12:47 am

ooops

12:51 am

shock'll do that to ya

12:52 am

well, let me just say that

12:53 am

reports of my death are greatly exaggerated

12:56 am

Hah! Given that you were actually in chat when your death was reported, I had guessed that to be the case

1:00 am

hahaha! I thought the same thing (the greatly exaggerated part) at the time. :D

And I would like to add: 1) I don't think we have any collective uncertainty about whose sock puppet account that is, and 2) WHAT A BITCH

1:06 am

What am I missing???

KIMMYDEE, in chat a day or two ago

1:07 am

but it's been around for a decade and a ha4, I think? long time.

1:07 am

The first name to mind. She's b

Yes, so really all that means is that the sock puppet was created that long ago, but rarely played.

1:10 am

idk - there was a really rookie mistake there

1:10 am

Oops. Last month(?) was the first I'd heard of her, but she was acting like a bratty teen ...why were people gloating when they found a word, or made fireworks, etc

1:10 am

expressed frustration from not being able to get an angry response from two other people

1:11 am

Good grief, did she report hurshy's demise? What a witch.

1:12 am

in context, it was pretty clear that she was kidding

Yeah, but put in all the other context about how unpleasant she is on a regular basis, and we're back to WHAT A BITCH

1:13 am

We've had some gems, here, over the years.

1:14 am

damn, just read the chat...I missed all the excitement...must have been when I was a my dtrs for a few days..Hurshy, so glad you 'rose from the dead'

I hit fireworks. This was a remarkably easy puzzle; I almost always need the list, but not today, and I finished in record time, once I figured out to just keep trying even the stupidest of words.

So it's early yet, but would anyone like clues before I go off to sleep?

1:20 am

I think, whoever administers this game, decided, because of the time change, to give us a pass on all the stupid words (and non-words), ending in IER.

1:21 am

doctor god does not mess with the grids in any way

1:21 am

strictly lets the computer generate them

1:21 am

and they're generated ridiculously far in advance

1:21 am

like five years or something insane like that

Wow, really?

And I'm off to bed. G'nite all.

1:29 am

Perhaps the poor computer is befuddled, it too lost an hour's sleep ...

1:33 am

Hurshy, I was being facetious (both times).

1:50 am

i know, i just can't resist offering factoids

2:02 am

I’m glad you’re not dead, hurshy.

2:03 am

thanks sue. right back atcha.

2:03 am

Excellent!

2:06 am

Oh my, I forgot to say "I'm glad you're not dead, hurshy".

2:07 am

lol, that's totally fine

2:08 am

i think the sentiment mainly goes without saying among most ordinary humans

2:09 am

Ah, yes, but there are some people you feel you should say iy to.

2:09 am

‘It’, not ‘iy’.

2:11 am

cooee and g'day from me. hurshy...really?? did it really do that? say you were dead? omg...

2:12 am

yeah, right after you and sprite were about done chatting i think

2:12 am

and those two others? would they be a pair i am a part of?

2:13 am

2:13 am

hi and {{{{{lizgirl}}}}}}}

2:20 am

could be, dofith. JC and cronies come to mind.

2:20 am

dofith... prolly has about 4 or 5 personas

2:21 am

Sad really!

2:21 am

oh, and thanx so much for your email lizgirl. wonderful read. are you thinking of publishing? *grin*

2:21 am

🤣

2:21 am

it is pathetic. Best ignored, imo.

2:21 am

Ok. Thanks, Rose. Are any of them regular? as in comes here often? generally just plays the game but occasionally goes a bit berserk?

2:22 am

I agree, sprite.

2:22 am

just look for the fangs dofith.

2:23 am

the goal is to get a rise out of everybody, disrupt the fun and good relations in the community and basically make a big to-do. So all personae at some point will become rude and berserk.

2:23 am

hiya Sue :)

2:23 am

hursh, honey, you okay?

2:24 am

Hiya, spriye.

2:24 am

Ooh! I'm intrigued! I go around in a fog - always have- always the last one for whom the penny drops. I will have to be more vigilant.

2:24 am

oh dear... hurshy has disappeared. everyone, check under the table...

2:24 am

*grins* you do just fine, dofith, no worries.

2:25 am

But it's so frustrating! I miss out on the fun because I'm so ignorant.

2:26 am

i'm fine i'm fine

2:26 am

just otherwise occupied

2:26 am

tbh, it is not fun. Just lightly irritating.

2:26 am

ah great, hursh, am glad ;) Wouldn't want to give food to more rumours.

2:26 am

oh, i have to tell you lot. going into the hydro pool i am pretty much unable to walk. each step sheer agony. after doing my program i think if given the opportunity i could waltz.

2:27 am

oh wow rose. That is something! You totally rock.

2:27 am

Ignoring is definitely the best option. Old saying about not feeding trolls! Sadly they sometimes really upset people.

2:27 am

oh and sprite... Rob has responded to Don's email. communication open wide.

2:27 am

Good to hear that Rose.

2:28 am

Time for me to go. Hugs all.

2:28 am

I have good news too. On the world scale of things totally unimportant, but from my narrow viewpoint it is a small miracle: I just took a shower! First time in a month, ever since I fell. I feel real clean at last. Hair washed! Ohhhhh luxury.

2:28 am

oh wow rose, am so glad!

2:28 am

{{{{lizgirl}}} and also to her hubby. xoxox

2:29 am

bye Liz, *hugs* to the both of you

2:29 am

hi all, taking the plunge

8:45 pm

I just got to half way; couldn't spell worth a darn last night or this AM & was trying to play on my son's iPad. Does anyone use an iPad to play Babble? If so, any ideas or tips on how to do it (I'm not sure if my poor spelling was due to the iPad or me!)

8:49 pm

I use an ipad, Nef. Is your son’s old? When my original got old, it would only register some of the letters i was typing. I brought it in to the store, and they said the battery was only able to charge up to 80%. So, for $100.00 i was able to replace it, and voila, I can spell again

8:51 pm

Thanks for answering, beth. It's actually an iPad he uses for his work (he's a QA specialist for a small programming company & he uses various devices to check how their programs work. I don't think it's more than 2 years old, though.

How are you doing these days, Gwen?

i has good days and bad days, mostly good, though. how's you?

Got the Ns, woot, ty, nbt

8:59 pm

Hanging in there (as usual). :-)

9:00 pm

That N was hard for me to find too.

adding word to my cheat sheet. I only know it from sining Latin lyrics.

singing, that is

half done finally

9:02 pm

That's interesting; what kind of singing do you do that would run into that word?

grizle is not a word

I have sung at girl scount camp, college choir, Universalist church, and a few memorial services and stuff. once went to English and sane "War Requiem" a massive anti-war piece of Benjamin Britton

9:06 pm

We could start a write in campaign....

England, that is

9:08 pm

Gwen, thatsounds like it would be fun.

hell, yeah, it was

nothing like prawn cocktail flavored crisps, squid stew, and sugar-coated popcorn to make you fall in love with England LOLOL

9:13 pm

That sounds like it would even be better! :-D

i'm not very food curiouis so one day I ate Kentucky Fried. In London. What a hoot.

9:17 pm

Oh, my! Did it taste like American KFC? Or was it different?

Exactly like american.

9:20 pm

it tastes the same world wide.

9:20 pm

so does mcdonalds, wendys, burger king.

9:20 pm

Now that's funny. I've never been to England (or any other country, TBH); but a friend who has traveled a lot has told me that many ofthe "American" fast food chain restaurants have different foods in other countries - or their recipes are different & the food doesn't tast the same.

well, my taste buds are not very good, so it might taste different to your friend

9:22 pm

She says she has a" very narrow palate" (I think that means she's a very p0icky eater)

being a huge fan of Doctor Who made me interested in learning what exactly was a scone (we would call it a biscuit) and what is ginger beer (pretty much same as ginger ale) and other stuff

9:23 pm

picky

i'm picky too, but i tried the squid stew because i do like most seafood, and it was great

9:23 pm

I've always been curious about "clotted cream" What the heck is that?

okay, you got me, but my guess is cottage cheese

i ended up as the unofficial translator for my group (all americans) who did not know how to get a wash cloth, for example, or what a shilling was

9:25 pm

Sometimes I catch that British baking show & they seem to rave about their clooted cream a lot.

9:25 pm

What do they call wash cloths?

wash cloth = face flannel

or just a flannel

now we have the interwebs and we can google all this stuff. i am googling clotted cream.

9:27 pm

Wow! I would never think that was what they'd be talking about!

thick cream made by heating fresh milk; the cream rises to the top and clots

so, not exactly cottage cheese

the hotel we were at did not have wash cloths, and one of my group complained that they kept asking at the desk for wash cloth and never got one -- they possibly thought the silly american wanted to clean their opwn room

9:30 pm

huh. I remember having fresh cow's milk and seeing cream rise to the top; but Inever had it clot

9:31 pm

(but then again, we didn't heat the fresh milk either)

you heat it, then cool it, then it clots. (wikipedia explains it better)

9:34 pm

Now I'm embarrassed that I've never looked it up before (then again; when watching cooking shows, I'm more interested in the how they do stuff instead of what they're using)

it's funny what some people think "everyone" knows so they never stop to explain it. example: i once read an entire book about non-US musical styles; the author assumed "everyone" knew was soca was so did not bother to explain it, but compared a lot of other styles to it. Kind of infurating.

*what* soca was.

(I later found another book that explained it was "soul" plus "calypso" -- Oh!)

there's a Harry Potter character in the grid

9:39 pm

I should know better than to ask this silly question - especially asking it of you; "Book Doctor"; but there are books about that? There's a whole world out there that I've never known about before!

never seen a book about book doctors -- it mean (sort of) emergency editor. Most people assume it means i repair books, but that is the jb of a bookbinder

or were you referring to music?

9:42 pm

I was referring to the music books & so many other topics I've read of yours over the years. :-)

oh, of course. yes, there are tons of books about music. I collect songbooks, and I have a small assortment of books about music. most booksellers lump these together but in my bookstore they are separate categories

9:45 pm

I remember you had moved your books a while ago. Are you in a better store/ building now?

well, not really, still stell out of my home, but, I areorganizing everything differently in my new plce, and hopefully will be able to have actual live customers over on occasion

(egad, can't type)

still unpacking and reorganizing

found the 9, woot

9:52 pm

I would imagine that could take a long time to do. I told my hubby we have to move to a senior home this year; we have about 12 feet of bookshelves (by 7 feet high) that we will have to sort through and decide which to keep & which to give away or sell. I'm not relishing that work myself!)

9:54 pm

Dang! I'm going to have to list with 40 left. I can't find any more words in this grid!

sort 'em then call the nearest used bookstore and they (hopefully) will buy the rest. Good luck!

9:58 pm

We have a Half Price Books near us. I did take in a bunch of books not too long ago & they didn't want any books on art or natural history. I don't know if they were over-stocked on them then or if they just weren't interested in them ever.

do i remember you are in minnesota?

10:00 pm

But there's an independant quirky "used & rare" bookstore farther away & I thought I'd try them next time.

10:00 pm

Yes, We're in the Twin Cities.

i have respect for Half Price Books but they are not experts in rare and unusual books, though they sometimes have a small section of them in their store. They will be picky about what they buy if you bring them stuff they know they can't sell

call the store while you ar ein the room with the books, and tell them about your books. if you happen to mention anything they want, they will (hopefully) come to you

10:02 pm

okay. (My kids gave me a $75 gift card for Half Price books last year for my birthday; I still have $3 left on it> So I do go there!

10:05 pm

That would be lovely if they came to get the books! :-) My hubby isn't good with lifting and carrying anymore; so I do all the lugging around.

if they handle unusual books, there's a good change they will come to you. tell them you have all the books you said, and you can't bring them in.

12 linear feet, 7 feet high, estimate maybe 800 books.

10:08 pm

okay. (That'a what I like about Babblers; someone always knows answers to problems you hadn't thought of before you ask!)

10:09 pm

Oh, at least that many. And it doesn't cover the books in other areas of the house: by the bedside & in 2 other bookshelves

also make sure to tell them you have not had any dealers out to buy yet. they will want to be first.

but of course, pull out anything you don't want to sell before you call them over! (and put those books in another room, or at least on their own shelf, so they are clearly off limits)

10:10 pm

We also have a bookcase in a bedroom about 2-3' wide from floor to ceiling. The bopttom is kids' books & the upper shelves are cookbooks

10:11 pm

Those are good ideas; thanks!

cookbooks are a big collecting area, so do mention that you have some of those.

no prob 8 - )

10:12 pm

LOL! We have 4 1/2 shelves of cookbooks; but you know how it is: we always use the same old 4 or 5! :-)

see, you are also cookbook collectors! they are lots of you LOL

there are lots of you, i mean!

10:16 pm

My husband used to love to do gourmet cooking; he liked to impress others with his cooking -heck! That's why I married him! ;-) And he also found it very relaxing to do too. Me? I joke that if it has more than 5 ingredients, it's too complicated; but at the same time, I'm always adding different spices, herbs, & other stuff so I never cook the same thing twice.

as for me, i hate cooking! LOL

10:19 pm

I never cared for it; but I do like to eat real food ; not fast food or box mixes

i eat fast food, but I avoid certain brands. never eat Mcdonald's for example.

and i don't eat it every day, either, i know better

10:22 pm

Now, once a year, (like this time of year) I DO eat McDonalds: a fish sandwich and a shamrock shake. It's a tradition from my single days. My hubby Hates McD's; but that used to be my Friday lenten meal before I'd go to work back then.

shamrock shake -- is it actually green?

10:24 pm

yes, it's really a vanilla shake with mint in it (& I don't usually like mint; but I do like those)

yeah, i'll be passing on that LOL

10:26 pm

:-D I think the vanilla flavor comes through just enough that it doesn't tast too minty

i have eaten Mcdonald's nuggets a few times. They are edible, at least.

10:28 pm

Their fish sandwich has too much tartar sauce on it; so I smear it of on the box it comes in. Otherwise, it's quite good (to me at least)

don't they respond to "light on the sauce?" LOL

10:30 pm

IDK, I've never asked them!

wendy's will give you your sammich however you want it -- i get my chicken sammich plain

10:35 pm

Now I've only had a stuffed baked potato at Wendys (the ones that have just the sour cream & chives.) That was pretty darn good I thought (We were on a raod trip)

10:36 pm

Hi BDG and Nef ! just reading the chog, read read read and love that you are fellow book collectors and readers. I have so many books I dont know what to do !!

i will buy them from you! (assuming you are in driving range LOL)

10:37 pm

Gwen has some good suggestions on how to control the amount of books.

never had the baked potato from wendy's -- i should try that

10:38 pm

We downsized our home in past couple of years but I am still going thru crates of books. From my childhood book clubls to my cookbook collection and all of my SELF help bools and everything in between.!

you r cookbooks might entice a dealer to come to you, but book clubs and self help are iffy

10:39 pm

And hubby & I NEED to downsize desperately; which is how Gwen & I got on that topic.

10:39 pm

I also operated a home daycare for 20 yrs and have all of the more recent childrens books too. It is all over whelming. I hat e to give up books

10:40 pm

I know that feeling MaMa

10:40 pm

BRB!

10:41 pm

My wonderful nephew helped us move and everytime he picked up a crate full of books he cursed me under his breath!! They are heavy. LOL

this is how bookdealers get started -- when they realize they have 5,000 books and need to sell two or three LOL

oh, yes, pack books into small boxes so you can lift them. important rule there LOL

10:42 pm

Just starting this grid. No hopes of finishing but jumping back in to it all.

10:43 pm

Yes that is good advice Gwen !! I did not pack them !! Well only the most important ones.

4 to go here.

10:44 pm

I

10:44 pm

I’m rooting for you Gwen 😃

sometimes i go out to a house to buy books and they offer me huge boxes and i'm like, thanks, i got my own boxes (banker's boxes are perfect, hold about 15-20 books, and they have handles)

10:47 pm

Sorry, there was a loud crash in the house & I thought my hubby fell again. He did fall; but hit the door & dresser; so not on the floor. (he's the reason we need to move; I just can't do it all anymore)

added about 5 "new" words to my cheat sheet today.

oh, dear, is he okay?

10:48 pm

Oh gosh Nef. Sorry to hear that, I am dealing with parents who still live independant and falling. Mom in hospital this past weekend because of shattered wrist after fall.

10:49 pm

Yeah, I've moved our bookshelves & books around several times over the years (mostly in this house; changing & rearranging rooms). It really makes a difference if you use small boxes; it might mean more trips, but it will save your back!

Niters, Gwen. It was fun chatting! :-)

Hurshy - you have risen!

I always had a feeling that Hurshy would be back and better than ever though.

11:29 pm

hurshy usually shows up around flip; have you played under a different name before?

I appreciate that Hurshy realized it was not to be taken seriously.

yeah - KimmyDee

the one that pissed everyone off

lost my login info

11:31 pm

Guessed I must have missed you then. Try not to get people mad at you; it's more fun to play with friends

Yeah - I really didn't have to try though - it just happened.

11:34 pm

This is a good group of people here; it helps if you think about what you say & how it can be taken before you type it out.

that is very complicated. what you mean to say and how others take it are two totally separate things.

I try to be funny, but that does not always work.

11:37 pm

That's right. That's why I said it. Sometimes we try too hard to make a joke (Or whatever) and once it's written out, it comes across totally wrong.

11:37 pm

It helps if you just don't try so hard too.

Ok - I don't think I try too hard - and I don't want to assume that you meant that in a bad way, but it could be perceived that way....so here we are in the messed up texting world.

11:42 pm

I don't know how old you are; but you sound young. I meant what I said to sound serious, not bad.

Telling someone that they are "trying too hard" is very easily considered an insult. You questioning my age is also an insult and an intentional one at that.

All I try to do whenever I make comments is to bring about meaningful conversation.

What others decide to say or think is on them.

11:51 pm

Kimmy, I'm a grandmother; plus I've been playing babble for quite a few years. I was trying to give you some general advice: you came on saying you pissed a bunch of people off; my general suggestion was don't try too hard to be funny. I wasn't questioning your age. I've known many of these payers here for over 10 years; I've seen the things that newbies do to tick people off; so I was trying to help you start over again. Sorry, I thought I'd try.

I appreciate your advice Nef.

I do enjoy getting people a little worked up, but at the same time I don't think that some of the reactions were really justified.

11:56 pm

You are welcome. We are a friendly bunch; and most of us do try to help newcomers. Play nice & you will be welcomed here.
