I just spent the better part of 3 months in the hospital, first an emergency surgery and then corrective surgery - I can definitely relate to being a terrible patient. Hadn't really ever had anything done outside of having our kids, lol

thanks! had a combo of an internal hernia or two, adhesions, and some "abnormal anatomy alignment" - much to my surprise - according to the first surgeon.
just couldn't keep food down one day, and things just hurt, so in I went. Could not believe how long it took to get back out. Once they have you it's a long haul, haha

Need to walk more, but the weather's not the best for it. Retaining a bit of water in my legs, need to fix that.
I did quit smoking, though, about four months now, yay, me!
It's hard to get out and walk when the weather is bad! I'm sitting too much myself. YAY YOU for quitting! Hardest thing ever.

I'm doing fair...still sore, but we've had a lot of weather changes. Michael is tired out - he took his grandson over to his dad's this weekend, and obviously overdid himself.

Gonna have to wait till after the holidays - we're going over the hill to a friend's for Christmas, and there's snow over there!
Rbud, he has had really good success with his surgery results, but does get tired more easily - part of that is because he's also getting older! Overall, he's doing great, and has twice the energy I've had - I had a nasty fall, and then a car accident, so my body took a bit of a beating.

At least the accident wasn't my fault, so the other insurance is picking up a rental. My car won't be ready until sometime in January - over $12,000 damage, ugh

We couldn't visit our friend for Christmas without the rental! Luckily we were able to get a car very similar to the damaged one, with AWD and able to handle snow.

Rural areas are underserved, so we have to drive 60-90 minutes to get decent care. A man fell off of a ladder today, and no med flights would come in due to bad weather, so they had to take him by ambulance - at least 90 minutes if drivers got out of their way. I hope he's ok!

Once, long ago, we had to get my cousin 90 minutes to a trauma center in Columbus OH from where he lived in rural nowhere East of there.
It's scary! Sometimes it's faster to drive your loved one - hubby's aunt had a heart episode one year, and they drove her to the neared hospital in 20 minutes - no ambulance would have even found them in that time!
Hubby was also trained as an EMT - that helps a bit.
hm yeah, but not when he downplays your pretty severe damage from the fall!
hear ya, Sprite. The problem was that it wasn't an emergency after 24 hours...and there was no where but an emergency room to go to. No appts, no decent doctors...it sucks here for medical care. But I didn't get pushy either, figured since my eye was ok, I'd be ok...
hmmmphhhhh. Well, next time, you go to a doctor stat, ya hear? What am I saying... you are not allowed a next time!
No more falls for me! If circumstances hadn't been so odd with timing, I would have been to the ER the night I fell.

I know. But our election was a biggie, and it was more important than me. He was committed to work it, and only got about 4 hours sleep as it was.

The election was more important to me than my injury being looked at. Any other night I would have be straight to local ER - who probably would have had to transfer me anyway. Michael had to be transferred once - $6,000 ride. Ouch!

i had reduced the CR oxycodone to eke it out until my new script arrived from the medical authority. when i spoke to GP today, she told me that the script had been rejected as they said i needed a review. fortunately i had been to see dr john. gp has hisletter recommending the increased dose which she was able to send off.

Trif...some friends of mine and I recently formed an education foundation for our school district. Last Friday we went out and delivered our first grants to area teachers. Surprised them with big fake checks and lots of hoopla. GREAT day!!!

It was FABULOUS. The largest were around $5000, and the smallest was around $1000. So much fun! Now we get to raise more money to do it again in May.

One of the schools won half the grants. Turns out their librarian held grant writing workshops. It's a blind scoring system, so we had no clue till the winners were selected.

It would depend on what the grant was for. They all applied for different things that they thought would enhance the kids' education.

Right now, I just know names and amounts. I'll find out at our January meeting what the grants were for. Also, we're going to follow a couple of the winners to check their progress. Will use the info and video footage for future fundraising efforts.

You're talking about the daily cost of basic education? I'll find out and report back. Pretty sure it's a lot less than that. For some reason the number $8000 -ish comes to mind.
To be clear, the education foundation raises money privately, and teachers apply for grants. The grants are reviewed and scored on a matrix, and the highest scores are chosen to be funded. This is over and above state and federal funds.
I'm talking about public elementary and high school. It's ridiculously high.

In Texas, the funding system is antiquated and ridiculous.

Ours is too, but the money goes back to the state, and trickles down. The more they receive in taxes, the less they actual get. It's a weird mix. Fuel is calculated on a price per gallon from the 80's. Weird stuff like that. You have to have good people handling the money in the district, that's for sure!

Grama, we have a camp on Lake Iroquois==oh, I see you know. Been cominfg since 1951. My kid fly our t and rent cars and don't add me as a driver so I am sort of "place bound"--but we have the nicest spot on the lake--in our view--and the kids don't want to sell. A real dock finally yhis summer--and an efficient eco toilet, they say--our system is too old and close to the lake to be acdceptable and no possibility of a well. I have written an excellent bk abt vt--it won the Dorothy Canfield Fisher after it came out--I'd enjoy meeting you.
