*hugs flosey* Did you have a nice day?
sure is that
yes thanks Sprite, a quiet day at home, restful
guess that's why I'm still up at this hour
lovely. I had one of those yesterday too. Did a lot of knitting, so peaceful.
I must take that up again. Last thing I knit was a heavy winter (outdoor) sweater for my son
wow, sounds good. Those are heavy on the needles though.
yes but I did enjoy knitting it - that must have been about 10 or more years ago!!
oh wow! That is a long time to go without knitting. I knit every winter. Usually in summer I do crocheting, less drape on the lap, so less hot.
probably even more like 15 or so!!
maybe start up again with a nice small garment for a baby :) Do you have babies in your family?
FW!!! wow, really did not intend to finish this puzzle tonight!!!

how're you holding uP?
still powerless?
thx for the at bojazz, wish i had that more often LOL
I've been thinking of you and wondering the best way to contact you.
Just got power back yesterday
Well that's good.
How are you? How is Napa?
I feel your pain, Shirloc
Hoping i don't have to evacuate today. So far my neighborhood hasn't been hit
So terrible!
Poor Santa Rosa.
Well that 's some good news. Still a dangerous place to be.
Silverado is toast. Several wineries gone too
Gosh...
Santa rosa and glen ellen had it worse
Saw the wineries burnt up. So sad. So many houses just obliterated too.
Just awful
I wish i liked smores it would be easy to make them
Everybody likes s'mores.
But that situation could put you off, that's for sure.
No smores! If the fire gets that close to you, grab the dog and haul ass.
He will, I'm sure.
Yes i have the important stuff ready to go
I can't even imagine...

hello, babblers!
hey there eva
hey there, hi there, ho there!
sa6/24?
SA6/24 SA+ Po4
Hi there Eva, you're as welcome as can be. *Wonders when Wee Evan's first trip to Disney will be*
alas, the time has passed for him to be content for long periods on the stroller, so i think now we shall have to wait until hes more self-mobile...
Kids don't remember stuff from when they are very little. And a Disney trip should be remembered.
thx for the sa6
oh, agreed. he doesnt even have a concept of disney right now, anyway
4 was the perfect age for my granddaughter. she was into the Disney princesses and make believe and can remember the trip
I fell lucky to have grown up in the generation that was treated to The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.
I feel lucky too. Not sure felling lucky is...well lucky
that sa6/24 gave me the in6/24 and FW!!!!
Kieran gets some TV, but we havent let him become familiar with any characters yet... i know once it happens it will happen, so until then, im doing my best to keep things like that off his radar!
even better to get him connected to the characters in the books that he likes to see or hear - Seuss has some good characters, we also had lots of thomas the Train books for my grandson
man am I rusty as this!!
im eagerly waiting for him to get into books. right now, he thinks books are super-tasty.
i remember aa terrible evening when my daughter said 'I'll read to myself tonight'!!
na
i cant get K to sit still long enough...so i kind ayell/read at him from across the room while hes going other things. lol
Proper name: He remembered a lot of things from long before
Madeleines!
That's a hint
I was in a bookstore cafe this morning and they were playing "How do you solve a problem like Maria." When they got to the part when one sang "I'd like to say a word in her behalf" everyone in the store said in the right beat (te5) Maria-makes me-laugh ahaha. It was funny.
But back to the proper noun, the person you always mean to read but don't, who wrote a book about staying in bed and gossiping...
I have no idea, Kaplan.
He searched for lost time.
He was French.
Jacques Cousteau?
For a long time he used to go to bed early.
no...a writer
Victor Hugo?
He's in the grid
I know, but I am just guessing.
anyone else?
Marcel...
Proust
I know his name but nothing else.
ding ding ding. Unfortunately you didn't win the car, but you do get to take home a year's supply of Madeleines.
Darn.
Hey All! Jumping into the grid... I'll be up for air soon.
Go Aussie, go.
Hey Scrabs! *holds nose and jumps in feet first*
Yikes, the water is cold!
Yep, freezing, but if I keep moving I won't feel it lol
hello, Dr Scrabs!
Hey, EvaN!
hiya Aussie!
Hi K's Mama.
I was at the local schools doing physical exam for 4 hours this morning. I know I will have a HS nightmare tonight.
HS is a nightmare, in and of itself.
Yes, so I relived some of it today: hearing the bell between periods, seeing kids in the hallway, seeing their textbooks, talking to them about life and school.
::shivers::
Yes, I much prefer dealing with prepubertal kids--more fun.
speaking of which, mine decided to start taking a few steps! hes not really convinced yet, as crawling is much faster, but he is dabbling. ;)
He will keep improving and then run next. You will be very busy the next few years.
im working to enjoy each phase as it comes. but id be lying if i said im not eager for him to have some communication skills beyond crying...
I have always been fascinated by language development. At about 18-24 mo he will have a language explosion. That is fun to witness.
yeah...im not worried by his lack of playing with words, since he makes PLENTY of various sounds...so i knows its all in there. but it would make life a wee bit easier if he could say "hungry" or "tired" heh
Teach him some basic signs. It is easy starting at age 6 mo or so. Eat, drink, tired, etc.
Name that playwright's daughter who married a funny silent man with a moustache

Buon giorno, Hego.
ding ding ding/You bring home the 2018 model of the Toyota Prius and you get to come back on the show tomorrow
Hiya Scrabs
Lol Hi Kap!
I loved your photos from Italy, Hego.
Bologna is great!
Glad you enjoyed them.
Salami is too.
hahahaha!
My cousins were in Italy for 11 days. They loved Siena most of all.
I don't care for that part of italy
you could say I'm full of Bologna
Why not? Great food and wine.
Hey, Ruru
And Ferraris
hello aussie
Hey, Hego
Hi Aussie

thnx - will look
So I need em7.
I found it. All by myself.
im trying to be more consistent with using signs. but daddy doesnt use them at all + im not sure how consistent they are with them at day care - i think it varies based on the teacher. so we do what we can - when he doesnt outright laugh at us. lol
think it is the singular (or latin plural) of large shopping center
casa
Free clue!
:D
Well thanks Scrabs :D
Stay consistent and he will learn them, Eva.
thnx - had missed that
Do you think they delay speech?
Some people do.
No, signing is very helpful until verbal language develops.
Interesting.
Clue for in6 please?
I don't have it yet Scrabs
IN + PO 4
TY, wv. The list of in6 words is long.
nour
Don't try it. Not a word.
close, though
or8 anyone?
still not
clued earlier as - First 3 letters of Babbler + olfactory opening
ty!!
I don't know which Babbler but I monkeyed the word. TY.
Scrabs we should have gotten that one.
I don't know the babbler either.
I have never seen that word.
It's odd
+
I don't either and the olfactory opening I know is not in the grid...
Adjective for nose.
refer to the opening Matty
Got it, thanks :)
how about - first 3 letters of chinese paper craft +
it is very helpful that our good friend (who we lovingly refer to as "third parent") is fluent in sign language. i know some basics, but when my brain goes foggy, she can remind me. :)
I was looking for nostril
Oh my! And she's my friend. Duh!
Oh, that Babbler.
lol
I need a nap. Maybe I will find my last 33 tonight.
enjoy! :)
Phantom: emporium
Hey, Matty!
Any more gum chewers today?
Haa! Nope, not today. But gosh, that caused a mini controversy. Can't please everyone :)
It was VERY gross
gum chewing?
I seriously would have knocked her on the head. That chewing action would've driven me bonkers
Yesterday on the train there was a woman chewing gum VERY loudly and obviously. I took a 5 second video of it and posted it.
hahaha!
I was gritting my teeth watching it.....
She was on the train right near me for about half an hour. I was going mad
I would have had to say something.
She had earphones in. That must have been so loud to her - ever tried chewing anything with earbuds?
It's shocking how rude and inconsiderate people are anymore.
Makes it sound louder
She probably didn't even realise she was doing it. I kept glaring at her and miming her action but she was oblivious. I clearly have earned my British citizenship!
Exactly, Mandy!
Your lucky you don't live here.
What's up in Jersey (apart from crazy man in the White House)?
It looked like cows chewing the cud
aside from that nothing seems so bad.
Oh, it so did. And she was so LOUD with it
Well, that's true hego!
But my pet peeve is people in restaurants literaaly screaming to their table mates.
literally
That's so American - you always know when Americans are in a restaurant here. I once heard a group of Americans discussing, in a restaurant over dinner, colostomy bags and bowel complaints
I had to train myself out of that when I first came over
It was a relief to spend a week in Europe and be able to converse comfortably.
It's amazing. I couldn't even hear what the folks at the table next to me were saying. So nice.
And young women are the worst.
Time for a break. Love to all.
Talk to you later!
I am not doing well on this grid. No 7s yet!
em7/36 = plural of a shopping center
ar7/32 = sexual attraction
te7/40 = japanese type of cuisine
ai7/32 = mail thru the either
ty Shirl. Very helpful.
Thank you!
np -- finished early so popping in/out to help with clues
Either you mail it through the ether, or you mail it on land. Either way, it can be ethereal.
This is the nastiest grid I've worked on in a long time
And yet there are people who say "hello" and ten minutes later post "fireworks" and say it was easy-peasy. : D
hello everyone -- got almost 1/2 way last night before crashing
hello
what are the stats for the left N please?

dang it all, i thought i could get emporium but didn't realize i was re-using the M to do it

thank you rbud, i just started and no, i didn't think it through to see if i could get the plural!
vowel, not S, at the end
yeah, i know
okay, then. :D
i'm nervous about tomorrow - wish me luck. i'm giving my 4th/5th graders a talk about problems around gender, love, and marriage in Disney movies.
good subject. and so many wrong examples to point out, haha! Good luck. :)
their spring musical is The Little Mermaid, so i've been working it in in various ways to enhance their learning, this is the biggest one.
I think Mulan might be one of the only good examples, but then I haven't seen too many recent ones. Kids are grown.
The mermaid was never one of my favorites by a long shot. She's just too gullible and ditsy for my liking.
even with mulan, just the drawings are unrealistic (i don't know the story). they draw women - and always have - with unnaturally small waists, wrists, and so forth, while giving them gigantic eyes.
oh, yes, that too. The Barbie syndrome. :P
and they draw men unreasonably large, at least since Gaston. and body image disorders are now being found in more boys in addition to so many girls. they boy ones just take different forms, taking protein concoctions and obsessive attempts to build muscles, etc.
ah, but at least Mulan kicks butt in a man's world, more or less. Disguised as a man to go off and fight. Smarter than most of the guys.
well mermaid has numerous issues, so, it's a good vehicle for this lesson
That's true, hadn't thought about the male physique aspect. You're right, the princes used to be more "normal" in build. Way too pretty, but not body builder types.
yeah. look up a pic of merida's parents in brave. it's one of the best for showing how ridiculously exaggerated they've gotten.
And don't get me started on how Batman used to look in the TV series, compared to the inflated rubber muscles he now has, hahaha!
this kind of education - real world stuff - is one of the main things i want to do as a teacher.
name that proper noun! swann's way author
Heya kiddos.
