on our last day of measles quarentine to go to a corn husking contest at the next farm--
Now use the word yince.
well it's not as big as the flagship store....and in Freeport, you have an outlet store as well as the flagship store...
I can give your daughter my address, RB, as we are friends on FB. I just saw the story about Shelby.
hah....yince you suggested it, perhaps i will... ;o)
I finished yesterday's grid last evening and had to search for some odd words.
I don't see facebook, the kids didn't want me to get addicted--I better ask her about Shelby. Do give her your address on facebook. While I still drove to Vermont (now I fly unless a grandkid drives me) I went right by you--hadn't known of you then, though Rasta must have.
rasta, you seem to be on line unless out milking a goat. Tell me about Shelby.
does yince mean since, too? In the line I grew up with, it meant once--and in the poem welki provided as its source
no, i was just joking around...
a word for an instrument that punctures a cow with bloat is in the grid again today--not your everyday word. maybe its used for something else, too.
I will let Rasta tell you about Shelby.
morning, babblers

10.) Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath…. This made him a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

(note to ruru: i had to take bax to the vet today. while i was there, he told me that he'd attended a seminar where they were speaking about CADI (which is now called CytoPoint, i think). it's available here now, or will be shortly, and he's going to get back to me with pricing. He says some vets prefer it over Apoquel. So thank you for telling me about it.)
hello all!
may I ask for help with fa7 please?
Hi nrkii
nrk!! nice to 'see' you!
evening all - miss2bit's first day of 2nd grade was a hit!
a french satirist
hi, dan - 2nd grade already - and she likes it! you've prepared her well
Dan, how did miss 2bit get old enough to be in second grade?
got it, thank you
thanks! wht, I blinked :-)
maybe not satirist - a comedian, perhaps
could you please clue that differently?...it's one of the two words i have let...
left...
fa5 slapstick, add a fancy french suffix
she was a little apprehensive - the program she's in is partial spanish immersion - she gets her science and math instruction from one teacher in the morning in spanish, and reading and writing from another in the afternoon
hmmm....
this is her first year in immersion?
her 1st grade Spanish teacher was not great, but Senora Obondo has made a fantastic first impression
penquis, think of the French word for mister... last two letters
what a smartypants!
aha - so she's already there, just a new year (with a better teacher)
i am done...
ty cluers....
yes, and a household with no spanish speakers, so there's been backsliding (yay pen!)
ty, dan...
my eldest daughter took spanish in junior high and high school and decided, at age 16, that she wanted to do a year of foreign exchange in argentina - was she surprised! (but came home bilingual)
looking back I should have said "reading and writing in english - it's a great program for her classmates who speak Spanish at home as well.
would you and mrs. 2bit consider pulling her out of the program? or part of it?
we might consider it, but it's so so so good for flexible brain development. Even if she never becomes bilingual
weirdly, 2nd grade is sort of a high stakes testing year in our county system - she may have opportunities for academic acceleration in English that she might not get from the immersion program. It could be a tough choice next year
Maybe you and mrs 2bit can learn Spanish as well. :^)
family squad goals
that's a brilliant idea, wht - i'm sitting here thinking i'd feel so inadequate if i hadn't been able to help with homework
I have enough French in the back of my brain that I can get by at this level, and mrs2bit has about the same level of Spanish. Aunt Debbie, who lives close by, is pretty fluent for a gringo :-)
but sooner than later she will pass us by
clue for the fu6,33 please.
they always do, like it or not :D
more odorous
When they become a teen-ager, they think they are smarter than you. A little bit later it is true.
ty welki. I guess I am not twisted enough.
that word really does wind itself around the board, wht
I read some fascinating research summary a while back about how necessary that teen "rebellion" is to their mature stages of brain development and adult success
the hormones have a purpose :-)
that was just someone trying to rationalize the hysteria
hahaha welki, maybe.
although i'd probably say 10-12 was worse than the teens
Fireworks finally.
nice work wht
Good night all
