I'm a bit slow on those today. I just cleared my last one.

9:16 am

Thanks for helping get Iron Sudoku functioning again (obviously I'm addicted). And now it's ime to return to Babble after a long time away ...

9:17 am

It was all Dr. God. I just poked him. : D

9:18 am

Welcome back, Judy.

9:23 am

It's nice to be back ! Had a very rough 2019. Has anyone heard from TraderKate ?

Hi Judy. I do not think I've seen TraderKate here.

9:30 am

If Hurshy was here she would be talking about the ha7 dance

also something you hold with your limb on your arm

9:42 am

ha 7 8: two words together. old phones had a base and what you picked upp to answer the phone was called a ha*****. plural for 8. you picked it up with your ha**. then add second word

mkg said it much better

9:42 am

ok the animals are another ha 7 and 8.

so apparently there are 2 pairs of ha7/8. thx molly.

9:43 am

Wasn't sure which was being asked for. I thought the animal was harder to see

I didn't have either!

and didn't know they existed

but I don't know which she was asking for

9:44 am

9:45 am

I just got the animal as well and its pl

9:45 am

9:46 am

9:48 am

I don't care how many times ed4/6 is in the grids, my brain refuses to recognize it as a legitimate word.

I have words like that, but that one I somehow usually see

9:48 am

molly ed /8 you mean?

there is ed4/6, mlfan

9:50 am

i have it:)

9:50 am

No, I meant ed4/6

9:50 am

oh no i don't sorry

mlfan was just trying to make you say meant, molly

9:50 am

I have the word, I just never see it without having to really look for it

9:51 am

It wouldn't be the first time I have been tricked into the PB. That's why I bar tend there.

9:51 am

i have the 4/8

9:51 am

LOL!

9:51 am

9:52 am

9:52 am

Compound word, Carla. Lucille Ball.

9:53 am

ty bzz

ugh, thanks. or should I say duh, since it's in the grid

just need one r from the bottom. I have 2 rh, does anyone have 3?

9:54 am

hiding in plain sight hokie

I do struggle with the compound words for some reason

9:55 am

Just two rh's

9:55 am

You might be missing ri5.12

ok, thx

excellent guess

got it, thx

oh, bea - the little peach tree in my pic is budding.

9:57 am

Do you get peaches from it?

9:58 am

We're so far behind. Forsythia is starting ud

this is only the 3rd year. when I bought it there were a few small ones but they fell off. one got close, I was going to pick it the next day and then a squirrel got it. last year there were like 50 baby peaches but then they got a fungus.

9:58 am

*bud

9:59 am

We have had such a mild winter here, bichon.

9:59 am

I was sure missing ri5. What a weird word.

I don't know if I should go ahead and treat it for that now. I need to do some research.

9:59 am

All things are budding and blooming around here. I love this time of year.

9:59 am

can someone clue the ri 5 pls?

9:59 am

We haven't had more than a dusting of snow

of course ri5 has no definition

10:00 am

too easy hokie

10:00 am

might be an alt sp of the monkey?

10:00 am

Carla, I do think you have to spray peaches around here. They can not be grown organically.

10:01 am

monkey?

10:01 am

It is part of the Latin phrase ri5 sardonicus which means fixed contraction of the facial muscles resulting in a peculiar distorted grin, caused esp by tetanus.

10:01 am

we have a little farm with a market nearby that has a lot of peach trees. I need to go and ask them if they'll give me some tips.

10:01 am

ri5 ends with the pronoun for you and me, mlf.

10:02 am

ty bzz

10:02 am

Ot you could just ask them if they sell their peaches. =)

10:02 am

I usually buy them!

10:02 am

Hubby and i had discussed planting some fruit trees but it never came to be

10:02 am

My peach jam is requested highly.

10:03 am

they do sell them by the bushel (and other sizes :D)

10:03 am

bzz?

10:03 am

Yes?

10:03 am

That is just peachy!

10:03 am

this tree is in a planter and I just moved it to the screened porch to keep the squirrels away, so now I have to remember to actually water it because I usually kill things.

10:04 am

lol hokie hubby and i don't have green thumbs either

10:04 am

You may want to get it in the ground, Carla. If it is three years old, it going to start getting girdled in the pot.

10:04 am

i still want to plant some crepe myrtle

10:05 am

I did read that they do well in planters.

10:05 am

Can't grow crepe myrtle here

10:05 am

my mom calls that "root-bound". never heard of girdled there. :D

10:05 am

Oh dear, nothing wants to get girdled.

10:06 am

bichon the soil or the temps?

10:06 am

The temps. When we go to Richmond hey have it.

10:06 am

ohh

10:07 am

we have chopped all our crepe myrtles down and they keep coming back. the mr. just dug one of the root balls out on Sunday. they have these aphids that we had a tree company treating and they are almost impossible to get rid of. So even when they grow back they have the aphids.

10:07 am

We do row great blueberries

10:07 am

they have a lot of them around here

10:07 am

Girdling and root bound are not the same thing, are they Bea?

10:08 am

hokie were you keeping them down like a small tree or a bush?

10:08 am

They are the same thing. Basically.

10:08 am

the aphids' poop is black and all over everything and it's gross. we see our neighbors with nice crepe myrtles but I did see one who has the aphids too.

10:09 am

that's a good thing to know.. They are just so nice to look at

10:09 am

Oh. From this definition, I thought they were different...cut through the bark all the way around (a tree or branch), typically in order to kill it or to kill a branch to make the tree more fruitful.

10:09 am

well the shape and size has nothing to do with the aphids, but crepe myrtles aren't meant to be cut back like that. everyone just does it wrong.

10:11 am

Yes, that is girdling. The roots can also wrap around the tree and girdle it.

10:11 am

4 d's, 4 h's, & 5 s's left

10:11 am

i may get out there and stir the dirt around some, see what it looks like in there

10:12 am

do you wrap them on or strap them on ?

10:14 am

*Just choked on a saltine*

10:15 am

yeah, I went to another tab and came back to that. what are you referring to ru? the girdling?

10:15 am

yeah..

10:15 am

i'm trying to picture it

10:16 am

okay..

10:16 am

i guess stuff like that you just need to see in person

10:17 am

Or not. Nothing girdled is pretty.

10:18 am

when I was a lot younger I had one of those slimming things and I would call it my "special slip". my mom would always say, that's a girdle. LOL

10:18 am

girdles are before my time :D

10:18 am

Nothing girdled is pretty sounds like a line from a country western song

10:19 am

It probably is, Molly.

10:19 am

Carla never lets us forget how young she is

10:20 am

that reminds me of a movie I recently saw - Wild Rose -a girl in Glasgow wants to be a country singer. several times people say "country & western" and she corrects them - "it's just country"

10:20 am

good morning all :)

10:21 am

I wish, Molly. I was looking in the mirror the other day and thought I looked like an old hag.

10:21 am

morning, nan

10:21 am

Hey, nan.

10:22 am

It is known as country, country and western or hillbilly. But I wouldn't use hillbilly because that can get you clobbered.

10:22 am

well, I am stuck with 12 left and need to finish before the noon gym class, so I am going to the list.

10:23 am

Rockabilly might not get you clobbered.

10:23 am

I've got fireworks.

10:23 am

well, as a certified hillbilly, I can tell you hillbilly music is not quite the same as country. it's more bluegrass or a bluegrass form known as old-time.

10:24 am

I have two days of early morning voulnteer gigs the rest of the week. May be here during the afternoons an basketball tourneys.

10:24 am

i love bluegrass music

10:24 am

Love bluegrass and country

10:25 am

hope to see you, bea!

10:25 am

See you next time...

10:25 am

bichon, you love country? aren't you the one who didn't know Hank Williams?

10:25 am

bye bea

10:26 am

Bluegrass is very different. I was just referring to generic terms used in the music industry.

10:26 am

We watched the Ken Burns documentary and all has been enlightened

10:26 am

My dad & oldest brother were in an old-time bluegrass band during most of the 80s. almost every night in the summer, they would sit out on our carport with our neighbor and other friends and just pick for hours.

10:27 am

I like bluegrass, too.

10:27 am

In my younger years, I was a country-western dj, at a station that played the OLD oldies -- Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Hank Thompson, Hank Williams, Buck Owens (though Buck was considered a modern country singer in those days)...

10:27 am

I grew up in the same county in Va that the famous Carter Family is from.

10:28 am

I grrew up in NYC. Not exposed to music out of my circle

10:29 am

I was curious about the loves country/doesn't know Hank Williams thing too.

10:29 am

Wow, Carla. Lucky you. Mr. B wants to go there

10:30 am

i was never a hank williams fan .. and i really don't care for his racist son either

10:30 am

It wasn't God who made honky tonk angels As you said in the words of your song Too many times married men Think they're still single That has caused many a good girl to go wrong (Thank you Kitty Wells)

10:31 am

I don't think I would tune into country music, ut would to bluegrass

10:31 am

My favorite country era is 90s. I don't like current at all. I know 70s and 80s stuff from my parents and some before then. Not a huge Hank or Hank Jr. fan either.

10:32 am

Anyone have stats for the 9 please?

10:32 am

I like bluegrass better too. My youngest son refuses to acknowledge there is a difference between bluegrass and country. he thinks they are the same

10:32 am

de9/66

10:32 am

i got to see Doc Watson and his son and Tony Rice play in concert twice.. one of the best shows i've ever been to

10:32 am

de 9/66, pl of the de 8

10:32 am

I had to reread that - I thought you were saying Tony Rice was his son :D

10:33 am

Thanks - my next task: find the de8 ;)

10:33 am

no.. doc's son was an accomplished guitarist also

10:33 am

have you heard of Blue Highway? the fiddle/mandolin/high tenor in that group is from my county. I knew him in high school.

10:33 am

weird word, Molly gave a good clue

10:34 am

The 1960's was a great decade for country music. All the really big time country artists recorded then.

10:34 am

yes, ru, I believe his name was Merle? they have MerleFest or something here in NC that I've heard of. I think it's Doc's

10:34 am

i do like patsy cline a lot.. she was fantastic too

10:35 am

If you can find the Ken Burns documentary "Country Music", you will enjoy it

10:35 am

yes, I need to watch that. I remember when it came out lots of people were talking about it.

10:36 am

I interviewed Charlie Daniels once -- a real gentleman. And Lee Greenwood (who was actually a jazz musician and accidentally got into country). Eddie Rabbit was my favorite.

10:36 am

Eddy Merle (named after country music legends Eddy Arnold and Merle Travis)

10:36 am

I heard Eddie Rabbit recently and didn't realize he had died. I liked him a lot

10:38 am

My interview was over the phone prior to his arrival for a local concert, and we wound up talking over two hours because we just connected. He was a huge Star Trek fan (like me), loved philosophy (ditto), and both our Irish grandparents played violin.

10:38 am

I loved Eddie Rabbitt. He left us too soon.

10:38 am

The Stanley Brothers were from a county next to us and my dad & brother had met Ralph in their work a few times.

10:38 am

"Hank's Back" - Leon Russell's homage albums to Hanks Williams & Hank Thompson. Amazing how many people don't know who Hank Thompson was.

10:41 am

i sure don't see that de 8 or 9

10:41 am

well, this has been fun but I have to take the dog out and go to the gym. still 9 words left! busier chatting than looking, but that's more fun.

10:41 am

off to breakfast. bbl

10:41 am

The clue I found in the archives from Molly was along the lines of the union that Jimmy Hoffa was head of, but change the first and third letters

10:43 am

yes, ut you might want to oogle Jimmy Hoffa

10:43 am

An American union for truck drivers, if that helps (I've no idea why it's called what it is)

10:43 am

I'm not sure Jimmy Hoffa is what Ru wants to oogle : D

10:44 am

look but don't touch

10:44 am

Matty, it came from the time when commercial driving was done by horse drawn teams

10:45 am

good clue for the de 8-9 - ty

10:48 am

i need a clue for the ru 6/24 that isn't more so?

10:48 am

10:48 am

10:49 am

10:49 am

i have never seen that word before ever

Wow, many colleges are closing down after spring break and doing remote teaching between now and the end of the year.

11:01 am

yeah, I already have a couple of customers who are banning any non-employees from their campasses

11:01 am

and prohibiting all travel

11:03 am

Just curious. How many of you have stopped eating Chinese food because of this?

11:04 am

All travel and larger meetings have been prohibited at the university I work for.

11:05 am

Our University is on a two week break. Dont know what will happen afterwards

11:05 am

i don't eat much Chinese food to begin with, but no it wouldn't stop me at all

11:09 am

Origami, the icon picture is killing me. : D

11:10 am

:D

11:10 am

Be honest now. How many of you are stockpiling loo rolls. There are pics on TV of people with hundreds in their trolleys. One chap had filled his spare room with thousands.

11:13 am

i'm not.. i have enough.. i'm not hoarding.. it's just me here mostly

11:14 am

sure wish i could find hand sanitizers though.. who knew

11:15 am

Not stockpiling. I did buy in bulk from Amazon, something I usually don't do because so many stores around here are out.

11:15 am

I am virtually housebound so I am reliant on my husband to do the shopping. I cannot see the point os stockpiling loo rolls. Tins and dried goods maybe.

11:15 am

Hand sanitizer and all the ingredients to make it are now black market items.

11:16 am

Another thing you can't find on the shelves is Paracetamol painkillers. Obviously the populace are expecting one big headache.

11:16 am

I have 36 rolls, because I buy it at Costco and had just bought some before it became such a precocious commodity.

11:17 am

sounds like costco got wiped out

11:17 am

I have 24 given as a free gift by our new Lidl store if you spent £20.

11:18 am

People don't keep supplies on hand anymore. They figure they are always out and can always pick up whatever they need. This is why there are such long lines before a snow storm.

11:20 am

All those survivalists who have been stockpiling for years are like "Yaaah, we told you so"

11:20 am

i do try to buy ah5 when i can so that i'm not always running to the store. my local stores are fine with TP

11:20 am

My daughter works at a group home and the sate made them go out and buy lots of things

fwiw, you can make your own hand sanitizer with rubbing alcohol (thats at least 60% alcohol) + aloe. 2 parts rubbing alcohol to 1 part aloe. add essential oils for a scent if youd like.

11:44 am

that recipe conforms to the CDC guidelines.

11:48 am

Eva, have you tried buying rubbing alcohol lately?

11:50 am

I expect people have been drinking it to replace the vodka they have been rubbing on their hands

I do have a little trouble with these very old accusations. Sadly it was 'normal' at the time. I am sure in a lot of cases girls were throwing themselves at celebrities and the celebrities were youg(ger) and tempted by easy young flesh. thankfully nowadays people should know better. Hopefully.

12:18 pm

Just because something was accepted or normal in the past doesn't make it right.

12:18 pm

that certainly wasn't the case with Weinstein .. and Cosby's victims couldn't throw themselves to begin with.. they were knocked out

12:20 pm

Yeah, there was a time when it was "accepted" for a husband to force himself sexually on his wife.

12:22 pm

Women have been doing sexual favors for Hollywood producers to get roles for ages. To the point where some ugly, old guy with money thinks he can get what he wants from any woman he wants.

12:25 pm

heard a joke yesterday. Guy of 69 marries a blonde of 26. How did you manage that asks a friend. I told her I was 96 he replied

i think that's still accepted in some countries molly
