I'm really rural and don't come into contact with others unless I have to pick up something "in town", so not causing as much angst in me as it could be/is in others? I think if we could just keep the majority of folks to stay at a distance in public and only go out when absolutely necessary (I understand work requirements, medical, etc.) that this will die out sooner than later... unfortunately, that is not the case and we're gonna come in contact with those who have not heeded the isolation suggestions, even if by 2nd or 3rd party.

No, ru. Covid-19 is a virus that is not a disease in itself. It causes a breakdown in the immune system, in this case, usually the respiratory system though it will bring out any cardiac problems as well. She needs medication and possible ventilator - not available for home use now, I'm sure.

Ru, I know it sounds bad but if she needs to go on a ventilator that's the only thing that will save her life and believe me, please (I do know what's going on in the hospitals now) the patients are very well isolated. Yes, ventilators are. President Trump just ordered General Motors to turn over a part of their manufacturing to make them - fast!

I have friends living in Berlin who went through the same thing, M3, some of them only for two weeks (minimum), the others up to 8.
8 week, im so bored had 6 weeks of work then start self isolation because of Asthma and now im in forced isolation. Glad babble is here: Get well Karma for all
The good part, M3, is that you are now carrying an immunity to that virus unless you don't give yourself enough time for a full recovery - especially with the asthma. Take special care. You know what to do. I worked as an RN in AIDS care through the worst of the virus (HIV) from 1983 to 93. This works similarly. The survivors are many and they are pretty strong. But there is still no vaccine. We're hoping for one for the Covid.

I'm trying to loose weight, so this lockdown is good. If it's not in the house I can't eat it. Determined to be at least 20lbs lighter by the time we come out of isolation in 12 weeks time.

So far grorceries, pharmacies, stores like Target. . . and liquor stores. Nobody's been in my house nor car for nearly three weeks. Checkoutlines are marked with blue tape for distancing. I did go to the laudromate three weeks ago with clorox spray and paper towels. Really, I don't overworry. I've washed my hands to where my age spots are fading, and I have learnned to not let my hands near my face.

Here in Cleveland, social distancing seems to be happening consistently. In parks, people maintain distance and wave hellos. Stores have tape marks to spread people out at checkout. Almost everything is closed. I took a ten mile bikeride into the flats. I stayed hydrated, but when I was ready to return home I thought, gawd, I have to pee! Nothing was open at 8 pm, the restaurants doing carryout having closed. It was about 4 hours since I had left home. The ride home is all uphill, 450 ft ascent including 200 that happen in a short, hard mile. It took me about an hour. Long story short, no leakies, and I know how far I can bike on a full bladder!

Haven't heard re: hours here in Ohio. I took a walk thru the neighborhood around 10 pm. Another observation. I live on a 5 lane main road. Traffic noise is usually a problem (as are college kids on weekends, they live in most of the duplexes now). I'm noting the quiet and also the better smelling air. Exhaust becomes a smell we don't notice. I read how LA has clear skies1 I hope ne outcome of all this is a push to a less carbon dependent economy and energy supply.

I sometimes read things here, in this mixed community of different countries and don't get it. I read something this morning about someone being "on holiday". And I wondered...who thinks this is a good time to go on vacation? As it has been said, to each their own.
I know - it is tough -- a lot of our tourist spots are saying stay home -- campgrounds, hotels and motels closing, ski hills closed. I think people here are finally realizing that we all have to pull together to contain this virus.
I'm glad Canada is reacting quickly to this pandemic and I hope the measures taken will work to protect Canadians. Opportunities were lost to head it off at the pass in the US.

The difficult thing is that people want to do what they want. They don't want to be told they can't, even for a limited time. I still don't get the vacation thing because what could you possibly do? it is the first responders I feel for, Deeha -- don't know if I would have enough dedication to put my family at that kind of risk. I see that China has come through and reciprocated by sending us some much needed medical supplies -- that is good.
In the Uk we are finding that people with second homes in tourist areas are heading down to Devon and Cornwall and up to the Scottish Highlands and islands to self isolate because the surroundings are so much more picturesque than their home towns. They are parking along roads, in laybys and anywhere there is space. they'd rather walk their dog by the sea than in a municipal park. They are being sent home because these areas are lacking in facilities to cope with an influx of gravely ill people.

I am too, Molly. My heart goes out to the people living paycheck to paycheck who have none now.
Imagine not having an income for 6 weeks. Bills can't get paid, no money for food. And God help the people who have babies who need diapers and formula.
Yes. They must be just frought with anxiety and fear. I bought diapers food for a neighbor with two little kids who were sitting on their front porch crying yesterday. Heartbreaking.

Well, Molly, I can't do anything for them. I am on disability and as it is I am on the edge financially.
I think it is important for people who CAN to do something. Obviously, not everyone can.
Thankfully, the Canadian government is helping people who lose their jobs or are laid off.
And if by any chance I lost my freelance income that supplements my disability, I can apply for extra money.
Not the case here, unfortunately. There is unemployment, but it takes time, is not much, and won't help people today.
