FWs....some weird words.
i think this is a tough grid
Good morning
Better a tough grid than more news of lrma! As l lived and worked for many years in Miami, l still have many rriends there. Some have evacuated, some have stocked up, boarded up and hunkered down.
Very scary ruby -
who needs terrorists when nature can wreak such havoc
I've checked on all of them, but the storm hasn't yet reached Florida (or at least not at 3AM when l stopped watching the news)
l'm sorry l never got to Durban, was always working in PE.
From what l've heard, Durban is a lovely place with great food!
rani
rata
sorry; l'll keep quiet
I jusy heard frommy old friend Jane who is in Tampa and although she bpoarded up, she probably has to evacute. She has many cats and a beloved dog and is terrified.
I feel so sorry for everyone in all these horrible situations, from hurricanes to earthquakes to fires, so many with so much to lose and not knowing how to deal with it all.
I'd say I've never felt luckier living where I do, with none of this to deal with, but I'm almost afraid it would jinx things.
The photographs of the mass exodus from Florida show that most people are taking this seriously.
I think when the projected main area of danger moved from the east side of the state to the west side, many were caught by surprise. Though really, the thing is statewide.
Although l miss the sea, l'm glad to bee here, not in Miami, but so many friends and old work colleagues in Florida!
anyone seen anything about what it's doing to Cuba? I keep wondering, but the news and weather people just keep on about Florida, and seem to have very little to say about it.
It feels like the Apocalypse: firees, floods, earthquakes and Wind -- and Nortth Korea!!!
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!
Last night, reporting from Cuba, although the cpountry is militarized and well-prepared, living conditions are mostly squalid
four horsemen lurking around the fringes...?
Hurricane Irma was a Category 5 when it hit Cuba. I'm sure it is causing significant damage.
I imagine so.
And although it had diminished to a 4, it's back up to a 5, picking up warm water in the Florida st*****s
I hope Une is stocked up and ready to hunker down. Nashville is in the path of what happens after Florida.
l think it's time for a stoly vodka bloody Marry and a big prayer!
There are so many elders who retire in Florida. I hope there is some plan in place to help them evacuate safely.
I have friends who evacuated to Atlanta and the Carolinas
I think the mayor of Miami Beeach was having rescuers go door-to-door to evacuate the elderly who live in tiny apartments all over that area
it was quite something to see eight or ten lanes of freeway all going north, instead of four or five each way like normal!
It's like wattching a Hollywood catastrophe movie!
I saw one fellow in charge of emergency services saying they were working from a list of folks with special needs, medical and otherwise, making sure to check them all and do what they could to help.
It is not unprecedented for hurricanes to cause significant damage throughout the State of Florida. People should keep that in mind and always have a hurricane preparedness plan to rely on.
Husband and l sat out Andrew at our office on the beach because Fisher Island waas evacuated and we had a dog
but Andrew was half the size of Irma
one girl on one of the islands it hit earlier sticks in my mind, she and pets and family were in a bathtub, I think it was, in the basement, and she said it was horribly loud and scary until the house above finally blew away, then it got better. Wow.
I presume it didn't take her ceiling with it, but...
lucky to be alive!
really!
was in a similar situation when I was about 9 or 10. We'd gone to visit Mom's sister and mother in Kansas, and one of the biggest tornados they'd seen for a long time happened to come through. All of us in the basement, lots of noise, and we came out to find the whole house gone. Except for one kitchen wall, with the china cabinet basically untouched.
I think I've been a little weird ever since, haha!
Wow - that's Yellow Brick Road all over again Rosebud
Whatt an experience for you rbud! Hello lynxx
yes, I've always cringed a bit during that part of the movie, don't ya know. :P
Hi Ruby and puppies
surprised you can watch it at all
woof
typed something, hit enter, it went away... the morning tantrum, I guess.
I'd said that Miss Gulch and her bicycle always fascinated me for some reason. (in the Oz movie).
Now they're evacuating Georgia's coastal areas.
where on earth do all the people go - wasn't it 6M from one place - do they just drive inland?
I'd be tempted to just keep going and never look back, like some people I talked to after 9/11. They never wanted anything to do with NYC again, put the family in a rented car, and started west, with no real destination in mind.
That was two days afterwards.
(he'd been driving most of the two days.)
but then I've lived in Florida before, and didn't like it that much to start with, what can I say.
*picturing Disneyworld in ruins* - wouldn't that be something.
That poor island, Barbuda? is it? is 90% devastated and fixing to get hit again by the next one! I can't even imagine what that's like.
Terrible region to live in
One of the dangers of living in an overly populated place like New York City (over 8 million) is what could happen if everyone started trying to leave at once.
oh, yes, bottlenecked bridges, all that. What a mess.
goodnight all - and good luck
night, lynx
back. l loved living in Miami, but l'm really glad to have left
This place is perfect!
All I usually have to worry about here are tornados, I get scared to death two or three times a year. Other than that, not bad.
When l lived in Carbondale, there was a tornado shelter under the building but, luckily, we only had warnings
goodness, ruby, you have lived all over, it sounds like.
good morning all. help with the E pls.

II also know several people who live in Fla. 3 of them retired there. and I have a friend who is on a cruise to the carribean too!
ty Molly
I can't believe they have not pulled all Caribbean cruises in to shore.
I understand that the cruise was rerouted but I do not know where. Why do they even book cruises during hurrican season? Seems really stupid to me
My parents went to live there, first as snowbirds, then for the full year. After my dad passed, she came back here to Assisted Living. She really need us.
It seems stupid to me too Peri. And no offense to your friend, but I'm not sure why anyone would risk a cruise at this time of year.
it was probably inexpensive but that is no reason to risk your life. Not only are the passengers in danger but the crew as well.
on to lighter things. I am going to a 5th birthday party later today.
I only have one 7 the ma7/32. no 8's.
*Fluffs dainty pillows for "lighter talk"
We did a Norwegian cruise last year. It was bad enough on the open sea with no hurricane

Greetings, y'all!
pr 8/50, pls
Hi, Bich. Haven't got that one yet.
ty Judi
Me either...but I'm only playing a bit...more watching the news channels about Irma and Jose.
Yes. Keeping a close eye on that too,Cathy. My 86 year old step mom is in Kissimmee all by herself. However, she is in a cinderblock house with a fairly new roof, no trees around. Neighbors all looking out for her as well.
OMG Judy! Poor lady! Does she have someone at least staying with her during the storm?
Sorry...Judi
My aunt is on a cruise ship, heading west past Mexico. Extended trip due to the hurricane. She and my step-mom live about four doors from each other on the same street.
My step-mom is very able and healthy. The one neighbor has promised to take her into their house if things get really ugly.
Is Kissimmee in the storm surge area?
Kissimmee is near Orlando. Middle of the state. Still, the storm is wider than the whole state of Florida. The whole state is going to get whooped up on.
did you all see the news about the Delta flight that landed & took off from San Juan airport between the "arms" of the hurricane?
No...I didn't see that Dan.
I did read that, Dan. Talk about threading the needle.
Sounds so frightening to be there right now! :-( I'm in Nova Scotia and thought Hurricane Juan was bad a bunch of years back when it hit us as a Cat 2!
https://tinyurl.com/y7u4bur2 has some tweets and maps about it
pretty heroic teamwork all around
Wow!!! More than just one plane trying to beat it! Amazing link Dan! Thanks!
Brass ones to be willing to pilot those planes. And to just be willing to fly as a passenger on them.
Agreed Judi!
