al our ko5s and other native animals perished in the fires.

i saw the word in the grid and thought it was strange that it comes up now - dont think it has been in the grid before - so so sad - here in the Cape it is the tortoises that get burned

My heart breaks for Australia. I'm in Calif, and we've had more than our fair share of disastrous fires, but nothing can compare to what is happening in Australia. It's so sad. Canada just sent a large brigade of their best firefighters over to help, and I don't know how many of our US firefighters are over there now.

12:47 am

Kam, the Canadians, Americans and New Zealanders have been rotating since before Christmas. Thank you guys and gals.

12:50 am

Diz, the world wants to help...and we feel so helpless against such a monster. Are you safe? I worry about all of the folks here ... and all of your citizens. Everyone wants to help, but it's hard for us here in the US to find trustworthy sites for donations. If you feel like posting a link or two, I'll spread it around to my friends who are trying to make koala mittens and joey bags. We really don't know what it needed.

12:51 am

what *is* needed

12:51 am

cooee from the outskirts of melbourne.

12:52 am

Kam, will try and find a link, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

12:54 am

Hi Rose! Hugs!

12:54 am

i think monetary donations made through reputable government sites will help the most. we have lots of 'stuff'. it is the cost of fuel to transport it which is inhibiting the efforts.

12:55 am

I saw your post on FB - I know reputable US gov't sites, but there are so many dot au sites that I don't know anything about...

12:55 am

Hi all. Just read an article on ABC news saying that all the donations are a 2nd disaster! They can't distribute. They definitely prefer financial donations.

12:56 am

and some please sit on the i-told-you-so's. now is not the time for political scoring.

12:58 am

That's why I'm trying to direct my friends to a donation site that doesn't take all the money for itself...I have a friend organizing people to make things that I've read are not needed. We just want to help. We volunteer with wildlife rescues in our areas, and needs differ from week to week. Liz, did you mean all the handmade items?

12:58 am

Red Cross is a fairly good bet, I'd've thought.

12:59 am

No - they don't need any material donations. They really would prefer financial donations.

12:59 am

Got to go. BBL

From the ABC news websiteUnsolicited donations spark 'second disaster' in bushfire-ravaged towns Fire-ravaged communities are drowning under a deluge of unsolicited donations of toys, clothes and furniture from well-meaning but misguided people, sparking a "second disaster" according to the NSW Government.

I just read where some are donating to veterinarians in Australia to help with the costs of treating injured animals. Might be one approach for the animal lovers.

1:43 am

That sounds like a good idea, rbud, but what about the people? I know the Red Cross didn't do much for the folks here after Paradise burned down. We had so many people leave Calaveras county because they couldn't even get a FEMA trailer after the Butte fire. I know Aus doesn't have FEMA, but I hope they have something similar that actually works better than what the US has! I also read that hospitals were taking in animals. That's pretty awesome, if true. It's so hard to sort thru the news these days.

1:54 am

This CNBC article has many links and lots of info to help. Best info I've found today. https://tinyurl.com/ygyj6xob

2:31 am

i have to share with you all. i just stood up and looked out of my hospital window. i can see green trees, i can seethe sun sparkling on buildings on the other side of our beautiful Port Philip Bay. my heart leaps with joy. my land is still here. my country is still here. yes there are many people devastated, lives lost, human, animal, and plant but Australia (at least my little part of it ) is still there...here....i am weeping with such joy ....and sorrow...

2:35 am

where are you Rose?

2:35 am

in Berwick, Lynn

2:36 am

You OK?

2:52 am

Thanks for the kind thoughts but have started on a new 'challenge' myself and not sure where I am at or will be for the year (?!)

'morning peoples

huh, I keep telling my 17 yo that co6 is not a word (how much $$ paid for something)

i am already losing words... *sigh*

it's awful with a large grid like the past two days

like you typed them in and they aren't there?

happens to me sometimes

yep.

8:21 am

co6 is a medical term, nothing to do with price

this one is going pretty well for me today, though just as I was thinking nbt was easy, I can't find the a in last column. otherwise, down to 57 left, 5 grayed out already.

thanks, natasha. when I clicked on the ? link to dictionary.com to see if it did have a legit meaning, it took me to the verb for price. and it does show that as a past tense, which I still say is wrong.

they go well. until you come back and beat your head against the desk, trying to come up with words when you have already input them earlier. refreshing does not seem to prefent this.

8:23 am

thought you meant the adj

8:24 am

like you, I think the pt of the verb is still only 4 letters... but English is a fluid language with a lot of history. Whenever I read Shakespeare or Chaucer I am reminded of just how much "rules" change over time.

yeah, 72TO, I haven't been able to figure out why it happens on mine and how to prevent. what browser are you using?

true

firefox

hmm, so not the same as me. saanichat & I are both on safari and have had it happen.

gtg. let's see how many of my 161 i lose upon my return.

so yeah, no idea why it would happen.

9:49 pm

i hear you

10:00 pm

clue for bottom A?

10:07 pm

Don't hate me because I say/type this, please. The Earth's cycles occur 'scheduled' of rotation on our planets axis (yeah, I'm opening myself up to $hitstorm scorn and that's fine) and it will continue to repeat itself until this sphere is gone into oblivion (millennia in the future). We just happen to be in this portion of the 'joy' and if the cycle remains, our great grands will deal with the initiation of the other/cold end of the spectrum... yes, I said it... there will be another ice age but not within our lifetimes... No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist (well, at least in case of weather, lol) but I def have researched past millennium that have been 'looked into'..., yes, people believe what is easiest for them to see in the scope of their own lifetime but our planet is not going to $hit because the 'Powers that BE' have made choices beyond our control for only the last 40 years. This said, I'll never mention again, I know I'm in the minority here but still love the company and the game. … Debunk and trash mem at will.

10:10 pm

as to your assertion, certainly there will be natural fluctuations of climate, and there will be more ice ages and such. But if we would like to be here as a species to witness this, we need to address the current human-caused changes which have caused so many unusual occurrences and shifts which are too rapid for other species to adapt

10:12 pm

and may become too rapid for US to adapt well... resulting in the deaths of millions or even billions

10:12 pm

it's gonna be 60 degrees here (boston) on saturday night
