8:31 am

Hello, mooling!

8:31 am

Oh! Very cool! I want one!

8:31 am

I did share with you how much my mom with Alzheimer's loves that book, right? It went with her to the Alzheimer's home she is in

8:31 am

She would look at it for hours

8:32 am

It's still only in early stages, so it'll be a while. But thanks for the vote of confidence!

8:33 am

No, I don't think i heard that about your mother. Thanks so much. Alzheimers can be so cruel, so I'm honored to have been able to be part of easing it even just a little.

8:33 am

hey vic, car...apologies, had to get on a conference call

8:34 am

I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner! It really is one of her favorites. We would sit and go through the letters or just look at the pictures. Somedays it is just one or two letters but she loves it

8:34 am

Hmmm...now I am thimking I should order a few copies for the residents....

8:34 am

Ha ha - you should definitely apologize for letting work intrude on Babble, mool. ;)

8:36 am

I never thought of that when I was making it - I was thinking of children, of course. But one of my goals was for it to be flexible enough to appeal to a wide age range, and I guess it makes sense that some of the same things that appeal to children of various ages would appeal to Alzheimers patients at various stages. Thanks so much for bringing that to my attention.

8:36 am

9:40 am

9:42 am

*Wonders how many people didn't get the toilet + gerund clue. Some of us Americans are not hip to British terms

1:56 pm

stunning omission from the dictionary - Moroccan stew, or the unique clay dish it's cooked in.

1:59 pm

not to mention the Italian sandwich offered in every lunch menu!

2:09 pm

The Enable Word List makers are more interested in lesser known mammals from alias countries and foreign currency

2:10 pm

It's just weird they have this extremely obscure archaic Italian term for a Turkish bath, but not the common hot sandwich at my local deli.

2:11 pm

But never mind... 32 obscure babblets to go!

2:16 pm

I feel like I've never played this game before. It really isn't as difficult as I have made it. 1 left hi 6/27. Help please?

2:20 pm

congrats gramma!

2:20 pm

hello 125 to go

2:25 pm

what are the stats for the single o please?

2:26 pm

Apparently "babblet" is an obscure term for obscure words. I have never gotten why that term is so popular here. Ditto "monkeys".

2:28 pm

AN 7 PLS? just cannot see it

ty anyway , found it and time to be on my way.

3:23 pm

an+ consonant + that ever present gerund + vowel

3:27 pm

Molly, babblet is popular here because it was invented here. It basically means a word only found in Babble. Monkeys, I think, refers to the story of if there were enough monkeys pounding on keyboards they would eventually produce a book. I could be wrong about that though.

3:32 pm

at

3:38 pm

I get the "babblet" and "monkey" thing. Terms that were invented years ago.

3:57 pm

isn't that animal abuse?

3:59 pm

I think the "monkey" thing was invented because people didn't want to say they were just randomly entering chains of letters in hope that it would provide a word.

Is there something wrong with that?

4:06 pm

ba 6/30, pls

same as the 7 after it. remove one of the double consonants

4:08 pm

4:42 pm

Good evening all. Half an hour ago, the polls closed on a a monumental referendum in this country:- Whether to repeal the ban on abortions or not. As the mother of 2 girls, I voted to repeal the ban, but it has been a very unpleasant debate. Early indications are showing that vote may be going in favour of repealing the ban. First country in Europe to approve of same-sex marriages - Our Prime Minister is mixed-race & homosexual, now looking like we will allow abortion! Ireland is joining the 21st centuary!

4:44 pm

7:44 pm

Hi scrabs :)

7:45 pm

Yay Liz! Hi Kate.

7:51 pm

ginally some nice weather in

7:51 pm

Good evening!

7:51 pm

western NY and S. Ontario :D

7:51 pm

Hi nef :)

7:52 pm

Hi Kate!

7:52 pm

Haven't seen you in a while... happy Memorial Day weekend!

7:53 pm

It's very hot & humid here; just started the past 2 days

7:53 pm

Yes, it feels like summer finally.

7:54 pm

we have warmth, but no humidity (thank goodness!) rain due in the next couple of days... ugh!

7:54 pm

I was out of town at a state convention; plus the planning for a huge family reunion next month (I'm the one doing the contacting & mailings

7:55 pm

Hi folks

7:56 pm

That will all be worthit in the end Nef, even though it's a lot of work. How was the convention? Willl the reunion be in your town?

7:56 pm

It literally dumped buckets of rain last night without much warning; I still don't know how much rain we got, however

7:56 pm

Hi origami and nef

7:57 pm

Hi origami :) We got 3-4 days of buckets (mostly at night... yard is *almost* dry enough to go out on the lawn now. Haven't even planted the veggies yet.

7:57 pm

Recovered fro m all the hiking scrabs?

7:57 pm

Yes, finally. I did a 40 minute hike today and felt fine. No more sore muscles.

7:59 pm

Hi Scrabs (Sorry, I'm distracted by a TV show right now)

8:01 pm

Time to shower and go to bed. I am selling my art at the farmers market every Saturday now from 8:30-1. See you tomorrow.

8:02 pm

Do you have new pictures on your FB page scrabs?

8:02 pm

Yes, I do. I put them up each day after we finished hiking.

8:02 pm

I stood on my injured foot for 28 seconds today. (Not wanting to be out-done by Scrabbler....)

8:03 pm

What happened to your foot?

8:03 pm

I mean of your art Scrabs

8:03 pm

I broke my ankle skiing on St. Patrick's Day.

8:04 pm

I will put 2 new projects on FB now, origami.

8:04 pm

And how did it go, Harp?

8:04 pm

Oh, Jane, I broke my ankle 21 months ago when hiking on a mountain. OUCH!

8:05 pm

Well, 28 seconds was a long time. Every time I get cocky about my progress, my physical therapist gives me something harder to do.

8:06 pm

LOL! That's their job, Jane! :-)

8:06 pm

Did you need surgery?

8:06 pm

How is your ankle doing, Scrabbs? I see you are hiking!

8:06 pm

Yes, the broken bone--lower fibula--needed a plate and some screws.

8:07 pm

What about you scrabbs?

8:07 pm

I still have some achiness occasionally. I suspect my ankle will never be 100%. All the soft tissue was trained and sprain too, as an ankle injury is rarely just a fracture.

8:08 pm

I had a Weber A fracture which healed in 8 weeks so I did not need surgery.

8:08 pm

*strained and sprained

8:09 pm

Jane, it will be months before you feel steady and can trust your ankle. I still fear re-injury.

8:10 pm

The most unnerving part is over for me now. I am out of the cast and I can bear weight.

8:12 pm

Good. Just make slow and steady progress. I wore a brace for a year, with skiing and hiking, then decided to go without it. I just hiked 50+ miles on the AT without problems.

8:12 pm

Will the hardware be removed someday or stay in?

8:12 pm

Just be sure to do the exercises that the PT tells you!

8:15 pm

I'm pretty good about that. I just incorporate them into my workout routine. I got really out of shape after an injury a few years ago and vowed never to let that happen.

8:16 pm

The hardware will probably stay in unless there are problems. Other than new ski boots, it shouldn't make much difference.

8:17 pm

get stronger and work on balance. Aw, geez, I feel terrible for you. The pain was SO bad that I almost fainted and puked.

8:18 pm

googling Weber A fracture.

8:19 pm

I had to ski out, spend the night in a cabin, and then ski another half mile to get to the ER.

8:19 pm

Fibular fracture, but stable and typically not requiring surgery.

8:20 pm

You were cross-country skiing?

8:20 pm

The thing about ankle fractures is that you need to maintain as much range of motion (ROM) as possible so you don't develop foot drop (which - unfortunately happens and can trip you up the rest of your life.)

8:21 pm

I have always thought that ankles are poorly evolved for bipeds--such unstable joints that easily get twisted.

8:22 pm

Yes, they are. My hubby sprained his ankle nearly 30 years ago; and he did develop a mild foot drop. Which now causes him to trip on sidewalk cracks when he's tired. :-/

8:23 pm

Not good.

8:24 pm

Just looked it up. That looks like the type of fracture I had, Weber A, except it was splintered and needed surgery.

8:24 pm

Ow, ow, ow.

8:24 pm

true, Scrabs. And I've seen several others who have had the same problem years later.

8:25 pm

I experienced the foot drop thing today as I was walking up a slight incline. I was looking at the nice window display instead of my feet.

8:26 pm

:-(

8:26 pm

Jane, you were cross-country skiing?

8:27 pm

My biggest challenge right now is something I can't do much about--edema. It is gradually improving, but I have to do my exercises early in the morning in order to get the benefit. By evening I can't get any sort of calf stretch at all because that requires bending the ankle.

8:28 pm

Yes, cross-country skiing. Not steep or anything. Just a moment of inattention and a gravity problem.

8:28 pm

Did you have much edema Scrabbs?

8:29 pm

I got a concussion when cross-country skiing 4 years ago, took a header when going down a hill.

8:29 pm

Oh, yes, jane, for a few months. And the bruising lasted so long too.

8:31 pm

It sucks to be on the disabled list.

8:31 pm

Harp, you need to do some very active knee and hip movements first thing in the morning; then do your exercises, then do a very Gentle type of massage called effleurage

8:32 pm

I will keep checking on you, Jane. Do your exercises every day and slowly you will notice improvement.

8:32 pm

It does suck to be disabled for even a short while

8:32 pm

And now I must get to bed.

8:33 pm

Good night, Scrabs. Sleep well.

8:37 pm

Gross ..

8:39 pm

oh, tor, don't be so sensitive

8:43 pm

gees, tor came to the party .....

8:44 pm

effleurage is really cool!

8:45 pm

Here's what I noticed about disability--both with the knee scooter/cast, and now with the cane/crutch. Either you are completely invisible to people, or you get total overkill, with people wanting to wait on you hand and foot.....

8:45 pm

One gross of words ..

8:46 pm

me too tor

8:46 pm

it will help, harp; but in order for it to be really effective, you have to wake up the blood flow between it an the heart

8:47 pm

Oh Geez! I thought you were grossed out by the chat, tor! :-)

8:48 pm

Ha Tor

8:50 pm

I've just ordered a bolster so I can elevate and we can return our cushions to their rightful place in the living room.

8:55 pm

Good idea, harp. Get things back to normal

9:01 pm

I got a digital antennae so I can watch Jeopardy and the signal is going all wonky :-(

9:02 pm

i love jeopardy!

9:04 pm

The current champ has won a lot of moola

9:06 pm

I missed it today, did he win again?

9:11 pm

Still going here - but antennae is whacking out.

9:23 pm

<--Laughing at Tor : D
