we have had the loveliest day. today my youngest and his wife picked us up and took us to a wonderful pub for christmas/new year gathering of my kids, their sposes and kids. hence the new icon.

am glad it was all a success
again lots of laughter, and "in family" jokes. Lisa's two other kids were there and were staggered when they received their gifts from us.they both thanked me beautifully, with no prompting at all.

:P Just asking because nobody listened to my story yesterday! Which was a little frustrating. Okay, here goes.
even though I was very happy about starting the new phase in our life earlier than planned, I was a little stressed about how to make it all work in just 4 weeks
so, rob and I talked about it. Big issues were how to store stuff and where to live between moving out here and receiving the money later... there is a weekend in between, so that makes it later
then Rob got the brilliant idea to put a small heater in the sea container, which will keep the temps above freezing and the moisture out, so everything we want to store can go into the sea container!
and we sat down and looked at trailers, made a list, and drove to the other side of the netherlands to look at a few

I called ahead, the guy on the phone seemed a little short and brusque, but hey, who cares, so we went
he turned out to be a very nice guy, who showed us about 8 trailers that had most of the features we were looking for. While checking them out, Rob and I did not seem to agree on which ones we liked best. But then we went back to the ones we liked, gave grades and lo and behold, we both had the same favorite
wow! sooooo....
then talked it over with the guy, and he was willing to accept a downpayment now... AND let us take the trailer home a week earlier than we can pay the rest!
how lovely of him..
so we do not have to live in the tipi for a week, no need for a B&B or hostel, we can move from the house straight into the trailer!

told you before, no need to worry, we will be fine. I have this underbelly feeling of trust, of faith even. Things will work out. It is amazing how blessed we are.

the guy said to rob that he was looking forward to seeing us after my call, lol. He loved my voice and was interested to see what woman was the owner of that voice. Warm and great, he said, and that I could earn my living with a voice like that. We told him about my volunteer work and he was like: "yep, perfect, that is what I mean". We both think that first impression is what made him offer the week's grace.
rose, the Big Guy is on our side in this. Do not worry. We are going about it step by step and in each step, we find miracles on our way. It is incredible.
i so agree with him. i remember your first phone call here. i nearly fell over don in my haste to get to the phone when i heard you speaking..

so there... two days of major news! Now we can 'simply' work through the house and empty it. And... which is slightly daunting... lots and lots of phonecalls to make to arrange official stuff. I will be on the phone a lot in the week to come. But I have faith the Big Guy will be with me in this as well.

pretty good now. A lot of worries have disappeared now, with the heater and the trailer. Work is still a big issue with him, things are not good there. But I keep telling him: be true to yourself, and remember that in a few weeks we are no longer hostages to your paycheck, there will be room for working less hours or in a lower paygrade or whatever.

I am holding up father has been very ill with partial heart failure and other complications but is now home from hospital. Mother is doing her bess seeming she is not well either.

and it has one of those tent things you can attach to the front... not sure what they are called in english. Makes for a lot bigger area for living. And one of those mover things, so that you do not have to maneuver the trailer in place by car.

The container itself is very small. But the plants grow in water, not soil. The light extends upward as the plants grow.

lil*monkey, Hubby has a foot brace because his mild foot drop has caused repeated tripping this year; & last night he told me he's worried because his memory is getting worse. Luckily, he hasn't had an infection (which always ends up with him being hospitalized) for a year now (I need to update that part).
I work in a Rehab, I'm a PT assistant. I'm hoping the AFO is helping him walk more safely! Sending prayers and good vibes.
My brother has now lost over 100 lbs & looks like a skeleton. His breathing is a problem, he's on BIPAP full time now & has had a couple of close calls. I've been out to see him 4 times this year; he's still very optimistic but he's so much worse every time I see him. :-(
Aww so sorry. Its a terrible disease, sending prayers for him also.
It does help him walk better; but he doesn't remember to put it on; so I am continually reminding him of that. As for my brother; I told him that (in a way) he's lucky I don't live closer because I'd be hounding him continuously to do ROM exercises (he has pretty awful contractors now).

She has COPD and is on O2 PRN during day and at anytime she is sleeping, needs some joints replaced and has recurring bouts of CDiff.
I know you didn't ask my opinion, Nef, but I would go towards a senior condo so the neighbors would be of like mnd.

Yes my mom likes it, she has made several friends here. There are lots of activities. Movies, going to museums or shopping, speakers, art exhibits, etc.
Buzz, I was first looking at assisted senior housing; but once I saw the price; and then saw that the quote we got was for 1 person only and everything to "assist" a person cost extra -- well, we changed our minds!

It's working well for my mom.
My mom wanted to go into assisted living at first. I told her I wouldn't pay for someone to take care of her whie she slept all day. Brutal, I know, but it shook her up and out.
You are so right, Bzzn. My hubby is so dependant on me right now for everything & I think if he could socialize more it would help him a lot.
She was always brutally honest when I was growing up. Nut doesn't fall far from the tree..

When she is feeling well, I can get her out to volunteer work with me. But it has been a while...
I kind of tricked 1 of my hubby's aunts into going to a local senior center with me when our kids were small (35-40 years ago!) They had mittens they were selling there; I made her come with me to find the right pairs for my kids; and the women there welcomed her in.
The holidays were really hard. Now that the first ones are over, I hope it will be easier next year.
if she was staying in bed at her old home; she didn't have any friends close enough to encourage her to get up & out?
She had a couple of friends, but they were all dealing with their own stuff. She has never been a social person unless it related to work or family.
And she doesn't want to "ask" for anything...including a lunch date...
Do you have much family nearby for her to see often?
Not here in NC. We did make a trip back in Oct. That was really hard for her. We have family lined up to visit this summer. That will be good. Most of her grands facetime her often. That helps. She didn;t have that capability until she moved in with us.

That's great. I see my grandson FaceTime with his mother every so often (my son is divorced; his ex is mentally ill). FaceTime really helps him (& I hope it helps her too; -although sometimes I'm confused because they may have long "phone calls" but don't talk!)
