My 9 year old grandson wanted to watch the ball fall (in NYC), so woke him up at 11:15 (here in MN) and then we had the TV on; but we had the wrong channel onat our midnight so he didn't get to see the ball fall! (I'd told his dad to wake him just before 11 & he'd see it; instead we saw the New Orleans celebration.

aw, poor kid! But being up and about in the middle of the night must have been fun in itself
he was so tired; I'd taken him & 2 of his friends out sledding toda; that really tired him out (It was cold, windy, & snowing fairly hard. (We only had to cross a street, but it's a very busy street & the 3 kids aren't allowed to cross that road without an adult)
cold and snow and exercise will do that. Makes them all rosy and drowsy. Good for them!
it was working on a close to blizzard situation; so yeah, he was pretty worn out
sounds great. An adventure with you in the snow, then sleep, and another midnight adventure, no doubt with drinks and goodies.
he didn't eat or drink anything at midnight; he didn't want to rebrush his teeth! :-)

(He'd had lots of snacks & "fancy" drinks earlier, so at least that was good.

(only sometimes, sprite. Other times he's a handful. His mother is bipolar, our son divorced her about 4 years ago; she calls him nearly every night; but I worry that he needs counselling too for some of the mental trauma from over the years.)

Thanks. Sometimes he appreciates me, but not always. I've had to tell him that the reason he has to follow the house rules is because I love him. Occasionally he nods he knows that.
giving him clear boundaries and rules is very loving indeed. Even if he protests, you are making him feel safe.
What I worry most about is that he won't tell us what's going on in his head. He was being bullied in school & he never purposely told us; but it slipped out one evening as I took him to Taekwondo class
glad you were really listening.
I started volunteering at school a few weeks ago just to see what is going on there. (I help by tutoring some of the younger students in math & reading)
And I'm enjoying it! :-)

I had to help customers who forgot wine and also drive my dog to the vet and pick him up at the end of the day
it was work and lots of driving

I drove from Napa to Santa Rosa.. santa rosa to Berkeley, Berkeley to Sacramento, and Sacramento back to Napa and then back to Santa Rosa and then back home

yeah, we went up to friends' house in mill valley at 6pm, usually rush hour... nada

I went sledding with my grandson & his 2 friends yesterday; there's a great sliding hill less than a block from our home but it's across a busy street so the kids are supposed to have someone older with them.

I did take a sled down the hill twice; but the walk back up wasn't fun (it was freezing cold with a strong wind and snowing & sleeting hard; the oil was slick with ice.)
